The more time passes the more outdated it will be on launch…or ppl won’t care about it anymore.
That picture looks like a thief with a staff.
Yes, that is what we are speculating now, and that elite spec weapons won’t be exclusive to each one, like it may be possible that Druid and thief elite spec will get staff and Chronomancer and rev elite spec will get shield.
Honestly it would be sad. Part of the beauty of this whole ordeal is partially represented by the unique weapon each class can have for elites.

Newbies will get all stories. Season 2 can be bought and they already stated several times they want to make a pack of Season 1 (no release date yet but it will come). So story wise you are on the same level as a newebie when it comes down to access to them.
Yes you “lose” convenience items….but as you said they are convenience and not necessary. In reality you don’t lose anything..you just have them on another account.

Strictly VALUE speaking hands down buying a fresh copy of HoT (not upgrading old account) is MUCH better.
In my case, i just don’t have the time available as i used too to invest in the game and start from scratch. Right now i am not even convinced to upgrade considering the limited content we receive.
For anyone who does have that time & patience not going for a fresh account for that money is a big mistake and a loss in value in my opinion.
“Crafting” you can always login on your main account, craft and then mail it to your other account.
“Bank storage”…you have the possibility of doubling it with an extra account.
“Character slots” …you double them.
What you won’t have on the second account are 3 things:
1. Unlocked achievements
2. Unlocked skins
3. Unlocked main stories/past seasons….which in reality is just 1 season because the first season doesn’t come in a pack. They didn’t have the so called “tech” back then….and the story is not something that will blow your mind anyway.
It’s very regrettable they didn’t choose to offer a cheaper “upgrade” version for the game for ppl who already own it. Very fishy decision and doesn’t promote trust in any way shape or form.
I just wen tin to check and i don’t have that option in the Upgrades tab. Maybe it’s only available to ppl who purchased the base HoT expansion.
It is a step in the right direction. One thing that kinda bothers me is this:
“In the future, if we release further Guild Wars 2 expansions, we plan to offer all of the prior expansions, the core game, and the latest expansion for one single purchase price.”
It doesn’t say anything about what veteran players will get in the future and the character slot received now seems like a “forced hand” more then a reward. I hope in the future u don’t make the same CLEAR mistake of ignoring veteran players who have committed to the game both in time AND monetary, even if you do bundles that have everything, veterans should have receive something extra because they obviously own everything already.
As for the expansion i am still waiting for REAL information about QUANTITY and what you plan to offer us by using living story after and if we purchase the expansion. Let’s say you give us just 1 map in the base-expansion. I want to know how many maps will be given in the future (rough number) till the next expansion. Will we unlock the whole left-side of the map by then? and so on.
Not buying. I could buy the biggest package without issues or feeling any remorse…but as much money i have i also know the value of it and the work that goes into making it.
What they shown so far from the xpac, by my personal standards, it’s not worth:
1. My money
2. The gemstore money i would most likely have spent after the release
3. My time spent ingame
4. My dedication and experience i could offer others.I don’t care about the price…i have more then enough money..but having money doesn’t mean i throw it out the window for the lulz. The content, however much you squeaky-clean white knights want to defend the company, is NOT worth what they offer (or at least what they showed so far).
That being said, good luck to ppl who purchased it. Hope you have fun and that the content (quantity and quality) suits your needs. No sarcasm..i really do…because the price you payed for this product is overpriced.
Can you explain me number 2?
You don’t think the expansion has a value of $50,- However, based on your statement I also conclude you do spend money on cash-shop items.
HoT will introduce at least 2 complete new guild armor skins, so that are 19 (weapons) times 2 (sets) is 38 weapon skin just there.
200 gems is one of the lowest prices on the gem-store (only some really small items are cheaper). So let’s do 200 times 38, that are 7600 gems. That would cost you close to $100. Sure you might not like these skins, but if you give any value to those gem-store items, how can you then now say the expansion does not have the value of $50,-?
Don’t get me wrong, there might be good reasons for finding the $50,- to expensive, what I am more surprised by is that you then do find that the price you pay for those gem-store items is of good value.
Sorry, but that makes no sense to me.
So by your logic am i supposed to buy a product based on how much money i will be paying after? No sorry i am not that kind of person. I pay for products that are worth the investment. The content that comes with this 50$ expansion is NOT worth the 50$. I am NOT paying 50$ on a product that offers me more gemstore items then actual content. I also don’t do calculations like you do. I calculate what i like and i pay for that. I give close to absolute-0 value to items that i don’t have an interest in. If the gemstore is 80% filled with items that i don’t care about then “100%” for me is actually the “20%” items left that actually interest me. It’s their job to give value to their items not mine.
If i wanted to “pay for the opportunity to pay more after” i would have chosen a p2p game. Not a b2p/f2p game….which allegedly “does not offer you p2w items” but the only content you predominantly get are cash-shop items anyway….the rest of the content being a few hours of LS story with huge gaps inbetween..and close to no ingame-skins (again +1 for the wasteland set) armor, weapons, minis..whatever you want.
If the game was p2p with monthly fee and it offered the volume of content (besides cash shop exclusive updates) i expect from a p2p, i would gladly throw even double that amount/month if it allowed me too. It’s down to “how much” they offer for my money..period.
You can find my logic flawed…..but for me personally my logic made me more money then i lost IRL.
Not buying. I could buy the biggest package without issues or feeling any remorse…but as much money i have i also know the value of it and the work that goes into making it.

