You don’t even get an exotic. You get a skin that could be bought on the TP for a few silvers to a few gold depending on the reward track.

mounts are for little girls

So are pokemon. Still like them as well. At least he first 250

Pokemon aren’t only for little girls. And in a game where part of the plot and some pokemon revolves around death, stealing, torture, world domination and hauntings, I’m not sure if Nintendo is really aiming the game at little kids.

Most of the skins coming out of old ranked chests are skins that you can find in PvE as common white/blue/green/yellow drops. They are still available in PvP through the loot boxes from the reward chests. Just make sure you unlock the skins first before selling to merchant if you’re not salvaging them.

You could get all 3 order armor sets with only 1 character, a lot of crafting sets without needing to craft them and dungeon sets without doing the dungeons.
And let’s not forget certain armor sets that are really rare in PvE or the Tribal set.

Definitely haven’t forgotten. It’s not that big of a deal to me, though I know it bugs some people that there is already a lot of clipping in the game. Some mounts would definitely be more suited to a palanquin style of riding rather than astride their back like you would ride a horse. Dolyak Riders for example, don’t sit astride a saddle, and wouldn’t have problems with skirts clipping.

Rift had its share of skirts and robes, and I don’t remember a great hue and cry about how terrible they looked on mounts. I also don’t, however, remember how they dealt with the issue visually, either.

It doesn’t matter if it’s not a big deal for you or for me. It’s sloppy design to release something that clips. Especially when it’s going to clip so badly.
Dolyak riders don’t have clipping problems because their armor doesn’t flow around.

And Rift didn’t have skirts that could carry an asuran family on it. They didn’t have any problems because from the looks of it, their designers aren’t fond of huge skirts.

Log in and creating the fattest norn in the bulkiest clothes to prove my point. Or the fattest Charr for some added weirdness. Their feet (or paws) will be on the ground. Except maybe if they sit on its head…

Make them drop from world bosses, dungeon end chest, and from doing quest. That adds a reason toplay the game for those who want to be rewarded for their efforts.

And people who want mounts. Which doesn’t seem to be everyone.

Can you imagine how epic a Norn could look ingame on a Riverdrake Broodmother? Or a Treant?

Like a grown adult sitting on a gecko ? And imagine an Asura on a Treant ?
Will they scale it down depending on race (like weapons) and face the cries of players unsatisfied that their mount is tiny when compared to a Norn ?

And don’t forget the clipping or how they will try to get around it. Like a Female norn wearing the masquerade skirt sitting on a treant. Where’s the skirt going to go ? And the treant’s body ?

They didn’t create their game with the idea of adding real mounts one day (the riding broom doesn’t count because it’s a stick…a small and slim stick your character sits on).

So, play PvP in order to unlock fractal content you don’t know how to do?

You can already get the dungeon rewards. And the second Anet decided fractal weapons would be completely random drops, they completely threw out any skill being involved with getting them.
Getting to level 11 is only hard if you don’t know how to play. The rest is purely based on luck.

And luck in this game is a kitten. If you are lucky in this game, you will keep being lucky. If you aren’t, then have fun grinding level 50 over and over again for something someone got on level 11 on the first try.

They are slacking…It’s pretty obvious : if most of them aren’t doing their maximal damage then of course it’s going to be slower.

With an optimized group of the same size what we would get is how fast it can be done. But we don’t need that to identify that players are slacking during Mark II : they are hitting from a far away safe spot. For some classes, it doesn’t mean a big loss of DPS, for others (the extreme case being a staff necro) it means slacking because they lack the will to learn an easy encounter.

Oh and we also managed to get 10 guildies there. It also took us around 2 minutes.

It doesn’t. It just shows that the scaling works badly. Get the same player you think is not contributing, put them with golem in 1v1 situation, and they will likely kill that boss in 2 mins with no trouble. And the same group of people that needs 10 mins to kill the golem, will kill fire ele in 30 seconds (when FE takes as much if not longer than golem if you try to solo it).

You do realize that what you are implying isn’t making any sense ? Because what this means is basically that both players are doing the same amount of damage. When they aren’t.

You know how during Teqs burn phase, some groups can do enough damage to trigger the next one, while some groups struggle to even do more than 10% ? It’s similar : in the first case, everyone is bringing all they got. In the second case, the majority are holding the whole map back.

That’s not meleeing. That’s scaling. It can be ranged to death in 2 minutes if you are alone, but a group of ~40-50 people will be meleeing it for 8-10. If the scaling wasn’t capped somehow, than the whole 120+ players zerg would likely have been unable to dps it in time regardless of the strategy used.

Of course it’s scaling. And it’s showing that a lot of players are barely contributing.
You don’t need hard math to figure it out : if 3/4 are hitting with what is probably their weakest attack and hitting only 1 hit box, of course the boss will live longer.
And they don’t want to learn how to move out of a lightning field that has an easy to see tell.

Today was the first day I did any meta even since the mega servers came in. And it made me kind of sad seeing how bad the general player base is.

