To Devs: The Useable Longbow Skills & More

Current Skills of Ranger Longbow:

  • [#1] Long Range Shot ¾ Shoot your foe from long range. The farther the arrow flies, the more damage it does.
  • [#2] Rapid Fire 4½ 10sec Fire multiple arrows at your foe.
  • [#3] Hunter’s Shot 12sec Fire an arrow that grants you stealth when it hits an enemy. Your pet gains swiftness.
  • [#4] Point Blank Shot ½ 15sec Push back your foe with a point-blank shot. The closer they are, the farther it pushes them back.
  • [#5] Barrage 2¾ 30sec Barrage the target area with a hail of arrows that cripple.

We had a nice update, but it has an epic fail anyway.
Hunter’s Shot gives stealth that pet’s attack brakes. Rofl?
Please read the whole post, and ask for more accurate description/opinion if you don’t understand something.

The way I would ballance

  • [#1] Long Range Shot ¾ Shoot your foe from long range. The farther the arrow flies, the more damage it does @ base of 1500 Range. Next shot starts when arrow hits the target within its activation time! Bit improved base damage values.
  • [#2] Rapid Fire 4½ 10sec Fire multiple arrows at your foe @ 1200 Range. Minor Bleeding or something instead of Vulnerability.
  • [#3] Hunter’s Shot 12sec Applies 10 stacks of Vulnerability. Fire a shot that strikes for more damage the less health your target has @ 1200 Range
  • [#4] Point Blank Shot ½ 15sec Push back your foe with a point-blank shot. The closer they are, the farther it pushes them back. Grants you 5sec stealth when it hits.
    (Pet’s damage don’t breaking it any longer) 900 Range
  • [#5] Barrage 2¾ 30sec Barrage the target area with a hail of arrows that cripple.

Now I’ll explain why…
You may say its OP. No, its not, whatever you say. Long range isn’t a guarantee.
Most of the classes can appear in your face within seconds, just as Risens does.
I’m a bow user myself (IRL!), and the hit distances of a so-called bow specialist are far less than anyone who can shoot a bow properly – and it’s a fantasy game!
(Not to mention the 1 year old unreasonable “Out of Range” & “Obstructed” & “Miss” bugs we still getting)
So a base of 1500 dmg would be essential at Long Range Shot. On Rapid Fire, the current range is good and has logical reasons. A minor bleeding would be nice tho.

Now the Hunter’s Shot…
I wish it to be two sided skill that has reason to use in skirmishing. It should work at Harpoon Gun’s Mercy Shot with the old Vulnerability setting. Why? When you’re skirmishing, you can decide to shoot this skill as start, damaging the foe with vulnerability on & smaller amount of dmg.
Or you can shoot it as an execute skill near the end. It will dmg more, and if the target isn’t dead yet, you can continue damaging it more effectively with the vulnerability on.

And the Point Blank Shot…
This push-back skill is nice to mantain distance, but it also should be a two-sided skill as Hunter’s Shot. You pushed your foe back, and having 5 seconds of Stealth.
Its up to you to run away safety or strike one more time in hope of victory.
Sounds perfect, right?

New skills will be a nice update, but I prefer re-designs of current ones for multiple uses. We played a lot MMOs & RPGs, and most of them had simple effects on the skills, but I can’t mention any game that had “opportunity trees” when attacking.
GW2, as a Revolutionary MMO – should brake the ice.

Additional Update goals for the future:

  • Bow running/holding re-animations
  • Dodge re-animations
  • GS Swoop: Damaging foes with the blade on the way.
  • Axe auto-attack should be like sword’s.
  • Axe should have multiple-hit bouncing attack skill instead of skill #2.
  • Fixing “Missed” and other kind of bugs.
  • More hack’n’slash like animations.
  • Pet AI rework & Reanimation for the illusion
  • Pet skills redesign to be reasonable and logical

Why everyone wants dmg?

What the games are about in 90%? Killing.
→ How can you be more effective at it?
Having more DMG.
It also speeds up the progression greatly.
Who wants to play the boring bossfights anymore, if we lack the DMG and doing the same boring/unfair fights mutch longer?

