How many exotics do you find in a week?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

RedStar.4218

Saturday and Sunday I play through most dungeons and at least 1 fractal 20-30. And maybe 3 cumulated hours in WvW.
The rest of the week, I barely play and when I do it’s to do a daily fractal 10-20 or 20-30.
And I barely do any meta event per month.

I have around 1 exo/hour (or more, I’ve gotten a dozen in a night, and I don’t pull all-nighters). I don’t bother paying attention to where that exotic came from (dungeon chest, drops or champ bag. Although I know that “drops” are my lowest source).

And each and every time I get one, I get sad and a quaggan dies. Because that’s my luck. Some people rarely get exotics and when they do it’s a precursor.
I’ve gotten so many Truth that sometime I’ve had to check my TP history to see if it was a new one or one I forgot to sell.

Thing is, aside from engineers, every other classes have better damage with melee weapons. And when it comes to ranged weapons, some have considerably worse damages than other professions.

Honestly, if you make me put a kittening scepter on my guardian as the only possible alternative, I’m going to burst.
I’ve become so kittened off at people ranging the dredge carrier during SE p3 that I prefer to take my engineer for this one.

You can melee and still need to move around. For example HotW p1 boss.

I do agree that most bosses should do more than be a big punching bag, but nothing will force people to say that during a particular event, “range will always be better than melee so matter how good you are.”
If a boss were to teleport, in order for range to be better, he’d have to move only as far as 1200 (knowing that Thieves can’t get past 900). 1200 isn’t a lot to run, especially if you have leaps/charge/swiftness/teleports.
A boss with deadly melee attacks but will only use ranged attacks if you range him ? … kind of the most obvious anti-melee mechanic. Which players will get around eventually.

If you want to use a bow, use a bow. But stand in melee range.
If your only goal is to deal the best amount of damage then choose the correct class/weapon combination.

If everyone bunches up (I can’t help but associate “stacking” with “get in that corner”), they get to share boons, combo fields and rally in case someone gets downed.
It took us 1 dungeon to figure this out.

Even when I used a scepter on my necro, I’d stand right next to the warrior and guardian. So did the mesmers. Because once again, being surrounded has its advantages with the only downside being cleaving attacks.
Even when fighting Frost (cm p1) it’s better for everyone to be at melee range and turn around him, instead of being spread out and having the aggro changed without a warning.

As for people claiming that being at 1500 range is still being in danger. If you are at 1500 range from the boss, there’s a reason : he isn’t targeting you (or he can’t reach you). A lot of bosses don’t even have attacks that can reach at 1500.

One of the things I hate the most with PuGs isn’t that they aren’t using optimal builds (or that they have no kittening idea how to play the build they got on youtube), but that they are afraid of danger. They’d rather range than learn.

kimeekat, you forgot that from Scarlet’s Short Story, we are told she was greeted by Mender Serimon right as she was born.

So it cannot be your first idea.

But I’m extremely eager to see the plot reasons for such a tweak. I have a feeling it’s going to be funny.

Unfortunately, according to a short story, Ceara was greeted by Mender Serimon right as her birth.

So she was born from the pale tree and she wasn’t the first secondborn.

Anyway Bobby pretty much insinuated that the “seconborns were born 6-7 years after the firstborns” is now false.

I thought Cadeyrn was the first secondborn. That is part of his whole angsty nature, and what causes Caithe to tell him “You are either firstborn…or you are simply sylvari”, as he thought being the first secondborn made him special.

Although none of that is presented in game so take it with a grain of salt I guess….

Edit:
After looking around a bit the wiki is all messed up now. There are direct references to Scarlet as the first secondborn but all of Cadeyrns pages still call him the first secondborn. The dates for all of the remaining secondborn still mention the 6-7 years after the firstborn which we now know is not true.
It is as if someone who doesn’t realize all of the connections just updated scarlets info and left the rest…

Well we are now completely lost regarding the Sylvari timeline. As far as I know, them being born in 1302 is from the novel. So maybe that’s also wrong.

The only thing that has been made perfectly clear in the game is who are the firstborns and that Ceara was born in 1304. That’s it.
We have no proofs in game when the secondborns were born. Do we even have something regarding Cadeyrn being the first secondborn ?

