That’s a great question OP!
Why is there an exchange differance? If I exchange dollars to euros then back again, if there’s no fee, I should get the exact amount back I started with.

Not the best example because you the exchange rate between $ and € isn’t equal.

I reccomend they set up some in game voting systems, tie it to the black lion trading post, since that appears to be fairly web based. Every couple of months players could vote on the best concept designs. They can also add new unseen armors so everything isnt predictable, and also not just the most popular, but at least 1 set during a time frame would probably be appealing to most players.

Remember the Ellen Kiel vs Evon <3 vote ? Yeah I don’t want to deal with that. And with the amount of trolls, the votes will be worse. And everything looks good on concept art, but then Anet puts it in the game…
I’m “fine” with armors I don’t like as long as once in a while there’s one I like. Sadly this day has yet to come.

And then there’s all the armor from GW1 that was or wasn’t used and the armors in GW2 that shouldn’t have been available to us yet it isn’t, which makes the whole situation even more annoying.

Yay shoulders, aqua masks, helms, gauntlets and backpacks that generally don’t mix well with anything else (kind of like the chaos gloves in GW1).

However, gem store armor, for anyone who played GW1 think about that : if you wanted a 15k you had to farm. 60 k + mats didn’t miraculously appear in your storage without farming. Just like 800 gems don’t. My main complaint (aside that I don’t really like what was released) is that you have to buy the whole sets even if you are interested in only one or two pieces.

But then, when I see what we are going to get…Yep we’ll have new armor sets, too bad they don’t look good.

Who cares ? It’s not like this is going to make them change their design for armors. “It might impact future designs !” yeah…light armor finally got another pair of pants without a skirt attached to it after 15 months of complaints…oh wait.
But then again, if the pair of pants we finally get is a pair of skin tight leggings, I’d rather have a skirt without a pair of pants underneath this time.

Lastly, all you’re doing is knit picking bad examples of GW1 quest rewards and ignoring the fantastic ones such as new skills and spells. That’s not a nice thing to do.

Because they were the exception and farm from the norm. Only quests in Prophecies and EotN gave you skills. And only a few quests had any nice monetary reward.

But that’s not the problem : at least they had different rewards. When I do an event that takes me 10 minutes, where I can fail if I mess up, and get the same reward than an event I could have done in less than 3, something’s missing.
DE’s unlock new merchant too, have you ever looked carefully at what they sold ? It’s beyond terrible. Not only does it costs gold, but you can find a counterpart (sometime better even) with the nearest Heart. Sure there are a few exceptions that sell fun items (experimental riffle), but most of them sell you completely useless items.

Can enemies kill you if you don’t move ? If no you are exploiting.

Stacking isn’t an exploit. You can achieve the same by pulling monsters, but guardians seem to prefer to use something else than a greatsword these days (mostly a scepter with a shield and then use skill number 5 to “protect” the team).

Unfortunately doing things like that, people don’t learn. And thus they keep being bad.

That’s because he isn’t cut out to play GW2. You know why hearts were put in the game ? Because during the first tests, the players didn’t know what to do. Anet had to modify their idea because the players that wanted to explore didn’t want to do it without directions, they wanted to be guided through.

Now that the game is released I also don’t really want to explore, but not because I don’t have directions. Because after wasting hours and hours on finding nothing at all, I don’t see why I should continue to bother exploring something when there’s nothing to explore (I’m exaggerating a little).

Anyone think that maybe different stat combos will have different looks?!

I hope so, but unfortunately when you preview them the pieces aren’t from the same stat sets yet they go with each other too well for different sets to exists.

All respects to people who like the skins. Hopefully future skins will have a darker tone, medieval, norse, etc. (my preference)
Even more out of the box would be early Native Indians light/medium skins. But this reminds me of the late renaissance era of europe, especially spain.

