I run a similar build (axe/mace and mace/shield). It works fine in hot join, but in tPvP you’re gonna end up roaming, so its probably better to either be full on CC with like hammer + mace/shield, or greatsword burst dps.

This is a solid build for 1v1ing and general sPvP hot join though.

Of course we weren’t nerfed, we are one of the weakest PvP classes at the moment. The worst case scenario was nothing changed. Best case was some sort of buffs and/or bug fixes. We walked away with 10% damage to long bow auto attacks which is a small win in PvE i guess (completely irrelevant in PvP)

The combo finishers to underwater combat are kitten plain and simple. Thanks for them i guess though? All it does is make angry classes think we got riffle buffs since shot = rifle to most non-warriors.

Easy Fix for the Shield

I’m gonna help you out. Put a sword on your offhand. Now look at skill 5. Now look at the recast timer on skill 5. Now i think you just realized the skill that you were looking for was already on a sword.

Now pair that with a mace in your main hand. Now look at skill 2. Now look at the recast timer on skill 2. Now you have access to 2 skills in 1 weapon swap that has what your looking for.

You want the duration reduced from 3 to 1 second. Most classes are not gonna hit you with more than 1 ability in that time frame, unless its basic attacks (most skills have cast times of 1/2 second + factor in flight time/animation) So a 1 second shield stance is functionally WORSE than both mace 2 and sword 5, since those abilities give you slightly longer windows to trigger the block, and they also give secondary (damage) effects.

So you are asking for a strait nerf to shields. No thanks.

Warrior shield as actually quite solid for what it does.

If you’re using a shield, your most likely doing sPvP.

This is my point. The suggested change won’t hurt sPvP viability but it will help viability in other areas. The shorter duration would make you use it skillfully to block large attacks and the shorter cooldown will keep it viable.

Actually it would very much hurt sPvP viablity….. The long CD isn’t a big deal because the goal of the shield stance is to block a large burst chain. 1 second of active blocking is a stupidly small window, and in most scenarios would only block ONE skill during that time frame.

What your looking for (a spamable, 1 ability block) can be found on a mace or sword. You can’t get enough block as a warrior, which is why you often see mace/shield as a common sPvP weapon swap set.

The power of shield stance is the ability to block multiple abilities from the same source during the duration. If anything, i’d rather have the duration be longer than shorter.

Quickness is just 1 of many problems with balancing in this game. Even the various forms of quickness available are not balanced. If a warrior brings frenzy, he almost always has to bring endure pain to counter the negative side effects. These are both long CD abilities, which means when you use it, you want to be sure you get good use of it. This means tacking on another long cd ability (bulls rush) to set it up. There’s basically no flexibility; your either going with these 3 skills, or not. It also means you either win the fight in those ~3-4 seconds, or you lose.

Warrior in general is in a bad state in sPvP. Very prone to kiting, and getting kited on warrior in sPvP is way worse than in wvw, because there is no viable ranged sPvP option. Its very hard to stick on a target as a warrior since, every class has the ability to apply cripple with easy, and most classes just need to snare you once to get enough distance to cripple kite you. This would be OK though if we had a viable bunker spec, but alas we do not. I find it strange that eles and engies have viable/strong bunker specs, but warrior, a heavy armor class does not.

If you’re using a shield, your most likely doing sPvP. In which case there’s a good chance your traited for both cd reduction on shield as well as missile reflection.

The current shield stance is basically our only way to counter high burst glass cannon builds. The entire 3 seconds are needed to survive the huge amount of frontloaded burst that say a thief can do to you. Even if you build tanky, a thief can drop you to half life almost instantly, and without the current form of shield stance, you can’t recover.

If you want to be the best tank possible, Guardian is better at it.

If you want to be able to tank, warrior is perfectly fine tanking; I run shout heal tank build most of the time for dungeons. Guardian can just do it better/easier. I keep 2 armor sets on me now though; If there’s no guardian, i wear my tanky setup, if there is a guardian, i’ll just swap to dps gear. Keep a shield handy at all times.

Running full glass cannon in wvw is a bad/gimmicky idea. Only occasionally will you be able to pull off huge numbers. Any time you fail, you will probably be instagibed. Even the times you succeed, you will probably die immediately after. The only class that can safely glass cannon in wvw is thief due to their stealth and mobility skills.