If this was another race, maybe such a change would be important. But Sylvari are already born adults. You don’t need to add years to make them more mature.

And whoever is in charge of the wiki article on the timeline, Ceara isn’t the first secondborn. She was welcomed by Serimon, so Serimon must have been born before her.
Of course, as that story isn’t in the game, maybe that’s also false.
So to be on the safe side, remove the mention “first secondborn”.

Once again, we are talking about a 4 year difference. Not someone being brought back from the dead or Faolain becoming a man or Jennah suddenly becoming a terrible mesmer.
This is a 4 year difference that can only be seen on a plaque in a spot few people bother to go to. Oh and that has been printed on shirts.

In HP he game is based on the books. So the higherarchy is still established.

Same with StarWars. ‘L canon’ superceeds the games and the books and the comics and the movies.

And in GW2, the lore is based on…the game ? Weird, GW1 and the interviews were there before GW2 was released.

And again, in HP or SW, the people who worked on the book/movies aren’t the same who worked on the games and animes and other things.
In GW2, those who work on the lore are the same persons who did the interviews and released the short stories and not the same who worked on GW1.

So saying GW1 lore is susceptible is change, while annoying, is more or less accepted. Saying the GW2 lore team don’t know their kitten during interviews isn’t.

It’s proof that his missing the point. Why bother outright telling us “don’t believe our interviews” when everything was fine if she had been born in 1308.

This isn’t a change in order to tell a greater story. This isn’t a change to make things consistent.
It’s a change because ? Well aside from not keeping tabs on dates, I can’t figure out how making Secondborns 6 years younger is any important.

Of course it’s still logical. After saying Ree and any other out of game sources can’t be trusted.

Is there some greater plan for her being born 4 years earlier ? For Cadeyrn to be born barely a year later than Caithe ?

Anyway, what’s really the point of the lore forum anyway ? There’s no point in discussing lore events (not story, lore) since everything can be altered to fit whatever mess up they do in the future.

Hey ! You got why I practically gave up on GW lore during BWE1

And you’re going to get even more why Konig is kittened. Because as you said, nearly everything in game was based on whether or not the teller was knowing the real truth, which made everything he said retcon-able.
But interviews were deemed absolute truth.

Except now, they aren’t. So in-game is prone to change, out of game is prone to change. Such a great day for lore theories !

“They” is Anet.

but that is interview lore and therefore lower then game lore.

I think we might having a confusion. I was simply saying that Anet loves pulling the card of “he didn’t know the real truth. He thought he did, but he didn’t”.
So in the case of the Infinity Ball, the Mysterious Stranger thinks he invented Steam Creatures. But he didn’t really. Scarlet did it before him (if you have any questions on whether or not it makes sense, I’m not your guy).

This is about far more than Scarlet’s age. It is about the lore of the Sylvari race, and all lore connected to it. It’s about us being able to use out-of-game sources as sources for lore. We should be able to rely on lore info that was released directly by Anet in lore articles. Why even contradict it?

Until I see a real reason why it was so important for her to be born in 1304 and not 1308, I will believe it’s because they don’t give a kitten and had already printed the T-shirts when they stumbled across this thread.

Faction changes confirmed!

Of course so obvious ! Taimi is an inquest progeny ! That’s why she loves Scarlet that much ! Everything about Scarlet reminds her of the inquest.

How can ingame lore be supreme when in-game lore contradicts itself? Look at the steam creatures. The asura personal story states that the steam creature technology wasn’t invented yet in 1325 AE but the hologram clearly says so, which is right?

Allow me : Whoever in the personal story stated that didn’t know the real truth. He thought it was true but in fact it wasn’t. (it’s the excuse they used for nearly every time the game contradicted something).

Well according to GW2, GW1 is not prime source for lore. But it’s prime source for retconned.

But really, the bigger question is : why change it ? Why does her age mattered so much that it had to go against an interview ?
For a T-shirt. Oh wait, that’s not in the game. Pretty soon it wouldn’t surprise me if we got told that this T-shirt was wrong.

I will try to explain why Konig and so many others are baffled by this.

I was going to write a long story, but I’ll cut it really short.

In case people have forgotten, a year ago one of the major complaints was that Anet didn’t give the lore in-game, but out of the game through interviews, blog posts and short stories.
Today we get told “don’t believe any of that kitten”.

