^This , removal is just an absurd and worse thing a player could propose. It is well known that boon counter is lacking, Anet need to stop their shaving policy and improve the areas that counter boons on other specs/classes, btw at the rate of QQ all thief specs will be as viable as p/p in conquest or TDM.

Stop proposing nerfs ,search the lacking part of the class that you so call main or learned if you did and post that instead and don’t show favoritism, all classes should be capable of filling a certain role anywhere on the risk/reward line even jack of all trades because there has to be a middle ground if extremities exist.

Dueling is already common, with entire servers dedicated for it. The “not balanced around 1v1” reasoning doesn’t fly because dueling is something many people already enjoy and some actually prefer over conquest.

Having the option to duel whenever you want would only add, not detract to the game. I’d love to see some dev opinion on this topic though, its been frequently requested.

Just because I like it doesn’t mean it’s balanced or viable,unless it gets official support it’s not really a thing. Duels usually (always) have player preference “rules” to prevent fighting what they don’t like or wish not to deal with like the necro LF which is heavily needed in teams or some specs, sigils,sets…basically cutting down even more the variety of pvp vs pve or wvw . The merge of queues and the courtyard experience ended giving organized teams a greater advantage vs a team of duel master.

As long as it’s not a queue it may happen but they are most focused on team aspect. You would choose to fight people you know ,specs that shows no threat and dislike to you. I don’t see the challenge expect a lot of QQ if it’s a queue.

Huh….they support team play,strategy and modes…they don’t balance around 1v1..duels spec include a lot of aspect that most pvpers don’t like…why run conquest or TDM specs if you are dueling… You don’t know what you are hoping for.

What’s the point on learning how to adapt comps for courtyard? Is not gonna be in rotation after 16

For most people, it’s not a herculean task that requires hours of practice. It’s just a matter of learning to stick together. It may, of course, be different for you.

They might listen to players and actually create a TDM queue which would end up as ranked and unranked that would be great from them or simply reintroduced it after a little while. Obviously I am for the TDM queue they should know conquest did hurt the other modes,PvP diversity and bored the community.

MMO’s in general are about using rewards to incentivize repetition so players will keep giving money to the development company. All of the Korean grinders are worse than all of the Western MMO’s. Within the Western MMO’s, I’d have a hard time saying any were less repetitive.

That’s why complications happen during localization or if there is even one, most of us can’t or don’t want to handle asian mmos due to endgame usually being a myth. To each it’s liking my only issue with them is the common p2w pattern and the localization itself, I don’t mind some grinding as long as it’s worth it and is mixed with skills rather than pure gear.

Best way to fix the problem would be to separate death matches from capture point matches.

This. Courtyard is nothing like the other maps due to the sudden completely different gamemode.

Only 1 TDM map….or they could use Raid of The Capricorn…, new maps I mean modes are coming soon. How long do you feel like waiting? Get good only thing missing is that build saver icon and a premade speech on how to be a roaming team in TDM for newbies and hopefully they listen.

Quality>quantity . Not all f2p games have a side terrible community you find it mostly in popular ones but an healthy one will exist,the fact that none(so far) can block or remove the bad one as wells as trolls,hackers,bots is a turn off no matter how good the game is, and that comes from my years playing C9(slowly dying and turning into a different type of mmo).

This thread is invalid the teams are not structured. If both teams clash head on what do you expect? It was a choice made by players. It’s a survival mode not kill farming, the thread is invalid. Hope it doesn’t take 2 years for so called decent pvpers to adapt did I forgot to mention the thread is invalid? It’s invalid.

Does being in wvw means I am in a zerg no I am in my squad,player choice.

Playing with premade works better,soloq style will not guarantee that the rest of team knows what to do and won’t get farmed. It’s all about baiting and surviving, wait for opposite team to act first you can judge their skill level based on the first wave. You need 1 or 2 tank/bait/support to help in front line assisted with by a ranged and melee glass,thief is great at that using SA works don’t be afraid to use SB for safety as long as they are not focused on you ,disengage to lose focus if you have to.

The ranged glass can position himslef in a hard to reach against most conquest builds which are expected and should know how to lose focus and reposition in danger. The other player(s) are here to take advantage of unaware foes,they serve a similar role to the frontline glass but they attack from the back of the foe. When a player is downed stealth finish him or let the glass range AA him. Bait the other team to try to revive him ,rest of the team hide safely while stomp/bait is active .

