The way I see it, this is the issue right now with dungeons:

If you want to play ranged, just shoot away at whatever the main target is and throw a few dodge rolls in when you’re in a red circle.

I haven’t played melee in dungeons yet but that is the impression im getting >.<

Melee’s has to move when it’s attacking too though. It does wonders when I play my guardian and theif, and just run circles around mobs.

The problem is, holding Mouse2+D and moving the mouse to the left constantly is not skill. And you’ll find out that becomes MUCH harder to do in dungeons when mobs do way more damage and last longer….oh and they only go for you because you’re closer.

Not trying to be a smart@ss or anything but melee PvE in GW2 leaves very little room for error in dungeons. (which I personally enjoy…to a point)

I’d venture to say that’s where most of your “this is too hard” posts are coming from. People who play more melee-built classes.

Here’s a quick way to find out if it’s player skill or the player’s choices. How many of you that find dungeons fun are playing ranged builds and how many play melee builds?

There’s a massive difference in PvE difficulty between the two in GW2 and its worth getting specific feedback based on the way you’ve chosen to play. Adjustments may need to be made, but nothing can be done if things aren’t put into context.

You have to remember, these traits were previously chosen on a per-weapon basis. A lot of the “(x) weapon recieves (y)” traits could have been chosen for each individual weapon but the player would have forgone more general (and possibly more effective) traits for a particular build.

The Warrior was hurt the most by the trait system change from weapon to character because of his early design and how they worked traits into each weapon. This would have meant that classes like the Warrior had more customization than other classes that didn’t have nearly as many weapons to choose from.

I’m not saying the current trait system is bad. Its actually a step-up from where the previous configuration was (before BWEs). It’s not without its flaws, however, and the Warrior feels the hurt more than anyone else. He’s a class designed to use many different weapons with a trait system designed to pigeonhole you into using only a couple.

The undead runes give you 5% toughness as condition damage, so yes, it does.

You’re not reading that right.

5% of your Toughness stat is added to your Condition Damage stat… or Malice if you prefer.

Toughness does not reduce damage taken by conditions.

This is actually a good idea for expansion content.

What they SHOULD be doing in expansions is adding weapon skill-sets. In other words, all weapons have one set of skills right now. When they expand the game, they should add another FULL set of skills to each weapon available.

So you could have two of the same exact set of weapons with two totally different 1-5 skill sets.

The only way it would be balanced is if they let you choose an entire set of skills instead of swapping each one out individually. It’s already hard enough finding OP combinations let alone ones that they introduce by letting people mix/match multiple weapon skills individually.

Not feeling the Thief in PvP: Far too focused on cookiecutter builds.

Most classes can build for high mobility and the Mesmer is no exception. It depends on the weapons, traits, and utilities you bring. With the exception of probably the Guardian…

However, nobody can match the thief’s shortbow shadowstep spam. The only time thieves can ever get away from my warrior after theykitten themselves is if they whip out their shortbow.

guys im a thief myself too and ive been playing a backstabber since the beginning, i love it. But even i can see that this is probably not intended… the burst you pull of is riddicolous. My gear is not even full exotic at this point…

Edit: I dont wanna start a flame war … just voicing my opinion on this build that is going around these days …

You don’t need zerk gear to do this. Valk gear gives just as much crit damage and adds a good amount of HP.

The problem is Backstab getting an obscene ‘to hit’ bonus from being behind the target. That, plus 100% crit chance from Hidden Killer trait.

From the skill’s description, I don’t think its right. I think its getting the ‘back’ damage ADDED to the ‘front’ damage from behind…or something…

Can we get some more realistic top end weapon skins?

Anyway, if we can stop talking about realism in a video game for a second, I would agree with the OP that we need more “normal” looking Greatswords in this game.

It seems to be in most games that they enjoy turning a large, straight blade into some sort of weird, misshapen, ugly-as-f* object that doesn’t fit well with any style of armor. Now why in the hell is that?

I’m taking this directly from what I’ve seen in the LOTRO forums. Every so often, a moderator would post a 3-question Q/A for the community to answer in their own way in order to get specific feedback. How likely would it be to see something like this on the GW2 forums?

They could be things like (where x is obviously the topic at hand):

  1. How does ‘x’ help you as a player? How does it hurt?
  2. Where is the one place where ‘x’ needs the most work/attention?
  3. If there was one feature you would add to ‘x’, what would it be?

Then, just insist that the players respond only to the questions, not other posts, and answer them in a 1, 2, 3 fashion without going overboard. Tell them to be specific.

I am absolutely NOT trying to tell any moderators or community feedback organizers how to do their job. You’ve all been doing just fine as far as I’m concerned. I know you guys at Anet do your best to read new threads and listen to the majority of community feedback. This suggestion is merely to help consolidate feedback on specific issues at hand and only if you don’t already have your own special way of doing it that works just fine for your needs.

