We all need to raise awareness to this. Anet has shown to listen to us if enough speak up and this is clearly an issue that is detrimental to the game.

I think that your problem is that you think you can “farm” in GW2. Honestly, Anet do NOT want people farming….

I would love to ask Anet and Paul how do u justify the existance of Magic Find sets of armor weapons sigils runes and food if Anet don’t want us to farm taking also in account the amount of money u need to create an MF set?

Anet said they don’t like grindy games, they said they don’t want us to farm, but looking at what do i have to do to get a full set of armor, or enough matherials for a legendary or to craft anything, i would say the opposite of that, and well fractals…just have no words about it many players already talked about it.

A LOT of items needs 250 ectos, 250 lodestones, cores, 250 t6 materials, to be upgraded or produced, wanna talk about the skills points too? u know how much gold u need to buy 250 kitten charged lodestones on the trading post? or the hours u need to farm just 1 with a full magic find set+weapon lucksigil+food?

I sincerly suggest the Anet team to watch again the “Anet Manifesto” couse gw2 is really not a game for Casual Players, unless they just think a casual players don’t deserve to have a satifying nice looking armor or weapon, or they just don’t deserve any exotic/ascended gear..

Last thing: people do not split only between
1 – who have time to spend playing on GW2 and nerding to get stuff
2 – who have money to spend on GW2 and buy gold with gems

There are also people who have no money and a lot of free time, too bad they have to spend most of it looking for a job they cannot find due to the infamous economical crisis (here in italy the country is down on the knees).

Sincerly

All the mats you listed are for cosmetic items, if you want to grind for cosmetics, go for it, if not…well then you don’t have to. No one is making you do it, it is player choice. The mindset that you should have cosmetic, RARE items handed to you is beyond entitled.

lets remain on topic peps.

His point is they should be more accessable. Not everyone has the time to grind several hours everyday. A simple solutition to this would be to include their drop with normal mob drop (they would still be rare but) atleast the price would not be so high.

If you wish to do a mods job, have kids.

RARE cosmetic items should not be easily accessible, that is what makes them RARE. If you don’t put the effort into it in some form, then you shouldn’t have it. None of the things that were listed impacts the ability to play the game in any way. The RARE cosmetic items are a way for people who play the game to show their dedication either in terms of game hours or money given to the devs so we can have even more content. Wanting it for free, for nothing other than showing up, is entitlement.

its okay if you have an opinion but don’t derail the thread. Please and thank you.

Look he is not asking for them to be handed but more accessable. There is a difference. And this is about Orr. And how there should be more locations to grind.

Wow. The people who post to this thread actually understand what the point of this is. YES YES YES, thank you for pointing out this.

I just hope Anet sees this and makes it so that there is say 4 level 80 grinds with the effective and efficiency like the Tunnel grind.

For example have one in Orr, one in Kryta and another the charr reagion and one in the Norn region.

I understand what you’re saying about Orr. The landscape is bleak and the enemies are close together, so it’s easy to get overwhelmed in places. I’ve farmed in Orr for crafting items quite a bit and it can get tedious. Most of the advice to avoid the Orr grind doesn’t work for me since I don’t do dungeons or fractals and that’s usually the only thing anyone can offer. I can go to Frostgorge, but it takes far longer to get the same amount of goods there as in Orr, so that’s why so many of us farm Orr.

you my friend understand exactly what I’m saying. THIS 100X over.

Oh and just to calify I just want a nice set of exotic gear and weapons + runed. And of course I want armor that looks just the way I want it so thats about 100 gold giver or take.
Sure I’d like to get a legendary (and will eventually) but if I’m properly geared I’ll be content.

I do that in the daily and then go back to Orr.
At this point I dont care what they do.
All I want is LOOT to be on par with FRACTALS. It isnt and that is wrong very very wrong.
The game is almost dead anyways but forcing players to do things against their will just to make gold or buy gems isnt the way to go. Treating 1 player better than another is what is killing this game fast. Reread your manifesto and pre release marketing material and return to what was promised.

This is my point.

