I have to laugh every time BG complains about SoR zergballing. The last 2-3 nights I have been in JQ BL, it was around 25-30 of my guildees and I trying to perform with our numbers. We’d fight the first BG Zerg we find, realize its our 25-30 against their 45-50, and get wiped. We’d then meet up with TSYM, even up the numbers, and farm BG for the night. It’s crazy what you can do with even numbers eh? Shame we can’t have even numbered fights with BG unless we create a zergball as well..
Hmm..let’s see, a 30 person guild group combined with the whole zerg of TSYM fighting against what you claim to be 45 BG (and we all know how we like to exaggerate our enemy numbers), and you are wondering why people are complaining the zergball of SoR?
Slightly off topic, but the lack of gvg is killing this game. Lack of guild recognition in wvw is also killing this game.
The whole 24/7 around to clock system is also flawed. The system is burning everyone out.
I am seeing it with my own eyes that people are quitting this game left and right. My guild has lost 70-80% of its active members since August last year.
Other than WvW, there is absolutely nothing in this game that allows for community building. And the WvW community is highly depending on winning the matches. You start losing and people starts leaving. See SBI, SOS, IOJ, CD, etc.
The wvw environment is highly toxic in general. With trolls, spies and saboteurs everywhere. PUGs also don’t like to be ordered around by larger guilds. Many small guilds have hatred toward all WvW guilds, and show no appreciation and acknowledgement of what WvWers are doing for them. Many small guilds run 10+men havoc teams to flip camps, while making a point not to talk on map chat so they stay invisible to the bigger guilds. It happened in SBI, and it is starting to happen in Kaineng too.
Actually the guild mission has introduced a lot of community building in the game as guilds help each other out. I think playing for ppt has got into your head too much, probably should sit back and relax a little bit. Just play for the thrill of killing people maybe?
Well, seems the situation in T1 is doomed. Regardless if it’s BG or TC (if it moves up), they all have bad blood with SoR, which will make JQ happy…I guess the only solution is BG suddenly get all its burned out players back and push SoR to T2, ha!
Since now we have a new lead on WvW development team, I’d like to start a thread where we can list the most important things we believe that should be done to WvW. Please keep it short to maximally 3 to 4 items.
I will start with mine, start from the most important:
1. Tweak mechanisms to change the current meta of one whole map zerg ball; increase WXP for defense and other non-kill/capture activities.
2. Add new content to WvW (new map, new skills from WvW rank).
3. Reduce skill lag in large encounters.
I think GW2 aims more towards lighthearted people that are not super competitive in nature. While people who are more dense and very competitive tend to not like it as much.
Something like this would be good. Before the loot bag drop rate change, you used to be able to get more loot bags when you roam in small groups. Though the loot bag drop rate change is a good thing, I would like ANET to add something similar to the old system to the WEXP system.
We don’t really have a meta back then as people are clueless about combat mechanics.
I beg to differ. You obviously have little clue about kind of wars, spying, politics, organization within alliances and strategically and tactical cooperation in wvw was there before and how much work, planing, team meetings and discussions was involved. People started preparing for WvW as early as first BWEs, and by the last one there were already proper alliances wars. First week of release where chaotic, but after a month when majority was lvl 80 – a competition like never before started.
In NA there were only two alliances that got truly organized before WvW began (and only 1 has true coverage and organization), now most servers (at least top 3-4 tiers) have an organized community that has the same or better level of organization, within server communication, and strategically and tactical cooperation compared to those alliances. BWE is a period of per-organized alliances, now we have entered a period where each server is truly an alliance of itself.
I know you’d like to think fondly of the BWE period and believe that’s the pinnacle of GW2 WvW since you experienced it personally, however the fact is game has evolved since then. Servers got more organized, guilds began to learn combat mechanics, profession composition, and field tactics that they had no clue at beginning of the game. Though I think the current meta is a bit inferior to what we had one month ago due to the new system encourages zerging, it still incorporates a significant amount of elements that we learned through 6 months of wvw and is still definitely much better compared to what we had at beginning.

Frankly the metagame is so much better than what WvW was at beginning of the game even with the current zerging going on. We don’t really have a meta back then as people are clueless about combat mechanics. It’s the spread of GvG that really introduced how much more depth in large scale combat GW2 has to most of the guilds.
