the skins are not new, there’s a vendor near the WvW portals that sells them.
personally i would buy the 250 charges gathering tools.
at least you got to finish the event guys, even if you didn’t get the reward.
i got stuck in terrain 2 hours into the event, and had to relog, and when i did i found myself in an overflow server that had already finished the event, and there was no chest.
i tried getting back on my original server where i was doing the event, but it also had finished the event and i didn’t get a reward.
I was 2 hours in, doing the Ancient Karka event.
we then reached a part where we have to uncover gas chambers of some sort to push back the ancient karka to the nest.
as we were attacking the gas chambers to uncover them i got stuck inside the terrain under one of them.
since i was in combat and the event was moving along without me, i only had the choice of relogging, so i went to character select and reentered hoping that i would be unstuck.
once i logged i found myself in an overflow server that had already killed the ancient karka, and there was no chest.
i tried to rejoin the server i was fighting on but it seems they had already finished the event by the time my turn came up in the queue, which resulted in no loot for me.
i realise this isn’t a dc issue like other people had, but it is equally frustrating, and game performance related cases should not be excluded from the compensation that people who dc’ed might receive.
if i had posted this 2 hours ago it would be filled with hate and anger, but now i’m relaxed, i hope ANet doesn’t re-induce these in me again……in other words, i’m waiting for compensation.
it’s all an illusion
any amount of aoe will insta-gib your summons.
i think the main reason to have an off hand axe would be to get the fury then use whirling axe to combo with fields, it has big potential for applying various conditions and bleeding since it lasts long and tick more.
the real problem with mantras is that the effects are weak in contrast to the cost to attain them, the fact that you need a grandmaster major trait to make the effect compete with other utility skills is unacceptable, that’s not even counting the long preparation time.
when someone specs for mantras, it is assumed that at least 3 mantras will be used (because you need at least 2 major traits to make them good, so it would be a waste to use 1 or 2 mantras only), that’s 9 second of preparation time just to use them in one fight, while other skills are “fire and forget”
mantra of recovery is a joke, without grandmaster major trait it’s the worst heal ever.
mantra of pain is quite ok for spike damage, but if the fight lasts longer you’ll find yourself with a dud utility skill.
mantra of resolve is pretty ok, since the mesmer lacks any real self condition removal without traits, but there’s still better options for utility, null field lasts 6 seconds and is AOE, better imo.
mantra of concentration is bad, if stability was 4 second it would be better, but the fact that blink removes CC AND puts you out of harms way at the same time, i consider blink a better option.
Mantra of distraction is quite unique, but not very good considering i can get better effects with another untraited utility skill.
axe is mean for pure damage, which is complemented by an axe off hand, so unless you have over 50% crit chance, go with the shield, otherwise i suggest an axe.
Warrior class is poorly designed and forces you into specific specs/stats to be relevant.
in Warrior

i have a few things to say about this.
first of all, you don’t take 2 dps weapon sets at the same time, imo you either take longbow, rifle, or mace/shield for a secondary weapon set.
second thing, if you want to be tanky, don’t expect to give out damage, lasting for 30 seconds while being focused is quite good especially since the warrior is more of an offensive soldier class, if you wanted true survivability with a heavy armor class then go with guardian.
third, warriors have really nice CCs, the sword mainhand is by far the best chasing weapon i’ve seen, the burst skill immobilizes, skill 2 leaps a really big distance, and #3 skill cripples, and if you take throw bolas you can effectively snare an opponent indefinitely.
fourth, ranged weapons, to do dmg with rifle you need to be power/crit/cd geared, but don’t expect to be as powerful as a ranger either, you’re a heavy class with more HP and the burst skill even has more range than the ranger; As for the bow, it’s primarily a support weapon, i suggest you take it with banners and defensive secondary set.
illusions die if they are directly killed or if their target dies.
illusions don’t change targets, they only attack the enemy that was targeted when the skill that summoned the illusion was used.
the biggest mistake immediately noticeable in this build is the immense reliability on illusions.
don’t do that in WvW, i’ve tried it before, it doesn’t work well, your phantasmal warden will die to melee and AOE, so reflecting projectiles won’t be very useful with it.
I suggest you dump all of these illusion summoning utility skills.