Hammer + glass cannon are like 2 completely divergent build ideas too. Hammer is all about CC/support. The Hammer skills themselves are 1.) slow 2.) relatively low damage compared to other weapons. They are used to control the enemy and help support/set up kills for allies. There is very little burst damage in hammer skills.

Its hilarious when i see thieves try to whine their way into warrior nerfs.

We are the weakest PvP class at the moment. I have no fear at all that anet is gonna nerf us despite the constant theif QQ. Rifle isn’t viable AT ALL in sPvP. We will either not be touched (as usual) or eventually (hopefully) buffed a bit.

Bring on your kill shot QQ, i’m not worried a bit lol.

Prices are rising to what they were before all the bots.

You’ll also notice that basic crafting materials are falling in price as well, since the demand of things like ore/wood are directly tied to their counter-parts in fine crafting materials, yet have a much larger/more stable supply source.

Its good or bad depending if you are a supplier or buyer.

Level 80’s and Lower leveled players have different goals when clearing a dungeon like AC exp.

Level 80: wants to clear the dungeon as quickly and as pain-free as possible. There is a significant difference in damage/survival that a scaled down 80 player has vs a lower leveled player going into a dungeon at the min/near min level.

Low level: wants to get the massive exp from completing the dungeon. Lets be real, this is the main reason people take low leveled chars into repeatable dungeons. Tokens are nice, but they will most likely be saved up for when the person can use them for lvl 80 exotics.

No offense, but when i run AC exp, i generally want to get it done asap. I’m not interested in power leveling you. You may be an awesome level 35 that listens to instructions, and knows all the boss fights yada yada, but I can find a lvl 80 to fill that spot that will probably do twice your damage and make things run faster.

Yea kinda sucks, i didn’t realize this happened until today, when i ran with a mesmer and a ranger. Its mildly annoying, can’t use stacking tactics with so many extra, non stacked circles.

Glad i carry a shield around though; buys me enough time to regen enough endurance to dodge everything.

Best dungeon for Gold Income/Time?

The best dungeons for farming are the fast ones generally.

Fast dungeons:
AC (all 3 paths)
CoF (path 1 and 2)
TA (up, up)
SE (path 3)
HotW (path 1)

Personally though, I prefer CoE (all paths). Its by no means fast (average run takes 40 mins for a path, and path 3 can take longer) The chance to get a charged lodestone is too good to pass up imo. You can get a ton of random blues and greens too, since there’s a decent amount of trash to kill (especially in path 2 and 3 where that swarm of undead rushes down the steps)

You don’t need a montage video to know thieves need a nerf.

Go play sPvP, and look at how many people are playing thieves. Alot of the times around half of the players in a match are playing a thief. Hell, even I have a low level thief alt i roll around with in hot join pub stomps. Its simple, its safe, and its devastating.

PvP shouldn’t and probably never be balanced around WvW.

It should and is balanced around sPvP.
Go find me a warrior that runs with a rifle in sPvP and is successful. Go roll a lvl 1 warrior alt and try playing a rifle warrior in sPvP.

Even if they nerfed rifle i won’t care as long as they balance everything along sPvP in the long run (which means thieves will overall get nerfed probably several more times and warriors will be untouched and/or buffed since we are the worst sPvP class).

You’re numbers are quite conservative. Charged lodestones are more than 2 gold each, realistically expect to pay at least 2.5 gold per.

Been farming CoE for charge lodestones recently. I’d say i get a charged core on average 1 out 3 runs (so 1 per 9 chests or so) Pretty kitten slow, wish the dungeon had some variety and less health on subject alpha ;o.

Lets wait till something actually changes before we complain and/or celebrate.

As someone who already threw away a ton of gold into MF and got nothing, i’d be happy for any change that makes the precursor easier to get, but lets see how much better the new method is.

For all we know it just shifts to a fixed recipe that costs as much as its current TP market value, or more (ie: what if it used 250 charged lodestones or something lol….)

Vengeance is good………. if you can even get to use it.

If there are 2 people nearby, there is a 100% chance they will stomp you on their first try. You literally can’t stall at ALL. In a 1v1 situation, there is a 100% chance they will stomp you before vengeance comes up as long as they don’t take more than 2-3 seconds before attempting the first stomp. Warrior is by far the easiest class to stomp in the game; we only have 1 single target knock down, and have to stall for 8 seconds before vengeance comes up. You basically cross your fingers as a warrior and pray they ignore you.