I’m trying to figure out of the posters complaining about the nerf in this thread built their entire character around this, or if they’re just looking for something to complain about.

Useless trait, the change isn’t game breaking, how often are you jumping off cliffs and REQUIRING that stealth buff anyways. =P

Its simple:

If they built their characters around it, they were abusing the stealth aspect. If they didn’t, they’re complaining for no reason other than complaining.

There’s hardly ever a case where you can take falling damage while ambushing someone as an offensive tactic (I’ve never seen one but I’m sure people will find one and it will be nerfed). There are definitely areas you can take falling damage and use the trait to survive…but when you do, you’d better not be fighting anyone anyway.

And in before “All exotic gear” comments:
I did Zealot/Plunderer HotW Explorable in almost all greens and no gems in most of my gear, AND it was explorer’s gear. Rest of my party was new to the dungeon as well save for one person farming it. So…anyone who claims “blah blah ALL EXOTIC blah blah SO HARD” is really pushing it nowadays.

And what was their gear like? Did they pick up your slack?

Oh wait. You don’t know because they were randoms and a farmer. And chances are the farmer had pretty good gear.

I’ve identified 3 key complaints here after mucking through the p!issing contest that is the Thief forum and wish to identify them as they are game-wide:

  1. Stationary objects are bugged. Some of them will cause melee to miss unless they are physically moving through the world (W, A, S, D)
  2. All ‘move to target’ skills have an issue when the target changes direction multiple times or doubles back on its path. This is not a Heartseeker-specific issue.
  3. All ‘leap’ type skills leap directly toward the target with no regard for ‘z’ axis. This is not a Heartseeker-specific issue.

Hope this helps when using HS in the future. I’m sure there will be many patches to come in a slow-fix process.

Judging by the fact that nearly all thieves that use Pistol Whip extensively have all logged on to say that they’re skilled players for spamming one skill and winning fights, I’d say its time for another Heartseeker nerf…I mean…Pistol Whip nerf.

No skill that does this should ever stun. Especially not one from a stealth class.

Just sayin.

The reason they have price floors is for exactly what they do. They keep people from purchasing under vendor price from other players who are just clearing out inventory space and end up selling garbage for less than vendor price. The players buying it end up with an easy way to make money off of the mistakes of others who are not watching; or out of pure convenience. The trading post becomes a mobile trash vendor.

Not saying you can’t already use the trading post on the go; and you can trade your way to the top if you watch closely and buy/sell according to peak times and such. They’re just trying to keep the gold inflation to a minimum. If you force players to manage inventory space and stop to sell to vendors, you slow the progress of gold creation.

Well we don’t want to turn everyone’s [Map] and [Team] chat into a reddit forum now do we?

The best idea would be to have chat logging software that kicks back odd messages in [Map] and [Team] when they’re repeated 2-3 times within 10 minutes. That way, someone can evaluate and suspend/ban where appropriate.

I’m not sure why none of these companies do this. Is it too hard to pick out these messages:

Most RPGs have a first-person view for the exact reason mentioned above. Odd camera angles.

I’m sure the devs at Anet didn’t want to make a first-person view for fear of it being criticized as sub-par when compared to games such as Elder Scrolls.

But listen guys, if those people want a tailored FP-RPG, they can go play Elder Scrolls. Just put in ‘classic’ first-person view like any other MMO that doesn’t do anything outside of zooming you in to ‘head’ level.

Here’s a few ideas to help this situation:

Following: Players following a particular character should not be following the entire account, only that character. Once the player is accepted as a friend, the account is added normally.

You can currently block players that are following you because you are given a list of followers. In my opinion, it shouldn’t be the player’s responsibility to block/disable functionality for each person individually trying to track you.

Log-in: Players should be allowed to log in anonymously so as not to be shown to followers. This should also disable tells, invites, updates, requests, etc when they are made towards the player.

Shouldn't "Earth Attunement" be called "Tyria Attunement"?

It depends entirely on what type of damage you are trying to mitigate. Conditions ignore Toughness, so if you’re in a PvP situation and you’re trying to survive bleeds and poisons, Vitality will do you better. If you’re in PvE and you’re trying to not get 2 shot, Toughness plays a larger roll mitigating big single target hits.

Ideally you want to mix both to be well-rounded, which is what the game is all about. You don’t want just a bunch of one and none of the other. That’s no bueno.

If you’re going after conditions, you want CONDITION REMOVAL skills. You can’t stack vitality and expect that to be a defense against conditions. Conditions do more than just DPS you down, they hamper you in many ways as well. Vitality is your life bar. Once it goes to zero, regardless of how it got there, you’re down. Actually removing the 25 stacks of bleed is going to help you more than having 1 extra second of living while its on you.

