Then the correct sentence would be “mot people know how to press the dodge key-bind”.
(It’s playing on words, I know)

But people aren’t bothering to learn.
Yesterday I was in the harpies fractal 19, with a mesmer that seemed competent enough. Except, he wasn’t ever using feedback. Half-way through the fractal I got tired of it and said “feedback works on harpies ^^” to which he said “oh really ? I didn’t know” and then he started using feedback.

Feedback reflects projectiles. It doesn’t take a genius to guess that arrows and lighting orbs are projectiles.
Some might say “well a lot of things can’t be reflected now !” to which I’ll answer “at least try it once to find out if it can be reflected…”

I’m sure a lot of us have stories of players needing someone else to state the obvious such as :
-step out of the red aoe circles
-you see Kholer charging his attack for 3 seconds ? Dodge it
-you see Kholer spinning and doing a lot of damage to you ? Step away
-don’t stand in Frost’s ice ray. Move around him. It’s faster to move around him if you are really close to him.
-don’t stay in front of CM p3 first boss.

If you get killed over and over again, you should start thinking what’s killing you and how you can dodge that. Instead of doing the same mistake over and over and over again.

It’s pretty simple : the player base seems (key word) to hate underwater combat.

How many times did you get in a HotW group to find out that 3 players didn’t have an exotic underwater weapon ? Or an under level 10 breathing apparatus ?
Sometime it’s because they neglected upgrading it (for the rare times it’s useful) but a lot of the time it’s because they simply hate underwater fights.

And it’s no wonder why : look at the fights we’re given. HotW p2 and p3 bosses might be the dullest dungeon bosses in all of the game. Even Tazza is less boring.

Then there’s the fact that a lot of utility skills can only be used on land, forcing players to choose other skills instead of giving us water-only skills with similar effects.

I’m convinced that this is why we aren’t ever getting news of the DSD : Anet seems to think their players hate underwater fights.

and the DSD would be a long way south for that compass to line up with that.

Aren’t some people theorizing that the DSD would be closer to Cantha ? Which would make it a long way south.

But Jormag doesn’t really fit in this. Even if you stretched the line, it’d be too far east before hitting any kind of snowy region. As for Mordremoth, it could have been in Woodlands, but so far it’s rather somewhere in Maguuma Wastes.

And finally : if that was really a compass, and assuming Anet plans things carefully and logic can be applied to it, how would that compass work ?

-Based on where each dragon was resting ? It only fits Zhaitan.
-Based on where each dragon were when they built it ? It fails with Mordremoth and if Jormag was right in Deldrimor Front, we would have seen something that big.

i actually remember fight a certain ele. During those times, I was wearing exotic but a really bad combination of exotics and that player was wearing the best combination of everything with food buffs.

I basically tried everything I could and I keep dying in a under a minute. Its wasnt that I was terrible bad and I did surprise that person a few times. Later, I realize I had to really bad combination of stats and regardless anything I do I will lose. The opponents damage is too high and I hit like a wet noodle.

In wvwvw, your stats matter. I learned that the hard way.

The difference between Exotic Giver’s with Rune of the Guardian and Exotic Berserker’s with Rune of the Scholar in terms of damage is way bigger than with Ascended Berserker’s.

Then you have traits.

We could argue with hundreds of example if gear really matters over skill, but I don’t want to bother with that, when it’s been done over and over and over and over again through out the years.

But in the end, in WvW your stats only matter when you try to 1v1 or have really small group play. In WvW tiny fights are rarely what’s going to decided who wins the week.

As much as I agree with the OP, there is another problem. This game is pretty much gear gated. Did you take a look at the cost and requirements for ascended? it is pretty much a time/gold sink. Not all players will be wearing the correct combination of gear and food buffs to allow a bump in difficulty. It is also the reason why wvwvw is one of the most unbalanced game modes. Theory crafting became much more expensive in this game which limits the potential of diversity.