@Xar it’s not about the PRICE..it’s about what they offer for that price. What they showed so far…that expansion does NOT live up to it’s price tag. On top of that the way they marketed their packages for the expansion give vets a feeling of being left out compared and that anet is willing to do anything out of desperation for a few players more instead of rewarding vets also, in that process.
I would gladly throw 50$ or more on this game if what i receive was actually worth that money (AND I MEAN INGAME STUFF..not just useless marketing minis..and BS). The total amount of information they showed on the expansion (including the interviews which stated they don’t want to put in a big number of maps but instead want to concentrate on smaller areas but vertical – which means 1-2..max 3 maps) is at best worth 30…let’s say 40$ if they polish the F out of it and there are absolutely no gamebreaking bugs.
(edited by Rebound.3409)
The real problem is that they have not revealed $50 worth of content… so far we have seen $15-20 worth…
This^
The content shown is no where close to the price of a full game. They even stated numerous times, when asked how big the expansion is (maps etc) that they will concentrate on a small area and make it indepth..vertical and all that jazz. That means at best 2-3 maps will be released relatively small compared to core maps but with vertical elements that on the long run will not have a good impact as ppl just get tired of 1 zone’s esthetics…regardless of how much goes up or down.
I personally decided not to buy this expansion. The work put into it is no where close the value of my money…and the potential money i would have payed on the gemstore like i did so far in 2 years AND my experience ingame to help other players and so on. When i think about them stating they started working on this expansion for almost 2 years it makes me puke.
I also suggest ppl who just don’t like the deal to NOT buy the expansion. The best way to “punish” a seller is to hit him where it hurts the most..his wallet. No amount of QQ on the forums will change the deals they have now because they already started getting income from them. 1 character slot for base game will have a small impact. The problem runs deeper.

