Seems the clueless people befell this thread so far….
hy do original players have to pay $50 TWICE to get what new players will get come expansion??
It IS an issue!
Original Players: $50 for GW2 + $50 for Xpac
New Players: $50 for Xpac/ INCLUDES Original Core Game
Not fair at all to those who bough the game originally.
A Free character Slot is NOT worth the extra $50 at all.Maybe it’s time to move on to something less money mongering.
Good Luck all.
I look at it as a discount. I think they are money mongering with the gem shop. I think that needs to go. Its offensive to pay for a B2P game and expansions, and then all the drops are in the gem shop. Its the main reason I will not buy the expansion ever.

I rarely defend the developers on anything. I have no problem with them charging for the expansion. They just throw in the core game with the expansion for new players as incentive to buy. They’ve already sold the core game a few times for 10 bucks. It’s simply a discount
Also, if you don’t want the expansion then you don’t have to buy it. I didn’t because I don’t like the direction the game has taken in many ways. There’s too much that needs fixing. I get to vote with my wallet.
And undermine gem-store sales of salvage-o-matics (and infinite gathering tools?)
No thanks.
1) Undermine how? If I want one of those I’d buy one (or more). Now I carry 3 of each tool and 4 salvage kits per toon, so I don’t run out when I am in the middle of something.
With the improvement, I’d carry a stack of each tool on the toon with one stack back up. Same with salvage kits. (one plus one back up)
2) Why are you defending gems store anyway? Are you an employee or getting a commission?
I might have been willing to pay a few bucks per account for a limitless set of gathering tools and salvage kits, but they would have been account bound and at a reasonable price. Say $10 -$15 per tool/ kit. but that isn’t how it went down
I digress though, this is about inventory space. I see no problem with stacking.
1) I feel like I’ve already adequately explained this in previous posts
2) I’m putting across the point that they’re unlikely to add a feature that not only decreases their gem-store sales, but also kicks previously paying customers in the teeth. I paid for convenience and reducing inventory clutter, and wouldn’t have bought the item if I could’ve just stacked salvage-kits in the first place. You have to look at it from a business standpoint. It’s not a kick in the teeth. That is what they offered at the time. Things change in game. Get used to it. People are now playing the game you likely preordered, for free.
You shouldn’t be jealous anyway. Buyer be ware. You made the purchase freely. You have your item and it still works.
And its a really good offer if you dont want to have the hassle of running to a merchant when you happen to run out of kits or harvesting tools why should they implement something new just becouse you dont want to fork over the in game cash or real life cash for said convenience?
I’m paying for the kits with in game currency. I just want larger batches. Stacking is a great idea. Although, selling kits with more charges would work too. Same for gathering tools.
Is there any reason why Salvage Kits do not stack to 250?
Tradition, i.e. probably because this is how most RPGs have handled limited-use items. Plus, technically, these aren’t set up as individual items; each kit (or gathering tool for that matter) has charges, which are diminished by each use.
So I’d rephrase the question as: why doesn’t ANet consider changing these from single-items-with-charges to stacks of single-use-items? Probably because at this point, it would be incredibly costly in terms of QA (if not actual coding) — there are so many different bits of the game that assume that these items are charged & non-stacking, it is a small nightmare to make sure that each is addressed.
tl;dr these items don’t stack because no one thought to make them like that in the first place and now, no one wants to deal with all the potential bugs of changing that.
I think you’re greatly overestimating the difficulty in implementing the change and possible bugs.

They are account bound so go ahead and buy you can even use ingame gold to get it bud, no need to spend and cash.
Why s/he defend gem store becouse its a good business model instead of paying 15 bucks a month to even get into game
I disagree, its an awful business model. Its a free to play with an upfront cost and paid expansions. AND there’s free to play players too. This is the worst of both worlds.
Your argument about subs is nonsensical. there are lots of B2P that survive without a cash shop. (like GW1) Subs are going the way of the dinosaur anyway.
