Omg they promised them 1 month ago. Then on 26th they said one week.
Waiting for the next excuse
Because pvp community is made of kittens, so we hate water
(see? everything makes sense now)
Why are they temporary?
I’m of course mostly referring to the ones that cost gems.
First, If you mostly spvp, you probably dont have gold to transfer to gems.
Second, majority of people (possibly all) are not willing to whip out their wallet to buy a few hours of having a unique finisher….
Like if i buy it in bulk for 5 dollars worth of gems i get 5 hours of a speacial finisher when i decide to use that to finish someone. Oh la de da.
It doesnt add up with other things i could spend money on… if it was something i kept forever, i would (as would most people) be 100x more likely to buy it. As it would be worth money, because it would be something i would continue to benefit from.
If theres an arguement why these are temporary i’d love to hear it, because right now i can see no logical explanation.
This!!
If finishers were permanent i know everyone would buy a few. And it shouldnt be gamebreaking since we already have infinite finishers from ranks.
So you want to monetize pvp? Then do it. But if we buy something it has to be permanent!
lol, you think leaderboards actually exist.
listen lil buddy… there are things about santa clause and the easter bunny that you should probably know.
Anet Dev #1: “Omg, it’s the 26th of March and we have to release this patch! Please tell me we have something we can post up about new features being brought into pvp”
Anet Dev#2: “Uh, we have nothing new to release… deleting 8 team tournies from the menu list was all the resources we had.”
Anet Dev#1: “ARRRRHHHHHH… what are we gonna do? The community will kill us”
Anet Dev#2: “Well, I have an idea but its a stretch. See, we can actually tell the community that we have new features they have been wanting and we are releasing them on the 26th… but you just can’t SEE them. Because, you know, they are invisible”
Anet Dev#1: “Omg man, that is freaking genius. Of course, yes, we will tell them we are releasing cool new features they have been wanting…and that they are just INVISIBLE”
Anet Dev#2: “Well I said it was a stretch, you actually think they will buy this”
Anet Dev#1: “Rofl, are you kidding me? of course they will. Bunch of 15 year old mouth breathing bieber fans… I just can’t believe we didn’t think of this earlier”
lol
locking weapons killed many builds. Many weapons that lack mobility died that day.
Who plays staff ele now? No one.
Staff will never have RTL, so it will never be worth using.
I don’t think observer mode makes esports. It’s a nice addition but it should come the last.
Game balance, ladders, soloq, teamq, custom arenas, ratings, advertising, streams, tournaments…
that makes an esport
@Oni
The leaderboards will be taking to account the MMR pre-patch…That’s the problem.
They reset the mmr in February(without announcement or warning which made all of our mass gaming pointless), when all the teams were playing. We all assumed mmr would come in in march with yet another reset because that makes sense. I mean, who introduces a ladder without a reset right? So during march not a single top tier team was playing seriously except for a few lower tier teams that finally got to win a lot.
Now we find out the next month that there was no reset, which heavily kittens up the initial mmr.
In the end this wont matter, it’ll get fixed. I just hope we don’t have to see those names on the leaderboards for a month c:
Im sorry but you cant afk from a game 1 or 2 months and complain because other teams are in a better position than yours and then blame the devs for it. They never said MMR would be reset on March, so it wasnt reset.
(no offense intended to you or your team, I just don’t understand your attitude. If your team can win every match I’m sure you can be on top of the ladder within 1 week )

All the ideas in this thread are awesome. It’s too bad the company doesnt want to spend money on pvp
There was once a man named Jonathan Sharp.
He said, “Soon.”
And, at first, we all swooned.
But then, as time passed,
The devs became relaxed,
And we knew no good patches
Would come to pass.
I’m so gonna use this in other threads lol
Is there any copyright?
At first I typed 1 up. Then i read this and I have to say he is right:
Game Over.
At first I wanted it to be permanent, but then I realized its something they’ll probably do every year for April, and they’ll probably add to it each year, so it’ll be something to look forward to and to keep me coming back to the game. They basically seem to be doing what they did for the original Guild Wars event-wise; they already have awesome events for Halloween and Wintersday, and now they have this for April. In the original Guild Wars once I was done the campaign I only really came back for events like Wintersday.
If they make it permanent people will just get sick of it and then no one will play the adventure box anymore anyway. This way its a fun thing to bring people back to the game.
The magic of april fools day
Eu or na?
Also, why mesmer has to be r45 and other classes r40?
People complaining because rank 1 are playing. Well, I’ll tell you a secret.
