Wood Farming for Nevermore

Don’t forget that you can only craft 1 Glob of Elder Spirit Residue per day. In the worst case scenario you are looking at 100 days until you have your 100 spiritwood.

If you have the dedication to work on the same goal for 100 days, you’ll easily meet your total logging time.

So what IS the point of precursor crafting

It was never meant to make legendaries cheaper anyway.

Because that’s what we’ve been asking for since launch and what they should have delivered.

Really ? I thought the main complaint was : there’s nothing legendary about having to buy it and pure luck regarding the precursor.

So they gave us a scavenger hunt to take away most of the luck part. It’s too bad that for now buying it from the TP is cheaper than getting it from that scavenger hunt (remember that buying it is instantaneous. For the collection, not only do you need a lot of gold, you also need a lot of time).

Of course, the main thing affecting all of that is how the TP is completely messed up due to HoT and everything that came with it. With time prices should go back to being lower (that is of course if Anet doesn’t release another thing requiring tons of woods and ores).

Will you prepurchase next expansion?

If I have the money to spare and more importantly if I’m that bored. Like this time. I stopped playing at the end of LWS2. I didn’t even read one word of changes before buying it 20 days ago.
I didn’t read anything because I know Anet well enough to be completely uninterested in their hype trains and their extremely careful choosing of words. So I had extremely low expectations and luckily HoT was above it.

Not unless ANet pulls a 180 on their design intent.

After all this time, what exactly do you consider to be "their design "? Because GW2 changed directions quite a lot since it was announced.

And it won’t be for quite some time if they only put in when we can actually craft it. Because according to their blog post " Completion of this first collection will span the first three raid wings. Once completed, it will award a set of ascended precursor armor and unlock the next stages of the journey."

Some of the advice here is interesting. It’s basically “Don’t try to become a better player. Just range forever”.

If you want to melee, even more in berserker’s, you need to pay attention to the enemies and their attacks. Learn when to dodge and use your skill the most efficiently. I’m not even sure about using PVT as a crutch while learning because the "defense"of berserker’s is also to kill them before they can kill you. By using PVT you are going to drag on the fight.

I took a break in January. A break I thought would last for way longer because I grew tired of Anet being Anet and my friends also started quitting.

But then one night I was bored and out of complete impulse I bought HoT. The mastery system and all the tiny changes that happened (which when you add them all up make big changes for me) made me want to quit right away. But since I paid so much money for this expansion I forced myself to play it.
And honestly it’s not something I regret. It’s fun.
But I do agree with pretty much your general complaints (except that I got lucky with bugs). However I have a lot of free time so I don’t mind too much the hour long meta events and if you can’t find a map, it’s really easy to get a meta event going (at least in VB and AB) : put a tag up, watch people flock to you, advertise in party search. So far, I’ve been lucky with that because it always works (of course, I don’t do it when there’s only 30 mins left and the map is in T1 still).

Sylvari: Anet was planning this since 2007

Anet has all the information and they can make us (or at least try to) believe whatever they want regarding their story choice.

However, so many things are missing to make it really believable. The whole “sylvari are dragon minions” has to make so many twists and turns to make it really understandable.

I don’t really doubt that it was their great plan 7 years ago, because when you plan a story you at least give the big ideas and flesh them out later on. But between then and now, they certainly got lost along the way. And I feel that it was a lot to do with Anet trying to please the community.

I can believe believe that “sylvari were always planned to be dragon minions”, but I still refuse to believe that Scarlet’s story and all of S1 weren’t rushed because of negative feedback and the updates pace.

But right now, I’m following GW2’s story the same way as I’m reading Bleach every week.

I’m deeply sorry but if you understand the rules of Bell Choir, it’s terribly easy to get near perfect scores, unless of course you have a health issue.

But, I know that a lot of players failing do not understand the rules. Because every year I completely fail once because those rules do not make completely sense for me and a lot of players.

Hit the note once they pass the white border of the blue circle. Not before, not during, but after they pass that border. You cannot hit the note too late (unless you completely miss it) but it’s really easy to hit it too late.

And if you’re still having a hard time : make sure your skill key are 123456789. Then place left hand finger on 1234 and right on 56789. After one or two songs you should really pick it up and be able to get near perfect scores each time.

Hell even using your mouse you should at least be able to get 1 note right every song.

New dailies, meet the zerg

RedStar.4218

I only took the time to do those kind of dailies during the first day, which was in Queensdale.

And it was interesting. It didn’t take me long because I knew the map and especially the events that didn’t trigger by themselves. At first I thought it was by now common knowledge, but luckily for me all those events were available for me when I searched for them.

