Legendary Grind lousy comp. to Fractal Skin

So… it’s ok for there to be skins that are long grinds to work towards so long as they’re not the skins you want? That’s how this appears to be coming across. Legendary weapon skins – OK to have a long grind. You want Fractal skin – therefore not OK to have a long grind. You’re making the choice to go after something you know flat out is meant to be rare to get. The odds are small, meaning it’s possible you never get one (and of course possible you get one today). Now, you can kick up your odds, if I recall this correctly, by doing multiple dailies in Fractals (each ten levels is a different daily), but it is what it is… a rare drop meant to be a rare drop.

So you think it is reasonable to let someone do the SAME content DAILY for over a year?

  • snip *

Yes. If they want to, yes I do think it’s reasonable to let someone do the same content daily for over a year if they wish.

Are you saying it’s not reasonable to let someone do the same content daily if they choose to?

Look clearly you enjoy grinding which is fine But GuildWars 2 isn’t set up like WoW. A reward for a skin should require grind but not a grind that will seem like it will take lightyears to complete.

Good news. Both grinds are optional. If you do them, it’s by choice, not necessity.

You know what I’m calling a logical fallacy on every person who uses this NON-SENSICAL argument.

We know you love your grind but this is to people who have work and life other then this game. If you want to bash this comment you can but don’t use this same argument.

No its not realisitc and thats his point. If you just want to attack the op just for the sake of it there are other forums to do so.

No, because the Hall of Monumens is in the Eye of the North and is good to have all the expansion to get most of achivements.

To OP, all items are the old ones, they dont put “new” items, simple now the mask and the gloves could wear in heavy, medium or light armor, but there are the old ones.

The Hall Monuments are a reward for people who get X achivements in GW1, is known sice 2007 when they launch Eye of The North, the Fiery Dragon Sword was a skin in GW1 and is not new in this update , is in GW2 since beta.

The same with the players who unlkitten Title “God Walking Amongst Mere Mortals” to people who get 30 Max titles in GW1, they still have it in GW2.

Is a reward for all veteran GW players who work hard for their characters for 7-8 years, maybe if someday launch GW3 they will do the same thing.

Honestly it seems a bit unfair to have the most desirable sounding title in GW2 be exclusive to (hardcore) GW1 players. Such an awesome title should be one of the ultimate rewards in THIS game, not the previous. My opinion of course. Thankfully titles aren’t too big a deal but it’s a bit of a turnoff.

while I agree with you, do you realize how hard it is to get that title? I knew from the get-go I’d never have that item and really in Gw2 you can barley tell who has what title because it isn’t flashy or anything. It takes 1000s of hours to get the final title, and if you get it you deserve it.

Though they should have an ultimate title for this game too. God Walking Amongst Mortals is truly fitting of the Gw1 plot. You know that thing that makes story go along unlike this game which has a half made plot. (Kill the two younger brother dragons then kill they’re older brother really??) But thats another argument.

Probably most of you haven’t noticed but after the new patch, new items (no, not Ascended gear) have been introduced in the game. Yes, a whole set, new gloves, helm and shoulders as well if I’m not mistaking. You might think that the new items look good? Yes, yes they do! The new helm even is a MASK ! a Heavy armor MASK ! the first one in the game that a LOT of people would want, but hey, guess what? It’s Halls of Monuments. Everything !….. We did overlook that probably 50% of the Titles are unlock-able ONLY through Halls of Monuments, the epic Flame Sword is Hall of Monuments only also, but hey, that was for previous players and a thanks for playing the 1st game. But now? More and more items are being put into the Halls of Monuments, GOOD looking items ! What about us people, that did not like GW1 and did not play it, but we bought and enjoy GW2? Are we suppose to buy GW1 and spend hours and hours playing it just to get the ONLY heavy mask in the game? This is not fair and is not right. One item once in a while is fine, but putting whole sets + more separate items is not. I completely disagree with the new gear that’s only Hall of Monuments accessible. This is pure discrimination to current GW2 players that have not played GW1. You cannot put so much stuff (one of the best looking in the game as well) available only to GW1 players. That is not fair and I do think that it needs to be changed. (I uploaded a picture of the HEAVY-armor mask and the epic sword as well)

Then Buy GuildWars 1 play the game for many hours and you will get it then. As a Guildwars 1 player I would leave GuildWars 2 if they did this. And imo the items don’t look good enough since it takes awhile to get them.

