Weapons and armors need to evolve from exotic to ascended and legendary.
The more you use a specific weapon the faster that weapon will transform into an ascended one.
There won’t be a bar to fill up, it will just come as a surprise to you. Lets say you need to score 10 billion damage with your exotic then it will transform into an ascended.
Of course there will be people killing the white foes in Orr to get it faster but for a normal player, this will take a reasonable amount of time to get while not affecting his gameplay. he cam play whatever he wants and not farm or grind specific things and then craft.
So no bar to watch filling up, no grinding. And the requirements can vary: 10 bil damages, or 1000000 champions, or anything else thet can fit up in a grid behind the program with various ways to interact.
Why would I be interested in exotic, ascended or legendary gear or any other character progression because the only fun I have in this game is when I am doing the Champ Train in Queensdale? it’s easy, relaxing, not much thinking required and you can take breaks whenever you like. Also, you are not alone like in allother parts of the open world, people chat and have fun playing together. Some take it too seriously, others are there for various reasons, but all in all is the most fun activity this game offers for me
I am not a PvPer or a dungeon runner nor a crafter so for me you can add infinite tiers to gears and infinite number of dungeons/fractals because I couldn’t care less

Just give a meaning to “ferocity”, “charm” and “dignity” which is a feature completely ignored since the first beta test.
Think like it as a easy mode – charm, normal mode – dignity and hard mode – ferocity
In easy mode, the foes have a less sensitivity sensor while in hard mode even the white and yellow foes will start attacking you.
These personality bars will always vary depending on your actions not only on your talking to NPCs
The more finisher moves you use, the more the ferocity grows up. The more you are healing and reviving others, your charm will go up and the more insignificant (less aggressive meaning, sneaky) you are your dignity will go up
Killing foes with weapon skills counts for dignity, Killing foes with elite skills counts for ferocity, while killing foes with conditions counts for charm
There are all sorts of ways to make these personality feature work and it will be constantly progessing. Giving the donation to the Dolyaks in the LA now as Wintersday events will count for charm while hitting the skirts with snowballs counts for dignity and kicking them counts for ferocity
Note*
The personality bars will not be limited, they will be infinite, so for someone who is really ferocious by his actions, he will need a lot of work to get his charm bar up.
think of the magic find bar with infinite levels.
Level 56 ferocity, level 28 charm and level 40 dignity. Getting charm up will need a lot of reviving and healing

I came about this post of a several month s ago and what I really liked about it was the fact that it expanded on the current professions but added horizontal progression-without the idea of balancing classes nightmare please consider something like this:
I will just quote:
Warriors > Berserker —- Legionnaire —- Duellist
Guardians > Crusader —- Augmentor —- Patron
Necromancer > Occultist —- Visionary —- Witcher
Rangers > Hunter —- Strider —- Mystic
Thiefs > Rogue —- Infiltrator —- Saboteur
Engineers > Alchemist —- Artificer —- Pioneer
Mesmers > Chronomancer —- Fencer —- Bard
Elementalists > Runologist —- Sorcerer —- Arcanist
—-NEW CLASS – 3rd Soldier—-
Lancers > Dragoon —- Templar —- Partizan >
That way players can:
progress with their characters
individualize themself better and make them more unique
unlock alot of new skills, traits, weapons ect. just through progressing with their class specific Talents that define, into which direction you specialize your character
And how many new “profession specific armor looks” can this create/
Awesome
Ah… and these profession branching can be added as an Order’s Choise.
At the end, when you have “saved the world” from the dragon and you are like a friend to all of the orders, you can have a choice of what you like to become next and that will be offered by a specific order
(edited by Ronah.2869)
Most MMOS if not all focus their progression in 2 ways: increasing the level cap or adding more better gears. Both mechanics imply they need to add more High level content while the low level content is ignored.
My idea – which is not new to some MMOs – is to add levels to the skills which in GW2 style they don’t mean to be more powerful due to the scaling down system, but they need to have better visuals.
