But the game engine is built for DirectX 9. You can’t just magically push a button and have it use DirectX 12. If that was the case why would any game ever use anything other than the latest version?
Because, believe it or not, majority of users play on Dx9 compatible GPUs. Or at least that was the case when Gw2 launched, almost 3 years ago.
Hell, my R9 290X is maybe going to get full Dx 12 support. It is still unknown. Even though it has the latest iteration of GCN. At least until 3xx series launch later this year.
All those laptops and macbooks won’t see any improvement. But for the power users like myself, this will be very welcoming news.
So please, ANet, make it happen <3
So, how much would you be willing to pay for basically a complete rebuild of the whole engine that will probably take years and loads of new employees?
Renderer != game engine.

Handsdown lockdown mesmer is one of the most annoying builds. They are defeated when they lock you down, they just don’t know it yet.
But yeah, turret engi is one of the most annoying builds. The only class i dont have on my account is the necro. And it seems the necro is the only profession that steamrolls turret engi. Other than that they are way too tanky and those turrets deal way too much damage. Its not even the AI that’s so annoying really. Its the fact that it takes forever to takedown good built turret engi. They just put their silly tanky amulets and runes and they basically are as tanky as a shoutbow, with the exception that the turrets deal more damage than both builds combined. Regardless of what runes the engi has picked. Which is lame. Oh well.
I’d say power ranger is equally annoying but at least they go down fast.
Heartseeker spamming thieves are annoying as kitten too. They can’t play, at all. Yet they always seem to attack you when you are in cooldown. And they spam a lot.
As a thief main, i want heartseeker nerf. Make it require more initiative. This is ridiculous. They die easily but if they catch you off guard you are done for.
A real tournament (not just leaderboard) should have a ceiling. No more than, say, 15 points per day. Or per 12 hours. Farm the leaderboard all you want, the tournament should have a separate leaderboard. I work 10 hours a day, sometimes 12. I come home I do 5 games tops before its bed time i barely make it into top 500 with almost 60% win rate, just to see myself out of top 500 the next morning. And by the time i come home im so deep in the leaderboards that I ask myself if I can compete with the 16 year olds that nolife in the game :/
TL;DR – The leaderboards are ruining my life by making me asocial LB farmer T_T. I want to see my family more often without losing my god kitten progress xD /s

Queuing from open world increases the chances of people pressing Cancel if they are in the middle of a boss fight. The system beings like this makes it more accurate.
Not really.
Having to afk in the hotm means ppl miss queue pops becsuse they get bored and leave their pc.
In addition there should be dishonor for not accepting and this resolves the issue.
Honestly they fixed some 4v5 games and the cure is about 1000 times worse than the disease ever was. No wonder the game is dying with their amazing 6 esports teams
You get the horn sound and the Gw2 client blinking even if you minimize the game. You have absolutely no excuse to miss the game. I agree, it should punish you for not accepting. But already kinda does. It kicks you out of the queue. So one scrub less. I think ANet has found some sort of golden balance – that is being fair to both parties. If you are that bored, go watch a youtube vid or something, the game will acknowledge when there is a match.
The real issue, that can’t be tackled with a mere software fix, is the lack of critical mass. ANet needs to popularize their sPvP. And IMO they are trying with the current tournament. Their tournaments brought life in WvW and I assume they are expecting the same thing to happen to spvp. I personally don’t think its going to be that easy. Especially for a mini lama. But yeah, I don’t have a better solution either so…
Umm .. hotjoin servers doesn’t get you up on the leaderboards. Only ranked matches does. This is rank level farm. Getting a dragon status while being complete loser at the game.

Weeell be thankful to your ranger! You learned to press #2 and only #2 and rather fast at that! Great skills man, great skills.
Why did Anet made it so easy to teleport UP and DOWN and UP and DOWN and UP and DOWN..
Sorry but yeah i am a warrior and i dont have fancy teleport but these days in pvp all i do is run and run and run some more because thiefs and mesmer just teleport around so much and so easy i cant even reach 80% of the time and mostly because a NON teleport class have to walk around.
Sure you can say classes need this but its just to easy and waaay to much rewarding with ZERO counterplay and zero risk.
Getting really sick of these teleport boring stuff.. waay to much places around i (melee) class cant reach.
This day was an hell with all those mesmers around (mesmer daily)
Gap closers, consider getting some.
So last night I played berserker warrior with dolyak signet and greatsword and longbow.
