More like, Zhaitan ignored the races of Tyria, and suffered defeat because of it.

Mordremoth, obviously to avoid the fatal mistake made by the last active dragon, tries to nip the threat in the bud…

Who knows, the dragons might be linked to each other telepatically or use their minions to relay information to other dragons. More possibilities.

Then again, it’s possible that the Pale Tree planned to use dragons attack as to convince the other races as you said…

The dragons thought of us as regular black ants. Turns out that they were mistaken and that we are actually bullet ants.

As far as I know, humankind is plotting something to kill the bullet ants leaders (but it wouldn’t surprise me if they are holding summits against us :p).

Of course, the “we are ants to them” was something told to us way back and in an interview (!). Considering the story, it seems that this isn’t the case anymore and that EDs are just your plain old evil mastermind with “kill everything” goal and unlimited power who we manage to defeat because they keep underestimating us and “love and companionship triumphs over pure evil”.

Arah is the nearest thing to that level of dungeon (which is being generous since FoW and the Underworld were substantially harder).

Eh…what timespan are we talking about here? Back when Ursanway and SFway were going strong having 500+ ectos was within reach of anyone who actively played the game. Getting Obsidian armor wasn’t that difficult, and UW nor FoW were difficult – just time consuming.

UW and FoW were difficult. But they were really unforgiving. One fail and that’s it you have to start over.
Which means that it takes a long while to get trained.

Unlike in GW2 where every fail is simply a WP away to start over.

I’ll disagree with 99% of the people here: ascended armors don’t look ugly because they were poorly designed, but because people have extremely poor choices of dyes. Here is what ascended armors really look like:

I hate that thing dangling between the legs, the turtleneck, and the back of the pants which gives your character a huge behind.

Then the way the pants are high rise give you character extremely long legs (which in itself isn’t bad) and unfortunately at the same time your character ends up with a smaller torso.

Of course a lot of the time, people have horrible dye choices (which isn’t the case here) but it’s still something I won’t put on my norn warrior or male sylvari guardian (because male come with an added “fat warrior with long legs”).

How did Orr sink? It was a spell, yes, but what did the spell actually DO? Islands don’t float, so it’s not that easy to “sink” one. What if the spell kind of pushed down and shortened Orr so it was below the water, much like a mesmer can make a huge enemy into a normal sized moa?

It’s been more than a few years since I stopped taking geology courses and I’m not sure that I can even try to explain how a continent could “sink” in english.

Basically this http://fr.wikipedia.org/wiki/Faille#mediaviewer/Fichier:Fault2.gif

Someone with more knowledge on geology will be able to explain it.

What I always found weird is that if Zhaitan was under orr, it must mean than in less than 10 000 years he got covered by a really thick and important layer of sand. And then the gods built their city like really right on top of it.

To all those that are wondering why the sylvari rushed to the Avatar after it got hurt, have you considered that perhaps the sylvari can diagnose what is wrong with the entirety of the Pale Tree just by examining the Avatar?

If you go to a doctor with, say, a stomach ache, do you expect the doctor to cut you open to see what is causing the problem? Obviously not! He would diagnose you externally first to see what the root cause of the problem might be before he decides to cut you open.

I believe this to be the same case here.

Because it’s pretty obvious that the leaves and branches were hit by the attack ?

For example you buy the Medium T1 helm. If you buy the Light T1 helm it won’t add a point towards the title.

The Pale Tree is not a violent entity. She needs to be guarded physically. “If our deeds are reflected in the Dream”, and the Sylvari are minions Shielded of Mordy’s corruptions, could it be possible Mordy can tap into the Dream as well? Thus, know of our powers, drive and existence? If Mordy takes us and the world leaders out in one swoop, who is left to protect the tree?

And that’s why I cannot get with the idea that this attack was planned. It’s a kittening ED and he can’t even kill a dozen of people with a surprise attack ?
On the other side of Tyria he sends hundreds of vines, kills dozens of people, but to attack a summit he only sends 8 mordrem and a champion ?

