Every class should be able to run a condi build.
That said, condi pu mes is the epitome of ‘low risk high reward’.
Honestly it’s not even a huge issue in PvP but it is pretty much single-handedly killing WvW roaming and seen as PvP balance is the Anets love-child it’s probably healthy to have this discussion here.
You could just have weakness affect condition builds…. it’s a really simple fix….

I couldn’t agree more. It’s really beyond me when vun now effects condi damage but these two don’t mitigate it.
Has there ever been an official response as to why this is the case?
I just transferred out of t3 NA last week.
I don’t know how you folks put up with the lack of match variety, there is very little room for pugs to improve when they are playing the exact same thing every week.

Power builds are more active, for the most part you have to hit something to do the damage. Condi builds need to land the initial hit to apply but can then afk and still do damage: see mesmer staff and mesmer/necro sceptre in particular.
You seem irked by the comment and I sense you want to get into pedantics so perhaps instead of me explaining the merits of power vs condi jump into pvp on a power build for your chosen class and spend some time with it.
Experience > arguing with some random on the internet.
In case you all missed one of the central aims of Anet/GW2, appeal to the casual….
On a personal level I think people running condi builds, generally speaking, genuinely don’t see the issue. In time, when they move to power builds they’ll realise the lameness of running condi and what a crutch it is for most classes (I’m looking at you perplex necros, dire mesmers and thieves). But that’s personal growth and happens gradually. There will always be condi users as there will always be newer players.
I’m sure a few people will take this as an insult, it’s not meant to be, condi’s are a part of the game. However, they have a much lower skill floor (see: WTS builds) than most power builds and in time most condi users will come to see this.

Overarching concern: what is the reaper specialisation actually fixing about the necro class?
The single greatest issue with necro in wvw/pvp is the ‘focus the necro’ meta. The reaper changes absolutely nothing about this. No active defence, stab access by going into a trait line that lowers our overall sustain, pretty rubbish shouts; necros were focused before and being ‘horror movie’ (wtf?) figures isn’t going to change that. GS is pathetic in comparison to dagger (inbdaggernerfs), slow, clunky and less than average dps. The reaper trait line offers no reason to take it over blood magic.
I really don’t understand how reaper will become used in competitive aspects of the game as spoilers it changes nothing about necro focus.

I bumped into someone yesterday and they mentioned this.
Necro is in the zerg meta for damage. Only for damage.
Reaper, as is, won’t be in the meta. Other classes do literally everything else a Reaper does but better (link to the whole spec here, give it a look). Chill is almost pointless in a zerg with the amount of condi cleanses, to be viable in a frontline means taking Foot in the Grave which means no Death Perception… no damage… no point. It’s just a weaker Guardian/Warrior that the party has to carry harder than a backline Necro, for less damage and half-kitten utilities.

Please don’t listen to engineer mains, Ele is much much better for WvW.
Solo roaming is dead if you are anywhere near the higher tiers so you will always be with people = ele will always be better (outside of personal preference).

if I was a dev I wouldn’t post here either. No good ever comes from it these days even when they try to do something. It may be their own dang fault but this place has becomes a toxic cesspool of a very jaded player-base with repetitive topics and lack of reasonableness. There is a reason reddit threads gets more attention. Sadly this forum just isn’t worth employee time anymore.

Sorry but I disagree.
A company can not lose control of its forums and just say “F it I will go somewhere else”. ANET is not just a forum goer that becomes hated by the community that can just pick their bags and move to another place.
The forums are meant to be the primary way of communicating with the community, so ANET should work to reestablish the communications here.
How? Take the backlash but continue to communicate.
They need to come here, deal with the backlash and eventually, once people realize they are being heard, they will start to become more productive and accepting – heck back lashing attitude would even become frowned upon rather than the “praising” it sometimes gets.
The community has their hand stretched towards ANET, they come here and say what they think. Problem is they have been left hanging for so long that some started to hold pitchforks and torches as well. ANET needs to reach out for those hands in the crowd that are still empty and get their help in convincing the others so this becomes a better place.
Just to add. After the new borderland maps were announced there were dev posts a full 24hours on reddit before anyone posted in their own forums. Wut?
And now we are all afk for a week because a PvP shoutcaster managed to push through a truly toxic event. Wut?