Again, this is about stacking tools anyway. Which doesn’t affect that anyway.

+1 I’d like to stack them and gathering tools too. How about being to be able to put the gathering tools in the wallet too?
You cant chose your login reward its random mate.
Yeah I completely spaced that in my post, my mistake.
Still, instead of letting them pile up, start making use out of them. I mean, if you have that many might as well start churning out a profit by salvaging exotics for runes and mats and selling it for more than the actual exotic, like was said above.
Wow, I almost never get them. I have only one left and wanted more. If the exotic only worth around a gold you should be using you kit on it.
As it stands, Anything non zerk will cause you to give away more than you can make up for in another category. This is true of healing power and condition damage as well. When you really need to lay down the most damage (boss fights) condition damage will cap out.
The only place I found healing power to be useful was when I stacked my guardian with it and toughness. Frankly the healing power and toughness was great to keep myself alive, but healing others was marginal at best.
It probably isn’t viable at all except in a PVE zerg. (which is what I primarily use it for)
I get your point OP. Things appear to be changing though. The devs have shown that they are willing to make huge changes in game mechanics. Perhaps this may be one of them? We’ll have to wait and see. Right now DPS is king.
You can get it and then dump it? Forget the mini, I’ll do it so they stop repeatedly asking me at sign on. How about a “Remind me never” option.
To paraphrase a quote, “The true nature of a person is revealed when given anonymity.”
Nearly everyone keeps their online selves and real life selves and lives segregated. I don’t agree with attempts to integrate real life and online such as Facebook.
I agree with you but many don’t keep them segregated anymore. There’s real life consequences for things said and done online. This stuff can follow you and haunt you later.
I read one case where a young man was prosecuted for threats made in an online game. It’s best to exercise caution and restraint when speaking in public.
To paraphrase a quote, “The true nature of a person is revealed when given anonymity.”
So true. When people are anonymous and/or feel immune from consequences then you see what they truly are.
OP, You have my sincere sympathy on this. I’m an older guy with a pretty thick skin and I can’t believe some of the chat stuff I read. I chalk it up to 13 year old immaturity and just ignore it.
You have every right to report it.
This type of thing is going on and you’re about to release the expansion? Between bugs, lag and an already almost nonexistent FPS the new release is going to be a nightmare. What were you thinking?
I doubt release is only those patches they’ve added to the patch note, I presume they’re also loading HoT content with this (and presumably, they’ll also sneakload more the coming weeks). So, unless everybody will delete their .dat file before launch, I doubt this will happen on release day.
You have way more faith in them than I do. As a general rule, building on a broken system yields bad results. However, I guess we’ll have to wait and see though.

If u were able to log in at all you are doing better than a lot of people. There’s a problem on their end
I managed to get the download done but can’t connect at all now
I have to agree with some of the other posters that there’s no evidence F2P was at the root of your incident.
I don’t like the F2P model. I don’t want it here. That includes a cash shop that makes the game feel F2P. This is a B2P with expansions and it should play like one.
My opinion is that F2P brings in a less desirable crowd as well. If I wanted a F2P I would have downloaded one. I opted to buy instead, I think that boundary should be respected.
Except people don’t agree. Calling them white knights because they don’t agree with you is unfair. Many of us have played truly dropless MMO’s and this isn’t amongst them.
A lot of it is your own perception. I disagree the yellows and exotics are junk, because they provide a source of material salvage to make what I want, rather than relying on waiting for an exact item to drop.
10 years ago I played an MMo where you camped a boss which had maybe a 5% chance to drop a desired item amongst an array of items which were worth perhpas 1/100th of the junk dropped in this game when you compare economies. And then you had to out damage an opponent to get that chance of a drop anyway.
GW2 system is far superior than most. It still needs tweaks though. Ascended hasn’t hit that sweet spot and named exotics from bosses are just a little too rare for my tastes.