I am going insane doing Orr. Really zombies? If I want to see zombies I’ll go play any fps. I don’t mind seeing them once in a while but constantly it down right annoying. And I personally would find the grind better if I could do it somewhere more life-like, enjoyable. I don’t know how Anet thought that in a game that demands grind to get gear that people wouldn’t do it.

There’s always Frostgorge Sound.
Yeah everything being white isn’t much of an improvement over everything being grey, but at least there’s different enemies to fight.

But even so, it is still more effective to do the Tunnel grind. It is not difficult to ask for a differen’t grind in terms of quality of rewards and amount of money made.

I think the combat in this game feels very stale.

It’s bad enough you only have access to 15 abilities at a time but when those 15 abilities are uninteresting, recycled abilities you’ll see in any other MMO it gets really boring really quick. The abilities don’t even attempt to be interesting. We’ll take the warrior’s rifle for example:

  • Aimed Shot – Small damage and cripples… yay?
  • Volley – Pretty much a channeled auto attack that shoots faster… Also in just about every MMO
  • Brutal shot – Slightly more damage than an auto attack and makes the target take 5% more damage. Boring standard MMO ability.
  • Rifle butt – Knocks back.

You only get 5 abilities on a weapon. This kit is completely uninteresting. Things like cripples and vulnerability should be tied to other interesting abilities. They shouldn’t be abilities all on their own.

This problem isn’t just for the warriors rifle. Its practically for every weapon in the game. I feel like that’s why this games combat feels so stale. Theres not really any original ideas, just a bunch of sub par, one purpose recycled abilities from every other MMO.

I say these things because I do love guild wars 2 and I want to see it get better and become the amazing game it could be.

Can’t agree more.

Let’s announce the well-known elephant in the room that this game is extremely grindy, regardless of what Anet says.
I for one am a bit annoyed but that’s another issue, my main issue is ONLY being able to grind in Orr.
I hate Orr now, this was not always the case I promise you it wasn’t but after 10 hours of seeing zombies and wait……….MORE Zombies, No NO could that be a GIANT ZOMBIE? And c’mon… seeing a post-apocalypse land constantly is just annoying.
I want to see the rest of Tyria, you know Tyria that land that’s supposed to be where I should (if you look at game content) spend most of my time? But no stuck in Orr.

All I am asking is to make grinding areas in the rest of Tyria. I want to grind near hills, yes green hills no grey, black stubs attempting to be hills. Or even near one of those mountains. The game is massive. It has many different terrain types.

And new enemies. I want to farm Centaurs YES CENTEURS creatures we all (at least tried to) hunt to extinction. Or Harpies since they’re just neat.

All I am asking is for a bit of change to grinding, I can’t tolerate grinding the Tunnel Farm, I’ll probably still but it will feel more like a chore then a game.

What happened to playing the game for fun rather than farming for gold?

Sadly, that’s how this game works, and it’s mainly because of legendary weapons and the precursor. Give thanks to ArenaNet.

yep, thats why you see so much dead content.
I’m just trying to throw out ideas how to fix dead content since even though I want to go there, there is just NO incentive to do so.

I don’t see higher level tier nodes, plants or trees coming to lower level zones. If you needed lower level tier materials, where would you get them? They already said they are going to increase the chance of loot in lower level areas to scale up to your level.

Your missing my main point. That as of right now Tunnel farming is the best way to farm. There is no reason to go to level 30 and do any event there because you won’t make as much money farming there as you would in the level 80 area. I’m just suggesting equalizing the loot is all.

So give the same amount of experience, karma, and silver from completing an event in a lower level zone as you would in a higher level zone? I can agree with you on that. I just don’t think higher level farming nodes will come to lower level zones.

Not nodes!! No! NO! NO!

Plus thats not how most of us make our money, its by farming T5 mats. So then make a scenerio like the tunnel that make it make more sense to go to the level 50 area, or the same amount of sense.

Hi, I have found GuildWars 2 to be quite the fun adventure so far. Though like all of us I have a few gripes with it. One of the major gripes is dead content.

As anyone is aware that once you reach level 80 there is NO reason other then to finish hearts to do pre-level 80 events. The fact is rewards are not worth it. The only reason people are even doing level 80 events in Orr is to farm, because events there give the best loot and make the best and effective use of your time. About 80% of the content is basically dead once the heart in the area is done.

