i also dont understand why BiS equipment is earned from laurels that you can literally get just by logging in, now if that doesnt seem easy i dont know what is, seriously though this isnt even fun are you kidding me, bit late to the rage post but i just dont get who’s idea this was.

Which is more likely to get more legendaries out in the world?

1- Long boring grind with lots of luck in RNG
2- A fun challenge that one can practice to get skilled enough to complete.

I know many people who don’t even want an legendary just because it is a long boring grind and lots of luck through the RNG to get. But if it was a fun challenge that needs skill to complete, they will just practice till they get it completed.

Also Arenanet is not leading the charge in “noob” friendly, “noob” friendly has been going on for more then a decade, even EQ1 was “noob” friendly, it just wasn’t life friendly if you wanted to get anywhere in the game.

MMO as a Genre in general isn’t challenging, and has been like that since the beginning.

i really dont understand how you came to that conclusion xD i want skill requirements and a long boring grind, i dont want people with legendaries who are bad at the game. they are LEGENDARY

Hello,

Well the problem is with the complains that every type of gamer does in the forums, this is a battle that the developers won’t be able to win, EVER.

I too would love to have more challenging content, but we have to remember that there is still a big portion of the players that are “casual” (I think, that’s what it seems with all the “PLZ NERFFF” posts), or those who complain about not being able to do everything solo (I know it’s crazy, on a MULTIplayer onlline game…).

Anet should just keep doing the dungeons like the latest one, provide a way to solo it and a more challenging one for a team, hopefully that way everyone is pleased.

For the legendary weapons… idk I think that they’re ok right now, it’s something in which you have to do different aspects of the game and it’s something that the casual players can’t get without putting some effort. Placing some skill requirement in it would make it feel more legendary… but it’s not something that bothers me.

The Normal and Hard mode from GW1 would be awesome in here, Normal mode for dumbing down events and Hard mode for the challenging part.

yes i missed this from GW1 :C i loved that game and theyve left out so much and called it a sequel wtf? haha but the legendary, tbh you’re right it isnt that bothering to me because it is still a challenge just a different kind “I’m” looking for, i just don’t understand when games stopped making games difficult and started catering for people who are unable to play well, casual or not there should still be some opportunities to prove yourself,

players shouldn’t have to resort to doing things like solo lupi, things like that should be in the game to give less skilled players something to hope to achieve.

It isnt hard really to cater for everyone, you just need to supply each need without affecting the other, heres my example

I want dueling in open world but other people say duel requests are annoying (yes they are but they arent hard to ignore) i understand this however i see no reason why they are unable to add a duel arena where request can be made only in that area is beyond me, explain that pls xD

its a combination of companies making accesable fun, repeatable content as opposed to tough one time stuff and also due to the player bases aging and just getting used to all the methods of ’’challenge’’ challenge comes from other huimans imo.

This is where i have been getting my challenge atm and have decided to start making videos but there is no real way to record a skilled feat in pvp apart from video which is outside the game.

Hmm yeah not the skill i was thinking of but i see where youre coming from, you could be carried for that one, i just dont see why anet hasnt decided to satisfy both audiences by making skins that take skill to get to give specific prestige to gamers with skill,

Dont shoot me down here but i had played runescape for a while and i remember getting my fire cape which took immense skill and the prestige that came with it was amazing.

Whats happening with games these days?
It seems more and more game companies, especially mmo’s appear to be making thier games (shall we say) “noob” friendly, with GW2 leading the charge, dont get me wrong i love this game, but all i seem to hear is people complaining that if somehting is too hard then it isnt fair.

Now im going to remind you older gamers about a forgotten gem. Ghouls ‘n’ Ghosts.
This was probably the hardest game of my childhood and if you noticed when playing if you found a part too hard then you would not be able to play the game at all, this is extreme yet fun at the same time, the key word their being fun, i understand that games need to be fun but GW2 has no CHALLENGE.