True, but how does one find a fitting guild? I’ve been in 5 or 6 so far, and none of them was the sort of guild I was looking for. The main reason is that in other games, there were ways to rank/sort guilds. For example, in Aion you had total abyss points. Then if you were really hardcore, you could apply for the 1) guild and if you were very casual you’d pick something like 20). In RIFT you had raid progress which could also give you this indication. In GW2 there is nothing, so all you can do is shout LF GUILD in Lion’s Arch, and hope you can find some people with your mindset. So far, I have not succeeded.
Apart from this, I think the multi-guild system also greatly reduces the sort of “natural closeness” between guildies, since they are a lot less important if there’s a few other guilds that can replace them with a simple mouse click.
If you are looking for hardcore guilds (or avoid those) like you indicated in your post, the best way to do so is to join your server’s community forum. Except couple servers, most of the forums are well organized and you will know the well known guilds (at least WvW ones) from reading the forum. You can also just join WvW and see which guilds the well known commanders are from and join them.
Of course it only works for WvW guilds, but I assume most PvE guilds are quite casual anyway.
if everyone gets skill lag, it’s a server side issue. If it’s just you, then tone down your options.
Heh, seems we are breaking record every week. Last week BG got its first win in T1, this week SOR got its first win against BG, wondering what’s in store next week?
I really do wish RIOT decides to stay with BG, you guys have been with us for quite a long time and it always feels good to boast you guys as our server’s example of elite small team:)
I think most of BG are taking a break right now. I am sure we will be back later in the week though:)
i didn’t know they nerfed sieges for antipersonal?
well, there are probably more players in Tier 1 WvW servers alone than pvp players in swtor, so I guess it’s fair.

Hi, my recent testing shows that runes of grenth is bugged. It applies approximately 1 second of chill on heal instead of the 3 seconds. Condition duration and chill duration bonus from the runes also does not apply. Right now the rune is completely useless, please fix it when you have the chance, thank you.
Well I jumped into gw2 late thinking it was going to be my next Dark Age of Camelot. Needless to say I was wrong… I have been disappointed by the lack of other groups roaming BGs like you would see with 8mans in DAoC.
My desired playstyle is not meant as an insult, because I know the amount of planning and coordination that is used in an SF main force, but I have no fun doing that sort of thing… let alone when you have 100+ people in an area and you have skill lag… you want to kitten off a PvPer? Prevent him/her from using his/her skills lol.
If you are looking for roaming groups from BG, check out guilds like RIOT and oPP, they are small guilds focused on roaming with around 5 people. Also as another poster said, if you are looking for small group fights, better show a different guild tag than SF, small groups tend to avoid you because we thought you are just vanguards of a large force.
Congratulation JQ, you fought a very hard battle today and earned a worthy comeback. The fighting tonight is intense, even though we can barely break 200 ppt tonight, I am sure BG won’t give up and still give you a run for the next 20 hours:)
ICoa is a respectable guild on BG and we really appreciate how much work their leaders have put into making their guild and the server as a whole better. I find it despicable how a few SoR forum warriors constantly tries to provoke and belittle this great guild. ICoa, don’t get baited by those trolls on the forum, find and kill them on battlefield:)
I think you can draw a few conclusions from what we’re seeing on the scoreboard. To begin with, JQ has no major EU guild coverage. Hence, it’s reasonably safe to presume that BG will continue to post 300-400 ppt during the weekdays and remain dominant during that time.
I am actually a bit curious about JQ’s euro coverage. Last time BG was in T1, you guys gave us a really hard time during EU time and often got 400+ PPT in late EU time. Nothing has really changed to BG’s EU coverage and yet the result on Monday is quite different. Do you guys know why?
For those of you keep hearing the rumors that blackgate bought the guilds from SoS and want to know the truth, please read this post:
Please stop spreading baseless rumors, thank you!
Are SoR and BG arch rivals?
There is a certain level of mutual dislike between BG and SoR. I don’t know about SoR, but for BG, while we respect SoR warriors on the field, we really don’t like SoR’s forum warriors.
That being said, let’s not get baited by the trolls this time and stay out of forum wars, BG:)
In any case, unless they can say otherwise it seems like the guilds leaving SoS are not leaving due to any “drama”, but merely because they are looking for a place where they can win.
It does seems that at least a bit of drama was involved in their reasons for leaving. If you haven’t, check this, interesting read. http://gw2.junkiesnation.com/2013/02/23/guildcenter-exclusive-tsym-creates-uproar-votf-threatens-to-depart-sea-of-sorrows/
Is there another dolyak parade today? How can I join?
What happened to SoS? I thought they should have a much stronger NA than what is showing right now.
Celebrity Score Update!
These are hilarious, need more of them.
