To those that level through dungeons.

A dungeon (explorable or story) is 70% of your experience bar.

While leveling I never cleared the same path on the same day, so I’m not too sure about how experience would be affected.
From reading on the wiki it would seem that to avoid DR you simply need to clear the 3 paths in the same order (don’t clear 1 then 2 then 1 again).

Once my character is at the appropriate level I do other dungeons.

Doing dungeons can be fastest way to level if your team can finish it in a nice amount of time (less than 1 hour).
But while you can’t find a team do play, you might as well do events. Unfortunately, I don’t know a lot about event chains in 45-70 zones.

The nice thing about doing dungeons while you level is that by 80 you should have enough tokens and gold to acquire exotic equipment, so plan ahead by looking at the merchants to see which stats combination you want.

If everyone does what they are able to do to help the situation, there shouldn’t be any problems.

Enemies have boons ? Do you have a skill to get rid of them ? If yes then maybe you should take it.
Projectiles ? Do you have something against that ?
Your team is having a hard time against Kohler ? Maybe bring stability or an anti projectile to help them.
Lot of melee ? Maybe use mass blind (such as combo field if you can) or skills to reduce the damage.
etc…

You are able to change your skills in a dungeon, use it.

And then of course, there’s the player’s skill. But if that’s only a matter of training.

Don’t remember this well, but try to either separate them with a skill that pulls (if you have a thief or a necromancer) or try to put them in a tight ball to easily kill them with your AoE.

If you have a guardian/mesmer/elementalist/thief use anti projectiles. If you have a necromancer use well of blindness.

Or find 2 more players.

Path 3 is the shortest, then path 2 and finally path 1 (have yet to try path 4).

For us path 2 was longer than path 1. Maybe it’s because we took all our time during the mines part.

Finding a good guild really helps and since being able to join multiple guilds help a lot.

However this is strange that you can’t even find a group on gw2lfg. Maybe it’s because of the holidays.

A word of caution : you might hate AC story mode. It’s a painful one for first timers and not every dungeon is similar to it.

I guess this was in CM.

If you need to go melee be sure to bring a few skills to resit damage or reflect projectiles.
If you don’t need to melee, stay back and wait a few seconds for enemies to settle on someone before coming closer. But be sure to have a defensive skills in case you are in trouble.

Also wear gear appropriate for your level, with defensive bonuses if you can find some.

Well it makes sense now.
Now if this was to go to all paths that were hard or groups try to avoid imagine:
Cm seraph path – 60g

What ?! How can someone think of this path as hard as CoF path 3 and Arah path 4. I never did those 2, but after the comments I figured out that I should do them when I have all the time in the world.
But CM seraph path ? I rather do that than any path in AC or TA.

It’s not a question of level, nor a question of achievement points. It’s a question of experience and there is no way to be sure of that until it might be too late.

Someone could be in full Arah armor, even have the dungeon master title and still be a total idiot in a path he only did once. Even in full AC armor he could have gotten it by repeating the same path over and over again or his guild carried him every time, basically doing it as a 4-man team.

I don’t mind players who suggest that we do something their way. If I don’t agree with it, I’ll nicely tell him how I want to do it and why I don’t want to do it his way.
But players who forces their stupid idea on others are a nuisance (like killing necromancers last…).

You used 3 exp boosts ? Or things like food and other consumables ? At best this means that this lasted at least an hour, at worst more than 2.

If it took you that long to get “mid dungeon” or even to finish the path, the problem lies somewhere else than not being a level 80 in full exotics. It’s a problem with how your team played.

How are boulders a gimmick?

Keeping a boss on the ground, preventing it from using any skills or even moving, thus rendering the whole encounter trivial is something I find to be a gimmick.

It’s not an exploit, because Anet placed those boulders, but it’s not a totally expected part of the fight because nothing hints you to use those boulders that abusively, especially on the last fight (except if I missed something).
So it’s a cheap trick, a gimmick.

AC story mode is particularly horrible. It tries to teach you what you should and shouldn’t do in a dungeon is rather harsh way.

However, the bosses are easy. Then Ranger isn’t really hard, and for the others, use boulders. That’s the thing with AC story mode, you must use gimmicks to defeat the bosses.
Yes you could bother to kill them the “real” way, but why bother risking your life when you keep the boss on the ground ? It even works on the lovers. Push them together with boulders and then you’ll be able to knockdown both of them with only one rock.

no one used to skip dungeon trash in WoW because once aggroed, the mobs would chase you through the dungeon until you’re dead. there was no way of resetting them other then certain class mechanics like hunter’s Feign Death and rogue’s Vanish.
I’m not sure if it changed, haven’t played that game in years.