Kept killing thieves with a single whirl and sigil proc. If they didn’t die from the whirl i just swapped to bow which had hydromancy rune to slowthem long enough for pinpoint shot and back to greatsword for some funtime hundred blades and, you guessed it, another whirl xD
Turret engineers though completely got me rekt. I even trolled around with rangers and whatnot.
Who said the berserker warrior is dead :O
And oh boy those DPS and bunker guards haven’t seen damage warrior in awhile. They just took my 100b crits and downed and were like whaaaaaaaaaaa xDSeriously, beating 2 guards alone is freaking insane. I focused the squishy one, then when his friend went to res him i downed him too.
#GetRekt by zerk warrior lulz.
This thread is about Mesmer, start a zerker warrior thread if you need to discuss.
Seeing your other posts, you’re probably just a thief player trying to derail this thread.
I multiclass. Just for the sake of being competent on the half of the bullkitten you guys come up with
You have to remember though that balance is aimed more toward higher levels of play than that where players ignore shadow refuge. By higher level, I mean potential-wise, not the devs saying “Hmm, Bob seems competent. Let’s balance around him.”
sure, then Anet needs to look like WHY necros, rangers and mesmers are not represented in the higher tiers. Certainly choosing thieves over the other 3 classes have something to do with it to fill the last spot, no?
So we forget about Nos? o.O
I know this is a kind of troll thread. The same guy making multiple threads to encourage QQ about thieves. But there is one pretty big fail which I want to jump on anyway.
the moment i felt threatened id just throw down a shadow refuge and it was amazing how many people would give up looking for me.
This is why “stealth OP!” “nerf stealth!” “stealth has no counter play!”
People don’t think. They are like babies who haven’t developed object permanence yet – the moment they see something vanish, they forget it exists! Then sometime later they reflect, “Oh, there was a thief that vanished. How over powered.”
Look, i don’t know how the pub mentality is formed, but we can all agree that after a while we realize what works and what doesn’t against the general population. So far whenever i pop stealth from healing or shadow refuge its like a second chance at life. The only thing thats been a real issue is ranger AOE. Other than that i’m usually peachy after i stealth.
You are the ranger’s hardcounter. Especially with D/P you have to win 100% of the time in 1on1. If that class is an issue for you, you are not as good as you think.
Then again you said spamming #2 makes you win. Get your MMR up and come back here again.
It seems you confuse both terms, MMR is not Win/Loss ratio. Just my 2 cents.
Those spammy #2 thieves are my favorites. Hope I meet you in a game lol. Free kills for me The only way you can win someone is if you catch them on cooldown. There’s no way in hell you’d win someone with their skills ready for you.

I don’t know if this is a troll post or serious, but i’ll bite… You’re a ranger, try playing something else than pewpew lb and you will see that it was not thief and mesmer that was cheating and hacking but you sucked bad for playing that obnoxious one-trick pony build.
and going invisible or spamming your enemy isn’t a one-trick pony? both those classes do this, every time, without a doubt. fighting every thief is the same, fighting every mesmer is the same.
but you’re talking about a single weapon on my class.. i’m talking about those 2 classes, as a whole. Their total existence and what their purpose in the game is. Shortbow, sword, torch, greatsword mind you.
You probably have kittenty MMR but I dare you to make thief or god forbid, a mesmer, and try playing for few hours xD See how easy all this magical stealth you guys keep talking about really is. Or how easy it is to port to large distances and woosh woosh cling cling the enemy. I double guarantee it that you’ll be dead in the water after the first cling if you fight something other than semi-braindead opponent.
woah,
are people implying Thieves are dying breed in sPvP? C’mon, as a Mesmer and Ranger player, that cant be more further from the truth. And suggesting Thieves need some buffs in order to compete with current “meta” is just delusional, the Anet might as well remove Mesmers, Rangers and Necros from sPvP. Those three are the classes that need “adjustment” for sPvP not thieves.
Well necromancer already 2-shots everyone. I guess necro should kill people just by looking at them?
You want to fix thieves then force them to have longer cd if they are trying to stealth while taking damage.
Or at least if they are taking damage while in stealth they lose some mobility.
Hell I can stealth just as many times as a thieve with my mesmer but no hell in way I can shatter as quickly as one of them are able to backstab me.
Really the only thing that makes me rage over them out of ANYTHING, is my feedback bubble does no counter their dagger spin. It won’t reflect the damage back on them.
