There is 18 achievements total. 5 of those achievements do not require you to traverse a jumping puzzle. Meaning you still have to do 11 achievements that require you to traverse a jumping puzzle in order to get the meta done.

The mini game achievements do not count ?

And honestly you cannot count using the wind to travel through the course a JP…It’s not because you are in the air that it’s a JP. I’d argue that even the goggles aren’t a JP because you don’t even have to be a good jumper or have any kind of reflexes in order to get to them.

Nope the point your missing is they clearly put that JP would be optional however if most of the living story is going to add them then that means the whole thing is nothing more then optional. So I salute anet for wasting time and money of paying players.

I think we don’t have the same definition of “optional”. You can get the 16 achievements required for the chest without doing the kites in the JP or finding the 40 crystals.
So those 3 kites tied to JP ? Fully optional. Except for achievement points.

To RedStar.4218
“And honestly, except a handful of JP, most of them don’t require a lot of coordination.”
When people come to the shop where I work & bring their broken PCs, I can answer them 70% of time: “Honestly, you do not need my services, you can do it yourselves, if you just search for right info on the Net, have patience and willing to waste bunch of your time”.
But I never say it because, being 40+ year old, I know that the time is the greatest currency in the world.
And yes, I do not buy a GAME to waste a bunch of my lifetime to do some exercises in masochism.

You didn’t understand : most jumping puzzles aren’t puzzles at all. One of them don’t require any kind of jump and dozen of others have jumps that won’t kill you.

If Anet placed something at the end of the Branded Cavern, then maybe complaining about it would be okay.

And on 7 kites, 3 of them aren’t even in a JP and 1 of them is an incredibly easy JP. That leaves Spekk, which can be hard, and Iron Pig which isn’t as bad at it seems. Obsidian Sanctum entirely depends on what server you are on.

Your still missing the big point here but I can’t help you figure it out if your not willing. So enjoy the game until they mess up something you like which they will.

What exactly did they mess up ? Your achievement points ?
Are you missing out on a mission or an event ? Unable to obtain a skin you desire ? Changed they way you play ?

He is right on one point. Anet said in the past that JP were optional for players. Now they are including them in most of the living story so right the best thing to do is is what night said. However I will say this right now don’t trust anet to keep anything they say.

Because the kites and the caches are really important to the living story ? I mean you really aren’t missing anything from not doing them. Except achievement points, which is approximately 500 points for all JP and achievements related to it.

And honestly, except a handful of JP, most of them don’t require a lot of coordination.

It’s not that they want NPC to be unique, it’s probably that they couldn’t be bothered to design a medium and heavy armor equivalent for that armor, and also a male version and some minor adjustment.

Even if a few years ago, they mentioned that we were going to be able to get every armor a NPC wears.

Cathedral and Citadel aren’t located in the same place. And during the Searing, most of the Catacombs collapsed, thus the excavation teams.

But the dungeons in GW2 do feel smaller than in GW1 visually and they are actually incredibly smaller (except maybe Arah). Then again, in EotN, most dungeons were reskins of each other, you really could get lost in them and there were hundreds of monsters in those multi level dungeons.

RedStar.4218

I’ve did it with a guild team of 1 mesmer 4 guardians (so probably the easiest set up possible for this dungeon).

I didn’t even pay attention to the bit with “3 grenadiers on an itty bitty platform”.

The cannon part is…well they put a huge blind spot there. If they wanted us to fight in the “real” conditions, why do such a thing ?

Hiding behind the crates will simply make the fight way too easy. Why move around if you can just stay behind ? And you have blocks/stun breakers/stability and maybe teleport skills (didn’t try) to survive the golems.

As for the last fights, it can be annoying to get him to hit her. But she generally only shadowsteps when she is too far from players. So try to get a little bit closer to her.

And during the AoE part, if you don’t freak out and if you don’t stay close to each other, you shouldn’t have too much difficulty surviving that.

PUG = Pick Up Group

A pug can be coordinated and just as good as a guild group. A guild group can be horrible as a noob group.