I don’t know if that would be a good idea in GW2 (mobs never letting you go).
First they would have to make it not affect bosses because players will pull certain bosses to easy to fight places.
Then how problematic will it be to implement ? NPCs only walk on more or less flat terrain. If there is a barely steep slope, they’ll walk around it if they have to. If NPCs behavior is changed, players could simply trap NPCs by making them fall down a slope they won’t be able to come back up.
Speaking of which, since you have WP in dungeons, a team member could simply get the aggro, put monsters in a far away corner for the rest of the team to pass without problem.
Or use stealth (skills or items).

Pure chaos works best there, have 1 person randomly throw around kegs and get the other people to keep running kegs. Takes some time but works without wipes.

What works even better is getting it right the first time. And then have one party member throw kegs if it failed.

Path 3 is the easiest and it can be done in a short amount of time (30-45 minutes). There really isn’t a special thing you really need to know before going in except “be careful not to aggro mobs when fighting the first 2 bosses”. Everything else can be learned on the spot. However the thing with corrosive lights can be annoying the first time you do it.
This path would really be extremely easy if it didn’t have GL.

And path 2 isn’t too bad, but it’s a little longer.

I think most players only run path 3 because it’s the one that doesn’t suffer from too many bugs. Now it seems that the bugs in the other paths have been fixed though (well most of them).

Farming a complete armor set is 1380 tokens, so between 20 and 23 paths (if you get your 3 bags of wondrous goods).

What are the boss exploits ? And by exploit I mean something where the boss stops attacking or things like not, not taking advantage of the environment (by making the Boss run around) or what most players do when facing Alpha.

Since you haven’t played in a few weeks I’m wondering if you’re aware that for some arbitrary reason Mr Hroudra decided everyone was doing it wrong and kiting the mobs around was bad. So the timer for Magg to explode the door was increased as well as the number of mobs. With the exception of coordinated groups who use certain types of builds (as well as decent equipment) most people lack the power/defense to fight off the mobs away from Magg long enough so they simply suicide kite them.

When did this happen ?

For CoF it’s not too much annoying. The chain leading to the last event can be done by a single person and the final one is extremely easy.

For CoE it’s annoying. It takes more time than CoF.

Then we have Arah. The final push takes quite a while, so does the events leading to it. And it’s quite easy to fail…
And sometime it bugs…although I have noticed that now when it bugs (“Pact is at Caer Brier”) it resets after a while and the chain starts over.
And that is why I leave my character at the dungeon door. Stuck there until we are done with Arah, so we can enter it without having to do the whole chain (which is annoying, but not as annoying as when the gate bugs…).

The Forgotten Path is the “easiest”.

-Try to fight the first 2 bosses around where they are, pushing them towards the corner to avoid fighting the silver patrol around them.
One of them is an archer that hits kind of hard. He keeps moving away from his target, so try to position yourself so that he moves towards the corner and not towards the patrol.
The other has a hammer. His attack is deadly but incredibly easy to dodge because he takes a few seconds to charge it.

-Then you can skip the mobs or fight them. Since its your first time, I say fight them so you don’t get lost and you can observe patrols patterns.

-At one point you are going to spawn a spider champion. She’s kind of like the spider in TA up path. You can try to skip, but we never manage to break aggro.

-The second boss is really easy. His marks are easy to dodge. First WP.

-The next thing can be incredibly annoying. You have to pick up a corrosive light and bring it to another place. The catch is that you lose a chunk of health every second. So you have to play volleyball with your teammates.
A tactic we do is that while someone has the light, the others hug him so that when he throws the light, they can easily catch it.

-Giganticus…well I guess there are hundreds of guides about that encounter. Second WP.

-After that you have a few mobs and another spider champion, which can be skipped. A third WP will spawn when you get to the risen chicken (not too far from the spider champion).

-Then you have to reach the altar. The giants are easy to dodge. The first part of the fight involves attuning 3 circles around 3 pillars. It’s really easy.

-The last boss is easy. If you get too many stacks of corruptions you can run in the light to get rid of them.

The Mursaat path is the second easiest. The bosses are a little harder than those on path one.

Stability, reflects, blocks and skills that pull are useful in this dungeon. Stealth is useful when you want to skip mobs.

For the corridor full of trap have one person run to the door before the boss dies. When the door open all that person has to do is run towards the ramp (without aggroing anything) and it will disable the traps.

For the group near the ramp, the easiest tactic is to jump on the rock next to it and then jump on the rail, it’s pretty easy to do and allows you to entirely skip that group.
Or if you have a thief you could use mass stealth and simply run up the ramp.

Once you are up the ramp, run straight for cover, that way the bandits that spawn will have to come to where you are and you can melee them.

Did it once with a mesmer, a necro, a level 67 thief, an ele and a guardian (who is in full Knight). If you can’t do too much damage, at least try to hinder incoming waves.