Especially during Mark II. More than 3/4 of players were ranging. Making something I could solo go from 2 minutes to 6+ minutes.
Players aren’t learning to play the game, because why should they ? They can go around, barely pay attention, barely fighting and get the same rewards as everybody else.
Then comes whichever new content (when it gets released) and those players will kitten that it’s too hard, while a vocal minority kitten that the playerbase is bad.

Reward tracks?

RedStar.4218

You get :
In hotjoin
-500 per win
-200 per loss
In SoloQ
-1000 per win
-300 per loss

And you need 1000 points per tier.

You have 3 types of reward tracks :
-Balthazar which awards you with a unique backpack
-The dungeon tracks which can be forever unlocked by completing the story mode of said dungeon. You can get 3 weapons of your choice and the final reward is an armor piece.
-The region tracks. The end reward is a “unique” skin and you get ascended materials along the way. To unlock them you need to complete the one before, starting with Kryta.

You can switch reward tracks whenever you want and you won’t lose any progress.

ME: yea thats why you put the mega server cause there is just sooooo many ppl

Since the game launched players have been asking for “underflow” servers. Some zones have been dead since the beta like Snowden Drift and then at release with Timberline Falls.
It’s not because there’s no one playing, it’s because there’s not a lot to do in those zones.

If something was done to concentrate players for those zones, might as well expand it to everything.

I’m not saying the playerbase has not diminished, but that people should realize something like the mega server has been asked before the game was even released.

[Poll] Cultural armor and availability

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: RedStar.4218

RedStar.4218

Cultural armor is like the armor of each nations army, and that is not something they give freely to their own people, not to mention other races. So to change that would break immersion. Leave it as it is.

Thing is, cultural armor isn’t such a standard uniform. Across each race, yes it’s worn by a lot of them, but some members also wear mixes of other armor, such as a Charr wearing Ascalonian pants. Plus T3 barely makes sense : aside from the set which is worn by the DE representative, the 2 other weights are sometime randomly distributed, such as an Iron Legion Soldier wearing medium T3.

It’s even worse for Humans. The seraph is either wearing T3, gladiator or CM… Shining blades are wearing Banded armor. Right now, I can’t even recall any human NPC wearing light T2 and T3, any medium and heavy T1 and T2. I’m sure there’s at least one example, but my mind is a total blank.

[Poll] Cultural armor and availability

RedStar.4218

How is Charr armor cultural ? In GW1 no Charr wore anything close to that.

Dont compare the 2 games. Disregarding appearances character-wise, there is actually a massive chunk of time between the settings for GW1 and GW2. Society and Culture can evolve in the matter of decades (look at US history), let alone what can happen a decade or two in the future.

Then tell me what makes Charr armor unique to Charr, and while you are at it, same question for human armor (except the heavy T3 which is obvious). The only reason I’m not asking this for Norn and Asura is because they do have a unique way to design armor, which by the way is possible to find similarities in GW1.
But I really don’t get where the inspiration for this : http://wiki.guildwars2.com/images/7/75/Archon_armor_light_charr_both_front.jpg came from.

Why get rid of the only thing that actually makes Races unique? Why get rid of the last shred of lore based game play people can actually have. I like that my characters are all different with their individual cultural pieces that set them apart from other races. It’s the only reason to have multiple races, to make them all unique in their own right.

Visual appearance, personal story, flavor text and racial skills.

But let’s keep on “cultural” armor and lore. The Asura and Sylvari design make sense, same for the Norn.
But Humans ? Aside from being dressed like the Seraph, the other sets have nothing “cultural” about them.
And Charr are the worse…did you see a a GW1 charr ? Where is the link betwen this or this and their cultural armor… The Charr cultural armor would fit other races better…

Regarding charr and asura, there’s already plenty of armor skins, particuarly heavy, that end up in exposed chests on female charr and asura. There’s nothing there that shows, but if this is a concern for some people regarding cultural, it’s already an issue and nobody’s made a stink about it.

Anet covered the orrian armor heavy. They won’t leave an exposed nipple on a female human/norn character. Asura and Charr don’t have nipples, nor do Sylvari.

Newbie Questions

in WvW

Posted by: RedStar.4218

RedStar.4218

I’m in a nice mood so let’s get on with the answers :

1- Every week colors are random. One day you’ll eventually be another color.
However, during the current season, I’m not sure if it’s really random. Green used to be the server with the highest point, blue middle, and red lowest. Out of season the color rotation is random, it might not be the case during the season.

2 – It really depends on what you intend to do. Take a look at each mastery and see which one you’ll use the most.

3 – Yes you get an achievement from each one of them.

4 and 5 – Ram can take down gates. Trebuchet and catapults can also considerably damage a gate, but they do more damage to walls. Mortars can “damage” gates but you’ll have to be incredibly patient to take down a gate with a mortar or anything else.

6 – Cannons, oil and mortars do not disappear if no one interacts with them for an hour, unlike every other siege (rams might have a lower time limit, not sure).

7 and 8 – I define a zerg as 25+ players, because it’s the amount that can pop up orange swords. Roamers are players who wander around (alone or with a few buddies) who are mainly looking for PvP fights against others and occasionally take a camp or two, sometime even a tower.
Havoc teams are a small group of players that attack an objective, while the commander group (the zerg) is busy doing something else.
Scouts are people who roam the map and alert the commander of enemy positions.