Second thing, staff is quite bad with an illusion build in WvW, the staff is a condition based weapon, and it relies on the enemy attacking you while your chaos armor is up which is a bad idea, since you’ll be harming yourself more than the enemy, and chaos storm (albeit very very good) won’t be very useful since it’s quite easy to escape from.
i wanted to have a reflective build with lots of condition damage, power, and crit, but i also wanted to make an illusion based build, without relying on illusions to do my dirty work, and here’s what i came up with:
http://gw2skills.net/editor/en/?fgAQNAraRl0zqq3UTrGb9IxJFKn5oe09r/9SKwduB;TkAqiMFJKyWkrIZRrKGVMJA
i use mirror images for only 2 situations and only 2, the first is when i switch to my greatsword, i immediatly use the phantasm followed by mirror images, the enemy will be crippled while my clones apply bleeds, the second situation is when i’m under heavy fire, i use mirror images and any other clone skill then immediately use Distortion, this will allow me to escape to safety while also reflecting projectiles.
the heal is self explanatory, you reflect projectiles while healing, very useful when you’re escaping, defending, or attacking and outpost.
i use scepter/pistol when fighting on open grounds, i open with the phantasm, followed by the stun, and confusing images right after.
p.s: the illusion and weapon cooldown traits stack, but the tooltips don’t update properly.
it’s the only elite norn skill that can move while attacking.
Mesmer Illusions revive slowly?
i was talking about ranger pets.
So would you say that Illusions die 5-10 times as easily as pets?
don’t they!?
not to mention you can switch pets in combat, meanwhile your pet revives slowly.
My idea to fix illusions
Mesmers can summon Illusions 5-10 times as often as pet classes can summon pets.
Pet classes inferior to Mesmers?
illusions are useless if they die as soon as you summon them.
at least pets have much more durability.
currently it is even inferior to a pet class.
clones and phantasms mean nothing if they die before they can hit even once.
no, i mean illusions (clones and phantasms).
plus, when you summon either of those the enemy doesn’t target them, he’ll still be locked on you, only one two skills do the untargeting thing.
and people who have the slightest knowledge of the game and have some logic will ignore the illusions.
at the moment, illusions die to fast to do damage or deceive anyone, but they are still required for numerous skills to be effective.
Quite simple, make them untargetable.
I mean, looks at the Guardian, he has spirit weapons that are more utilitarian, and last longer because they’re untargetable
Why not make mesmer illusions untargetable as well, but give them a lifespan, since we can spawn many of them quite fast anyways, a 15 second lifespan for clones and a 20 second lifespan for phantasms would be nice.
And perhaps make the three pink circles drain to indicate the remaining time for the illusions.
My Norn mesmer masks never really show, because the hair is always covering them.
also i’ve had lots of troubles doing Dark Room puzzle (specifically the area with caged creatures in it) because my sheer size cause the camera to get stuck while my character moves, which made it very very hard to do the tricky jumps.
i don’t rely on clones deceiving other players, i put out my clones to apply bleed and to dispose of them for shattering.
i rely on reflection. distortion, stealth, cripples, and stun skills to survive.
i run 30 in illusions, 20 in dueling and inspiration, with a condition damage/power/precision gear set, and i use GS + scepter/pistol.
thanks for the polite responses.
afaik it’s a random rare drop from event chests in high lvl zones, or by combining 4 exotics in the mystic forge and hoping for the best.
GS Phantasmal berserker cooldown
untraited: 20 seconds.
with “greatsword training” trait: 16 seconds.
with “Illusionist’s celerity” minor trait: 16 seconds.
with both “Greatsword training” and “Illusionary celerity”: 16 seconds.
just tested.
tell me again, how do they stack?
In all trait lines there is a trait that reduces a weapon’s cooldowns by 20%, including the illusions, then in the illusions line the first minor trait reduces illusion skills’ cooldown by 20%, but these two effects don’t stack in any way.
Why????, why do this?
only one of the mantras i consider useful, the one that removes 2 conditions.
since the mesmer lacks any real condition removal, this can be quite useful.
^Don’t be confused by this, clones do not inheret Sigil of Earth.
but they benefit from the minor master tier trait in dueling, i just wanted to be able to use the greatsword but still have a damaging condition.
well, it just so happens i’m a power CD crit mesmer, and as opposed to most others i use a GS + scepter and pistol.
the trick is to use a superior sigil of earth on GS, and take 20 points in dueling (fury for phantasms and illusions bleed on crit).
with 3 CLONES i can maintain 19 stacks of bleed on a given foe assuming they survive.
works great for me.
thx
fifteen char
what is DE??
well, it technically is and is not an exploit.
server transfers were not supposed to be free, so making orichalcum nodes available wasn’t going to be an issue because you probably pent more on the server transfer.
but now since the transfers are free, i would consider this an exploit, and i don’t suggest you do it just for safety.
what you can do though is mine the nodes using different characters, since each character have their own instance of nodes.