Rares. Lots of them.

@critickitten

I think I get where you are, I thought I got it earlier but I’m not entirely sure. I respect your opinions, and your perspective on this. You’re getting a +1 on your two posts there for being respectful and trying your best to explain something that doesn’t necessarily always fit into neat words. Logic and facts are neat (more often than not), but emotions are not.

I don’t think a “this is definitely where we are going” is a viable option to lay out for the developers. Meaning no offense to them, they work very hard but I don’t think they truly know what shape the game will be in six months from now . . . twelve months from now . . . six years from now. They can hope, they can try to make grand boasts, but knowing the future is left to fantasies and imagination.

I don’t think they know what their game will be like because they are trying to polish and shape it even now. They have ideas on how to fix what is being called out as problems, and they have ideas they already had on the table before then. I know this only through intuition but I don’t expect they started this game with no plans of what to add later.

So if you want no PR talk and just a straight answer, that’s what you’re going to get. A developer standing up and going “we’re not sure what form the game will take, we only hope it’s still around six months from now”.

well generally I think his problem his the developers are trying to applease both sides of the same coin which is very difficult, not impossible though. And he just wants them to choose one, but to Critkitten they will not give us as straight answer but I agree with you that by choosing one side atleast them all this confusion would end. What I am personally annoyed with is how casual players were chosen in the beginning then out of nowhere hardcore are being wanted too. CASUALS were the targetted market in the first place not hardcore! This is what frustrates me to no end.

the story in this game is all over the place, first you deal with the queen, then you deal with centaurs, then bandits and then undead – IT DOESN’T WEAVE. it doesn’t come together properly.

You make a good point, thats what I found confusing. All they had all they had to do was make 1 path for all the characters but make it well written and designed.
Really this 3 paths per character was a bad idea since they clearly didn’t have a good story for all 3 and in the end no matter if you choose any of them the ending was the same. So imo it was a waste to create them.

The stories here are still better than some of the oh-so-amazing stories in SWTOR.

You think some of the stuff here is dry? Go play a Consular, I dare you. Go ahead, it’s free anyway.

What? Even the lamest story in SWTOR was vastly better than the best story you got here in GW2…. The stories there are actually personal as you actually build your characters personality to your liking where in GW2 your character already has a personality you just make some dumb choices that have nothing to do with your personality. Points in the story where you could have made a real difference and been a true hero are just left off to the side to rot.. I had so much hope for this story.

But yes please play SWTOR to see what a good personal story looks like.

I’ve heard SWTOR has a fantastic story. This story is just pitiful at times, okay at best. Gw1 might have followed some cliches but it didn’t let the cliches ruin it. Rurik wasn’t annoying, rather he was quite a strong character.

T3 Cultural armors - why so expensive?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Revolution.6301

As the title suggests, Im just wondering what the point of the exorbitant cost of cultural armors is?

I mean the skins are nice enough, but they are only “rare” quality. Im not about to spend 50+ gold to get a set of armor thats underpowered compared to karma exo gear or TP stuff. Im serious, what is the point of the high cost? Skin alone? If so make it Exotic, and worth the money. Right now, its completely pointless to spend the gold on them since the gear is rare only especially when I can get exotic armor for 40k or so karma a piece ,or spend a one or two gold in TP or even just use exo dungeon gear.

T3 Cultural armors – waste of time and money.

Honestly I don’t like they look. They don’t look epic like the endgame armor skins in gw1 did.

One of the things I prized in GuildWars 1 was the story. It was excellently written to the point where I dead struck when Prince Rurik, the prince of Ascalon dies to save you and his country men. Then you have to fight him and kill him when The Lich revives him.