DMG effects nearly everything.
Yes, I’m a berzerker. That is my style since I’m playing games.
We love it. We Want It. End of Story.

I miss the Vulnerability on Hunter’s Shot.
Now we have even less damage, sicne we can’t start on 10 stack of Vulnerability on the foes.

My suggestion:

  • [#3] Hunter’s Shot 12sec Applies 10 stacks of Vulnerability. Fire a shot that strikes for more damage the less health your target has @ 1200 Range
  • [#4] Point Blank Shot ½ 15sec Push back your foe with a point-blank shot. The closer they are, the farther it pushes them back. Grants you 5sec stealth when it hits.
    (Pet’s damage don’t breaking it any longer) 900 Range
    Why? It’s not OP, we can decide to attack the target within 5 seconds, or stay back hidden.

LoL. Whisperers Hood has lame shape and its ugly masked on male, meanwhile the basic starter hood has bad scaled model (I have a post on March Armor Bugs list about it), meanwhile it looks cool on a sylvary… Heh, kitten this.

Jeeez, OP Trolling?
Personally, I don’t like JPs, because the game engine never knows physics right, and I’m always falling through flat surfaces, or even better, stucking in ground sometimes (S. Sprint).

But thats not a reason to leave JPs behind.
Ask Devs nicely to make them a little more easyer (or multiple difficulty ways), or even better, re-configurate the clipping settings to prevent such frustrating moments like we have most of the time.

There is a lot of cheater (that you people call “hacker”, even if they’re just kitten).
You should see how a Russian WWW battle goes on. They just jump over the walls, or even better, walking through it… Yean and they cannot be interrupted/knocked, but you don’t even have to, since they have all the buffs prermanent (recounting).

By the time, ArenaNet will take care of them. Until that, you can report them as “botters”. I have no clue why there is no “possible hacker” kind of report option in the list.

Unique Boss Drops are basic element of any RPG game. It was in GW1, and we would like to have it in any MMO. As long as RNG don’t ruins it.

If the dungeon paths were long, people wouldn’t be able to speedrun it in the way they do. After that, we should get one of selected armor/weapon piece in each run, or collecting them (~10) for Elite versions.
So it needs a token reorder…

Anyway, these dungeons should give us very unique skins as possible loots, and there is a need for respecting people with these items, when we can’t just say “Well grinded mate…”

I’m more interested about bossfights tho>
The current combat system is 20th century.

Signet suggestions

Basicly, Signets should always buff up the ranger when activated.
Effects on pets (that we can enoy whith the trait) should be additional.

Anyway, they need some nice effect too.
For example, the Signet of Hunt may give us beast-like footprints, or Signet of Wild gives us a little dirt trait as an illusion of charge.
The spirits needs unique models…etc…

Hey fellow Rangers & Devs again!
The forum burns after the new AN Post.

After all the lot suggestions and wishes we made, I’ll still continue the work.
Now I’ll add some details of what I wish to see at Rangers in the future.

As improving skirmishing abilities (weapon damages, animations, etc), I think even the “hunter” side of us needs some attention. A kind of Stealth would be nice, but not for escaping, but approching with the element of surprise.
The goal of new skills and traits, witch I hope it will work with my reasonable design, aims to multiple our possible builds that supports our playstyle.
Even if our stats are kind of pathetic in the current state, Rangers are playable and enjoyable in that some restricted way – if the user plays well enough.
As Rangers, we wish to have closer connections with our pets. They need to be true friends instead of tools. Maybe some kind of cross-transformation Elite Skill would be nice.
(You can become Were-Pet ^^)
On the side of Armors, we lack the goods. Very small in quantity, askable quality.
I don’t know where the Ascended items leading in crafting, but I would work on the customization options a lot.

I wish ArenaNet to learn from other games like AION, TERA, Vindictus, Skyrim, etc.
If GW2 is a real revolutionary game, it needs to pay a lot of attention on the style, because as you know, the illusion of being awesome is the very base of every class.

Hi Dear Devs!

Since I’ve crafted Azureflame long ago, I always log in after patches with a hope its location fixed on the back. Even through lot of player mentioned this bug, its not yet fixed since the game release.