I will give different examples:
A lvl 1 “barrage” will have visually less arrows then a lvl 3 “barrage”
A lvl 1 “stomp” will make visually less dust then a lvl 3 “stomp”
A lvl 1 “minion” will be visually smaller then a lvl 3 “minion”
etc.
many people would have already quit the game if there was no train
there is nothing so exacting in the game and it is like Aerlen.5326 said: " (face it, a lot of those tasks are “kill x number of things”)"
Why “kill” the only fun and relaxing activity in this game? You think everyone wants hard mode content with brainstorming on strategies and attack plans? No sorry.
Yes, putting all updates together from start of Living Story until now is very much enough to fulfill an expansion.
You are right. The amount of content added can fulfill an expansion but only if you have played it all otherwise it is just an achievement panel which you will never complete.
An expansion gives every player the opportunity to play all the content even after 10 years while living story leaves here an there a few unrelated marks
One last point. When Factions came out we got an entire new expansion. People beat it in 2 days. The entire expansion. Do you remember how many people complained about how small it was and how little content there was compared to Prophcies?
People beat the storyline in 2 days not the whole game which can happen in GW2 too if you have a maxed out character.
Although, the GW2 has more quests then GW1, they are just filler up. Kill 10 “various” rats every 2 weeks is content, of course, but it is not evolving the game. It is just a matter of how to give people easier way to get achievements or a faster way to fill up the achievement points bar
A-Net was a ~20 employee company at the timer of GW1 and the content was way more quality based then the new A-net with ~200+ employees.
if you just compare that, you will realize that they didn’t evolve in quality but only in numbers
I like GW2, I play it often, but if it lasts 10 years will be the lack of competition on the market not for its quality, which is different then why GW1 lasts even now
Here is how GW1 evolved so you can compare it to what we have now in GW2
GW Prophesies released on April 28, 2005
after 12 months
GW Factions released on April 28, 2006,
after 6 months
GW Nightfall released on October 27, 2006,
after 10 months
GW Eye of the North released on August 31, 2007
so, over a period of 2 years and 3 months the GW1 has expanded a LOT.
Gw2 is now 1 year and 3 months old. Personally I don’t see the game catch up with GW1 rate of adding content in the 12 months
Sorry, but the LS content will never -ever match the quality of GW1 releases in the same amount of time no matter how many billions of bites the statistics will show us that have been released.
Or you can do the champ train events in Queensdale and get pretty rich at the end selling all the things you get. The leveling rate is 1 level /hour or less. it will feel like a Nascar race with hundreds of laps going from troll, to bandit then oak and spider following up to the boar. From time to time you might take a pit stop route to the wasp.
Toymaker Tixx IS going to kill Scarlet. He will make from her body parts little Scarlet dolls and give one doll to all Tyria dwellers. Each and every night those Scarlet dolls will wake up and do some pranks to their owners.
And each and every wintersday these Scarlet dolls will make alliance with princess dolls and they attack to unsuspecting people. Princess dolls will scream spine-chilling way and Scarlett dolls will yell: Die, die, die, die, die, die, die!
Cool idea.+ 1 for it
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Scarlet_woman
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Aleister_Crowley
Scarlet Woman, the name Crowley used for his female sex magick practitioners in reference to the consort of the Beast of the Apocalypse
This is fitting too
(edited by Ronah.2869)
it is simple. replace the boring speed buff skills with summoning mounts skills. just a animation difference, that’s all
1 no loot/kill/resource steal mechanic
2 scaling down system
3 art and design (all categories: characters, environment, ui, etc)
4 the personal storyline
5 no quest log
In GW1people complained that they could only play humans. Now they complain they need to play more races/ What a funny world we live in
I think all threads should go simultaneously because they regard different a parts of community which can be explained better by the picture below.
Only a very few of all players are interested in all aspects of the game
Name a more alt friendly MMO then GW2, then you will have a point.