Sadly enough, in GW2 most of the time a PuG is a noob (not newbie). Or at least that’s what I end up partying with.
In GW2, you can have 6k achievement, the dungeon master title and a legendary and still know next to nothing about playing your class in a certain dungeon. Because you can be carried by 4 other dudes. And heaven forbid you give them tips, you insufferable elitist.

But guildies can be the same.

I suggest everyone to buy the armor skins off the shop, it is possible that if they sell SIGNIFCANTLY more by selling the skins directly, they could change their marketing strategy to reflect it; which means this could end the RNG issue.

So we have pretty much given up on Anet making things available through regular gameplay ? I guess it’s better than we don’t have to test our luck and end up with trash, but it’s not really a good thing either.

The armorsets aren’t bad either. In fact, they’re rather amazing! But it’s the small things which ruin it. (ANOTHER poofy trenchcoat…)

You cannot create something to please everyone. And after complaining so much that light armor have skirts nearly everywhere and medium armor have coats on nearly every single set, we get…a big skirt and a trenchcoat.

They won’t be in RNG boxes, you can simply buy it for gems in gem store, like the current skins are.

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

What bothers me with the way some skins are added is that it doesn’t make you play the game differently, taking you to new places. Instead you farm whatever you can (CoF because it seems it survived all the nerfs) then buy the item on the TP. No questing, no event, no running around to new places. Just farm for gold and buy it.

And then the RNG boxes take it to another level. You want to farm one ? It’s more efficient to farm and convert to gems, instead of wasting your time farming something rare hoping it gives you something extremely rare.

Solo Dungeon option - end forced grouping

in Fractals, Dungeons & Raids

Posted by: RedStar.4218

RedStar.4218

1. Many of the dungeons are Empty. I’ve been to AC looking for a group to get tears and NO ONE is there.

2. Since when does MMO mean 5 man instance dungeons.

3. They have the knowledge to upgrade or downgrade your abilities to an area. Why not just upgrade or downgrade the dungeon to the amount of players in the party.
This would give a 2 man team a difficulty of 2/5 of the regular 5 man dungeon. So it would not be any easier for 2 than 5. So what’s the problem with this system. Oh, I know some of those players that don’t do dungeons might get a legendary weapon and not have to buy the one your selling for 2500 gold.

4. You could take 10 players and do a dungeon twice as hard as the 5 man one or 25 players could do one 5 times as hard as the 5 man one.

5.And I mean real useful AI characters we could use to do the dungeons.

1. Post of LFG. That might not be the solution you are looking for right now, but it’s the best one.

2. Since GW1 playerbase complained that 8 persons was too much, so they lowered it to 5.

3. Difficulty isn’t just a matter of tweaking health and damage. You have to take into account the different monsters abilities or their numbers relative to the number of players, and dungeons mechanics.
If they somehow manage to transfer the same difficulty for only 2 players, don’t think that it will become a walk in the park. With 5 players you have 4 people helping you. When you do down, you can instantly get back up.
With only one helper, if you go down you are pretty much dead because if your teammate comes to save you, who’s going to make a diversion so he won’t also die ?

4. More players doesn’t mean harder. Past a certain number difficulty is only a matter of communication. Just look at any meta group events : tons of players, more than half not knowing the mechanics and bashing their heads against the boss, but they still win the fight in the end, sometime without even dying.

5. Due to the nature of combat in GW2, they won’t be able to develop AI that’s intelligent enough to know when to save you, when to dodge, when not to attack, which skills to use and when.

Solo dungeons didn’t fail in Guildwars 1 (they were very popular) why would they then fail in Guildwars 2…

Yes they would just scale down the mobs and difficulty and then make the bosses vets… Similar to jump puzzle mobs..

3 months later xD

I’m having a bit of trouble remembering solo dungeons in GW1. I remember solo missions and Keiran’s missions. And they were made for only one player in mind.