Unlike your examples, the book, game, interviews are supposed to be done by the same team. At more or less the same time.
So if the game is priority, why the hell waste everyone’s time with interviews and short stories and books ?
What’s next Abaddon making a come back ?

I think everyone needs to have a coke and smile, and take a few deep breaths. the entirety of GW lore is not changing. just Scarlet’s age.

I know a lot on GW1’s lore, but after a few “nope wasn’t the absolute truth” I got tired and gave up on following the lore of GW2 and trying to find out what was true and what wasn’t.

Of course I won’t quit this game. I stopped playing this game for lore during BWE1. Since then, I simply follow the on-going story. During S1 from really far away, but I’m giving it a chance for S2.
But seeing that we’re supposed to be suspicious of a mesmer saying “I know she’s lying”, I don’t know how long until I simply click everywhere to get my reward.

Thanks for all the effort. I know this only benefits a small section of people, but any GW1 lore that could be folded into the story in a sensible way would be greatly appreciated by me and probably many others that played the first game.

I’d rather it get folded and thrown into a trash can then going retcons upon retcons.

On a lighter note, S2 seems nice. But since we can’t trust anything out of the game, and anything in the game is prone to “first person analysis, it wasn’t the truth”, I guess there’s no point in giving a kitten about the lore behind everything.

Edit : But hey, since nothing is set in stone : If Scarlet was born in 1304 and the firstborns were born in 1302, and right as she stepped out of the dream she saw Mender Serimon, when was Cadeyrn, the first secondborn, born ?

But it is interfering still. The six are a pathetic bunch. It’s like bringing a child into the world, what you have always cared for, but then suddenly you go away and tell it: “grow on your own”. In the same time you send still signs of your existence and caring onto this child and thus sparking the false hope in it that you might return. That is psychological torment. If I’d life in Tyria I would either be very angry at those gods (when being human) or try to study them so I can find them and teach them what happens, when you abandon the people you have set yourself out to care about.

What proof, since the exodus, do you have of the gods helping around ? Nothing. They didn’t intervene during the Scarab Plague or during the Charr invasion, they didn’t help with the jade wind. They didn’t even help with Abaddon.

Since the Exodus they never showed signs of “caring”.

Erm… Abbadon, one of the six did meddle with human affairs all the time.He first interfered by giving humans magic… and then interfered again by wanting to make humans suffer beyond measure. And the latter happened for sure in GW1 time… from prophecies to nightfall it was all about fighting Abbadon and his pawns.

Seeing this context it is a farce that the gods did not protect the humans in the first place from the corruption of Abbadon’s influence. I still believe those gods to be a self righteous and coward example of just another magical race, that fears the dragons and therefor left. They couldn’t say that, because it would make them look weak, but I think that is pretty much what happened.

Before the Exodus, the gods did whatever they wanted. After it, they stopped meddling and transforming people into trees.

And Abaddon trying to break free isn’t really interfering in human affairs. It’s more him doing whatever he can to free himself, instead of punishing people for their bad deeds.

The gods have grown even more silent since GW1, but then again, two of them sending their avatars to play games or make us do chores isn’t really being active.

Is it just me, or does look more like a magnetic field? Going by the notions that we are talking about some kind of energy source and have a “north” and a “south” polarity there, then this drawing would depict the attraction of these forces similiar to magnetic or other energy flows + to -

The 6 circles
Right now the number 6 has a certain meaning for the people of Tyria. 6 Gods, 6 Eldar Dragons (even though not known to all, though the inquests are on their track, predicting Mrodremoth, before he even awoke. maybe we should really raid them for information).

Haven’t people been theorizing on a seventh elder dragon ? (I stopped paying attention to that discussion a long time ago).

But you aren’t the only who thinks it looks like a magnetic field. And I sure as hell don’t see a tree anywhere in that picture, even after looking at it over and over again I have no idea how Marjory immediately thought “oh wow ! Those circles must be the Pale Tree !”

Yeah, you’re just forgetting that they don’t need to add one, but one for each weapon type. Figure out the best concept art for each one of them, arguing over and over again about what the player base would like the most.

Other than that, killing your threat is better for your survivability than dragging on a fight. Especially considering how few “healing” skills are available for certain professions.
