Last night I ran staff sw/sw. I went from my usual top scorer to the lowest. I felt my burst lay in a staff combo, and my swordsman was getting eaten by AoE. That increase in damage really hurts our phants.

Pistol is still better for a sustained phantasm presence.

Lol Then you must be newer than most Earlier on, they could stealth, attack, and re-stealth without getting revealed. This meant they were invisible the whole time just backstabbing away because the reveal debuff didn’t exist. (Hehe just wanted to shoot you down on that ridiculous comment)

Pshhh, thief was at its most balanced then. It’s been downhill ever since.

It’s funny that usually the bad players who needed mesmers to be this overbuffed now tell everyone to l2p.

People who are actually good at their class realize where the issues are and what needs to be toned down.

Yeah… the small number of changes from the good players have been made clear, even if they’ve been lost within the din of hundreds of QQ threads, and thousands of QQ replies. All the rest of it, all that noise? Learn to play issues.

So like, you know how things go. Lockdown is the kitten, always has been, but is finally being appropriately represented in terms of skill to reward ratio. It’s said that the skill floor for mes has lowered, and so now many players are enjoying running their flavor of the month high dps burst builds. Never the less, Mesmer still remains a high skill ceiling class for pros to take full advantage of.

Honestly the only real issue when you wipe away all the tears is that we have a largely lazy, inexperienced playerbase who’re finally having to learn to play in a hostile environment. Kind of the way mesmers have always had to play. The environment is still hostile for us, so its nice we’re all playing the same game now

You’ve managed to make IoL palatable by making it double cast. That said, you’ve still had to use two utilities to make it happen.

I had my final thought while reading down the thread. If getting people up off the ground is important to me, I still think I can do a stronger job overall with MoD, f4, and a straight up hard res.

iWarlock has always been a high damage, hard hitting attack. But making the strike optimal was like trying to align the stars with your hands.

Anyway, iWarlock and iMage bolts are horrible and easily countered by walking in the opposite direction, or jumping (20s) around in circles (1:00)

Seriously, really, really easy. I mean it’s super easy for me to distinguish between a good, and an new/bad/average/poor Mesmer which 99% of the latter Mesmers I’ve seen post patch are. I know what you’re thinking though: “Of course fighting bad mesmers is easy when you’re using the Mesmer class to counter with, duh!” Seriously though, I can use a killshot war which is a mechanical nightmare in a vs mesmer matchup and still outplay these guys.

So if I can do it, why can’t you?

As a Warrior, you’ve got Stability and endure pain. As a Mesmer, you have the same tools they do.

I’m a super durp warrior at best, and given the only build I play, vs Mesmer I use the only advantage I’ve got which is superior landspeed, and single target ranged damage (rifle + kshot). Yes, I play ultimate killshot war.

Oh and in place of endure pain I just take dodge rolls.

Yeah, trouble is you’re wrong. I main mes and havent lost a match with a mesmer (or two, or three) on the other team yet. Why? Because skill level is real, and being a L2P issue, given that I’ve learnt to play Mesmer it’s easy to counteract, in particular, less seasoned Mesmers.

Also, i really doubt you 1v3 those mes. Probably got carried by your team. CG.

OP had also said (team with more mesmers wins- see below quote). So if reading comprehension is a concern of yours, you might want to go back and try to figure out why you read “1v3” in my post. Also, I don’t know what game you’re playing but yes, I agree, GW2 PvP is a team game. So I’m not sure why you’re getting prickly with (the perceived) idea that I was claiming some sort of solo 1v5 PvP victory. I mean, I don’t know what your games look like but my team have to play their part too in order for us to win.

Its the payoff for having to stand there and charge for 2 and a half seconds and it only procs chaotic interruption and power block if you interrupt a skill.

It has always been an instant cast skill. All mantras have been an insta cast skill since the beginning of time itself and youre just now complaining about it?

Furthermore, this skill can be countered by blind and atability, and the number of charges is clearly written on the mesmers status bar.

PLay a zerker mantra mesmer with 4 mantras fo your utilities. That takes micromanagement to a new level but the burst, oh the burst is glorius

the odd moment when utility with similar effect is way better than elite (see basi venom)

It’s all relative. You know, considering basi venom is attached to Thief with its irreconcilably broken initiative system :/

you are forgetting to mention the immob from chaotic interruption whitch makes the whole thing even more broken

E: i dont mind mesmer damage buffs. the thing that makes me run out of the world is the amont of CCs the specs can build up these days… Reminds me of fighting ranger but in a way scaryer scene…

Mesmer has always been able to daze/stun interrupt into CI imob + burst.

All you’re seeing is what a core few of us that used it before already knew: Interrupt gameplay is the high end kitten kitten mo’fo kittenza, and all those old school straight up shatter cats were playing mes’newb.