Jump puzzle mobs do not scale, or barely at all. And scaling bosses to veteran would make everything trivial….if you can’t even kill a veteran on your own, you have some problems >.>

GW2 has the worst community because everything can be achieved even if you play terribly bad, with the lowest dps possible, at range, with 5 staff guardians using full PVT gear and turn a 15 minutes run into a 1 hour long run. This game needs a mechanic akin to “enrage” timers. In MMO with enrage timers if you don’t perform the boss will wipe the group. It exists precisely because you shouldn’t be able to complete content just sitting on the bunkiest build spamming your autoattack and heal at range.

Every single end boss in this game should have it seeing how this community tends to perform.

What GW1 had was more drastic : wipes. If your entire team dies, you are kicked from the instance. That was during release of course, then Anet became soft and allowed players to revive until everyone got 60% Death Penalty and then kick them. But then they introduced items that removed DP from yourself and then from everyone…making some runs last more than 3 hours :/

Another thing in GW2 that is not helping the players is that it’s sometime hard to realize how bad you are. And by “bad” I don’t mean dying from time to time, it can happen. I mean using useless or at least not great weapons/skills, awful positioning and either dodging too much or wondering how you dodge in this game…And when those players who are kind of bad find a good team, they think that everything is fine : monsters are going down, people aren’t dying (too much) but what they don’t know is that the run could be better…

I don’t mean that everyone should be a berserker warrior. Play what fits your playstyle…but honestly, how does using a scepter as a guardian fits any kind of playing style ?
This isn’t a jab at Cameirus. But these days, most guardians I end up with use their scepter with a shield (blowing all monsters away of course) and sometime use their staff…What the hell is up with that ? If you want to play support, bring a hammer and some shouts, but stop throwing blue bubbles at monsters.
Or a Warrior using a riffle all the time : why play a warrior to use a riffle ? I’m sure the engineer can fill your needs.

(And I even want to say that as Ranger you should melee because more damage, but if you play a ranger, it’s probably because you want to shoot some arrows, so I’m letting this one slip).

What needs to happen is to make the system more solid to make exploits a lot less easy to pull off (although I can imagine this being quite difficult to fix). The harder it is to exploit, the less people will try it. Up the dungeon rewards to match the time + risks vs. rewards ratio (and/or lower open world rewards). Have less annoying mobs that use constant CC spam on players and have less HP. Have bosses with more interesting mechanics.

Look at AC. Bosses got new mechanics, monsters have less health and I think that making players carry skills against CC is a good thing.
And what changed ? Almost nothing : everything is still skipped, and players try to exploit bosses.
Oh and because players aren’t bothering to try to understand the new mechanics, they complain that some bosses cannot be beaten without exploiting.

The problem with monsters health is that you have to find the middle ground between 4 Berserker Warriors + 1 Mesmer and a team with Rangers, Necromancers and Engineers in it, and some of them not at level 80 with full exotics/ascended, because no matter how great the boss’ mechanics are, if he dies in 8 seconds, it doesn’t matter.

I just wished Anet was a little faster to fixing some exploits, especially when some “simply” require to remove a boulder, or add one to block the path.

Exploiting or cheap tactics annoy me to the extent that if I’m not with 2 other guildies I won’t even bother joining a PuG for any dungeons.

It’s not that I like to play fair, it’s that I like to do things efficiently. And doing an exploit with a PuG won’t be smooth : some members won’t know the exploit, some won’t want to do it, taking away more time than if it had been done normally.

Then there are those cheap tactics/exploits against bosses…Just melee the boss instead of shooting your puny arrows. It’s like with Frost…just run around him in melee range, it’s way easier than trying to run around him from afar. Oh that’s right, PuGs tend to range him on the boulder.
“But I’ll die if I try to melee” well we all died when we started playing, but some of us learned the mechanics, dodge and use the necessary skills for surviving while killing the boss. And when players exploit, they learn nothing at all. Or worse, some warriors think that a riffle is a good choice every time, no matter what his team is fighting.

Dungeons can be incredibly easy and smooth. But some PuGs that got bored of bashing their head against a monster/boss like idiots, decided that exploiting was the only reasonable solution, making those incredibly easy dungeons a pain to do.

However skipping mobs isn’t an exploit. If Anet wants us to kill every monsters, they would be clear about it.
