I think the problem for many who don’t like GW2 is they paid money for an MMO, and recieved a gem-store driven theme park.

For 50 bucks they received so much content as in 10-15 single player games

Open raid content doesn't work!

They should remove the timers in open world boss events. If the fight willl go for 10 min or 10h it will all depend on how good the people are.
I am against all sorts of instanced content in a MMO. They divide the community in little groups.

This is a character creation

Actually, GW2 can learn a lot from APB regarding PvP and open world, identical maps created when the players number is reached, etc
But hey, APB has pretty poor reviews

GW2 feels boring if you play alone or you are one of those lazy people who doesn’t like exploring and having a bit of challenge. The music is one factor which can create this boredom. It is too much laid back music and less action.

Other then what i said above, GW2 beats for me all the MMOs in the market with its landscape graphics, combat mechanics, skill effects and personal storyline

Best thing to do with these laurels?

The OP is right. The title is misleading like many other words put in-game. But this is just an example in the whole gaming industry. They give names to their games thet have nothing to do with the game itself. A mentioned above, World of Warcraft or All Point Bulletin, AION, Terra etc.

The question is…. and mini puzzle game too… how would you call this game if you had the chance to do it?

In other games they charge you money, real money for chatting in zone map while in GW2 is free and still there is no chat going on.

I paid 40$ for this. It isn’t free. I’m not aware of any f2p games that I’ve played where I’d pay to see/talk in chat…

I meant guild chat, et c. There are items you can get [for free] to chat in the general chat/zone chat.
Doesn’t matter; I’m not here to bash on the game. So far I’ve enjoyed it. Please don’t hijack the thread with fanboyism.

Excuse me? Read my post above and see I mentioned the guild and party chats in those games are free.
And yes, the game chat is dead. I agreed with you but I didn’t used these exact words but I mentioned the problems.. You only saw the money charging from other games and call me a fanboy.

You mean I got scammed by buying the box?

In other MMOs only party and guild chat are free. You can’t talk in world map or local unless you use some cash shop consumable item. it is their way of fighting the spamming bots.
If you download AION for example, you cant talk to anyone until you are higher level or if you pay some premium fee
So, compared to these games, GW2 is free chatting from lvl 1 in all chat channels

Well, people should be talking about everything but hey, they have TS3, Skype and the old fashion of typing words is gone. This is the problem.
And another problem is they cant speak freely because some frustrated individuals might report them for speaking their mind

*Extend the level cap to 999.
<snip>
*This is for elitists.

And for people who have to have pure vertical progression no matter how unimaginably grindy .

Not necessarily “unimaginably grindy” because I got over 1000 levels (aka skill points) in GW1 with one character just trying to get 50/50 in HoM. I am sure my other characters are around 500-700.

I have 18 character slots. It proposes that for each one of them I need to get another 919 levels to be complete or I’ll be 919 point behind on every stat.

If I obsessed over one main it would still be months of chasing after undifferentiated XP. But add alts to the picture and “unimaginably grindy” is a rather kind description. I think “Kitten this, I’m out.” is probably a lot more likely response for me or any anyone else that would like to have terminal stats and get on with playing WvW on a even mechanical footing.

I don’t make a big fuss over the manifesto, but getting to a point where characters have terminal stat/gear in a tolerable amount of time is something the game does now that appeals to me very much. Especially for alts who, prior to the introduction of the Ascended tier, actually geared up considerably faster than your first/main character did.

You should not worry. The amount of grind you will need to do to craft a full legendary armor set will be similar to this if not longer. I bet you will not be able to craft legendary armors for all your alts either.

This just gives a long term achievable legendary armor for all non-crafters.
Not every one enjoys this mini game even if they can just spend all their cash buying gems to turn into mats.

Also, you need to have the gift of exploration for crafting some type legendary weapon so, you need to have the map completion star on various characters if they all want one legendary weapon. I don’t see any difference compared to the 1000 level system
Why worry about stats. it is just one set of gear for 1000 levels.

We have now exotic armors for karma , dungeon tokens and gold. So there are 3 ways of obtaining the exotic stats. No one is forcing other to play dungeons if they only like open world. No one is forcing them to do events if they know how to make money and buy it directly from the shop

This 1000 level system offers a chance for getting a legendary armor for actually playing the game any way you like. You can level by crafting, doing WvW or just doing events in the Open World. I am sure a lot of people level up in the Living Story too

Best in slot gear. Right now, ascended gear is best in slot. It’s the highest stats you can get in each slot (except like aqua breather I think).

