The game matches teams with really unfair team chemistry, where it becomes apparent after a minute that one team is going to get steamrolled so they go afk.

A game can come down to one player. I get somone on my team who is a really good thief and the other team gets a bad thief. The whole game is a 4v5 because of it.

There is always going to be afk and 4v5. It’s just part of pvp.

I would say that 60% of the matches I play are reasonably close, within 100 points. That is a heck of a lot better than Rift, Warhammer or any other MMO I have played where maybe 1 in 6 games was worth playing. So its not as bad as people make out. Hopefully the current matchmaking makes it a little bit better.

But there is always room for hope and improvement (thats why this post exists), I am glad that pvp get’s some love again, and will take whatever is coming even if I think some of it could have been done better.

Here is what I think they could copy from LOL.

Queue – You queue for game.

Ready Up – Then when 10 people are found they click ready. If 1 doesn’t click the game takes 30 sec to try and find another.

It balances out people as best it can based on Rank as it takes you to the next screen.

Character Select – There you have 60 sec to pick one of your characters and build lay outs to play and can adjust your teams classes. No penalties occur till you enter the character select screen. From then on dishonour applies.

Game – Game starts.

Disconnects – You have 60 sec to reconnect with no penalty. Can do this twice.

Positive Reinforcement
There should be a system of rewards for being a good team player instead of focusing on punishments for being a bad team player. You could simply get a currency for every top stat you get that could be used to buy boosts, skins and/or ascended jewellery, similar to the guild mission currency. Therefore if your losing you could still focus on getting a top stat or two and get something out of playing. This focus on punishment is not going to improve the general mood of pvp.

If you disconnect in LOL you can get back in the game no harm done.

Also, if you are not ready at ready up there is no penalty either.

Penalty’s don’t come into effect until you go to character select.

I would look at LOL’s success and work off their system.

SNIPPET

Are we talking duels on a duel server or tpvp/spvp?
In sPvP there are fights that I do not take if they hold a point. I’d never engage against a Warrior since the fight would be too long, but the only class that I can never beat is engi.
They are incredibly strong in Conquest, but in duels I can manage a sustained fight that goes on forever.
25 stacks can be reached, and it’s all about doing a little mini-game trying not to waste any blastfinishers without a firefield, if you’re on a team with another ele or engi it’s obviously much easier.

TPVP/SPVP mostly though I do duel a little sometimes on duelling servers (and get my kitten kicked sometimes by all sorts of classes, though I am a semi-casual player I guess). I never use macros as I think there is more personal satisfaction doing it all yourself.

Regarding what you said about 25 stacks of might: That’s a little different to people implying that getting and maintaining 25 stacks is easy. You can’t often keep a perfect rotation either due to changing situations during fights. You have to adapt. During fights I typically look down and see maybe 13 stacks of might (yes I am using battle sigil + strength runes). Maybe I need to L2P a little better, but often I’m recovering from all sorts of cripples, immobilization, conditions, etc. and no way can I keep a perfect rotation / blast finishers going.

If I get all my boons converted to conditions and my cleanse is on cooldown, I’m usually dead because I can barely move. 1 good necro on a team is all it takes.

Of course I’m no “pro”.. so could be missing something. But I shouldn’t need to be, as some are saying how easy it is…

Guess that’s why the best teams are currently running 2 ele 2 engi and 1 thief or mes. Must be because Necro is such a great counter to ele.

I think you should have 60 sec to get back into the game. The proposed dishonour system is too harsh.

There is nothing here that is going to stop or deter AFKers. If I am in a bad game with hopeless people I am just going to move around a bit and keep from getting dishonour.

TBH I think there would be 50% less 4v5 if Skyhammer was deleted and even less if there was some formula to balance the number of classes per team. Had a game last night where I was on a team with 4 guardians vs a team of Ele and Engi and the guardians could not even touch their health bars. One of the guardians left and everyone else went afk. Had the classes been distributed better no 4v5 or afk situation would have developed.