In Guild Wars 2 there really isn’t much of a plot. Dragons are taking over the world. Okay thats fine, but since this plot is so cliche you have to be very careful but that to me breakes it.

A few issues I had were that the story felt boring, uninspired. Dry. Dead. You didn’t care about the charactors heck some were so annoying cough Trahearne cough that you wanted them to die. Deaths didn’t shock, they felt emotionless. Part of this could be due to the lack of proper cutceans (the wall that seperates the characters) to voice acting that is okay at best but mostly shameful.

I personally would have perfered NO choice rather then just one path, but a very well scripted path that makes me care for the other characters. This one was boring.

In GuildWars 1 I didn’t mind redueing the storymode missions because they were well written in GuildWars 2 I feel no reason to at all. Rather I choose not to because the story is so bland.

This game at its core hence the title GuildWars 2 could have been about the ‘second’ large scale guildwars fault since the battle with Kryta vs Ascalon. An invading armor of a sort.

The gold grind is tedious to almost silly. Find a market invest, rinse repeat for days and days on end. Or you can do CoF, or FOTM or Tunnel. Yep your sorta stuck to one of those choices. Its like work and completly contridicts Anet’s manifesto.

Stop the undercutting -_-

Posted by: Revolution.6301

Revolution.6301

Look if you stop undercutting you’ll make more money. Thats the point.

People will see somtimes 2 to 3000 of an item and panick and and cut a price from 35 to 36. But think about it, if there are SO MANY of an item then logically its liquid enough so there is no need to undercut.

On a side note: I’ve found that the ‘last’ price poster gets his/her stuff sold first. (I’ve tested this many times). So actually you should just repost your orders instead of undercutting.

You really don’t get markets do you? People are “undercutting” (fancy word for selling at the lowest price) in order to beat their competition (you) so that they can turn their profit and immediately move on to the next profitable market. In the TP game “churn” is important. People who are looking to make money trading in the markets want to see an opportunity and flip it fast so that their money isn’t tied up in an asset for days while they wait for the price to come back. If your money is stuck in an asset you can’t use it for the next big trade. Choosing to not undercut you is in no way a profitable activity for me what so ever. If it bothers you that the markets move fast then you might want to think about not playing them. Finally for all those folks who will give the “why don’t you actually play the game” comment. We all play a game that has an open and functional marketplace, that marketplace is free for actors to participate in however they want. The actions of those individuals helps to make markets more liquid (because they are ‘market makers’) and if you still have a problem with it, it’s the way ArenaNet made the game. It is what it is.

Actually I do buddy. Talking down to me is a logical fallacy and is rude of you. Oh and I’m not sure if you know this but this isn’t real life. So encouraging people to make more money so I make more money at the same time is doing the community a favor. Again stop the undercutting and overcutting since it really does kills many markets. I’ve seen entire markets killed for weeks because someone undercut or overcutt just to sell faster even though they would probably sell at the same speed had they just priced it normally. Since the last buyer/orderer is sold/bought first!!

Honestly its comes to a point where players such as myself are reluctent to buy gems with real money because of the current direction. Funny enough it still confusing me quite a bit how Anet put in Ascended gear when there was such an uproar BEFORE it was implemented. Wasn’t this a hint of what players thought? What did Anet basically ignore this and put it in anyway? Then we accused of the sipplery slope fallacy. Honestly that is insulting and irratating.

To any Anet developer reading this will we the players be listened to? Will core issues be addressed?

For example a Looking for group (LFG) tool should have been implemented from the start! But we still have to use gw2lfg.com to find a group quickly if we can’t find anyone in the map we’re in or our guild(s) to go with us.

Threads like these are popping up constantly and yet nothing to address them is being done. And many of them question the direction Anet is going. If Anet wanted the WoW player market then they should have marketed TOWARDS them not Us. Not saying of course the getting WoW players is bad, imo the more the merryier but the gamming market was more casual/quasi-counsell market.

There was a time, right up to around launch, that I had full confidence in this company as well. Everything they did, not just spoke about, indicated that they were keen advocates for their players and were doing everything in our best interests.

