Do you take that same attitude to everything in life Rebound?
So you’d say Faust by Goethe for example, is a failure because YOU don’t enjoy or have interest in it? That’s just closed minded.

No..i only take that attitude to things that are of very poor quality. I am not part of the wave of customers that accept anything shoved down their throats with a “clueless” smile. If “Faust by Goethe” would be a failure i would say it’s a failure. If it doesn’t interest me i would specifically say it doesn’t interest me..not that it’s a failure. There’s a major difference. You yourself don’t know exactly the difference between them if you put them in the same context.

The fact that you brainlessly swallow everything around you as being something good with some kind of “flower power” mission behind it as if “everything received is a gift from god and should be appreciated kitten”, i will never be part of that. I own a product. A product that i pay for in gems ingame and in the for of expansions. I expect that product to have quality. The kind of “quality” i ask for is not something uncommon.

I am not the one with a closed mind here. If you look at the bigger picture, you are. Saying “everything is ok..let’s hold hands” (when it’s CLEARLY not the case) has never…NEVER lead to advancement and improvement..instead it always lead to stagnation or in some cases even regression…regardless if it’s a game or something else. If you want something to progress…point out when they kitten up….in order to stimulate a change into the better and applaud when they show something worth applauding….but don’t start applauding for every thing they do regardless if it’s terrible or good because in time quality will drop even more. It’s called “giving credit where credit’s due”

If you want to choose to see the world through a pink lense where even if something is not ok, that’s your decision and your decision alone..but as you see you are in a minority…i don’t see a hoard of ppl here making poetry like you did for ANet’s event..and i am happy it’s that way. We prefer progress over stagnation and regression. If we have to “start wars” for that we will “start wars”.

Next time…instead of using examples you heard of while in the toilet on the radio or a loud TV set on discovery, in order to try insulting someone who was talking (good or bad) about “the subject” and not about “the person who opened the subject”, you could actually come with your own facts on why you think this event was so good…like actual facts….pointing them. That’s how you hold your “theory”…not just throw some BS “Faust by Goethe”, aiming basically at nothing constructive..nothing that would defend your POV…..and nothing that would make you look smarter then a kid on wikipedia/google.

Rebound.3409

IMO there’s a problem in how you compare things.

1. You said you PvPed a guildie. That means 1v1. In 1v1 i don’t think the “special effects” are so many that you can’t identify the movements. Add that to the fact that guy maybe does PvP as a passion..so automatically he’s experience in reading his opponent is not only OBLIGATORY if you want to progress but also vastly superior to yours who either are not interested by PvP or play the game casually and even if you have eagle-eyes, if it’s something you are simply not interested in, your brain will NOT stress itself to care so much as to “give it your all”. There are so many factors that go in this.

2. You compare the above to a blob fighting something in PvE. Honestly that is extremely hard even for experienced players because you simply get lost in all the effects that are happening. Best case scenario is you can read someone’s/something’s movements if you try to focus on that thing and try to ignore everything else. Even then there’s a problem because this being a “smash 1 button win” game, people don’t even care honestly. They know for a fact that if they just keep hitting 1 eventually they win. That translates into people not giving a kitten about focusing.

The comparison between these 2 examples can’t be made. The idea behind what you say is there tho and most acknowledge it. Problem here is, the problem you described has deeper psychological roots. Even if they completely remove the effects you will still not focus because:
a) you don’t care that much about that “something” in order to focus;
b) you just want to relax (which doesn’t mean overly focusing on stuff);
c) the game is so easy that focusing means a useless waste of energy and indirectly (your brain) will ignore in time;
d) there is no “extra” reward for focusing compared to ppl who just spam 1-2 skills. That sense of “unfearness” will in time make you not focus even if you indirectly don’t want that. It’s called adapting. Why work more then the guy next to you if you both have the same chance of “promoting” , get the “same rewards” and there’s no “higher authority” to acknowledge your personal mental “investment” in what you do at the end? Best case scenario you do it to prove something to yourself…but after you do it a few times you stop doing it.

Every mmo on the planet does “free events” regardless if it’s a payed mmo, free mmo or b2p mmo….. you talk like this is your first mmo.
Fun? You are in the minority within a minority of minorities.
Relax? i don’t see how you could relax with events poping and ending almost at the same time..and even when getting to those events, not receiving exp and loot. This event was the pinnacle of what it means to “waste time”. It’s the definition of senseless grind…..anti-socialism and leeching, the very things so called AAA mmos should stay far away from. And yes..i am completely ignoring the bugs and disconnects this event had. I don’t even care about those at this point.