O_O Are you saying there are thieves that use dagger storm in spvp?
Plus yeah, ANet’s reflection system kittens itself when a condition like this is met, having to reflect an already reflected projectile.
You do know that dagger storm reflects projectiles right?
My girlfriend was disconnecting a lot last night. We are on different ISPs but still, she was perfectly capable to watch Go4Gw2 @ Twitch while playing. Kept getting booted from games, forcing my team to play 4on5 half of time time in games.
Disconnects occured even on WTS this year. ANet pls … ease up on the disconnect conditions :/
From rank 80 we went to rank 300 because of last night’s loses. I’m a bit upset.
proxy won’t make it better it will in almost all cases make it worse.
Nope. There is a chance to get better. It’s all about the routing. His ISP has poor routing to ANet’s servers. A proxy provider made specifically for gaming might have better routing.
OP, try http://battleping.com/info.php – Its proxy for gamers and supports Gw2. Its a premium service but they have a free plan that disconnects you every 20 minutes or so. Its enough time to check if its going to help you out.
Also, out of all proxy providers I trust battleping the most. I’ve used it in the past and I haven’t lost my account. Its worth nothing to check it out.
They have variety of servers which you can connect to. Test your ping against theirs and on theory they should have instant routing to ANet’s datacenter.
It did reduce my ping in NA Lineage 2, while im European player and I had terrible lag spikes because kittenty routing. Battleping made the game playable.
Also If you decide to wait for ANet to fix your connection, it won’t happen. As others have already mentioned, its out of their hands, physically. The servers are not lagging you on purpose. You have bad routing to them. And its not your fault either. Its your ISP.

At this point i’m under the impression that ANET has only been using its pvp community pillars as a means to advertise its game on twitch. Cheap advertisement and relative word of mouth that the game has some merit to it’s structured competitive pvp.
I won’t argue that the competitive level is solid-even though they all use identical builds. But i have a severe distaste for how ANET is ignoring the majority.
Every day i get some sort of weird matchup, or a few matchups that lead me to believe that very little effort (if any) was put into the MMR system. To put that into context, think 5 man pre-made vs a whole team of solo que’rs. Or even better, a previous match where our team had a warrior who just purchased the game and was trying out pvp.
Okay- for my own credibility i am roughly rank 250 on the pvp leaderboards. There are likely hundreds of thousands of players that could have been put into my match yet this warrior with maybe 3 games played was put into my team. Unacceptable.
You might argue that we got a new mode in the xpac. It’s actually just 1 new map with some new rules. They can market it all they want but as far as content goes that’s almost nothing in comparison to what every other mode is getting.
I like how you assume that thousand of people queue for ranked pvp xD Evidently the matchmaking system is struggling because of low numbers. Most people in HotM afk in there anyway ……
Also yesterday I met 800 AP guy that completely wrecked the enemy team in 4 games. One would guess that he was inexperienced but kitten. So don’t underestimate and by all means don’t just blame your teammates. Sometimes you are as much as guilty as them.
Last night I was raging at one of my pug teams until I saw the minimap and figured that I wasn’t any better than them in that case.
So yeah, its easy to point fingers, blame the people or the matchmaking system. I have experience in matchmaking systems (for 8-ball pool and chess) and those systems are not easy to make, especially more so when there are not enough people signing.
The tournament that starts today is supposed to pull more players into PvP, with which I suppose ANet is trying to boost the populations in sPvP.
TL;DR – Every matchmaking system requires a critical mass of people to function properly. Below that critical mass things tend to get very ugly, very fast. My advice is, try to play on peak hours.
Hey, WildStar is not casul friendly, you might wanna check that out then?
P.S: Non-casual is just another wording for nolife for everyone else but you.
I agree with OP.
10/10 want ~30k Backstab Thieves back.
I just want 1-hit pistol whip back
Its funny because people have been saying this phrase “the last chance left” for about 2 years now
Even though I don’t agree with many of the changes ANet is making, I do see reason behind most of them and why they are doing it. Also its their game, not yours. They get the say in how their competitive scene looks like, not you.
When the game launched some 2.5 years ago everybody was spamming greatsword frenzy warriors.
Do not turn blind eye on what they’ve achieved so far. Don’t be that naive.
My advice … learn to be flexible. Gw2, as all other MMOs is “work in progress”. Strong classes today will be afterthought tomorrow because of some balance patch. Learn to adapt or you’ll always be miserable.