You want the game to grow right? Then you will want to see rank 1.
If you dont see new people around, the game will eventually die.
So do your best to help them and dont flame because you lost invisible rating
I dont think all classes should be able to play all roles.
Arenas this expansion are the worst. The people complaining about gw2 balance should try them out.
9) Enable streaks – the winner team is assigned a new opponent on a new map until losing.
Streaks with increased multiplier of glory in each round , will naturaly will tranfer the sPvP popoulation to tPvP and increase their motivation to win (until they will logout)
That is actually an amazing idea.
The pvp itself is very enjoyable to play, but when you have been playing for a while it tires you so much.
A fun to play, even if unbalanced, game mode would be a nice addition.
good luck.
You are forgetting to say if you are EU or NA, and what times do you play.
Hello PvPers,
I just wanted to give some perspective from ‘the other side’ (whatever that mysterious place may be). I’ve played guild wars 2 since BWE1 and got around 2500 hours played since launch but I always largely stayed away from sPvP as it never really appealed to me initially.
I’ve done lots of dungeons, lots of WvW but sPvP… I dabbled a bit here and there never really got into the groove of things. Mainly because I only ever played hotjoin and hotjoin to put it blunt is awful with the uneven teams, auto-balancing, people come and go as they please. Just a big mess basically.
It really put me off sPvP for a long time and ‘Tournament’ always sounded kind of daunting to me because I expected it to all just be pre-made voice comm groups on there. So I never bothered looking properly into it all and so I never did. I did a couple of free tournament matches with a more experienced group once which went well but I still felt largely intimidated by getting into tournaments.
Then comes around the laurel monthly. I quickly jump to the opportunity like many others to grab some extra laurels so I joined into a solo tournament expecting to just deal with the bad experience and the usual name calling that comes along with the sPvP scene (another thing that put me off previously).
To my surprise however I really enjoyed it, from my experience in dungeons and WvW as well as the little I loitered around sPvP (And some keg brawl
) I already had ample experience as a mesmer in various situations both pve and pvp. I knew the maps well enough from the little I played them previously and I really got into the feel of things. I was surprised to actually be doing better than I expected (Including some really nice fights versus higher ranked players).
Of course I am still learning (I’m hardly best mesmer EU
), I don’t know all the tricks and special tactics of different maps but I do know my profession of by heart and so I’m making slow but steady progress and taking my first ‘baby steps’ into the oh so scary world of tournaments.
I’d also like to point out that not having played a lot of sPvP does not necessarily mean those people that haven’t are automatically bad players (as some in this thread seem to insinuate) new players are just that, new. They have to learn the ropes just like everyone else had to but some of these new players could turn out to be really good players who will stick around and refresh the sPvP scene with new competition.
As for me in just a couple of days time I gotten myself up to rank 10 (Deer
) in between my other engagements and continued playing well after my monthly was done. I also seen the same thing happen in my guild suddenly a lot of people are doing tournaments and actually enjoying them, learning and enjoying the experience even after having done the monthly.
Sure some people will stop playing PvP after they have gotten their laurels but I honestly believe a lot of people will continue to play PvP and improve. This is a good thing, this makes for more people to fight competitively against, more people bringing in more people into the scene and I think this laurel mistake in the longer term will do more good than harm. I know it’s probably annoying to have so many newcomers around right now but you have to look at the big picture here.
I agree that there can be improvements in the queuing system, it’s not fun for either side if lower ranked players are put up against a 40+ pre-made party with voice com and it’s not fun for them to have such an easy time of it. But just because the queue system can do with improvement it doesn’t mean overall this isn’t a nice little boost for the sPvP scene.
Anyway, I will be enjoying tPvP more often from now on as will a lot of other people. Once the major laurel influx has worn off there will be a lot of new players still playing who will learn and get better. Just got to give us a chance and not instantly write us all off as ‘Insert various derogatory and condescending insults here’
just look forward to new teams and players to challenge you
See you in battle,
Lilyfay
It’s always nice to see new faces
good luck
The problem with the ele is the water trait line. It has the best healing traits and some of the best damage traits at the same time.
I think the 10% damage when HP is almost full and the 2% damage/boon should be moved to fire or air lines. Right now you can use 30 points on water and heal+dps at the same time.
By the way, eles are not as overpowered as they used to be. They are definitely a better class, but not gods like people tend to think in these forums.

There is no arena deathmatch coming soon. The main pvp mode is conquest and the tournaments will remember you of RBG in wow but with 3 nodes to cap and 5 players in each team.