Some people feel they must have the highest numbers, even though they don’t need those numbers for anything they’re doing.

thank you. I saw that bis things in many thread but none explained it.

Not true, there’s the Star of Transference.
http://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/Star_of_Transference

I thought the idea was ridiculous at first…
But honestly it seems like an ok additional feature.
The stat increase maybe needs to be balanced or removed..
But all in all, a system to gain stuff from “leveling up” above the normal lvl 80 would be interesting.
Unlocking pieces of class specific gear could be interesting.
Titles.
Achievements.
But it should of course not be required for any other progress ingame.
And whatever you do in the game, except pvp, you level up.

But optional, extra bonuses. Not OP and not required. Maybe some gem and gold reward and perhaps laurels.

I haven’t heard of it, but my 14.393.913 exp can prove that I have got the skill points by playing and not using any shortcut. Or are there exp potion too which I don’t know of?

Night time = hard mode (scary hauling, bats screams, foes jumping/rushing at you from the dark, new darkens foes like ghosts, glowing creatures, animals sleep: does, stags, skaels, drakes, etc.)

Day time = normal mode (what ever we have now)

As it looks now, we have a sleepless population in Tyria. They never go to sleep, not even the humans.

This difference between night and day should have been their first focus on how to build a Living World.

*Extend the level cap to 999.

*Leveling should be extremely difficult from level 80.

*Tome of Knowledge and any item that grant level will not work above level 80.

*Each level grants the character 1+ all attributes/stats .

*Add the rankings for high level characters on the Leaderboards.

*Every time a character reaches a hundred levels they unlock a new weapon (maybe?).

*You don’t have to grind for this because you level up as you enjoy a particular activity in the game like WvW/sPvP/PvE.

*This is for elitists.

  • Add a rank for every 50 levels and change the character’s portrait frame
    (like Eli Stormstrike.8637: said)
  • The levels over 80 will only be seen in the Hero panel and won’t be seen by other players as numbers (portrait frames will be a visual hint tho)
  • Increase the level amount of exp needed by 3 (just to give a number to your harder leveling after lvl 80 suggestion)
  • Every 100 levels you will unlock a profession specific piece of gear:
    - helm at lvl 100
    - shoulders at lvl 200
    - chest at lvl 300
    - leggings at lvl 400
    - boots at lvl 500
    - gloves at lvl 600
    - back piece at lvl 700
    - main weapon set of choice = max two weapons at lvl 800
    - 2nd weapon set of choice = max two weapons at lvl 900
    - The Legend title and full underwater set (breather and weapons) at lvl 1000

All unlocks are account bound and will be placed as skins in the achievement panel and will only be used with characters of the same profession even if they are low level
The character who unlocks them personally will get an Actual gear with stats so to make it like the World Completion star

Note: This system can be considered an alternative path for obtaining a full Legendary gear set for those who don’t like farming mats or crafting. The amount of game time required to obtain this legendary set is similar to the current system for obtaining a legendary weapon.

  • Experience guild banners or gem store exp buffs will still work.

As for the comment about forcing players to “experience” WvW for world completion, I am going to stop just shy of calling bullkitten on that. PvE players who want world completion go to WvW to experience being ganked and teabagged. Really encourages them to play the game. :roll eyes:
Is Arenanet really that desperate to gain just one or two WvW players, that they feel it is necessary to subject thousands to the humiliation that they will have to go through in WvW? Is that how Anet sees it? That humiliating players is a good way to get them to enjoy the game?

100% of Cantha exploration in GW1 included Jade Quary and Fort Aspenwood Maps so nothing new.

So, first we have to solve The Mystery of The Lazy People , and after that we should start to think new Dynamic Events, activities, titles, sub professions, traits, skills, skins and all other Horizontal progression.

+1 for this statement. The Mystery of The Lazy People

I think it is the problem not only with GW2 but with all MMOs

Why many people download the F2P or B2P games and quit after a few weeks?
- they feel to far away from what they need to get
- they don’t feel it is worth the effort (they have other better things to do)
- they get bored by it (game play, mechanic, graphics, repetitiveness etc)
- they feel they need to pay to be the best and grinding takes too long

If something is to far out of reach then it’s not fun to work towards it. Especially if the way to get it is not by real play elements but by grinding. Thats something else as being lazy. It’s a game people want to enjoy. They don’t want an endless grind.

Really everything you say there has nothing to do with ‘lazy’ people. It has to do with fun. Or was that your point?

