Actually, I’ve been thinkijg about some mix of Magictech and Dredge with either Dredge mask or Gasmask
Well, something like Free For All pvp zone… With no groups…
Warriors hammering each other…
Ranger
Mesmer
Thief
Warrior
Zhaitan
And who gives a flying kitten about this?
You’ve basiclly described Fractals. And somehow idea of Nightmare Tower. Tower was supposed to be place where players face new hard mobs together. Instead, everyone speedruns to the top ;p
End of discussion. Thank you all for participating.
It’s considered as a Bear…. New generation of Bearbow?
I bet he’ll be eventually put into some LS stuff and later described as “he was there because we thought he’d fit the theme”. Or Scarlet will make a new Alliance. Like Shadow Skritt Alliance
However, they’re very vunerable to Flamethrower and make a fine campfire instead, which boosts Charr morale by letting them cook, Global Warming and warm many Norn houses in these cold Shiverpeaks.

Hey there!
I’ve been recently thinking about leveling an engineer. I have a choice between Charr or Human male.
Is there any chance of achieving closest look to:
-Fallout
-Metro 2033 (Tradituonal or one like from “Heaven’s Roots”)
-STALKER
I already do have gas mask ready to use, SE tokens, all this stuff, but I wonder what would be the closest possible to one of these. On Human or Charr. No other races please, especially asuras

Rifle #1 is still better than Ranger’s LB #1tho
From WvWvW roaming perspective :
They work the best when used together.
Longbow isn’t bad as a self-support secondary weapon in PvE imho. At the current state it isn’t efficient alone neither in PvP or PvE but has some cool tools. When many may complain about KD on PBS, you can use that to drop Defiant stacks from the boss to help others in further interrupting, AoE Barrage in PvE dungeon befire swapping to your sword may increase overall dps a bit and offers some AoE damage, Hunter’s Shot helps when it comes to aggro, disengaging and RP may help you manage any damage before swapping to sword or waiting for swap to come up from cooldown.
However, as I said, it’s now just secondary utility weapon for PvE and has no worth besides that.
I have never seen thief able to stealth after I use Sick Em on him. It works instantly, it bypasses blind, reflection, aegis, evade, dodge, line of sight even. You don’t have to face the thief neither has he.
Reveal from Sick Em is not bugged imo, at least I have never seen it not working and I put this shout since past update quite often when I can prepare for thief. The shout itself is, because it cancels it’s effect on any command like all other shouts, but that’s shout issue overall.
Bring a Ranger with you. One Sick Em and 90% of thieves are dead with timed bane on stealth. After reveal, it should be easy for you.
I like Honed Axes. Adding like 1 stack of might (10 sec) on crit with 5 sec icd to up to 5 allies around instead would be better than for the party only. What if you’re not in party? Or your party player is out of buff range ?
+25% speed in QD is a good point, but for all ranged MH weapons and 10% for OH maybe.
I’m not really fan of other changes, but they’re not horrible. Listed above are imho good.
All I want is Nicolas Cage pet. Exotic enough?

Just be sure to not run Brown Bear or you will be kicked in no time. You can pick Murellow instead! It’s still a Bear. Just shaved a lil’bit! But shhhh… They shouldn’t know. If they ask, it’s Kodan’s child
Signet of Stone effect would have to be adjusted then somehow. 6 seconds would be well…not bad to have, but I doubt.
If they plan to do anything like that, fix “Protect Me!” first. At least stability for both you an pet, maybe protection for one of you to lower amount of damage taken would make it a good alterative for SoS. Other way, be prepared than literally noone would take shout over signet. Especially when you can easily cut cd on SoS ti about 60 seconds with adept trait.
Skritt, E.T Co. vs. Fall of the God. kitten you, people, kitten you
I’ve been always thinking of something like:
Chasing The Prey
Upon activation, your pet tracks enemies in stealth in 600 radius around it for 6 seconds
Combined with SoB, you’d be, same like your pet, able to see and target all stealthed enemies within range. They could also leave some kind of footsteps, allowing us, ya know, to “track” them. Ranger/Hunter thingy.