The fact is, opinions differ and many genuinely prefer THIS system. If people don’t agree with you, then accept it or continue to discuss maturely. Or ignore them. But you shouldn’t call ppl trolls etc just for having a differing opinion.
Your point is taken, but The nonsense I’ve seen defended on these boards is ridiculous. People defending the bad camera, FPS, and diminishing rewards come to mind. Really?
Disagreeing and trolling are 2 different things. I know the difference. Someone posts the sky is blue and 10 people come out and say it’s red. It’s usually the posters too. While I disagree with what you said, but at least you didn’t try to pee on my leg and tell me its raining. See the difference?
What fun utility drops have been removed besides dyes?
I know there are other methods for attaining some of the following but we are talking about drops here:
bank express, Golems, trading post express, merchant express, tomes of knowledge, All types of dyes and kits, transmutation charges, black lion ticket scraps, tonics, non temporary gathering tools and boosters.
Black lion key is not something you farm. Its something you stumble upon accidently.
same as a precursor. Its purely an RNG item, its not even an actual reward.
Not only is the chance for a BL key worse than awful, the chance you even get something useful out of the black lion chest is probably even smaller lol.
When you have system that is RNG (black lion chest goodies) WITHIN ANOTHER SYSTEM OF RNG (getting the black lion key drop) , you have something that is UTTERLY and HILARIOUSLY greedy….
What was anet’s motive for the black lion key change? they don’t like farmers. PERIOD.
They want ppl in the gemstore buying the black lion key with real $$, they don’t want ppl farming the key through drops or story completion. That is a fact.
Oh yea anet increased the chances alright.
going from .0005% drop rate to .0010% drop rate is still laughable.
If you think this MMORPG has a good loot system in place where players can farm items they want, you are delusional.
all you do is farm gold at the best rate possible (silverwastes/daily dung speed run/ and chest/champ train) than buy whatever it is you are looking for. You don’t actually go out and have this hope of getting real loot, real drops…
Thank you. Finally someone who gets it! I ’m begining to hate posting here. No matter how valid a point you make 10 white knight trolls jump on the post to try and discredit it.
The game is not fun without drops and that is the way it is.
It’s amazing to see how tons of people will come out and defend Anet for anything. Trolls aside, I’ll reiterate my points.
This is a dropless game. What does drop is largely useless to the guy who isn’t leveling toons.
-Most of the exotics are mostly gold bordered junk now too, with rare exception.
-Any fun utility items that used to drop have been all but removed from the game.
-Ascended which would at least be an upgrade for me, all but never drop.
-Blues and greens for salvaging were fun for a while. But getting to 300 MF is a treadmill goal that is all but unattainable for most. I stopped at 100 because it does nothing but make you poor.
That doesn’t even take into account how they intentionally took a lot of the goodies (like dyes and black lion keys) out to favor the gem store.
You keep saying this, but it’s still not true. Keys still drop, just at an extremely low rate.
As a side note, dyes don’t drop from plants or anything anymore, but they do still drop from PS/LS reward bags (Bags of Loot).
I don’t know for certain if there’s an infinitesimal chance at a black lion key. As far as I am concerned, I’ll believe it when I see it. I’ve seen zero and I play quite a bit.
Hasn’t worked for me either, however over recent months I have been practically living in spvp because I have played the base game aspects so much without reward that it just doesn’t seem worth it. I would rather have fun and be challenged by other players.
To your point, people are farming Silverwastes, doing fractals and WvW and skipping PVE completely because of this loot problem.
Silverwastes and fractals are PvE.
Silverwastes are in fact PVE that behaves more like a dungeon. Fractals are dungeons. I think you missed the larger point though.
My drops come in spurts. This week I’ve gotten more exotics than normal. My rare salvage to ecto rate feels better too. I know its just rng.
My tin foil hat theory is the less time I play the better my drop rate is. Its like anet coded the game to give better loot if you play less and wants to make you more excited to log in and play by giving you better loot.
You go away on a vacation and come back its like drops falling in your lap.
I’ve experienced this too.
