GW2 has an economist hired to help spearhead any changes to the game. The sole purpose of this person is to work out how to make you spend money on gems. Viola the reasoning behind most of your changes. Everything now involves grinding for gold. The easiest way to grind is to buy gems.
Anet lied (where’s the Manifesto now?)
I don’t think we are balanced when we only have 1 effective build for each game mode.
Changes over the last year have not created any build diversity.
Anet lied (where’s the Manifesto now?)
I was hoping to start playing again but am in the same boat as the op. Nothing at all added to enhance gameplay.
Anet lied (where’s the Manifesto now?)
I would like to be able to select a weapon type, armor type and amulet type so I have some build diversity.
I would like combat to consist of more than dodging big circles on points and spraying my own circles at people.
Fix these 2 things and pvp will be quite a bit better.
Anet lied (where’s the Manifesto now?)
PvP is too messy for complete stranger to watch. If u dont know alot of the game the fights only look like bunch of aoe rings and particles popping all around, its not really entertaining.
Complexity? Nope. Every team is the same, everyone uses the same meta builds, every build is spam 1-2 skills to win. Only complex part is how the teams decide to rotate around points and thats just about it. This game would need so much more diversity on builds / team comps to be interesting to watch.
I haven’t found a game that wasn’t “messy” for new players to watch.
This is the messiest game I have every played. There is no flow to it.
Anet lied (where’s the Manifesto now?)
Its Mace Skill 1 that should have its timers reduced.
But lets be honest. I doubt they are ever going to do anything to improve this class noticeably.
Anet lied (where’s the Manifesto now?)
Boring. I am not sure how but Anet seems to make the class more boring with every patch.
Anet lied (where’s the Manifesto now?)
I think the lack of class building is the biggest drawback. It just is not that interesting compared to other games. In their attempt to balance and simplify the game they have made it perhaps the most uninteresting pvp Imhave ever played.
Anet lied (where’s the Manifesto now?)
I would have to agree with a few points, despite the nature of the post:
- the pvp does not have a good rhythm or flow
- the invisibility classes are insanely frustrating
- its very hard to have engaging encounters when the fights are so zergy
Anet lied (where’s the Manifesto now?)
AFter the patch something like this might be quite good. You can take the new Force of Will for an extra 3000 health. Would do some really nice damage and be tanky at the same time.
Anet lied (where’s the Manifesto now?)
I prefer to run shelter but I did not change that for you.
Anet lied (where’s the Manifesto now?)
Man you guys got things so backwards.
Anet does not seem to understand that it is the complexity of builds that gives good pvp longevity. Look at LOL or GW1 and this is what made these games so great. I see no reason to log in after the 15th. The game offers nothing interesting as far as class building goes. Might as well go roam the streets and play rock paper scissors with random people… its the same concept they got going here.
Secondly, they say they are making the change so its more accessible to new players.’ What new players? Games in decline and will continue to decline. People don’t like spvp and it will continue to be a big let down so long as you cated to players that don’t exist.
Let me choose an armor set, jewellery, weapon and give me some diversity.

(edited by Relentliss.2170)
No matter how deep or efficient these skills may be, they will not be enough to keep players interested for too long.
I think the entire post was great.
Guardian’s problem has not been its overall power. Its sat in the middle of the pack since Beta. Its problem is that the gameplay is not fun. I know I grew bored some time ago.
Anet lied (where’s the Manifesto now?)
4) They put Force of Will on Honor line, that increase your Vitality by 300, giving around 3000 hp. That amount of hp can make you think to be good to increase our chances to fight condition damage, or to make dps live longer, but to obtain that trait you need to spent 30 trait points on a defensive trait line and a DPS don’t do that, and if you want to fight condition damage you must chose to 3000 more hp or Pure of Voice, that clean 1 condition whit shouts (2 if combined whit Soldier Rune). And to fight condition damage I prefer Pure of Voice, than 3000 more hp. A good condiiton damage dealer can inflict 1800 condition damage per second. Whit 3000 more hp you can survive 2 seconds more… and I prefer to clean away conditions and reduce to 0 the damage than increase my hp by 3000 ans curvive 2 seconds more.