Running the world with a lvl 80 alt should not take you more then a weekend to open 75% of the WPs even if we assume you got lvl 80 by just doing the starter zone event grinding or crafting.
- GW1
So you got all map open for all alts in GW1? Don’t remember that
The only things you unlocked for account in GW1 were skills for the heroes and hard mode but nothing else
Name a more alt friendly MMO then GW2, then you will have a point.
Running the world with a lvl 80 alt should not take you more then a weekend to open 75% of the WPs even if we assume you got lvl 80 by just doing the starter zone event grinding or crafting.
The things players want to find in the game when they are returning back after 1 year in my opinion are:
- new vast territories to explore with new bunch or heart quests, pois, vistas
- new skills and classes, skill trees or skill advancement
- new playable races
- various UI changes
- personal story advancement
See, this is where people need to do a bit more research. The reason why the looking for group tool never has anything in it, is because groups are formed very quickly. If you don’t believe it, try it yourself.
It’s game wide, not server wide (or at least region wide) and there’s no need to wait for a healer and tank.
Most times, when I post in the LFG tool (which isn’t that often), I have a party in under two minutes.
And of course, there’s new content every two weeks. If you don’t like that content, obviously you won’t be happy, but I’m really happy with the new Tequatl, the new path of TA, and I really enjoy the tower, too.
I do get that some people don’t like what’s on offer, but that doesn’t mean others don’t.
I was talking about a player who remembers the game is his /her computer and clicks the play button and not about internet researchers. Usually people click play and if they see things have changed they will probably.possibly do some research but not before
First of all I will say that I am not talking about myself in this comment but I try to put myself in the shoes of a player who has played GW2 for about 1 month at the release, got an lvl 80 with exotics on, run a few dungeons and then left but now he/she comes back after and +1 year.
What is the experience he/she will get? What is the difference compared to what he/she has seen 1 year ago?
The player will see
- the gem store is full of things to buy but the gem price has sky-rocketed
- there are the same heart quests and events around the world
- the majority of zones are not as populated as they were at start
- except Kessex Hills, every other zone looks the same or has changed so little that it is in-noticeable
- the items sold in the trading post are the same, except a few new skins too unaffordable to bother about them
- the number of dungeons is the same only there is some new type of dungeon called fractal giving some new ascended gear making his/her old exotic gear obsolete
- he/she might accidentally find there is a LFG tool that has no party requests in it no matter how much the refresh button is pressed
- also, accidentally he/she might find there is a new high level zone called Southsun cove with very few players in it and very hard to solo with no incentive to go there other then pure exploration.
How long do you guys think, this player will play the game on his/her comeback?
(edited by Ronah.2869)
Give one reward chest once/event/day/account and remove all other boss chests
I think voting is the better solution for picking up topics.
I think one of the most discussed topics is Mounts. A topic about that will win the longest forum debate ever
I dont think many people are actually reading the mails. They just take the rewards – sometimes more in a row because they don’t bother open every time each one of them – and not care why/who what the mail was about. It is a wall of text for God’s sake
I would rather give the rewards directly to the account wallet and if, only if the player is talking to the heart NPC, he will have an option to read that text what is now sent by mail. It is more natural like this and not some mail in an virtual mail box
Ive ran over 200+ fractals and I dont even have a half the skins, I have multi characters in the 20’s and 30’s and my main fractal character is 49 and Ive done about 30-40 level 40+
I have 10+ lvl 80 and never did one single fractal
My fractal level is 0 i guess LOL
You should hire some people to read the forum “live” and every hour they will come to you the respective designers, developers, etc and ask you the questions about the things in the forum.
They will take little notes of what you are saying and then come and reply to the specific posts.
You guys should be busy developing the game not answering the posts in the forum because writing takes time. let others write after you gave them the answers orally in any free time you have
Make inside of the company a big list of topics and select 1 randomly every 3 days and let people discuss it for as much as the thread goes on.