Well, Mesmer get the ability to counter all zerk classes now, not just thief.
Hard-counter ranger/ engi with spammable reflect and perma stealth.
Hard-counter Guardian because they basically can never catch you.
Hard-counter Zerk Ele because they need a target for their S/F too.
Hard-counter thief with all the blind/ longer stealth than thief.

I think defending some of the abusive broken traits is more paxxxxxx.

Point is they can one shot you out of stealth any time, while you can’t do the same to them due to numerous invulnerable, evade, in addition to long stealth up-time.

As long as you have 1 dodge, 1 evade, 1 damage mitigation, 1 teleport, 1 stealth, 1 mobility skill, or any number of 1’s, they can’t 1 shot you out of stealth. In fact, when they go into stealth they’ve given you such a big tell you should thank them.

Hey, do you know that list you posted actually resemble Mesmer the most? So basically the best way to counter Mesmer is by another Mesmer lol…

I think most of the bad mesmers pre patch are now being carried by traits post patch.

Prismatic Understanding. I guarantee if this trait gets nerfed or adjusted in someway the FOTM mesmers will disappear. All of these “super good pro mesmers” are running this garbage trait and getting carried by it.

  • Solo warrior shows up at Lord on minimap at 5:04
  • First in game notification at 4:53 ( 11 seconds later )
  • Lord dead at 4:46 ( 7 seconds on )

So at best we’re talking less than 18 seconds to react, arrive, and counter a near dead lord while removing the solo offender, assuming you see the enemy icon appear on the map. This Lord kill resulted in the win.

i have a vid from a couple hours ago, in it Im using Inspiration with Mantra heal and Harmonious Mantras. 2 condi’s removed on heal.

I think the issue its with the second or third mantra heal, depending if you are traited or not. Or at least with using them too fast.

Yeah. I dont think its an ICD. Rather the last or “base” heal is borked.

Blinding Dissipation Help!

Being that I’ve played phantrupt for a long time, and having used focus in the past, I’ve always had to be mindful of clearing blinds for my phant summons. Building appropriately can take you a loooong way in this regard at least while playing a Mesmer. So let’s say I’m facing a mes with blinding dissipation who’s trying to utilize his blinds to mess with my summons, or is just doing so haphazardly while going about his shattering.

With the Inspiration line, mantra heal, and MoD, I have instant cast cleansing, or in the case of MoD the ability to clear the blind by burning an insta cast daze. The same can be done with focus, curtain pull clears blind in moment before iWarden summon. With Inspiration you can also use a shatter, the way you might cover a cast with f4 since shatters cleanse. So for mesmers, building with instant cast cleansing in mind allows you to actually eat the blind (which directly outplayes the enemy) and you can go about doing your thang.

Now I know you like Ranger, and what can I say? I have no idea. Disengage, wait for someone else to engage the mesmer, and hit him in the back while he’s not looking. That’s what I’d do :p

How lon the fix come? may be it’s planned, it s a shame to play my mesmer this way.

Would you like an answer based on past history? Because if so it’ll be fixed in the next round of bug fixes. Only it won’t be fixed, it’ll only say it was. Then a few months later they’ll fix it again only they’ll break something else instead. Then finally six months later they’ll properly fix it; which is to say they’ll alter the tooltip to represent the current functionality

Or maybe we’ll get lucky and they’ll hot fix it. Who knows.

Before the patch I was running 6, 6, 0, 2, Halting Strike, CS, harmonious mantras, MoD, mantra heal. No DE. Post patch Im running Dom, Duel, Inspiration with the exact same setup but with all the goodies added. So this change made ALL the right changes for my build and playstyle (Phantrupt).

Based on what you wrote (OP) I’m wondering if you’re even aware how many traits were made baseline, including many of the mantra traits. There is so much diversity in the builds we can make atm, all with an above average to high degree of success, it’s a wonder how you’ve come to the conclusion you have. The best mesmers at the moment are those who are best at interrupt gameplay, which is why so many mesmers out there right now are so easy to roll. That typical straight up burst shatter approach is still as straight forward and predictable as it was pre-changes, thus how much damage it can currently do is irrelevant. It’s still strong and a fantastic options however, and just one of many. Mes can also be point defender now, and has great support builds (or damage/support splits) to choose from. All this discovered and we’ve only been at this for about two weeks.

I don’t know. I think you’re out there in left field.

Does a Skill Work If you Press it Just Once?

I know what’s being refered to here. I’ve experienced it too at certain points in the past. For whatever reason there’s a failure of the server to recognize the reaction of skill activations on the clients end. You can even capture video of it where you clearly see the “press” on the icon with no follow through.

Other causes can be skill activation while in the air or traveling over uneven terrain

Mesmer is the single most unenjoyable thing to fight in this game regardless of build. Some I have trouble with others I don’t but how the fight goes is irrelevant to the fact that they suck to fight all together.

Mes is my favorite thing to fight.

I think it’s an exploit with Mistrust that allows to trait to do an insane amount to damage. It has to be, why go with Mistrust as a zerker Mesmer over Deceptive Evasion?