I can get behind us surviving the attack because it wasn’t really planned. The champion came because it was a highly magical place and left because we really put up a fight. But surviving because the ED is too dumb to take us seriously ?
If he is that intelligent and cunning and actually gives a kitten about us, he should know better.

at least it is not your common a hero guy went to slay bad dragon and became a king or something, the end

while i admit there IS certain bias showing in the writing, it is more refreshing than majority of other mmorpg stories that are “if you saw one you saw them all”

besides what’s wrong with sylvari? they are new race, tehy are on rise, ofc there will be a lot stuff going on about them… i am pretty sure we will have enough to do with humans norns and charr once story moves to jormag karkatorrik and co.

Everything about humans were reduced because “it wasn’t fair to have a human-centric lore”. Which totally was because they were the only race (out of the 5 we have) who was everywhere we are currently playing. Charr were restrained to a part of Ascalon and the north (which isn’t shown in GW2), Asura lived underground and weren’t mentioned before EotN, just like Norns. And

But instead of creating lore for every race to bring them on par with human, Anet decided that nope, they’d rather have shallow lore than something really deep and connected and certainly not race-centric.

And now, for 2 years, Sylvari have always played a major impact on the world. If it wasn’t for them, the Pact wouldn’t have formed, Orr wouldn’t be cleansed, Zhaitan would still be alive. One of them was the greatest genius of all time. And that tree is obviously tied somewhere with ED.

Play through a zone without following hearts/poi/vista/WP. Just randomly moving around, following NPC, following a little trail and the game will become more interesting.

Some zones are full of places most players have never ventured into. A lot of time, with nothing really special in there aside from “huh I never knew that there was a hole in that wall that lead here”.

But some Vistas are terrible. Some do show you the way to a JP, but a lot show you nothing too special.

If you are hoping to get rewarded for exploring, give up now. But if you really want to explore, buy a lot of experimental rifles because it helps you reach so many new places.

But you said it yourself that you wouldn’t be happier with arah p4. So certain dungeons are out too.

You want an equivalent, but there’s not a WvW or PvP equivalent to doing a fractal (which once more isn’t even a big deal to start with). It’s sort of like the new armor exclusive to PvP tournaments : there’s no PvE equivalent to a PvP tournament.

RedStar.4218

Maybe, but so what difference does that make? They are a part of PvE that is way too time consuming and unrewarding. If you enjoy Fractals, great, nobody is trying to take anything away from you, but if you don’t enjoy Fractals then you shouldn’t have to do them. That’s one of the great thing about 99% of this game, that you can do whatever you enjoy and still be rewarded for it. It’s the 1% where they shoehorn you into Fractals that are the problem.

Would you have been happier if you were asked to complete arah p4 5 times ?

Probably not. I haven’t done Arah explorable but that doesn’t seem like my cup of tea either. I’ve done some other dungeons that weren’t so bad. I think the important thing is options, forcing the player to do any one thing is a bit much, there should be multiple paths.

And it would seem that you don’t like specific dungeons.

Here’s the thing about multiple paths to the same thing : they have to be somewhat equal, else one of them is never going to be used.
And that’s why we got the Mystic forge and RNG nearly wherever you look at. And now the one time Anet makes everyone play different aspect of PvE, some people are saying “nope, we don’t want to play. We prefer to grind away 1k badges (which we already got thanks to the huge karma farm EotM is)”.

I’m going to get around to clearing this one, and like I said, I really don’t think it’s likely they’ll actually change anything about this requirement since they’re too lazy to fix things they already consider “done,” I just want to raise awareness so that they don’t add MORE requirements like this in future content. I don’t want to see any NEW achievements or rewards based on running fractals until such time as they make them faster to run. I don’t want, three to six months down the road, to see another LW update or reward drop that requires going into the Fractals to complete it. It’s too late for this patch, but it’s not too late for the patches yet to come.