Specifically talking about staff basic attack and greatsword #2.
the staff’s auto attack and projectiles are so slow, and 90% of the time, the bouncing orb won’t come to you to give you the boons, which is pretty inappropriate since the basic attack conditions are quite weak.
the projectile needs to bounce to you sometime during it’s lifetime, and replace the slow projectile by one similar to Illusionary Disenchanter’s projectile.
same thing applies for #2 GS attack, it needs to give you the boons right away, because most of the time it won’t bounce to you, this is especially annoying for the GS because unlike the staff, the GS is a mainly offensive weapon.
in pve the mesmer isn’t as good because mobs die too fast for clones to be useful, and they don’t have much AOE.
in wvw illusions die too fast so shatters aren’t very good.
in spvp it’s just right, the enemies are resilient enough, and illusions live long enough to be useful, 1v1 is simply the mesmer’s domain.
that doesn’t mean that you can’t stomp then with a thief or a warrior.
i shatter all the time in pve, but in wvw the only shatter i use is distortion.
GS if i have the jump on mobs, i use #4 then #2 and dodge to create another clone, then spam #1 to apply bleeds (superior rune of earth), one i phantasm is up again i mind wrack and repeat.
if i want to run looking for loot i use focus and mass invisibility, if i get aggroed i dodge to create a clone to distract the mob and continue running.
sorry, don’t know how this got here, please move to general discussion.
Now that many people are level 80, the farming begins, and areas begin to be more crowded.
and when farming begins, bots are made.
For 5 days now i’ve been going to cursed shore to farm some ectos and stuff, and everytime i go there at every time of day, i see this one person, always standing in the same small general area, always casting the same spells, and even attacking monsters that spawned 0.5 seconds before he started casting, he doesn’t respond to whispers, i told him i’d report him if he didn’t respond, and i waited for 10 minutes for any sort of response, and all he did was target monsters as they spawned and say nothing.
of course i reported him for botting, but it’s been 4 days since i did that, and he’s still here, farming, and ruining the spot for everyone.
ANet, please be swift about botters as much as you are with spammers and gold sellers, imo they’re more annoying.
unlike other illusion summoning skills, illusionary leap has half the range, so you have to be quite close to your target for the clone to be created.
haven’t seen it at all, would expect it to be added in an expansion if there’s enough people demanding it.
Its not just rune’s but armor stats as well like the soldier one that gives power toughness and vit. As for your salvage did you try using a transmutation stone? besides letting you change looks it also lets you changes stats and runes.
i made one big mistake though.
thinking i could salvage the item, i bought the heavy armor version, and i’m a light armor, so i’m screwed.
that trait reduces his skill usage by 50%.
the whirl lasts 5 seconds, and the iWarden uses the skill every 6.8 seconds, so the actual delay between spins is 1.8 seconds, which is more than enough for a ranger to burst him
Why do you do that ANet?
i know some things are meant to be rare and stuff, but aren’t the high costs of runes already enough?
why not give Rune of Lyssa/Grenth to tailors, Dwayna and Melandru to Leatherworkers, and Balthazar to Armorsmiths?
i bought 42k karma weapons a couple of days ago to salvage the runes of lyssa i wanted from them because i tried hours and hours to discover the recipe, then i found out i cannot salvage, sell, or wear these armors.
All runes should be craftable, and the only differences should be cosmetic, like Legendary weapons.
