I really hope they will make it possible for everyone to play together. It will be more competitive and waiting times would be shorter. I don’t see any reason for not doing it.
It worked perfectly fine in GW1, so I can’t see why it wouldn’t work here.
I think that heartseeker is not a problem at all. It does laughable damage and is too easy to dodge.Invisibility is fine, as they have to hit you in order to go invis.
And don’t forget that thieves are paper and that some players like Zlatan Ibrahimovic would stomp on their faces in seconds.
Farming newbies in free tournaments with same build over and over again? Yeah I’m sure that’s the best they can do. There are some guilds (Law, ABCD, etc.) farming free tournaments all day long, and sometimes doing couple paid tourneys. Of course they always use the op build to their advantage (bunkers and portal). That means that all the newbies will eventually give up and tPvP will die
Comparing a MMO game to some japanese fighter game is just lol… I hope you know that many of those people have serious creativity problems.
They’re completely different, and Anet did want to get everyone on the same level. Meaning: if one player is good and can protect himself against burst all day long, but other player isn’t, it would lead to unfair advantage.
Also: bursts would become useless after a while as everyone would learn to play, and it would just be bunkers all the way.
Yeah… not like devs don’t know what’s wrong. They just don’t have time/resources/will to work to fix them.
But yeah in these early stages of PvP it’s quite interesting to see how players think I guess. Reminds me of first IWAYs in GW1, and how fast top players changed after that, when nerfs came (op eles, portal mes, bunkers in general in this game hopefully). And then some other people got on top. And that will be the case here as well, but enjoy your show off while it lasts
I put style first at any cost, it’s not about the win, it’s about how you win. Also, I’m a bit of an elitist sometimes.
Also: no tryhardin’
(edited by Rezz.8019)
Well each prof can only have 3 roles, which is kinda sad: burst, condition or bunker.
Just play burst, it’s quite OP and you can kill enemies 2v1 within a second easily. I suggest doing it before they nerf it
Hint: play what you’re comfortable with, you don’t have to go any copy other “wiki” builds just because they work for someone else. This game is simple, almost anything works, just play around a bit with traits and skills until you find what suits you the most.
I have to say… PvP did get too repetitive even for me… and that’s pretty much all I do. I used to play it for hours and hours but now I’m slowly getting fed up with it. Getting farmed by r50 guild teams in tourneys gets boring. The waiting times are also extremely long.
Saving the builds would be awesome. Was extremely useful in GW1
Nope, I played other MMO (GW1) and I would never leave because of those silly reasons. So yeah, what do we do now? Also.. thieves are just fine, I like getting free kills from them.
Always have capping as your priority, kills are not that important.
Well actually yeah they could copy GW1 style tournaments, just with 3 rounds, even 8 teams. They don’t have to make anything new, just implement the system they already have.
Well if you want to make it equal then everyone should be human. I don’t understand the point of implementing all those different races at the first place. I guess to attract more kids to the game.
Yup, I know many people who lost hundreds and hundreds of tickets simply because they played too many tournaments before changing the region. Now they’re just being ripped off. But yeah, let’s sell an unfinished product and get as much money as possible!!!
Ok so I did my own research and it looks like that people only have problems with thieves in HotJoin. They are perfectly fine and balanced in free tournaments., and people don’t whine about them all day long.
Solution: split thieves for tourney and hotjoin play, that way both serious and smart players as well as newbies will be happy.
I think that other than bunkers, d/d eles and portals the balance is perfectly fine.
Problem with PvP is that rank system is nothing but grind.
Well, it’s quite simple: the better you play, better rewards you get and longer you play (more fun you have). Seems quite legit for me.
GW2 PvP is extremely dumbed down compared to GW1 PvP, but this is a result of a change in business strategy for the video gaming industry. Back in the early days, video game developers made games that were in general very difficult to beat requiring lightning fast reflexes and expert hand-eye coordination. Games like Starcraft Brood War, or early FPS games like Doom or Quake on max difficulty were extremely difficult to become skilled at. The type of individual who enjoyed these games liked the challenge, and so game developers made games that were extremely complex. GW1 fit this description as it had 10 professions, multi-classing, tons of skills, and complex combat mechanics such as passive dodging, body blocking, all while requiring split-second reflexes to resist spike attacks and interrupt important skills.
Then the video game industry had an epiphany. They realized there was a potentially much larger market for video games of casual people who enjoyed playing a video game every now and then but were turned off by the extremely high learning curves and complexity of most games on the market. In business this is known as a blue ocean strategy, going after a new market that currently isn’t served by any offerings. The success of devices such as the Wii showed that this market was very valuable, as the Wii offered extremely simple games requiring little skill that appealed to a large number of people, people who wouldn’t be the least bit interested in playing a ladder match of Brood War. So other game developers jumped on the simplicity band wagon and started making their games very easy to understand in an effort to appeal to a larger market.
Just look at what Jay Wilson did to Diablo 3. In Diablo 2 making an optimal character involved knowing all of the items available and balancing which items you were using to obtain a good damage amount, high armor, while hitting break points for stats such as FHR, FCR, block rate and percent. In Diablo 3 gear pretty much goes like this, Int is my main stat so I will use gear that has the highest number of +Int on it. Same thing in GW2, I mean half your skills are determined by just what weapon you’re using. Then for the rest it’s like Anet is your mommy telling you how to play: Make sure you don’t forget to take a heal skill so you don’t die honey! But this is by design, because Anet is chasing a large audience and people are for the most part stupid. To people who are hoping GW2 PvP will become more complex, it won’t. If you want that kind of gameplay you will need to find a niche game, two games coming out soon that look like they fit this description are Path of Exile and Company of Heroes 2. I will be checking out both, but GW2 PvP right now makes me a sad panda and I don’t have high hopes for it in the future.