Yes, you have point in there. if something is fun to do people will do it for a while and later they will think about reward vs time and in here we can talk about the creeping “laziness”
People want it quick and with minimum to none effort or they will say it is not fun or it is too grindy or it is unfair

Cosmetic and Cosmetic rewards only should be used for the higher end Hardcore players, not things that affect Gameplay in any way, because it automatically makes them more powerful players.

Who talked about more powerful skills? maybe the new skills are purely some new cosmetic animations for the exiting ones. Is that sovereign you would agree with?

For example, the seed turret for silvary is pretty simple now: a flower. How about a new skill that looks like a toxic spore and shoots other type of ammo.
This could be enough for making a player feel different without making it more powerful.

Making my Longbow shoot Killer Bees instead of Wooden Arrows is just a waste of resorces if that is the only effect I get from getting a New Skill, you know, something we haven’t gotten any of for almost two years (minus two very situational healing skills). If Anet spends their time on making New skills with Cosmetic effects only, then it is a complete waste of effort and time, because those resources could be put into making entirely new skills, or at the very least, skills with differing effects on the flow of Combat, and increasing Build diversity in the process. Anet should be spending their time on that first if its anything related to skills, and While I have made a Suggestion that alters the visual effects of skills, it is through an equipment slot, not through new skills. Its also nowhere near the top of my list. That way, all your skills (or a certain set of skills) are affected, instead of just one.

Ok, it seems you know better then me how the game works. How would you re-make the suggestion so it will comply to your expectations. it is easy to point out issues but it is harder to create a solution. I let you this privilege, if you don’t mind.
As a brainstorming discussion, all participants should develop an idea not only one do the thinking and others point out the negative things.

I

Dude, that’s part of the development process, not just in games, but in anything. Its nice to look at how cool an idea will be, and how awesome it would work in the game, but, you kind of have to look at what the possbile negatives would be as well. It would be foolish to ignore and worry later, only to regret that decision halfway through development or after release because the downsides did end up outweighing the positives! We should be voicing our concerns now instead of creating an “I hate Anet!” thread three months later.

Withhold criticism: In brainstorming, criticism of ideas generated should be put ‘on hold’. Instead, participants should focus on extending or adding to ideas, reserving criticism for a later ‘critical stage’ of the process. By suspending judgment, participants will feel free to generate unusual ideas.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Brainstorming

I am not aware of where they said this idea will be implemented so you should not worry yet that you will be forced to play something you hate
They didn’t even give a simple reply to it like “this is interesting idea” or else

Immanuel.1560’s Idea ::: https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/gw2/CDI-Character-Progression-Horizontal/3462132

How would you address the fact that many people do not play PvP in any way, and thus are locked out of skills under the system you proposed?

Edit : And there are Some people who only play WvW, should they be forced to play PvE content and do Jumping puzzles in order to unlock new skills as well?

I like this idea, if people have that major a concern about not being able to unlock the new skills you could make it that each of the mini-titles unlock one skill for your account (non specifically). So that you’d only have to do it all if you want everything. Having the Grandmaster title awarding a unique skill and maybe other rewards too would be nice.

Wvw,Pve and Pvp are each an aspect of gameplay mastery should require you to display skills in all three areas. Plus it adds a unique reward for genuine skill that can’t be bought.

I’d consider tweaking the group events one, I believe I’ve just barely completed over 3000 events total group events accounting for maybe 500 of them in the year and a half the games been out., so 300 might be a better target.

As for fractals, as the level will go up it wouldn’t be a concrete goal so I’d specify a specific level, say 40? or the current max of 50?

you could make it that each of the mini-titles unlock one skill for your account
Plus it adds a unique reward for genuine skill that can’t be bought

But Even with your solution Conski, it still locks players out of gaining access to all skills because, they don’t want to do Jumping Puzzles or WvW or PvP or Killing Mega Bosses or Exploration stuff. What your solution, and the original idea will do is create an Elitist climate throughout all areas of the game.

I’m not actually against, I’ll go learn to be better at PvP so I can kill more players so I can unlock that skill. But, I am in that demographic of players that would consider themselves Hardcore Players.

BUT, for the Casual Players, many of which can’t find the time investment to even complete one item on that list given a year of time, It locks them out of quite a bit of content related to using more skills. If those skills have the slightest whiff of being more powerful than regular skills, then you will see the forums light up on fire with angry players. You will see alot of casual players leave the game, and Guild Wars 2 will generally be much worse off for it.