All in all don’t rush, don’t stall,don’t be obvious you won’t gain anything from those 3 above. The chance of success with a non premade is slim since most ignored the map. It’s all about survival not farming the other team. Your thief spec will depend on role you want to play and how much support(heal,cleansing..) the bait can provide he doesn’t need to do any damage. It also depends on opposite team and again soloquers are usually hard headed good luck.

Soloq addicts/non-premade teams will hate courtyard because they have no idea how to play it,they want quick jills while TDM encourages survival style just give them 2 years they will adapt if they don’t want to carry a bad reputation. A team prepared for it is fine got to remember soloquers it’s not 1v1 team play will always win vs duel lovers . I just feel like they implemented the team aspect the hard way.

Courtyard is fun as long your team knows what to do not just you(which most soloquers teams don’t know how) if the opposite team doesn’t you will win. Learn and adapt if you even think you’re decent and embrace the team balance.

Did I forgot to mention why premade doesn’t have those issues? Hint: they don’t try to dive blind in the traffic.

If you keep jumping in get rolled over. You and your tean chose it if anyone think courtyard is zerg fest it was a choice of players. Even wvw has roaming/squad aspect because the players chose it they weren’t forced into it.

To all those complaining of zerg you were part of it as well you made it happen. The center is not the only fighting zone the map is big enough ,you just don’t want to explore it and just want to roll over people. Hope it doesn’t take you 2 years to adapt or are you waiting for someone to become famous with TDM meta that you want to abuse. You should worry about bugs courtyard is survival not a traffic road.

That’s the main thing I am for, pvp only players have add a biased mindset due to addiction to conquest and spreaded it in the other modes,forums and balance. The best ones will adapt the rest will hang on or fall.

I don’t see them separating unless they add more TDM maps or favorite builds icons. The map has areas that people don’t bother to use or kite instead both teams clash and then complain zerg.. Give them a few weeks (months for those not familiar with wvw roaming)they will have to adapt their specs and strategies then you’ll differentiate bad from good teams a new pvp meta will create it self and some specs won’t be held back.

Let it play it self as they fix the bugs maybe it will take another 2 years for pvp only players to come up with a meta.

more maps, bigger maps, let’s do 10vs10 or 15vs15 !

Not so sure about that , I would let the new system sync and slowly adapt with the community I can’t see +5v5 matches seriously with the matchmaking and soloq lovers unless it is limited to guild members (GvG). I do see players react wrongly to TDM style and jump in then complain of being rolled over, you should see it as survival not hunting fest.

With time a new meta will form but they need to let us switch specs while waiting for match or add that favorite build button that is very much needed. I worry of how they will keep balancing classes and the existing flaws of some.

I heard everyone was leaving this game to play Archeage. It must be true. I read it on the forums.

I know both my sons stopped playing already and requested refunds. lol

Black Desert will be even better … and Lineage 3 will beat them all .. at least before
Aion 2 … and of course every other asian game with open PvP, since they always
have been the most successful games in the west ^^

Have you heard of Lost Ark? Lineage Eternal,B&S and those other mmos have nothing on that. Watch the 9 and 20 minutes trailers I could care less if they mistook it for a real Diablo 3. The game is planning worldwide release, that and GW2 are my top mmos.

Black Desert looks a little stiff and chunky but it’s still in beta so it might change.

Hopefully the introduction of this map in more than hotjoin will make it noticeable, a mechanism will always be capable to abuse the mode look at decap specs,turrets,bunkers in Conquest. Capture the Flag will be abused by warrior mobile sets,thief…. even more bunkers so would Lord Rush. Stealth in deathmatch is not much concern as long as they keep it 5v5.

Well it is not always the boon removal there is something else,if p/d thief,condi guard(yes) and condition shatter with no boon removal can deal them(whatever with conquest meta specs). If boon removal is to be more common spread it don’t say:" give thief this(do they need more than others?) , I want my mesmer to have this",just don’t with favoritism . One viable spec on every class should be counter to boons if you don’t spec to counter be countered just like with conditions and no cleansing. Does it have to be conquest reliable?…..not necessarily.

Instead of nerfing it’s time to fill the holes in every class.

Edit: Please zerker and rampager amulets to proper stats AKA no vitality , there is a reason they are becoming inferior.