Threads like this one make me laugh. Just because you haven’t seen it, it doesn’t exist or it’s been rigged/nerfed, and you want it fixed (to your liking).
I only have 181% magic find and I get rares all the time from champ bags (esp silverwastes). I have received three or four exotics in the past week and a half to two weeks. And I was running events in Orr this weekend and someone in my party got a Black Lion Chest Key as a drop from a mob.
My thoughts are that you may need to change up your game a little. Change where you farm for your loot. I hadn’t run in Orr since probably the first year of the game, and I forgot how good the loot was (granted the loot/events there have been openly nerfed over the years).
I play daily I do most (if not all) of the world bosses once per day. I’ve done Teq religiously at reset. 6 months in and no exotics or ascended.
Why should anyone have to “change their play” to mitigate a legitimate loot table problem? That doesn’t even take into account how they intentionally took a lot of the goodies (like dyes and black lion keys) out to favor the gem store.
Fox, you really can’t go “FIX LAG NOW” and now show where the issue is. On other threads, the Anet team has clearly stated what they require to be able to assist.
Anet is completely aware of issues and willing to fix them. If you don’t help them with that, how can they find the issue. As others have stated, they can go play pvp with 0 lag. So if Anet were to go and “fix the lag” and enters pvp, and never encounters it, how would you expect them to fix it.
So, what you need to do to actually get someone from Anet to help you (including if you ever submit a ticket)
1) Include the specs of your computer (also you might want to include screenshots of the programs CPU-Z and GPU-Z while GW2 is running)
2) Run a traceroute while you’re experiencing this lag to show where the spiking is occuring.
3) Stop getting angry at people trying to help you. If you really wanted it fixed, you would understand that you also need to help so they can find the issue.
I’m gonna have to call you out on this one. I’ve taken all the steps mentioned plus 2 support tickets. The problem is on their end.
I have the same computer for the last 2 years… I also have more then enough knowledge to know it’s not me, it’s Arenanet. Please stop bullcrapping me. I don’t want your opinions, I just hope someone from the development team reads this so they can look back and analyze what’s wrong, not me. I am also serious about Arenanet to stop with HOT and fix the core game first (dungeon bugs, PvP mmr, lags, etc).
-.-
Why do you keep dodging the question then? The problem can very well be on your end. If you’re unwilling to provide info then how can you expect to receive help?
I have no idea what he’s running. However, I know what I am running. I’ve gone through all the steps including sending them my specs, support tickets, DXdiag, etc. there’s a problem that exists on their end. It’s real. It mysteriously effects some people and not others. Telling him that you don’t have a problem isn’t helpful (when he and many others do).
Drops occur at the Mystic Forge. Take all those garbage weapons, salvage, craft rares and flush. The upside is that you get some control over what you get by flushing 4x something, downside is RNG. But at least you’ll see some exotics now and then.
I agree, you do get some exotics. I got a Quip from the MF. Flushing is not the same as getting drops though. Drops are fun.
1. Exotics do still drop. They’re just a low drop rate because they’re exotic.
2. Ascended armor chests do drop in PVE from champ bags, just like the weapon chests do. And you’re not meant to get those drops often because they’re the highest tier gear and, thus, a very rare drop.
3. Black lion keys have always dropped, just at an incredibly low rate. Sadly, I don’t see that changing.
1) perhaps for some people they do. haven’t seen one in months.
2)I’m not sure if you’re correct, I’ve never once seen one.
3) They did early on. I’m not sure they do at all anymore. However, I’ve gotten them from map completion on rare occasion.
But you can just buy gold for gems and then buy whatever you want from TP, just as intended
That’s quite a rabbit hole though. I strongly recommend some gems to gold especially for dyes but don’t rely on it too much and still do some actual farming. In other words mix it up. That way you can keep your gems for nice outfits while still crafting ascended in a reasonable time. With gems to gold however you still won’t be able to buy enough bolts of damask at least in the first session.