Suggestions to shave DD ele into balance.

in Profession Balance

Posted by: Relentliss.2170

Relentliss.2170

Meh the only thing that is OP with ele is the healing. Its ridiculous that a cele ele can recover from 20% to full….

Let them have protection , might, vigor but nerf the healing . It takes me kittening 5 minutes to kill an ele and I’m a glass thief so yea…

Same problem with engi btw , healing turret needs to be nerfed or a longer cast time.

Shout healing warrior is also aids, way too much sustain.

I’m tiered of fighting cele classes for 10 mins.

So why aren’t you also complaining about guardians? (by the way, 20% to 100% is extremely over-exaggerated)

Guardians actually go from 20% to 100% all the time.

Yeah using their Heal Skill which can be interrupted and is on lengthy CD. DD ele does it using other skills and its a bit ridiculous. Soon as they shift into Water they become a Raid Boss.

Ele is completely OP atm with how much healing it has. I don’t even feel DD Ele is as strong as Staff Ele. I can kind of ignore a DD Ele as its damage is not huge… Staff Ele (unless its a zerker) is just as tanky and doing strong damage to a massive area. I can’t ignore them.

The person’s comment on Stats is 100% correct. Like thief, Ele has such low health that unless its OP in other areas it can not survive to be effective. Same with Necro but in reverse: if they ever improved their trait system they would be massively OP because of how much health they have.

Warrior is one class that has had the most work done on it. It has had a total revamp from top to bottom at one stage. It has effective builds for every part of the game. I am not saying that your points are not justified, only that they have already had an imbalanced amount of work done on them and other classes are more in need of a rework. In fairness, I would not expect a rework. If anything I might expect a little buff to how long Adrenaline lasts outside of combat and that is about it.

I run this. It seems to allow me to miss a dodge or two and not die immediately. The consecrations provide much needed group support. Its taking advantage of several different + damage modifiers. And it is pretty cheap, just a full set of zerker, you can use exotic accesories, some cheap runes and away you go. I don’t really find toughness does a whole lot, having a bit extra health is quite handy instead.

Expanding Guardian

in Guardian

Posted by: Relentliss.2170

Relentliss.2170

How would you want to expand the guardian class?

What should be buffed so that an entire new viable build is made? What is that entire new build you envision?

Spirit Weapon build- Spirit weapon cooldown starts right when summoned instead of disappearing. I really really want to play a SW build so bad. But when SW lost its immunity to attacks, SW build lost its viable status in all forms of gameplay.

Condi Guardian- Radiant Retaliation needs something more added than turning Retal into condi. Right now, it is a trait that decreases the guard’s power instead of increasing it.

Condi Guardian Master of burning- Permeating Wrath will now have a 1200 range. It consistently spreads burning everywhere. Also, burning needs to scale better with condi gear.

Spirit Weapons – they need to survive. End of story. ATM they die too quickly in certain game modes. I see no particular reason why a Spirit Ranger can have his up 90% of the time and we cannot or a Necro have up his minions nearly 100% of the time and we cannot. Why are turrets so much harder to destroy?

Condi Guardian – we need more conditions i sugget traits, bleed on crit, 50% per pulse symbols add a cripple… also need to consolidate into 2 lines by moving GM traits… atm you need 6 in 3 different lines to burn optimally…

The biggest and easiest change they could make for us would be to give us some new offhands and improve our current ones: eg Warhorn, improve torch, improve shield, sword. I think this would add more playstyles and options without grossly overpowering us.

When I said med guard I meant I struggle to fight the top ones as a Mesmer. For me I struggle to fight them, I don’t think they’re op in other regards.

I consistently struggle the most against Eles.My Med Guardian seems like it does well and when they hit half health they just heal back to full, my Engi has all his turrets nuked down and my Warrior does the best but they just clear off his burning pretty easily and he seems to tickle them more than anything.

Well played theives are just full on tough if not impossible. Various thief builds counter different things and they can be really hard depending on your build and theirs.

Shatter Mesmer when played well can kill anyone.

