NPC clothing/armor release to player?

tbh ArenaNet should be focusing on armor skins in the gem shop rather than town clothes. I’m so over the town clothes thing, like hardly anyone even seems to bother with them and I know that I have no interest whatsoever in anything I can’t wear in combat, and neither do pretty much anyone I play with. Nobody seems to understand or even like this town clothes obsession they’ve got going on… so it’s a big giant waste of resources compared to armor skins.

I like to use the digging tool while in dungeons and ride the broom naked…so yeah no need for town clothes for those xD.
But some better town clothes would be nice. The reason I want town clothes is because Anet listened too much to all the “No skimpy, no dresses for characters who are supposed to fight dragons”. And that is why I think that some armor sets were removed or altered.

The game is still kind of young, but after the 5th (?) weapons set introduced, it would be nice to finally see some new armors. Or at least town clothes that fit with something else than Humans.

Ugh, I really want the pirate outfit you get when you do the undercover drinking contest with Tybalt. I saw it on my thief and instantly thought that it looks perfect on my character ;_;

Isn’t that the pirate outfit that could be (don’t know if it’s still the case) bought in the Gem shop ? It’s been a while since I’ve did that mission.

Queen Jennah’s armor exists as crafted and karma gear. I know a girl that copied her exactly.

http://wiki.guildwars2.com/images/4/43/Queen_Jennah.jpg This one ? I’d be happy to know where that girl got it.

Hey not really sure where else to ask this, but is the armor this NPC wearing available? If so what is the armor and how do I get it.

Figured this would be the thread to ask on since I am also heavily in favor of NPC outfits being available to the players.

It’s yet to be found in game. Probably because it isn’t.

Back in GW1, especially when EotN came out, players ask Anet to have the option of buying heroes and NPCs armor (instead of the reskin we got…). Years later they told us we could do it in GW2.
…We can always hope, it’s not like it’s going to change anything.

Special NPC armor, faces, details, etc, are created specifically for those characters so that they stand out.

If even the members of Edge of Destiny to not stand out (except for their faces maybe) I don’t see why anyone else should xD.
But you are probably right by saying that releasing a weapon skin is easier than 3 armor skins fitted for every race and gender (even if there are no gender differences with Asura and Charr).

I wouldn’t even mind because an armor made available through the Black Lion Chests would probably be ugly. I’d prefer if it’s simply available in the gem shop.

If they don’t know what to do, they can simply add the old GW1 sets…and this time try to put the sets that the majority of the playerbase liked, not something no one wore like 1k Tormentor or the Ranger Krytan armor (which isn’t ugly, but not really th first thing that comes in mind when I think about medium armor classes in GW1). But this doesn’t mean that FoW armor would be a good choice…if it wasn’t for the HoM, I wouldn’t have had the tough choice of finding which one wasn’t as bad as the others >.>

Aside from cooking I don’t use any other crafting. It’s a great tool to level your characters. And it’s not that useless because it allows you to gear up your alts.

However sometime it would be cheaper to buy the finished product instead of crafting it >.>

At level 400 you can craft exotics. It requires T6 mats and ectos, which again can make it more expensive than simply buying the piece you want on the TP.

the ‘flash’ dungeons as I call them, that are being introduced with these events -should also come armor with vendors; OR since that would be unfair to players who join later if its a non permanent dungeon/event and gw2 is all about ‘fairness’ then create new permanent dungeons in the future.

With all the items introduced by the gem shop for a limited time, I think the “fairness” factor is gone. With the Living Story I hoped a new armors would be awarded or sold on the gem shop (even if it would have been probably ugly if SE and CoF armor are references), and then with the updates to South Sun, I’m still hoping.

But what we’ll get in the end are : gloves, breathing masks and shoulders. With none of those pieces looking good with most armors (especially the shoulders…what’s the point of those ? They are your typical symmetrical shoulder pieces…).

When you complete explorable mode you get tokens which you can use to buy exotic gear.