Couple of things:

1.) it is a bug, this was confirmed by a red post awhile back, that in some unusual cases that blade trail damage was ramping up way too much.

2.) it is not counting damage cumulatively like a multi-hit skill. The damage you see is the damage its hitting that target for. You can see youtube clips of this bug happening from the victims side, where they get hit by blade trail and eat upwards to 20K damage in 1 hit and are 1 shot. In sPvP mind you. (more likely to happen to a MM necro)

As to when it will be fixed? Dunno. Most people wouldn’t encounter this bug very often anyways

WvW and sPvP are 2 completely different animals.

Warrior’s completely fine in WvW, maybe even on the strong side. In sPvP though, they are pretty weak. You really only have a few options, and none of them are strong: Some sort of GS/glass cannon build (gimmicky), a shouts heal/cc build (usually with hammer/mace – meh) or tanky/cc (so-so build, usually with some combination of mace/axe/shield). There’s no real viable bunker build either; Its possible to stalemate a 1on1 as a warrior, but there is not enough tools/survival to drag out a 2v1 long enough to play an effective bunker role. So your basically gotta go as part of the attacking group and play some sort of cc/support role (or a gimmicky glass cannon build)

We really need a good elite for sPvP. Signet of rage is good for everything else, but doesn’t cut it in sPvP where you want a powerful, fight-changing effect immediately. Rampage was supposed to fill that roll, but its a terrible skill. Cast Animations on hammers skills need to be sped up or the roots removed, and the base damage needs to be increased (barely hits for more than an axe, with a much slower attack speed)

To salvage or not to salvage?

Salvage all whites of heavy/light armor or weapons of any type. You can sell medium armored whites for more than what you could salvage for on average.

Blues and greens, just vendor

Yellows depend on you. Keep in mind ecto’s have a separate roll compared to rare crafting materials and are therefore unaffected by master salvage kit for increased ecto chance. Masters would just help you recover the upgrade more reliably as well as higher chance at ori/gossamer/ancient. I’d use master on rare armor, and basic on rare weapon since most major runes are at least 4.5-6 silver whereas most major sigils are 1.5 silver tops. Otherwise you just sell it on TP if you don’t want to take the risk. On average though, you will get 1 ecto per salvage, from my experiences.

For exotic, completely depends on its worth on TP. Vast majority of times its better to sell on TP than salvage.

For tower offense/defense bow is better. For general wvw fighting, be it large zerg vs zerg or small skirmishes, riffle is better.

One mini combo i love to do with riffle in a large crowd is find a target > Bull charge > fear me (to get anyone nearby aside from the target i knocked down away) > position behind the knocked down target and riffle #5 to knock them into my team > riffle 2 to root (with leg specialist) > swap to hammer and earth shaker back to my target (and my team). Makes me feel like Alistar from League of Legends lol.

I’m now convinced that the type of rare you throw in effects the chance to get an exotic.

I started out trying to get dusk, and after 92 attempts, i got 12 exotic gs (13.04%)

I decided then to try getting the colossus of rage instead. After 104 attempts, i got 25 exotic hammers (24.03%)

Incredibly different results. Why, i’m not so sure…….. but my guess is there is a generally larger overall pool of possible greatswords results than there are hammers, which might be the reason why the percentages are different.

Now before you go “holy crap, hammer crafting is way better” keep in mind, exotic hammers across the board are worth way, way less than random exotic greatswords. (way less demand for hammers compared to great sword which usually look nicer and have more classes that can use it)

Alot of the exotic lvl 80 hammers are <1 gold. I threw any exotic hammer <1 gold back into the forge……

So now im 0/6 precursor on lvl 80 exo hammers.

Sudden increase in Ecto prices?

Ecto prices are heavily influenced by the price of rares. Rare prices had been dropping the last few weeks, which caused ectos which used to be ~16 to 18 silver, drop all the way to 12. Now they are back up around 15.

My personal opinion is that lead up to halloween and the event itself threw the economy into a bit of turmoil. There was probably less demand for rares during the last week and a half or so which caused prices to fall downwards; the increase in ecto’s back to their pre-halloween pricing is just a normalization.