I’ll continue waiting, but found out a suggestion for the time its fixed!
After Zenith weapons, witch ones are “foldable”/“transforming”, for the Azureflame, witch is the most expensive Exotic bow on the market, I suggest a little bonus feature.

Nothing serious, just a “folded” animation while on the back.
I think a little “gift” for us after all would be a nice move.

I’ve made a nice PVP loadout by salvaging & reforging the chest rewards. Do the same!

Sure. They don’t need to do anything for us, just sit and watch people leaving the game due its bugs, errors, rng, frustrating ragequit moments and small rewards.
As I’ve wrote before, these features are must-have. We’re happy for it.
Suggesting these to be better for every1, with given advices, isn’t a thing you should be mad at. I bet you would be mutch more happy if you have more chance to find your taste.

I know the title says “Disappointed”, but its true. No lies, no misleading. Even if its just a suggestion and inspiration towards the dev. team.

I will argue on other kind of copypaste comments.

Well, it would be great if we can edit a personal soundtrack (with added .MP3s) as where and witch one we allow to play. So far, my personal ost addon works nicely.
I’ve noticed that many soundtrack used to play in the same places, but not anywhere else. (It separates Divinity’s Reach and Lion’s Arch soundtracks for me).

Even if the edit solution is only an alphabetic order.
Like DR’s ost will be city/1.mp3 2.mp3 3.mp3 … 5.mp3
LA’s ost will be city/6.mp3 7.mp3…. etc

We’re not forced to do anything. The only problem I’ve mentioned is the Zenith skins we don’t all like – so thats a design flaw. All the other reward is cool and nice, thank you for those. PVP items you don’t need: Salvage to get PVP materials, then craft your own.

Don’t get too far –
I’m only asking for more skins to chose from, nothing else.

Yet the game missing a lot of very essential features, they’re “working on it”.
The sad part is, I don’t really see such revolutionary designs in this game yet.
I’m sure the AN Designers have a lot of very good invention, but why we didn’t had a taste of them yet?

A post on Variance blog about a reddit post gave me an idea.
Why the sanctum isn’t placed close to LA, and it should replace the holo-dragon as a visual feature? Why are we using sea ships, and not balloons from the empty place close to the jail?

As I always mention: A little more immaginary can make the real wonders.

They’re not going to make 20 sets of skins, hoping you’ll like one of them. What you’re asking simply isn’t reasonable.

How can other companies make hundreds of skins if ArenaNet can’t?
They can if they want to. And the cry for more skins & customization is groving strong…

I’m only asking for more options to chose from, and it requires a new solution of AP rewarding.


Not to mention the common problems with the designs – if everything has some detail we don’t like – example: Big butts, unreasonable giant metal pieces, etc – then a lot of skin goes to the style sink.
Another problem is the unreasonable different shapes & pieces of same skins. ex: Hoods.

Anyway, I’m happy with the Azureflame skin, even if it would be mutch cooler if were black and black flaming – or gold, or midnight rose — so I’m waiting for the customizations. But more important: I’m waiting for the sheating animation fix nearly for a year.

I even like the armor set I made, even if I want it to have more reinforced look as I’ve posted in the Ranger forums. We’ll see how far they let us go…

So there is a way how can they make really good for skins everyone – we just have to guess what? to Wait. This is exactly why we need a better crafting/post-craft custom crafting system.
For example: Azureflame+Abyss Dye+Paint Blueprint+10 MF Stone = Ascended Black textured Azureflame

Listen people. I’m not arguing about the fact we get something now, and I know it is a really nice thing at least.

My problem is, I want to get something, but something I would even like. Now this is something you people can’t argue with.

This is why I’ve suggested to have different sets unlocked as whole at each milestone of AP. This way, everyone would have something he/she wants, and wouldn’t be a problem if you don’t like the current unlock – you’ll get another style at next!
So it keeps people motivated to go further and further with APs.
Right now, you can pick up some Zenith by time, and thats all. it would go very long if someone wants to collect all of them, and I’m sure arenanet don’t want limits on these sets

I hope you guys now get my logic and mean.