Or did everyone on these forums forget every missed LS episode you have to pay for?
One of the most disgusting “moves” i’ve seen in recent years..and i am not even exaggerating….it’s purely disgusting.
Yes won’t buy it also. At this point it’s an official scam for ppl who already have the game. In all honesty…out of all companies to do such things, ANet wasn’t even on the list…

“because, again, it’s the amount of good content that matters”
What part of the core game wasn’t considered “good” out of curiosity? Because when i think about it like how you say, i still see it as being terrible deal for the expansion lol.
Also you are undervaluing how important “amount” is. By this i am absolutely not excluding quality….but even that quality wasn’t presented to us so how could u know the quality is so big as to counter the quantity?
By undervaluing “amount” i mean that altho the quality of a product is good, if there’s not much you can do with that quality, the product becomes useless (sooner or later). Quantity “of stuff” is what keeps ppl playing an mmo. Quality “of stuff” consolidates the playerbase IMO.
Right now GW2 offers a very good quality in the mmo field…but because of the lack of quantity..a lot of ppl got bored and either just do dailies or quit all together.
Also remember there’s not much quality & quantity you can add to this game untill you change the directx and 32bit state of the game. This game right now is extremely limited in what it could offer us. Tech wise i was honestly sure they would have announced it on day 1..i am still surprised they choose to limit their potential to stone-age level.

I am more in the lines “i am concerned if their work is actually worth the price”…and their silence in general doesn’t make that feeling go away. Am i ignorant for putting the value of my money over the value of a product i don’t know much about? How is that? If they care so much about secrecy they shouldn’t have released the pricetags of the expansion we don’t know know much about..they could have evaded the PR kittenstorm they are in now.
Also please….i would have understood the original game would be an investment as you put it if it were their first game. GW2 would have been a GUARANTEED success just based on how GW1 and all it’s expansions were received (which were cheaper and added a ton of stuff btw..and didn’t hide behind a wall of silence).

That’s exactly why i opened this thread. Want someone to make a comparison list between GW2 (core) and HoT…maybe i am going over something so biblical that it’s worth the same amount as the core game.
A lot of defenders on these forums (not this thread necessarily) but no one is man enough to make the comparison chart..why? They should be ecstatic to make one and prove the naysayers wrong.
Not even ANet? For a company that wants to sell their product (to which we still don’t know a lot about) at almost full possible price, i don’t see them saying anything. Why? They should be ecstatic to show us on what their hard work and dedication went in…the result and they should come out saying “50$ is CHEAP for what we did..look here…and this..and that”…i see nothing.

When the pricetag is that big (one of the biggest possible you could give for a core-game not even mentioning an expansion) you as a company better come up with all the information possible to justify it.
It’s like saying “hey..here ..we have a new bodykit (expansion) for your car (core game). We charge you the same amount as what you payed for the car..but we won’t go into details about it..you just know it’s a bodykit…just trust us..it’s cool.”
The amount of real information about the expansion…numbers..quantity..etc is close to 0…specially when talking about an EXPANSION..not a bigger feature patch.

I never said they should go over the limit. What i am asking is the content they advertised worth the pricetag of the original content-filled game or not. Am still waiting for someone to make the list i asked for to clear things up for me.
And yes it should be metric if you see what you actually get if u are a veteran or even experienced player. What value in HoT makes it worth 50$?
IRL you ALWAYS compare something you buy, with something else from the same category. Hell even if you buy for example a Mercedes “model 1” car. When “model 1.2” comes out at the exact same price as “model 1” you compare it with that and see if it’s worth investing the same amount of money for basically the same car with some extra features.
What you talk about are ideals that close-to-never apply IRL because of obvious reason. Money has as much value as the product you give that money for..and in most cases even more value then the product sadly.
Untill a valid list of actual improvements/content etc which i could compare to the game itself comes out i cannot buy this product. It has the same price as the product..and it can’t even exist without the previous product.
You tell me not to judge a price by metrics…yet they impose i buy their product by their metrics.

OP, are you living in a country with a dictator or something? Ppl are allowed to expres their opinions in the democratic world.
As long as it doesn’t reflect his opinion..all opinions are wrong and should not exist.
It’s very common on the internet and usually comes from ppl who have no way of proving their point or defense..in an effort to not seem like they lost the conversation/case. A defensive technique…a very dumb one.