I am sorry you are either trolling (which would make it a good troll) or this thread doesn’t make any sense what so ever. If anything, this event is a bad omen for the upcoming expansion. Seeing the extremely poor quality of an event they came up with, i am worried about what we will get in HoT.

This coming from someone who is bored out of his mind with the lack of stuff to do (as someone who did most of everything).

If you can’t come up with an interesting event (you have a ton of suggestions about how to improve the event in your other topic), please don’t release any more events like this. This event should never had happen….in fact it did more harm then good specially with new players which i think you want to impress.

…and this has nothing to do with blooms. I could care less about them. It’s about “everything” this event was.

So please…just don’t. It’s just sad. Thank you.

Seeing as how it came off as the usual “Zerg from point to point” and “WP if you’re dead,” I said forget it and I don’t even want the rewards that I didn’t get.

You REALLY need to work on those “Zerg” and “WP if dead” problems.

This will never change as long as events are like this “spawn x mobs to kill” without any other effort required.

The no loot from mobs did this.

This event is from my POV fundamentally flawed. It asks ppl to go around leeching, being anti-social..not care about groups and so on just to get a higher experience. In fact it encourages this type of toxic mentality. Why? because you decided to reward players by “buff stacks”.

Here’s how you should have done this event:
- Map-wide mini-events (like now)
—-mobs have a good chance to drop loot
—-mobs give experience (this is good specially for the target audience of this event which is newcomers)
- After the event-bar is filled (30 minutes to do it) a boss appears on the map with a lot of indicators to where he is.
- The boss can’t be killed “1 hit”….It should be something that takes time giving people the chance to gether there and coordinate to kill it. Not just some random useless champion. Should be like a world boss (teq) only half the difficulty. ANOTHER 30 minutes allocated to kill him.
- Rewards should be guaranteed.
—-have to put a checkmark in place. If player X attended the filling of the bar he will get extra rewards from the boss
—-if player X did not attend the filling of the bar BUT was taxied in order to kill the boss, get less rewards BUT STILL he should receive rewards for coming and helping. The MAIN idea here is, people who participated at the whole thing (extra time wasted) should be rewarded more for that…while people who just come for the boss will get their share but not as much. There’s an easy way of doing this. The “bar filling” event is completely separate from the boss event…thus 2 separate rewards. This way you encourage participation.
-Idea for boss: the dragon we were fighting in the closed beta. This way you show off an interesting and different looking boss with fresh mechanics, to people who couldn’t atend the beta..and even get a few extra sells from it

This way the event would have been much more epic and memorable. The way you did it, as i said, is fundamentally FLAWED. It’s sad..it’s repetitive in a bad way…it encourages EVERYTHING an mmo should NOT encourage, it’s bugged filled…it’s rushed and it’s made by a lazy team that was forced to spit out something fast in order to “entertain the plebs” which, i have a feeling, you consider us more and more. This event in this state should not have existed. It’s better to have no event then to have this deplorable put together copypasted scripts already used, in a bad way.

The 30+ target for extra rewards is impossible to hit in that timegap.

20 stacks give you the maximum rewards and you can do it without leeching much, even if you do have to leech a little if you know what you are doing.

Without leeching much? Dafq are u talking about? I just did an event with 21 (in the very last 5 seconds). You know what it took to do that? I LITERALLY leeched EVERY event possible. I went in…killed 3-4 mobs..went to the next…and so on. That’s it, and i BARELY made it.

Is this honestly the kind of mentality you want to see being promoted in your favorite mmo? Constant leeching?

This is the worst PVE event ever for GW2

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Rebound.3409

I am disappointed as well.

The rewards are very small.

The 30+ target for extra rewards is impossible to hit in that timegap…maybe you have a chance if you go completely against ethics and just go..tag a few mobs..and leave the other noobs to finish the event for you. Actually they encourage just “personal goals” not team work. That’s EXTREMELY disappointing of you ANet.

Most events finish before you get there…dafq so most of the time you are teleporting as a kitten allover at a chance to get there in time.

Some of the events don’t even give u the credit-buff. It happened to me several times (staying at the event from start to finish).

This whole event i can’t even consider being a beta event. It’s an early alpha event shoved down our throats.

If this is this the kind of stuff we will see in HoT……………….let’s just say i am even more skeptical now. Quality is dirt-low for this event. The “idea” of the event is good tho….but the world is filled with “great ideas” but only a handful can actually apply them correctly.

Future Specializations

Rebound.3409

Yes that in my opinion would have been the correct way of making “new specializations”. Right now they are not only lackluster but also give you an impression of “been here done that”…because u use already existing weapon types.

I completely agree….but it’s too late. They chose the lazy way out by just giving classes already existing weapon types.