This is not a F2P, we shouldn’t have to pay for our drops. I bought the game and would have been willing to buy the expansion if the game was on point, but it is not. Forget gems, not gonna happen with things as is. (meaning no loot, and the game being a laggy mess.)
(edited by SHM.7628)
They just recently upped the drop rates on black lion keys. Sure it’s still very low, but it is something. They only pulled loot away from areas which would cause ppl to farm in a bad way, like the PS or events where failing or manipulating to get more mobs and thus more loot. Lets not go back to the days when ppl ignored Jormag just to farm his champs. Silverwastes works without drops because you get rewarded for the completion of the event – exactly how it should be.
So drops are still in game and mostly as abundant as ever.
Doesn’t mean the discussion on loot quality or RNG shouldn’t continue though..
I agree the discussion should continue. Silver wastes is a laggy mess for me. I’m not alone on this. Why should we be funneled to specific areas or fractals for loot?
To your point about Champs, I want to see more uniformity in drops anyway. Champ bags don’t drop anything for me anyway. (never, not once) I agree, If there is an exploit it should be addressed. I have no problem with that.
Let me just add something else. The rares I’ve been getting are mostly from the bonus chests. I just did Jormag and was rewarded with blues and greens. Really?? Blues and greens for an epic boss?
Nothing drops anymore. I used to occasionally get an exotic but I haven’t seen one in 6 months. Are they being fazed out or something? (That wasn’t sarcasm) Rare’s are getting boring every time. yeah, you can salvage for ecto, but they are otherwise useless. It would be nice to get something I want or need to drop.
Even exotics are not as much fun because they’ve been out classed by ascended. Which don’t drop in PVE at all other than weapon caches. I’ve only managed to get two of those.
You guys have been moving in the direction of making this a lootless game for some time now. You pulled out the dyes and black lion keys. Drops are fun. Please reinstitute them ASAP.
Problem:
Huge lag since F2P patch (mostly in PvP).
Solution:
Stop with HOT and fix the core game instead.
PS: No I don’t have a bad connection neither a computer from the stone age…
Yup epidemic problem. Yet I’m not surprised by the responses you’re getting here. Sad to say but I think it is what it is. Frankly the problem preceded that. Solution? compound the problem by adding Silverwastes.

You are selling pieces of pixels for a lots of real money
I’ve never understood this type of logic. I’m a writer, but I don’t sell “pages with letters on them.” I sell stories that takes months to write, and several months more to edit into a somewhat decent book I can be proud of. Same goes for ANet. They outfits in the store aren’t just pixels. They are hours and hours of hard labor. Isn’t that worth a few bucks, if you like said outfit? For that matter, isn’t every game just a bunch of code and pixels put together?
Heaven forbid a b2p game that charges nothing monthly have any business tactics so they can continue to provide service.
That argument went out the window the moment they started doing expansions. This behavior is more something you’d expect from a F2P. They’ll never get a $1 from me for gem store nonsense.
Yet another type of logic that’s completely lost on me. GW2 is a B2P game, so ANet isn’t “allowed” to make expansions? Really? Or do you mean they can make all the expansions they want, as long as they sell them piece by piece in the gem store? Sorry, I just don’t understand what you are trying to tell us. No offense.
Guild Wars 2 requires a one-time purchase, and that’s it. Now you can play all you want for free. Now it’s been three years since launch, and they are finally making an expansions. How on earth is that a bad thing, just because they have a gem store? I… don’t… get… it… scratches head Are you saying you’d prefer if we never got new areas, never got a new profession, never got masteries, never got specializations and so on? Or should they sell all that individually in the gem store? Nevermind, I’m too tired to try to make sense of this logic of yours.
Edit: What about games with a subscription, like WoW? Is it ok that they charge a lot of money every month so you can play AND charge extra for expansions?
Clearly we disagree and that is fine. MMOs have changed greatly in the past years. They are moving away from subscription models. Many that have subs go F2P in a couple of years.
