Easy simple tanky zerg build. Imho I die when I run out of stability. And with other guardians running purging flames too and warriors running warhorn I prioritise stability over condition removal. AH gives you sustain you need.

No the OP is right, something is very wrong with Solo Que as of about the last month.
You can play 10 Solo Que games in a row and repeatedly lose every match. I don’t mean just lose a match, these loses will be so imbalanced that the que feels almost rigged in the opposing teams favor, as if some of your players are purposely throwing the match or the other team has “all champion & legend titles” whilst the opposing team has all “combat medics & default armored characters”. I have personally seen extremely imbalanced Solo Queing happen for longer than 10 matches, at different times of day and any day of the week.I don’t know if there is some method of tracking server joins in solo que “so they only join when they see each other and people they know” or a way to synch que “like the old GW1 RA synch methods” or maybe even people on multiple accounts that are somehow manipulating the leaderboards “too many methods to cover here that would be easy to do” but A-Net needs to look in to it.
I witness this a lot. My soloq is very streaky. When I lose I am often on repeated teams of people who cannot win a one on one. Many people on one team will be in default gear while the other team looks like the box cover.

Which leads to an interesting question. Is it possible to build to counter the Engi specifically or are we simply outclassed every way we approach it.
Obviously this depends on the build we are facing, as they have several very viable configurations and we have far less effective options.
Tbh I think we are outclassed by Engi and Ele. A player of equal or even slightly less skill level will beat you nearly every time.

Most of the criticism I have seen has been somewhat genuine.
Common topics: Celestial builds having an imbalance of tankiness and damage. Current version of Ranger,previous version of Warrior, too little risk vs reward.
Every thing is just a variation of these 2 issues. Balance between tankiness and damage, balance between risk vs reward. People complain when they feel these things are out of whack.
Are things out of whack? Likely. You buff a ranged class then mele takes a dive. You buff mele ranged takes a dive. Perfect balance is impossible. Someone is always going to feel short changed. Does this make complaints any less legit? Not really. In this game of rock paper sizzors, someone is going to always feel short changed.

There are a lot of ways to counter a turret engi, but they are a little strong atm. Once you work out how to use your heal turret effectively you become really tanky.

Rooted in place for the cast like Guardian sword #3 or 100 blow
Now there is a real opportunity cost to using the skill.

Most people are not able to react. It is just crazy how little skill this is taking. Find someone fighting. Blast dude with #4 he is kd’d then unleash #2 before he can get up. Bam most people are half dead at this point. And wow if he is a good dodger my spider will snare him for some more rf fun 8 sec later.
You really think this is skillful?
I actually don’t think the dps of it is that bad, maybe 10% too much maybe remove the vulnerability stack from the skill, but the cd on #4 is way too short for a powerful CC. And like most bow attacks it is not telegraphed to the opposition all that well.
And no, despite running beserker my Ranger build is very tanky yet is able to devastate people.
And I doubt the guy on satellite is dodging anything, unless all he does is stare at Rangers and make avoiding them his sole focus in life. If his ping was 400ms he would cop half of it every time. It is mathematically impossible.

You are very low on health. I would build a set of celestial and use that as my base.

Ranger is still the easyest to beat class, just got one good skill what can be dodged because that have a 2 and a half second cast time. If you cant react on a that long skill pls never drive in real life. Normal human reaction time is 0.2 second what is 12x less as the cast time of RF. So if you are not brain dead you can react after the first and befor the second hit
How does that factor in with ping? Average ping would be .1 so by time it comes to your computer its probably at the .2 or .3 mark. Then your .2 reaction. So by time you dodge you find yourself copping a great deal of it. If you are an overseas customer you are catching most of it before you can do anything. So the skill in its current form is not ‘fair’ and needs some sort of cast time.
So at worst under crappy conditions you might eat the first couple arrows. So what? That is maybe equal to the longbow AA?
Raid fire has a pretty long cast time to deal its full damage by burst standards. Most the people complaining about it are dying because they have crappy situational awareness. If they gave it a cast time before it hits they would need to make it 1 big damage spike instead of a channel. This would make it even deadlier to the people that can’t be bothered to look around in pvp.
That is total nonsense. Most people can not react before they are copping a good dose of it. And if you have 2 rangers you run out of dodges pretty quick.
I’ve spvp’d on a ranger since launch and the current state of the class is embarassingly OP.

