Not only a potential DX improvement but also multicore support…64bit support…anything that would make this game move better/ use resources more efficiently then a year 2000’ dual core game.
We started having 6 and 8 core CPUs..i mean come the F on…seriously ANet.
“Boon stripping” definitely needs a change. I would call it “Boon cleansing” because stripping can have a different meaning.
Yes u are right.
Wut?
The system they gave us information about (as little as it was) is a definite improvement over the current one. Is it a big improvement or a small improvement..time will tell…but it IS an improvement.

Ask them about the game’s “90’s” performance.
Saying “raids are coming” is just like hearing “winter is coming” in Game of Thrones.
….it never does…..
I predict on the third anniversary of the game.
It’s not about making the game look even better dunno what post/thread ever gave u that impression.
It’s about taking what we already have and make it run with less resources or more efficiently. So yes it falls right under how anet has “historically” made the only other game they ever created.
Right now, in this state, this game is a big drag on “not so high end machines”. It falls off the very principle u talk about in your post.
Can’t wait to see how it moves when they introduce even more detailed maps like they plan to in the expansion (maps are now even vertically detailed). What use is to have a beautifully drawn game (art) if most ppl will auto-set it to low settings in order to get above “slideshow” FPS.
(edited by Rebound.3409)
It’s quite impressive how many performance related topics have been opened since the announcement of HoT with absolutely 0 responses or any kind of info/news from the devs. I knew their PR is nonexistent at best but even so….impressive.
How would Rytlock being the first revenant mean everyone coming after him is 80?
..If at school u have for the first time a teacher in economics does that mean on day 1 u are as good as him? Or does that mean u start at a noob level (1) and through his teachings u become more knowledgeable in what he teaches you?
(edited by Rebound.3409)
Yes because u will most likely not get more then 2 maps (if lucky) in this expansion. Instead new maps will be released with LS and slowly leading to Mordremoth. That’s what i understood at least. Is that a good or bad thing? I personally hate if they would go in that direction. I want a content expansion that keeps me playing not a feature expansion with “maps/zones” being considered third class priority. If it’s just features i will most likely continue to do what i am doing now…play the initial content then login for like 10min/day because of nothing to do.
Showing us a dragon and then not offering us a fight with him is kinda dumb on all human levels.
(edited by Rebound.3409)
I predict lots of performance issues. If u thought performance was questionable now in zerg fights..wait till u get that vertical and graphically enhanced new map that has a lot going on besides player interractions.
It would be dumb if they did that and a major sales loss + discouraging potential new players. It will just be one of dem’ “you need the expansion to access this area” things.
That would completely baffle and kitten off new players who don’t know what the f is happening. For us as oldschool players yea that would be fun and a bit of a twist…but u have to take in consideration the whole picture.
Yea…the Zhaitan battle was kinda rushed imo.
Removing or restricting play for a whole race in an mmo is just pure dumb..specially for new players.
The only thing i see them doing related to sylvari is just radically change the dialogue boxes u get with NPCs and (low chance) cutscenes. Don’t expect more because that would be, as i said, stupid.
Apart from the “stock” revenant armor we’ve seen at PAX, will there be other visually different revenant-style armor sets? Or is that like the only one?
We’ll probably not see an engine update up until the next iteration of the franchise. That’s a lot of work to do for something that probably won’t increase profits by much.
Increase profits? Probably not, but a healthy, modern rendering pipeline is important for keeping people around, which is actually where most of ANet’s focus actually is. The living story system, daily rewards, etc, are all focused on keeping people around so that they’ll be exposed to reasons to buy gems.
If you think being stuck on DX9 won’t hurt the game over the years, well… you probably never played Final Fantasy XI, which was in much the same situation, except it was stuck on DX8 instead of DX9. To this day, I’m not sure if you can get a solid 60fps out of it, but then I wouldn’t know, since I gave up a long, long time ago.
“This game is old, so why does it run like kitten?” is never a good user experience, whether for keeping old players or acquiring new ones.
Oh, and for reference, I have a GTX 970, Core i5-3550 and 24GB of ram. Sure, my CPU is a bit of a weakpoint, but I drop to 45fps just running around the dead areas of Lion’s Arch with no one in sight. There’s no excuse for that in a genre that grows based on its wide accessibility. It’s a problem.
Don’t worry about it. I have the new generation 5820K, 16gb DDR4 2400mhz, 7970 OCed with both SSHD and SSD and i get 45-50FPS in LA with literally 8 ppl around me AFKing and 2 at the mystic forge…that for the price of my PC going nuts on noctua fans. The game is unbelievably bad at performance. Am not planning on playing a game that takes out so much of my PC for far too long. Will probably quit if nothing is done about this. I prefer keeping my PC alive rather then sacrificing it for this game.
PS. Any game that consumes more then 8gb of memory has major memory leak issues. There is absolutely no reason it should ever consume over 8gb. Me..you..and many others have double or more the limit.
A potato.
Skill 1: Throw potato with a chance to stun yourself in the process
Skill 2: Plant the potato with enough RNG to turn into onions or other stuff other then potatos
Skill 3: Eat potato and get fat making u move slow
Skill 4: Peel potato and make your enemies laugh at how pathetic you are
Skill 5: Give potato to someone else and share the shame because this is a social game <3
Elite: Wrath of the Potato in which the ghastly misty ghost of the Potato god makes u throw potatoes in all directions and miserably miss everyone. Specially useful in WvW.

