They wont add gem rewards to a free to join tournament.
I think you shouldnt play much hot join, just to learn the basics.
I recommend you to try playing tournaments instead.
Atm the map is already a lot of fun, i would be careful with the changes.
Locking all skills is way too much, but maybe all mobility skills should be looked at.
I never played gw1 but HA sounds fun
Definitely something that would be nice to have in gw2
Dont join empty servers, dont click “go now”
Just find a server with 8-15 players and join it.
If you go to a 2 people server its obvious they want a fair fight or a duel. If they are rude to you, add them to your friend list and follow them to every server and dont let them duel.
yeah :8, just some bug fixing
go to news section, you have the patch there
i also think the orb should be spawned in one side of the corpse
100% agree, it’s nice to see some answers in the pvp forums
Dont forget pvpers will be the ones that will stay and support the game after all pvers move to next themepark mmo! Show us some love
If your allies are far from you, you cant see them on your minimap. Even if you are in group with them.
It has always happened when you werent in group with team mates, but in spirit watch it happens always. I think this should fixed if we are aiming for competitive games
linking like a baws
id suggest increasing the rank points you gain if your rating is high.
Let’s say #1 world would gain 150% rank points and #worstworld 100% rank points. Everyone else could be between those numbers
we dont care about hot joins, its awesome in tourneys
Im also enjoying the patch (after i managed to fix the lag, its huge!)
97% yes
3% no
Keep voting guys
Like I said, it already exists. You can Q with 4 people and get 1 as a pug, this has always existed in free tournaments, and now all tournaments are free, therefore it exists in all tournaments.
The " new " MMR system adjusts for it as well, but the reason people are crying and saying they’re playing premades is becuase the MMR is brand new and fresh, the system hasn’t adjusted to your skill level yet, so obviously you’re going to play people with skewed results.
Patience.
Right now we have our 1 round rating and 3 round rating, we want to change this for our solo rating and our team rating.
I think its needed.
But really it should be solo/duo Q. That way you can Q up with one friend, even if you dont have an entire team. This already exists.
The idea is to play vs and with other solo queuers, not full premades

In short words: do you want to see solo&duo queue implemented?
Answer in the poll below!

Dont forget to bump this thread, we want to get as many votes (for either yes or no) as possible
Lets make it democratic!
This poll should have as much votes as thread views. Vote yes or no, it’s as easy as 2 clicks. Make your voice heard!!

You have two separate tourny ques at this moment. One for 3 round and one for 1 round. In a blog post you guys said that they had separate matchmaking. Paid tournaments previously demonstrated that you guys have the ’’feature’’ in place to force someone to be 5 premade players to que in to the match. You also now have a ‘’join solo’’ button.
If you piece these pieces together you get:
1.Make one tournament que ‘’join solo’’ only, 1 round
2. Make the other que ‘’submit roster’’ with 5 only , 1 roundLE VOILA!
It’s okay, we can scrap the idea of duoq for now. Put that in your ’’soon’’ basket. You can do the same for the random map generator, just keep rotating maps manually the way you guys do every 2 days or something.There. That is the solution that will allow solo players to play the game without getting stomped by teams.
So in this suggestion, people would only play as a team of 5 or by themselves. That would mean effectively disabling tournaments for people who want to play tournaments with a friend. Or two friends, or three friends, but don’t have a full team. I can’t imagine that would go over very well either.
You would please:
- full team queue (5 man)
- solo & duo (1 and 2 man)
Which is the majority of players. Teams of 3 or 4 must represent a 5% and they can always find 1 guy in the mists chat! They will also be motivated to create a full team and practice!
The community, whole of it, is claiming for soloqueue. Everyone is asking for the same. Maybe devs should seriously think about implementing it.
Just make 3 round or 1 round tournaments only-joinable as an individual, they already have a different rating so i cant see the problem of implementation.
- Extremely easy to implement. Just disable group queue for one format
- The queues will be as separated as they are already. 1 round and 3 round
- Community will be happy, finally!!
The lag in pvp is HUGE.
Experiencing the same.
When i play in baruch bay, i dont lag that bad. However on desolation its unplayable (in the heart of the mists). Also when I join a pvp match the lag is HUGE.
—> I only lag when playing in crowded servers. During the morning i dont have any lag.
—> WTFast fixes (althought not 100%) the lag. The thing is you have to pay a monthly fee for WTFast and i thought GW2 was just b2p
—> I dont lag in hot joins, just in tournaments