9 – A Wxp booster will only affect the amount of Wxp you get.

10 – SMC has a lot of destructible walls and it’s quite common for servers to trebuchet one side.

11 – Friday is the reset day, which means a new match up (you can sometime end up fighting the same servers). http://mos.millenium.org/eu/matchups if you want to see how much time is left before reset.

12 – After this WvW season is over, the server ranks will be adjusted i assume. Does that means that that will decide the new servers we will have to face during the following months?
12 – The ranks of each server depends on their ratings. In the current season, servers are divided into 3 tiers and cannot fight a server from another tier. Once the season ends it will be possible.

13 – It isn’t scheduled.

14 and 15 – EotM is color based. Every server with the same color will be on the same team in EotM. Your color, like before, is the same color you have in your match up and is random (or not, because once again, I’m not sure if it’s random during the season).

16 – Well you have to consider quite a lot of things :
-is the tower heavily fortified (fortified gates)
-does the opposite server have a lot of defenders or a huge attacking force
-do you have enough people to get that tower
Generally a camp isn’t too hard to cap and if there’s a huge force harassing you in a map, some people think that going in another map to attack their towers/keeps will pull that attacking force away from your Borderland/EB side.

17 – You can have as many commander tag people are willing to show on a map. Some servers have no commander tag up because no one wants to tag up or no one has a tag.

18 – I don’t think so and I hope not.

19 – Yes. But for cannons they are probably going to hit the wall they are on, and ramming a player isn’t too useful.

20 and 21 – You can build a WP in all keeps (Garrison, Bay and Hills + the 3 EB keeps). Any server can build a WP in any keep, as long as they hold it long enough for the upgrade to complete. When a server loses an objective (camp/tower/keep) all the upgrades go back to 0.

22 – Impossible to kill players in spawn because they are invulnerable there.

24 – Well the biggest issues is what people call night cap (or PvD). Basically, some servers have a lot of players during certain times of the day while the opposing servers have nearly no one to defend. Thus that server is able to cap quite a lot of objective with basically no opposition (thus Player versus doors).
And basically, a server is only as strong as it’s night team (regarding PPT (points per tick) of course).

BTW : if you consider transferring, be wary that you won’t be able to play in the borderlands or EB until the current match up ends and the one after it. For example if you transfer on monday 14/04 you’ll only be able to play in those maps on friday 25/04, after the reset.

I’d love it if they did away with not only cultural armor restrictions, but armor weight restrictions as well. …The combination of outfits would be wonderful!

I think they already said they can’t easily do that because of how they designed armor parts, especially due to medium armor where the chest part includes coats that go way below the waist. Which would result in (even more) terrible clipping issues between light armor skirts and medium armor tops.

But the opposite would be so nice : light classes will finally have more pants options and medium armor will finally have coat-less tops.

In my Charr example (and pretty much the only one due to nudity), I doubt they have an alternate version laying around for females.

As for Sylvari, it’s kind of a mix of problems. The models are already there for both sexes, and even if we ignore how weird it’d look, there’s sort of a nudity problem. With Sylvari it isn’t so bothersome, but on another race it would look quite skimpy (I’m not so much against it, but QQ’ers will flock).

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

RedStar.4218

It’s not that great in PVE aswell. Before patch you needed 6 transmutation stones to change your outfit up to lvl 79, now you will need to use 18 [3:1 ratio, and i’m sure map completition will give you 1 charge, not 3]. Sorry, but this is just money grab, nothing more :/

i already know about the 1 charge per rank, but 6 pieces of armor is 6 charges every time i want to look different… unless we get charges consistently out of tourney win chests, how would we keep this up?

Am I really the only one who barely cares about the headset (I didn’t bother to chose a face to have it covered) ? And only slightly more about gloves, boots and shoulders ?
This isn’t to choose a side of the argument or anything, but I doubt every time you change armor skin, you are really changing all 6 pieces.

I doubt they’ll allow one day every race to wear every cultural armor. Mainly due to two things :
-Some sylvari cultural would look extremely weird on anything else, especially a Charr. Maybe it won’t bother some people, but the biggest problem is
-Asura and Charr do not have female versions. While it is not too bothersome for Asura, the T2 medium charr has an exposed torso. A bra could easily be added, but it’s still extra work. Then they also have to redesign the boots.

AP, a real measurement of player ability?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: RedStar.4218

RedStar.4218

In general, AP is not an indicator of ability, however, in order to get “over 9000” AP, one has to have at least a cursory knowledge of the mechanics of some parts of the game.

Those with less than about 2500 usually have mostly general PvE experience from hearts, DE’s and leveling, and not a lot of dungeon specific experience. This is not to say that they are not able to run a dungeon, as there are those who are good, even though they may not have been playing for very long.

So, while not an indicator of skill, it is an indicator of having been in the game for a while and knowing the basics.

I know quite a lot of people who have 2 or more accounts and play on whichever. Or players who gave their account to a sibling/friend.