I don’t know if theif or mesmer are OP I just find some of the builds tough match ups for the sort of tanky class I usually play. I kinda feel Ele might be a little strong atm, but time will tell.

Longbow itself has 2 rather strong protective skills. It’s other weapon sets all have protective skills. I am not seeing the problem. If you think GS 5 or LB 4 is heavily telegraphed go try a warrior where every skill is telegraphed. The last skill on a weapon is usually very defensive and usually has a long cd.

6/6/x/x/x with beserker gear are not the only builds. The rangers that give me problems usually have defensive traits but run beserker gear. You can tell, they hit pretty hard but are very very hard to kill.

Burn is very powerful in pve. I highly rate mace/focus + Defenders Flame. You can kill tons of mobs and not even take any damage. Lately when I am running around gathering or finishing my daily, I use GS + Mace/Foc, I can bring huge groups of mobs to me and simply burn them down.

The 1 point traits in Honor, Radiance, Virtues are some of our strongest and what I always grab early. Getting 3 in Radiance, 2 in Valor and 1 in Virutes and 1 Honor would be on my priority list when levelling.

That is why SoloQ is too much depends on luck factor: you lose if your team get more noob people, you can’t be game changer.

If you want be a game changer just pick turret engie and go far. Your team can be bad, but this move separates 50/50 your contribution to the win and contibution of other 4 teammates

If you can play a good decapper you will have a nice winning percentage. As it throws the other team into confusion and allows your team to get numerical advantages on other points.

If you are a pro thief, mes, engi, or ele you can also kill people really quickly making things imbalanced. But you have to be really good to carry like this.

Largely I find games are won by who has the best aoe damage… skill of the players being similar.

How to balance classes

in Profession Balance

Posted by: Relentliss.2170

Relentliss.2170

Guardian Searing Flames btw prioritizes Might when choosing which boon to remove. A bigger problem than boons in this game is the ability to spam conditions, not boons

But hey that’s just my biased opinon and so on

the thing is that conditions, while being spammable, is possible to cleanse. Every profession CAN cleanse.
However not every profession CAN get boons or certain boons without investing heavily into getting them.

Warrior cannot easily get protection, Aegis.
Ranger cannot get Aegis easily.
Thief cannot get protection, aegis, stability.
Necromancer cannot get aegis and stability easily, it can get protection through investing in utilities although they has long cooldowns.
Mesmer can get lots of boons, but not that easily without investing in traits.
Engineer can get most boons, but sometimes it seems you gotta choose certain builds in order to get em.

Only guard and ele has almost all boons avaliable at all times, easily. These two professions uses boons, ontop of their normal stats, to litterally wreck havoc.

Your ignorance is toxic. Ele’s require 10/14 or more traits to start spamming boons.

Problem is people can spend 10/14 traits and still not build a counter to their boons. On any class.

And I agree with the OP, what boons and conditions get stripped is a big issue.

On my condition stripping Warrior, Burn is about the last thing to go. It’s the one thing doing me real damage and it’s the last removed. It’s a huge pain in the rear. I would put my condition priority as Big Stack, CC, Burn, then whatever…

Same thing with Boons, priority should be Big Stack, Stability, Regen then whatever…

Celestial vs PVT

in Guardian

Posted by: Relentliss.2170

Relentliss.2170

I personally went celestial even though i know i can get better stats if i optimize and mix and match.

The reason for me to grab celestials is that by swapping the accessories (which i have pretty much every combination of) i can alter my toons playstyle.

Full zerker for roaming, might builds and burst.

Full pvt for frontline pusher

clerics for healway gameplay

and so on.

My second celestial gear was full keepers. Which btw is great in a healway build, combination of lots of healing, burst and crit is superfun in a 0/0/2/6/6.

Wont craft an other ascended for my war/guard.

I am generally on the commander and playing a front line pusher. The nice thing about PVT is the nice power/toughness/vitality balance, which provides plenty of survivability when combined with AH. AH basically makes up for not having very big healing power.