Players fail this path because they do not really think more than “I need to kill this golem the fastest way”, thus sacrificing their life, for a few more damage but in the end getting killed by the golem itself.

Of course if you are in a team of 5 warriors in full Berseker, you’ll probably have an easy time to kill this golem. But if you aren’t, the fight will last a little longer and you are going to have to survive one, two or more waves.

-Jump on the rock just before the first barrier
-Let the first wave pass
-Destroy the first barrier, quickly run to the golem to activate it and then run back to the rock to let the second wave pass
-Rush to the golem, focus entirely on it and hope that you can kill it before too many waves come.

If you aren’t a melee, don’t get too close to the golem because it will KD you. But it might pull you.
If you are capable on slowing and protecting your teammates from inquests, don’t hesitate too much (Anti projectiles, the mass daze from the ele, blind from the thief off hand gun, etc).

If you die during the golem fight, try to come back to prevent a reset.
Once the golem is dead, go back to killing the barriers without bothering with the enemies. Sometime you might have too many enemies on you, so they will probably kill you. If that’s the case, use the first WP, wait 30 seconds and go back.

Hi, thank you for your answer, i thought every dungeon offers multiple stat combination choiches, and the set i want, the rabid one (precision, toughness, condition damage) is available in every one i listed above, am i wrong?
Thank you again!

No you are right, the dungeons you listed offer gear with the stats you want. You can verify that in game or here

CM runs can take from 20 minutes to an hour per path. It’s quite easy to learn too.
TA runs, like CM, can be really fast or really slow depending on your group. I find it to be more complicated than CM.
As for HotW : path 1 isn’t too bad at takes something like 20 minutes but path 2 is longer and underwater for the last part and I never did path 3.

So I’d say go for CM. Read a few guides on it on how to skip mobs, it’s quite easy (and I’m talking about those exploits where you jump on rocks to get somewhere you definitely shouldn’t be…I hope they finally got removed from the game).

Wow 2 hours for CM Story Mode…that’s awful, simply awful. It’s understandable to be extremely annoyed when you wasted two hours in a dungeon that can be completed in 20 minutes and as such the exp gain is quite good for the time spent.

As an elementalist, you don’t have a lot of toughness and vitality. If you use earth, I hope you put points in that trait line. As for your armor, even if it’s only a green set, I hope it gives bonus to toughness or at least vitality.
You can’t kill anything if you get killed rapidly.

If you use a scepter I hope you are using a focus as your off hand. That way you can use obsidian flesh and magnetic wave to throw off projectiles and then switch to air to use swirling winds (since there are a lot of snipers in CM).
Or you could use a staff to stand back more (and use eruption since you like to inflict bleeding) and use your different skills to help your teammates.

But it’s your first dungeon experience. Pretty much everyone first dungeon experience has been horrible. You aren’t really ready to do it (gear and skill wise) and the rest of your team probably has no clue either.
And because dungeons rely heavily on teamwork, all you need is 2 players that are completely loss and the whole thing becomes horrible.

In the end, get better equipement (not necessarily rares, but at least a masterwork item of your level which increases your toughness) and take your time to learn the different mechanics of CM, like taking something to counter snipers.

It was more than a promise.

John: These are getting built into the game itself, they will be there at launch. They are not something that we will tack on later, they are part of the cities.

But ColinJohanson already said it is something they have finally decided to wait on. Maybe they ran into different kind of bugs that would have taken too long to fix and they did not want to include them when the game launched. Or maybe there is another reason.

All I hope is that mini games will not be a feature that will only be include in the game in 3 years.

Are you talking about the Keg Brawl? I played this in Beta and had some fun with it. You’ll find it on the frozen lake in Hoelbrak.

Latinkuro.9420 is talking about what was mentioned in this interview : http://www.gamereactor.eu/articles/4160/Guild+Wars+2+interview/

And if someone does not have the time to read it all, here’s the most interesting part :

Alright. Because I was thinking about, you brought up the bar brawl, for example Funcom had something like that planned for Age of Conan, and I’m not sure that made it in at launch. Is there any risk that something similar would happen to the activities? Or is it an integral part of the game experience in itself?

John: These are getting built into the game itself, they will be there at launch. They are not something that we will tack on later, they are part of the cities.

Eric Flannum: One of the things I can say is that we tend to, you know, we were pretty tight-lipped about the game for a long time and we tend not to talk about things unless they are actually in the game. So when we talk about activities, like when we talk about the bar brawl, or the shooting gallery, because they are actually in the game you can go in and experience them right now. And so there is actually very little chance that most things we talk about are not going to make it into the game just because we run out of time or anything like that. Because, as I said, we tend not to talk about things unless we’re very, very certain that we can do them. Certain as in they are in already.

It is sad that bar brawl with the other 28-29 activities suffered from bad luck.