When you know a map, it doesn’t take too long to find an event. When you don’t know a map it’s kind of annoying, especially for big maps like Iron Marches. Your first idea is to head to areas where Meta Events happen, unfortunately everyone else has that idea.

So if you don’t know a map, it can be an extremely annoying and time consuming experience. But if you do know, it shouldn’t take you that long because you know where triggered events happen and you have some sort of idea of where you can wait for a fast respawn event.

Plus the wiki has a nice list of events with sometimes neat information such as their respawn time. But yes, it’s more annoying than before.

It doesn’t exactly kill you. It simply fears you which forces you to run in a certain direction for less than 2 seconds.

As some other have said, if you want to resurrect your server, you need a lot of motivation.

WvW, at least in bronze league, is nothing but a moral game.

A map without a tag isn’t a happy map : players who do not see a tag automatically assume that the map is empty and leave 2 seconds after.
I remember a while back, I would tag up in mid-aftenoon EU. The first day we started with 3 and an hour later we were ten. Two days later, at the same time, we had 20 players running around.
But the second the tag leaves, so does a large chunk of players.

You need a core base of players, not necessarily a lot. Players that will tag up and won’t give up after getting wiped. Slowly, you’ll gather more and more players.

1. Change into zerker gear.
2. Ping zerker gear to placate your party’s concerns.
3. Change back into your original gear.

Enjoy!

The second you fail to dodge an attack the group will know you’re a liar. On the other hand, if you don’t fail to dodge attacks… then why not just use zerk?

How ? Because you survived the attack? Even a Berserker ele doesn’t get that easily one shot that you can be surprised if he doesn’t end instantly down the second he doesn’t dodge.
Especially when protection, aegis and weakness exist.

Someone not wearing full berserker’s can get away with it pretty easily. As long as he isn’t the only last player standing and his party members start noticing something isn’t “right”.

But the main thing that’s going to be noticeable is the behavior. Wanting to wear whatever is one thing, fighting a boss at 1200 (or 1500) while everyone else is at melee range is another.

If defenses run out how people can solo bosses when fights last at least 400% longer while they have at least 50% less defenses?

I think somewhere there’s some sort of misunderstanding. Combined with some sad truths, especially when some players can solo content faster than 5 players.

I’m not going to teach you anything, but to make my reasoning clearer :
Nomad gear (taking the extreme) will give your more toughness, vitality and healing power. Of those three attributes the only one that’s going to influence your skills is HP, which will mainly influence the amount of health you gain with regeneration and your healing skill.
The recharge of your skills or you endurance regeneration will not be affected.

Thus from time to time you might take a hit. With defensive gear that hit will hurt less than with berserker’s and your healing skill with heal a lot more. But because you do really less damage, you are also going to take more hits through out the fight and will need to focus for a longer time.

I guess I tried to shorten my reasoning too much and ended up writing something incorrect.

“soloing a dungeon in soldiers takes more skill“ – Are you serious ?
Have you ever soloed a dungeon, have you ever compared berserker to soldiers !? I don’t know what you see as skilled but being able to facetank more hits isn’t skill for me.

Honestly, this one is a candidate for the statement of the year!

It is actually easier to solo in berserker in many occasions. Those thugs that heal in CM? have fun dealing with that without the damage. Pretty much any encounter where quick take downs are preferred, full berserker is the easier option, the harpy destroyer in the grawl fractal is a good example of this.

Mossman is way easier in full zerker just for the sheer fact that you can kill the wolves in fewer hits.

And that is why berserker’s is preferred. You don’t want to drag on fights in GW2. You want to finish them as quickly as possible before your defensive skills and dodges completely run out.

The trade off between doing more damage or having more defense isn’t equal in PvE and dungeons.

Using full nomad gear with defensive traits and weapons won’t make the game easier. Monsters will have a harder time killing you and so will you. And as the fight drags on, you’ll slowly run out of dodges, the recharge of your defensive skills will make your survival harder and the odds of you dying will keep rising.
With full berserker’s and offensive traits, you can take a few defensive skills and kill your enemy before your defensive skills are all on recharge and you have no dodge left.

Defensive gear is a crutch until you can move to offensive gear.

Regarding traits, it depends on what you are trying to achieve.

But the whole discussion of “I want to play how I want” is terribly annoying. “I want to use my scepter tanking/healing guardian” is something I find extremely confusing. Why do you want to use a scepter ? “I like ranging”…there are better professions for that “I also want to be a tank” wrong game.
I understand players ranging because they don’t want to die. Maybe they are new, maybe they aren’t too good, maybe they aren’t comfortable with their class. But saying it’s something they want to keep doing is saying they do not want to improve.
And before someone says “it’s a game, not a test”, we are talking about group content. Not wanting to improve is basically saying “others will do the work”.

