Will we get real rewards with HOT?

in WvW

Posted by: RapidSausage.4620

RapidSausage.4620

This is the perfect opportunity for ANet to introduce/rework how WvW rewards players, because the outdated capture and defend events’ rewards have not been adjusted for economy inflation since launch, and badges of honor are only good for wiping your bum with after you’ve already got your gear, and the badge gear is not even a unique skin.

Now, since WvW is largely considered a pvp/pve hybrid by ANet, why isn’t it offeri g pvp or pve levels of reward??, it sure would be nice to be able to at least afford the costs of consumables used in a prime time wvw run.

For great symmetry!

Imo if one of those two needs to have buffed health it would be the engineer considering that engis have far more playstyles which are close quarters.

My brief impression on the elite specs

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: RapidSausage.4620

RapidSausage.4620

1. REAPER: Abdolutely love it, of all the elite specs this is the one where i felt that everything synergized the most, as well as awesome animations.

2. BERSERKER: I love it a lot but not for the synergy of skills, what i liked about it is the speed at which adrenaline builds, coupled with the stabilities and stun breaks, all of which are more than welcome additions to my WvW hammer frontline warrior.

3. SCRAPPER: An absolute pleasure to play, i love the hammer skillset, but i cannot help but feel that the gyros will see little use outside ranged specs, especially in WvW.

4. CHRONOMANCER: Love the concept, and i gotta say it will be the highest skill cap class in HOT; i’m not sure if alacrity is in the right place though, as i easily stacked 30 secs of it and once i had that it was pretty easy to keep applying more of it.

5. DAREDEVIL: Concept is good enough, but there is little room for synergy since the nerfs to acrobatics and other trait lines, acrobatics especially due to its innate synergy with the daredevil’s mechanic, the utility skills felt underwhelming to say the least.

6. DRAGONHUNTER: Felt the blandest to me, not much of a new playstyle there, and traps feel so out of place to me, didn’t really enjoy this spec.

7. DRUID: I think as a standalone playstyle it is pretty great and is actually the most unique spec so far, but it doesn’t feel like it belongs with the ranger, itis a fun spec nontheless.

8. TEMPEST: Lots of hate for this spec, but i liked it, f1-4 are quite great, the warhorn skills also feel great and are quite diverse, however, the utilities (and elite) are by far the blandest skills i’ve seen, they look like an Master Major trait proc rather than standalone skills, also i cannot see the warhorn working with anything other than dagger MH, and needless to say, dagger MH doesn’t synergize very well with the warhorn.

9. HERALD/REVENANT: I love this class, especially the mace+axe combo, the Tablet heal feels underwhelming but other than that i really love all the specs, as for Herald, i like where they’re going with it, i guess you could say the Herald will be the new zerg herders of WvW with the perma swiftness; One personal disappointment however is that there is no trait that increases energy regen by 1-2 pips, given that it’s technically part of the profession mechanic, but i’m not a balance dev so…

I hope you had the patience to read through this, and if you share or disagree with anything specific please tell me why, i may have missed something.

Solution to cloth shortage

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: RapidSausage.4620

RapidSausage.4620

As everyone knows, cloth mats from t3/4/5 are ridiculously inflated, causing ascended mats that require them to cost almost 4 times as much as leather and metal ones, and i believe the solution lies in plant harvesting.

The reason why I’m suggesting plant harvesting is because it is an already established system in gw2, and while leather also doesn’t have a reliable farming method, what it does have is a high salvage and drop rates to compensate, and metals have their nodes so no need for anything there.

What it will require from ANet is simply to add a bunch of new nodes for each appropriate cloth tier, for example flax plants in shiverpeaks zones to harvest linen scraps, silk scraps from berry plants (silk worms), but ofc there’s things like wool which i suppose could just have their salvage rates increased.

Some will say “why not just increase the drop rates”, and my answer would be RNG, harvesting provides a more steady supply on an economical AND personal levels, which salvaging and killing mobs does not.

Another method would be material downgrading; Currently the mystic forge offers a method to upgrade a single material (250 silk + 1 gossamer + some other MF items = ~40 gossamer), so why not do the same thing backwards but with diminishing returns??

Its a long-ish post but that is the extent that my english will assist me to concisely explain my points.

Maybe it’s just my stupid luck, but try and do Tequatl at least once a day (I’ve had three ascended weapons drop from him). I’ve found that weapons drop far more frequently than armor. It really depends on your luck with RNG
Also, silverwastes is a decent source of the ascended materials you’ll need, to say nothing of the metric ton of silk.

I can do teq and when the weapon drops i then change its stats using mystic forge right?

RapidSausage.4620

I"ve never dabbled with ascended crafting mainly because i am poor as heck, and i really don’t do fractals so there was no real incentive for me to go for them, but now with the upcoming raids i thought i should start gearing up with ascendeds.