The buff of boon removal is long waited one as well,only some specs(melee) feel the strenght of celestial ele, it works so well due to the attunements nature. I still fail to understand what’s OP other than partially Drake’s Breath and Lightning Whip , if the traits are dedicated to sustain yes they should feel tanky but they are well telegraphed and predictable. I really feel like most people just go head on"like a fresh air ele or some thieves" forgetting to save their burst or cc.

I can’t take my self seriously if I die to one unless I get outplayed. I feel more threat from engi grenades at melee but I hope boon removal overall is not forgotten.

Only carrion(conquest) and dire(wvw) works. No class can make good use of it it counters the nature of conditions, rampager is far better for on proc effects but not suited for guard. Not even viable in pve due to design.

Hm, let me think. Thief p/d is a 100% dire build, and any melee attack is easily negated by a backward shadowstep. Getting in close only means standing in their caltrops, and their steal is traited to daze. You can outrange the thief, but I don’t think you could focus enough damage. Clone death traits could work, but you can’t always respec for fights in WvW. Short of asking a friend to gank the thief with you, I can’t think of any tactics right now.

Honestly, I would say don’t even bother. On paper, there isn’t a viable way to beat dire condi p/d. It’s the cheesiest build, and will give out heartburns.

On the other hand, this is a build designed to wittle away health. Even if it can be bursty, it’s slower compared to other thief builds. You do have that to your advantage. You could go yolo and try to burst them down, while timing a daze on their heals or CnD, although that would be quite difficult to accomplish.

You may not kill him but he shouldn’t kill you either,condition shatter is the best thing that has a chance of a kill, toughness ignored+inferior cleansing+burn,confusion,torment+easiness to negate sneak attack+high cleansing uptime(mantra)+= you can win.

Trap p/d is more aggressive and will have more burst and evades but still has the same weaknesses. Don’t die vs him let him try to kill you,you can still deal with power thieves too.

I disagree with Glock’s assessment here, DP thief is actually pretty good at 1v1. As for your list there’s not that much that I can actually put into words. Really it’s all about actually practicing vs these opponents, there isn’t some magic strategy to beat engis or something that I can tell you other than “interrupt the heal” which is probably impossible for you to execute anyway. Play more bro. Also watch Caed’s stream I guess.

If you disagree with me that means D/P thieves push far and 1v1 off point all day to win games? Hmmm

no, because stealth can not cap point, in fact thieves has better chance of winning against dd ele then most of the classes.

in a no objectif scenario, you can just keep disengage till you land a perfect ice spike and ele will be dead.

but its not practical in real tpvp.

Plenty of specs would be used if it wasn’t only conquest and some would feel less countered/inferior to others. As long as you’re not p/p or s/p you pretty much shouldn’t lose vs a cele ele as thief 1v1 even in team good players knows to save their burst.

Like I said before learn for yourself you will have to change some aspects if you plan on doing duels only,no spec is immune to weaknesses in duels.

1,2,3,5 seems fine but I still don’t see why celestial or might nerf. Did you forget about other classes? If a side build is affected too much the build can be compensated in other areas you can’t do that with might or celestial. I still believe only melee zerkers struggle against it about that please restore zerker and rampager amulets to proper stats and gives us back jewels. Zerker is becoming inferior for a reason.

This got old. If you are still struggling rethink your way of fighting or just ask for advice on how to fight them. If the brand new condition shatter can own them what is your spec? Taking a guess it’s zerker.

Speaking of balance please remove the vitality from zerk and rampager amulets. People are wondering why soldier hambow can do more damage than zerk one….I guess the community forgot a part of their damage is replaced with some HP.

Condition mesmer is your mesmer death clone and especially shatter,negate the sneak attack there is not much to dodge anyway. He won’t kill you but you may not kill him.

Please say spec not class and if you are talking duels then it most likely you will find non conquest meta builds so most common pvp specs could be last on the list . Fight them and learn for yourself you will change something believe me might even go d/d.

The OP mentioned thief using those runes only p/d condi does and doesn’t like condition application while stealth without getting revealed not direct but only p/d does that even tough it’s ineffective. I am not saying he wants a thief nerf just stating his logic on a general point of view aka all conditions and alike runes . He didn’t directly mentioned(not criticized) the spec just 100% proof that it is.

I used the runes before switching to trap runes,if they add a critable attack to it put it on all runes nightmare,perplexity and alike. Would like it on Balthazar Runes it goes well with the burn^^ might be interesting for tormenting and perplexity runes as well shatter condition mesmer syncs well.