Each node gives 1 point/second and each kill 5 points. To win you must reach 500 points. Every map has also a secondary mechanic:
-Forest of Nifhel: it has 2 bosses that give 25 points on kill and a buff. To get the kill your team has to do the last hit
-Legacy of the Foefire: each team has a “castle” and a guild lord protected by doors and guards. Killing the enemy lord gives 150 points to your team.
-Battle of Kyhlo: each team has a trebuchet that deals huge damage. You have to deffend and repair yours if you want to use it. You can also destroy your enemy trebuchet to prevent the damage.
- Temple of the silent storm: Buffs spawn on the map at given time and you have to fight your enemy to take them. The minor buff will grant your team +3 points on kill. The other buffs spawn less and one gives you 2x points from nodes and the other one captures all nodes on the map.
- Spirit watch: Just like eots in wow, here you carry an orb. If you deliver an orb to an enemy node you decap it.
Game is not that imbalanced as people say in the forums. Sure it has its flaws but balance here is 1000 times better than wow’s, so it won’t be a problem for you. Anet’s philosophy is to do small changes on classes, it’s not nerf elevator like in wow. Right now the only class that might not be viable in high end pvp is the warrior. The others are fine.
To enjoy the pvp i really recommend you to play with people you know. If you don’t have friends playing in gw2 go for soloqueue and add to friends those players that are good.
Welcome to the jungle
Note: also, don’t take the forums very seriously. We like to complain between tournaments and explain how much we hate this game and arenanet, but then we are always playing 24/7 lol
(edited by Rerroll.9083)
I tried sPvP during beta and at release. I hated it intensely and never went back. Then I read that I could get laurels for doing my PvP Monthly, so I went to the mists and gave it another try. After a few hours of frustration and getting totally stomped most matches by premade teams I started to get how the matches worked and did some tweaking to my build to provide a bit more support and defense to my team. I did a few more hotjoins to iron the kinks out, and decided to give the solo queue tournaments a try. My PUG team got stomped, but this time I did something very bad.
We were losing so bad that I just stayed dead and watched the enemy team for a bit to see how they were beating us so well. I was impressed, and they showed some fairly amazing teamwork. I’d never seen anything like that in WvW or Dungeons. These guys knew each other’s builds inside and out, and worked remarkably well together.
Now, I actually kind of like PvP and will probably keep doing. It’s unlikely that I’ll join a guild or be part of any premade team, but the laurel Carrot on a Stick has drawn me into a portion of the game that I had totally written off as a waste of time. In addition, fighting against teams that far outmatch my own skill level has given me an opportunity to learn different ways that professions can work together that I never would have been exposed to otherwise.
And all I had to do was feed some dudes an easy win in tPvP a few times.
I like the change, and hope it sticks around. Not everyone is “just in it for their monthly,” though that might be why they tried it the first time.
Nice read. Good luck!
Yeah game has potential, everyone has said this at one point. No one knows what devs are doing. Somehow they don’t want to make money nor a good pvp game.
Game is actually fun, but playing the same map vs the same teams with the same builds burns out.
But hey, we have a living story and zerg vs zerg. Everyone will remember us for it.
Nonsense.
Im experiencing the same
It’s happening for many people I think.
It definitely was. Quickness allowed to fast stomp, fast rez and even as autowin button if using timewarp. It definitely destroyed the fun in pvp.
Sure it’s a kitten change for warriors, but when we look at quickness as a game mechanic, it was too powerful.
We need a rank 10 restriction. Today i had to play with a r1 in my team that clearly had no idea what was going on. He didn’t even try to cap any empty node but he had to fight vs r40 and r50 people. Ofc, he just died over and over.
Also, flawless matchmaking
This should definitely be 1st priority.
Would bring esports closer.
i heard elo hell
Enable PK in heart of the mists!!!!!!!! lol
so they could just copy the fractals pattern?
Im not very sure because i never played pve, but I thought fractal maps were already random?
Right now custom arenas, leaderboards and spectator mode are higher in the priority queue, but this is still something we’ll be dealing with later.
Also keep in mind that once custom arenas hit, you (the players) can decide what maps you’re playing on, so we think that’ll help when you organize your own games. But yes, for tourneys, we still want to get more map variety.
Alright thanks for the information. Would it be too much work to change the map daily until we get the random maps? It would improve the tpvp experience a lot
Yeah and now we have to play forest of nifhel for a few days…
I fail to understand how hard can it be to randomize maps. This feature should also be in custom arenas so they should work on it…
Still looking for answers to this question:
Is the no map rotation temporary? Are you working on it?