Oh yea i am not denying that.
A business that wants to grow usually offers what their clients want…not what YOU (the business) think they want like they are a bunch of muppets.
Raids are partially in (aka marionette style fights)…but PARTIALLY..it’s not a full raid system and i don’t even think they intend to do that seeing they want to re-invent the wheel in everything mmos offer….may it be good or bad they shovel it down your throat and expect u to love it.
Better start introducing those moa backpacks in the gemstore then!
Yup that made me wary a bit also when i saw Joe’s interview. It practically give me the impression they worked 2 years (like they stated) on a major feature pack and not an expansion. Challenging traditional expansions (things ppl are used too and EXPECT) may have a either a very positive reaction but also a very negative reaction if they don’t deliver most of what ppl want..and ppl wanted CONTENT over features not FEATURES over content.
The amount of maps/stuff to do they will provide in this expansion will prove if they actually listen or not to this community..because content has been the most vocalized word on these forums for years now. Ignoring that just to prove a point that u can do stuff “different” might have a very bad result.
Most likely they will also adopt the Living Story way of delivering content..but that shouldn’t effect the bigger volume of stuff we all expect from an EXPANSION… “features” are just a part of an expansion..they should not be the focus.
This being said yes i am scared and a bit pessimistic about what’s to come. This interview made me decide NOT to upgrade to heart of thorns when it comes out till i see ppl try it out and say how much it offers. Not gonna throw money on features that should come mandatory with the game (patches etc). I am going to throw money on CONSISTENT content that has been ask for years now…that means more then “3 maps” if we even get that many.
If not, i will just stop playing and get the expo in christmas when it’s like 5-10$ and more content has been released by then. No use wasting time with features.

Them taking time to create emotes means them allocating less time for other things. ANet doesn’t have a huge team like Blizzard does.
I think it’s in their interest to create new emotes that most don’t notice because of the lowered graphics settings this game most of the time forces u to make in order to make it playable, and make u buy them via gems..so yes i think they will add more just like they did with the dance-book.
Good decent interview. I appreciate it Joe
I’ve seen a tree trunk in the video. Confirmed next-race. Also on the tree trunk were inscribed 3 lines. ANet is the developer of Half Life 3.
Trying to coordinate over chat (regardless of how many options that chat box offers u) is nightmare specially in a fast passed game like this….or at least “above average”.
U want communication u pretty much need to get a program like TS/Ventrillo/Whateverillo and do it there.
Chatting is so 2000’
Dude…. “classes” have been OP months before the game was even launched. Don’t even bother with ppl like these who have nothing else to do other then comment on how OP their imaginative class is and how based on fictive numbers and facts they are.
Way to early. I can’t comment anything on HoT till i actually see the magnitude of what it offers for myself. Even tho they are important bits of information they gave us so far…they are still literally bits of information.
Ppl use emotes that much that they need to add even more? Sry no i personally prefer gameplay and content over a simley face.
Such item..Much gem…Woe
Even desktop users have issues with FPS in GW2.
How smooth would WvWgameplay be on DirectX 12
in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns
Posted by: Rebound.3409
Lol no it doesn’t if ppl are forced to reduce the quality of visuals thus experiencing mediocre art instead of the fullout art. If they don’t..the game’s FPS drops so much it’s not even funny. I don’t know of anyone who likes gaming in any of those situations long-therm.
Play a game that’s pretty but consumes so many resources it makes your fans go up, have low fps and overall terrible gameplay OR play the game on high performance and lower everything to the point u don’t even render ppl close to u with their own skins and still have chokes here and there in bigger events.

Awesome stuff Joe. Can’t wait to see what comes out of it
I really hope at least one of the questions was about the overall performance and potential improvement of it in the game.
Here u go. I enhanced it.
“Special” is not the one taking but the one giving.

Ask ANet if they will ever actually improve the game’s performance.
Also are they planning on a DX change.
They keep adding stuff that’s supposed to be cool but making ppl lower graphics settings for stuff that shouldn’t demand that much on good PC’s kinda negates the whole thing.
All things they’ve added slowly in time made the game very clunky and resource demanding for some reason. I am not talking JUST about wvw
(edited by Rebound.3409)
You know..you can always be both. Just powerlevel a revenant to 80 with books and such and u can explore the jungle together with other players day 1. It’s an available option.
Yea that thing.
They will probably copy paste another past content to fill up the time gap till the expansion. For ex april retro game thing in Rata Sum. Forgot the name.
I hope it’s soon. Right now it’s extremely boring…like…extremely extremely boring. Almost to the point i don’t even want to login for the dailies anymore.
DX9 is fine. The game already looks better than most mmo’s.
Who said ANYTHING about looks? Ppl want a better DX because of performance mainly.
All seem tempting honestly still undecided….but as Azrael said, if any of the new legendaries really makes my jaw drop, i might choose legend first.
I have enough books to insta lvl-80 him but i won’t. I did that with 2 other classes i had and it literally took all the fun out of them i barely play them.
Considering Revenant is something completely new to the game i want to take my time and have fun with him the normal way not the 2-click-maxlvl way.
All i am personally worried about is the overall performance of the game. The new maps have a ton of stuff going on and on top of that it expands vertically. Considering the state of today’s GW2 performance i am worried.
Dinosaurs were part of GW1 maguuma also and i remember thinking how cool it was when i first encountered them….few seconds after dieing miserably to an elite dinosaur lol.
Am happy they brought them back in this “enhanced” version. A bit of nostalgia also. A plus from me.
Yea i want capes also. The current backpacks if u try them out in the closet thing…they pretty much all suck. Each has more negative aspects then positive.
Should ANet fully Beta test HoT b4 Release?
in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns
Posted by: Rebound.3409
Some sort of beta where players can participate i think would benefit them. Players should not be selected purely by guilds like it’s been in the past with EoTM i think? That was just dumb.
Obviously the race/gender on which armors/weapons look best for Revenant. I will let a whole community of beta testers to make me decide which one after the expansion goes live.