My question here is, should i start by leveling armor crafts and make an armor set, or go for the weapon crafts first and make weapon sets (i read somewhere that the weapons provide the bulk of the stats and so should be the first ascended item)??

And while we’re at it, what other non-fractals activities should i be doing while crafting ascended equipment to speed up the process as much as possible??

Rework glyph of lesser elementals

RapidSausage.4620

Elementals would’ve been Ok if we could command them in similarly to a ranger’s pets since they have a longer cooldown and a more diverse skillset than say..necro minions.

But it still doesn’t warrant having two glyphs that are pretty much the same thing, it would be awesome if the elite glyph lasted a bit longer, elementals had more health and toughness, and you could control the two skills they have that aren’t the auto attack, while replacing the lesser glyph with something more attractive.

RapidSausage.4620

Glyphs have always been the ugly stepchild of the ele utilities, and glyph of lesser elementals is definitely the worse of all glyphs because the pet AI is horrible to begin with, and the elementals are horrible anyway, they’re slow, don’t have enough durability, and their skill casts are slow as heck.

Of all the glyphs we had in gw1, why this cheap knockoff of an elite glyph which is also pretty “meh”, why not put in..idk..glyph of renewal (its function anyway) or glyph of sacrifice, which imo are way better than glyph of lesser elementals.

A replacement glyph could have the following effect:

You activate the glyph and have its effect as a buff for few seconds, the effect depends on your attunement when you activate (click) the glyph.

Fire: your next spell deals xx% more damage
Water: your next spell also heals allies around your target
Air: your next spell recharges xx% faster / instantly
Earth: incoming damage is reduced by xx% while casting your next spell OR you are immune to control effects while casting your next channeled spell.

Pretty sure that’s the Revenant. Like the name suggest, the Thief is supposed to be the master of stealing. That’s it.

Come on man. I just read shadowstep on Cloak & Dagger, now this suggestion is Shadowstep on AA with 1 to 2 second reveal… ?

Not only it’s pretty ridiculous but it won’t even make the thief any more fun, or viable.
We need a lot of fixing or moderate suggestions. this is plainly outrageous and even if it was implemented, other professions will complain so much, we ll get hit by a harder nerf.

Just no. We have plenty of gap closers, make sure you use them efficiently. we steal. we don’t travel through the mist. that never happened.

RapidSausage.4620

So the thief is supposed to be this master of traveling through the mists, yet i feel the class is not exhibiting enough of that, well, not enough short duration short distance ones.

What i’m suggesting is either a baseline effect or a shadow/deadly arts master major trait, that shadowsteps you a small distance (like 100~150 units) when you auto attack your target while in combat under the condition that your last melee attack hits, so the description of such a trait would look like this:

“Landing a hit with your melee attacks causes your next melee auto attack to shadow step you a small distance to your target (combat only)”

While this will look cool as heck it will also help chasing down those pesky eles and mesmers, but at the same time not rendering their escape mechanisms useless, and will also make sticking to your target easier.

A potential drawback could be “you are revealed every time you shadowstep”, or it can have 1-2 second cooldown, just to balance out things a bit.

Why do these exist??, all armor that isn’t completely bought with gold cannot be salvaged, namely WvW and dungeon armors.

I realize that ANet doesn’t want people to get a lot of value from something that costs only little in gold if any gold at all, but imo this is fully compensated in the effort required to collect the required currency to purchase said armors when compared to the effort required to farm an amount of gold enough to purchase same item stats from TP.

Some may argue that you get unique arm0r skins from dungeons that you cannot buy from TP, and it is a valid argument, but what about wvw armor?, their armor skins are a rehash of low lvl pve armor with one exception, why do wvw armor owners have to suffer from unsalvageability AND ugly armor?

This is like saying “you can have this car if you pay xx amount of money and work xx hours, but you cannot drive the car the way you want to because you didn’t pay full money for it”.

Dear ANet, our time has value even if it is not measured in gold, stop screwing up the people affected by this unnecessary and unfair system.

Tried sPvP, and one of the worst things I heard was “I want to slit your childs neck open and use it like a sex toy.”

Alright i’ll give you that, the sPvP community is full of rabid kittenbags, but generally there is a decent person for every kittenbag, just don’t play ranked, stick with unranked and have fun, if you bump into some friendly people you enjoyed a match with, team up with them.

Tried WvW: If you don’t have a level 80, shut up and get out. General consensus from the commander I was stuck under.

I’ve been playing gw2 since the head start (3 days early access before it opened up for non prepurchasers), and i bave NEVER seen a commander that’s acted as such, it could be a server culture thing, or most likely a kitten commander.

If you like wvw and plan on playing it a lot, i suggest you do some research and find a good wvw server with good reputation.

