To those who still cling to their whiny ways, I’d like for you to think about something:
Think about the various groups of players, what they enjoy and so on. I’ll give you some examples: PvPers, WvWers, Puzzle Jumpers!, Sit-around-LA-and-chatters, Dungeon Runners, and of course, yourselves, casual wander-around-the-mappers. How did these various groups fair under the old system? How do they fair under the new system?
Once you’ve given that some thought, is the tiny (and yes, requiring a 5 minute investment of your time is TINY) possible rise in the effort required of you not worth the massive benefit towards the more marginalized groups?
I think you (and some white knights blindly defending this) miss the issue. People could come in in before and get their dailies done with very little effort by doing what they wanted to do. Now they are being forced into other maps and get forced to do things they otherwise wouldn’t. It was enjoyable before/ now it isn’t.
Which people?
AP Hunters? Nope.
PvPers? Nope.
WvWers? Nope.
Puzzle Jumpers? Nope.
La-Chatters? Nope.
Dungeon Runners? Nope.
There was only one group of people doing what you describe, the casual wander around the map aimlessly people. And for those people, it’s just a 5 minute or so increase on their time doing other things if they are unwilling to try new things. For all the other groups, they were already having to wander outside of their preferred zones, sometimes for several hours (In the case of AP hunters).
Untrue, Some people don’t like to go outside of PVE. I’m in that catagory. I’ve leveled 10 toons myself doing plenty of content. Would you call that casual? ) Perhaps I am compared to some hardcore players)
I go all over the map. However, i don’t like being directed around here or there. I wanna play how I want. I want options and I don’t want to do what i don’t want to do. remember play how you like. It’s about choice. I doubt I’ll change your mind, so I’ll leave it at that.
Well luckily all of the rewards from before, other than AP, are tied to simply logging in. You can still play how you want.
If they wanna add AP to the list then I’ll skip it entirely. However, I liked doing my daily, it was one of the enjoyable things left in GW2.
The whole Idea of rewarding log in (as opposed to rewarding fun play) is beyond me anyway. I can kill a million mobs and get crap loot. Same for opening chests. Where did this mentality come from?

Op, If you really feel this way then you may be better off cutting your losses on the $35. It’s with great displeasure say that. However, you will be doing a lot of the stuff you described if you say. This is especially true if you leveling toons.
I am truly sorry to say that. I wish I had a better answer for you. I just finished getting 5 new toons to 80 (since around halloween.) Let’s just say it was unpleasant and repetative.

Before If lets say i wanted to play a while in ascalon, np I could do that and simultaneously get the daily done. As opposed to now where I have to camp bosses, warp to other maps, do vistas, use the MF, PvP, WvW, etc.
How is that an improvement? (other than free AP) they broke something that was unbroken. frankly, the time could have been better spent fixing real issues.
About the boss timers vs the mega server. As is, I like neither option. Frankly, I don’t like using third party sites. Not only is it a design flaw, but you put your computer at risk. I printed a list of event times from Wiki which I keep by my computer now. Which i actually mind less than option 1. The problem is it’s largely inaccurate.
Yes, they screwed up the dailies. What I don’t understand is the dev’s inability to see five minutes in front of their face. They have a broken megaserver system that they’re fixing. They simultaneously force large groups of people into small areas. Then are seemingly shocked by the problem worstening.
Why not fix the one problem before tackling the second. Rather than fixing what needs it, (camera, lag, etc) They fix stuff that wasn’t an issue, like traits and the daily.
The dailies were never particularly challenging. They were always trivial, and far more grindy than they are now. If anything, they just took the grind out of it.
It used to be you’d get the daily done after doing a few rounds of what you normally do.
Kill Tequatl = daily done.
Do 1-2 dungeons = daily done.
Do 3-5 rounds of PvP = daily done.
Spend 30-60 min in WvW = daily done.
Champ train for 15-30 mins = daily done. For most players this wasn’t grindy, because those activities were a part of their normal routine. When you waypointed to Splintered Coast you were going to accomplish something (kill a big dragon).
Now you’re waypointing to a level 1 area to gather carrots, and I presume they are not used to power the Vigil Megalaser.
I am sure it was like that for some but Underwater kills, kill variety, laurel vendor visiting, event mentoring, reviving, and others were all things I stopped doing what I wanted in order to complete.
