Need sustain really to bunker in this game, more so than damage reduction.

There really should be some sort of life-leech trait (it can either scale off of damage, or just a flat amount per hit). That way you get sustain but still are an “aggressive tank”.

Meh, there is alot of holes atm for trying to bunker with a warrior, more fixes are needed for that compared to a roamer glass cannon warrior. I don’t see them fixing this any time soon, since they haven’t even acknowledged the core problems really.

Basically with the initiative system, there will always be 1 “optimal skill” to use relative the other. Heck on every class, every weapon set has 1 ability that is slightly better than the other 4 skills. Every other class has to balance around a CD usage though, so they have to play tactically (how do i set up this ability? should i use it now and hope to use it again later in the fight, or do i save it for when i can set it up easier, etc)

Thief doesn’t have this problem. The initiative system makes this choice for them. There is basically never a need to wait and hold back. You have the option to continually use your best skill so you don’t even need to worry about the others. Sure you can potentially run out of initiative, but you can always disengage or wait a few seconds since it regens fairly quick. It was supposed to make the class interesting and unique, but all it does is simplify the class a huge amount because it removes all the thinking/strategy that cd management forces on everyone else.

Nerfing HS won’t change anything. Even if they nerfed it into the ground, something else would take its place (like death blossum spam for example). There will always be 1 skill out of the 5 that is slightly stronger than the other 4, which will lead to the optimal choice for the thief class to spam that ability (since they can).

Heartseeker itself is absolutely fine.

Its the initiative system that makes it broken kitten Every other class has to manage cooldowns; they can’t just spam their best skill at the start-middle-end of fights; they have to decide to use it either now, or later when its more likely to land (less roll/defensive cd chance)

What they should do is just remove the initiative system, its one of the reason why thief is kind of unfixable; there will always be one “optimal” skill to use, and due to the initiative system, that particular move will be used continuously to the exclusion of all the other skills. After removing it, rebalanced the numbers (probably gotta buff the damage slightly on all the skills) but they would not longer be spam able. Hell, even a 3 second cd on HS would be good enough really…

no offense but wvw is pvp for dummies. No one really complains about anything in wvw balance wise (aside from stealth/culling and portal). Any build is viable in wvw cause people there are just plain bad for the most part.

go play some spvp, get to at least rank10 minimum (doesn’t take that long) playing only warrior. Play free tourneys at least also, and watch what happens to a warrior in those fights. You don’t understand until you try it yourself sorry.

Thief burst - new combo?

All of this would be acceptable if there was a dedicated healing class that could respond to instant-high burst damage with fast heals/shields. The only thing that can kind of do this atm with any sort of reliable speed is guardian, and the fast heals they can provide are too small to overcome this.

In a game with no trinity, there should be no burst assassin class with stealth really. There’s little to no counter play; all you can do is try to react fast enough to survive.

IMO, they have to leave this in, or they would have to completely redesign alot of the maps. Its WAY too easy to range-siege the vast majority of the cap points at the moment. Not even the best bunker builds can eat uncontested damage forever without applying pressure on the enemy via damage and cc (forcing them to move, heal, applying cc all reduces the damage they deal to you).

Way too many random cliffs above siege points that require you to traverse a stair/ramp that is often far from the cap point.

Ranged DPS

You can do solid damage as full ranged dps; the skills themselves are fine, and you are using statistically the same weapons as the other ranged classes.

The downside is, the warrior trait trees are fairly limited when it comes to traiting for ranged weapons. I’m pretty sure ranger and engie for example get more traits for their bows/rifles than warrior does for the same weapons. This is part of the downside to warrior; we can use so many weapons so the trait trees are all spread out for weapon types (and probably half of them only get 1 trait effect)

I wouldn’t say its terrible, but could definitely use some fixes. Matchmaking and ranked queues are the most important.

Its still way better than WvW at least. Any regular sPvPer would absolutely mop the floor with most of the wvw scrubs that you see running around.

Gives people a reason to stay in that particular map. How often do you see people stay on a map where you own absolutely nothing, and try to organize to re-take the front tower, without the help of a decent sized guild effort? During those low-peak times where there isn’t much organization, the random pugs just give up when they see the map is wiped out, and move to a different map.

If you play a melee with no ranged attack (like a bunker or something), your dead in the water without this. The majority of cap points in this game have arbitrary high ground that just creates easy kiting/safe locations for ranged units to attack directly onto the cap point. A melee without ranged has basically no way to fight back without eating massive damage traversing the extra terrain (and it wastes a hell of alot of time chasing them around obstacles too – at which point the ranged guy can just jump down). Think krylo center point, forest all 3 points, temple all 3 points, capricorn 2 side points, legacy center point.