As others said, equip a Longbow. It’s one of the best current counterplays to stabby thieves because as you start channeling Rapid Fire, it follows thief with fire even if he’ stealthed. Another good hint for longbow : If you can, try to call target for yourself(tag any critter/low hp/not dangerous mob) on some potential target for your Hunter’s Shot. Once thief goes stealth and you can feel he’s about to open, quickly swap target to previosly marked mob and stealth yourself. If executed right, thief may pop out of stealth seeing no target and you have the upper hand.
Also, IMHO signets are crap all together for power builds, you may find “Protect Me!” as helpful and efficient as Stone traited signet on 1v1, it doesn’t need trait investment and has lesser cooldown. Bring Muddy Terrain. Quite helpful vs. Thieves if you have any ranged weapon.
im a still stuck on the OP roaming and winning regularly as a double bow power spec.
im having a hard time absorbing that as something truthful.
Misspoland, Desolation [EU]. Feel free if you’re in my WvWvW matchup
Most of the thieves tend to drop before they can say “why my stealth didn’t save me”. Tho if the thief is good he shouldn’t be in your range anyways but people are stupid…
And yeah another Ranger sadly, most players still play bearbow with protect me (seriously WHY). You can just sword 111111 them to death because they arent getting anywhere
In fact, “Protect Me!” when it’s not anywhere good skill as traited SoS or Endure Pain isn’t a bad option if used correctly. It is 6 second shield for yourself on 60 second cooldown which is acceptable + stunbreaker. While I wouldn’t suggest running it vs. more than 2 players focusing you really, for 2 or 1 it’s pretty good. If you don’t run some crappy pet for pvp/roaming like cat or bird it will be able to take couple hits and whenever you feel their role is done, simply command them to attack the target again, it will break shout. Sure it isn’t an immunity but I run that and it has saved my kitten hundreds of times. Using it to sink thief opener burst, allowing you to stomp without damage, eating burst with little “oh kitten” button, still don’t feel like I need to trait for it. It could use some love, but I find it okay for myself roaming and keep it at bar mkst of the times.
Axe MH can be considered as melee weapon too, I suppose…
I’ve recently checked other similar threads created by @OP fodem and the results didn’t surprise me.
Rangers are listed in all threads by 90% of the players in top 3 easiest to kill and on Mesmer and Thief forums we dominate infamous rank 1 in it.
It generally speaks bad for players behind Rangers and the class itself and it should be taken as a objective proof for Devs. Not all bad players play Rangers. Terrible player playing Ranger in PvP encounter is just very terrible ranger when the same player running guardian, warrior or a mesmer can be considered as decent.
Thanks for the thread fodem!
I hope you’ll make like a summary maybe at the end of the week and post it on General Discussion forum with links. If you want, I can help you with statistics, pm. If we have a proof, why not make some use of it?
It may come to player response and preparation. When I’m aware of opener I tend to stealth myself on some random thing via Hunter’s Shot, pre-using Protect Me toeat burst with pet or probably my favourite one, swapping to shortbow, waiting for opener, disengaging with Quick Shot followed by some immobilize. I generally see most other power rangers as bearbows and that may be the reason. Ones posting on Ranger forums may be conditank users, that’s probably they don’t find thieves that big issue
I wonder why so many Thieves count Rangers as easiest targets in here when in a mirror thread on Rangers forums most of Rangers list Thieves as one of the easiest to kill, on WvWvW.
Interesting fact, I mostly win with Thieves when roaming in power build. Keeping range and predicting burst may be key in here + timing PBS+ Rapid Fire overkill
I hope it won’t really affect Spiders+Muddy Terrain. Keeping someone at bay for 12 seconds is always helpful
Mostly from Roaming perspective:
The Great:
-Spiders – most reactive F2, nice damage, good health, ranged attack, poison, good F2 choices, awesome web, best pvp pet
-Wolf – KD, good stats, cripple, godlike F2 Fear for 3 seconds. Best pvp pet for small groups
-Drakehound – when F2 is laggy, offers everything what wolf does and short cd AoE 3 second immobilize which is quite helpful
- Drakes – not really a huge fan of running them, but I see their strenghts
- Sharks – coz they’re sharks and eat people alive underwater 1v1
Good:
- Porcines – very strong pets when used right or in a group. Good defensive stats. Amazing F2, but takes time to use. Nice KD charge
- Bears – strong tanks for zergy encounters, can take some hits, best used on passive as damage sponges via Protect Me and condi cleanses
- Cats – can deal some damage but they have terrible athing and no utility outside of dealing damage
- Moas – good source of long-lasting fury, used just to quickly buff boon up before fight when prepairing and then change them to something more useful.