I had previously made a post about the legendary weapons needing a skill aspect to acquiring one, however this idea was shot down with comments such as, thats not fair to people who arent good at the game, well in all honesty as cruel as it sounds i dont believe they deserve one as the weapon is supposed to be “legendary”.

Can anyone point out any equipment or weapons that take real skill to acquire, if not i think my point stands.

1. It’s PVT. Molten Facility offered similar exotic stat combination for cheaper price, thus reducing demand which should lead to drop in price.
2. Someone found recipe and started offensive in pricewar.

Official Response: Drop Rate of Legendary Precursors

in Crafting

Posted by: RedCobra.7693

RedCobra.7693

This is Awesome.

After thinking about it for a while a simple solution would be to change the system as following:

Instead of the current recipe

4 x item -> 1 x item

with a probability of p for the resulting item being a precursor, make it as

4 x item -> precursor_shard (probability q) OR 1 x (non-precursor) item (probability 1 – q)

and make precursors available through the recipe

m x precursor_shard + fancy_stuff -> precursor (guaranteed)

By setting q / m = p the expectation value of a precursor stays the same as before. However, instead of an exponential distribution, the system now follows a binomial distribution, with a significantly smaller variance.

In simpler terms, it would be just like the system used for crafting mystic clovers. Can you imagine what it would be like if the only mystic clover recipe had a 1/250 chance of producing 77 clovers in one go, and 249/250 chance of producing random junk?

The suggested solution gives the system a coarse memory through the accumulation of shards, and cuts out worst excesses in both directions. In that system it’s still in average just as hard to get a precursor as before, but now that hardness is reasonably fair.

my god this is genious, the devs NEED to see this, i really enjoy doing things in steps and would honestly make getting my pre-cursor fun

My idea about the RNG curse!

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: RedCobra.7693

RedCobra.7693

to simply answer the question, yes this would be very difficult to code in, with this you wouldnt just have to change the code for every piece it interacts with but all code that interacts with RNG aswell, RNG is their on the chests so they can continue to make money, this isnt malicious its business and even as a user myself i agree with their method. and as for drops hmmm it might cripple the economy by giving out to much supply of rare items

precursor prices dropping?

in Crafting

Posted by: RedCobra.7693

RedCobra.7693

im sorry but no, this is a ludicrous statement the game has only been out 8-9 months so how can you notice the trend of fluctuation considering the legendaries hit this price a couple of months ago, dont sway the player by trying to sound elite -_- imho yes the prices are dropping and will continue to drop, the items dont have that race value anymore so ppl arent in a rush to get them, not only that theyre getting more common which means they loose value

So ocgreg’s opinion is wrong and yours is right? It’s easy to see fluctuations in items over short periods of times if you check on those prices regularly. I watch prices for certain items and they continually rise and fall the same exact min/max prices like clockwork. Maybe ocgreg plays the TP and has paid a lot of attention to precursor prices since launch. He’s giving his SOLICITED advice just like you, so why the attack?

yes i may of sounded hostile but that was not my intent, just dont want the OP getting confused and making investments/dropping investments due to his comment, no mine isnt an oppinion its a fact, you cant state that it is “Fluctuating” when its starting on its 2nd dip, this is my reason for posting. since reaching the high price its stayed roughly the same with clear signs of buying and selling but no fluctuation has taken place to make it as dramatic as what is currently happening.

Confusion Nerf - Scepter's last breath?

in Mesmer

Posted by: RedCobra.7693

RedCobra.7693

Scepter was worthless before so it wont really change much. They might as well remove the scepter from the Mesmer now and give us something fun, like an axe or something.

Speak for yourself, I play PvE with Scepter/Torch & Staff all the time. Perhaps I am playing a worthless build because you wouldn’t use it yourself? I would never call anything you wish to use worthless, though. Admittedly, Staff is my main weapon, Scepter/Torch is just the icing on the cake-it makes everything in the PvE game rather easy to conquer, to be honest with you (in many ways more powerful than many of my other more power-oriented level 80 characters.)