If they ever did make it so projectiles can’t miss, then melees would be absolutely useless. There’s already too many ways for a ranged build to hit directly onto the cap points with huge terrain advantages.

Use sword/shield off set. Full adren sword burst is a 4.5 second immobilize that is applied right at the start of the animation; immediately cancel it by swapping into gs once the animation starts, then hit 100b. If they can’t break the immobilize you won’t even need to use frenzy. This gives you a 2nd shot at 100b (first being the typical bulls > frenzy 100b)

I think it would be a bit OP if it had stability instead. The abilities on tome of courage are so ridiculously strong it has to come with some sort of downside.

I honestly love the idea of just saying “hey chill for a bit guys, gonna read this book, come back and try to kill me 20 seconds from now” lol.

I dunno, tome of courage is pretty good. Just hit stand your ground right before you transform, then you can get the full heal off uninterrupted. This thing is a boss in sPvP really, you almost always win the first major team fight if you pop it, and its even good for bunkering too. Just gotta make sure stand your ground is ready before popping it.

In sPvP, you technically never need to kill anyone. Just gotta make sure your point stays capped (or alternatively, if your taking a point, keep them off the point long enough to cap it yourself).

Started playing bunker guard myself recently and its the first time i played a pure bunker builds and gotta say i really enjoy the different play style. I really enjoy the whole point control and team-support role. Only time i really score solo kills is when a glass cannon commits to a long fight and doesn’t disengage soon enough before eating a cc combo + burn damage.

I love reading the book during team fights, seriously, incredibly satisfying lol.

As my ranger friend told me “can’t lose underwater unless its 1v3”

I’ve personally lost 2v1 against rangers a few times which is why i stopped playing capricorn completely even if there isn’t a ranger in the server. underwater combat is a joke. They keep trying to do small balance/buffs to underwater combat but the biggest problem they haven’t addressed is stomping people underwater. until thats added, it will never be balanced.

Depends on your purpose.

PvE mostly? Definitely a good/strong class
WvW mostly? Solid class, no major problems
sPvP mostly? Try somewhere else heh…..

If you do a mix of all 3, then feel free to roll it. You can always roll sPvP alts and not have to level them to enjoy them, so i’d choose what class you want to level based mostly on PvE and WvW. Really though it should come down to what you enjoy playing the most. I rolled a warrior as my first char cause i enjoy heavy armor melees (and my buddy rolled a guardian so i didn’t want to double-up with him). I basically stopped playing this game in PvE though so i don’t use my warrior that much recently.

People are mistaking the shattered strength trait as the reason why mind wrack is hitting so high when its actually because of the bug/exploit (that has nothing to do with shattered strength.

These are 2 completely separate issues that non-mesmers don’t seem to understand. The bug/exploit tricks the game into think you are shatterer 3×1 clone instead of 1×3 clone (shatter does less damage per clone when there’s more clones available). This has nothing to do with shattered strength trait. The might stacks add a lil extra damage, but the extra 1-1.5k damage per shatter is coming from the bug, not the might stacks.

Its always best to start out tanky until you learn the encounters really well then slowly bring in more dps traits/gear etc as you get better at it. Eventually you can go full glass cannon once you master the encounters.

Healing shouts is a good place to start. I’d say stick with gs or axe though still, unless you really like the hammer. You still want to do some damage :P

Unless your traited for sweet vengeance, you probably dont want to use it in pve.

Not sure what your PvE problems are, warriors pretty easy to level. Not sure what your build is but you might want to get away from healing signet, which i find alot of newer players relying on.

Warrior condition damage builds are just gimmicky. Can’t apply conditions terribly fast unless you use sword burst and/or offhand sword (which you aren’t)

Go for power instead. That way if you decide to use a different weapon along the line you won’t have to farm an entirely different set of armor as well.

This is related to the “exploit” or “bug” in the other thread. Its possible to do without a macro.

I think it only works in full if all your clones are really close by (which they were in this case).

Not much else to say. 2 glass cannons going at it. You took 75% of his life down before he could mirror image. If he was a hair slower at targeting you, you mighta killed him before he even got to retaliate at all.

You can’t maintain 11 stacks of might with for great justice even with shout reduction traits and insane boon duration buffs. You can maintain 6 for a portion of the time. The other 5 is coming from SoR

And yes, when you call balance stance a shout multiple times it implies its effecting the team since all shouts are aoe.