Underwater kills, yeah I rarely got the done. But Kill variety, event mentoring, reviving were things that I would get done through normal game play. Laurel Vendor was usually a bonus for exp at the end of the day, while I was salvaging another bonus exp if it was up for the 10. Since I was in town banking and selling.
Most of the stuff that they had up for the dailies could be done just by going out doing your normal activities.
And now even though it’s only 3 of 4 in PvE, you have to go do certain things, in an area of their choosing. It’s not where you want to be at, be it if you are leveling up, or out farming mats, like it was before.
I loved the old dailies. Underwater killer was fun anyway. Often times you could do double or triple duty by doing say, Underwater killer ascalon killer and daily kills all at once. You don’t like that one ? NP, there were usually 6-8 options to chose from.
The funny part is that with a broken megaserver system (and laggy silverwastes/drytop) they decide to force larger numbers of people in small areas.
I don’t know why the white knights always rush in to defend the game on every issue. Often times with stupidity like, the daily is optional or so don’t do it. He wants to do it.
Honestly the old system gave you options, while this one forces your hand. I generally avoid vistas and siverwastes, yet I had to do it. Doable for me, but he’s underlevel. Yeah I did it, but I didn’t enjoy it. I liked the old dailies.
Solution, Throw a few of the old options into the mix. Choice is good.
I have to agree with you OP. There’s not enough options for the PVE only player or newbies. Once again Anet has fixed the unbroken.
Many of the PVE options have been awful. I don’t like to be forced into silver wastes either and all my toons are 80. Its a laggy mess. What ever happened to play your way?
The daily today had 5 PVE catagories:
1) do 4 queensdale events
2) kill jungle worm
3) collect 4 plants in maguma jungle.
4) create something in the mystic forge
5) finish 3/4 daily catagoriesProblems with each:
1) queensdale became a laggy. Too many people at each event who were basically one hitting enemies. I was at an escort event i got no credit for, becuase the mobs all died before my skills could activate. Bad idea packing a specific starter zone like that.
2) I just missed it. So now i have to wait for specific bosses to spawn? What a pain!
3)This one was Okay.
4) I don’t normally use the forge but since I missed the worm, I had to do it. it wasn’t difficult. However, it isn’t PVE, its crafting.
5) finish 3 catagories? You only need three. Not really helpful getting it when your done.
This is way more restrictive than the old system. Likewise for the monthy. When i have time to play I could get the monthly reward. Now I have to carve out time each day to do this 28 days or no reward? Why not lower the threshhold to 15 days? I’m busy sometimes.
1. Then come back later when the zone isn’t so crowded. Typical that a zone should be so packed right after the update goes live with a specific zone to do something in. I imagine this will get much more tolerable and easier after the patch has been live for a bit. Also, did you join the escort event really late, or at the beginning? The escort will be more than long enough to get in a hit or two…….your comment on the escort seems to indicate that you came in at the very end…..so I can understand why you might not get credit for it. Repops on most escorts don’t usually take very long, so you could easily get back in on the beginning of it in not too much time.
2. You do realize that there are several sites out there that list the times of all the bosses and what sort of schedule they’re on, yes? No need to wait….just check one of the many online schedules.
3. Crafting has been PvE ever since the origination of crafting in mmorpgs. You don’t have to kill another player to craft, so yes, it is Player vs Environment. And crafting is super easy and quick, once you see how it is done.
Also, you do realize that the ‘monthly’ will no longer exist, yes? As explained in the patch notes, the existing monthly will go ahead and play out for those in the middle of it, but after this monthly expires, there will no longer be ‘monthlies’.
1) I was there for the event not the end. I was on an Ele (long cast times) and between the lag and people one hitting everything, I did not kill enough to get credit, although I did kill a few mobs. Come back later is not a valid answer. Its too narrow an area to pack people into. I shouldn’t have to play around a design problem by returning later.
2) I don’t use third party sites, and I shouldn’t have to to complete my daily. I do use wiki, but their info is hit and miss. Still the requirement is too specific which leaves you waiting for a spawn. Again bad design.
3) crafting is crafting. Its an optional part of the game. It’s not PVE. There’s not enough PVE only options. Using the MF was not that bad, but still.