It reminds me of a group of players we used to play with. They would push monsters we pulled, range everything and barely do anything to help the group in the end. We tried to give them subtle hints (we aren’t dictators), but one day we had enough and decided to do the same thing.
After some “painful” 40 something minutes to complete AC p1, they were kittened because they didn’t understand why it took nearly 3 times longer than normal.
Another time one of them had the nerve to complain that we recently we were playing terribly and started blaming us for their death.

Something to keep in mind with GW2 : most dungeons in this game aren’t hard. You don’t need godlike reflexes. Or hundreds of hours of grinding. You simply need to it down for a minute and understand what’s happening.
But because GW2 barely has fail conditions and because a group of 3 really good players can easily make up for 2 terrible ones, a lot of players don’t bother learning anything.

And general PvE isn’t helping.

Siege Disablers Ruined the Game

in WvW

Posted by: RedStar.4218

RedStar.4218

When I say siege disabler benefit more the big server I mean the SERVER as a whole. Not just the local group passing by. Sure you can be in local inferiority, but that is so not important when you have all the backup in the world mere minutes away.

That’s the problem we are having. We aren’t really talking about the same thing. You are trying to assume a lot of things.
In the end, in your arguments, it’s population imbalance that shines. Not siege disablers being too helpful for “stronger” server.

And it completely matters how many players we are talking about. How many attackers are there versus defenders ? How many scouts does each side have ? How fortified are the towers/keep ?
Those things matters because it’s what makes siege disablers more interesting for the out-manned side.

Let’s do it with some examples.

Attack of a T3 tower with no siege (except oil and cannon) but supplies. Weaker has only 5 attackers and Stronger has 1 defender.
Before :
- At best weaker gets 2 superior rams up
- The lone defender has oil and cannon to destroy those while calling for help. Since he’s only facing 5 players, if he’s not dumb he can stay on oil or cannon long enough to do a lot of damage. So not only will he be able to take the rams down, his buddies will show up in great number anyway.

Now :
- A 45 second siege disabler won’t change the outcome

Let’s now look at 30 attackers from stronger against 1 lone defender from weaker.

Before :
- Oil and cannons are going to get destroyed rather quickly
- With at least 3 superior rams the gate is going to fall down rather quickly so back up won’t do much.
- By the time the defender manages to build a superior AC behind the gate, who cares. Unless they are dumb, the 30 players should manage to keep alive those on rams for the few seconds left.

Now :
- 45 seconds delay or 90 or even more gives the defender a lot of time to at least put 1 superior AC. If he’s lucky, at least 2-3 other players will show up. Good luck staying on rams with 2 or more superior AC raining hell on the gate.
If the commander trusts the defenders words enough, he won’t have to go on defense and can keep doing whatever he was doing on the same map or on another map.

Yes, the attackers can change strategy. But it’s not an advantage given to them because of siege disablers.

Siege disablers give time. Time to build siege, time for defenders to arrive. Stronger didn’t need that time before and still don’t really need it. Weaker however does need it.

You can poke a lot of holes to what I wrote. Because it completely relies on the assumption that stronger has always 30 man with scouts and weaker can barely get anyone to play.

But playing theory in WvW isn’t fun or too relevant so I’ll stop the argument here. We’re talking about things that completely rely on players behavior. And players aren’t machines. They get bored, they do dumb things, they complain, the focus, they can be really determined to their objective.

Siege Disablers Ruined the Game

in WvW

Posted by: RedStar.4218

RedStar.4218

No, it is beside the point unless you can convince anyone that the siege disabler is as good for the weaker server as it is for the strongest. Good luck with that.

As useful as it was for you, the same, and more, is true for the strongest force. This was a bad implementation. If this makes it harder for the strongest player to take your precious T3 structure, imagine what it does to weaker server.

Siege disablers has only one purpose: delay. If you are alone in your T3 tower on a server were you are 5 playing, you are only prolonging your agony. If you are alone in the same tower but you know you have tons of buddies away that only need time to come back, taking that T3 might be impossible even when there is only 1 guy inside. And placing one guy in every structure is something the bigger server can do but not the little one.

How low are we talking ? I mean I’m from higher bronze, not even silver.
And 5 players can hold off a zerg dumb enough to not think about siege disablers when they put 4 superior rams.

I understand the complaints from havoc groups who are trying to take objectives while everyone else is busy.