Pick up your topics from various sources and make it as simple as possible using specific targets: " How to make Crafting more fun " or “If added, how would you implement mounts in the game?” or “Renown heart quests improvements”
For this, create a new Forum subject “Collaborative development” where only the A-net can open up threads and the people can only reply.

There are so many account bound items nowadays in the game from gathering tools to costumes that requires a more convenient way to transfer them from one character to another then the account bank
The account bound items can be stored in a similar way to “unlocked rewards” in achievement panel in hero window
All account bound items will go directly in there without filling up bank space and can be worn by all characters simultaneously. No need for storing them as physical items.
In this way, they will not be anymore in danger to be accidentally deleted
This update I think I’ll pass. Not a dungeon runner myself. Perhaps, I’ll see you in the tower
If they want they can bring all our characters to level 1 if the new game changes requires it as long as they keep our achievement points.
There should be mounted combat on the ground and in the air.
An aerial combat similar to the underwater combat would be awesome addition to the game: new flying foes from which the harpies won’t miss out to appear, new dangers “raining” from the sky onto the ground – using certain skills in the air will affect the things in the ground too mostly visually than effectively
Now, don’t think of flying mounts only as living animals/birds. Some can be any sort of technology like hoverboards, jetpacks, deltaplane etc
if you guys ever will decide to introduce heroes in GW2, this is what they should evolve into http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Fy7g2DAUNDw and how an epic battle against evil foes should look like
Here is a 16 players co-op gameplay

it would be nice if A-Net would make some 5 man dungeons where a player can bring his own army. he is a hero after all.
It can develop into a new dimension of character development. Building an army: Archers, Paladins, Inquisitors, Air Units, etc
Here is a clip which I have got the idea from
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YhR5mC9r9G4
A-Net should understand why the people prefer to do the Champion trains (in Queesndale)
- it gives decent amount of experience, karma and money
- it does not require special skills, traits, builds or weapons
- it is easy to understand the mechanics without needing a brainstorming session on tactics
- it givers decent loot
People need some brainless activity to relax in their free time because they do enough thinking at work or school.
if someone wants a challenge they will play PvP games or single player games not MMOs
They needed Scarlet to have a villain that can twist dragons minds making them evil so the Chinese release will not be a bad move. Asians like dragons, they are always good. You cannot bring evil dragons in that community unless some maniac like Scarlet is behind all their evilness. That is why, little by little Scarlet has twisted all foes, so she can prove she is can do it, She also may be from a parallel world – see infinity ball chatter – in which everything is turned bad.
Remember in GW1 the dragons were not entirely evil.
If there was no achievements and no rewards added to the Living Story, very few would do the content.
lvl 80+ mobs in a lvl 15-25 zone is bad design
No one cares of the LS events after then they finish them for themselves. if you are not present when “everyone is doing it” then you are destined to fail. The LFG is rarely used and solo-ing is almost never an option.
This is the trouble with the LS content: It is either too easy and then the people will complain, or it is too hard and then others will complain.
It seems A-Net has not understood yet that even if the game is a MMO, and people like to zerg they will not zerg infinitely just to help out some “lost players” so the content is for these present “at the right place at the right time”
All the rest are excluded.
Of course, some will go with the “solution”: join a guild and ask hep. This kind of answer strips you off your dignity as a hero and transforms you into a beggar at others mercy
The tower maze spawn is way too over the top. I know there are people who claim they can solo the maze, but I doubt they can solo a full spawn. I think most likely, a zerg probably cleared most of the spawn leaving them to “solo” their way up.
Which brings us to the biggest flaw of the dungeon. People who have not unlocked all the travel golems are going to suffer. Who is going to help them climb up the tower?
If this spawn rate does not change, I honestly see this dying faster than Teq.
You are right. This “public dungeon” as I may call it is really bad implemented. I like the feeling, the design, the atmosphere but is meant to be done with a zerg or having a lot of running speed. But somehow, people are not too much interested in zerging now. It feels they do it the first 2-3 days then if you missed it you will not see the end of the arc….again.
well, A-net needs to think more about the players mentality and not how they want the players to play the game.