(edited by Ravenmoon.5318)
If the guy understood enough to actually stay close to his teammates, taking the buffs that warriors and guardians are giving out, the thief chasing him would be the one getting wrecked all over the place.
Mesmer work in pvp – roam and make + 1 fast fights. Same for thief. Thief wouldn’t jump on mesmer in 1vs2+ . He would jump when mesmer roams or in fight vs other enemies. Mesmer can jump on thief in same way too, just thief does that work better.
A good mesmer pays attention to where the enemy thief is, and tries to actively avoid him. I’m talking about guys who actively seek to fight the thief, and lose every single time, then complain about being hard-countered.
In a team fight, of more than 1 person, the thief will generally always jump on the mesmer. It’s up to the mesmer to make the right call and attempt to 2v1 the thief with the person he is fighting with, instead of running about thinking he can kite the guy magically and getting ganked in a 1on1 situation since he is too far away from his teammates.
Mesmer can easily trash the thief if he receives some protection from his team.
Mesmers can trash thieves in general. It just takes a really really good mesmer. S/D is only hard because landing a burst is super hard since they evade 50% of the time and landing a well timed burst on a good player in general is usually tricky. d/p can get really trashed by a mesmer if you break their stealth. If it were pure dueling, mesmer would win most of the time if they were using CI
sure, if everyone plays like Supcutie, we would need thread like this… But the fact is not many Mesmers players can play up to that level, and at even skill level, advantage goes to Thieves. With the current meta being Cele-focused build that can absorb decent damage and dish out decent damage, Mesmers is below the curve. When one of the most played class is your hard counter, your life in sPvP is pretty tough.
Honestly even if you take Supcutie vs. Caed, Toker, or Sizer, it’s a no question on who will win more often than not. The thief, and you could argue that all of them are better than supcutie til you are blue in the face, that is a matter of opinion. What is very sad to see is that in every tournament where there is a mesmer anytime a thief engages a mesmer on a point the first thing the caster says is “the thief has a huge advantage in this fight”, or “the mesmer is prolly gonna want to disengage.” Seeing that and saying the thief v mesmer match up is fine is asinine. Yes I know they are competing for the same role in PvP. But mesmer needs a shot of at least somewhat being an option over a thief.
They say the same when there is cele ele on the cap and thief is about to engage
same for shoutbows
same for bunkers
same for tankier engineers
same for condi necromancers
same for lichform necromancer.
So … those are the 5 classes that come ontop of my head that the thief avoid opening at. And you mesmer people complain only from the thief. If every thief starts complaining you hypocrites will be the first ones to tell them to L2P ….
Every class has a hard counter, be it in term of a condi build or a mechanic (stealth) that completely nullifies your abilities. Keep in mind stealth also has a hard counter, in the face of channeling skills. But that’s the beauty of team fights. You don’t have to duel anyone.
P.S: Add dps guardi to the lists lulz.
P.S.S: Lulz, turns out, most of the meta can absolutely wreck a thief. Go figure…
(edited by Ravenmoon.5318)
Can’t wait until your complaining forces ANet to require LOS of siege weaponry or convert all siege to treb/catapult mechanic. Ah the rivers of tears if that happens will be sublime!
I figured as much, but thank you for clarifying it.
lets go /15 char ingame the rest
by this time u havent login yet whisper me in this acc name
Finishing work in 4 hours, hopefully you’ll be IG then
Now for serious input and conversation. Have not had the chance to play since the port changes but so far its sounding awesome. Is it true though Johnny that traited blink still goes on full CD if uneven terrain?
I guess it makes perfect sense to 1-shot anyone regardless of profession? <o> or just thieves should be 1-shot, I fail to realize whats your point here. Sad mode much?
Should we discuss how I run away from turret engineer because I have negative chances of winning or we still discuss that thieves are op and hardcounter is something just the thief is doing?
P.S: That moment when one quotes the wrong post because double post noob, lol
P.S.S: Mesmers are perfectly capable of resetting a fight if they pick mass invis instead of Moa, which I tend to dodge automaticallyI have a suggestion for you then, after reading all your arrogant biased posts, from your absolute noob thief perspective(cause you are a noob thief with what you say) play mesmer yourself since it is so great and let me be the thief against you. Thief is the hard counter to mesmer, celestial is the hard counter to mesmer and thief simple math, you are the hard counter to human logic.