So you don’t want something that makes you play a different aspect of the game. You’d rather get mindless grinding. Because 5 pristine relics isn’t grinding.

And really, unlike WvW which is somewhere between PvE and PvP (but leaning way more on the PvP side), fractals are part of PvE.

Would you have been happier if you were asked to complete arah p4 5 times ?

It’s been bugging me for a while now that while almost all of the gw1 outposts have been scaled to fit exactly where they should be in gw2 (see an overlay map: http://zoom.it/Zf9p), The Grove is quite a ways south from where it should be at Ventari’s Sanctuary. Is it possible then that the Pale Tree is a generation or two removed from Ronan’s original seed, planted in a new sanctuary slightly to the south? I know kinda goes against everything originally established about Ronan and Ventari, but generally speaking true trees don’t get up and walk away, even in Tyria.

The location is probably a design choice. There would be a bit of coast left untouched if the center of the tree was where it was in GW1.

The problem isn’t that it’s too hard, or too hard to find a group to do them. The problem is that it’s TOO ANNOYING, Fractals take too long to run start to finish and if they do implode part way through then all that effort is wasted. So long as this is the case I resent any attempt on ANet’s part of shoehorn me into them.

You just don’t want to do it because you don’t want to do it, that’s it.

It kittening level 1. You aren’t force to do level 50 or even 20. It’s level 1. It can easily take you less than one hour to complete a run.

I’ve had my fair share of fractal runs, the only time I’ve seen a party implode is when we encountered a bug.

You don’t even want to try to do it. You just want to sit on the forum and try to force Anet to give you another “grindier” option (which no one gives a kitten about because it’s so easy to crumble under badges of honor).

And an awfully bad job at it. If you want to take out the Pale Tree, you don’t focus your attack on the one room where everyone is. You keep focusing on the roots which must be incredibly hard to miss considering how enormous the Pale Tree is.

Actually I asked why we hadn’t tried negotiating with the Elder Dragons not long after release. I guess I’m a pacifist at heart, even when playing combat- orientated games and it bothered me that no one seemed to have tried, we jumped straight to ‘lets kill it!’

But the general consensus on the forum was that although they probably could understand us they wouldn’t care or have any inclination to listen. There is nothing we could offer them that they can’t take for themselves as and when they want it.

I can’t help wondering though, now that we’ve killed one of them shouldn’t that count for something?

Eons ago, we got told that the ED were like forces of nature. You don’t negotiate with a hurricane.
That’s something I like and it helped make sense. They are those forces of nature that don’t care about us. They will end up destroying us sooner or later, but when it happens it’s going to be an “accident” and not some carefully thought out plan. And why the hell should they have a carefully thought out plan when they can so easily kill and corrupt everything around them.

And then came GW2. With Zhaitan using its minions to infiltrate our ranks and try to kill the leader. Planning a surprise attack on LA. Being able to wipe us anytime he wished, but instead underestimated us and got caught by surprise.

And now we’ll have to see where they are headed with Mordremoth. He wasn’t awake until 2 years after Zhaitan’s death. If he’s attacking the forts because he wants to disrupt us, how does he know who killed his kin ? It could have been kraits, it could have been largos, tengu or an unknown race (quaggan is a bit far stretched).
I hope they aren’t going to go down the road of “evil mastermind”.

You cannont expect people to be satisfied with the horrible heavy ascended armor, and at the same time release a really beautiful heavy set obtainable only via the external PVP tournaments.

And how would you obtain that special and meaningful set ?
Complete every dungeon ?
Waste huge amount of cash ?

And ascended armor have been in the game for more than 8 months. During that time PvP didn’t get anything at all. Who knows, maybe Anet will release something for PvE.