The Kitten :
- Birds – they never hit, they’re squishy and they grant swiftness, useless boon for me. Dead slot
- Devouers – no worth utility, they only shine underwater
- Other, not listed pets
I rank pets based on my experiences. Notice that rank depends very much on pet’s utility. I’m not any fun of dealing damage with pets, where I can use DPS ones for PvE, I can’t vs. other, mobile players who port a lot. I want a pet synergy, to help me or my allies executing my tactic . F2 with damage attached to it or unworthy bad, short condition is terrible choice for me.
I do play with LB/SB as strictly power build (some soldiers mixed with mostly zerkers just to achieve 19k hp and 2600 armor cap) and I find SB working imho better for power than condition builds. Average damage from AA, proccing every 0.5 sec, not counting occassional bleeds is slighty over 1k and SB shots are instant, making it very easy to kite and deal damage with weapon and rarely if not never breaking your skills which is great. Also, awesome design of Quick Shot with retreating aspect which should be shared for all key non-channel shots in our bows.
Your first point kinda made me think about basic idea of communism and Central-controlled economy. You know what? It failed
Shortbow will always be better than Longbiw in a current state when we speak about <1000 range. Keep in mind AA on LB is slow as well as projectile, when SB offers DPS with comparable or even greater damage than LB while shooting more often, having bleeds and arrows flying slightly faster. When it comes to any form of PvP, Shortbow is better because attack are performed instantly, when LB AA needs over 0.5 second to charge up, making it very easy to break the shoot when target is very close, in result slowing you down and murdering dps.
If you mean 1v1 on WvWvW, here’s my list:
1.Full Zerky LB/GS ranger – most of them are terribad, use inefficient Healing Spring instead of TU, so I have big advantage in healing in here. They tend to start with popping all cooldowns and trying to rapid fire. Simply dodge it or get close, swap to shortbow, break their channel by running around him. At this point, you’ve probaby forced GS, another laughable 1v1 weapon. Quickly disengage, immobilize them and go at range, swapping back to LB . From that point, 99% is surely dead. You don’t even have to use a heal.
2. Engineer – when their class is very good in most cases, they relativly suck vs. Kiting. A lot of them spec around bombs which are terrible against my spec and you can keep them outranged for whole time unless they’re dead or LoS, pretty much. Rifle power ones are even weaker, they often die in some random rapid fire
3. Guardians – when these guys can cause a lot of trouble when in group, most of them won’t really harm you outside of retaliation if you are anywhere decent with kiting. When 1v1 may take some time, I’m almost on 100% winning streak with them.
4. Condition Rangers – can harm if you get surprisedand you’re at range. If notand you keep them at bay, they won’t kill you
5. Thieves – It depends. In my build I rarely lose to thief 1v1 and if I do, it’s mostly because of their very defenssive play. If they go agressive and try to take another easy kill, they die too easy. If they disengage very often and hop back into stealth after initial 2-3 hits, I’m often forced to leave or die. But 5% of them does that
6. Elementalists – If played right can cause a lot of trouble. Good players are quite a challange. Bad and staff ones die from auto-attack
7. Mesmers – non-zerky ones who are skilled are a tough fight. Especially condition ones. Saving my “Protect Me!” is key sometimes as well as keeping range and disengaging whenever they stealth.
8. Necromancers – If good one, specced heavily for condibomb, surprises me, I’m dead most of the times. Power ones can be problematic, but can be outlasted with Stealth/Dodges/CC. Condition ones are, well… If you can keep Necromancer at 900+ they won’t harm you really. Killer here is their signet for condibombing, Signet of Spite, putting 14 sec(if not longer!) weakness on you as well as tons of other conditions. If you get caught, it will be very hard to win. Whenever they get too close, disengage. Primary target.