Toughness does not mitigate big hits more than anything else. There’s an equation to Toughness that people haven’t found yet and Anet is being very mysterious about. The original idea about Toughness was that it was going to mitigate small hits more than big ones…that has since been tossed.

Its this simple, you get more out of Toughness if you build for healing (traits, skills, etc) and you get more out of Vitality if you build for damage.

According to my experience (as well as the wiki), Compassion adds as a 1:1 ratio on your USAGE of the heal skill (pressing 6…or whatever key you use), it adds ~12.5% of the value to the Regeneration boon, and it adds ~6.5% value to class-based passive HoTs.

As far as other ‘on use’ heals from traits (shouts, rolls, meditations, etc) I’m not sure. It has been nerfed on some effects over the course of testing though.

I’d just like to point out that anyone with weapon sets is heavily reliant on switching weapons. If you’ve got the ability to swap sets in combat, you should always have a two-set setup tailored to your current build. The warrior is not the only one who gains an extra 5 skills (6 counting adrenaline burst) from switching the main hand.

Classes which do not swap weapons have other ways of changing out the main hand skills in combat. Not to mention they have the opportunity for more than 10 (or 12) main skills in combat.

Unless they’ve changed it, all swap runes share a 9 second cooldown regardless of type, weapon set, and which hand you put it in.

Guaranteed crit only happens for the next HIT. One hit. It is sophisticated enough to calculate individual hits per skill.

I’ve been server hopping and i noticed that there are alot of servers out there that are up by 100k + or more. It sucks to be winning that much because well theres no competition. Why don’t the winning servers out there transfer to another server thats losing and help that server out. This would help out alot of the whining thats been going on and people will have more fun.

Or they could just stay where they are and let the ranking system match them up against more appropriate opponents next week. You know, like the way its supposed to work.

Unless there’s more than an even server match-up and one highly occupied server gets thrown in the next tier down with two servers that are below it. Or one server of a lower tier gets bumped into a higher category because they’re the ‘odd man out’ at the top, but are not near as high in overall population as the others they’re matched against.

Its not always going to be an evenly matched 1v1v1. That’s part of the problem with their current system.

They just need a pop cap based on the number of players currently in WvW the lowest pop server in the match has. They should do that NOW while server transfers are free and that would help to even out the player base.

The allergy many people seem to have regarding stealth is very hypocritical when many of those same people insist on embracing other ‘tropes’ associated with other professions.

Thieves are meant to fight in a dirty manner and most of their abilities follow that theme. Though I worry that if we did get a more in-depth stealth system it would lead to adjustments elsewhere.

It’s just a shame that so many of the nay-sayers are the same people who aren’t likely to even play the class in question. Hopefully Arena Net take their thoughts with a hefty pinch of salt!

Knee-jerk reaction of assassin/rogue/thief class players in all games is to “hit the invis button” before entering a fight. Once they break out of this, they realize that the only things long duration invis is used for is either ganking other players or getting around mobs you’re not meant to get around.

There’s a new bug with Rush. If you use “Rush” on a large target, you end up running in place next to the target for the duration of the skill and never swinging.

Yeah, the Legendary weapons are there as a way for people to consume large amounts of wealth/time for bragging rights.

Its basically there for the guys who absolutely must have the best available at any cost and have the lifelessness to do it.

Never said that people won’t get there eventually given enough time. Anyone can get there given enough time. This mechanic was put in the game so that people who care so much about grinding gear that they spend TONS of time on the game getting it have something a little more difficult to go after. Those people, yes, usually have no life outside of the game.

No, talking to your “friends” on Ventrilo doesn’t count as socializing (not you personally Tradewind…just in case you misread that one).

It’s that generic model yellow from story mode.

This is the same story mode after the patch. I’ll give you what you say about story mode before the patch.
And the fact is, i was helping for the fun of it, the reduced reward is a bit of a bummer but oh well, but the addition of more champion mobs and more elites means this is not fun gameplay for people new to dungeons. being constantly stunned and being able to do nothing about it is not fun. A lot of time was spent replacing frustrated players because the difficulty was ramped up.

What i’m saying is less reward or more difficult. Pick one but dont pick them both!

I haven’t played Caudecus’ Manor story mode since the patch so I can’t comment on what the difficulty is now, but before the patch the story mode was pretty much a joke in terms of difficulty. In this one case I do think an increase in difficulty was warranted, though I can’t say if perhaps ANet overtuned it.

First successful time through CM in story mode we under-geared it with 3 players.

Yeah, in comparison, it wasn’t up to ‘par’. I think Anet’s idea of ‘par’ on a story mode dungeon is a little excessive though.