It’s not the theme or whether it has too much going on or not (although in some cases it’s part of the problem). It’s the number of layers, the turtle necks, the lack of femininity for female armors (I’m not asking for for a plungin low cut or a mini skirt, but this http://wiki.guildwars.com/images/e/e5/Elementalist_Elite_Canthan_armor_f.jpg looks better)…and on the other end : my guardian will now have very long legs, too bad he’s going to appear kind of out of shape. Oh and the thing in the middle of the legs…they won’t look worse without it.
However, the male light set isn’t bad. Except for the turtle neck.

“Unfortunately” GW2 is a living world. Which something a lot of players wanted. What a lot of them didn’t realize is that this means that sometime you won’t have anything to do in a specific zone.

If you really think about it, they didn’t mess it up too much. Most DE’s give you a gist of what’s happening in each zones and you get too see those events unfold before and after.

However there are technical limitations : events in low level zones (Queensdale) respawn really fast to allow new players to enjoy them without having too wait too long, which might annoy your immersion (if you are the type to get annoyed easily). And in higher level zones the problem is that the waiting time between events in chain can sometime be more than 5 minutes…yes even 5 minutes is a long time to stand still in place, especially when you don’t know if something is going to appear and nothing hints at it (no NPC running around, no dialogue box telling you something is coming up).

Also, some event chains can’t be done by yourself because there’s probably an annoying champion and the end of it.

And finally, the reward factor simply is missing for a lot of them. And I’m not only talking about monetary rewards. For example, can someone tell me what’s the point of “The Kodan Claw” meta event ?

However while I know there are no events that take you from one zone to another, I think you can find little hints here and there. But honestly, I didn’t explore enough to know that for sure, because wandering around alone gets annoying after 15 minutes.

where is that in game? (even if not available, that blows out of the water pretty much every piece of light armour they have released so far)

Countess Anise wears an altered version of the first one (she has different leggings) while the second one can be seen around Divinity’s Reach. And in case anyone is wondering they were supposed to be worn by our character too : in the mesmer preview video you can see one wearing the the first one.

I just hope that the next time ANet stop being cheapskates and hire real designers instead of college interns

A college intern would have done something simpler. It would have looked less “epic” (I guess if you want to call it that) but at least it would have probably looked better…but hardly worse.

And the ascended weapons aren’t ugly. There are so many weapon skins, with big showy effects that they feel kind of too simple for ascended weapons.

And what bothers me the most? It says in the preview that these armors were made in the style of famous Luxon and Kurzick armourers. That’s an insult to both factions! They look nothing like those famous sets!

That can’t be true…you and other people who heard this must have misunderstood…Both the Kurzick and Luxon light armor were among my favorite designs. You can’t look at this http://wiki.guildwars.com/images/2/29/Necromancer_Elite_Luxon_armor_f.jpg and think it looks like what we’ll have in a few weeks/months.

However, this one : http://img11.hostingpics.net/pics/9451224BG24.png was clearly inspired by this http://wiki.guildwars.com/images/d/d4/Mesmer_Elite_Kurzick_armor_f.jpg, yet we still aren’t allowed to have it.

I don’t think this thread contains one piece of constructive criticism so far all. What looks bad about them? What specifically do you not like? What would make it look better?

“Armor is ugly because ugly” is honestly a worthless post and anet will just ignore the feedback because it isn’t offering a single thing of value.

It’s been more than one year (since the first BWE actually) that I and many others created dozens of threads complaining about armor designs. Since then not a single set seemed to take those critics into account. It doesn’t however mean that all the armor they have released (2×3 sets) are particularly ugly. For example I kind of like the feathered light armor, because unlike a lot of other skirt, it actually compliments the wearers body instead of making it look like your character has an behind that isn’t harmonious with her body. Nonetheless, it’s not a pant like armor.

So I don’t know, if the company who gave us simple and elegant designs like virtualy any armor in GW1 can’t even get half of their sets correctly, there’s an underlying problem.

Edit : Oh btw they can :

I actually hoped at least one of those were going to be ascended models…

Well, I suppose the best explanation is best skins are now gem store purchases.

If it was the case at least I’ll be annoyed by having to farm more to get better skins, which we did in GW1 to get 15k.