I think that the trait may work very well in dps builds; usually those builds work around the use of 2-3 meditations, so probably you will not have the luxury to spent a skill slot in a shout to take advantage from Pure Of Voice, and the extra health can be very handly against burst builds. During the last month and half I was using a 10/10/30/20/0 triple meditation build in PvP and was fine, so I think that a X/X/30/30/0 can work.
The other new traits are bad, I agree.
I see Force of Will allowing you to go x/x/30/30/x running meditations and using pvt armor with beserker weapons and trinkets for some nice crit damage and still having a decent health pool. While not a trait I am excited about for standard WvW it might be nice in SPVP or Roaming.

I guess if seeing 90% of guardians reroll warriors or get bored and quit is being in a good spot then yeah we are doing awesome.
Guardian is an average class at best and does not look to be improving much next patch. Simple truths are Guardian is a low health, low mobility class whose class abilities are on some of the most frustratingly long CD given their rather average impact on events in game. Until some of these aspects change, I don’t see guardian being any more fun to play.
Anet lied (where’s the Manifesto now?)
I’ve taken up golf (really).
Seriously, with no rewards any more to log in I see no sense in playing at all. Guess its time for something non-computer related for a while.
Anet lied (where’s the Manifesto now?)
If you just have exotic gear, suggest something like this.
Anet lied (where’s the Manifesto now?)
I assume you are roaming…
Scepter is good. Root them in place to break up their combo then just do your best to keep your distance. Dodge out fo the couple of CC skills silviurscr mentioned. It’s really the opposite of most other classes, in that if you get in close they can finish combos and do way more damage to you than you do to them.
Anet lied (where’s the Manifesto now?)
I am quite happy with many of the rumoured upcoming changes but there are some fundamental flaws to Guardian.
1. Higher base health. This would allow more diverse builds. TBH the game would immediately balance better if everyone had medium health. While I would not describe Guardian as squishy, I never feel overly tanky no matter what spec I run. Nor do I feel in most situations that I can spec for the same dps as a Warrior. You just can not get very creative when in most situations you have to pump a sizable portion of your stat points into health.
2. Virtues. I have seen some awesome suggestions over time for how to rework Virtues so they are more impressive when activated.
3. Movement Speed Signet.
Anet lied (where’s the Manifesto now?)
Zealous Blade should work like a lifesteal and use power. Anyone speccing zeal is not gearing healng power. The gear and the build just do not make sense.
Anet lied (where’s the Manifesto now?)
Not enough health.

There are literally hundreds of ideas on how to restructure the trait lines. Yes some of them might be OP and but there were some real gems. I see no need for further discussion.
I won’t be playing or buying gems till there is a real dialogue about this class in this forum. If the Dev’s don’t take an interest in guardian why should I?
Anet lied (where’s the Manifesto now?)
Total garbage, waste of 25 skill points
As expected.
Anet lied (where’s the Manifesto now?)
This patch is unacceptably lazy and did not take on board one bit of feedback. GJ devs at improving nothing.
Anet lied (where’s the Manifesto now?)
After seeing the lacklustre notes, 6 weeks ago, and the complete lack of attention from the Dev’s our class was recieving discussion wise, I really lost interest in playing. Haven’t logged in in a month.
If the Dev’s are not not interested in Guardian, why should I be?
I am not saying Guardian is bad and needs massive buffs, but it clearly is not going to have many of its annoyances, and in some cases issues, looked at in a meaningful way by this set of Dev’s. They just don’t care.
Anet lied (where’s the Manifesto now?)
BG resorted to buying a win. They got it. Enjoy your lopsided victory.
Anet lied (where’s the Manifesto now?)
I don’t mind Aegis as it is but I can’t work out why VOC is not on a more reasonable CD
Anet lied (where’s the Manifesto now?)