Other than that i assure you that this whole lvl 80 thing is not representative of the wvw community as a whole, in fact, outside some elitist wvw guilds, the wvw community is the friendliest in gw2.

Tried dungeons: “Level 80 only, speedruns only.”

Here’s the thing with dungeons, people do it to earn gold after they finish the story version, and naturally they want to finish them as fast as possible.

If you’re still under lvl 80 and you want to do the story version of a dungeon, then specifically indicate so, because the whole speedruns thing is only for the explorable version of the dungeon (unlocked after you finish the story version).

Best advice for dungeons is to do it with a bunch of friends.

Phantasm/stealth sPVP build

in Mesmer

Posted by: RapidSausage.4620

RapidSausage.4620

Hi all, i’ve been working on a burst build for unranked sPvP (because i just want the fun), i’ve been having on an off success with it, and i’m just looking for feedback.

I don’t check websites or even the forums for builds, therefore any similarities between my build and any other is purely coincidental.

Now to business, here’s the build: http://gw2skills.net/editor/?vhAQNAR7alsnh+0YjawBNwtGLqGkZNqWLIDQF2Ja1ve2B-TJBBwAY3fAwTAYzFBocZAA

The idea behind it is simple, you are a caster thief, you stealth, dish out pain, then get out.

However this build has one particular advantage over a thief, you can stay in stealth while setting up your damage, so here’s the rotation:

1- With your greatsword out, target your victim and activate mimic followed by decoy, this will spawn 1 clone.
2- While still in stealth, summon your GS #4 phantasm and immediately switch to the other weapon set before the phantasm attacks.
3- Now summon your pistol #4 phantasm and then use your #5 followed by scepter #3.
4- Now you should have at least 2 illusions, once the pistol phantasm finishes its attack, shatter them with mind wrack then immediately switch back to greatsword.
5- Use your GS #2 then #3
6- Your target may be close to you by now, so use GS #5 if you’re within range
7- Dodge as necessary, and use signet of domination if you’re running out of CC.
8- If you picked your target right then he’ll either be on very low health (a couple max range spatial surges should take care of that) or downed.
9- Use your second cast of decoy to finish your downed target.

Notes:
- You want to disable all your auto attacks, the worst thing is to cancel your initial stealth using an unneeded spatial surge or ether bolt.
- You may switch signet of domination for any other skill you want, i prefer it for the long stun, but blink is also very useful and benefits from the traits.

Grenade barrage bug technically an exploit

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: RapidSausage.4620

RapidSausage.4620

Speaking as someone who rarely goes to the website and mains an engineer, I’ve been using that trait because I like grenades and use them as my main source of damage since launch with condi gear. Its fun for me. I didn’t even know they were bugged or given too high damage or whatever the issue is (I actually don’t know so if anybody could calmly describe the issue I’d love to know). Much different than exploiting something to profit. Many of us playing weren’t even aware since so much changed last patch. Hard to know whats intended for those who don’t pay attention to numbers.

Basically, when grenade kit is traited, the grenades strike twice, and grenade barrage receives like 12 grenades.

So in essence each grenade is twice as effective, and grenade barrage is 4x as effective.

People combine that with throw elixir S to catch people off guard and instagib then with zerker gear.

Well what i know is that currently (and especially in pvp), every engineer i have come across runs grenade kit with trait plus elixir S and use the stealth to then instagib people with the bugged grenade barrage.

If ANet won’t count that as a (temporary) bannable exploit, they better do something about it real quick cuz it’s becoming an epidemic.

Until ANet issues a hotfix for this, isn’t it fully within our right to report these people for exploiting??

New trait system Good or bad?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: RapidSausage.4620

RapidSausage.4620

I for one am loving the new trait system, but not necessarily for its diversity, so here’s my take on it.

Ever since GW2 launched the trait system has been largely unchanged, yes there were a few reallocations and value adjustments and a few traits added, but nothing too radical, as traits largely offered little fragmented effects of which you can pick a total of 7.

What the above did was cause the theorycrafting scene to go stagnant as some build proved to be the most effective in all three game modes, and this stagnantion can only be tolerated for so long before it starts affecting game lifespan and player retention.

With the new patch ANet turned the whole meta on its head and changed, added, and consolidated many traits and skills, and while this may seem bad to some, it is a breath of fresh air aimed to rekindle the long dead theorycrafting flame that should be inside every GW2 player.

Yes, there are builds that no longer work (though ANet asked SPECIFICALLY asked us to tell them about your build that may die with the changes so they can try keep its spirit), but there is also room for new and exciting builds that act upon skills and weapons that were a lot less favored before, and imo the people who whine about the changes atm are those who go on meta battle and copy pasta a build without having any input in it whatsoever.

Stop whining, start creating, use that organ inside your skull for once instead of letting others use theirs for you.