Warrior is fine in wvw. Honestly, wvw is like pseudo pvp, where more than half the people have no flippin idea how to pvp efficiently. Just yesterday i beat some lvl 80 ranger using my lvl 29 alt mesmer and was honestly disgusted afterwards.

If you want a class that doesn’t die alot though, its probably thief…… culling makes thieves kitten its like all your stealths last 1-2 seconds longer. Combine “extra” stealth time with subpar pvpers, and you got a farmfest going on.

Warrior does good though, you can roll glass cannon and be fine, you can roll full tank and be fine, it really doesn’t matter. I used to run tanky there, but now i roll full glass cannon cause people are badddddddddd.

Stances, how to improve?

I think they should be toggle-abilitys tbh.

With pros/cons built in. Maybe make it 2 portions: an active, temp buff you get for toggling to that stance (lets say, switching to balance stance gives you 6 sec of stability), and while maintaining that stance, you take 25% less damage, but can’t crit or something (feels like a bunkerish stance you could toggle into).

Could do something similar with zerker stance, except flip it and make it an “aggressive stance”. Meh, whatever. I don’t think anet knows what to do with this class because warrior is a strong pub-stomping class, but it gets progressively worse the better your opponents are. Its like old tyndamere in LoL really.

The warrior is a noob measuring stick. So I love when someone complains about one.

So wait, you can dodge a skill that gives 11 stacks of might on a very low cooldown and heals? You can dodge a shout that grants stability for a ridiculously long duration in comparison to stability of other classes, also on a fairly short cooldown? It’s not things like hundred blades or kill shot that make warriors strong in my eyes, it’s that they have many skills that other classes would simply kill for. I’ve played just about every class there is with the exception of Ranger at a mid-basic level, and while I understand that warrior does have it’s (major) weaknesses in practical play, there are still parts of the moveset that make me just think “this is much too good to be true”. It’s silly the way other classes complain about warriors, but calling warriors weak when you guys have so many powerful skills and utilities seems a bit harsh.

Buddy. Do you have a warrior? First of all balance stance is a stance, not a shout and its 40 sec cd for 8 sec duration stability + stun break.

My bunker guardian has a shout that gives 6 sec stability + 6 sec retaliation + stun break on 24 sec (30 sec untraited). Its a shout so it effects your team, unlike balanced stance which only helps you I think its pretty kittening obvious which of the 2 skills is better.

I also got no flipping idea what warrior ability has low cd ability gives 11 stacks of might and heals.

What's the deal about D/D Ele??

If its a tanky d/d ele, alot of their damage actually comes from conditions (burn/bleed), since they try to attrition you down.

I don’t think its possible for a bunker guardian vs a d/d tank ele fight to ever end. Neither puts enough damage on the other to win. Even if the guardian got close to winning he would never catch up to the ele if he wanted to run/reset. Both sides would just take turns trying to knock the other guy off the point to neutralize/cap it

The more you play other classes, the worse the warrior flaws seem.

Warriors my main, but for sPvP i slow added other classes in both to be versatile and also learn them in order to fight against them better as a warrior. Problem is the more i did that the more i realized, “holy crap, my warrior can’t do anything against this build”. This would get progressively worse as i added more classes (now i play all the classes except ranger and engie)

Warrior’s just not in a good state for tPvP. Even if you can down someone fast, alot of comps these days run with multiple rez skills, which makes you useless since usually after you blow your combo, you get focused and killed fast (and unlike thieves, you don’t have a reliable escape). Its in this weird position where the most reliable build is a glass cannon build, yet has the worst escape /survival of all the glass cannons despite being a “heavy armor” class.

Pretty much done with this class for anything aside from hot join (warrior farms glory like a boss at least) tPvP, i’m better off playing any of the other classes i play now; i don’t like holding back my team.

Sorry just to clarify for you there Sami, my list of frame numbers are from the beginning of each attack.

So for example #1/#2 are the number of frames it takes for the first and second hits of double chop to occur after casting double chop, not the beginning of the total chain.

So if you want total frames from the beginning of Chop it should be (as there is also a small delay at the end of Double Chop, approx 5 frames).

Start = 0
Chop = 15
Double Chop 1st hit = 27
Double Chop 2nd hit = 40
Triple Chop 1st hit = 60
Triple Chop 2nd hit = 75
Triple Chop 3rd hit = 95
End of Chain = 105.

So:
Chop-Double Chop frames = 40
Chop-Triple Chop frames = 105

Going from SirDiealot’s data a full rotation is 360×0.1seconds = 3.6seconds (or at 30fps, 108frames).