Sometimes I wonder if levels and gear are all mistakes and games should create difficulty through content.

I sincerely doubt food buffs and ascended equipments ever come up as main points when people discuss while WvW is unbalanced.

As for gear gated it’s not. We used to ran everything just fine in exotics.
Of course, now it’d be terrible on our part to not have at least ascended trinkets with fractals, guild commendations and laurels. Weapons aren’t too hard to do, if you have a bit of patience.
As for armor, well I agree that this one costs a lot…for so little, so you can do just fine without one.

Very nice,
try to explain the same thing to the people, who asking for a Berserk Guardian (LFG).
try to explain that thing to the people who play Guards like Warriors, i.e. no removing conditions or buffing the party.

To all new Guards my advise as “old” Guard, PROTECT the party, use your skills, WoR is a tool u need in most dungeons (like CM, SE), dps is not your priority!!

Gear wise, as a guardian if you know how to handle each encounter your gear should be berserker. PVT is for players who can’t yet manage dodge and blocks and Cleric is for players who think that a healing guardian really helps the party survives (killing monsters also helps the party survives).

Utility skills and Traits (even more now that you can switch them whenever you want) should depend on the encounter.

But if you play a guardian only to do a lot of damage or….to “heal”…you picked the wrong class.

Blame the Guardian

in Fractals, Dungeons & Raids

Posted by: RedStar.4218

RedStar.4218

In such an old game, if you bring a Guardian it’s because you want to use specific tasks best suited to a guardian :
-giving block
-removing conditions
-giving stability
-blocking projectiles

By correctly doing so, other classes which only purpose is to deal damage can focus on that instead of focussing on taking other utility skills/traits.

So if you play a Guardian to deal damage, you didn’t pick the best profession.

Of course, in a PuG, experience has taught me (and us) to never fully trust other players. That is why, even if there’s another guardian, I’m not going to pick another alt.

However, for some things, I won’t bring always WoR. If my team can play fine without it I won’t bother taking something that’s going to be nearly useless.

But /kicking someone because they do not want to take a certain skill… Well just learn to live without it. Or point it out at least.

You have piqued my interest enough for me to step out of the shadows to ask you a few questions.

You say that you would use the wall in situations that almost necessitate it, but can you name me seven encounters where a WoR would be needed?

Let’s clear all “well if you don’t do it like this/if you use stealth/etc” because nothing is really needed and if you want take more time to do the same encounter without using any kind of projectile reflect or have people downed, it’s up to you.

So :
-AC p2 end boss. If you aggro it and place a WoR right at the edge of the circle, the boss will be lured right next to the trap. If your team isn’t dumb, you’ll be able to pull enough oozes just as WoR dissapears and you can cast SoA to kill the boss without losing anyone (you can also do it regularly, but it takes more time)
-SE p1 : guardian pulls golems with GS #5, uses WoR and Stand your ground, team kills everything.
-Uncategorized fractal (x2) : the harpies and the final boss
-CM p2 after killing Mad Martha but just before the final boss. If you wan to kill all those enemies without losing anyone, reflects are your best bet.
-Volcano fractal final boss when the lava elemental spawn and also to block its arrows

And I can’t really think right now of other situations where I’m sure to carry a WoR on my skill bar.

And then you have the “hey lucky ! oh woops now that you hit the correct number, you haven’t hit the one you wanted” feeling everyone who :

“Projectiles”

Certain attacks are classified as projectiles. A number of skills can be used to either reflect or block those projectiles.
- Wall of Reflection (Consecration, 40s recharge, 10s duration, light combo field) : Protect the targeted area with a wall of mystic power that reflects projectiles.
[insert image of a Guardia reflecting projectiles with WoR, or bette a video]
Affected by :
*
Master of consecration : reduced recharge to 32s, increase duration to 12s
**Consecrated ground : Wall of Reflection can be ground target with a range of 900

Etc for Shield of Absortion, Shield of the Avenger and Zealot’s defense.