Thief 1on1? (I’m on EU)
^ So you are basically crying because you can’t play around the stealthed characters. Instead of flipping your kitten after a backstab, you have 3 seconds in which the thief CANNOT reactivate stealth. If you can’t count to 3 seconds, you can watch for the regular attack, after the 3rd blow they can stealth again. It’s almost a 3 second chain and by the time they cast Cloak and Dagger the revealed buff is gone. But that’s only for D/D thieves.
If you play against D/P thief they have a much harder access to stealth mostly in the form of shadow field leap combo. SD thieves have it cheaper but they have to be really close to the mesmer for that cloak & dagger.
And the pistol thieves … well … they are a joke ……
I like how everybody just assumes every thief runs Panic Strike D/P … like seriously <o>
In order for me to break a cast I have to stealth first, go behind the target and stab. Or have steal ready. But a fight between never lasts long enough for 2 steal procs. Its win or lose for either profession.
IMO mesmer’s main issue is that it can’t spawn its junk like turret engi and camp. And is also limited whereas engi can drop tons of stuff. And clones are nowhere near as HP enriched as the turrets are.
And then there are the usual skills that fail while run, a good example is Sword #3 even if you get within range at the end of the cast it still fails. There are certainly quirks to the class to work around, but its definitely not underpowered.
(edited by Ravenmoon.5318)
Hmm yeah that sucks. You can set yourself as invisible and you won’t be invited at all as a user fix until ANet looks into this. Im sorry to hear this.
P.P: In sPvP you are not in a party, you are in a team. The team can’t read your party chat.

Well that’s the initiative system. You spam the best skill peppered with the occasional, less used one.
The problem is they made a skill that evades, steals boons, and hits for 4k+ damage, instead of spreading that utility across the s/d set so they would actually have to choose what to spend initiative on.
Nop. Even with double proc crit, its still not 4k+. SD is low on damage, huge on acrobatics. Contrary to DP which may hit for 7-8k under same conditions.
the real nerf is elites actually reapplying stab so steal is kind of useless vs elite stab now
I know, you might actually have to take Dagger Storm to crap all over a necro instead of just crapping on him outright.
Sure, if the necro is blind enough to not see the kittenstorm of daggers coming their way and that rotating thief. I guess the autoattack pros will get shredded. But I always guessed that semi kittened necroes will avoid that
Celestial meta ain’t pushing mesmers out, berzerker thieves are.
Funny I gave you this connotation. I’m saying mesmers are unable to affect celestial meta significantly, NOT celestial meta is pushing mesmer out.
That being said, the reason why I focused on boon strip before is exactly what many suggested here: mesmers’ DPS roamer role is easily filled by other class. Not necessary better filled, but easier. So any idea on what can be done about mesmer’s DPS roamer role other than providing better mesmer/thief matchup option? Also can anyone suggests specifically on what can be done to improve shatter mesmer/thief matchup?
Welp, a staff shatter mesmer almost had me in 1 shatter last night. I missed the tell and from full HP i went to ~100-200 hp.
The amount of oshicrap buttons i had to press under 2 seconds was too kitten high.
Still won, but had to restart the fight. The mesmer was silly enough to let it happen. So mesmers are perfectly fine in the dps aspect, its just some of you can’t play it right. That mesmer capped the point and earned around 20 points for his team by the time i restarted the fight and bursted him down and got lucky on sigils crit.
The keys are locked behind PvE content afaik. The story chapters after lvl 10 and 40 if i remember correctly.
P.S: Here’s the article about it http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Black_Lion_Chest_Key
So tonight I came home from work, feeling a bit meh because tired. And I knew an update was coming that could’ve kitten my class so I was quite weary of it. But then I saw all the twitter talk about the servers overheating, so I immediately updated and ohhhhh my god this update is freaking INSANE.
I love it, I love everything about it The camera changes are SUPERB!!!! I literally spent 1 hour just playing with the camera controls in HotM even fought the bots in first person, not my greatest pvp moments but oh boy was it fun!
This is no content update but it put a smile on my face like a kid that just got candy
And the teleports update is not bad. I absolutely love the fact that the skills are not simply failing now, but give error message and do not go into cooldown.
Kuddos for the great update guys! On my way to check out those stability tweaks.
Just wanted to make an appreciation thread because I don’t know how to contact you otherwise. Im super happy and excited about the changes. Thank you so much!
P.S: Make it like Christmas … do DirectX 12 next!