Nevermind…..I should have known better than to even try to respond to a stance like yours. You have already decided that since the game doesn’t cater to you, it’s “bad design”. /smh
Enjoy!
I like doing my dailies, but there are some bad design elements to it. Instead of jungle worm, it could be one of a few bosses. Instead of confining everyone to queensdale (tiny area) they could expand it to a few more areas.
More importantly, I think the OP was correct. There should be more PVE options. Like I said, you needed 3/4 to finish. Why not 3/6?
Now I have to carve out time each day to do this 28 days or no reward? Why not lower the threshhold to 15 days? I’m busy sometimes.
You don’t have to do it 28 days consecutively. You can miss a day, a week, or a month and still retain your progress.
Yeah, but if you don’t then you aren’t getting your full mothly reward for the year. That means you are getting the reward less frequnetly.
True. Getting the full rewards would be pushed back for however many days that you were not on. Would you really be so busy that you cannot login even for a minute?
Also, here’s a bit of math. There are 365 days in a year. The achievement is based on 28 days which is 336 days. This gives you a buffer if 29 days or an extra month compared to the old monthly system.
Ok, your point is noted, but i don’t want to get them less often than others due to my schedule.

Here, I’m a failure story. I have played the game since launch with a break or two in the past six months. At most I think I had 300g, but that involved having excess gems from purchasing things like infinite pick axe or other temporary/seasonal items.
On average I hover around 50g in my pocket. right now I have 20g and it does not move very far.
I do not farm to any huge extent, I salvage everything as I am still farming mats. I upgrade full stacks to higher tiers when capped out on lower level mats.
I salvage yellows for ectos and bank or use them myself and I save exotics to try to mystic forge on the off chance for a precursor.
I have gotten a few random exotic items I was able to sell for short term boosts in gold, but nothing concrete.
I have “tried” to play the market. Flipping I fail at and investing never pays off, so I fail at understanding how to do it….buy low sell high? I use gw2spidy and look at trends, I buy low and sit on things but after a week or two I give up and sell it back to break even or minimize loss.
So I either need to farm for hours and do large community events, or I need to learn how to trading post better….or both
Majority of my time is spent in spvp and theory crafting builds.
Am I the average player, or is everyone else way better off than me?
Nah don’t worry, I’m exactly the same. I think at one time I had little over a 100g but then I reached lv80 on an alt and due to having to gear him up I got back to around 20g.
On average I also hover around 50-60g or so.That’s why I never even bothered trying to craft a legendary. It has always just seemed like an impossible task for me.
I’m in the same boat as you both. Hell will freeze over before I touch crafting. I have ascended jewelery and exotic armor on my toons, and that is where I draw the line. The rest feels like chasing my tail.
Tequatl gives alot of karma ! and SW or EoTM are good options! with banners and boosters
Yup, do teq once a day. You get lots of karma and karma consumables. There’s one right when the daily refreshes (7pm EST…..don’t ask me GMT).
Wanna improve NPE? Get more alt friendly by doing the following:
-The hearts should be quicker to do.
-XP should be ideally tripled for everything across the board.
-Early unlock of skills traits and trait points.
- personal story is not fun especially when you’ve done it multiple times.
-once the personal story arc converges, it gets even more painful. (its like a bad deja vous)
- Kill off Trahearne (ok, I’m kidding on this one……..well kinda)
One more thing loot Give a drop chance of good level 80 loot. I feel cheated while leveling because I am missing out on the good loot. I wanna be able to enjoy the journey not rush to 80. Some of us do like leveling toons, Ya know?
That would be a good start.
You don’t need a black lion key to get a makeover kit (though you might get a kit in a chest). You can just buy the kit directly on the gem store, assuming you’re willing to buy the gems with cash or with gold.
Even if you don’t want to spend gems, it could be fun to window shop all the gem store tabs just to see what’s out there so you know where people got the cool things you see them running around with.
Thanks, but hell would probably freeze over before i paid for such a thing. I have yet to find anything in the gem store i’d pay for. I did want to spend too. Go figure.
I don’t understand your logic.
You like the hair kit which is only available from the gem store or black lion chests, and said you would prefer a total makeover kit, then said hell would have to freeze over before you pay for it and you didn’t know about it because you refuse to even look at the gem store?