Maybe it is out of the topic but I will post it anyway
here is what I think of new way to develop the character
the system is imagined around no levels
- weapon skills become stronger the more you are using the respective weapon. they will be maxed out in power when you have reached that weapon’s mastery achievement.
- utility skills will have their own system of achievements similar to the weapon mastery
- as there is no levels for the character, there are no trait points either. instead, the “trait skills” I II III IV, etc will be all placed in a grid which will be unlocked with skill points earned by scrolls of knowledge or skill challenges. The trait skills can be powered up more using more skill points into them up to a max
- weapons will not have a level requirement but their basic stats will increase depending on what experience you have accumulated with that weapon type in the weapon mastery account achievement. Weapons may still have inscriptions on them for various auxiliary stats
- armors will get better defense through reinforcement. This will be done in the repair NPC using the skill points. The armors which you will equip will have their defense rate higher with an armory mastery achievement similar to weapon mastery.
- skill points once open will be account bound
- once a player has got all the weapon/armory mastery maxed out, all the alts he will create will benefit from this making the system very alt friendly
Using skill points to increase armor, skills and trait skills will give a very high importance for the skill points. To avoid exploits of this system – aka making new characters and get the starter zones skill points – I suggest the skill challenges are account bound too meaning once a skill point is aquired is unlocked for all account.
Someone suggested country flags as a finisher. Would love a swedish flag to impale people with. And 2v2 to find victims…
This is great. But they should give bound the flag to the IP where it is bought from so people won’t cheat putting other country’s flag then they belong to
Flying on an eagle over Genddarin Fields, avoiding any game play antics whatsoever, flying your sorry but down to Malchor’s Leap at lvl 13 on a BIRD is not quite what ANet has in mind.
I bet A-net didn’t have this in mind either
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HtDtACnsF_Y
Judging form all the negativism seen in this thread i would suggest A-net to scrap all the character selection screen for good
Who needs this crap anyway?
Something like the picture below will be convenient, fast loading, easy to understand not fancy, etc
Character selection screen is no different in GW 2 than it is in GW 1… I’m getting mighty annoyed at people comparing this game to another.
and I am getting annoyed by people not seeing the forest for the trees.
(edited by Ronah.2869)
We agree, this is something we’ve been discussing a lot lately and working on some various answers for, but I’m curious:
What rewards would you like to see from rewards? Would they be different when you’re leveling up than when you’re level 80? What would motivate you to want to go around the world playing as many different events as possible, rather than the same 4-5 over and over again?
Some of the fun challenges we are currently solving, but it’s great to hear peoples thoughts on this subject as well.
You want players to do the events in the world? this is a joke as doing all hearts and events on the way can only earn you 10g at maximum which barely you can buy a little more100 gems with them
When the game started, 100 gems were 21 silvers now they are almost 7 golds
and again… you want players to play the other events?
What a sadistic request from you guys.
Make the rewards so the player has 100g when he has finished all the maps and then probably some people will see it as a profitable way but not before that. Even the karma is insufficient to buy an exotic gear when you finally get to Orr
> People are getting about 2 golds/h doing the 4-5 evets – aka QD champ train. So playing about 70h to get to lvl 80 ( or even less) will earn you 140 golds.
> Playing the same 70h doing all hearts and events in the way, repairing armor pretty often will earn you 7-10 golds.
No sane person will choose the second path no matter how interesting the events are, except probably the new players who have missed out on the train chatter in the map or they are playing their first and only character
Remember these phrases a new player always asks:
- what is the fastest way to level?
- what is the easiest way to make money?
- what is the simplest way to get max gear?
Any other affirmations like
- how nice and intelligent way to combine skills
- how cool animations the characters have
- what a beautiful world to explore
etc
are purely a beautiful dream from each gaming company.

They didn’t even copy the character screen from their GW1.
This is how uninspired designers they had. This one looks like it was made by some of those students they have with internships so it was cost free.