What’s more curious to me is why elder wood logs increased in price from 35copper to 45 copper at around the start of halloween, whereas mithril stayed constant the whole time (elder woods back down to normal prices now though) The 2 of them are both common components used to craft rare weapons, and of the 2, mithril is usually needed in higher supply.

Thief capping objectives while invisible: intended?

The 2 biggest problem with stealth is rendering issues and how the revealed buff works.

Rendering issues are pretty self explanatory. The way revealed buff works is that it doesn’t trigger if the stealth ends naturally. (only if you break it early) If the thief traits into 4 initiative CnD, and has decent defensive stats, its possible to keep a point contested almost indefinitely.

The only current solution is to have EVERYONE grouped into 1 spot, and spam AoE’s non stop on top of yourself. The problem with this solution is it doesn’t work everywhere. Alot of supply camps have random buildings/walls that can be used to hide behind as a thief. So if everyone’s clustered on one spot, the thief can just hide far away behind a building unstealthed. It takes alot of coordination to take down a thief that is really experienced at abusing CnD spam.

Possible solutions:

1.) Revealed buff triggers when stealth end through ANY method, not just by breaking it on an attack.

2.) All friendly teammates can see damage applied to a stealth character, not just the player who triggered it, or else some sort of very obvious indication when someone hits the stealth character randomly.

3.) Give every class a method/skill that can be used as a stealth breaker.

Of the 3 solutions here, 2 is the least damaging to the thief class (and should have been in by default imo)

I just toss it in with whatever, since it acts as a random placeholder. I threw it in with 2 shields and a torch, and got back a random shield. I don’t plan on throwing in my other 2 with anything worthwhile, just garbage exotics and hope for a random chance at a good one.

Some methods are more viable than others depending on the weapon type.

For example, almost all the exotic hammers level 80 or not are worth less than 1 gold. There are really only a few hammers that are over even 2 gold (precursor, magmaton, ironfist). So if you went the combine 4x 76 cheap exotics > for random 80 exotic, your just as likely to lose money as you would throwing in 4 level 80 rares.

Now if you did this on GS, where there are more weapons that sell for 1.5-2+ gold each, it would probably be more viable. Not sure about other weapons since i really only track prices of these 2 types.

Uh the easiest way is to just salvage all your cloth whites. I use basic salvage kits for that. You will get your gossamer scraps over time (and alot of silk too, that you can sell/promote)

From personal experience, lvl 80 rares are not made equal either. (for 4x rare to exo promotion)

Some exo’s are extremely common. After a big rare dump the last 2 days i walked away with ~10 exos. I had 4 of the same type, and 2 others that i got 2 of’s also. The one i got 4 of the same type, i’ve gotten 8 total of over all my attempts for that weapon type (so thats 8 out of 21 exotics all ended up being the same one).

Simple fix: get rid of all the gimmicky ability swaps, just let us use whatever weapon we have equipped.

New rampage gives stability, and a large, temp bonus damage (not in the form of might so it can’t be removed by boon-removal skills). Pretty simple really, Its less than daggerstorm bullkitten, but at least it won’t be completely useless like it is in its current form.

There’s 2 issues in this game that really bother me. For PvE its the precursor, and for PvP/WvW its the thief (mostly in wvw though where rendering issues completely negates restealth times giving them perma-invis)

I think i’m gonna blow all my gold tonight when i get off work and try for a precursor. if i get it, i’ll continue, if i don’t i’ll probably quit the game and be happier in the long run.

WvW is becoming alot less fun imo also, but for different reasons.

Way too many abusive strategies these days. I’m seeing the stacking turtle crap now which is pretty lame.

Thieves abusing stealth + rendering issues able to perma stop you from capping a spot is the worst though. The only way to counter it is to have everyone stand in 1 spot and spam aoes on yourself. That works in cap areas without buildings and walls but in areas that have those (ie bottom left supply camp), its almost impossible to kill 1-2 thieves and they can stall you out indefinitely.

Anet loves their thieves and their stealth mechanic, and its the most easily abused mechanic in this game since there is ZERO counter play. Really tempted to quit this game, and not because I want to move to a different one, but because this one is so poorly balanced.

how viable is main hand Axe in PVE

Axe is great for PvE, and probably the best overall PvE weapon in main hand.