Necro is in the WvW meta only because does it immense aoe (power based) damage.
Gearing for the maximum amount of damage possible while still not getting insta-wrecked is the optimum setup for any necro in a WvW group. Anything less/anything else and you are gimping yourself and your team/server/guild.
All that said, running a full single gearset in WvW is rarely a good idea.

I agree completely mesmers are way too powerful at the moment. Free massive damage shatters with very little/no counter-play are absolutely not conducive to engaging gameplay.
How about this:
Spectral wall converts all damaging projectiles passing through it to heal their target for a flat amount (perhaps 50hp?)
Drop poison cloud for plague signet. Terror is probably a much stronger take in curses.
Torment over Doom on the staff perhaps also (Staff 3 has you covered).
Seems like it could work with some practice.
Condi necro is not very good at stacking death shroud, inherent weakness of condi builds. You could take Soul Reaping over Blood Magic, that would definitely help a whole lot with LF generation. With a Carrion amulet Death Perception is definitely an option but Foot in the Grave is always nice also!

Necro has no good heal. In fact it has no semi good heal. So it isnt viable at all

I know in top tier it probably isn’t a huge issue but for anything outside of that our best heal having a 30s c/d that has a 1.25s cast time and increases your damage taken by 10% is just silly.
That said, I am enjoying the ‘new’ feel of necro a bit, pretty sure that will wear off when I jump back on mesmer :/

The mesmer skill cap lowered significantly with this patch, whether that needs a nerf or the community needs to adjust is a personal opinion.
Personal view: mesmers are way too strong in a skilled players hands atm.

Is there any solid information out there about the effects of life-steal while in death shroud? Has anyone taken the time to test this stuff?
For example, effects of:
- food
- sigils
- runes
Also perhaps:
- regen
- sigil of restoration
- soothing mist
- tons more I’m sure I’m missing!
wvw solo/very small group build, loving it so far:
(swapping lich and plague as needed)
Been running a d/d & staff spectral death perception valk/zerk build in wvw (solo/small group). With life steal on crit food this build works so so good atm.
That said, when the randoms get their new cookie-cutter builds off metabattle things might change a bit. Time will tell.
Generally just run exactly the same meta build as in the past. Just use Blood as the third spec.

Only change that might become more stable is running WoP in addition to the 2 standard wells for all the buffs/lifesteal.

@WvW viability:
Necros, as long as they have Death Perception, will be a core part of the WvW meta. The sheer amount of damage they put out with this 1 trait alone cannot be ignored in terms of a zerg group.
I can’t speak for after the reaper hits but I’m guess all zerk or valk/zerk will be the meta until the xpac hits with lines: Spite, Soul Reaping, Blood Magic.
I know exotics/ascended is a sore point for people atm but you can get karma gear in Orr plus the TP that would allow you to approach the core build for all-in-all about 20-30g + a few 100k karma.

Do these heal you + allies, or just allies?
(And ya, I know the movement element).
I hope you also know that a 5% increase in stats is not remotely in the same realm as 10% more damage.

As a roamer I’m super disappointed that this change is happening. As a zerg member I don’t really care that much.
Assuming gear means trinkets/armor/weapons, considering most people have ascended trinkets/weapons on their zvz build then really it’s only a 3% stat difference. In high-end in gvg it’ll probably make a difference for sure but in regular zvz, meh.
The power creep in general is going to be really real with this update so I’m not sure an additional 3-5% stats are going to be the deciding factor over the myriad of additional damage every class is going to be doing anyway. And besides, rallybots will still be everywhere, that’s the real issue :P
Easy solution: better rewards in WvW.
I think you have to realise that, due to the fact anet devs never post in the wvw forum (see: anet devs posting a full day in reddit threads before the actual wvw forums, wut?), many wvw players come here to fume about the ridiculousness that is thief stealth in wvw. It’s beyond broken. Due to the fact that anet is insistent about balancing classes around, at best, 1/3 of the community (pvp) the pvp forum becomes the only place where balancing discussions can take place.
And these l2p posts, plz, I’m sure some probably do need to learn play but to paint a huge number of people with that ‘l2p’ nonsense only distracts from the actual discussion….

I understand the class rotations quite well from playing a lot with a friend but I take it from your tone, besides mechanics etc., that you would suggest not learning it?