  • It only tries to make an illusion of more content, since the separation would make them tiny.
  • The separation was ok btw.
  • The ordering of displayed watched progression is a complete mess now. It should be long for multiple tracking (15 instead of 5), and should have order options for A→Z, %, + by team

I don’t think so. Guild Wars 2 isn’t a gift. Its a product.
And because of it, ArenaNet has to make sure we’re using it, and willing to afford more $ in the future. Basicly, AP rewards are pure marketing catch: in try to prevent people leaving the game because of no long contents to play.

What above I wrote is a kind of suggestion. I can never understand why to do things half as good as possible…

There should be a huge wave, a continously content riding.
It means they need to reward us as many way as possible –
because we want unique characters badly, and variety is the key.

If you don’t want to unlock something, you don’t need to open the chest.

I do want my reward, but not what I cant count as a reward – since I don’t need them.
Like having the same tie as present in every christmas…

Too Much Temporary Content Can Only Harm GW2

The biggest reason for permanent contents:
Casual gamers wouldn’t be forced to play in even’ts peroid, if they have time to explore it in their own speed.

“Do it now or never” is a hardcore style. I don’t get it…

Dear Dev,

As far as I see, there is only 1 weapon set, witch has none skin I’m really willing to use, but there is 3 I would say “ok for me”. (Apart from I’ve selected the harpoon gun and it gave me a shortbow; ticket sent.)
Then, 2×3 armor piece. Personaly, I only like the hellfire gauntlets.
After this, what happens? We’ll unlock the not-wanted skins until 50k AP?

I really hope it will have mutch better skins as rewards, because from the current state, me, and many other I’ve asked are forced to unlock skins we don’t even want…

What I mean is, why was it hard not to make whole packs that we can unlock and use?
All Zenith weapon at 2k AP, all 100W lightbulb armor piece at 3K, all Hellfire piece at 4K, then new ones…

Steam pets… Well, mechanical pets would be nice move..
Maybe engineers should spawn them, however…

There is a HUGE list of possible pets.
Personally, I would skirmish with a big male lion & a minotaur.
But I’m forced to use charrs as pets right now xD

Current Zephyr state would be good if a critical hit can make only quickness re-enable by a chance of ~10%. Anyway, speeds are better right now, but longbow’s damage is still low. Would work better if it has base of 1500 range, and restricted damage on closer targets also means faster ROF (Rate of Fire).

I’m an Archer myself IRL, learning from a champion every week.
Now that I know how bows really work, I know how far can we go ahead of reality – as mere fantasy elements that would fit GW2 lore. Video WIP… ETA: Thuesday.

It’s not impossible, just a lot of complications.

For instance, taking your personal story example – I don’t see how an Asura would ever have it’s own warband, much less be part of the Iron Legion.

Don’t mind, no1 else will notice these “lore springs”.
I think I’m charmy enough to be accepted to some of the Charr Legions
It is a fantasy, and I would say, it is very likely possible to don’t care about a 0,001% non-charr member of a legion, or else.
The factions we can join are not-so-meaningful, and those are mixed too.

I still highly standing at the idea of upgrading existing professions instead of making new ones. I don’t like the idea that I’m restricted of things because I’m a Ranger, for example. These are very old and outdated laws of the fantasy. A “Revolutionary” MMO like GW2 shouldn’t force this.

Report Option for Player Griefing

Yesterday, when I was about to manage UW survive of total wipe on EB, some troll show’d up and tried to demolarise the whole squad.
There was a funny moment when they even tried to slice our zerg with their commander emblems… sad, but these players existing. Reported them for “Verbal Abuse”, because they tried to ruin the fun of everyone else…

I even encounter with the same team right here, when they try to ruin my suggestions, and downwoting/reporting my youtube videos…
The happy part is, moderators here are nice, smart and helpful. Thank you again!

Longbow needs more AOE skills

Solution: Get piercing arrows trait, get the enemies on line with simple & smart movement, then fire your skills up to 10 enemy in line.
This is the only way you can achieve ~40k separated dmg as a ranger with a single skill.

Current trait order is a complete mess (will explain in next video), and half of them are just simple bad. There are some really good tho – the only useable ones.

1: No need for new professions yet.
2: Fix & Upgrade the existing ones first.

And if you want a race change but people saying its impossible:
It is very possible. Why should it bother our story line at all?
Would be new unique experience. And then? Nothing wrong with it.