Glinding doesn’t include fighting, it doesn’t give u the impressiong everything is in slow motion…it doesn’t make you look in all directions for stuff that may interrupt you (hitboxes). The overall image is not murky and so on. The feeling is completely different.

Gliding is just like “sit back..relax..and admire”. Water is more frustration then anything else.

Simpler Form for Testing

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Rebound.3409

Ok..so after reading some of the newer things you want to add to the game i went along and decided to give this game another try, in buying the standard version. So here’s my impression so far.

Specializations
Were they fun?
I honestly think most of them were lackluster or irritating to use. Skill transition was clunky/laggy…it wasn’t smooth enough for most classes. Thief …the spec completely rushed. Should have been sniper. Necro seems cool. Dragon hunter….attacks are to slow honestly..it feels like it takes forever to shoot something. Makes me not want to use that spec. Warrior….it’s ok but doesn’t feel “cool” or “epic” at all. Thief is boring..100% not gonna go that spec. Tempest seems lackluster and Chronomancer I didn’t try. Not the biggest fan of Mesmer class. All in all nothing made me feel like I took my character to the “next level” and make me say “omg I finally did it"…because most specs are “meh”. Again check clunkyness lag and skill transition between them.

Did they Change how you play your profession in a meaningful way?
I would have to test them even more. If the clunkyness of the skills would be solved I might use them even more. I did play them a lot during a limited time period…that being said no, I can’t say for sure if it will be gamechanging for me.

How were the improvements to the previous Specializations? (Dragon Hunter, Tempest, Chronomancer, Reaper).
No comment here, I didn’t get to play the last beta. This was my first.

Feedback on new specializations, as well as any changes to the old
Read statements above.

Creatures
How is the difficulty of the new hostile mobs, and are they fun and exciting?
Some were a bit to difficult honestly… I know it’s an mmo but getting shut-down hard by some vets in the map is a bit overkill on the difficulty level. Apart from that good job, I found most mobs interesting, fun and diverse. Apart from checking some of the difficulty levels of some of them, it was really fun to fight them. Good designs, good&fun mechanics. Hope to see more in the future.

World
With the Opening of two new outposts, we are adding in a bunch of new events. Are they fun?
Yes they are…and are group orientated I really liked them. The only fear I have is of dead maps. Having almost all events require groups (because of obvious difficulty stuff) would make solo play when the map is more or less empty a bit of a struggle and irritating. Maybe besides “upscaling” events you should also see the “downscaling” and base difficulty. All in all had a lot of fun and the events are way more “group cooperation” orientated then before. Thumbs up.

Do the new events bring you more into the world?
Well yes because if you want to finish a chain you need to travel half the map with the groups/zergs. So yes…it’s kinda forced but it’s well made and doesn’t make you feel dragged around (at least I didn’t). Thumbs up

Are the new events challenging, meaningful, and interesting?
Challenging?….hmm..a bit I guess? I do have a lot of experience and “challenging” is a big word for me. The only challenge is having enough numbers. Maybe raids will fill that for me…BUT they were interesting. Meaningful? Yes..because of having actually talking NPCs now (which I STRONGLY suggest you make for everything in the future) now you actually care and feel what’s going on (voice, intonation, etc.). You feel more connected to the event and NPCs and make you have feelings like “caring”….imagine that….in gw2. Interesting? Yes…different events with different mechanics and all that. Definitely interesting.

Mastery System
How is the progression?
The mastery progression asks too much exp from my POV considering the number of masteries there are and in the future will be added. They should be lowered or you risk another WvW achievements scenario. Make the game fun not tedious. Don’t lower too much tho.

How is it using the mastery abilities in the current area?
I just got gliding and mushroom jumping. Those 2 are fun. Have to get more to give you a real answer. I suggest for next betas just unlock everything and see ppl use them fully OR dramatically lower requirements for testing purposes. Better for beta testing.

Is the mastery system providing a meaningful area of progression?
It does give you “something” to do other then nothing…so yes anything is better then nothing.

Do you care about experience and mastery points?
Considering how boring this game is yes I care about them.

Does it provide a good framework to add more masteries in the future?
Yes and I hope you do. Sooner or later ppl will finish them and will get bored again. Masteries should be something that players always work for. That being said I repeat…the requirements for maxing out masteries IMO is WAY to big. It’s better to add more masteries/stuff in general, rather then get lazy and make 1 mastery very difficult to obtain….That will just make you feel like everything you do is like a korean endless grinder. Not a very good feeling isn’kitten

Do you want to learn as many masteries over time to overcome challenges later in the future?
I am one of those ppl who wants to have everything unlocked so yes.
Stronghold PvP

Feedback on the new UI
Don’t care

Feedback on Stronghold itself
Don’t care

Bugs
Report and notify any and all bugs using in game system as well as boards. Take screenshots and describe as best as you can
Bongo the One-Eyed has 2 eyes. I am heavily considering a refund if this is not fixed urgently. Jokes aside, the time-to-wait in order to start the next event in a chain should be reduced. I saw a lot of times ppl prematurely leaving. Even i did that…i saw the event finish, the NPCs talk..and then 10s of nothing as if it was all over. Check that please.