9. Warriors… When they’re not that problem wielding their weapons and H. Signet alone, they become deadliest and unkillable when equipped with -98% cripple/immobilize/chill duration and min-maxed gear. Good ones are hardest matchup 1v1 on WvWvW. Condition ones are even worse because of tons of immobilize. Bad ones are free kill. But for summary, even half-decent one will be tougher than any half-decent of any other class.
Little hint: I’ve found out that’s it way easier to manage important cooldowns of these pets by simply running with them on passive. I never turn aggressive mode on unless I do PvE. By keeping your pet always at bay and at your command, you can manage Web (one of the first attack, possibly 1-2 sec after Poison split or right after start, you can very often force Web at start by immobilizing in the beginning with Paralyzing Venom, spider usually follows it by Web). It applies to Drakehound too, even easier (KD right after attack command, 1-2 sec and followed by crippling attack).
Generally I’ve found out that pets are more responsive and “intelligent” when kept on passive and moving only on order.
Longbow rangers are op against engineer and necro shouldn’t ever lose against engineer.
I lol’d. Explain, how do you manage to contest a node, prick around with zerg weapon and kill an engineer? Sure, If you give me WvW map and my ranger vs. pretty much any engineer I’ll kill him because of my huge range/kiting advantage. But in tPvP you can’t manage your range and any engineer, bah, any half-decent player will kill you unless you play flawlessly and they’re not any bunker
^Defensive ranged ranger… It won’t really work. You can have some sustain with Sword/Dagger+Longbow but you won’t kill anything. Stick to balanced power builds, all I can advice. Soldier’s Armor, Berserker Weapons, Berserker/maybe one or two Valkyrie accessory.
After that, based on their profession you give them a choice of what they want to do. So if youre a thief, they say thieves are best at roaming. If youre a guardian they say guardians can be bunkers or roamers, which of these most appeals to you?
It could be interesting if you were a ranger or elementalist. Like “Rangers can be…well…here, that pet buddy may help you sometimes if heavens are in a good mood, with elementalist you can have a lot of skills…..Have you considered rolling a Warrior?”
The thing that he is 77 now, states that he has fairly lower damage than zerker specced 80. I believe that you don’t have huge chances to down any of these two classes unless they’re built pure glassy. Whih, for Warriors and Guardians isn’t any common on WvWvW now. Even with ascended stuff and zerker gear it’s hard to drop down average Warrior with healing signet compared to other classes, not to mention guardian. If I were you, I’d just switch over to shortbow vs. these classes. They have plenty of nice gap closers which significantly reduces usefulness of LB alone, but Shortbow, even in Power specs does constant, easy damage on pair with good kiting possibility. It’s easier to kill Guardian or Warrior with SB than LB. Nuff said
I recently have had a huge rotfl. Roamimg solo, as most of the times on WvW Gunnar’s BL I’ve met a dps tryhard guardian. As usual, owned his spec with my double power bow and proceed fulrther. However, as he was asking for more 1v1( total of , 3, all won) he started to comment about my build. I heard that running power build with bows is op and such things, but there was one thing that made me laugh hard. To clarify – this guy had some legendary, over 10k achi, full best slot items etc, champ paragon, so he wasn’t a big noob. So as I’ve responded that I run my build and immo spider/drakehound. To my big surprise I’ve heard that I “run terrible pets for power build”, I “should change them” and “it’s obvoius”. So my big question? Which pets are “the meta” “obvious” pets for Balanced double bow power Ranger? Because I have no idea. Birds? Kitten what ? ;p
Simpliest of simplicities, easier of the easiest, best of the est changes suggested so far was:
Pets get 10% and 10% effects of all Area of Effect damage, effects, conditions spammed when Not applied directly to pet.
Just make it so untargeted Pet, at least outside of tPvP, gets only small percentage of direct damage/condition damage (outside of control effects such as Cripple/Immobilize/Chill/Fear/CCs). This way pets wouldn’t be able to tank bosses, just to survive unless they get targeted. If pet would be primary selected target, he should get full effect.
Simple. Btw. Cleaves and pierces may count as AoE effects or not, but I’d suggest them to do so.
Still over 700 representation tokens on my Charr. Long live Abbadon!
I believe that things like giant coming out in swamp fractal, statues etc. were just made to make more impact on viewer, like to say “Wow, dat Fractals maybe kool”. They’re just there to amaze people and keep show entertaining, not to present actual content. You know, that’s like the main idea of video – group up in 5 and experience various PvE scenarios.