The problem is the 4 and 2 skills are both on a 10 sec cd.
This means that in pvp the ranger can basically kd you and then unleash rf. By time you get up you catch at least half of it assuming you have a dodge available.
So lets say you dodge the 4 this means you likely will not have a dodge available for the 2. So its a catch 22 and unless you have a reflect or something, you get pasted.
The solution is to increase the cd on 4 to 15-20 sec.

They take too much aoe damage and the shield is a little unreliable. Those would be my main complaints.

This is an effective burning and vulnerability build. Can use GS instead of hammer if you prefer. I felt it was a bit squishy but my friend loves it.

The paths need to have more tokens for the particular dungeon. The rate at which you earn pieces is relatively slow.

You might want to focus on stacking vulnerability instead of chill. Increase the length of the immobilise and as many sources of vulnerability as you can. Would make for some big mighty blows.

The thing that makes this so deadly is the vulnerability and the knockback. Put the knockback on a longer cd so you can’t combo’them every 8 sec and remove the vulnerability stack and you go a long way to making this tolerable.

Considering the buffs meditation guardian got recently, it would seem Anet is becoming aware of the situation and will reconsider the other side.
To be honest I wouldn’t really say that they were all that significant as far as buffs go. The change to fury on medi becoming AoE for allies is a greater buff than the renewed focus change IMO, and that wasn’t even mentioned in the patch notes, let alone the ready up stream.
This is more of a comment on our small buff than on our role in current team meta:
After the last patch, I find I am just taking too much damage from too many ranged sources for my med build, which I only really use in solo q, to be effective anymore. Everyone else’s buffs are just so much bigger than any we recieved. Its gotten so bad that if I want to play a fun game to complete my dailies I have to play a different class.Just out of curiosity, may I ask which profession you change to for PvP? I am finding the same difficulties with my Guardian at the moment and while I do enjoy PvP, the current Range > Melee meta that this patch has introduced is making the games just not very fun on a Guardian. So, I am looking to change professions and would be interested in what you do find fun in PvP now.

Necro and Ranger mostly. The problem is I don’t like these classes that much but the meta seems to have really shifted to ranged combat.

1. Yes I hate Skyhammer.
2. Yes, but it isn’t particularly Turret Engi’s but the large number of cheese builds the game allows/encourages.
3. Same as 2. I’d like to add that rangers are a real issue as their damage and popularity is making pvp unplayable for a large number of classes/builds.

There are a few issues here. The other bunker classes provide more CC and do more damage in bunker mode than a guardian. And yet have similar amounts of sustain. Why wouldn’t a team opt for one over a guardian?

Mace works well with a burn on block Runes or Trait. Run into people fighting and pop #3 for nice damage.

I think there are reasons why LOL is an esport and this game is not. One is: They really keep DOT’s to a minimum whereas GW2 adds a new DOT every patch.
Not only are they numerous, they are applied AOE with less risk to the caster.
It just makes for really poor pvp at times.

Any Tanky class… Warrior, Necro, Ele even Ranger can distract while you kill.

Talking about WvW zerging only here.
Don’t go full Soldier because you will end up with bad sustain and bad damage. Mix and match armor to get 1900+ Power, 18k+ hp, 3000-3200 armor, around 30% crit and around 200% crit damage. You can also make a small investment into healing with this spec. Trait points are 0/0/6/4/4 with AH, 20% cd reduction on shouts and 2H skills, secondary stab. RF as your elite.

This is pretty much the build I run. Aim for 2000 power, 3000+ Armor, 20k health and it is pretty easy to achieve.
Get the runes and food to achieve condition duration reduction. Precision Oil. Can go all pvt with the precision knights ammy.

If #2 was addressed and Adrenaline built quicker the whole nerf would be somewhat more tolerable. It really builds too slow to swallow the other nerfs.

Maybe in the future WvW will be replaced by ETOM. The game ends in 3h, so its the perfect size for a night’s play. It’s actually a lot of fun with a lot of great clashes and some interesting situations with siege and bridges etc. WvW after a while becomes a big drag. Without major changes every 6 months or so, a lot of people just get burnt out on WvW. Something more casual could possibly take over this stage in the game’s cycle. It’s not necessarily a bad thing.