However, in the months since, the decisions they’ve made have made it clear to me that player enjoyment no longer was a priority. It’s as if some Wormtongue is whispering treasonous notions into their ears as they sleep, and those ideas are being thrown into the game without any thought.

Personally, I don’t have much of a problem with game bugs or technical weaknesses. I can live with those. It’s the actual decisions on how things should work in the game that I find abhorrent. ArenaNet has consistently succeeded in driving wedges into their player base, fracturing us with design mechanics that could so easily have been inclusive rather than exclusive.

The most recent example is the guild missions, which clearly have caused no end of anger and consternation with a huge cross-section of players. It would have been so easy to avoid this, but ArenaNet made a conscious decision to go forward with it anyway. That tells me they are either clueless as to what affect these types of mechanics are going to have on their players, or they just don’t care. That’s a long way from the company I remember from the months and years prior to release, who seemed to have their finger squarely on the pulse of their target audience and knew exactly what we were wanting from a game.

Frankly, it feels like completely different team from the one that got me hooked on the game with nothing more than a design manifesto. This one is not only out of touch with their community, but is borderline incompetent.

So yes, I would say that I no longer trust them. I’m not even sure who the hell they are anymore.

Bravo! What an excellent way to phrase in a polite diplomatic way what many of us are feeling about Anet. Honestly I haven’t read such as a well put together comment that isn’t kittening constantly. +1 million

let me add my 2 cents in here…

first and foremost, there’s something that all of you have failed to understand. Guild wars 1 was a game, guild wars 2 is NOT a game, it’s not here for your entertainment. Guild wars 2 is a business.. it’s entire design is centered around creating your need to spend real money on it. THAT’s the bottom line… anet, doesn’t give 2 squirts is p*ss about whether or not you like the changes they make. they don’t care a bit about what you feel they should or should not add to the game. they’re sole purpose is to create, in you, a need to spend your money. there are far too many examples of this in game for me to list here, but for those of you who will undoubtedly call bs.. take a look at the history thus far.. anything that deals with the gem store get immediate attention.. everything else, get attention, IF at all, when they feel like getting around to it. how long did it take them to fix the skritt segment of the personal storyline? how long did it take them to fix the cattlepult so ppl could get the vista? during this time, how many new items did they add to the gem store for you to spend money on? how many new bugs did they introduce, rather than fixing any of the existing bugs? I loved gw1.. but anet has lost their sense of gaming when they discovered what kind of money they could make from all the suckers that don’t see the big picture.

I might perfer taking the bus but taking my car is faster and sitting 1:30 minutes on the bus is simply to much time wasted.

Yes you can choose not to grind but you will never get anymore.

Well, maybe but the cost of taking the bus over taking your car is time as opposed to . . . well, extra unspecified charges. Fuel prices. Vehicle maintenance. Insurance. When you start adding it up, there are compelling reasons to use a good mass transit system over a personal vehicle in some instances.

So, yes, sometimes the “grind” to taking mass transit is actually better.

you missed my point. Ignoring cost, repairs JUST looking at time.

Who in their right mind would spend gold on a set of exotics now? Yeah it was easy – because we weren’t garbage collectors before the november update that made all loot trash. I also bought my first exotic set quite quickly, but doing the pve, actually doing dungeons, takes a billion times longer than in WoW.

Be my guest if you wanna buy ecto’s into todays market… If you can afford multiple full exotic sets you are either a lucky dungeon exploiter from early on, no lifer, or TP exploiter. Me personally I like to play the actual game without being poor constantly, and that means grinding dungeons forever in GW2.

So I need to reroll an alt and do map completion to make enough gold to buy more sets? Lol what? I only play one character I shouldn’t be forced to do that.

Grinding Orr for 1 hr, 2-4 G/hr. Not seeing an actual grind here. low levels make less money.

2.4G? I barly get 1.5 at times. Gues RNG likes you.

But you realize doing Orr over and over and over and forever over again is grind right?