As for the dungeons :
-Ascalon Catacombs : a few months ago the final bosses of this dungeon got changed. Some players can’t learn the new mechanics as such it has gotten less popular, but finding a group isn’t hard.
-Caudecus Manor : one of the dungeon players hate the most. If your team carries reflects or know how to use blocks/blindness it shouldn’t be hard.
-Twilight Arbor : I hate it. It’s not too hard, but the final bosses are extremely boring.
-Sorrow’s Embrace : players don’t bother with path 2 because it’s a long one.
-Crucible of Eternity : fighting Alpha (the boss in every path) is simply a matter of going in melee range (even if you don’t use a dagger) and dodge at the correct time (which you’ll learn with time).
-Citadel of Flame : most farmed dungeon
-Honor of the Waves : the bosses in that dungeon have a too high amount of health, and some fights take place underwater, so at least have correct underwater weapons if you plan to go there.
-Arah : Giganticus Lupicus (a boss who’s there in all 4 paths) can be quite unforgiving for newer players.

In every dungeon you need to learn something : how a monster behaves, the patterns during a boss fight, when to dodge, which skills you can bring.
If you die too much (especially on a necromancer) then try to tweak your build and armor until you get better at surviving.
If someone gets downed, try to get him up unless you have a chance of getting downed too.
If someone blames you because your team keeps dying, it’s not your fault. I wouldn’t say that all of your team sucks, but 4 players cannot put the blame on a single person if they wipe during a fight (unless it’s clearly your fault because you aggro’ed something at the wrong time).
If someone is being a troll, the block list is there.

Sometime your team will exploit making some encounters impossibly dull (like in AC p3) or jumping around to get to the end of the dungeon in a short amount of time. Sometime your team will want to skip monsters by simply running through and without fighting. As a necromancer you shouldn’t have too much problem with that.

Finally : when you don’t want to play your necromancer don’t hesitate to create a new character. Unfortunately, as of right now, necromancers aren’t too great in dungeons, kind of like rangers and engineers (they aren’t bad, but they aren’t great). I’m not telling you to create a warrior (I hate playing as a warrior) but to try other classes, so at least you’ll have a better understanding of your teammates characters and what they can and can’t do.

And if you have a horrible experience, don’t give up.

I decided to try out the keg toss today. I practiced with the Norn npc’s for awhile and then entered the game. Once inside, I found my team standing in a circle with the other team passing it along. The were just achievement farming. Ive heard that it is already rampant in the crab toss too. Anet, if you do add more mini games, please dont tie them to achievement points.

You know what I like to do when I see that ? Ruin it for them

Do people still hate/avoid RANGER and THIEF?

I have a thief. I play with my thief in dungeons. But sometime, when I see another thief in the group, the initial reaction is to cringe. It’s not really because of the profession, but how some people want to play it : like a glass canon ninja…it wouldn’t bother me too much if they were able to do it, but dying every encounters is extremely annoying.
And it’s far from being an isolated case.
But I still don’t kick anyone based on profession.

Why necromancers don't quite cut it (by Zzod)

in Necromancer

Posted by: RedStar.4218

RedStar.4218

(PvE only point of view)

I loved playing with my necromancer, I didn’t have any troubles whatsoever leveling and getting the explorable achievement. Nor did I have any kind of difficulties running dungeons with my guild (the only ones I didn’t try with my necromancer are CoE).

Of all the classes I leveled, it’s the one I had the least problems with (but maybe that’s because I crafted for at least 30 levels for the rest of my characters).

But now that I have every classes except rangers and engineers, when my guild wants to do a dungeon (full guild group or with 1-3 PuG) :
-I bring my guardian when I want to run to go without difficulties
-I bring my warrior when I want to finikitten quickly
-I bring my thief when I can’t/don’t want to take my warrior
-I bring my mesmer when the guild mesmer doesn’t want to come
-I bring my elementalist if it’s needed in AC

But my necromancer ? I bring her to hear my guildies QQ. The run will go without too much problems, but it could be so much better and bringing my necromancer when I have access to these other classes is simply annoying everyone.