Also the good news is you get a free total makeover kit for getting 5,000 achievement points and another at 10,000.
Cosmetics are just not that important to me. perhaps i am the odd man out on that one. I certainly wouldn’t pay for one. I feel we should be able to find the cometic stuff in game or work towards it. I have no problem paying for stuff i find valuable. Usually that involves some sort of utility.
Plus I am quite happy with my toons appearence. I made sure to choose well when rolling. I did use the head kit I found though. It was cool enough.
You’re right about the gem store. I haven’t been there in quite a while. every time I’ve looked through I found RNG type of stuff, over priced stuff (the mining picks come to mind), or cosmetic stuff i wouldn’t pay for.
To each their own.
I like the head kit. It was pretty sweet but how about a full makeover kit?
What do you mean?
There’s already the Total Makeover Kit which lets you change everything about your character’s appearance except their race.
What else are you looking for?
If there is a total makeover kit, then what is the purpose of the head kit anyway?

Huh, Imagine that. I never came across one before. Had no idea they existed. Perhaps it would be different If i purchased gems. I never have so my access to black lion keys is pretty limitted. TY for the info.
I don’t really want an expansion. The map is big enough already. If people did the DE’s that were there they would not be so bored. I think that may be largely behind the new reward system replacing monthies/dailies. It gets people in an area and playing.
I like the head kit. It was pretty sweet but how about a full makeover kit?
John,
I’ve been leveling new toons for a while now. I enjoy it, but I suffer in the loot department. Virtually no exotics and rarely a rare drop. I think you should have a shot at good level 80 loot no matter what you are doing. (even if its small)
My drop luck has been pretty bad overall. I like your #1 fix. If had extrordinarilly bad drop luck in a set amount of time you’d get one by default. Diablo III implemented this.
Perhaps removing Dr would help as well? just a thought.
I can count on one hand the amount of times I defened the devs on an issue. This is going to be one of them. The patch notes said the new system promises all the rewards of the current one (laurels included) and more.
I am going to take them at face value and just wait and see. If it’s what they say it is, I’ll be pleased.
I will say this though, I really liked dailies and monthlies. they were one of my favorite things in the game.
(edited by SHM.7628)
From a design standpoint DPS is king in this game.
I like a sylvari ranger because they have a hound summon elite that is very good and synergizes well. Its kinda like having 2 pets.
Out of the choices you gave I’d probably roll a female norn. What can I say? I like tall chicks!
(edited by SHM.7628)
TY all for your feedback
Dyes don’t ever drop anymore; they were removed as a drop back when they made identified dyes account bound. You can only get them from the gem store, TP, black lion chests, or the laurel vendors now, I believe.
As for other drops, I haven’t noticed a change in the rate of good drops for me. I have good days, and I have bad days.
Thanks, Didn’t know that dye no longer dropped. What about black lion keys? Haven’t gotten any of those either, except through personal story.
I’ve been leveling toons so some of it is to be expected. I used to occasionally get a rare. I haven’t gotten an exotic in well over a month. Even the dyes haven’t been dropping. what gives? Is it just my luck as of late? How is everyone else faring?
Yeah my golem is bugged too. Aprreciate the heads up and replacement golems. TY
Well, it can work in open world pve, but yep, you won’t do big damage, you won’t have aoes for tagging, you won’t have permanent swiftness.. It comes down to a matter of personal preference. Some people I know really love their mesmer and even with these obvious disadvantages they enjoy playing it more than say, a thief or an ele. If you like cc, eles have good area controls+ everything the mesmer lacks in open world pve ( swiftness/movement skills, damage, offensive support and self buffing, cleaving/aoes).