Self inflicted grind ^^; But I enjoy grind. Each event brings me about 1g give or take 10s. Then gathering, mixed mobs and the mobs that come between events bring in 2-3. Really depends how much I’m paying attention. 2g being my average, if I’m not afking for RL and have a good day I’ll easily make enough in a week to blow 50g+ on whatever I want lol I’ve went from Dyes to salvaging rares, to making 800 omnomberry bars and sending them to friends. Whatever keeps me busy and interested. The benefit of people like me who enjoy grinding in a non grind game is that we are usually very giving and care about the social side of the game. See my Vday event I hosted on NSP, that was around 70g.

Aside from my personal enjoyment of grinding, those who do dungeons and events are just as likely to make the same or more. Assuming they do fix the tagging problem some are having, and better the rewards of these harder creatures. I enjoy grinding even if its the same area, its for personal reasons but it gives me something steady to do to keep my mind clear. Monotonous as it may seem to many, it’s how i enjoy my $60 purchase at the moment

On a side note I would be playing my Pre-ordered Crysis 3 and Pre-ordered Metal gear but my son used the lens mechanism like a ping pong machine, and there it sits at Sony being fixed..

How is it ‘self inflicted’ grind. Tell me then if I want gold what else can I do? CoF? Well with my mf gear most of the time it is ether equal to or beat cof. So no its not self inflicted people just have to grind there.

Could use something more to spend skill points on, would make all those extra dings past 80 worth something. Not talking about mystic forge or crafting related spending, stuff that makes your character more diverse like picking abilites from another class (at much higher cost and have longer cooldown or something) or advanced class… something along that line. Titles perhaps. Fluff or horizontal growth stuff.

That would be great. Trading them for coin would be nice as well.

thats a great idea, I support that too.

To those that are saying gw1 was like WoW uh no. Gw1 was Gw1.

Back on topic, people on the forums know me for complaining about the #1 thing grind, grind, grind. You didn’t? comment on that and made attemps at the energy system etc. Clearly if you don’t even like what the manifesto said this game would be then this is not a game for you. If you were complaining about the manifesto being broken by ascended gear I’d back you up 100% but since your not I can’t and won’t.

I still haven’t seen anything on fishing which was talked about pre-launch also.

there was fishing? How neat. Would that work the same way some other mmos work where you can afk and ‘fish’ with the chance of getting armors and what not?

If over 30 Dusks have been sold recently, that can mean the current price for them is reasonable.

On all respect are you telling me 600-700 gold is reasonable? We were promised a game that wasn’t like the rest but grinding out 600 gold doesn’t sound like it.

I love that this game is the way it is. Once I’ve leveled a couple alts and gotten bored with all there is to do I can do something else, play something else. Now people will argue that therein lies the flaw, but I say it is the exact opposite.

Edit: They could even have different jobs people could do in zones as well. Someone could be a tax collector and in order to keep that job they would have to visit villages and farms etc in the zone they are responsible and bring in so much a month or whatever. This would also give people reason to revisit zones where they have cleared it 100%. Maybe the player could trigger DE’s occasionally as well. Maybe they get jumped by bandits and they can appeal to people in the zone to fight them off or risk losing the taxes collected and possibly their job.
So many other games out there are what everyone is used to in an MMO. Hit 80, gear up to hit harder content to get gear to hit harder content and so on and so forth. PvP if that is your thing.

GW2 lets me be as committed or non committed as my desire to play is. I don’t feel like I need to be on for so many hours a day to get something done. I’m usually doing what I want to do except when I am doing dailies, and I enjoy those as well – it gives me a daily goal that I can bang out in under 30 minutes if I want, but usually I just complete it by playing the game.

I think people have a hard time accepting that it’s ok to run out of things to do and play something else. This is a game that will be constantly changing and having things added so there will always be a reason to keep booting it up if you take a break.

If that’s not what you want, there are a lot of MMO’s out there that subscribe to the normal style so play those if that is really what you are looking for!

I know, you want this game to have it all, but it can’t. None of them do.