And you know that they are 5 man premades on TS…how?
Ehm, maybe the perfect coordination between the whole team? Team chat would be to slow to tell others where the enemy is heading when everything is high paced.
When I get in one of these matches I afk at spawn. Seriously no point going in a deathtrap a whole match long. And the worst part is, is that yesterday 80% of my matches were premades vs pugs.
… uninstall this game….
Seriously I kittening hate the people who afk for whatever reason …
It doesn’t matter if you play vs premade or not. You need 2 kittening caps to win a game. Making random kills off-cap doesn’t help your team.
Premades are not unbeatable. Get better. Or find a guild and queue with them. HotM get guild advert spam all the time. Just pick one.
There is nothing worse in this game than giving your absolute best just to see some kittenbag AFKing half the game because they deemed it unsalvageable…
Just go play LOL or some other moba kitten where this kind of crap flies…

Tbh good sd\d thief have upper hand vs hambow. Good use of usual 1-2 stunbreakers, interrupting steal (rip stability), bunch of dodges helps. Though can be time consuming deal.
So then its a matter of player skill rather than just thief built OP as many people in here would have you believe. I’ve been defeated by hambows and i’ve defeated hambows with champion titles and whatnot. I’ve defeated most hambows for the simple reason that they mash them keys as soon as I shadowstep away (i suppose they think i went invis) … its really fun to watch .. and then I have free time hitting them with the whirl I steal from them.
Then again i have thieves dropping all their junk and spamming #3 on my hambow before I even buff the boons and when they run out of initiative I have over 60% remaining HP and I stunchain for the kill.
Having immobilize on cripple is huge boon however. If you catch a thief with heal and shadowstep in cooldown, you win.
Random spawns. Larger map
/15char
Had that happening to me few days ago as well. I thought I had him and i moved on (i lost the target so i thought he died) and then a few moments later he was riding the lightning toward me, LOL
You know, I know how to dodge properly, but the hambow need to stunchain you once. And it has happened to me before, and it is not pleasent. 1 stunchain is all it takes to kill a thief
Wow, such OP. Nerf … thieves should go down after a single normal attack!!!!!!!11eleveone
Your argument is poorly supported. Before you cry about thieves status you should acknowledge the strength of S/D. S/D acrobatic thieves have the most accessibility to evades/dodges than any other builds in game, and many warrior hammer skills have the most obvious animations in game. So you really are just making yourself look bad by saying you get caught in stun chain and was unable to break out of it.
Back to mesmer, I want to re-emphasize mesmer’s role in boon stripping as Selya suggested. We all know that mesmer’s have the highest accessibility to boon strip, so why isn’t mesmer dominating celestial meta? Mesmers should be the nemesis for builds that heavily relied on boons, yet mesmers are rarely seen in teams. Maybe its because mesmer’s boon strip can’t match the speed of boon reapplication, or maybe the need to defensive peel far outweighs ways to make opponent vulnerable. Either way the state of celestial meta plus lack of mesmers shows that mesmer has become lackluster in fulfilling its role in boon stripping.
There are still a lot of underused mesmer traits, perhaps future updates can try to give them more purpose. A good example will be changing furious interruption to corrupt boons on interrupt; bountiful disillusion allows illusions to steal boon for mesmer when destroyed (with CD) etc.
You must be a terribad hambow if you can’t takeout SD thief that decided to attack you o.O I have hambow too and have yet to be bested by a punny thief, lol. In this duel it is the warrior having the upper hand. The thief has to go lengths to defeat the warrior.
All you have to do is to make that thief waste that initiative and then predict where they’ll shadow step so you can CC the crap out of that spot. And you can waste SD thieve’s initiative just by staying in 1 freaking place.
Also you can lure the thief to dodge by sheathing your weapon thus interrupting your casts gaining minor cooldowns. Did you even know you can do that?
If you really want to be an kitten to that thief you can change the bow with axe/shield …
Thief have always needed and still need huge nerfs.
Highest mobility class must never be the hardcounter of anything.
Anet was not able to manage this in two years.
I don’t know if they are blind or if they just simply can’t due to awfull and broken initiative design.
Little tip for you anet…spammable skills must never be powerfull. And the thief shouldn’t die in 2 crits but hey, it is what it is. If you can’t land 2 crits, that’s your fault. Live by the sword, die by the sword, lol
Yes it should…like other zerkers.
And thief is still one of the hardest class to down when well played.