I have returned to GW after almost 2 years less then a week ago, but my 80 mesmer have to disagree with most of the stuff you wrote:
- I had the same problem with lack of speed buffs for mesmer, because I like openPvP most – but friendly people here on the forum showed me the way: perma swiftness is quite easy to obtain for Mesmer – Centaur runes + Mirror is 13sec uptime swiftness with 15sec recast… if you have few points in Chaos you can easily get 15 sec uptime. Add IV from Inspiration and every 15 sec you have heal+15sec swiftness+2 sec reflect +2conditions self removal…
- with GS 3 you have nice aoe for tagging, Staff 1 with extra bounce trait can tag also nicely
- I am quite happy with dps – using mainly GS with mostly Berserker exotic equip – nothing to brag about – but works quite nicely – and works from range, while you have utilities to stay at range
…. tbh every time I tried another class I have returned to Mesmer:
- War 80 – too straightforward “jump them and bash them” to my taste
- Necro 40somethin – hate Staff skills (only really ranged weapon), hate Death Shroud mechanic
- Guard 35+ probably only other class I somehow liked, but do not want to level now new char and enjoying Mesmer too much… also it has no ranged weapon (scepter is really bad IMHO) and I prefer to have good ranged weapon
- Thief, Engineer tried, deleted… one of them acts as mule
- never tried Ranger nor Ele ….PS: caster with GS!!!!
Thanks for the info. I do disagree with you on Gardian about ranged weapons. Staff is more of a half ranged weapon but it is great in a zerg. My guard is tanky as heck and heals well and removes conditions. When its time to get in close GS rocks

I am at present leveling a Thief. A lot of the frustration you discribed about mesmer, I am feeling with thief. Great single target damage, but in this game AOE is king. This gets better with level, I know. No speed buff is kinda painful too.
Yeah, I like Ele too. My faves so far are Ranger, Guardian, and necro. (in that order)
Speaking for dungeons mainly:
I personally don’t enjoy mesmer, but it’s a really strong, and fun class. I just don’t like doing no damage in pve/ being reliant on AI. The tormet buff has absolutely nothing to do with the pve mesmers. They don’t use scepter, don’t use torment, and don’t rely on conditions.Mesmer is a strong group class. It has all the utilities in the world, and having a mesmer/guardian in the group makes everything easier. The problem with mesmer is there’s a lot of strats to learn, and a lot of things to do to be efficient ( portal spots, lots of useful utilities and buids to switch to) They are worth rolling if you have a semi competent team, otherwise you can’t really carry pugs because you have little offensive support.
Thanks Oxtred. You really answered my question for me. I don’t especially like dungeons. I mostly run open world PVE alone. Seeing what I’ve read so far, I don’t think its worth it to me to roll one.
I guess its the torment buff they got.
Not even close, I hope.
Mesmer is support/utility class with CC. If you don’t like the playstyle don’t use it imo (I wouldn’t play a class I can’t enjoy).
They always were worth it for the utility and support, people just are too stupid to see beyond big numbers.
You make some good points. I primarily play alone (or in a zerg) so i would see little benefit from the utility. I like CCing. However, if you aren’t popping big damage numbers or extremely tanky, I can see it getting old fast.
Thanks for the input.
Been seeing a ton of mesmers in PVE as of late. I guess its the torment buff they got. Try as I may have in the past, I never could get into them. They just felt painful to me to play. A lot of work and very little fun.
Since I never PVP, Are they worth rolling for PVE now?
I agree with you OP.
Plus add ridiculous lag (and a stupid camera) to the mix and it’s not long before you’re was armorless and getting one hitted. Yeah, I got it done but it was annoying rather than fun.
Frankly, I am at the point that I don’t want to bother with silverwastes/drytop or this story anymore.
The system was actually way worse before. They at least adjusted the loot to your level. Before there would be almost no reason to go to a lower level.
I know how you feel though. Your point is well taken, especially for a new player. When you are well geared it will feel much different though. You don’t lose your gear/weapon bonuses to down leveling. Plus rewards, karma, gold and loot are scaled to your current level. This is a real nice advantage to the system.
You may never love it, but it gets better.
The changes are further restricting build variety needlessly. The old system was fantastic. I like playing new toons and experimenting. this restriction is cumbersome and needless, and expensive.
Tequatl tonight 11/4/2014 was mad lag!!!! Everyone was dropping and had major amounts of DC’s.
yeah, Teq lags. I’ve been laging in silverwastes and drytop for me too. They must need a server fix.
I’d like more skirts and the shorter the better please!
Do I have to go through dry top to do “recalibratiting the waypoints”? If so i doubt I’ll be progressing in that story. I greatly dislike jumping puzzle type of play. Dry top seems to lag for me which makes the whole experience even more displeasurable.
Is there a go around? If not can we have one please?