So I have to join a gigantic guild and guest on another server to do this? It’s ridiculous. Each individual server should have the resources to pull this off. This is a game design failure.

It’s not like guesting costs anything and you can have multiple guilds.

And to pull what off ? To pull more than 150 players in a single zone fighting in the same event ? There comes a moment when it stops being a server problem and it starts being a personal computer problem. The fight already suffers problems due to dozens of animations going off every second….even good computers have a more or less big FPS drop.
Or did you mean that each server should be able to kill it ? Well technically, they can. Whether players from a particular server want to try to do it and are competent is a different issue.

SAB part 1 didn’t have a lot of mandatory jumps. Of those jumps, very few needed fast reflexes and only a few of them were somewhat hard (out of achievements).
Also you could always find a team to carry you all the way to the end.

The first world in SAB was easier than nearly every jumping puzzle because you didn’t have to wonder “can I even jump there ?” or “wait…is that a texture bug or am I supposed to go there ?”

The second world seemed harder though.

But let’s not forget : Baby mode. Yes the rewards aren’t the same, but you aren’t doing the same “work” as those playing in Normal mode.

Don’t give up on Jumping Puzzles. Practice practice practice, because Anet won’t stop putting them in the game.

Why does a cap make a student more or less able to get enough materials? Without a cap the student should be able to get enough materials. The only difference is that everyone else isn’t relegated to putting in the amount of time/effort that the student puts in.

Students can have irregular play time. The might be able to play 1 hour/day for a week then nothing for nearly 3 weeks and play all day during the last week-end.

However in the end, if we take charged quartz as an example, it takes less than 5 minutes to launch the game and get it. If you have at least 10 minutes (which anyone can get) isn’t a problem to obtain your charged quartz (as long as you have the necessary materials).

Or they could do a weekly cap, instead of daily.

A monthly cap would be even better.
That way people with really irregular playing times (like say, a student) will be able to get enough materials.
But then again…we aren’t talking about time gating a dungeon or an event…they are time gating transforming a T6 material to a T7…Unlike dailies which can take some amount of time, getting a charged quartz takes less than 5 minutes. This kind of time gating isn’t even asking us to play the game, it’s just incredibly annoying.

Doing the same for champion loot would make the “hidden” or “hard” events more rewarding. At the same time, I’d suggest lowering the loot of champions freshly spawned to limit their farming (but I’m gonna get a lot of flak for that).

That would be something smart. Or lower the quality of the box based on the amount of time the champion was alive. Start with nothing, then white then upgrade it with each passing minutes. That way less people will mindlessly zerg and instead they’ll dispatch through out the world.
Even if someone makes a huge route going across zones to quickly farm them, it would be more fun than trying to hit an invisible foe.

So let’s see how the price of materials have gone through the roof since the update, by comparing the prices between August 5 and today :
Charged Core : 96 silver, now 83 silver (kind of a bumpy graph)
Charged Lodestone : 2g64s to 2g35s
Globs : 19s to 24s
Giant Eyes : 73s to 74s
Crystalline Dust : 11s to 15s
T6 Blood : 32s to 34s
T6 Claws : 15s to 11s
Dye : 19s to 21s

Point of this : prices dropped a little for materials that could be found more easily during this event (certain T6, some lodestones). The other materials which didn’t have an increase in drop rates didn’t see their price go through to roof.
Exotics and rare ? Players are getting them by the truckload…that won’t increase their price on the TP…just look at the new weapon skins and how some sellers are eager to cut down the price just to be sure to sell their item. In just a day, Entropy dropped from 400g to 189g and now it’s at 43g…

If you fight Troop commander Kaeyi and Tazza at the same time, as it’s intended by anet, you get loot from both of them. A friend insisted on killing both the last time i did SE P1, so that’s why i know.

That’s incredibly weird. Because that’s what we did. We only got something from the champion.
I don’t remember which one we killed first, but I doubt Anet would bother to put something like : you must kill Kaeyi first if you want a blue from Tazza (back when Kaeyi was added).