Same map is killing pvp
If you can’t randomize it maybe a predefined rotation shared by all teams would help.
ie: one team joins foefire, next one joins kyhlo etc
No, in GW2 we only like to play PVE events vs artificial intelligence. We dont like real things happening nor people fighting in our magnific open world.
T1: banner warrior and minion necro
T2: engi, mesmer, thief, guardian, ranger
worst tier: ele
deal with it
1, Let players be seen on the map and in the team window however far away from you they are on the map.
2, Show enemy players who are visible to another of your players as a red dot on the map (most key change)
3, Put a number instead of a green dot as your players on the map. So player 1 in the team will be a green “1” and player 2 will be a green “2”
4, Add in game emotes – So people can call out that they need help or that everything is fine where they are.1) This will be addressed when spectator mode is released.
2) This would be very helpful, though I have some reserves on its potential correctness.
3) See below.
4) We’ve certainly brought this up before, but it hasn’t gotten traction yet.i would prefer a class icon instead of the number
We’re experimenting with this right now.
Nice post! You could copy smite’s emote system:
- VC1 = “Be careful left!”
- VC2 = “Be careful middle!”
- VF3 = “Enemy missing right!”
- VRR = “Retreat!”
- VGN = “Nice job!”
theres a very long list
We could have generic emotes: “Deffend close point!” “Enemy incoming middle!”
and map specific emotes: “Enemy trebuchet shooting!” “Attack enemy guild lord!”
In smite it’s really useful and helps soloqueuers fight premades.
The most important thing in Pv kitten till skill.
And yes, the meta has been quite stagnant because people did not try out new stuff.
I saw Power-Necros and Warriors on EU prior last patch though too. Also once GW2 gets launched in China expect the chinese players to pick up the most unorthodox and effective builds when crafting a team composition.
Edit: Curse and NN are playing again. Not sure about Idle, they are playing but not all too much.
Reading this post I found out gw2 is gonna be released in China (apparently 1st beta is very soon)
I checked their official forums (thanks google chrome for translating) and I realized some of them are already theorycrafting and following our most known streamers on twitch.
China meta is going to destroy us. Even if they get the game 1 year later.
It’s funny how USA developed the game and pvp wise: China > EU > USA
Also: their site is 100 times better than ours :/
just use dots with each class colour
Everything described by op is 100% needed and should have been released with the game
(edited by Rerroll.9083)
Really, pve is the illness that will kill gw2
Good luck with the team see you in game
I also think some strategies & builds are still undiscovered.
People is just too lazy, why do they have to try new strategies and builds when they can run mindless triple cantrip ele?
And that’s the main issue of having hidden MMR. The matchmaking is actually working, the problem is since you can’t see the numbers you assume r40+ must have high MMR.
The other team probably had low MMR because they had not played for a while or the queue was so long it looked for a higher rating and you didnt lose much MMR.
Yeah, if you just look at how we began in beta
- Hot join
- 3 round tournament playing all maps available
And how we are now:
- Hot join
- 1 round tournament. Sure we have more maps, but we only play 1
- Matchmaking
We only got
- the matchmaking
- and less playable maps.
And that happened in 7 months since release, a few more since betas
With the disable of 3 round tourneys, i dont think anyone is willing to play the same map over and over for X days
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/pvp/pvp/8-Team-Tournaments-Disabled/first#post1722047
Same map rotation has been around for a long time already. It was supposed to be a temporary fix until random rotation was developed. But we have had it for 3 months already (I think it was added on january, correct me if im wrong) and it’s getting old.
For any team training or playing for a long session, maps get old really fast. If you ever liked one map, you will get tired of it really soon. This rotation also allows some teams to bring the “best” classes and builds for every map killing the fun, class and build variety. For example, on spirit watch week you only see teams running 3 eles with arcane shield.
I really think this issue should be looked at because once ladders are released and players start taking their ladder seriously, we will see the same classes with the same builds over and over (yeah, even worse than it is already).
I also think that once maps are finally random, there should be a few restrictions for class/build swapping once players get to know the map they are going to play. But that’s another topic…
for pvp? try phantaram’s
http://intothemists.com/calc/?build=-k34;2B2-P0w47N-Z0;9;5J-JT;159;245-40ALJ;4G3G3G3G34BS
If you think you are too squishy try divinity runes and maybe switch arcane blast for arcane shield
Fire elemental is the best one. Damage is way higher than other elemental’s
Can we talk about “meta” when there are only 2-4 competitive teams?