It’s either that or boost the drop rate on exotics, because i never got an exotic outside of the items i craft.
having to choose between clones and phantasms is like choosing between bread or eggs for your french toast.
you can’t have one without the other just because you traited one of them more.
personally i use a power/precision/condition damage build, with a GS and Scepter/torch, with 20 in domination and dueling, and 30 in illusions.
my dueling line focuses on making phantasms crit and thus apply bleeding, while the master trait makes me make clones for easily, with the utility skill that summons 2 clones and a simple dodge, i can create 3 clones that cast GS skill 1, and allows me to maintain 19 stacks of bleeding on my enemy.
the domination line focuses on reducing GS cooldowns and making my clones cripple when they die.
my illusion is focused on boosting my scepter/torch, i took distortion grants reflection, 33% longer confusion, and shatter effects count me as an illusion as well, this allows me to be quite defensive while using the scepter, while still allowing me to apply large amounts of confusion.
as you see, i don’t use phantasms only or clones only, you have 2 weapon sets, use each of them to your advantage, and never use the 2 weapon sets for the same purpose, and do not spec your traits to suit only one of those sets either, build your traits to fit everything you use.
you still need all 6 pieces.
but if you have on underwater headgear it will count as one extra.
i agree, the mesmer seems to be suffering from a poor variety of main hand weapons.
there are only two main hands, the scepter which is heavily based off confusion and clone utilization, the other being the sword which requires the mesmer to get in melee range which is very impractical unless specifically traited.
i really hoped the mesmer would have a MH pistol, and i still am hoping for it.
The only Norn Elite that can attack and move is the Snow Leopard.

personally i find that Wolf form is very very powerful if you find yourself in a pinch in pve.
you basically press 4, then 5 if they’re further away than melee range, then you try group the mobs infront of you then press 2, this will essentially refill your health bar, and it’s on a short cooldown too, after you use it just press 1 and apply bleeds to your hearts content.
as for the leopard form, i think it would work best with a precision+power build, it’s quite useful in WvW, but i never used it because i’m a light armor with 15k health, jumping into a group of people is stupid, and using it to chase/escape is inefficient because of the long cooldown, but the casting while moving screams WvW so i use it sometimes.
(edited by RapidSausage.4620)
I’ve been playing the mesmer ever since early access, and here’s my main pros and cons that i find in the class.
Pros:
1. Fun class, not your generic caster by all means.
2. In core functionality, it sticks to the old GW1 mesmer.
3. 1vs1 capabilities are very very good.
Cons:
1. Almost all the skills are so focused on affecting one target directly.
2. Decent AOE damage is not possible unless traited and equipped specifically for it, and it hampers PVE farming in end game events (such as cursed shore).
3. For a class with a big focus on conditions, it sure is not very effective at applying them, staff attack is so slow and the condition durations are too low as well.
4. Effectivness of illusions outside of sPvP is questionable, in WvW they die too fast to be of any offensive use, and in Pve enemies die too fast so illusions don’t get to run their course.
5. Utility skills are almost exclusively focused on support, a reliable damage skills would be nice.
6. Mobility is terrible, only 3 skills apply swiftness, one requires the player to be hit to have a chance being applied, one applies it at random, and the third applies it for quite a short time even when traited.
The things i would really like to see:
1. Attack speed increase on Staff and Scepter.
2. Less activation time on channeled skills (i.e the time it takes for the skill to work after you click the skill).
3. Better illusion survivability by default, perhaps apply invulnerability to illusions until they hit their first attack.
4. Mass invisibility elite skill should not have a player maximum.
any other suggestions?
I know it can be found on 42k karma vendor at temple, but can’t we craft it?
i looked everywhere and i couldn’t find the recipe for it.
So i’ve reached cursed shore and explored all of it, and i keep farming those 2 events that everyone else is farming (been doing it for 3 days).
there are a few problems i’m facing though.
1. I’m a mesmer, my AOE is very very limited, and i can hardly dish out enough damage before the others to get loot, so i find myself only awarded for 2 or 3 of the enemies killed per wave even though i did damage to all of them.
I’ve tried using greatsword/sword combo + shatter skills, but it’s only as good as basic Elementalist aoe, how do i do good enough AOE damage with mesmer to be awarded for every enemy i damage?
2. I only know of 6 stable Orichalcum ore spawns, 4 of which are in cursed shore, 2 in Malchor’s leap, can anyone suggest places where i can find Orichalcum?
3. Gossamer scraps drop SO LITTLE, i can hardly keep up with my demands for it, especially when just one piece of exotic armor uses around 22 scraps of it, what mobs do i need to kill to get the most gossamer scraps?
4. Rares don’t drop that often, let alone exotics; I’ve tried using Omnomberry bars to increase magic find, but the yield is still quite low, and magic find gear is expensive imo and i’d rather make something for my own build, any suggestions about getting rare/exotic loot?
How many points into illusionary trait do you have? That makes a world of a difference, I do pretty good in world vs world and I often use a staff with +condition mods to most of my gear.
30 points in illusion.