Basically something that’s simple and clear.

As for the AoE range example, that only really works well with AoE range. To this day, I barely have any idea how far 900 actually is. I could read thousand words papers on it and would still be clueless because it’s one of those things that are quite terribly done in this game. They give us those numbers but no visual aid. In GW1 you at least had the radar to help you.
In GW2 all I know is that above 1200 you can be quite far away and under 600 you might as well hug the enemy.

The best is to have both a visual aid and a text description for details.

As for people who can’t read, well I know a bunch who got better at reading (or learned english) from reading in video games. So having a tutorial with heavy reading needed, it’s not a barrier to players who have reading problems.
They could try to make it even easier for those players by actually building an interactive tutorial with NPC saying out loud the general informations.

But once again, 2 year old game. Anet won’t do that.

Thank you. Something I can understand. Hour long- indepth- hard. Im assuming hard means unskippable/ have to complete objectives?

Sorta like titan falls tutorial. IIRC you couldnt actually play the full game unless you finished the tutorial and it required you to successfully demonstrate basic proficiency.

Something that’s profession specific and really takes you by the hand and tells you exactly what to do. Then you have to complete a test that can only be completed by using all the things you have learned.

For examples, guardians will have to use all of their blocks/invunerabilty/aegis to survive a part of the test. They will have to pull monsters together, or use line and ring of warding. Then use all of their reflects.

It certainly won’t be fun. But at least it will teach you nearly everything that you need to know about your skills.

Unfortunately, this is soon to be a 2 year old game and something like that requires too much work. It won’t happen.
But an in-game book with pictures will sure be a nice substitute. And force people to read it.

Anet needs to hit people hard with a tutorial. Really hard. Even if a lot of players hate going through an hour long tutorial, it’s needed in this game.

And not the kind of tutorial that teaches you how to use skill number 1 and then skill number 2.

Something that teaches you all you need to know about your profession regarding its skills and the combos it can do.

You don’t need to know any of those stuff in other to complete whatever you want in the game. But it certainly helps making things easier and faster for you and your party.

Right now, some players barely know any of those stuff. Some simply copy what’s happening in videos without even understanding what’s really happening (like pulling a boss in a corner when you have no FGS…or acting like the best player around and being incapable of stacking might).
Or not using your reflects on harpies.

That actually a lot more reasonable/supportable exchange than many I’ve seen proposed.

You still run into two problems when pitching it to the Devs: An ectoplasm is worth a lot more than the 5 silver we know they’re comfortable with (not a deal-killer, just an acknowledgement of scale) and currently no ascended items are salvageable which cuts down a lot on support ticket hassles form accidentally destroyed terminal/BiS gear. Opening up ANY ascended items to salvaging is one of those floodgate/slippery slope decisions they may want to just avoid entirely. It’ll cost them real man-hours on the back end.

Can’t (or couldn’t) you salvage legendaries ?

And besides, there’s already a warning box when you try to salvage a rare.
Then again, you also have warning boxes and buying exotics from dungeon vendors or anything from laurel vendors. And people still make mistakes and file support tickets.

Also, season 2 will see more skins available with each new chapter if season 1 is anything to go by…

Let’s clarify something : If they keep doing what they did during season 1, you’ll only see new backpacks, with probably a few gloves/head/boots thrown in. Then probably every months you’ll get a new full set in the gemstore.

It’s not really harder to hide a mesmer in Bravost and Langor. Or Aldon and Jerrifer.
However, hiding in OL is incredibly harder than in Green and Blue keep.

And while 1 treb can hit both towers, the time it takes to turn the treb around, might as well build a second one.

Hearts were added because people got lost without them and didn’t know where to go or what to do. The goal was to guide people and make them stick around a little for a DE to pop out.

As for DE being different from traditional quests : well you see the event. You see for yourself that something is going on. When you are asked to kill centaurs, you don’t have to wander in the woods looking for immobile centaurs. You are in a camp that’s being attacked by centaurs or you are trying to attack a centaur camp.