What can be done?

Ditribute loot according to level!! Make it so that if I’m level 80 in a level 5 area and I happen to kill somthing I get level 80 loot! This loot includes the T5 mats everyone is farming. This is so simple and it encourages us, the players to use ALL of the content instead of only a PORTION of it.

Will grinding still happen?
Yes it will, but it won’t be as painful as before and what I’m suggesting is easily implemented.

So what do you all think?

Here's a tip to all of you.

This doesn’t help people out, it works to drive up the price to take advantage of the people you’re “trying to help”. Even if you aren’t intentionally trying to do it, you’re doing it. Giving free advice to people like this isn’t helpful in the least, as much as I wish that weren’t the case.

Truthfully, I’m just trying to give some advice. And I think if you buy now before it goes up wouldn’t that be a good thing?

Since it is pretty much fact once the holidays start people playing will skyrocket, hence demand for the item will = money made.

Hello,

I have 100s of gold and I want to share how I got all of it. Clearly not through grinding, through investing. But since everyone know this already I won’t go further.

Each week I’ll post an item that might make a great investment:

This weeks: Hard Wood Log.
Why? It’s at an incredibly low price (about 8 for pre-order and only 10 for buy)
Why now? This item is used for low level armor, and crafting hence since more people are going to play now since the holidays are coming (or for some have already started) = more newbies = more demand for this product.

Southsun did not live up to it’s hype, and Cursed Shore is now 80% empty.

I’m sorry if I offend you Anet, but nerfing Plinx and Pent while not giving us any other alternatives, was not very thoughtful.

I am by no means a casual, but I’m not someone who would usually spend a whole hour or more on dungeons such as FotM.

I used to log in at Cursed Shore for 15-30 minutes, do a few rounds of Plinx, laugh around with the crowds, have an idle chat with the lovely community in the Map chat, and log off.

Cursed Shore wasn’t just a farming spot, it has became a ‘Community’ of sorts, with people running around, chatting, helping each other when they see someone i trouble. Now, it’s probably 80% less crowd than it used to be.

And sorry to say, I thought Southsun had a lot of potential if it ‘fully opened’, but for now, it’s a lame place with a few wandering players.

I don’t know if everyone quit GW2, or Cursed Shore is not a viable farming area anymore, what I know is, the community ingame is pretty much fragmented now, each doing their own thing, wandering around.

well how is this a surpise? GuildWars 2 was not advertised as grinding MMO. Why it wasn’t was above me. But people tried to grind anyways and were sent by Anet a Nuclear Nerf. The remains are pitiful.

Turning the game into a WoW clone is not making it unique. Gear treadmills are not unique. Gear checks are not unique. Being forced to run dungeons for the best gear so you can remain competitive in WvW is not unique.

Rather than trying to turn GW2 into WoW, instead of allowing it to follow in the footsteps of its successful predecessor and ACTUALLY be unique, why not play a WoW clone on the side and stop trying to destroy this game? It would be fun if the content locusts were to just play the game for itself instead of demanding more and more stats and content constantly, forcing Anet to push rushed attempts to appease them like this.

We bought the game knowing exactly what kind of game it was- the manifesto told us what it was. It’s the WoW fans who want to turn it into something else.

You are my hero.

So we all know about ascended gear, and infusions, ect.

Okay..so here is my source:

Naturally if I was to participate in getting ascended gear, I need a back piece.

+17 Power
+24 Toughness
+1% Critical Damage
+32 Toughness
+18 Power
+4% Critical Damage
Yeah, that looks good. Materials?

1 Vial of Condensed Mists Essence- havent gotten one yet, but alright.
50 Globs of Ectoplasm- little steep, but i guess it is a brand new back piece.
24 skill points- alright, sure.
250 Teir 6 fine crafting material- um..what?
And that 250 tier 6 is for my piece is…armored scales!
The only time i’ve ever farmed armored scales is when i need some for a weapon I was crafting. After 2.5-3 hours of farming drakes (in MF gear), i ended up with…2!
And Balthazaar knows i probably hit the DR before the first one even kitten dropped..