I honestly don’t care who i pay…i care about WHAT i pay for. There could very well be 10.000 ppl working on this project…as long as the final product is not worth the pricetag, i won’t pay.
That argument is wrong in the real world. You don’t pay the workforce that makes something. In reality you pay for the PRODUCT that workforce makes for you.

@evilunderling so you are basing a price on a fictive, unproven value that might or might not come. So you are basically gambling?
New areas but how many? and how big?
How many dungeons?
How many events?
How many new armors/weapons skins and types that are not gem-store exclusives?
New classes (just 1)
Zhaitan boss fight…..so both have a boss fight, a tie.
Everything compared to what the core game offered us for the same price tag.
The price isn’t bad for the entertainment value. You should log in game. Type /age. Take what you paid for the game and divide it by that number. I paid $59.99 for the game and have gotten over 2000 hours of play. $.03 an hour. Seems cheap to me.
Indeed..that “/age” was provided by the amount of content already offered when it first launched and cost 50$…and i am comparing it to the product they have now and price at the same value..and i don’t see me doubling that “/age” with what they showed so far.
If you can make a valid list of what GW2 offered for 50$ on day 1 and what HoT offers for 50$ on day 1 (excluding the base game from HoT). Who knows maybe you might be the one that convinces me to buy the game.
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/hot/Question-about-value-price/first#post5158535
Yeah but do you even know what you are really buying? xD
That’s the result of “hype” as a concept
. Makes ppl take actions with the impression they like taking it. It’s not just GW2..it’s everywhere. Take advantage of the emotional attachment of ppl to certain things, make them want it regardless of the quality/quantity/price. Profit$$

If i go to a movie, pay full price and enjoy it, i expect the second movie to be at the same level. I won’t pay for a movie which is 30minutes long compared to 2h long like the inital movie, just because it has the same name. Also if the quality is not improved compared to a movie that appeared 3 years ago, i also won’t pay. Why am i so sure “30 minutes” ? I am not…but i base my opinion on what “trailers” they showed off so far and the fact that they base the full price on what they shown.
At least that’s what ppl who rationalize value for money do.

