Massive lag, disconnects, problems logging in

I recently just started getting back into gw2, but to my dismay i find myself waiting ages to be login, and when i reach the character select and try to play one, i either get placed in a normal server, an utterly laggy one, or i lose connection to the server completely.

I followed all the troubleshooting steps which i am too tired to list all of them, but rest assured that i’ve tried everything i can for the game client, my pc’s health, antivirus and firewalls, as well as routers.

Idk what to do, the ISP is of absolutely no use as expected, and i’m stumped ;(

oooh … blinky lights. Wonder how much Dell payed for that to be added.

It’s a bit unusual though to have this added to GW2 and not say…planetside 2, or The witcher, or Warthunder.

This option has been around for a long time, but all i ever see it do is light my keyboard white, and when i’m dead it goes red….that’s about it.

can’t we have at least like themed color based on the class we’re playing or the zone we’re in (eg. desert areas light the keyboard yellow/brown, lush foresty areas lit green…etc), cuz it just seems really boring and pointless to have an alienFX option when all it does is use two colors, and quite scarcily at that.

ok this is getting weird, sometime i join a map server and get a horrible latency (the same kind i mentioned in the original post), but after several attempts or leaving/entering the zone/map server again the latency becomes normal, even though it’s the same zone with the same IP.

Hi everbody I’m from egypt, the land of kittenty internet, but i know it’s not that kittenty, since i’ve always been able to play with 90-110ms ping with no problems whatsoever.
But lately this latency seems to mean nothing, as my resource monitor and ping plots show no/miniscule (i.e <1%) packet loss, but the ingame latency keeps jumping anywhere between 90 and 200 (sometimes is see 500+), so what is going on here?, if my connection is able to achieve the normal 90-110ms why does it feel like 300+ ALL THE TIME
i know for sure that my connection is decent enough to handle GW2’s wvw and busy cities and hotm, i have no troubles in other games such as planetside 2 (which arguably features more players per zone than GW2 ever does), sadly i can’t submit a pingplotter report at the moment (so you will just have to take my word for it), but can someone tell me wth is going on??
Note: all hops/nodes leading to the targeted NCsoft server do not show ping spikes or packet loss except those that my isp has explicitly stated do that by design and this only affect ping requests (ICMP Packets).

Herald nothing more than a boon bot?

RapidSausage.4620

I like the revenant, i like it a lot, every legend is aimed at one specific aspect of the game’s combat system and i like being able to specialise like that.

But the Herald (which really fun to have) does not seem to be more than a walking alternative to guardian staff 3, ele fire fields and blasts and PS warriors, as to get any benefit for yourself from this legend you have to stay in it for a longish time to let the boons stack up so you can use them on your other legend, being that a tanky/dpsy/healing/condi spec, the durations are just too short and reapplication is too frequent you end up staying for like 12 seconds to get sufficient might stacks and fury duration to benefit from, not to mention you’re preventing other people from applying their own (possibly better) versions of regen for example, or longer duration might and fury.

Imo the base boon durations of herald skills should be increased by 1 second, because atm the herald is only good if you build specifically for it and stay in the glint stance all the time, which is just stagnant gameplay.

I unlocked every piece except the head piece, which i still need the inscription and to kill the chak gerent to get.

But for now i’m really enjoying the other 5 pieces which look absolutely epic, it makes me feel better with the revenant when my toon puts it on, great job on this set ANet

Some minor criticism though would be about the head piece clipping through lots of hair styles, and the dye slots are very limited so i can ever really put on 1 main color without looking like a clown.

And now I just tabbed back into the game and this is what I see from another player http://imgur.com/PPAv6oK

People cannot complete the skill points without paying other players?! Oh my this is not going to be good in the long run.

I am pretty sure I know what skill challenge he’s talking about- you eat poisoned bacon that does like 3% of your health a second and disables all your skills except a heal that can’t solo cover it… unless you have the mastery unlocked that reduces incoming poison damage in Maguuma. In which case its easily done.

He’s basically paying people to avoid having to work on a Mastery. It has absolutely nothing to do with it being a difficult fight or something.

I’ve attempted to do this one with a friend, you can’t receive heals when you’re holding the thing, so asking for heals is pointless.

I cannot get HPs from tyria. All of the characters I like have map completion. I am not starved from HPs I just do not understand why they made these so difficult. I do not understand why there was this drastic jump from the old ones.