It has the best auto attack of all the weapons imo; fast, and high direct damage with no frills attached. You can throw whatever you want into your off-hand depending on what you need at the moment, and lose no efficacy since the strongest axe skill is the auto attack. (i carry a 2nd axe, warhorn, mace, and shield for various situations) Its less gimmicky than other melee weapons (swords – bleeds, mace/hammer – cc, gs – mobility) and you can fill your offhand with the extra things you want, while maintaining great dps in your mainhand auto attack.

I’m pretty sure the chance to get an exotic from 4 lvl 80 rares is NOT 20%

Its somewhere between 12-15% chance. My sample size is high enough that i’m fairly confident in this (i recorded every attempt i made for this, and for crafting clovers using 1 clover recipe as well)

On the plus side, mithril ore prices have been dropping a bit these days, which makes crafting them a bit cheaper. Elder wood has been rising though which is sad, because i would rather throw in hammers to try to get collosus of rage, but exotic hammers are worth way less on TP than exotic gs.

I’m at a crossroad myself.

Getting pretty burnt out from farming. I’ve taken a break the last few days, and find myself wanting to play less and less, especially farming. Every time i dump a bunch of greatswords or hammers into the forge and walk away with nothing, i gotta log out and not look at the game.

I dunno if i should just give up on the legendary or not at this point. I feel like if i give up, I might enjoy the game a bit more, but if I do, then I feel like not only is there 1 less goal, but all the money i’ve thrown away already would have been for nothing, not to mention the time farming karma and stuff for the clovers i made.

Done buying gems for now; i’m the kinda guy that gets suckered into micro transactions easily; spent several hundreds on league, and a like 50 bucks on keys already for this game, but its so unsatisfying buying these in gw2 since they are usually temporary boosts, town items (dumb) or RNG crap.

Call me when this game gets fixed…. if it ever does….

Honestly, whats the point of complaining about this?

JC is way, way, WAY cheaper to level to 375 compared to armor smithing. Its not even close. JC is probably the 2nd cheapest craft to level after artificing.

You realize on the climb up to 400. armor smithing used ore AND cloth, instead of just ore. It also uses alot of thread, which is a strait npc gold dump.

Stealth-breakers and/or the ability for allied teammates to see damage applied to a stealth ed character should be added already. That won’t fix all the problems with stealth but its a start………..

Entire stealth mechanic in this game is worse than any other game i’ve played that had a stealth mechanic. Why?

1.) other games have reliable/consistent forms of healing support. This is how you counter stealth + burst assassins in other games; with burst healing/shields from teammates. This is not viable counter play to gw2 stealth with how healing works

2.) you gave thief too many escape options. this makes stealth exponentially more powerful. Thief has alot of movement displacement/gap closers/distancers that are essentially impossible for melee’s to fight against. So not only is the target stealthed forcing you to pick a random direction to attack, but the target gets to use a plethora of distance-creating skills to further separate himself from you. Hell, even the dodge ability is enough to cover the gap between re-stealths.

3.) time between stealths is too short (3 seconds) Combine this with #2, and even a glass cannon thief can reliably escape.

4.) basically impossible to coordinate targeting against a stealth. Even if you get lucky and pick the correct direction to attack the stealthed character, your teammates don’t know; all they see is you attacking air. I see alot of people say “throw down AoE noob”. This is semi-valid. Throwing down AOE does help you apply some damage, but most AoE’s deal damage over time, so you will only apply a small amount of damage before the thief walks out of it. A small amount of semi-random damage is better than trying for complete random damage i guess, but its not a solution.

For stealth breaker, either add this functionality to already existing abilities, or add it as a function of receiving damage (for example if a stealthed character recieves more than 20% of their current HP in damage while stealthed, this breaks stealth – would be harder to de-stealth a healthy target, but easier to on a weakened target) Make damage applied to stealth characters visible to all.

Hate to say this, but if you WvWvW regularly, you ALREADY know which guilds on your server contribute the most to WvWvW and which commanders are good/bad lol.

I guess if you want it visible somewhere its ok, but not really needed imo.

How useful are shields for warriors? PvE

Fine in dungeons, completely useless while leveling.

The less geared you are for a dungeon, the better a shield becomes. (ie, if you do an explorable or a story mode dungeon the very level it becomes available, and the rest of your group is somewhat low leveled as well, you will probably want a shield equipped because you won’t kill fast enough to not take lethal damage, in which case you will need to focus on endurance/survival type fighting.