Unless your side is winning the 24/7 is more tedious than fun. I know we had a great Sat night Aussie time and closed within 1000 only to get up to a 16000 loss the next day. It is not a pleasant gaming environment.
Also by the end of the weekend a lot of sides have given up.
I am not sure what an alternative is. Much like last year, this season is not turning out to be much fun. Big map blobs everywhere. Dirty tricks on all sides. People paying for coverage. Coverage being lopsided. Massive queues. It’s a mess. Not what I had hoped for.

Change your oil to the precision one or your weapon to knights. You really want a 30%+ crit rate. Add sigil of accuracy. Otherwise its hard to beat pvt.

This is a good place to start. It really got me back into playing guardian.
You can try different combos of gear but it is the basis of a very common and solid build.
eg Celestial Ammy, Soldier Ammy + Intellgence Sigil, different runes (Pack Citadel Lyssa Ogre)
PS don’t hotjoin. Wait a couple minutes to play in SoloQ and you will find that more enjoyable.

Unlike some I do not buy into it was UP for a while now its OP and that is fine. In fact the last patch the balance was not bad at all. Every class had a spec and counter. I was quite enjoying pvp and even Ranger was pretty effective then.
I play a lot of classes and reflect is not really part of any build. Nor do I see it much. Having reflect skills somewhere in your tree and actually being able to spec them or have them be useful are all different things.
I simply chew through whoever I face now. It’s not remotely skillful. I wait till they engage with someone then find a nice spot push #2, the death button, and kill them. By the time they get to me they are dead.
Even running a power build, my Ranger is reasonably tanky… I have protection up a lot of the time… same with regen. Not to mention how with all its slows it is really difficult for anyone to engage for a serious length of time.
I am glad you are happy with your Ranger being OP, but tbh its pretty pathetic.
And yes the damage you can achieve in game situations with RF is on par with 100Bl only you do so with no risk.

Ok my 100B might hit a target for 5k-7k… usually they are able to do something to stop some of it. And some of it is migigated by gear. Not to mention I actually had to put myself in harms way to do it.
The 2 skill on Longbow routinely hits every single person for 5k+. I am not sure how piercing works but it seems to slice through warriors and theives almost equally. See a person dodge once or twice then bam. And I can apply it from a very long way away.
Only a couple of classes have reflects.
This is like the WOW Huntard on steroids.
You want to keep the damage high then I would suggest lowering the range to 600-900. But I would still cut the damage by at least 10%.
100 Blows required a lot of factors to work correctly. This requires nothing but logging in.

Basically I think you want to run Oxzlis’ second build. You can build the same thing in exotics with pvt armor and it only affects the numbers slightly.
I favour Indomitable Courage over Absolute Resolution, I guess it depends on the groups you run with and the foes you face.
I really like the Restoration Sigil in my staff. The personal healing it provides is really nice. I am not sure the Toughness Sigil is the one you want but its not a bad choice.

I love all the tears, rangers are SUPPOSED to be the strongest ranged combatants, we rely on our pets, and given the kitten poor AI and lack of useful controls for the pets, we’re significantly missing our peak performance, but oh hey, rangers are finally what EVERY OTHER CLASS WAS, FOR 2 kittenING YEARS, BETTER NERF THEM AGAIN.
Every other class can pew pew pew people in 3 hits ? What game have you been playing ? On a more serious note,there is something terribly wrong with the dmg output from rangers ( Think back to the pet dmg increase patch,that got nerfed really fast )..in this case,they just messed up..yet again.
I’m guessing you’ve never been backstabbed for over 7k, or hit by a warrior for over 8k… do you even PvP?
At least with rapid fire you can dodge roll the 2nd half of it to mitigate the damage down to around 4k. It’s not that hard.

This is the most OP, no skilled class I have seen since beastmaster huntards.
Played 3 matches today on mine, really I had little memory of what the skills do, just knew 1 was shoot and 2 was mega shoot and proceeded to get top kills in every match. Died twice. Only used my heal skill about 5 times. It was simply silly. Reminded me of when I’d play WOW and just feign death in the grass while my pet got top damage and kills.