The very problem is though that that so many areas are blank with nothing to do. Honestly, there is no reason to visit any main city other then la once you have the map completition done. Taverns that have no purpse, they exist for the sake of existing. And again just add rewards to jp which is so so so easy to do then suddently you have reused an old machenic and people are actually doing it!

Who else thinks this is a good idea?

I can see some upsides to that. Maybe they could add in some political or social benefits as well. Run for different offices, have elections, have player owned taverns or something. That would give people reason to be in the towns more.

Edit: Perhaps players could also have jobs such as tax collector and they could be responsible for a certain zone. They would need to bring in so much money a week/month in taxes or risk losing their position to someone else. This would give people reason to go to zones they have already completed 100%.

Maybe the players could also have a chance to trigger DE’s as well. Say the tax collector gets besieged by bandits and the player can appeal to people in the zone to come to his aid or risk losing the taxes collected and then probably his job as well if he doesn’t get assistance.

Thats a start but require a huge overhall. What are small things do you think can be done?

My main issue is generally there truly is little to do.

Jumping puzzles would be fantastic if they were WORTH doing. If they put a rare/exotic in every chest at the end of a jp (better rewards = more challenging jp) then there would be somthing to do. This is an easy fix that Anet can do.

There lies the problem.

There’s plenty to do. You just don’t get anything for doing it. You may do it for fun the first few times. But then you realize that you are not earning anything.

Plenty of fun, not enough reward. Which is sad from many points of view: there’s alot of worthwhile content.

And no one does anything for fun anymore. We want skinner boxes.

Well thats the point, and how hard would it be to had the rare/exotic to every box? Grinding jp would be SO much more fun then grinding orr or cof. Or you can even say just doing jp for fun.

I haven’t noticed this population drop, if anything I see more people playing in pve then before.

Anet cannot cater to every single suggestion on the forums, regardless of how many posts it gets. If they see an idea that is profitable, works and the majority of the population agrees, they may add it, they may not. It’s their game and they’ll do what they want with it.

A trading feature should not be added to this game. The trading post works for any type of trade you could want and is much better than sitting around spamming LA for days trying to sell something. I am very happy they have done away with that system and my chat window appreciates it as well.

The forums are not a representation of what even a fraction of the general population wants, and cannot be judged that way.

Well if what you said is true then HOW did ascended gear become a new addition to the game? So many were and are against it. And grind, people have made so many issues about that and its still addressed. These are 2 huge issues that I fear will never or take a long time to get addressed.

Why is every single zone square?

I agree and it really bothers me too. It wouldn’t bother me too much if the mountains actually looked natural opposed to the + ot T shape we have now. People will say “Well they aren’t a perfect line” but its way too close to 90 degree angle for it to even look close to natural. (im talking about mountains in zone boundaries, not inside).

In GW1 the mountains still looked realistic despite the zones still in a rectangular or square form and it was never obvious. GW2 however leaves me to wonder what they were thinking when they designed the world. Take a look at Cursed Shore south area for example (the lake area east of grenth). Unexplored it looked like a natural body of water connected to the ocean that you can view but instead you get a giant straight wall of coral crap. What was the reasoning behind this? Why not just leave it the way it is and add exhaustion zone.

Have to agree with this. However this is a drastic change in a sense and many players need to feel annoyed about this for anything to be done.

Agree with op – most days I just farm the daily and log out. Either nothing is ‘Oooooh Ahhhh’ at 80, dungeons are meh or drops are ridiculously stingy so regular farming (which I would like to do if the rewards were worth a kitten doesn’t seem appealing at all.

They could have brought more stuff that was awesome in GW1 to keep it interesting tbh. i was constantly entertained in the precursor for about 3 years and was sad to see that game fizzle out.

Yeah well it had to move on like all things. Gw2 can be and will be awsome but the fact remains that there is so little to do. I mean if grinding is going to be a requirment atleast make it fun. As in let us grind by jumping puzzles for instance. Or a savanger hunt. Somthing that will confuse ‘grind’ with fun.