I don’t mind the difficulty as long as there are people around, the challenges themselves are not what bother me, it’s the mazes i have to go through to find them in the first place if anything.

Honestly man, it’s not that bad, it’s usually just 1 champ which takes 3+ people to kill, sometimes even only 2, which is a great deal if you ask me

The only one that i think is truly hard so far is the one with the Balthazar champion, other than that you only really need a couple more people (which are not hard to find) to finish.

And you’re forgetting the fact that the new hero challenges gives 10 points instead of 1, you don’t expect ANet to just hand them to you do you??

I wouldn’t say Balthazar’s too terribly hard. Me ( Warrior ) and a Ranger duo’d it from on top of the ledge. Since he has ranged attacks, he doesn’t reset his HP/Aggro.

When i did it with a couple of others he had 2 stacks of enrage on him so he basically two shot most of us, we had to keep bim in combat until the others waypointed and ran back to him.

No I don’t expect them to be just given to me but when I cannot even port back to complete it that is a problem. I also am pretty concerned how the maps are going to be in a few months because honestly there are not many people in the areas where I am now so how few will there be then? I do not understand why it was such a huge jump from the old skill points to the ones now and yes, I get that it is worth 10, but really that is just so they can make up for the huge number you need to get the the elites.

HoT is literally only 3 days old, many people didn’t prepurchase and are waiting for reviews/opinions, so it’s still too early to judge everything, people are still exploring and experimenting, and soon enough there will be all sorts of guides for hunting HPs and rotations that give the best mstery xp all around.

Wait a week or two and you’ll feel more than familiar with the map layout and you’ll have enough mastery points to get what you want, don’t expect everything to be accessible from day 1/2/3, patience is the key.

But if you’re really hungry for HPs you can always do the tyria ones, i got 90 points a day for my too s who have absolutely no pve maps explored.

With all the QQing about how HoT is hard or about the big mastery timegate or the “400 hp for elite spec wtf” threads, i thought I’d throw in some positive thoughts.

The new maps are fantastic, i’ve never been into dungeons or fractals, as i always preferred open world pve, after all his is not supposed to be a lobby based rpg, and to me the HoT maps do that beautifully, there is a huge number of activities and exploration to do, and the fact that a lot of content is gated behind masteries makes it all the more thrilling to unlock that next mastery to reach that hero point or unlock that merchant that was previously inaccessible.

Yes the 400hp for elite specs is quite steep, but when I’m running with my spanking new revenant in a new map with new mechanics hunting down new items, it’s not so bad, i can always come later with my alts who will also have the masteries i unlocked and just do a hero point run, which won’t take as long as the revenant cuz they had some HPs beforehand.

I am mainly a dedicated wvwer, but the new expansion experience is not something i want to miss, and it’s not like i’m not gaining anything from it…

Also, hilarious and adorable skritts are hilarious and adorable.

Pretty clearly because they knew there would be a negative reaction.

That’s my point, there wouldn’t be a negative reaction if they had disclosed all the information pertinent to obtaining the new elite specs all at once, because given all the information we have received now the process doesn’t sound bad, and in fact it fulfills ANet’s commitment to provide multiple means of acquisition of nearly everything while still encouraging people to not stick to one game mode.

Remember that masteries are account wide, and you will ever have to grind for it once, so you won’t have to start from scratch everytime you want to get an elite spec on an alt, and it’s new content so you won’t get bored anytime soon.

I’m a dedicated wvwer and that’s a bad idea imo, it defeats the point of the new pve content and defeats the point of wvw ranks.

I’m more than willing to do pve for hero points as long as it’s the new map, plus you probably won’t need all 400 points for the core functionality of the elite spec, i believe the bulk of the points will go towards skins and the likes so it’s a pretty good deal.

Elite Specializations & Hero Point Feedback [Merged]

RapidSausage.4620

Unless I am mistaken just to unlock half of the training line, we need 212 hero points?

It’s 400 points total to unlock everything in an elite spec training line – I just can’t remember off hand how many points folks have currently if they have done all the existing ones, but it’s right around 200. The rest you’ll need to earn in jungle to unlock the deeper skills/traits/etc. in the training line.

You only need 60 hero points to begin using your elite spec, the points you spend after that continue to unlock more skills, traits, skins, etc.