-World bosses
-Crafting
-Jumping Puzzles
-Dungeons
-Fractals
-Dungeons and fractals
-Everything PvE related
-Everything where you can get killed by another player

So every time Anet “makes” them play something they hate in order to get an exclusive reward, they are going to come to the forum and complain.

Welcome to PvE in GW2. To get something you either need time, cash or luck.
Skill ? If all you needed was skill, people would kitten about how not unique they are when hundreds of others manage to get “their” item.

The people who join the TOURNAMENT will able to obtain these armour set without having to grind for it via PVP.

On other hand, to those who didn’t join the TOURNAMENT will have to get them via the PVP track.

geez, i must salute you for your selective reading skill.

I know right ?

There will be two sets of armor that will be released exclusively to PvP: the Glorious armor and Glorious Hero’s armor.

The Glorious Hero’s set is a top-tier reward for certain competitive tournaments like the Guild Wars 2 International All-Star Tournament at gamescom.
the Glorious Hero’s set will be available as a prize in similar tournaments in the future.

The Glorious Armor set is something we wanted all players to be able to earn. As such, all players have the opportunity to obtain the Glorious armor set from a repeatable Glorious Armor Reward Track that will arrive with the feature pack.

A fake avatar doesn’t have wounds. Just as there is no point in having an avatar on the ground. If the Pale Tree can’t even talk, how can she still have the strength to summon an avatar only to have it face down on the ground ?

For more than a year we had to deal with a totally made up villain that had absolutely no foreshadowing (Scarlet) will we wanted to deal with the dragons threat.

Now we are dealing with an all new dragon. I guess it’s better than nothing.

And the inquests are even more annoying than the risen. They are everywhere, all the time.

What did you do with the rewards?

I’m pretty sure you can still make the first one.

And I think you can get the same rewards if you redo the missions on an alt. Which means that you could throw them for now and get them back when you are ready to craft.
Or I think (a lot of I think because I don’t care too much for it right now) you can buy the components with laurels.

I see nothing wrong with them rushing to mend the Avatar. Think of it like a voodoo doll of the Pale Tree. What you do to it is reflected upon the tree itself. There’s a LOT of damage to repair, but for the quick and dirty work to stop the bleeding (sap loss?), you throw all the healing you can onto the Avatar and let it carry over through the link.

Because the Pale Tree itself has stated that this avatar is useless. She can do without it and only puts it up to not scare people.

It’s like a light bulb. She turns it on so others aren’t scared. But if something happens, you don’t go rubbing your light bulb (do you ?).

This reminds me of TNTM on guru. Such good times.

Unfortunately, since my computer isn’t too good (sooon) I won’t submit anything. But good luck.

How the hell can you despise low level fractals ? They’re short, not too long and don’t require particular tactics.

This is game where Anet, after GW1, realized that a chunk of players playing MMOs didn’t like playing with others and thus created content for a maximum of 5 players (aside from Teq and Wurm). That’s not a lot.

Every day, every hour, there are a ton of groups doing low level fractals. Are you afraid that you are going to bring down the party ? You are pugging, so it’s totally random who you are going to end up with. Some will be nice, some won’t. Some will be extremely good, some will be extremely bad. This is a game.
You are bound to end up joining kittens and moments later extremely good and friendly players.

And to some players in this thread. If you play so much other stuff, surely you have gathered at least 4 other online friends. Can’t you ask them to do a fractal run ?
Aren’t you in a friendly guild ? If you aren’t there are hundreds out there that will gladly welcome you (if you aren’t an arrogant brat) and help you get your 5 pristine relics.

You know that this and all criticism threads are actually pointless. Anet will carry on doing what it does regardless. We don’t matter anymore, as long as we keep spending money on gems. Which I won’t be doing anymore.

We have been asking again and again for Anet to stop using the gemstore as a mean to “give” us new items and instead make us play their game.
This item makes you play a lot of the game’s different aspects.

Yet you complain that Anet doesn’t listen and wants to force us to use the gemstore…