Not that I agree with this change, though… it’s a bit perplexing that they chose to nerf Confusion, as I can’t imagine many WvW players going for Scepter now. Can’t see how this will encourage build diversity at all, which goes against their own stated words.

Scepter in pve? /facepalm

To think about all those people that must carry you.

a rather bleak look tbh, scepter can become an extremly good support weapon in pve and Wvw when using the Counter correctly, its the only main hand that offers a counter the other is offered by the offhand sword, some ppl use zerk builds to prove they can survive with skill rather than defense, the counters on both of these weapons are imo OP and protect against an attack at the same time

Hmm yes but ill loose reduced damage on clones and blink is far enough with the staff tele i dont want to exit the fight :P but could you elaborate on arcane theivery as im having difficulty thinking of the 3rd utility to use as i normally use a condition remover but i have sigil of purity on my staff and heal conditions on mirror heal

Arcane thievery transfers up to a maximum of 3 conditions from you, and rips 3 boons from your foe. Although you think you’d lose damage from clones, you’d actually be dealing out much more damage in terms of shatter frequency. With the combination of 1.2k blink range, staff blink, and GS. you can kite while dealing effective damage. It’s a nice addition to survivability without risking too much in terms of lost damage.

i see, when you say transfers, do you mean it removes the conditions and gives them to them or does it just copy and paste, the first one would be just godly amazing, and i worry about loosing the reduced damage for each clones as i have 3 clones out 99% of the time :S but i just gave a look at the skill mirror blade and i see what you mean, extra bounce would be quie a trmendous advantage power wise, it currently bounces 3 times, how many more bounces does it get with the trait?

here u need decide or u try do more dmg faster than u die. or do low dmg and try to be annoyng for enemy and wait when he start do mistake

im going to have to disagree with this, i have below average condition yes but the phatasm on the staff is extremely powerful to a GS build due to it scaling on base power, (i have 3500 power on average, the chaos storm works very well for “tagging” enemies and applying those dazes

I actually don’t know anybody playing full zerk. It is something you can do in pve since you can predict attacks from bosses and therefore dodge / avoid most of it.

In WvW as soon as you want to do 1vX fights or have thieves, you might want to put some toughness into the equation. I play myself with about 75% crit dmg and 55% crit chance. Always run with about 20k HP and 1250 toughness ( dont have armor value atm ) which does quite a good deal.

Also, you play scepter / torch, so you might be a shatter mesmer, even though I am not sure scepter is the best choice to generate a clone ( you get one every 3 #1, which means you have to use #1 at least 3 times, which I usually rarely do in WvW since there’s so much more you can do ( #2 #3 #4 #5, or switch weapon ).

I play GS / sword – pistol with phantasm traits, but could work for shatter as well, mostly for its control options. #3 of sword is great help to :
- lock the target
- port to the target
- get armor of chaos ( considering you have an ether field in your utilities )

And then you have the great phantasm from pistol which does tones of confusion via combo as well as the #5, which locks up to 3 targets as well. Confusion being just here to add extra damage and/or stress the target, forcing it to slow down or cleanse while you do heavy direct damage.

It all comes together, but having minimal toughness / vitality, coupled with good defensive skills is really hard to beat. I mostly tend to use defensive skills in an offensive way to basically control the target and give it some fast burst before it can actually do anything.

yeah i agree with you here, i use GS for the obvious power reason and scepter for the OP counter for thieves, torch i needed to have for its target break to give me piece in group fights the staff works really well at keeping distance

Torch with Mesmer (Zerg Killer build)

in Mesmer

Posted by: RedCobra.7693

RedCobra.7693

Looks quite glass cannon to me.

I think I see the logic behind it.

You stay mostly in greatsword to attack from roughly max range doing high amounts of damage that can’t even be stopped by anti-projectile skills (love this about gsword!). If you get in trouble, you are making use of large amounts of stealth to either escape or gain the upperhand.