It wouldn’t bother me too much if their DPS fell short when compared to other classes, but there isn’t a single thing a necromancer brings to a party that cannot be found somewhere else.

Boon removal ? Mesmer and thief can take care of that. Sure “Corrupt Boon” is really a great skill, but when was the last time you honestly thought “If only someone could take care of all of those everlasting boons ?!”

Conditions ? Ignoring the fact that some bosses are virtually immune to conditions because they remove them excessively fast, any other classes (such as thief and mesmer) can apply them sometimes better than the necromancer. And fear…well not that great because when enemies are all tightly together, allowing every attacks to hit all of them (aside from the necromancer of course), fearing them is the last thing your team wants.

Damage ? If your only goal is to bring damage, your best bet isn’t playing a necromancer.

Necromancers aren’t awful. It’s pretty easy to play and a team blaming the necromancer for an awful dungeon run is an awful team to start with.
But when you compare it to other classes, you wonder what’s the point of bringing a necromancer to a dungeon when every build you could think of can be found on another classes and with better options.

sPvP might be another story. I like playing sometime with my necromancer there, but I’m far too awful in it to be able to judge. But all I know is that I never thought when I was playing with another class “that’s it, I’m bringing my necromancer to get back at them”.

It’s like the wiki says :

“Exact location is Poi- Saliah Bayt. Usually going there, the Event is underway or the Chicken Coop Event fails because no one is doing it. Finish the Chicken Event and the Veteran Chicken Event and wait a few minutes. "
The waiting time for the event to start over after killing the veterans is around 8 minutes and the time you have to destroy the Chicken Coop is 6 minutes.

After that a Champion will spawn. If you die, when you come back the event might not appear on your map, but the Champion is still wandering around. Once you kill him, you can buy the riffle.

Of course the end is full of fake textures and what not, but at least I got to it. It would be a nice little jumping puzzle. And now I’m going to wander around those textures.

In Blazeridge there’s an area called Monument Ground, located where the Great Wall is.
In it there’s a small jumping puzzle (if we can call it one) that leads to a chest.

But it’s not the only thing you can find there. As you can see by watching the vista, there seems to be an even bigger jumping puzzle there.

After wasting an hour or so trying so many possibilities, encountering so many terrain glitches, I finally managed to find a route that worked. That was until I encountered an invisible wall that prevented me from going up the stairs.
Which made me remember why I don’t bother exploring in Guild Wars 2 : they had a ton of ideas, some got implemented, but others weren’t so lucky.
But instead of erasing every traces, they leave bits here and there, making you believe than you are on to something only to make you realize that in the end there’s nothing because the content isn’t finished or was simply abandoned.

So, what kind of thing did you find that was unfinished but is still there (like mini games in various cities) ?

Unless they patched this out, the traps deactivate when you aggro the next group that comes after the three at the end of the hallway. I usually run with a thief, so I would SB and Steal or something to the guys at the end of the hallway, run over and shoot at the next group of mobs and then stealth back.

I ran CM again for the first time in a long time yesterday, and it looked like alot of the cheesy strats have been fixed. It’s entirely possible this one had been changed as well.

You don’t have to aggro the next group for the traps to deactivate. And how is deactivating traps a cheesy strats ?

It’s similar to p1. The trap corridor seems to be hard, but I don’t know, most of the time we skip that part by having someone wait at the doors. But the times I failed at that simple task I don’t remember my team having a hard time get through it normally.

What really irks me is, even after some people in your group make it to the end of the hall, they can’t deactivate the traps.

The traps are deactivated when you go further down the big room, a little before you can aggro the big group.

I think its unfair to expect players to understand game mechanics that are never properly explained.

And no dungeon should demand reflection. Only a few classes have access to that. I want to be able to do a dungeon with my friends, and not force someone to re-roll a guardian.

It’s sort of trial and error. But what I have noticed with PuGs is that they don’t change their approach if it failed. They continue to bash their heads again and again and again until it magically works or people leave.