Got to hand it to the BG EU guilds, they are one hell of a headache. If we didn’t have WM I probably would have morphed into a magoomba by now and started complaining about coverage, because nothing stops BG during EU prime-time.
Do all the T1 servers have strong EU guilds or is this Blackgate’s particular strength?
Either way this matchup is making me want to get better at the game (i.e. roll a guardian) which is just what I needed to keep me enjoying the game.
I hope Tier 2 is home now.
I would say we BG have the second best EU coverage among t1 servers only next to JQ. However JQ’s coverage is crazy though. While our EU strength primarily relies on two guilds HB and RK, JQ relies more on pure raw numbers during that time it seems.

I really hope ANET listens to the community this time instead of going headstrong into this idea of having 1 week long matches reset. The developers are taking a huge unnecessary risk with their decision. If the community is against it and they decide to do this anyway, in case it does cause month long suffering for most of the servers, this moment will be remembered by players as GW2’s equivalent to SWG’s NGE legacy.
Here’s why we think this is a good thing.
If it helps, think of the last few months as the preseason games that determined the initial seedings for the season opener (to use a really generic sports metaphor that is in no way indicative of future plans).
Finally, matches are going to remain a week long. We feel that the 24 hour matches are not representative of what we consider ‘standard’ gameplay, and actually create a lot of incorrect data in the system because people play the game much differently when it’s a 24 hour match compared to a 7 day one.
Mike, I don’t agree with your opinion that since 24 hour match is not always a good reflection of week long match, we should stick with week long match for data accuracy.
First, while 24 hour match is not always accurate, the alternative of sticking with 1 week long match has a much bigger negative impact. The main negative of 24 hour match is just that after the first week of 24 hour matches, you may have couple tiers experience 1 or 2 addition week of uneven fights. Under week long matches, most of servers are going to experience at least 1 month uneven fights that really discourage players from playing. I think the cost of un-fun playing for weeks or months certainly outweigh the cost of a having a few uneven tiers for couple weeks.
Second, you seem to underestimate the accuracy of 24 hour matches as proxy for server strength. Based on past 4 months of playing, when servers of uneven strength face each other, the results are typically decided in the first 24 to 48 hours of reset night. Week long match is only relevant when servers already have roughly equivalent strength and the week long match helps to decide rankings within a tier. To accurately settle servers to respective tiers, 1 week of 24 hour matches is plenty.
Third, you seem to underestimate the negative impact of 1 week long matches. The gap between server strengths has significantly widened compare to 4 months ago. A tier 1 server can easily completely dominate a tier 3/4 server within 24 hours, the “freshness” of new matches is not going to last long when most matches are lopsided since first day of the match. In addition, many servers have already experienced weeks of uneven matches where players have stopped playing. Many of them start to think things are finally stabilizing, with week long matches, these players are going to experience weeks of uneven fights again, and that is going to have huge impact on player interest and active wvw population.
I do believe that reset ratings is a good idea as too many inaccurate historical data has been built up due to population migration. However, I would like you to seriously reconsider using 1 week long matches to determine new rankings. Thank you.
(edited by Reslinal.2359)
I think it’s fine if they do the 24 hour matches. If they are going to do it using the week long match, it’s gonna take weeks or even months before everyone can get a decent fight.
This sounds horrible, Habib if you decided to do this, can we have the 24 hour matches again to get ratings into place quickly?
Actually I am not sure how it’s going to work after next week. Say next week in current T1 JQ wins and SOR is the last, and T5 Yak’s Bend get first. Does it mean there’s a chance JQ is going to fight Yak’s Bend the week after since their ratings may be closer?
Just wondering are you guys going back to Euro servers from the sound of it? If it’s true sad to see you guys go, you will be missed.
Hi, I have not been able to gain access to trading post for the past two months on my mac client. I have another gw2 installed on another windows laptop and the trading post works fine there. Is there anyway you can help address the issue? Thank you!
Haven’t posted on the forums in a while, but wanted to pop into this WvW thread to say I have very much enjoyed this match up. I’m on SBI. I popped into WvW a little off and on before, but this match up has been enough fun that I keep coming back. My PvP skills are very lacking, but I’ve managed to get lucky a few times. I even got my monthly WvW kill achievement for the first time ever. THANK YOU to SoR, TC, and of course, SBI for the fun. Hopefully I’ll get better and be able to contribute more.
Same here!! been on and of WvW while SBI is still on tier 1. But since SBI moved to tier 2, i felt a bit of responsibility to contribute for SBI. This match up is been really fun, so i decided to leave wow (for the time being) & spent most of my gaming time WvW-ing.