Again, hero challenges are worth 10 points each in the jungle. So no you don’t need to go do 200-400 jungle challenges.

Doesn’t matter what the rate is when you take into account you need every single point in the old maps as well. That x9 is too much.

Except you don’t! There are enough hero challenges in the jungle you don’t need to do any in the core tyrian world – those simply speed you up on day one if you already got them.

May we have a rough breakdown of the elite spec tracks, like at how many hero points will we have unlocked all the skills and traits with only the skins and the “etc” left

That would put a lot of minds at ease.

I do have to say though, not having to do the old pve maps to unlock the elite specs from scratch is a big plus that i am quite happy with.

How wvw rank can be rewarded retroactively

in WvW

Posted by: RapidSausage.4620

RapidSausage.4620

According to the blogpost there are a few important points to take note:

1. Proof of Heroics is the new Hero Point acquisition currency for WvW.

2. There are two different items which this currency can purchase, Notarized scroll of heroics for non-HOT regions (i.e Core GW2 PVE areas), and Notarized scroll of Maguuma heroics for HOT regions (i.e Verdant Brink and other new regions).

3. Any scroll used once a toon has unlocked all Hero Points in a region will refund its cost.

4. WXP consumables will be replaced by xp boosters, whether if you have that item or where you would have been rewarded one before HOT, as ANet “didn’t want to allow any WvW players who may have been stockpiling liquid world experience to instantly rank up a bunch of times and immediately begin unlocking the new expansion hero challenges the moment the expansion released.”

So here’s how wvw rank could retroactively give Hero Points fairly.
1. On login, you receive a mail from ANet granting you account bound Notarized scroll of heroics equivalent to your current WvW rank.

2. These scrolls cannot be sold back to prevent Badge of Honor gain out of the blue.

3. If a character has finished all the Hero Point challenges then attempts to use another scroll, a notification pops up informing the player that he has acquired all the core Hero Points.

By doing this, players can use all the wxp consumables they want now, that will never affect the acquisition of the HOT hero points, and assuming the new elite specs will require 250 hero points, and the PVE Hero Points total at 190 (assuming krait obelisk in home instance), there will still be 60 hero points to acquire through the new map and wvw itself., which i believe will come in 5’s through harder hero challenges.

Some may argue that a high wvw rank player will be able to do 100% of the hero points on all his characters if this happens, but let’s be honest, the effort and time it takes to get a high wvw rank (i’m talking 1000+) is not small, and takes a lot more time than it would take a PVEr to run all the maps and finish the Hero Points, and in my opinion the effort vs reward more than justifies the amount of scrolls rewarded through this method

Here’s the data mined hero points estimated amount needed.

https://www.reddit.com/r/Guildwars2/comments/3iz5oo/data_mining_hero_points_and_specialization_tracks/

Hope this helps

“TL;DR: You need 170 hero points to unlock all traits/skills. 250 to unlock everything. There are 214 hero points available from skill challanges in the game right now.”

Update: The 214 hero points are from skill challenges only. You get 398 hero points from leveling up alone, and you don’t need all of that to unlock everything in the core game. So, it’s easy enough to get the points you need. Most of my 80th level toons(I have have around 160 HP left over, and have <40% map completion. In fact, some of them have <30% map completion, and I only have one toon at 100%. Additionally, you will be able to complete HP in the PVE map, without ever having to actually go to that location or even discover the map. Just keep doing WvW like you want to do and you can get the drops to complete a challenge that you never have to even see.

TLDR: you have more HP available to you than you think, and will be able to complete your elite spec without having to get 100% map completion.

it wasn’t about map completion and we had that in mind when we complained, it’s about running around all day just to occasionally click F or spam auto attack.

I takes a full 1 hour of running around the map to collect 10~15 hero points, imagine doing this for 250 hero points for 8 characters by a player who has no interest in pve but is forced to do it to stay competitive in WvW.

The upcoming WvW solutions will help, but honestly it will still take far longer to get a hero point in wvw than to just go to pve and collect it.

Well ANet wanted to help wvwers but they might end up doing wvwish content that doesn’t contribute to their server at all, and a wvwer in eotm is also not a wvwer in the new borderlands

It’s great that wvwers will have a method to acquire Hero points in wvw, but according to this quote from the blogpost it sounds like the Proofs we’re getting from wvw ranking up won’t be retroactive, subsequently EOTM will be crawling with wxp farming wvwers since it is far easier to gain wxp and badges of honor there than WVW.