But if the weaker server main “zerg” is 10 players (assuming best case scenario, that’s 200 supplies, so 4 superior rams), siege disablers or not they would most likely get killed by the time they get to the lord if the stronger server is that strong to put scouts in every tower (and because it’s the strongest server, of course everything is going to be fortified).

Has the populations of lowest bronze US diminish that much ? Is there such a huge population divide in the same tier (not talking about number 7 facing 11 and 13). Or are we only talking about night cap time ?

And really, speaking from spending excessively a lot of time in WvW for the past month, I’m quite shocked about how little siege disablers are being used.
I’m abusing the kitten out of it (and sometimes my opponents are really smart), but it’s not as widespread on my server or my opponents.

So is this huge complaint about siege disablers just something some players are extremely vocal about ? Or am I playing in the only tier right now where this isn’t a rampaging problem ?

If I spent 4 hours to get a T3 keep with full supplies, I’m not going to let anyone take it in under 10 minutes because they decided to use 4+ superior rams.

That is utterly beside the point. Of course you will use all you have to protect what you build.

The point is, siege disablers do a lot more bad than good. It is yet another “solution” that benefit the stronger server more than it does the others. Any solution that benefit the stronger server is not a solution.

It’s not beside the point at all.

Only reason I can spam it is because I have supplies. And because the opponent is trying to take an objective with rams or tightly positioned catapults.

And it also benefits the weaker servers. It allows 3 defenders to build siege and push away 25+ attackers. Or gives more time for other defenders to come in.
But if the defenders have nothing to push away the attackers, siege disablers are simply going to drag on the inevitable.

The ability to spam them can be considered too good. But so is using 4 sup rams on a gate.

It forces strategic play, which is something that has gone down quite considerably in the past year from my observation (bronze tier and bottom silver). Unfortunately, some players aren’t willing to adapt and then complain about how siege disablers are a completely broken mechanic.

But at least this time, chest farming in SW isn’t prone to trolling behavior and doesn’t cause harm to the rest of the map. You could argue that it causes events to fail everywhere else, but from what I saw, the scaling is really nicely done and it isn’t out of reach to solo a defense event.

EotM is WvW, its under the WvW tab henceforth fact EotM is WvW.

You do the same things you do in the borderlands on EotM, just more emphasis on capturing rather than engaging the enemy zerg. Matter of fact people that play EotM are better than people who play on borderlands, they are more likely to capture something over a borderland commander who usually wipes trying to capture something simple like a tower.

EB would have been a better choice than BL to compare to EotM. And event, EotM is nothing more than a big champion farming train. Take out all the champions and you won’t have that much players in there.

The only reason a BL commander wipes is because other players are defending. In EotM it doesn’t take more than 1 superior AC to wipe a whole zerg. If I actually cared, I’d go in there with a few guildies and abuse siege disablers and sup AC.

But there’s no point. Players in EotM aren’t interested in WvW. Most of them completely hate it. There’s no reason to ruin their fun time in the hope that they’ll think “since EotM is so horrible now, I’m going to go play a game mode I completely hate”.
The only problem right now with EotM is that it’s more rewarding that WvW regarding WXP and badges (and everything else too).

The RNG in GW2 is worse. Yes GW1 had rare drops and sometime, even after 50-100 tries, you might not get what you want.

But 100 or 200 tries in GW2 is nothing.

The polar bear mini would like a word with you.

How nice, you chose the one single thing Anet completely kittened us up over with. Even going as far as saying that it didn’t exist (kind of like the opposite of what they did in GW2 with Final Rest).
Otherwise, be it a BDS, Frog Scepter, Voltaic Spear or anything else, it wasn’t a mere dream to hope to get them.

But let’s see in GW2 all the things that have stupidly low chances to drop :
-fractal weapons (but an 8+ month old bug affecting their drop rates have been fixed recently, so who knows…)
-fractal tonic
-dungeon recipes
-precursor
-chaos of lyssa recipe (but hey, they “fixed” the drop rate !)
-the first batch of Halloween weapons
-ascended chests from WvW
-the halloween minipet
-TA weapons

Of course, if you want to kid yourself into thinking that GW2’s RNG is perfectly fine and that it’s completely intended for someone to open 80k ToTs and not get a single wolf, feel free.

For a lot of other players, stacking cannot be done without LOS and a wall/corner (which only used to be useful with FGS).

AC isn’t the best dungeon for your case. Everything dies so quickly, why bother wasting time to find a wall or even skipping in some cases, like the last group before the final boss in P1 and P3…it’s way faster to just deal with them, than run all the way to the other side of the room.