Thanks to SoR & TC for the match up.. keep up the good work SBI!
That’s pretty cool. What is it you’re likimg most with this matchup?
I have to say the sportsmanship of the 3 servers in this thread & in the game. Unlike the previous match-up, the forum is full with cheat/hack accusations, forum trolls & trash talk. IMO this thread is more “civilized”.
The posts of the first several weeks of the BG/SOR/IOJ matches were also full of sportsmanship, it will be interesting to see how long the sportsmanship among the current three servers will last…
We are going to crush your prime time tonight as well covenn, the pain train is coming today, hahaha….
The pain train is coming today. SoR you won’t enjoy your lead for too long, hahaha…
To be fair, after 4 weeks the forum posting is finally getting a bit interesting. I am tired of hearing the same “fun fights”, “GJ everyone” talk anymore. Hopefully the rivalry can spice things up a bit, WvW is getting a little stale.
BG- 6866, 215 ppt
SoR- 6751, 285 ppt
IoJ- 5539, 195 pptSame thing as always, SoR wins NA, then BG comes in for pvedoor against both realms, then IoJ will come in to pvedoor after that, then NA will come around again and SoR will win that time slot, etc etc etc
Nothing has really changed. Personally, I’m still waiting for any guild on any of the servers to accept our guild v guild challenge.
Though as a side note, it’s been fun in BG BL today. Good fights as always.
Hmm..it’s only 12:15 p.m Est and 9:15 p.m PST when you posted the score. It seems BG is winning the NA not SoR..
Both PvE and SPvP have received their developer AMA (in the case of spvp, a state of game discussion) in the last couple weeks. Yet despite being mentioned by Chris Whiteside, we haven’t heard any plan for a developer AMA for WvW yet.
So I am wondering should we expect to see a WvW AMA soon? Is there a time frame we can expect this to happen? Thank you!
The game play in WvW is getting stale day by day. Considering people are already getting tired of WvW three months after game launched, I am afraid by the time the WvW stuff roll out in February, it will be too little too late. ANET really needs to act fast and communicate much more with our WvW players, where is our WvW AMA?.
The stat increase with current introduced ascended gear is small enough that I can afford to not care about it and stick with my exotics. Once the full ascended gears are introduced they better implement some ways to get ithem n WvW, otherwise i will quit the game.
5vs5 servers are already in game…Just scroll down the server browser and you will see them
DarkWalker, no offense but the things you like about planetside2 are exactly the things I don’t like and I think WvW does better. If anything, I’d like WvW to have bigger maps so that both roaming space and running time increases…I really think SPvP probably suits your play style better as it’s instant action.
Quite frankly, yes.
Which is why servers should be more pro-active.
And this isn’t Blackgate’s first incident with hacking/exploiting. You guys had a major incident about it in T1.
Blame yourselves for not improving your behavior and taking cheating lightly.
Once again, you can’t blame people that they don’t take you seriously anymore.
How are servers supposed to improve its behavior when it’s composed of thousands of people that come and go at will….and i bet the people that hacked in T1 are not even on Blackgate anymore.
Anyway this argument about hacking has been debated enough and I don’t want to degrade the thread anymore. If you want to hold your grudge against BG because of action of some individuals, that’s fine. I am sure there are other people on BG and IOJ that hold the same grudge against SoR for the same reason. See you on the battlefield.
Not sure considering the white haired ICOA mesmer was right there.
I don’t see why we should give you the benefit of the doubt quite frankly.
BG has to earn it’s reputation back.
Does it mean we should start questioning every SoR keep taking now as well since some member of your TID guild exploited earlier? By the same logic as yours SoR has to earn its reputation back as well…
But the point is we should not let the action of a few bad apples in our respective servers ruin the match. Bad things happened and both ICoa and TID are addressing the mistakes of their member. Stop pointing fingers and let’s all have a good fight, the match is epic so far.
Scores are all still pretty close, don’t think anything is set yet.
Though it seems BG has overall better coverage through out the day again so it may win out.
Unless IoJ and SoR manage to gang up on BG for a significant period of time, may get the same results as last week.
IoJ doesn’t seem to have as much as SoR, and SoR doesn’t seem to have as much as BG.
Though the primetime fights, when all 3 sides have a presence, they are quite epic.
Part of the reason it seems BG has better coverage is because we are doing a server wide push started Monday. So a lot of guilds are calling everyone and doing over hours. I imagine the coverage difference will become less when the push is over. We don’t want to give up #1 spot in T2 without a fight:)