“we didn’t want to allow any WvW players who may have been stockpiling liquid world experience to instantly rank up a bunch of times and immediately begin unlocking the new expansion hero challenges the moment the expansion released.”

So basically, with WvW experience consumables, chug ’em if you got ’em? Before Friday?

Yes, unless you prefer wxp boosters for some reason.
Don’t except them to reward those proofs retroactively though, as it sounds they may not do that.

Edit: using the wxp stuff now give you instant wxp and therefore levels, but it probably won’t result in more hero points on launch, if you hold on to them though you guarantee 50% faster wxp gain and therefore faster hero point acquisition.

Thanks. It would be nice if we got those “proofs” retroactively for all of our earned world ranks, but it sounds like we only get them for new world ranks after Friday.

If that’s how it ends up to be i won’t make use of the system, because it’ll take much much much much less time to just run around a map collecting hero points than gaining a wvw rank.

Takes about an hour to gain 10~15 hero points in pve vs 30 minutes for 1 wvw rank in a good zerg or organized group.

It’s the only way this will be fair all around, cuz going from rank 1 to rank 2 is faster than from 400 to 401, but still rewards a proof.

Sounds like they are making it so by getting these you complete HP events in pve. So there still a set number of HP to get. On-top of being able to get mastery level up.

Need to be said they rarely post during the weekend you cant demand info on Friday not get it and call them out on it Saturday becuse your effectually talking to no one.

Yea that is my fault, though i was not expecting an immediate reply.

As for the solution they’re offering it sounds pretty good, it will at the very least partially split the effort between pve and wvw.

Although it would’ve also been nice if we knew how many points we need to begin with.

I don’t know why people who play WvW are SO against ANYTHING PvE, I mean I get liking to play against a player controlled target, but me personally, fighting the same servers week after week after week, gets old quick…

I am sure it won’t be over-the-top cost hero-point wise, but it is an elite spec, so I would guess it would be respectably higher than a normal spec unlock, but not so much that people start foaming at the mouth over the cost, lol…

i am not against anything PVE, i will be playing in Verdant Brink and aiming to do raids as well, but what i’m not aiming for is running around every single map in the core game clicking F on Hero Point challenges 60~170 times PER CHARACTER just to unlock the new elite specs, however that is how ANet has done it as far as we know, which is by definition “a grind”

If you’ve done enough WvW to warrant an insta-built character, you should have thousands of skill points.

Give me a break. My oldest character with full world completion has 200 HP. There are only a little over 200 HP total achievable. Characters that I build purely to WvW with over the last 9 months have 10% or less total map completion, and have 30-50 banked HP each. Based on datamined numbers over on the HoT forum they are talking about 170 HP needed to get your elite spec up and running.

Simply not enough time in the day for me to unlock the 5 elite specs I want to play in WvW. Would take about 3 weeks game time to do so, and that means 3 weeks of PvE, not 3 weeks of WvW.

Let me get this straight..
You thought you’d have instant access to every bit of the new content.. On launch day?

I don’t pve either

no, this is not what i or he think.
What we’re saying is we want to know HOW MANY hero points we need to fully unlock an elite spec and whether or not there will be an ALTERNATE way through WVW to unlock the elite specs or otherwise earn hero points BEFORE HOT launches so we can PREPARE for it.

Based on datamined numbers over on the HoT forum they are talking about 170 HP needed to get your elite spec up and running.

Simply not enough time in the day for me to unlock the 5 elite specs I want to play in WvW. Would take about 3 weeks game time to do so, and that means 3 weeks of PvE, not 3 weeks of WvW.

basically this….

Don’t you get it guy? The entire point of the PvE map is so you can obtain advantages when you WvW. Ascended gear = better WvW performance, need to craft or PvE for it.

I’m talking about Hero points here not ascended gear….

They posted already and its a weekend you realy do not see them post during that time.

Posted what and where??

If you’ve done enough WvW to warrant an insta-built character, you should have thousands of skill points.

You’re not up to date with the skill point system, read up on Hero Points.

..Hero points and the dedicated WvW community.

A lot of WvWers have voiced their loathing for hunting down hero points in PvE just to be able to use the elite specs in wvw, yet ANet has not disclosed any information about how many points it will require if at all, and whether there will be solutions solely through wvw or not, despite being asked numerous times about this subject.