Thanks ANet

Given the recent poopstorm, i’d say ANet handled it pretty well and the amendments are appropriate and fair.

For a 50 dollar price tag, i feel the expansion is worth $40, and the character slot is the standard $10, which imo is a much fairer deal than before, and i am quite happy with that.

I am sure ANet had good intentions from the start, but they are humans not gods after all and can’t always do what the community expects them to do from the first try.

All in all, i love you ANet, you are my favorite developer and have been for many many years, and i am looking forward to playing your expansion and continually supporting your awesome game

Why the pre-order package is a big deal

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: RapidSausage.4620

RapidSausage.4620

Note: The following is my own opinion and analysis of the situation, you are not obligated to agree or disagree with me.

Everyone’s making a fuss about the whole HoT pre-order package not only because of a 50 dollar price tag is too big for the base bundle, but there is also what i would say is “anti consumer” practice (though i think this word is a little bit of an overstatement).

To elaborate, how many times did GW2 go one sale right before and ever since HoT was announced??, i am certain at least twice, possibly even more, and GW2 was listed at $9.99 during those sales, this means that the base HoT bundle offers an additional $9.99 worth of content for new players that ANet saw fit to offer for free, while offering no compensation for people who already have the base game, which imho is fine, if it weren’t for the sales mentioned above.

What this means for ANet is, they can claim they’re being generous by giving new players a break, and this may be indeed their intention, but what it looks to my eyes is a cleverly crafted yet obvious marketing move intended to minimize lost cost.

Because of the above, the expansion should be at most $40.

The other reason is some people are arguing that “other MMOs offer expansions at the same price, like WoW”, but here’s the problem with this statement, just because some content has the title of “expansion”, doesn’t mean that it is equal to every other game’s content with the title “expansion”.

Expansions have a scope, this scope includes all the new content and features it brings with, so if we were to compare HoT to other games’ expansion we will find that HOT has a relatively narrower scope.

Lastly, we need to recognize the sources of income for ANet through the GW franchise, which starting from GW2 was supposed to be focused on the gem store, which was SUPPOSED to provide income for ANet and NCsoft, while allowing them to provide content for the game at lower prices, but as we see, none of that has been realized.

What ANet should have done is make the expansion $30~$35, then release some gem store content along with the expansion, and discount the base game for purchase SEPARATELY to allow people who only want the expansion to be able to buy it alone, while still offering exclusive bundles for those who want to spend more for collectible stuff.

It’s such an intuitive move to offer the bare expansion at minimum cost then embellish upon it by bundling in additional stuff which may of not be exclusive, i don’t know how ANet could’ve missed such a simple thing.

Ping is NOT a reliable way to identify network latentcy….just general connectivity. It is NOT uncommon for servers to NOT prioritize (or even respond at all) to a ping request.

Use TraceRT for finding routing or latency issues.

Assuming issues like this are the Anet servers because “all my other internet works fine”, is just technically incorrect and simply shows you are not aware of how the internet really works.

i know that, that’s why i ran a tracert, used ping plotter, checked ping second by second using resource monitor, and lastly, the ingame latency indicator.

With the new HOT map there will be gameplay elements that change between day and night, but i also hope that the graphics effects of both will be accenuated to bring out the beauty that each provides to the surroundings.

An example would be some fluorescent effects in lush areas accompanied by a darker sky and horizon, with perhaps owl sounds.

In layman’s terms, i don’t have to have part of the sky visible to me to know it’s day/night

i’m not opposed to the idea of a meta, if anything it helps keep the game running, i’m not opposed to anything in my post really, i’m just disappointed at the player behavior towards the meta.

The complete reliance on meta builds and setting these meta builds as prerequisites for anything rather than letting people experiment and make their own builds to increase diversity and exploration, that’s what saddens me.

when someone opens a party it’s his right to make requirements for the party; it is you who choose to join or not to join said party; you can make your own lfg with whatever req (or lack of) you want; don’t expect other players to cater to your tastes

i’m not expecting anything from anyone, i’m simply stating my opinion on the status quo on what is expected from players, nothing more.

Fellas, we need to stop this, GW1 and GW2’s skill system was meant to provide limited active options using a large pool of choices to allow the players to come up with combinations to serve a particular gameplay goal set by said players, it is not about following a meta-council’s wishes as if it was the bible.

This is not stating an opinion. This is lobbying. You make emotional statement about things you find wrong and you want others to stop these actions. Problem is all you are complaining about is a matter of taste and personale choice, there’s nothing wrong about playing or not playing meta.

the problem is everyone is playing meta to the point where people not playing meta are trivialized and rejected.

But if everyone is playing meta then noone is left to be rejected.

almost everyone*

I’d like to see a detailed data you have that makes you jump to such conclusions.

almost everyone i’ve seen/interacted with*