bumping this, also looking for a competitive team since solo queue fails
<Player looking for a team>
Ingame name: Rerroll
Main Class / Potential Classes (Incase team requires):
My main is the ele (every build, 2k++ games with this profession) but i also play the mesmer. Atm im learning the necro, too.
Region:
EU (spain, barcelona) gmt+1
Practice Times:
Any time, except in the morning. I can be very active.
Experience:
I have been playing since game released. I’m only r44 so far because I combined gw2 with wow arena.
Here in gw2 I have been in many guilds and I even created one [UP] with a few friends I enjoy pvping with but they moved to other games sigh
Other (Anything else that you would like to add):
I’m looking for a team that still takes this game seriously, if there’s any. I still have some hopes for gw2 and I enjoy the gameplay & theorycrafting, so I’d like a team that allows me to be in a decent position once the ladder is released.
edit: still looking for a team!
(edited by Rerroll.9083)
- August-September: The game is released. The hype about competitive pvp and the number of teams is HUGE. However, there is so many people playing that its impossible for good teams to fight each other, so pvp becomes a pug stomping 500-0. Some teams start to quit.
- October: Paid tournaments are implemented. Teams are hyped up and we see a few ones being created.
- November: The only pvp addition we see is temple of the silent storm. This map will be ignored because its not in the tournament rotation, so it becomes a meaningless addition. More people quits pvp because
a) abuse of svanir & air runes
b) they see paid tournaments are just a grind
- December: There is nothing for pvpers. More people quiting, mists are really dead & boring during christmas days. A few teams discover the OPness of eles, and their set up will be copied by others.
Pvpers are quite angry at the direction the game is taking, but from anet its said that 2013 will be the great year of pvp.
- January: Paid tournaments become 1 round map. This map will be the only playable for 7 days and more and more people get tired of the game. Playing the same map for 5 hours daily (7*5=35) make the mists even less active. At this point only 3-4 teams in the EU remain, and many people is abusing the ele.
There’s also the addition of some sort of matchmaking, but no one knows how it work and there isn’t a ladder to check your position.
- February: Paid tournaments (the only addition since game release) are deleted. Althought a ladder was promised for this patch it wasn’t released.
The balance made doesn’t change the actual meta, and a new conquest map is released.
All in all, in half a year pvpers got:
1) Paid tournaments that were deleted afterwards (sigh)
2) Matchmaking without a ladder (??)
3) 2 conquest maps
It’s too easy to take the orb, cast should be longer
Oh, people still play this game?? You guys really believe that anet is capable of fixing the game?? The fact is they cant, its funny how history repeats itself….just look at Guild Wars 1.Nuff said…. Amen!!
Go back to WoW.
I did.
Bye
See you next month
No skills on staff??
> THE ELE NERF!!
^
calm down its just a game
If you die you cant rez
You have to relog
I would also go for
Solo queue: 3 round map
Team queue: 1 round map
looks like a custom arena
Rofl wasnt there a statement were they told that portal does not work with orbs?
You could leave a portal at the orb. Go to your home point. Open portal, channel Orb and port back. Yay instacap.
Channeling only seems to be 2-3 seconds.
Is it intended?
Nice idea!
gogogo!
How hard would it be for devs to allow only solo or duo queue for this kind of tourneys?
My suggestion:
· dont implement pvp content without asking the players opinion on forums. This way you won’t have to rollback things and work on something that is really needed.
This is insulting
Could someone confirm the articlce?
Why ppl is Expecting lot of things like they dont know whats comming? is that HOPE?
Tomorrow you are getting THIS: https://www.guildwars2.com/en/the-game/releases/february-2013/
Plus Few Minor Class Changes…
No, there is not custom arenas, spectator mode or new game mode for Spvp, neither big class changes….so beside this…what else matter? hopefully the Rating system could be fine so put your hopes in it for tomorrow and stop the hype about a “Game Changer Patch” … =S
But we will be able to preview item in the trading post
Priority list should be something like this
1) Paids = random map
2) Custom arenas
3) Rating/ladder
4) Soloq
5) spectator
We are lucky they are working hard to make it in time before population is gone

Was it published on April fools’ day?
It sounds like they had big plans for November-January, but the reality is that those months had very little to offer for PvP, with Temple and the new Paid system being the only really notable changes (invisible matchmaking to a lesser extent). They’ve said numerous times that making new maps is relatively easy, meaning that Silent Storm/Spirit Watch can’t have sucked up that much of their development time. So where did all of their plans go? What exactly interfered with their schedule when visible changes have been so rare?
Custom Arenas were taking longer than our original estimation, so we temporarily postponed the feature to get the Ratings & Matchmaking system in. While I won’t say how close the Custom Arena feature is to release. I will say that we are back to working on it, as well as Spectator Mode – as hinted at by Colin’s “Guild Wars 2 in the Months Ahead” January announcement.
good to know
Wow, old thread. But…somehow still relevant.
We totally agree! We’re working on another upcoming PvP stuff update that’ll be coming out shortly once we’ve verified everything is working correctly.
We’ve actually posted in a number of threads here (now no longer on the front page) detailing what our plans are in the near future for SPvP, as well as posted a blog post that summarizes what’s coming shortly, and the build note preview on paid tournaments for the Halloween update. We’ll be going into more detail specific about competitive pvp next week on the blog including screenshots and feature descriptions, and of course will continue to update in these forums as well.
Transparency in every part of the game is very important to us, and I think you’ll be thrilled so see how quickly new features for pvp come rolling online over the next few months. This is a huge focus for us, and a community and part of the game we take very seriously, and we’ll strive to keep making sure you all know what we’ve got planned, and where we’re taking the game to reach its ultimate long term goals.
Posted 4 months ago. What went wrong?

This guy is 100% right
map will be randomized, just wait 1 more week
custom arenas:D:D:D:D:
Darnis, my beloved froob.
Those guys you are playing or seeing around you, are pve newbies that testing pvp.
The competitive players that been into PVP since DAY 1 are NOT playing at this moment or if there are some left are below the number you suggested. This is the concern me and some guys here are trying to point out to the ARENANET developers. If the guys that make specs, meta’s, and can bring your game into any kind of competitive leagues are GONE, you will end up with the players like yourself wich are CASUAL or PVE’ers, whatever you want to call it.Have a nice day.
Bro, the game is not dead just because you left. Take a break, and come back in 1 or 2 months and enjoy pvp again. That’s what I did and it worked wonders!
too much effort
2/10
And this week some people just came back, it was even worse a few days ago.
October was make or break.
Afterwards november was make or break.
Then came december & January.
Let’s see february.
This thread is gold. I hope devs read it.
incoming STEALTH CUSTOM SERVERS on the 26th.
Dont play with my feelings