Now that’s one post I completely agree with.
It’s all about the money. They made everything way too easy and simple to master just to get more $$. It’s quiet sad, because that’s what they’ve done to GW1 in last couple years when they figured out they can make a big profit out of their games (GW1 and GW2).
I personally find no challenge at this game. It took me months to master GW1 and farm HoH on daily basis, while here in GW2 I choose a class, play 2 matches, already know what exactly to do, and I just faceroll my head on the keyboard and win matches without any effort.
Ranger for pve definitely, but necro for pvp.
What exactly would thieves do if they didn’t have HS? Wouldn’t they just be useless? Mesmer should have portal nerfed/removed, other than that it’s perfectly fine.
Yup that’s what I heard as well, but we’re stuck in NA because they haven’t fixed the chest bug yet
I agree with Abazigal. Having a proper capping system like we had in GW1 would fix many problems. There would be a lot more different builds, and bunkers wouldn’t win the game alone (with portal mesmers and op eles). They should change it.
Yup, portal mes and bunker guard is a must. Also d/d eles are way stronger than thieves.
I hope those will get fixed. Thief shouldn’t be changed in any way.
Yeah d/d eles are quite overpowered, but people still complain about thieves
Ok so quite a few (mostly lower ranked) people here are suggesting that thief is too strong and needs a nerf. Mostly because of heartseeker 2222 spam. However, you have to keep in mind that thief is supposed to be similar to GW1 assassin profession. Which was basically instant kill with the combo that took 2 seconds. But as a tradeoff they were quite fragile, just like the thieves here. No one ever complained about the assassins in GW1.
If heartseeker and 22222 spam gets removed, thieves will be completely useless. They’re nothing but paper and they are supposed to kill the enemies easily. That’s just how the profession works.
So Anet please don’t nerf heartseeker, it will just completely remove thieves from pvp.

I don’t know how can they possibly add matchmaking system if pvp is already so dead. It would divide the population even more.
If thieves didn’t have heartseeker to kill fast, or stealth to survive, what would they do? No one would ever play them as they’d be useless.
Heartseeker is the only thing that keeps thieves from being completely useless. I don’t see any need for changing it, as there are so many ways to counter thieves. How come no one here suggested buffing their health or armor or anything? They’re just paper, and they’re similar to assassins in gw1, meaning they deal the highest amount of damage in short time, but they’re very fragile.
I can’t remember anyone complaining about assassins in GW1, even tho they would push 3 buttons and enemies would die.
Heartseeker is perfectly fine, no need to change anything about it.
Gamers care about christmas ? :o
But yeah since gw1 is dead I’m stuck with this game, as I have too much free time and this is the only game where I can just faceroll the keyboard and have some fun, in pvp that is.
The truly skilled player always stick to 1-2 professions and truly master them, the bad players simply switch to the FOTM profession and call themself “pro”
Actually, this game is so cookie cutter easy that I don’t see any problem with mastering all the professions within few months. It’s pretty much all the same. Kinda makes me sad they threw away all the GW 1 pvp qualities. Now I just faceroll my head on the keyboard playing any class and winning most of the tourney matches (free tourneys because paid never pop).
Organize a team with portal mes and bunker or two = farm free tourneys with 0 effort = rank up. You’re welcome
Actually yeah that is extremely annoying. I end up opening tons of tabs. Please fix asap.
They should disable class switching. Make everyone play with the class they had when they signed up for the tourney.
However, it can’t be done, people would just reroll to leave the game before it’s finished.
Well, paid tournaments are dead and free tournaments offer no rewards whatsoever. So yeah, you try and motivate me to play
Need a good rating system to atract more players before the game dies.
I have a different problem. I press heartseeker 5 times but I want to stop moving to finish target after 2 heartseekers, it doesnt let me do that but it has to perform 3 others, which is quite annoying.
Actually not making the initial portal last forever would fix everything. Just make it be 15 sec or something. That woud fix both pvp gimmick tactics and pve jump puzzle portal abuse.
I like tournaments.
Downed isn’t dead, it just means you’re a very low health and have to think and count on your team in order to get back. If there wasn’t a down system there would be zero teamplay.
Yes I’m talking about pvp here.
Balancing = very simple: nerf guardian bunkers, remove portals. That’s all that has to be done for now.
The whole game is based around downed state lol. Removing it would just ruin everything even more.
What about the time, at what hour it will be? Also, how exactly will it be played? I need more details, if possible please.
Just completely remove the portal and it’s fine. It just gives too much of an advantage and you can’t really win without it (against equally skilled opponents).
1/10 simply because it offers NOTHING that the MMO with the best pvp system ever had to offer (guild wars 1).
So, do you play mesmer or bunker?
I just don’t understand what exactly the “rogue” is, from what many people mentioned here. Also.. thieves are paper, you can counter them easily with any profession. Necro fear for example, to break their combo, or whatever invulnerability skill with any profesion.. anyway.. thieves are not op in any way.
But seriously what are rogues?
