They gave us great variety…as promissed. If the time comes I stop finding ways to have fun, I’ll stop playing. I won’t remember the stuff I didn’t do, Just the fun I had playing the game the way I wanted to play it.

judgung by that snipit of dialogue, they gave the people what they want.

If you assume the entire server population is those 15 players, and don’t count the ones who log in, stare at that depressing spectacle for 5 minutes, and then just close the game and go do something more productive with their lives.

You probably also think that WoW’s player base was exclusively composed of people who treated others like disposable “assistants” even before the Dungeon Finder was introduced.

I made absolutely zero claims about or referances to wow or wow players in my post. I also prefixed it with “judging by that snipit of dialogue”.

they gave us countless things to do to make a game where you don’t really have to grind gear in dungeons…but all anyone wants to do is grind gear in dungeons. So they gave us that too.

Can’t blame anet for that.

Was World of Tanks ‘pay to win’ or “pay to not grind your kitten off” or pay for better looking tanks, decals, stuff like that? How did the game fair? This is an honest question, not rhetorical. I’ve never played it.

mostly it was pay to not grind your kitten off.

trade off was guys who bought their way up the tiers had way less skill on average than those who ground it out playing 4 times as many battles.

You could either play 200 battles in a tank to earn the next one, or pay money to unlock your free xp and do it in 50. There were cash only tanks, but they we’re generaly lower stats than their regular counterparts but earned you more credits Which also excelerated the grind. for the next tank. The tanks have 10 tiers andnone of the cash only tanks came higher than tier 8.

i sunk a ton of money into a f2p game for a while. world of tanks. probably spent at least 50 bucks a month on that game for 8 straight months and had a ton of fun with it. There were also people who never spent a dime on the game that consistantly kicked my kitten. They had fun too. Everybody won.

I fail to see why cash shops upset people.

It’s not pay to win unless you can buy better stuff than you can get free. Time=Money. If the gem store offered gear with better stats than you could grind for, then it would be pay to win.

I see nothing wrong with being able to buy stuff that can also be obtained by grinding as long as the cost reflects the difficulty of the grind.

Likely not a mistake. More likely it was just displayed as New Krytan as that was the alphabet they had on hand. It gives it easter egg value as it can be translated by players, which is more fun than just making it out of jibberish symbols, and saves the hassel of creating a whole new alphabet and seeding it into the world to write something that will receive little more than a glance to 99% of players.

" The arena was knocked down to make way for something"

That could be a very good solution, although when those events are mentioned it sounds like a good money making business for Lion’s arch since people around Tyria come to visit LA just for that arena.

Then again we already lost the Lion statue and now the observation tower. I just thought I would put it out there and see if anybody had an answer.

The mists are where we battle for competition in gw. The battles there would be vastly more glorious than what took place in an arena. Lions arch probably still generates a ton of money and draws a lot of visitors to town because of the gates. They didn’t give up a source of revenue…they took it to a whole new level.

we don’t need to do anything to change it. we aren’t responsible for content developement or corperate decisions at ANET. They make us an offer, we accept it or go elsewhere.

The only people who have anything invested in the success or faliure of this game are ANET employees.

How does Guild Wars 2 make money?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Rehashed Jibe Tube.7102

Rehashed Jibe Tube.7102

I can’t believe anyone would drop money in this game for gems. You get everything you need just from playing the game, there is absolutely no reason to buy gems.

If you are dropping $50/month into this game when it isn’t needed, perhaps you should give some of that wasted money to charity.

I find it sick how some players can proudly boast how much they spend in the gem store. Like most players, I haven’t spent a dime in the gem store and never intend to.

I don’t spend a lot in the gem store. But i have bought gems. It’s simply a matter of time vs money. I can spend 10 bucks (which is 15 minutes wages) and buy 5 hours worth of farmings gold.

I wouldn’t spend anywhere near 50 bucks a month, but I will spend a little here and there to cut the grind.

What a "casual" player really is, in my view

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Rehashed Jibe Tube.7102

Rehashed Jibe Tube.7102

i have my own deffinition. I am casual because I won’t commit to anything.

I may play for 2 hours straight, but I won’t set aside 2 hours to run a dungeon.

I may joint a guild, but i won’t promiss to be there at 9pm eastern every tuesday and thursday for my scheduled dungeon/wvwvw duities.

I may play in spvp but i won’t study the meta game and search out the best possible character/team builds to compete.

But I play for probably 2 hours on the typical week night and lots more on the weekends.

I put in the same amount of time as many hard core gamers. But I have vastly different priorities than many of them do.

literal answer:

that most of the player base isn’t nearly as passionate about time travel as you are, and that nostalgia is fun.

lore answer:

maybe the mists are the safety net here. you’re esentially seeing an alternate version of past events rather than altering the one in our reality?

In 4 years of playing gw i never did a dungeon after sorrows furnace. i’ll probably never see the inside of the bulk of the dungeons in gw2. never sauw the depths. Spent maybe 20 minutes in the fissure of woe once and wasted 1k to catch a 3 second glimps of under world. But I played the game for 4 years cause there was lots of other stuff to do

gated content is fine. I don’t need to open THAT gate. as long as there is also enough new content placed “outside the gate” for those of us who aren’t interested in the grind they can make 1 dungeon fort knox for all i care

There are a few in each orr zone that are walled in and less frequently contested than others. you really have to slowely and diliberately move through orr if you’re going it solo because you may have to start way back at the beginning. The pale tree is stationary. The sylvari are created as drones to allow the pale tree to interact with the world. It’s not much different than ants or bees. What produces the seeds that make the pale trees themselves is the bigger question.

I honestly think this problem will erode itself as they add utility/elite/healing skills with future content.

The weapon skills aren’t as restrictive as people claim given the wide variety of weapon combos we have.

the problem is the second part of the skill bar, the one we CAN customize just doesn’t have as deep of an effect on our game as it should.

A question for Guild Wars 1 players

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Rehashed Jibe Tube.7102

i played all of the gw1 campains and didn’t pay any attention to the story. by the end of eye of the north most of the lore was still just fluff to me. I loved the mechanics and the game play but didn’t read a kitten thing that came up in a dialogue box. I just wasn’t interested.

Gw2 came out and for some reason this time around I did decide I wanted to know. the lore is very rich and I found myself wondering a lot of things as well. I started going between the lore forums here and a lot of looking up characters and places on the wiki’s for gw1 and gw2 and I think i’m fairly up to date.

Why is this relevant? because the games are so different that going back and playing the first one because you fell in love with tyria playing gw2 might not be as simple as it seems. They are very different games with very complicated plot lines and hundreds of hours of content.

If all you’re after is the back story and lore playing GW1 may not be the easiest way to get there.

There might be a few scraps here and there, but for the most part history has forgotten old “whats his name? that guy that was always in the way when we were trying to see mhenlo”.

It fits well lore wise. Whoever you contracted to look after your legacy after you died laughed all the way to the bank.