Basically, you are like a thief of sorts, but you gave up cloak&dagger to gain a laser beam of death, illusions, and butterflies :-)

I’m sure it’s actually pretty good in zerg fights as hitting hard is quite useful there, the Berserker loves crowds, and stealthing often gets a person off you as there is quite a bit more ADD in zerg fights given they have plenty of other targets to worry about when you disappear.

The worries I have are channeled attacks and AOEs as well as good players who spot glass cannons quite quickly. If spotted, you’re like a hare spotted by a raptor (bird, not dinosaur) …

^this

i think youre the first person who actually gets it i agree its hard when you get a thief or warrior that locks you down, i keep the scepter there for its counter yeah aoe’s can be a bit of a pain, i currently reworking another build but this is my first one, i change the traits and gear as i go along in wvw to address the issues that got me killed, eventually if i played enough wvw i would create the perfect build, if such thing exists

See, I’m torn about this kind of build.

On the one hand, I tried a low-level variant of it a week or two in WvW (basically just Mantra of Pain + Restorative Mantras) and it seemed to work really well. Spamming Mantra of Pain gives pretty good consistent DPS and spectacular consistent healing.

The big problem I have with the build is that it’s kinda boring to play. You’re basically just pressing 7 over and over again most of the time. Not to say there’s no nuance to the build because there clearly is, but most of the time it’s just 7 over and over.

Rubbish I play mesmer with runes of the centaur

Good for you, now try without those runes like anybody else. They aren’t even available for condition builds.

condition smition xD after the nerf you should be working on a different build and even before youre 100% correct it doesnt work with condition hence why i always thought it was inferior in anything but sPVP

Torch with Mesmer (Zerg Killer build)

@RedCobra: Full zergs are filled with aoe, that’s how they work. The zerker would die instantly.

The greatsword does ok long range damage, but it isn’t very powerful until you combine it with the mantra traits for enhanced base damage, which you don’t have.

Additionally, your build is so squishy, you would probably kill yourself on retaliation after about 4-5 seconds of greatsword autoattacking into a zerg.

On top of that, greatsword autoattacks are extremely limited in their usefulness. They won’t hit anything on top of a wall, they often won’t hit anything on the ground when shooting off of a wall. It’s basically only a good weapon in open field combat, which is becoming more and more rare.

Lastly, your build has extremely little survivability. You take multiple stealths, but that doesn’t help when you’re getting pounded by aoes. You’ll end up with probably around 16k hp in that build, and the lowest armor possible. You simply don’t have the mobility or defense to last in any sort of zerg battle.

yep just spam the same argument i guess, just wait ill upload a video im gonna right down your name this works as i use it myself, no it isnt spammed with aoe and yes actually i have come across it one time where my illusion died but 99% of the time it flies through the zerg doing massive damage

[Guide] Overpowered PvP Phantasm Build

in Mesmer

There are a few reasons I opted for scepter/sword instead of greatsword. First, the sword phantasm is vastly superior to the greatsword phantasm, both in damage and reliability. Additionally, the greatsword has almost nothing in the way of defensive/evasive utility. It is all offense, which is fine, but doesn’t fit this build. You don’t do offense yourself, you let the phantasms take care of that, and your focus is on defense.

wrong, the knock back skill is invalubale when facing multiple enemies, distance = damage

not my quote but i can answer. first: this build only for 1 vs 1. not vs many
second: 2 block with sceptr/sword=3k-6k insta dmg
gs5 just knock for 2 sec and safe enemy burst

true true in that case then if its just one v one could i reccomend time warp instead of moa the ability to root to that circle do huge damage and then stomp fast is amazing in a 1v1 situation this is a warrior technique but works really well, i do admit you could counter this proposal with the argument that its cool down is extremely long however you stated its for 1v1 and this has allowed me in the past to down and stomp someone in under 5 secs, its beautiful when executed correctly.