What not to worry about
Map reward system
I am not worried…I am very worried. GW2 has one of the most lackluster and useless rewards of any mmos so far….so tread carefully this topic.

Such big walls of text related to something you know nothing about yet.

Depends a lot on the difficulty and on mechanics needed to finish a raid. Maybe a raid makes you sit on a platform while stuff attacks you and your team mates need to do something else. If you are in zerker you won’t last long. Who knows.

If after some time ppl mastered a raid and decide to go full zerker, that could be considered a reward for their dedication and time wasted on learning everything about that raid. It’s also a testament to how well they can play their class if they can survive a raid using glasscanon builds imo.

The big difference is ppl will have to wait god knows how much till anet unlocks the legendary item they want for their class&weapon while others get lucky with the first wave of legendaries. @Substance if that’s the case then it’s a better deal to wait for the end of LS and a discount for the expansion. That would mean more content for less money if you buy it later. RIght now the 50$ is not justified…not yet.

That’s my feelings more or less. I remember a time when expansions told you exactly what you were getting, then asked for the money and a resounding “take it” would follow.

It’s all about making an informed choice and decision which is good practise with all matters to do with money. Hopefully someone is seeing these posts and perhaps realising that a rough or semi detailed outline of what we’re getting and actual content would increase sales dramatically.

Nowadays it’s honestly the same it hasn’t changed much (look at wow expo trailer ex)….the only company that does it wrong or as they say it “different” as if “different” automatically means exceptionally good, is ANet..i can’t think of any other company that sells you promises instead of “here you get this and this and that…for x”.

Buying a game with the so called “promise” they will add more stuff in the future is literally gambling with a company that has proven in time to be very slow and lackluster in what they offer sadly. If they had a better history and image i would have said the odds are in your favor in this gamble…but i don’t see that at this point.

That’s my personal impression at least..and they won’t see any of my money till they either show actual quantity of content not just a few thrown features around OR i read a few dozen reviews after the game is out..and if it’s good then i will buy…because that’s the only way of finding out what they are actually offering in therms of quantity and quality…they are incapable of showing us upfront because they don’t have that much to show really. It would backfire.

@Xstein

Upfront full continent vs 1 map + maybe a few more via living story which will unlock them like in 2 years

lvl 110 (which also automatically means new armors..new weapons, new skins new achievements etc) vs professions which will be fun at first…but after ppl find a good build it will stay that way mostly. A level cap increase also indirectly implies a new goal. Having professions unlock automatically reduces that goal. Having goals in mmos is vital. Level increase in itself may seem useless but it has a psychological impact…makes ppl want to play to get max out and experience stuff.

new dungeons and raids means extra stuff to do at endgame. Not having that means less endgame and we get to where gw2 is….login..do daily..logout.

Those 2 are heavy duty content that keep players playing.

Maybe they’ll add a Black Lion weapons set to your list to, you know, make it more exciting.

Pretty much my thoughts really. “You want to celebrate our birthday? Pay for it!”..that has been the anet mentality for quite some time now and for many other activities. Recycle old content + make ppl pay…and expect ppl to have fun doing those 2.

Soooooo… thursday? You think?

Dude…they barely finished schetching the Shiro Tagachi teaser image…give them time to actually make something related to it. Do you expect them to have stuff done just because they stated they have been working on the expansion close to 2 years?

IT’S JUST BETA!

they stated several times when asked about the number of zones that they will concentrate on a small number instead making this expansion the basis for future expansions…in therms of mechanics/tech behind it. Getting elite specs making this a better update? Please…you either don’t know what you’re talking about or your lieing to yourself.

What you know now is what you will know in 1 year from now. They made that pretty clear if you actually watched their interviews.

So please do tell what the “serious content” you are waiting for actually means. Enlighten me.

Not this year. Snails seem like Husein Bolt compared to ANet’s dev team….specially considering they only give us 1-2 maps + 1 new class + a few scraps in this 50$ expansion.

I would be happy even if they give us the simple option of turning off warnings when salvaging yellow items…because they are as useless as white items.

It’s an mmo…ask for help if you can’t solo. All content they added is soloable.

Don’t remember. But 90% of news things + patches have always been on Tuesday. Maybe it’s monday for you because of the timezone? not sure. Theoretically we should get a news thingy in 24h from now.