And it’s time to stop blaming AI and start blaming the skills they are given. Smart AI isn’t “running around and ranging to make the dungeon more tedious because players will have to chase after me”. But since a lot of them barely have any interesting skills, it doesn’t matter how smart or dumb the AI is.

Regarding imbalance between full DPS and whatever else, what was there to expect in a game advertised as “fast combat, no healer, no tank” ? The idea in this game is “kill them before they kill you”, not “make the fight everlasting”.
In PvE, everything aside from full DPS should be considered as crutches : use them until you are comfortable enough to full DPS but don’t settle with being a tank or a healer.

These armors are a long term reward. You’re not supposed to be able to get them quickly.
Remember how long it took someone to finally get r15 hero rank with dragon emote in gw1? 4 years.

Is that supposed to be a good example ? “Remember, Anet did worse things regarding grinding”. Because in GW2 they upped themselves with some of the WvW achievements.

Do you find JP's (Jumping puzzle) rewarding ?

I got a few exotics out of them, so I’m not going to complain over that. They could be more rewarding, but players would complain about how unfair it is to have alts sitting there.

But like it was said, they should have spent a little more time with the loot tables and actually making harder JP more rewarding. But again, parking an alt there completely defeats this idea.

3 to 4 years of playing nearly every day to get a full set.

And by doing what ? By hunting AP through the terrible system Anet designed where the number of AP you get do not reflecting the difficulty or anything. Just some random number someone at ANet thought it would be fine.

If it wasn’t as stupid it would be something interesting (3 AP for getting all the weapon and armor skin from a dungeon versus opening 3 locked chests in dry top….) but right now it makes GWAMM seem pretty tame.

Even at release, not all the zones in the Open World were happening at the same moment. Story-wise, the lower level zones were happening earlier than the higher level ones.
And is you played through your PS at the same time as you explore the world, things were falling quite nicely in place (except now since they cut out a part, but let’s not go over there).

Then came the LS and things started getting confusing. The idea was “it’s stuck in time until LS hits the zone”.

Now regarding the Infinite Coil Reactor. Story-wise, first we did all the events leading to opening the dungeon, then did the story followed by explorable (we had to get out of it). So right now, that place should be completely empty. At the current GW2 time, there shouldn’t be any inquest left over there.

Better idea, Switch red and green’s colors on the EB map up.

Medium server would have a harder time in EB and High would be even better. With OL, Veloka and OW, High would have an easier time defending the towers from Medium. As for Anz and Veloka, since Low is going to be green, it would make them at tiny bit more easy to capture.
But if Low couldn’t even hold OL, there’s practically no way that they are going to manage to hold Lowlands.

I think that Anet’s idea with the red side was to help the “weakest” server. Not by making it easier to hold everything but by making so they can at least hold 3 things : their keep, Veloka and OW.

With Mendon and Anz facing the “strongest” server, those towers would fall anyway.

However, I’m pretty sure that by now, we have all realized how flawed that is. If the strongest server manages to cap OL, the weakest is doomed until green gets bored of holding it.

But to come back to Mendon : it’s a terrible tower. Even if the yak was faster, it’s so easy to destroy the siege weapons in it thanks to the bridge, the stairs and the little hill.

WvW players is mean?

I do get annoyed if 5 downed enemies get rallied because someone else died.
But if it’s an up-level character (or anyone else), I’m not going to tell them to get out of WvW. You have to learn someday, whether because it’s your first character or because you are playing a new class.

Generally players get annoyed by up-levels when the server isn’t doing too good. They want other players to play at their best potential. But being an kitten about it won’t help and in the worst case, it will simply drive away other players from WvW.

To those who think that this change is a good idea because it will :
- split zergs
- create more scouts

The game is more than 2 years old, during all this time, most players who really enjoyed scouting/upgrading are gone.
A zergling won’t suddenly think “hey I’m going to help my server by standing in a tower for hours hoping to see someone”.

Had WvW started with no-white-swords, it wouldn’t be that bad. But now, the gameplay and updates of WvW have slowly taken out scouts and brought more zerglings looking for a tag to stick to, instead of doing something with no reward that may or may not help at all (if you sit in Aldon for 5 hours and no one comes near, you were basically useless).

Ugly without wings. Sad that the only success u guys have is by porting content from your previous game…u have to admit that. Shows the level of design we get in the newer version of the game lol.

Even so…u missed the wings it looks ugly as hell without them. Will talk after the skin gets it’s wings back.

Them putting skins from GW1 has been asked time and time again, even before the game was released or even in Beta.

It’s not so much about the level of design in GW2, but the level of design in GW1.