ANet, if you’re gonna shaft us the wvw players, at least have the courtesy to tell us long enough before HOT launch so we can prepare, considering the fact that this week’s matchup isn’t going to matter anyway for EU so we have a free week, or at the very least give us some words of comfort/caution that we can build an opinion upon.

PvP and PvE forums get lots of attention and questions answered, can you just answer the WvW forum’s age old burning question for once?

Most frustrating stat to craft

Which stat do you think requires the most amount of resources + time to craft a full ascended set of (armor and weapon)?

Gyros in WvW

in Engineer

RapidSausage.4620

The scrapper hammer kit is a wonderful change that lets the engineer become a part of the frontline of a zerg, and the tool belt skills associated with gyros have great synergy with the traits and the hammer skills.

But the gyros themselves have the same inherent problem with all pets in wvw, they absolutely melt in zerg fights, and this is even more exacerbated by the fact that the scrapper needs to be in melee range, and gyros apply their effects over time rather than instantaneously.

So where does that leave us?, are we ever going to see gyros used outside roaming?, are there toolbelt skills that synergize better with the hammer kit than the gyros’?

Legendary WvW and PvP components

Maybe kill 100 players to get 1 glob of kitten blood or something like that and you need 30 globs of kitten blood to craft a legendary.

Ok sure, so this means that in a full zerg run in wvw (like 2 hours minimum) the zerg collectively will have enough ofthe thing for a legendary weapon, which seems rather fast considering how many people actually craft legendaries, this will affect the long term stability of said component negatively.

Having read that these materials will be tradeable i rejoiced, finally will my 4 hour contribution to the fight for my server will not be rewarded with peanuts which i then have to sacrifice to the TP gods for essential consumables, leaving me with only the peanuts’ empty shells.

But wait…what is that i see?, 300 people receiving the same material?, only a handfull of people creating a legendary weapon?, you’re telling me there are also many other servers receiving the same thing?, smells like a market flood is coming.

What is that you say?, these legendary mats will become devalued very quickly?, nonsense, no legendary material ever becomes devalued………..right?

So ANet, care to shed some light on that “component” that will become “a way for pvpers and wvwers to dive into the bottomless gold filled pockets of pvers”?, like how is it acquired?, how much of it is needed?, how frequently will it be attainable?

What i liked about berserker

in Warrior

My warrior playstyle is a frontline Soldier’s warrior in wvw, with Hammer/sword+WH, i do not run shouts however and most likely never will.

I ran around with signets and stances and it was great, because you can jump in and ignore all damage and condis for sometime while you lay down your Aoe cc and damage then get outa dodge before endure pain runs out, but the main problem i had was that hammer cooldowns (while great) left room for a rotation gap once you exhaust those cooldowns.

When i tried the berserker i had to sacrifice one of my trait lines to get the zerker, what i got for this however was so much more of what i needed, like more stun breaks, faster adrenaline buildup up to the point where i have an excess of it, and most importantly many leaps (i.e you physically leap not do a leap finisher) with great Aoe potential and decent cooldowns that perfectly fit the visceral combat conditions of wvw zerg fights, there hasn’t been a single moment where i was out of a skill to use that doesn’t build adrenaline, break stun, does Aoe dmg, or leaps.

The question is though, do i REALLY have to be sacrificing some survivability in favor of additional damage, or what i’m seeing is a different form of damage mitigation, only time will tell, but from what i can see, zerker offers additional tools that allow the warrior to stay in combat longer IF he can learn to mitigate damage with something other than healing and invulns.

How do i make gold??

I know this has been asked a billion times, all those times people say “SW cf” or “champ trains” or “dungeons”, but the thing is i did all those thing and i barely get 8g profit an hour.

How the heck do people who amass hundreds of gold do it, do they farm 6 hours everyday of the week , is the RNG gods plotting to screw me over??

I’m a man of simple pleasures and limited time, WvW is what i do 90% of the time, and 10% of the time i spend trying to get gear that isn’t complete garbage and painful to look at.

So what am i doing wrong here??, i usually salvage everything using copper fed salvage o matic except rares and exotics, and i sell all my mats.

WvW is most elitist and PvE is most ignorant.

Interesting.
In what ways is WvW elitist and PvE ignorant??