I think the current Tpvp builds for guardian are pretty balanced. In fact, on the small Conquest map Guardian works pretty well. You can hold out for minute in a 2v1, but if help doesn’t come you will eventually die. If they are good players and good counters you will die a lot quicker. That seems balanced to me. Someone who has no damage being able to tank long enough for help to come. An engineer can do pretty much the same thing but dish out considerable damage in the process. And Necro might even kill the two pretty easily.
Our DPS specs seem to be pretty squishy. If you visit the Guardian forum, people are not asking to 1 shot others or other things. They would just like an improvement to soft CC or mobility. Maybe deep in Zeal something that really helps with surviviability if you spec DPS. Thats all. None of these things would affect or improve the builds people currently run for tournaments.
I am not sure why the OP struggled so much. A ranger, the other guy in the equation, that can kite is a very tough opponent for a guardian. Can tear though all the guardians blocks very quickly while kiting and staying at range. Something suggests to me that this guy is a troll.
Anet lied (where’s the Manifesto now?)
Should combine it with the other trait then people might look at it.
Would make a decent GM trait for Zeal as well if combined with the other
Anet lied (where’s the Manifesto now?)
I liked the idea of two buttons one for 5v5 and one for 8v8.
If I had to pick 5v5.
Anet lied (where’s the Manifesto now?)
I was excited to see Jon post here. Thought we were finally going to have a good dialogue about guardian and what it is really like to play. Bit disappointed that our community is giving so much and hearing so little back.
Anet lied (where’s the Manifesto now?)
Guardians may not be OP now but they defently have potential to become the OPiest class ever…
Back in beta they were..
Guardians have many blocks,inv,etc etc..
Anet said they wanted to buff the dmg of Guardians…Judging from their “balancing skills” i bet 10 dollars that they would be really OP after dec patch…
Let’s get some perspective. In Beta they had higher health AND blocked 20% of attacks. Both have been nerfed into the ground.
Guardiam has long been one of the most balanced classes in the game and while other classes have gotten nice buffs, Guardian has experienced nerf after nerf to key class abilities. TBH other classes even bunker better in many situations. Unlike other classes it only has one real build for tpvp and some minor variations of it.
Like any class there are some thief builds that guardian just tears apart and others they struggle with.
Anet lied (where’s the Manifesto now?)
I am not sure what kind of foes you are facing in WvW but athere are times when the 2 zergs hit that I get hit for 15000+. Despite trying to gave an aegis up. If I had beserker gear I’d be dead more often than not. Not sure what experience or divine wisdom is keeping you alive. I am guessing you are running with a more experienced group and your foes do not mele all that well.
Anet lied (where’s the Manifesto now?)
So basically they are just going to slowly strip away all our defenses till this is the worst class in the game. I am not really sure how one is supposed to mele with such low health or regen like we have withou dodging. GJ Anet
Anet lied (where’s the Manifesto now?)
This is one thing the game has done right and so many other games do wrong.
Anet lied (where’s the Manifesto now?)
@Aza a great post. Those changes would really help close the gap a little witn warrior.
Anet lied (where’s the Manifesto now?)
One thing I would like to point out before this week’s end. The one server that had the most right to complain out of the entire 30+ page thread has said the least and been very genuine fund people to fight this week. I’m speaking of Sea of Sorrows as they are complete undermanned and still manage to show up and compose themselves with civility on the forums. I think if anyone deserves credit this week it is them not us nor SoR. (We did win though yippy!
) I’ve seen them go off the hinges in previous threads yet haven’t seen that at all this week, and I wish the best for them the rest of the season. (SoS vs JQ threads re LULz.)
I think also Agg always deserves shout outs for their performances since they are definitely a solid guild to play with and against in fights.
Thanks to all that came out.
Most Adorable Necro NA,
Schnigle <3
Oh yeah SOS is so classy. Never saw them attack a BG objective all week and instead being part of the most disgusting 2v1 I have seen. Guess thats why class has the word kitten in it.
Anet lied (where’s the Manifesto now?)