We have provocative armors, they’re not they majority, nor should they ever be. There are plenty of awful korean games like Aion that have proven that. And they should be (and can be) well designed regardless of how much skin they show.

But for cripes sake we just got an armor which consists of blue body paint and strategically placed jewelry, what on earth do you have to complain about?

Because that’s not to everyone’s taste ?

A lot of players here aren’t asking skimpy armor for the sake of being skimpy. When they say revealing, they don’t mean a plunging necklines. They sometime simply wants to have arms that aren’t covered. Or skirts that don’t come with tights/slim pants. Not kitten skirts, simple skirts.
And that Celestial armor, for female light, is one of the ugliest armor I can think of in this game. Not necesarily because of the body paint (it doesn’t help) but because it’s not really sexy. Yes it’s skimpy, no doubt there. But I don’t want my character to be dress in something that even a prostitute wouldn’t wear, nor do I want my character to be dress like a nun or anything she’s going to die from over-heating when killing monsters in the sun after a long day of running and jumping around.

Saying “you have this armor, just shut up and wear it” would be like players saying to people who complain about too much skimpy outfits “you have the Devout armor, just wear it”.

People love to mention how “armor should be armor” and “you need protection” well try diving, jumping, running in jungles with the Seer armor. We’ll see how practical it is.
Point is : drop the kittening “it’s not real” and all “real life” examples. In your examples, your precious little soldiers didn’t have to swim in frozen lakes then jump through levitating stones in a jungle environment before running around in a desert that’s been underwater for centuries, all in exactly the same armor.

While playing? Yes. While standing idle? No. I solo dungeons all the time, so they come even slower than if I were to do in groups. Having to destroy several bloodstone stacks in an hour is just obnoxious and no one should have to do that because a very small minority of people have 20 characters and want ascended on all of them.

While doing champion farms ?

If not, I really meant the “getting more than 3 stacks every 5 minutes”. Assuming you got 20 dust per bags, that’s more than 12 champions to get a stack. Even with champ trains you weren’t killing 12 champions in 5 minutes.

If by several you mean 3-4, than you shouldn’t complain when newer players have to deal with getting them now.

And I’ve been destroying a lot of dust. And a lot of empyreal and even more dragonite. Yet I’m not complaining for the 3 seconds it takes to destroy a stack.
I’d rather complain about having to type “Box ’o fun” when I want to destroy one…

So they changed it to this. Or maybe this was an unintended change (look at alphard).

It’s been a while since I’ve been in Arah p2 (around 3 months).

But which unintended change are you talking about ? When they silently buffed Alphard ?
Or did something else happen ?

#Guild Wars 3 2020

With what happened to GW1, you are a tad too positive. It wouldn’t surprise me if after LS season 2 we hear great announcements, then silence, followed by “well…we want to do a lot of stuff but can’t with the current GW2 engine. So we’re working on GW3 which we’ll have everything you love from GW2 !”
With a little luck, maybe GW3 will feel like it’s actually connected to GW1…

Bloodstone dust nerfs?

Because people keep on complaining so ArenaNet just nerf rates similarly to Karma and Silk (pre ascended crafting patch)

So you’re basically saying that this is Anet’s way of listening to its customers ?

Excluding the Bloodstone dust, which in the end will barely affect anyone because they are likelier to be limited by dragonite and empyreal, are you saying the karma and silk nerf was done thinking it was doing the playerbase a favor ?

With how Anet handles retcons and “nope, what you heard wasn’t true. It was said by someone who didn’t know everything”, they can pass everything they want as “minor”.

No to race-only professions.

Forgive me if I’m mistaken, but didn’t the Paragon rely on the gods for their power in GW1?

If so, the current lore would prevent them from existing – the gods aren’t hanging around any more.

Let’s not bother with such “minor” things. If Anet wants something, they’ll bend the lore however they want.