But you are obviously not aware on what a good thief can do.You clearly don’t know how immobilize works.
Agains’t s/d thief… Tell me how well immob works.
S/D damage is meh at best anyway … should all thieves switch to condi so you would feel less whiny, lol o.O
A good hambow will completely negate S/D thief.
Do you realize that a power ranger does more damage with bow than a thief with 2 pistols and has more defensive cleave than one.
S/D is going lengths to keep you dazed and immobilized, its not for everyone, thus the D/P is the meta at the moment. Which is extremely glassy
sorry but, hambow doesnt kill s/d, hambow kill d/p at best with berserker stance off CD, any s/d that knows how to dodge properly can completely avoid any hambow damage other then fire field.
also, DP doesnt really have upper hand against SD, 52 combo can be easily interrupted using steal, and evade spam highly increase the chance of avoiding DP’s steal.
That’s the issue here coming from a thief. I can engage bunker guard, i can engage a shoutbow and evaluate if I can take them out or not (i can takeout the noobs for example) but that I can’t do against turret engi. Some nub that read a build off the internet, putting a tank-ish rune on him and dropping bunch of high dps turrets is perfectly capable of killing me regardless of how well I play. My only way is to move away and +1+2 that guy whenever i see fit. Even rocket turret takes me a good 5-10 seconds to takout, while being shot with a rifle or pistol condi spam. If i disengage to restart that fight, he’ll just drop another rocket turret because they have them on ridiculously low cooldown.
You should play how you enjoy playing, and learn at your pace. Nevertheless, I’ll just add that as a thief you shouldn’t be dueling people that much, especially if you play d/p. You’ll never decap a point, and chances are the node you’re fighting on will be capped long before you duel ends. You should take decaps when it’s possible, and burst down low targets in fights. You can however duel rangers, mesmers, other thieves and sometimes necromancers if you feel it’s needed. So don’t try to duel a turret engi: come with your mesmer friend and erase him in 5s: chances are he doesn’t even run Tool Kit to defend himself.
Wise words. I don’t play DP and I duel on cap or get myself focused by 2-3 and use my deceiving abilities to slowdown the enemies (its hilarious how one thief can tunnel vision so many opponents and make them chase like fools) while my teammates capture points but a turret engineer is like a brick wall to me I don’t know, I suppose the issue is that the turrets deal high DPS even if the engi is built for sustain. This gives them an advantage because if they were zerkers I’d take them out in few blows, like most other zerkers with medium to low health pools.
And there is the occasional decent turret engineer that is not semi-braindead and runs caps as well dropping turrets everywhere.
I suppose I’ll have to remove my mesmer rust and go as that the next time I see a team of 5 engineers. I already switch to hambow whenever I go to courtyard so that’s that. Bring the best tool for the job eh?
Destroy all the turrets? I just take out the Rocket Turret then go for the engy. Seems to work.
I suppose you have no clue how squishy a thief is.
I don’t play much Thief, but I do understand. If I were on Thief, I would not attempt to attack a point with a turret engy without team support.

^ You are talking as if NPE is throughout the whole game. After level 30 its back to basics.
IMO turrets should be as easy to take out as mesmer’s clones. Either buff the mesmer clones or nerf the turret HP. I’ve seriously bursted on that wretched rocket and thumper, oh god that thumper turret … it takes me up to 10 seconds to take out one turret. By that time im nearing death, if i haven’t downed yet.
And that as a burst thief. Those turrets prove harder than actual players for crying out loud…
Constantly being defeated by AI because i dont have the right build is bullkitten. Not to mention that the engi can drop its junk on a capture point and move on. If a roamer thief gets there he will uncap in downed state, while the engi moved to another cap and begins dropping its junk …
My god i swear some mesmer players are terribad. More balance to the fight vs thief? Seriously? Learn to freaking play. I don’t know how many times a mesmer has had me on the defensive (pretty much disengaging because death inbound).
As a thief, i still consider the mesmer one of the harder classes to fight against. So quit your whining, watch some LordHelseth vids and git gud.
Hmmmm, Is it really that hard to understand that sPvP and Gw2’s pvp in general is not meant to be 1on1? Yes the thief has the upper hand vs mesmer
What happened? Did you “git gud” overnight?
Well, upper hand doesn’t ensure a win. You could say that D/P has the upper hand against S/D thief, but go ahead and tell that to all D/P thieves i’ve layed to waste