The problem is we don’t know the animation time between a DC > cancel > C without using a inbetween skill. Obviously there has to be one since chop starts from a “neutral” stance animation where as DC 2nd hit would be either in the middle or end of the swing animation. Whats the frame count from the end of the TC 3rd hit to C hit (restart cycle)?

Depends what your main purposes is. For pvp i’ll always say asuran is the best just because they are small and its harder to distinguish their animations (which is very, very important for pvp). If your goal is primarily pve, then pick a norn or human that way you can show off your shinys better (thats the point of pve basically heh). Char also good but their armor doesn’t look too good alot of the time.

Most of the tooltips are just plain wrong when it comes to cast animations. Even duration tooltips are wrong sometimes too, which is even worse imo. I think its because they just ballpark the numbers basically. Something thats like .65 or .85 secs are all probably listed as 3/4ths, but in actuality that .2 second difference per chain hit adds up fast.

Its a decent skill still. Not OP like it used to be now that moa skills got changed a few patches ago (damage in moa form is decent and u can run easy in moa form). Its got way less utility than time warp since its single target, but for hot joins i typically use it because nothing is organized and its every man for himself (and moa is good for these types of situations)

Mesmer is lucky in that all 3 elites are viable and situationally useful.

Now if only they would take a look at warrior elites….

No I find the real player then burst it down (wars have only one shot at their high bust damage) Then after the mesmer vanishes out of my bust before its even at half hp, the battle drags on and I die. Even the rifle is no match for their stealth…

You should have 2 at least if you’re using a useful 1h + shield combo. (ie i use sword/shield and can setup 100b using sword burst > instant swap to gs > 100b) along with the typical bulls into 100b.

You have to really, really outplay them tho to win (My main is warrior, 2nd most played sPvP class is mesmer). You have to bait out the decoy before using up both 100b setups, and you gotta be saving whirl for when you see shatter incoming. Its doable, but extremely difficult. I lose the majority of the time on my warrior when i play this match up and vise versa, win most of the time when i play my mesmer in this match.

Not sure what your offset weapon is, but a sword/shield or mace/shield helps you get another shot off on hb.

Its fairly slow/difficult at the low levels compared to other classes, thats for sure. Low level guardian/warrior are a breeze tbh, super easy and quick.

Just think of it as an investment in order to get one of the best lvl 80 classes :P

Alot of your arguments aren’t very convincing.

Its very easy to stealth in for a back stab. Most thieves have at least 3 ways to stealth, some have up to 5.

Thief auto attack is actually pretty good chain for single target.

You don’t need high defense when alot of your kit provides escapes to pull you in/out of the fight.

Initiative system is a huge buff to the class. Zero CD spam-able skills. Yes you have to wait for initiative to regen once you drain it, but guess what other classes have to do. They have to wait for cooldowns (most of which are on longer timers than it would take for you to regain the initiative needed to use whatever skill you want again.) There i no downside to initiative system when it comes to combat (the only downside imo is it dumbs down the class since you have little “decision making” to do compared to other classes – you don’t have to save skills for precise moments due to CD, and you can spam, so its always best to choose the most efficient damaging skill and use that one to the exclusion of others)

And that being said, i’m for the most part ok with thieves in sPvP. I just don’t think your arguments are terribly good. The only thing is i wish it was harder to play. Again i think the biggest culprit is the initiative system since it removes all the decision making that other classes have to do when they play.

Down system SPVP is not good

Downed state is the games way of balancing glass cannon. If there was no downstate, i think every single person would run a glass cannon build. Part of the weakness of glass cannon is finishing off that person you downed: a sec or so of invulnerability when downed, plus an extra hp pool that forces you to expose yourself to more damage in order to finish that person.

If they removed downed state, they would have to like passively buff everyone’s HP by 50%-75%, while keeping damage flat in order to stop glass cannon builds from being the only viable option.

Call me when this game gets fixed…. if it ever does….

Every class in this game probably would prefer to pair with a guardian above all other classes (except maybe a guardian itself might want a glass cannon dps class)

Back when i did PvE still i was going for Jugg. Then i realized I am probably gonna use GS way more, but didn’t have it in me to grind for twlight since it was a good ~300-400G more to complete than jugg. Ended up selling all my jugg mats and making a volcanus instead (and now i quit PvE basically except when i run wvw with guild – yes, i consider wvw basically pve heh.)

Just build the one for the weapon you plan on using the most. Nothing worse than building a shiny legendary then realizing you don’t really want to use that weapon type.