Agony! Torment! Pain! PvP Mantra Build

this i very good for one on one but has no capabilty or prospect of killing 2 or more people at the same time :S

If you are in a group vs group situation spamming Mantra of Pain (also Mantra of Recovery) will also heal your allies, plus the Staff in general is pretty good at buffing allies.

yes i suppose youre right, quite a good uniques build tbh, i enjoy seeing creativity such as this, not my cup of tea as i enjoy overcoming more than one player on my own i love the adrenaline but yeah one on one this would be great and to focus in a group aswell, i can see that you can have to defensive weapon sets then instead of devoting one set to greatsword or sword

If you expect the greatsword phantasm to work in a zerg at all, you’re going to be rudely surprised. It will die instantly and do no damage.

Basically what you’ve got here are glass cannon traits…without the major traits to really do damage, and without the weapons to support it. It will be an unbelievably fragile build that won’t really end up doing a lot of damage.

i can see where youre coming from but why would it instantly die, im invisible and i spawn the zerker why on gods earth would a full zerg be spamming aoe into themselves, yes correct they are very much galss cannon traits but id like you to elaborate a bit more, my main method of dealing damage to the zerg is to auto attack through the zerg and deal multiple hits, please dismiss that before saying i do 0 damage, i play attack and then instead of damage reduction i choose damage avoidance. the clones buy time to avoid being locked on and stealth breaks locks, dont pull a strawman argument please.

Here’s some rude feedback for you:

1. If he said it’s a “bad link”, it means he didn’t see the build. How do you provide feedback on a build you didn’t see?

2. You don’t have any runes/sigils in the build link – heck you were too lazy to even put on armour. Saying you run 100% bezerker is not enough detail if you want to provide a “build” for someone to follow/use.

3. What kind of build are you exactly?! You’re not a shatter mesmer, you’re not a phantasm, you’re not a condition mesmer, you’re not even a bunker. Which leads on to….

4. Where’s your damage coming from if you’re mostly on sceptre/torch? You spamming 1 1 1 1 1 1, a bugged i-bezerker and your i-mage throwing confusion with high power, crit dmg & fury for massive damage?

5. I can also dance around a zerg. So can thieves. What’s your point? Can you kill?

6. If it’s meant to be some sort of guide for your BUILD, go into more detail about HOW your BUILD works. The only thing you talked about was how to deal with a thief which was to go into stealth or block a few seconds after they go into stealth. Great job Einstein – you just taught the Mesmer community something new (that was sarcasm by the way)

7. Change your topic title – you aint killing no zerg with that build.

Rude feedback for rude players. Enjoy

nah no such thing as rude feedback, im happy its being critisised to be honest but to answer your points ill try my best

1) its a farely basic build explained in the huge amount of text beforehand, the skill comes from the tactics used please read

2)Sigil of fire on GS restore endurance sigil on scepter and the sigil of bloodlust on torch to stack power, superiour runes of the centaur so i dont have to waste the trait on extra speed for clones.

3) as for what build it is, why are you so stuck to these overused builds for mesmer, the builds tactic is damage cycles through damage avoidance. with GS being the Main damage supplier

4) yes actually damage comes from the 4 skill of the GS tbh but pls see above.

5) yes thieves can do this aswell however with the revealed that got updated on thieves make it really difficult to do this now sa i found out on my 80 thief getting pwned :P hence using the mesmer yes it does kill as most of the GS attack or MUlti hit, select a target at the back and your auto attack with the GS will hit through the zerg in a line and do large dps i need not say more.

6)well tbh all i hear is mesmers complaining that it is too easy for the thief to kill a mesmer through cloak and dagger on the clones, i addressed tihs issue quite specifically due to when fighting a zerg it will always be the thief that can get to you first and suprise you, you need that counter reserved for his second backstab.

7) This build works and id like to bring the value of the mesmer higher im not going to lie and say i run up to a zerg and kill them all in a couple of minutes no thats ludicrous, max zerg size to kill would be about 20 and thats if youre on your own, this can be done over the course of about 10-15mins but youll have to follow them.

thanks for the feedback and yeah if i do come across as rude i apologise but its the internet i mean to jest not anger :P