Moving along..
We need to infuse this gear, yeah? Lets see..

Base back slot item-Okay..
Glob of Coagulated Mists Essence- Havent gotten one still, but alright..
Gift of Ascension- 500 fractal shards…thats pretty annoying, but alright?
250 Globs of Ectoplasm-LOL? Are we catering to those that got rich via exploiting the precursor farming? (And sure, ecto isnt THAT expensive, but a whole stack for ONE piece?)

So, at this point, the “end game” achievement..is a fractal weapon. You need the ascended gear to get there, ect, and those are basically the “end goal” from the high fractal difficulties.

Except…hell, i wont even try to guess how many people will actually make it there.

But the problem is..WHY IS EVERYTHING LIKE THIS?
WHY IS EVERYTHING SO EXPENSIVE/REQUIRES A kitten AMOUNT OF MATERIALS?
WHY AM I REQUIRED TO GAIN A LARGE AMOUNT OF MATERIALS IN A GAME THAT HAS VERY STRICT REGULATIONS WHEN IT COMES TO GRINDING?

Seriously? I am required to have absurd materials, which requires me to grind, but I cannot do that because of diminishing returns and grind regulations.

What is going on anymore?

If I had such power it was be:

Ascended gear, dum the stats down to exotic or remove it.
Dungeon parties, make it so that grouping is easier
DE Challenge, more hp + dps does not consitute for a higher ‘challenge’

Please if you don’t want to this to be removed then don’t call one another names, flame this or go off topic. All of us want GuildWars 2 to become a success and the way I look at it lets stop the leak before it turns into flowing rush of water that is almost impossible to stop.

The issue is that it takes no time to get to 80. Its not that people rushed to 80 its that it doesn’t take more than a month to get there. lol If you took your time to get 80 than great. I was 80 in the 1st 3 weeks of game launch and fully geared in exotics by the time the Trading post had started working. I have never spent a dime on this game and have 3 sets of exotic gear and every weapon is exotic.

This game is so easy to level and make money in. I think like a full set of Exo gear is what about 15g? I can farm 15g in like 15 hours probably. People didn’t rush to end game content its that it just doesn’t take that long to reach it. If you took your time and were slow fine. But you didnt need to do that. By the way I have 100% map completion so don’t say I didn’t experience the game and rushed…. It just isnt that hard.

your confusing yourself with the rest of us. You have time to spend 5+hrs a day. The rest of us with school and work and a social life don’t.

GW2 already peaked in sales with the first selling. The rest will simply be holiday gifts. Those will probably be lower now because of all the bad press from the change. People are tired of WoW for a reason, and its not just because of welfare epics and the world. ANET,Nexon, and NCSoft will learn the hard way.

Speaking of which, I think I’m going to give NCSoft a vist

This. The ‘gear grind’ model is an outdated, dying fad; no game will ever do as well as WoW did with that model. The best thing they could have done was double down on their manifesto and provide new horizontal content their loyal player base could be excited about.

perfect. But I’ll add do what they did with Guildwars1. There was less grind ironically then there is here but they never stated that as their manafesto lol………….
Look you can make a great game without this gear grind garbage but as a warning there are 10000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000000 mmos that have the same thing. People came here to leave those mmos but now your doing the same so what incentive do people have now to buy gems?

Lets look the game over:
DE -fine, but even these were poorly implemented
Combat -nothing revolutionary. I wish they would’ve done what dark souls combat has.
Guildwars franchise (as a flashy cover)
Voice actors -they range from WOW to oh god…..
That’s it.

So what does this game have over other games with this new approuch? Nothing! or well very little.

Actually, I have full 80 exotic gear. I’ve had it since the first 2 weeks of the game. That being said, I still don’t like the direction this game is going, and I do NOT like that FoTM is gated. I was happier with the game before this month, tbh. Now, I’m already looking for something new. Expected this one to be a keeper. Shame.

Wel there you have folks! Here is a semi (according to my logic) hardcore player who has lost patience! Wow can’t imagine everyone else.

Does Anet not realize we have lives? I’m in university and can at best put an hour in. I was told that I could feel the use of that hour. How now? That is called false advertising.