Sure, it would increase build diversity,…for the 5% of players that can actually finish all of those tasks. But for the other 95% that might finish one or two, but never all of them, they are going to feel left out.

I saw the forums light up in fire because of the need to go in WvW in order to get Map completion so… nothing new in this field

This system is a long term goal for horizontal progression, if you feel forced to do it, it means you are a compeltionist which takes out the part of being forced to do it. Compeltionists are only in one way: hard core gamers.
So, the casuals will do what they can while the completitionists will do everything.
As simple as that

- Players want challenge…. this is a long term challenge
- Players want things to make them different hen others…. this makes them different then others because they get skills that can’t be simply bought with skill points earned from champ loot boxes
- Elitists don’t want all the noobs to get it – this system allows this (expl: if you are not good at JPs you will not be a GWAMM)
- The casuals want to have at least the hope they can do it…. this system give them that hope.

I haven’t done the Jumping Puzzle title in SAB but I see people with that Mastery in Applied Jumping title. Do you think I mind? no, becasue i am not good at those.
I see people wearing the back pack skin from TA aetherbalde path.. Do you think I mind? No because I don’t like non solo-able instanced content

To sum it up, your is a personal point of view and it may be shared by others, but the meaning of challenge is to do things you are not normally good at and try to develop yourself

If you bought GW2 just to play WvW, that was your choice. Instead of selling you the WvW part separately like GW1 would have done, they sold you 3 games in one: PvE PvP, WvW. What part of it you like to do it is simply a personal choice not and enforcement
To get GWAMM in GW1 you needed to max titles resulting from PvP and PvE as well including dungeons and HM vanquishing. One for the hardest ones was The cartographer title which could not be done without TexMod. To know about TexMod you needed to be more then just a simple casual player.

I have seen that people have been talking in here about skills and how to unlock them.

My suggestion to this is to let those skills be rewards from Racial Titles . When character have achieved some specific Racial Title, it will give skills as reward. They are somehow related to the title, or to what requirements you have to do to get the title.

Benjamin made that racial title table, and I modified it bit in here adding more detailed information to connect the title to unlocking skill mechanism:

https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/gw2/CDI-Character-Progression-Horizontal/page/41#post3459941

Lets take the requirements from that table and see what kind of skills you could open by achieving these titles.

1. Complete all jumping puzzles with specific race / Racial mini title 1
- Reward from this title are leaping skills, long range skills, and long range evade skills.

2. Use any Racial skills 1000 times (cumulative) with specific race / Racial mini title 2
- Reward from this title are Racial elite skills which gives condition damage to a single foe and support to nearby allies

3. Complete Personal Story with a specific race / Racial mini title 3
- Reward from this title are Racial elite skills which gives DPS and AoE damage to foes

4. Defeat 1000 players being other race than you in PvP / Racial mini title 4
- Reward from this title are single damage skills with high DPS

5. Complete 1000 successfull events in WvW with a specific race / Racial mini title 5
- Reward from this title are skills with single condition damage skills with high DPS

6. Complete all Dungeons with a Specific Race / Racial mini title 6
- Reward from this title are AoE supporting skills and AoE healing skills and Single high DPS skills

7. Obtain max Fractail level with a specific race / Racial mini title 7
- Reward form this title are single target supporting skills and single target healing skills, AoE high DPS and Condition damage Skills

8. Complete 3000 successfull Group Events in PvE with a specific race / Racial mini title 8
- Reward from this title are AoE supporting skills, AoE Healing skills and AoE Condition damage skills.

9. Complete All World Boss Events Successfull 20 times with a specific race / Racial mini title 9
- Reward from this title are Long Range High DPS skills and AoE supporting skills

10. Complete ”Been There Done That” with a specific Race
- Reward from this title are long term Running skills

11. Obtain all racial Master Titles / GRAND TITLE
Reward from this are Elite skill High AoE support, High AoE Condition damage, High AoE DPS and High AoE Healing skills same time.

Of course, this can be included into a vertical progression too, but it brings a different way into the unlocking skills system which would diversify the skill acquisition making it a horizontal progression valid option. Titles are optional.

The Racial Titles as Nike said, they are long term goals due to their nature, so adding skill unlocks to various tiers in a specific title for each title will make it really interesting goal for many players expanding the pool of skills.

Colin is right. if you unlock something really hard, the casual players won’t even bother but if you unlock something really easy then the elitists who get it will be hurt in their pride because they will be drawn back to mere commoners