Frankly, I like the B2P model. It keeps the riff raff out. However, if I buy the game and expansions then I expect the in game goodies to come from gameplay not a gem store. I’m not opposed to them selling a few convenience items but that should be the extent of it. The hero skill pack of GW1 is a perfectly reasonable example of this.
I think they are price gouging for what they are selling anyway. They sell RNG keys and time lapse purchases like bank golems and boosters. How you defend this behavior for a B2P is beyond me. You don’t understand my logic? Buddy, I don’t understand yours!
Just my 2 cents.
Victory or Death was bugged. You were unable to interact with the cannons. That has been patched since, so you should have no further issues.
It’s still bugged. I just tried it twice.

on a separate note: The game optimization and FPS has always been bad, brutal in silver wastes and dry top. You guys are worried about expansions and gem store when your game is fundamentally broken.
Before anyone jumps on me, I’ve put in support tickets and updated drivers. There’s no problem on my end. This far after release it’s really unacceptable that the game is so unplayable. Optimize your game already.
This should probably be merged with the ‘underwater black screen’ post now, where Anet have communicated that they are investigating and have asked for GPU specs. I’ve provided mine and I’m pretty sure my laptop might fall into the sucky range too lolzertank. You’re not alone.
The reason I didn’t direct my focus onto the ‘underwater black screen’ thread is because my issues are BEYOND the water glitch. The graphics baseline seems to’ve been updated since that patch, and while it has bizarrely resulted in higher-than-ever FPS of 30 (as opposed to around 22) when standing still, the moment action happens, it plummets into a stuttery mess. Whereas before, combat could flow and the FPS would remain relatively steady.
I don’t know, maybe there’s an internal stability issue that’s come with the new patch. But this update has made combat extremely jilted for me. I don’t dare do fractals like this. So I’d like to know what’s going on, what they updated, and if there’s any way of throttling it back.
My FPS (since the last patch) is at an all time low, and it was awful to begin with.
Yes, my screen goes black for a few seconds as well when entering the water. The last patch has made my frame rate drop drasticly as well.
The Airship gets stuck before the three giants and mobs don’t spawn. Tried to do this story 2x solo and got stuck at the same point.
Heaven forbid a b2p game that charges nothing monthly have any business tactics so they can continue to provide service.
That argument went out the window the moment they started doing expansions. This behavior is more something you’d expect from a F2P. They’ll never get a $1 from me for gem store nonsense.
I did it yesterday without incident.
I retract this comment. It wasn’t bugged before but it is now for me.
(edited by SHM.7628)
IMO, If you had an existing account they should give you two or three extra character slots. It’s not like the extra slots cost them anything. Still, I understand why they they bundled the core game. It was to attract brand new players. (totally understandable)
Why not throw in some extra goodies if you’ve had an account for years and pre-purchased HoT?
(edited by SHM.7628)
I would love this option.
Speaking for myself, I’m here from an extended break. I liked aspects of GW2 for sure but a fanboi I am not. the game was lackluster in areas and it got old fast. Why play it? Its not an awful game and its paid for. Will I pay for an expansion? That remains to be seen.
That is your good right, but the player in question clearly had already bought the expansion without seeking info and being bored of the core game, now that’s being plain stupid.
Not necessarily, He may just not like what he sees in the expansion. Many people (probably most people) pre-purchased the core game on good faith and developer promises.
Whether or not its good or bad, The final game will likely be nothing like the Beta anyway. The core game underwent massive changes from what it was originally. Time will tell.
now that’s being plain stupid.
Gotta love people responding with personal attacks instead of debating with poise but hey that’s expected in this day and age; when in doubt, use insults. Bravo.
What is there to debate with someone who put down a beta after an hour and then complains about it. You probally spent more time on the forums already then actually testing.
At least that’s what i assume due to the ignorance of all the systems in the map, in your post.
It’s Ok to praise it but not put it down? He gave his honest assessment. Of course it’s his opinion. Opinions are subjective.