The big bonus to Celestial to me would be the increase to healing power and ferocity and the ability to play entirely different roles by just swapping accessories.

Meh I’m still confused. I recieved a wup-wup chest box the other day so maybe not having to craft a cele chest piece is a sign.

Added a pic of my guardian in celestial armor with hoelbrak runes with celestial trinkets and back and clerics ring and amulet and celestial weapons.. This is what i zerg with and also command from time to time. Its dual or triple shouts and one consecration. I swap out the celestial back and trinkets for pvt and/or berserkers from time to time.

You seriously dont need any more vitality. I have 22k health with minor bloodlust and after killing 5 npc. The issue imo isnt healthpool, its the ability to restore healthpool to come back in to the fight as fast as possible. The ability to fast come backs lack in pvt imo.

Thanks for uour help Brut. I can’t seem to make anything like that in the gw2 skills builder. You have a lot of stacks of stuff and seem to be using stats based food rather than the -40% conditions we usually use. Its hard to work out what they all are or what accessories to run.

Atm I am looking at making celestial. I admit I’ve gotten a bit bored with WvW and only play when the good commander is on so I don’t feel rushed. I think my whole server has.

Support doesn't work as a profession concept.

Off the wiki.

Due to a diverse skill system allowing for a multitude of vastly different character builds, every profession in Guild Wars 2 is capable of fitting each of the combat roles (damage, support, control) or are sometimes even the result of a combination of them.

By the very concept of the game guardians should be more than just support. In terms of the state of those three right now, I would rate them B/A-/C- respectively. We have a place in high end pvp using support builds, but I certainly can’t say we belong there trying anything else at the moment. Damage role needs a few QoL changes in general while support role needs to keep up with the power creep in this game. I think buffing the control role will in turn help the damage role out quite a bit.

That being said, I think support plays a large part of what this class does. It’s part of the guardian’s identity, though I don’t think it should be it’s only role. Through traits, a guardian should have the option to play support, damage or a hybrid of the two.

I agree with what you say 100%.

Also got to consider: The classes are based on MOBA characters. Gear and traits allow them to play different roles. Late game DPS> pretty much everything in a MOBA. You see this a lot in GW2 whether it be pvp or pve… since lvl 80 is all Late Game DPS is king, so long as your placement is good it beats all other factors. So if Guardian’s main role is support it will always be the paper to someone’s scissors.

I just don’t feel that my support is unique in this game either. Other classes have their own ability to supply the exact same buffs I give them either by blasting or using their own abilities. It makes the support function of the guardian seem rather weak. If I was the only place they could get might, regen or stability from, I’d be important but there are dozens of ways to get these buffs. So support seems rather pointless.

It also seems like the classes were designed by totally different people. Similar buffs last 10+ sec when cast by other classes but Guardian buffs last on average 5-7 sec. Not to mention our CD are much longer. How can I justify playing a support character when others can cast my buffs and my abilities last such a short amount of time? I might as well go all out AP Soraka and pwn mid…

Celestial vs PVT

Don´t play full PVT, massive waste of dmg or support via healing power.

PVT amor and berserker trinkets (or zealot´s works well). Celestial is ok, still better then full pvt.

I actually have a ton of different trinkets that I use to achieve different numbers, beserker, knights, cleric, soldier, celestial. So I am already doing what you say to some extent. TBH I find Crit Damage about the worst stat in the game for zerg play and lately have been running with near full pvt. I find you notice the difference in a group of 10 or less but otherwise its like meh the longer I live the more damage I do.

Its going to take a while to do the crystals so am not in a hurry.

Why after 2 years still no move speed trait?

Well when I saw videos of the Guardian reveal before launch the concept was really cool. You had these huge glowy weapons that followed you and devastated your foes. You had this awesome attack with your sword that sent out a wave of death in front of you. You had an awesome looking shield that not only looked amazing but seemed to offer tons of playability.