If we’re about to see some improvements, I believe they’d be bug fixes, some scaling adjustments, maybe tougher encounters on high-level fractals rather than plain number scaling. One thing, definitly. They want to introduce more people to Fractals, make them easier for beginners, show them to new players, possibly lure players back with updates.
Best character, certainly the most friendly and funny in whole personal story, possibly in GW2 if it comes to not-GW1 bounded characters. Only one I truly missed of all Personal Story. I wish he’d replace Traeherne.
After initial retreats in 2012, I can’t see that many people quitting the game. In fact, most of these people who had gone were players seeking for:
1)e-sports
2)hardcore PvE
3)something that would “beat the WoW”
4)they got through to 80, got CoF gear and decided they’ve beaten the game
So now, I think we’re getting even more new players in the game and certainly the community isn’t moaning about lack of content, at least way less than in before. Overall, good
Nope. It’s better imho
I’ve said this many times and I’ll do it again. Please, please make actual skill effect more important than animation tied to it for pets. That one thing would simply fix all pets pathing and dealing damage to moving targets. Long pet ttack animations hurt gameplay and it’s much more important than attack animations. Like now, pet stops after launching his AA for a split second to finish animation thus he’s often just OT MOVING AND HITTING AT ALL. Sorry for caps, but I felt like it should be highlighted. Priorize pet actions over finishing animations, don’t stop the pet after attack, make him even slide on the ground towards enemy, I don’t realpy care, but these pet lags are ridiculous and you’d either have to make all pet attacks small leaps, castable on move(best solution), make pets like 50% faster.
Bad idea imho. Hurts sustain when waiting for weapon swap. Adds something to PvE, but… I’d be glad to see adding an Evade to Hilt Bash #5. It already has likely-evade animation and this skill certainly lacks in everything. Adding small factor such as evade would greatly improve skill’s usefulness in both PvE and PvP. Adding evade to already disengage ability like Swoop is imho wasting 2 defenses in one skill. One defense ability per skill is enough.
Condi/bunker ranger has been always kind of viable. Nothing that impressing, although I liked the into. Good work on this
Haven’t found it to be any challange. Kill the adds, lure boss out of AoE zone, kill. He does barely any damage, is vunerable to CC. Bread and butter, done him solo/group with Power ranger/power necro in no time and no effort. waiting for something requiring tbrain
Buy and use Traveler/Speed runes. It frees up one utility and one trait so it’s extremaly important. You can go for Valkyrie/Soldier Stat armor and full zerker weapons/accessories etc.
1. Always keep your Life Force bar as full as possible. It’s the cire of your build. Even if you’re in danger to lose some HP, it’s better than exhausting your LF. Always keep it in mind.
2. Use traits supporting your LF gain and mobility/survival. Standard 30/10/0/0/30 contains Might on blast, axe training, Close to Death, Weakning Shroud, reduced cd on spectrals, vun and piecring for L. Blast and +50% crit chance in shroud. I succesfuly use this set of utilities ;
1. Consume Conditions – nothing to add, best pvp heal
2. Spectral Armor – huge Surv boost, not only protection and stunbreaker, but also very good LF generation, allowing you to sustain pressure in Death Shroud
3. Spectral Walk – another amazing double stun breaker and shadow return teleport which has pleora of good uses. +LF generation. Worth to have
4. Flesh Wurm – When many may say “Eh, Natch, it doesn’t work!” I find it simply amazing. Not only another stunbreaker, but also LF generation and zone teleport. Saved my kitten many times. Use it both in defense and offense (quick tp, hop on DS, most on WvWvW never seen single Wurm teleport). Takes time to get use to placing it, but you won’t regret.
5. Flesh Golem – Knockback, more dps, cripple. What more? As for zerging, switch to Plague as always. You don’t need Lich to do powerful #1 spam anymore
It works in roaming. Most of people never seen necromancer running something else than condition/wells/MM so they’re not aware of your Life Blasts at all. You have 3 stun breakers (Wurm may be switched to WoP) so it doesn’t work that bad in current meta. After some practice, a lot of fun. Usable in zergs, however try to be on the sideline