Mesmer, elementalist and guardians are far from being the less played class. And even if you are in a party without them, a necromancer and a thief can greatly help. (Don’t know anything about engineers and rangers).

I love CM, I would play that dungeon a lot more if playing with PuGs in it wasn’t that horrible. Not because they are bad (some PuGs are pretty good) but because they generally want to exploit everything…and while I’m fine with skipping monsters in any dungeons, exploiting in CM is simply awful.
Just like exploiting Frost…A tip : stand in melee range and circle around him. You can easily dodge his beam and kill him. And it works better if all of your team does it.

You mean we need to bring those pillows from upstairs all the way down into the basement, and through all those tunnels? That’s absurd.

And no, I’m not talking about the spike trap in the upstairs room, I mean the one in the tunnels below. Where there aren’t any pillows to throw.

Oh woops, got the wrong room because of the “no way to shut them off”.
As with anything in CM, reflects are ncie to have.

Or for something a little exploity before killing the boss, have someone wait at the door. As soon as it opens, rush through it until the ramp (but before aggroing the big group) to deactivate the traps.

in pve? because before whatever gave us these numbers that’s the only place you could find a zerg.

Now now that’s not really accurate. You don’t find random zergs anywhere. Only at Dragons, Maw and SB. It never ceases to intrigue me how a “pve” server like GoM has CoF and CoE very rarely opened or the gods statue uncontested only once every week (to be positive) aside from Melandru.

1 enemy thief, permantely contesting keep

in WvW

Posted by: RedStar.4218

RedStar.4218

ONLY make the tower/keep/SMC contested if it has been hit by a ram/cata/treb/golem because a single person contesting it is just -_-.

Some zergs are big enough to destroy a gate without any siege.

As for catching a thief, try to do it and it will at least give you an idea to how to catch one instead of gathering 30 players and not being able to catch one.

And traps and marks are something great.

But as unfair as that mechanic is, there are so few players who bother do it because it’s utterly unrewarding. It might help your server cap towers and camps but the lonely thief ? He gets absolutely nothing.
So because it’s not something that affects every server every day every hour, Anet will probably take their time to fix it.

I’m really confused as to why this alleged 30 zerg couldn’t prevent one stealth thief from getting by. Necro Marks, Thief Traps, Ranger Traps, any of them around the gate would prevent the thief from melee-contesting it. If a thief has to ranged contest, that means she needs to be closer to the guards or to where this 30 man zerg is standing around (they should also be scattered around the gate). I’m going to assume there are a few exaggerations, and thus it makes it more difficult to take the issue seriously.

When I do it I range using pistols. So the best way to prevent me from hitting the gate is to form a sort of body wall right in front the gate to take the bullet instead of letting it hit the gate (when I’m tired even the guards can prevent me from getting the gate >.>)

What are you talking about? GoM used to be tier 1 in WvW, until we got blame for the fly hacking the orb trend. Everyone started to move servers that’s why we are here @ tier 8. We used to have a huge zerg for WvW, every map pretty much a long big line. Nowadays we just suck due to lack of numbers, that’s why we are here at the bottom of the barrel.

We aren’t happy and laid back, one of the reasons many big WvW guilds left our server in the first place was because people keep trashing the commanders in charge. We lost at least 5 300-500 men + guilds because of that reason alone. GoM casual WvWers are dumb, all they do is flame map/team chat when we’re losing and criticized the commanders when they themselves aren’t any better.

It’s called advertising.

But in the end, it’s kind of true. Why the hell would you still be in GoM if it wasn’t just to be in GoM ? You could have left ages ago while the free transfers were still up, or a few weeks ago when they opened medium server transfers.
PvE ? It surprises me that GoM is considered a high PvE server when few players bother to do any other god statues than Melandru. Anything that isn’t a low level zone if incredibly empty.
But dragons…wow there’s way too many players there (good luck not ending up on overflow if you want to do Jormag).