Hater point of view: They must be nerfed into the ground
1) petting zoo
2) requires no skill to play
3) I just hate rangers in general
I have come to hate all the pet classes in general. They are just too offensive for all their defense.
Anet lied (where’s the Manifesto now?)
People taking breaks/quitting once season starting makes no sense. I can understand doing so beforehand or afterwards but this is what most hardcore WvW players have been looking forward to since this format was announced. To just “take a break” 2 weeks into it is just weak.
To quote Dog Chapman “There ain’t no warrior heart there”
Because its not any fun. People are not going to play when its not fun.
Anet lied (where’s the Manifesto now?)
Funny enough the comparison to HON is very apt. It was very hard to get a good game. Often ended up with someone leaving and teams of people kittening solo queued players.
It would be very easy to make standard hotjoin 6v6 and implement one of the many good ideas for solo queue tournament players
not sure if you have actually played hon, but the system meant that if 5% of ur games were leaves you couldnt join a non leaver game or the matchmaking. The HoN community is alot worse then the gw2 community, but the ingame play is alot more competitive and exciting…
honestly if they made something as simple as a capture the flag and run it back to ur base game mode, first to 5 wins etc it would be more exciting to play and watch then the current spvp system.
I played it for quite a while and only 1 match in 10 was worthwhile. The rest were all blow outs and often involved people leaving. Sad because I liked the characters much better than LOL. But a decent gqme is much easier to get in LOL. I play a lot of dominion these days and a lot of games go down to the wire.

Instead of +10 damage, how about +5 and when an agis shatters it applies chill. Thus helping us with a major issue.
Anet lied (where’s the Manifesto now?)
Its funny to hear bg whinging about pvd after they purposefuly created the situation by buying both guilds and 2v1’s.
I hope bg is loving its pvd… after all the gold it cost them. And don’t come here saying it doesn’t happen. We all have friends in the know, there are no secrets in WvW.
SOR will bounce back but not likely till after this league play ends.
Anet lied (where’s the Manifesto now?)
Problem with Guardian GS is that the projectiles are totally random and I doubt I’ve ever cleaned a condition off anyone.
Whirling Wrath seems awesome but it can randomly miss people in pvp. If you are not 100% on top its miss city.
These 2 things make comparing them difficult.
I’ve always liked Guardian GS better, but it definitely can be finicky at times.
Warrior GS has always been hard to land on pvp foes, requiring good timing amd skilled play, but when you do its drool-worthy. It definitely would be my choice in pve.
Anet lied (where’s the Manifesto now?)
This game copies a lot of its class design from Mobas. I can’t think of one low health Moba tank. This is the main reason the class lingers in mediocrity.
Anet lied (where’s the Manifesto now?)
We don’t need more HP. We’d be unstoppable. We could use some other stuff. But not more HP.
I agree with you when it comes to the healwaybuild and support AH builds. But the problem is that there alot of us also who dont like warriors but want to play more dps-offensive guardians. And we need a bit of a fix tbh. There is no contradiction in making a guardian good support and good dps depended on how you gear and spec them. But now we have 1 option if we want to viable.
This is why a trait that converts power to vitality is nearly essential in zeal. Otherwise people will be stuck runing the same AH and Healway builds seemingly forever. Other builds will never be viable with 13k health.
Anet lied (where’s the Manifesto now?)
The number one reason is the shallowness of the combat. The combat in these games tells a story. Its a story you write every time you log in. The combat in this game is on par with See Spot Run. The pve in this game is just so shallow that its not much fun to do nor do you feel any accomplishment in doing it.
Otherwise, the game runs ok, it is lovely, the pvp is not too bad and there is no sub.
Sadly, the pve is not worth doing.
Anet lied (where’s the Manifesto now?)
No one will read and take seriously your feedback, we know this even more after each round of balance update.
The easy way to fix our issues is just to reroll war, anet won’t fix guardian class.
Sad but true they have not listened to one bit of feedback from our guardian forum since launch.