Can anyone make me a list of what this expansion will add and how much of it? (exclude things like professions because we know they are not part of the expansion).
After you make that list, please tell me how is it worth the same amount of money as the CORE game (in your own opinion)? Take in consideration all the maps, all the events, all the dungeons, all the races, all the classes, all the weapons, all the skins the core game gives us..pvpmode, wvwmode………because judging by the price tag of the expansion, the game should literally DOUBLE in everything over night.
So yes..please make a list of stuff HoT gives us for 50$. How many maps, how big are the maps, how many classes, how many races, how many dungeons, how many events, how many armor/weapon skins and types. How many new game modes. Does it have game-wide performance increase? Does it have newer DirectX? Does it support more then 2 cores? (64bit) or is it still as old as Pentium 3? Does it have solid visual improvements? …and anything else that comes to mind strictly HoT related.
I want to judge HoT (expansion) vs GW2 (core game) based on price….and i want to see your view on this subject. Maybe i am somehow blind and i don’t see the “gem” in the pile of “rubble”. I am honestly open minded.
I even go as far as inviting the ANet marketing team to not only convince me but also themselves why HoT (expansion) offers the same level of value for price as the main game (on release day). I imagine they have a speech ready if they want to convince ppl to throw as much money on an expansion as they did on the core game…it’s in their interest IMO.
(edited by Rebound.3409)
This is a good thread..made me laugh
Too bad for the true parts in it
I admit so far everything seems underwhelming compared to the expectations i am used to when hearing about an expansion. Definitely not gonna buy it day 1. Want to see other ppl try it out first. See if it’s worth both my time and money.
You do realize all events are already finished and prepared to be aired. Nothing is last minute…except hotfixes. If you wanted to suggest something u should have done it a long time ago. Nobody is changing anything.
Not gonna happen till at least GW3 in about 10 years. Till then i am sure ANet will offer you payed mementos of Cantha/Elona via gem cash shop.
Quality troll post. Good stuff.
When i got into the beta and saw the videos i was also struck by how low of a quality they were..actually shocked….and that’s comparing them with cutscenes we already had..i just hope it’s a beta thing.
The quality was like that of a mobile phone video upscalled to 1080p and up.
I’m actually slightly more hyped than I was to begin with. I’m going to wait for reviews on the content before I make judgements on it, but I’m pretty pleased with the elite spec reveals so far. I’m picking out some weapons “just in case” I do end up getting the xpac.
You are hyped about features that are not part of the expansion pack. They will be implemented in an ordinary patch prior to the expansion.
Your TL;DR is bigger then your first paragraph
))
I was at first, now my hype has been totally smashed as they continued releasing information but at the cost of not adding nothing new to the live game. I mean events, and content that you actually play. There’s been none. It’s like “oh look, we’re doing an xpac that’s all about mechanics and laying the groundwork, etc, and because of that no new content for ya, sorry everyone is too busy”.
Sadder part is as you said “oh look, we’re doing an xpac that’s all about mechanics and laying the groundwork, etc”. This is 90% a big feature patch….it doesn’t even feel like an expansion..from what they’ve shown so far. It lacks the “meat”…it just offers you “fries” and tells you it has “meat” flavor in it. It’s like they are trying to sell a “ground-laying” feature patch as an expansion..which in reality it should have been just a regular patch that lead to a proper expansion.
They either have close to nothing when it comes to the expectations of an EXPANSION…or they have the worst marketing&communications team i’ve seen…..or both.
Right now i am not enticed to pay for it. If i do get it, i will only do that after 2-3 months pass and see what ppl say, reviewers say..watch some livestreams etc…because right now it lost not only the hype but the trust i had for it.
I don’t understand how that quote tells us it begins and ends on the 26th. It just says it’s starting on 26th and how the program will be during that day. It doesn’t say it’s the only day.
Q: Is the beta just on the 26th? or will it cover several days?
^That’s proving my point. You place in anything (not just games) just a bit of competitiveness, BM will 100% appear. PvP…WvW…
Depends on what you want from the game and what part of it you play.
(edited by Rebound.3409)
It comes naturally. BM and such comes out only from “competition”. That competition can come under the form of raids..big boss fights whatever. In other mmos all that is effected by the trinity specially healer-tank relation.
If you eliminate that, and give everyone similar abilities…then nobody will complain as much as they would if 1-2 ppl fail a group of 20. Here if 1-2 ppl fail, there’s 20 more to do the job.
It’s not because of the ppl playing the game. It’s because of how the game is made. It does not promote competitiveness so indirectly it doesn’t promote BM, grudges and so on that are a result of that competitiveness.
A casual game is played by casual players mostly. Casual players tend to care about things other then “being the first” or “getting that thing”…..2 mentalities (meaning progression) that, when influenced by the work of a team and some of that team failing repetitively, can create irritation.
The other side of the coin is a casual game can feel lackluster….with no impression of ever doing anything worth the time invested. You reach a point where you “beat the game” much much faster then a traditional mmo. Instead of actually putting effort into getting “that 1 thing”.. in this game you get it basically for free even if you are the worst player possible. This means there’s close to no distinction between good players and bad players. That also means, after playing most of the game, ppl will feel like they haven’t achieved anything to be proud of…to show off why they wasted their time in this game.
Everything has a plus and a minus. This thing can be detailed over several pages.
(edited by Rebound.3409)
“Together we’ll make the new Lion’s Arch a metropolis for the ages.”
I expect something completely different from what we have now. They said metropolis..make it so..not some boats tied up together with ductape. I want to see something that rivals a capital city. It’s the main hub of the game..you can call it the capital of the whole game. It should be awesome.
Oh yea..and PROPERLY OPTIMIZED THIS TIME!
O…waw. If you asked me yesterday about what they plan on improving in wvw i would have never come up with anything from that list. I like everything i see.