OP spot on! And your title rocks!

Anet, I’m willing to buy gems. Yes willing to spend money but I refuse to if you don’t remove Ascended gear. You know because of this its impossible to find a group for CoE Thank you very much!!!

Ok im not trying to be the dark horse in this conversation, BUT I do think exotic gear level was TO easy to obtain. I think they should continue to add ascended items but then Stop and ensure that this is the highest gear tier forever (a LONG time). This certainly gives those that want more to do some content and doesnt affect those who dont <— This is because anyone with exotics can easily make it to lvl 10 of the fractals.

Exotic items were “easy to obtain” if, and only if, you:

1) Refuse to play more than one character.
2) Refuse to play more than one build on each character.
3) Refuse to use anything other than the cheapest (profession-crafted) Exotics in the game.

For players who have a lot of time to play the game and still want advancement, there are release valves built into the game’s design everywhere. It’s like that old joke about a slowly drowning man, only in this case the punchline is replaced with “Yeah, I guess you’re right. I’ll fix that for you.”

For the rest of us, it is not easy to outfit yourself with the Exotics you need. I play four characters at level 80, and two of them have two completely separate builds that require two completely separate sets of gear. I also like to use moderately nice looking gear, instead of awful looking Pearl weapons. That means it costs at least 200g to 250g to be outfitted in Exotic equipment. That is one hell of a grind to max out, with “easy to get” Exotics.

It will be impossible for me to max out with Ascended equipment, unless I stop playing everything except one build, on one character. Ascended equipment eliminates 83% of the game for me, in one fell swoop.

Catering to players who refuse to play the game except in one specific way, forever, should not be a priority.

Precisely. In addition, nearly all content has been rendered obsolete. Sure, I can go there… but dungeon groups will be hard to find, and maps emptier than ever. What fun. Now we have one dungeon that is itself super stratified so good luck organizing a group at your level.

so I guess the question is what is Anet going to do?
I personally have no idea why they didn’t consult with us the players? The logic kitten is begging to be put down.

Normal player.. tons of hours..

I have a wife, kids and a job.. could not log in until tonight does to my daughter having her confirmation.. you know REAL life..

My 80 mesmer could not get a group for the new dungeon.. Everyone had to be level 7 or some odd crap to do it….

72 hours out of the loop and ZERO chance to get a group? This game talked about no grinding and you can’t take three days off at max level and not land a group now??

I completly agree with this. I hate the way its going. For instance I want to do CoE BUT NO ONE DOES IT since its to ‘hard’ and what’s awsome it when you find 3 people willing to do then can’t find the last 2.

GW1 vs GW2 gold farming

I remember farming Feathers from Tengu for my first level 20 gear on my Warrior outside of LA.

Then, once I got Factions, I found a better Tengu farming area, and I farmed there on my Rt/Me using a Vengeful Was Khanhei build.

Hehe, good times.

I never farmed but would invest in the economy. The economy back then made freakin SENSE this one is so much like the stock market that it gives me a headache.
I bought magic find stuff today so I have around 112 and w/ a boost its 142. I HATE THIS FORM OF FARMING

Should I get MF?

It will pay for itself eventually, but it’s also not much fun compared with better gear.

If you’re the sort who can stand farming, you might as well go for it now; if you’re not, then either don’t bother, or just pick it up piecemeal whenever you have some extra cash.

Edit: Oh, wait, didn’t notice that you said re-rune. Definitely don’t overwrite the runes in your primary armour with MF runes. Use a second set, if you’re going to do it.

well how am I suppose to make money? And yes I don’t have issues with grind sorta. I can put 10 hours in but after that I do begin to lose patience. I just want decent armor and apparently no one does CoF (the only set I enjoy the looks of)

I was told this is a casual-friendly game really??? It was hard enough getting dungeon but ascended is insane.

Enough rant, on a more argumentative basis didn’t they say they were against the entire gear tredmill bit? This is hypocritical. And what is even more annoying is wasn’t the point of GuildWars 2 to be a revolution in MMOs? Well this proves it isn’t. Anet I liked you alot more then other company *cough*On that starts with an N cough
I play a game for fun to GRIND GRIND GRIND for gear. REMOVE THIS. It’s still possible and just replace it with idk gold or epic armor that you can completly design yourself(choose stats and what not).