I think a gem store utility pack (or packs) would be a great idea. Some things it could include:
-insta level 80 toons (if you’ve leveled to 80 at least once)
-infinite crafting tools
-skill unlocks
-max weapon/ armor (stats only not rarity/skins)
-free map travelSome will argue that this is P2W. At this point of the games progression, these are more convenience items. ex-No one is going broke on picks or map travel. Only a small minority of brand new players would reap any kind of advantage. That would be fine as they are behind the curve anyway.
Moreover, you could charge well for it. I could see people dropping $50 or more for such an option. Does anyone else like the idea? What else would you be willing to pay for in such a pack?
Dude, it is already pay to win.
Specifically, why do you feel that way?
Well very simple.
You have to pay to get the game, you can only win if you have the game, so it is pay to win.
That really isn’t what pay to win means. This pay to own. Anyway, what (if anything) would you add/ remove from a gem store utility pack?

Do people still use those BS things?
Obviously some people do. There are over 7 million people registered with Overwolf.
Registered =/= active, or using it on a relatively regular basis.
^Inorite.
I guess both vayne and his employer (winkwink) must be testing new grounds over at the comedy show scene. Also, the whole business plan of GW2 he mentioned must indeed be quite a success overall, especially in its most recent manifestation which, having united the typically divided communty and allow it to act in unison against a largely unethical business decision, hands down successfully achieved something that no one else could even dream of so far.
In that sense it is indeed a pretty good company, a splendid one even, so I’m giving it a sound thumbs-up and a strong kiu!
Totally off topic of course, but since you lost the argument, you might as well try to obfuscate.
Oh right, those Google metrics you provided absolutely shattered my ‘doom and gloom’, kinda like Anet’s sound business decisions so far strongly improved retention and boosted them new-player figures, rite.
Nice comedy-fantasy thread, nevertheless!
But reasonable people who don’t have an agenda will see it for what it is. No one is trying to convince you of anything. Anyone can see from your post history (as they can see from mine) exactly what you’re about.
Easy enough to make up their own minds. A reasonable person will see the mass amount of evidence, circumstantial though it is, as opposed to the non-evidence provided by people who want the game to fail because they don’t like it.
Let me know when layoffs start then we’ll talk. Until then, you really have nothing to support your arguments.
Vayne, You saying “people wanting the game because they don’t like it is” is pretty anecdotal in itself. How do you know how posters feel? It’s conjecture on your part at best.
Frankly, I am more apt to believe that most people that feel the game is empty or unpopular are greatly displeased by that. I know, that is conjecture on my part.
To your point on people making up their own minds: I think their experience will dictate that more than your highly skewed calculation method.
Terrible way to track since no one rly uses those apps, xfire is going off of 400 or so GW2 players.
The only use xfire has is connecting to more people when it’s hard to find servers these days for dead (but legendary) games like CoD4, which is why it is #1 on their list.
Raptr is cool but I don’t actively use it anymore.. nice for the rewards if you care about that. Rift is partnered with em and I get some pets and stuff here and there when I play that.
This is simply bad metrics, and in no way an accurate representation of the game.
Agreed, This is reminiscent of political polling There’s no way to really know the accuracy. This is just a targeted sampling of a people at best. The actual numbers could be way off.
Only Anet really knows the actual numbers. Does it really matter anyway? If I go on and the game is packed and busy= the game is popular and growing. If I have to server hop and can’t find players = its empty.
I’m more likely to believe what I see rather than what one of these sites say. If I log in and see flooded (or empty maps) of players that so called “anecdotal evidence” would speak volumes more to me.

Thanks Randulf. I, myself, am not a big “skins” guy. I would never gamble for them with a real money purchase even if I was.
I like utility. I’d contribute to the game for stuff like maxed out inventory space and infinite gathering tools account bound, etc.
Some people think that the RNG purchases are more lucrative for Anet. I respectfully disagree. They may make more money from a select few players. However, I think most players avoid such purchases.
Yet I never have. I anticipated this game for years. I’ve wanted to support it. I still do! Does that sound crazy?
Here’s why I haven’t:
1) I disagreed with the direction of game changes made.
2) fixes that were needed were never made.
3) The cash shop really offered nothing I wanted.
I have money to spend. Give me a reason to spend it. Perhaps some max stat items, Some items with real utility. Instant level ups to level 80. A permanent account wide universal gathering tool. Am I alone on this?