But you are kind of right with the commanders thing, but then again there will always be a few trolls. A lot of time the players are nice towards commanders and the less players somewhere, the better they are at listening, even if you don’t have a commander tag.
A lot of players just need to be given objectives, they don’t really know what to do. That’s because a lot of them are casual WvWers who only want to play if there’s someone leading them.

Score update-FC is startin to catch up to you GoM, better not take 3rd in your first T8 matchup lol.

Why don’t you just chill and try to make your stay down here more fun instead of worrying about numbers?

Oh wow I didn’t know you had access to server transfers information…

Sarcasm aside, if you would have so much as glance on the different threads regarding server transfers you would have known that when they opened, most players wanted to go to HoD “to play in small groups”.
GoM being on very high population, and not really into advertising, didn’t get something noticeable.

And for the last time : look at server population, especially Europe, look at the rankings and once and for all understand that server overall population means nothing when talking about active WvW population.

I have a feeling that psychology will play a large role in how all 6 servers will deal with the swap… and that it’ll lead to both matches being 100% 2on1 the whole week.

FC and ET are going to focus on GoM to sink it’s rating as close as possible to theirs.

SF is going to play for second place to make sure they don’t drop back down and HoD will take advantage of it to try to climb into T6.

fun?

I actually hope that those on GoM will think “better get out of T8 as soon as we can”. But then again, if we have fun in T8, I don’t really see what’s so bad with being in it.

We are also 8 and the bounties rely heavily on luck. It takes in general two tries to do the T1 (first try, we just want everyone to get the rewards and second one we split to find both bounties).

We got Sotzz twice in a row this week, the firs time we didn’t even get to it because of Mayana and the second time two guildies went to search for him while we took care of the other bounty. We got to searching Sotzz with 5 minutes remaining, complaining how stupid this design was. But where we happy when we found him with less than 2 minutes and killed it rather quickly.

The major problem really is that the bounties are not consistent. I’m not even talking about the fights, but about finding them.

This, its like the only fight in the game that isnt just throw higher numbers on the health bar. I cant wait for boss fights to be challenging because of mechanics, not a battle of attrition.

Except that the Frog boss doesn’t have the same problems as other mobs : player variation.

Everyone has a wooden stick hitting for 25 damage, needing at least 3 tries to kill it.

In dungeons, a full team of necromancers aren’t don’t have the same DPS as a full zerker warrior team. And because a boss might need a few seconds/minutes to expose his abilities, they have to find a balance.

For example, GL, the most cited best boss design. Look how a feedback makes phase 2 exceptionally short. He could have all the interesting abilities in the world, if you can kill it before it had a chance to use them, you won’t get to see those abilities.

So the problem isn’t as much bosses having high health pools, it’s that they don’t have interesting mechanics to make up for their health pool : if there are no variation, if you can do something for 30 seconds, you can probably keep it up for 10 minutes with your only problem being boredom.

The OP probably ended up doing the JP, but for those that might be in the same situation : the NPC that triggers the event can be found to the south/south-west of Morgan’s Spiral and it probably got killed along the way.

GoM is considered to have a very high population most of the time. But I have no idea why…I don’t even consider it to be a PvE active server : zones are desperately empty, if you want to do CoF or CoE your best bet is to guest in another server…

What does most of the population do ? Wait for meta events…It’s not rare to see 2-4 commanders (who are never in WvW) waiting for an event to start, with 20-30 other players. And once the event starts it creates an overflow.
Now, we play the SAB.

Super adventure bosses > dungeon bosses

Only because of the rock/mushroom safe spots. Take them away and it turns into the most engaging boss fight in the game

Let’s not exaggerate, dodging his attacks while staying in front of him isn’t too hard. At first the timing might not seem to make sense, but once you have learned, it’s not too hard.

Guild Bounty boss question

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

RedStar.4218

Yesterday we got Sotzz and Mayana…We got Mayana after 10 minutes of searching and figuring out different kinds of bugs (party members didn’t appear on the map and we weren’t on overflow).

Then we launched another bounty to get the merits. Sotzz and Michiele….2 of us went to search for Sotzz and 5 of us for Michiele, by the time we killed her we had 5 minutes to find Sotzz. Luckily we got him with under two minutes left and luckily he doesn’t have a lot of health.