I was going to record it, I have Fraps but the Mesmer left so I can’t sadly.

Well there’s nothing anyone can do or say then. It’s unknown as a bug. He quite possibly maxed out some sort of confusion/blind/shatter burst on you?

With 0 condition damage? His power spike did significantly more damage than confusion.

I actually cleansed it and beat him, not before he did 90% of my health in raw invisible damage and applied 25 stacks of confusion.

I’ve fought against plenty of mesmers, all more power focused than his build and yet they didn’t even come close to spiking my health down to 50% (mainly because I avoid most of their shatter spike.)

To make things even stranger, he also used Illusions and brought Compounding Power and Phantasmal Haste. On top of Mistrust? He was no shatter spike yet his damage was beyond broken, applying an instant maxed confusion stack and doing significantly more damage than any shatter spike.

So it’s a condi rupt build.

I made some slight adjustments, keeping the same core concept but increasing potency. I put Blink in your empty util slot, but you’ll probably find yourself in need of Mantra of Resolve to keep yourself condi clear. Of course then you have no stun break. Which would lead to dropping signit of dom.

Can we please stop calling things broken when they aren’t.

Engineer grenade trait is broken (it is not working anywhere near intended), guardian symbol trait symbolic avenger is broken.

What is not broken is PU, Mesmer burst or any of the other stuff that is actually working as blooming intended.

It is strong, very strong, too powerful however it is not broken. Broken is something that is not working properly, strong is something that is working properly but over performing.

Broken is when I can one shot heavy armor w/o the use of shatter even.
Broken is when i can 1v3 thieves with just using one shatter burst.
Broken is when mesmer can stealth more than thief with PU which is thief sort of unique ability.

I dont want to be that strong that ppl would hate me for playing the class.I dont want to be engineer player that ppl hates to fight and would refuse to fight in some cases. This stuff is way strong and need to tuned down and above all it is not fun,too easy is not fun,maybe at start.

So I ran this experimental build during the OMFG 5 Mes team comp last night. While I felt our team came up short without me running my usual phantrupt roaming DPS role, I found the particular features of this build quite powerful. Unfortunately it will never have a true place outside of an organized team using comms, and the 5 mes raid last night was to sloppy for my liking. Never the less, it has potential. Very different gameplay from what I’m used to so I don’t feel like I utilized it to its maximum effectiveness. Our teams rotations were crazy, and I think I made some choices that were less than ideal.

I came across a PU mes the other day running all the stealth skills. The thing is, because he’s dropping into stealth I know that all I have to do is duke in and out of the cap point, decap it, and play hide and seek with him. So while we may not kill eachother, I’ve tied him up in a 1v1 on his point and he looses the match for his team because he’s not earning anything.

That’s the real trouble with PU burst from stealth. The predictability of it. Not even the predictability of the incoming burst, but the predictability of the gameplay surrounding the fight over conquest. If you’re successful with it, it’s only because your opponent doesnt know how to play the game, sorry to say.

The point you make is valid only if you are doing the capping. When facing a PU build, the roles will usually be reversed. You will be the one trying to hold the point and stop it from getting decapped. You know how fast that can happen, and you can’t afford to leave your circle.

The PU is not meant to hold points. It is meant to decap/kill. One or the other will happen.

Sure, but if im playing home point defender I’m going to be running a build that’ll counter such nonsense until help arrives. Might be a problem in a pug game with no TS, but with a propper comp and comms, yeah…

Pugs are the majority of games on GW2. If it’s not balanced in solo q, it’s not balanced at all. Team speak is a far distant cry from what most of us do.

Meh, a bit of pre match text planning can make a pug team work wonders. Just takes one person to start the conversation. And more often than not there’s at least one other person on your team with a clue about how to pvp.

This leads me to conclude that you haven’t really soloed and tried talking to your teammates. If there is one rule to follow, it’s this – you cannot rely on anyone else. You have to be self sufficient and treat what other people do as an act of god. You cannot influence it in any way.

It’s the only way to keep your sanity.

You’re welcome to your conclusions I guess. Far fetched as they are (see bolded text). Funnily enough I record all my matches and post a lot of them, and the text box shows plenty of pre-match planning which is all you need, even if its just one guy saying he’s going to take home. Of course I don’t expect high uptake on mid match communication, or that my team mates are even competent. I can, however, keep my expectations realistic. Good luck with your outlook though.

It’s to my benefit that people know my build. That way they can challenge and critique it, and bring counters to it to take advantage of any obvious weaknesses. When people share knowledge in this way we all benefit and become more cunning.

Good luck with your build ownership though. Perhaps take a trip to your local patent office to make it legit?

am a PU mesmer i like to think of my self like batman i come out of no where bursting the kitten out of you and let police do the capping am the one who burst thy ele thy engi thy thief thy ranger and i kitt thy warrior and thy guard am invisible hand ( literally)