No one said hey your spirit weapons will disappear after a few moments or be killed in 1 hit. No one said your sword 3 rooted you in spot and was easily dodgable. No one said your shield was perhaps the worst offhand in the game. Seems pretty misleading.

What I am currently playing doesn’t seem like the class I signed up for. Nor do the concept videos say ‘You can buff your friends with marginal spells so they can have fun.’

Nor do they say ‘You can move really slow so that people with the right spec can fight you can kill you at will, but you will never be able to do the same.’

Forget the runspeed … it’s a dead-end solution for engaging. It won’t be supported because it’s not key to the class concept. If someone has a REALLY awesome argument for how the class concept is insufficient to compete, that’s exactly what is needed to influence change.

So what is the class concept? Stand on a point till you die? IMHO that is a pretty stupid kitten concept to have.

I doubt very much that a 25% run speed trait/signet would help a lot but at least it would give you some options. It might even open up Med guardian as viable in the top meta. ATM it just can not rotate fast enough to be of use to top teams.

Celestial vs PVT

The thread itself is misleading … what is the actual complaint about if it’s not about having runspeed to choose engagement? If we don’t need runspeed, why complain we don’t have it? Is this one of those “players should get want they ask for, no matter what it is” threads?

I think Guardians should be able to choose their engagement more. Deciding when and where to fight is fundamental to a player’s enjoyment of pvp. It’s like your options have been taken out of your control and it frustrates people.

I can deal with it in spvp since it is all conquest. I can watch the map and decide where I might be the most use. But I don’t overly enjoy Guardian roaming since most people I am beating simply invisible and run away. And anyone who knows they have a good spec vs a Guardian simply slow you and force you to fight them. So I know I match up terrible to build X and want to avoid them, that power is taken out of my control. You are constantly forced to fight fights that you have little chance of winning and the fights you can win the person runs away and denies you that satisfaction. I am not seeing how that situation is fun gameplay. I don’t really think that a +25% run signet or trait will help but it would not hurt.

Just to add any other game I’ve played getting run speed parity was the equivalent of pvp parity. Guardian seems to lack this.

I still think we should just nerf might stacking first because it’s the +duration that makes things become silly (and the reason I started rolling Shatter Mes to help counter it).

I strongly believe this is the most sensible approach. I am not understanding why when I play a guardian a lot of the might I stack lasts for 5-10 sec (unless I blast) and when I play other classes 20-30. It seems a gigantic difference.

[Spvp][Elementalist] D/D celestial needs nerf

To prove my point, the other day I decided to become god mode and so I dusted off my ele. I went into the KOTH arena and won every one of my 1v1s for a good 15-16 rounds straight until finally Booms beat me with CELE engi.

#Balanced

You tell me a plan on how to nerf d/d in sPvP without affecting WvW and PvE at all.

Just add new pvp modes. Simple and efficient.

easy:
Slightly reduce healing power scaling on Healing Ripple (sPvP only)
Slightly reduce healing power scaling on Cleansing Wave (sPvP only)
Add an internal cooldown of 5 seconds to evasive arcana (sPvP only. This would also bring said skill more in line with other effects on dodge)
reduce vigor duration on Renewing Vigor from 5 to 3 seconds (sPvP only)

Now you still have good sustain. Just not an ridiculous abundance of it.

These seem very well thought out changes.

Add in some reduction to might stacking and things are looking a lot better.

hotjoin is terrible

in PvP

Posted by: Relentliss.2170

Yes it is terrible. Spectate mode needs to be removed and allow people to queue with 1 other person to compensate. Till that happens people will simply swap to the winning team and it will remain terrible. I refuse to play hotjoin even to test builds.

Hotjoin was not too bad when you could not pick a side and got lumped where the game put you. It was tolerable. It would not take much to simply return to this mechanic.

I agree ’It’s just hotjoin’ is not excuse for the mode to be terrible. This will be the mode any beginner first tries and if it is awful the mode can not grow. Eg. a friend of mine was doing Hotjoin and was about to quit the game. I got him to try soloq and now he is a regular player.