I’m in a bit of a problem here. I lack money. I only have a rare set and well thats about it. Apparently MF is the way to go to make money so would it be wise to re-rune my armor and make it have only MF? Is it worth it? I could afford it (have 10g if I sell everything) or?

Just to note if I sell everything I’ll probably lose about 3g.

no. it’s no longer casual friendly. 90 hours per piece of gear to be competitive isn’t casual friendly.

thats exactly my point.

Hi, I’m new to this community well the forum community to be exact. I’ve been playing the game for over 2 months now.
So far I’ve enjoyed the game but the thing is I am casual. I have school and at the very best each night MAYBE an hour or so. See this is where the whole idea ‘this is a casual game’ starts falling apart on me.

As a casual player I can’t on most given days:
Dungeon -over an hour for each run. really??
This new factuals dungeon is for a new group over 2 hours really???

What I can do:
Kill a dragon
Get a heart or 2 done.
Or do the bottom.

Grind, grind, grind, grind, grind, grind, grind, Grind, grind, grind, grind, grind, grind, grind,Grind, grind, grind, grind, grind, grind, grind.

I’m level 80 and thats all I’ve heard that they’re is left to do. WellI personally can tolerate grind up to a point but if I have to grind somthing over 50 times (such as most dungeons) well my patience weens. I was told that this game would be a revolution. SO MANY TIMES. Well it is in some aspect however the core ‘we shall make you grind for the sake of grinding’ was promised to be avoided. Thank god I did not start trying for dungeon armor since ascended is out. What a waste that would’ve been.

Oh on a side note: I enjoyed how cooking ingredents like chili peppers can’t be bought via karma anymore. Well that means I can just GRIND for some more.

So I am asking you this: how is this a casual game? It seems hardcore to me. At a time I was thinking of getting a legendary but it seems almost impossible now. I want to do dungeons but the thought of doing the same one over 50 times well makes me cringe. In guildwars1 I eventually got ‘elite’ armor it took a bit of time BUT it was within reason. Ha getting ‘ascended’ the new ‘elite’ seems absurd.

To be honest I feel like aload of promises were made (wait this sounds like politicans are talking?) and aload of contradictory actions were taken (are we sure they are not politicans?)

We need Outward Scaling, not just Upward.

AGREED AGREED AGREED!
This is exactly the problem with DE. Really DE should not require us to fail for progression.
Going off what the OP said; I’ve noticed people who range or use magic are usually quite safe so if your fighting a giant the giant should summon smaller giant that go after those rangers and magic users so they have to think stratgically too.
Also lets say (like in many cases 50+ people join in) have an ‘elite’ skill set unlocked for the boss that really requires those 50+ pleople to actually be there and that its actually possible for them to lose.
Idk say a giant skill set let it move say twice as fast with long range attacks.

Whats Great? And What isn't?

Generally I’ve noticed that there are aload of threads generally saying the same thing but instead of saying whats great and what isn’t in a few threads there are 10+ saying the same thing.

What I find great:
DE; truly gets rid of the old quest format, it was a pleasure to see them.
Graphics: Amazing, nuff said.
Combat: nice to see the dodge! Finally more interaction.
NPCs: Quite interesting if you take the time to listen to them talk, now that is a fine level of polish that is rarely seen in any game period.
Holy Trinity: **** yea its gone! I hated it and finally its gone! Great way to take a stab at elitism.

What isn’t so great:
DE: Thats because it appears that to have them chain you have to lose at the event and lets be honest there is very little chance of losing when 10+ players are zerging the poor centaurs. They need to actually gain a brain when there are so many players, more skills and so forth.
Jumping quests: I do love them but, some are just really buggy and impossible to do. At times its just not clear where you can jump and where you can’t. I’ve encountered quite a few ‘invisible walls’ which makes the matter is more confusing.
Better tutorial: That is a must, since right now there isn’t really a tutorial at all and its almost overwhelming not having a clue what you can do though this can be argued also as a strength but to me it isn’t.