The big problem with Sotzz, is that if there are multiple guilds searching for him, only one of them might leave happy. The others will have to check every single kegs around the whole map again. (It’s sort of true for other bosses, but they are a lot easier to search for).

HoD has a large And talented WvW crew. We are still a HIGH server. NSP and GOM are both VERY HIGH servers. In theory, you two could still be winning.

Seafarer’s Rest, EU number 1 server, is a medium population server. While GoM is listed as very high, a lot of players there don’t care about WvW at all…I see more commanders fighting dragons than in WvW.

What HoD got weren’t people looking for PvE, they got WvW players that were tired of playing in zergs or in T8.

Issues with getting in dungeon instances

in Bugs: Game, Forum, Website

RedStar.4218

Sorry to bump this, but it’s gotten worse since the last update : it happens every time we try to do a dungeon. Be it with guildies or PuGs, from the same server or different servers, it happens almost every time.

-The “join” message doesn’t pop up
-When it pops up nothing happens when you click
-Trying to join the instance by walking through the door creates another instance

And when you have this bugs plus the party bug when your party log doesn’t update (so you don’t realize when someone new joins or leaves), it makes it quite complicated to do dungeons…basically it takes us more time to get everyone in the instance than to do the dungeon.

Please Explain the Logic of the AoE Limit

Lastly, your 10 mesmer comment doesn’t really make sense, seeing as how a zerg is likely to have its own mesmers, as well as other professions that would counter such tactics. But as it stands now, no matter how much hypothetical strategizing is done, the simple fact remains that given how WvWvW is currently setup, the quickest and most efficient way to “win” is to zerg from point to point. If that’s ANet’s long term vision of WvWvW, its likely to die off sooner rather than later. A WvWvW that encourages lateral thinking and tactics may be more difficult at first, but has much greater long term potential.

If one team has the advantage, how can you talk about “Mutual destruction” ? The removal of the AoE limit will benefit the defenders far more than the attackers for the simple reason that the attackers won’t benefit as much as the defenders because there are rarely 6+ defenders on the small section of the wall their AoE can hit.

You said it yourself, currently the defenders do not need to outnumber the attackers. To stop an attack, they need to destroy the siege and then prevent the attackers from building again by cutting their supplies or killing them.

As for the mesmer part, it was a joke…A joke about mesmers using their push and pull skill to ball up a zerg. And then quickly kill them. (Of course, stability will make that unusable, unless of course shouts and boons are still under the limit).
But if you want to analyze a joke : how can attackers do that to players inside a keep ?

And technically, the best way to win isn’t to “zerg from point to point”. You need to divide your zerg to be able to take multiple points and defend those you took, heavily depending on your population and your enemies population.

There are healers/support classes

Something not really in the game.

Now if we extend the removal of AoE limit to support skills, the new zerg will say “Stack and spam healing kills and shouts”.

I’m not saying that the current system is perfect, I’m saying that removing the AoE limit won’t be something that makes WvW better.

You don’t seem to understand a basic point. If the defending team has a couple of elementalists, then the attacking team can tote along a few. Mutually Assured Destruction. The game would be much better if there WAS an arms race of sorts, where builds could counter other builds via intelligent skill use, rather than just out-DPSing and sheer numbers.

The defending team has an advantage. It always does.

Basically, what will happen is this : stay hidden in the fort, wait to form a small little zerg, then portal bomb towards the siege.

While portal bombing is not uncommon, what it achieved was limited to destroying the siege and maybe killing a few persons. If the limit is removed, a portal bomb will be extremely deadly with a few elementalists (or anything that can throw one or two AoE).
“But you can spread out”, not that much though, go too far and they won’t even need a portal bomb to get you.

And what exactly is the advantage given to the attackers ?

But actually, for the hell of it, imagine 10 mesmers, playing ping pong with a zerg by using Illusionary Wave and Temporal Curtain.