The op is talking about the kittened design of stealth in this game not a single stack of bleed/poison/torment. It is pretty stupid the thief can activate and actually land the 6th bonus of these runes while in stealth and not be revealed. It is the same complaint that housed the changed for the shortbow poison cloud. A Thief in no way should be able to stack a condition on a target in stealth and stay in stealth.

Some traps,Caltrops,SR,Black Powder,Smoke Screen,traits,and a steal with no mug can do it….this is not about stealth it’s a p/d QQ thread . Even I found rangers with that rune+entagle strong it’s in no way broken..following logic nighmare,balthazar,perplexity,orr…..runes should do damage on their on proc conditions…how do I use a stealth skill and revealed at the same time?? Why should I be punished for dodging in SR when I traited Uncatchble…oh wait SR will reveal me!!!

Damage output is what kills mobs there is only viable source of damage in pve: direct, those propositions about toughness scaling and whatnot doesn’t solve kitten. Damage kills until conditions are effective “the zerker meta” is to stay a guard(or venom share thief )could roll nomad AH and be a bait and support and not hold back but you only need 1 of them rest is pure glass no need for any other gear than zerker.

Sure mobs are dumb,some skills scale horrible with healing power but in pve safe damage dominates and we only have one.

I would like to see the separation of amulets and jewels again, the restoration of proper stats on zerker and rampager amulets, conquest favors tanks too much for dire,nomad and others haven’t been tested. Even inferior runes and sigils are not in yet I don’t see sinister available anytime soon.

1) 2×1 and they will die in 10 sec cause of 0 escapes
2) dominate 5×4 other 2 points – easy win

not true their 3s block on 16s cd + perma swiftness + frequen stunbreaks and slick shoes if they run that as well as many skills that make it hurt to follow mean its actually rather hard to 1v2 unless youre playing full burst like mesmer

turret engie has nothing at that list

Carrion guards are actually a legitimate threat. The burns they dish out are insane, on top of the solid power damage they have.

Hybrid guard =/= full condi guard. The only DPS condition a guardian has is burning, and any build that has decent active cleansing can render it near useless.

/Sigh. If you haven’t played against the build or played the build, you won’t know. Even Eles can find condi guards hard to deal with.

The argument is that carrion guard is not really a full condi build and leans more towards hybrid – I have seen some run it with GS which is obv not a condi weapon

6/2/6/0/0 build is the one we are talking about I assume? It uses meditations as well and it is indeed quite strong but I would not really call it a condi build it definitely does decent physical damage

GS is the closest real condition weapon guardian has…you have the sustain to make it work I run s/t sc/fo with doom+purity sigil it works pretty well I owned the conquest thieves (no SA) even s/d ,cele ele and engi. Sometimes I managed to win 2v1 when running AH with might on swap+GS,Shelter is a blessing. We do exists and are capable just not seen much and in need of a little boost.

Carrion does make us a little hybrid it has power…if dire is what you want it work in wvw as well not zergs. We can’t use rabid not enough HP.

Avoid the sigil change some classes are better or weaker at some things then others I need doom sigil for my condi guard,mesmer,thief,war the sigils can add what’s missing it doesn’t have to boost what’s already there. Stuff don’t get removed in gw2 will they compensate?…nope.

Runes for every boon and condition ,perplexity will stay just like strenghg runes. Who choses dhuumfire anymore? They nerfed with no revert of what happen before…Counters exists just because the conquest meta doesn’t want them doesn’t mean the builds have to be nerfed to fit your lacking spec.

Keep it real here. Condition duration exist for all conditions. Can a spec build condi spam? Yes but can a spec build cleansing spam? Yes…deal with it use your conquest meta.

There already is a deathmatch mode in custom arenas, isn’t there?

Is it viable? Did they advertise it? Did they take it seriously? Was it just a filler? Why is it so similar to hotjoin?

Did you create a forum post demanding this map to be in solo arena ? Or any posts about how to improve the map ? Do all of you even lift bros ?

I created no such thread and wouldn’t have it to if it the courtyard was properly introduced,it really feels like a filler. 1v1 arena is sure not to happen but they can maintain conquest as the main mode . They would need add variation of the map first I am waiting on ready up or a survey about the subject unless it’s official forums post seems neglected. This is not new there should be an active thread where we can really discuss this.

We will get new modes soon….

Edit: Yes a few threads there and there exist but the lack of communication between the development of new modes and players is frustrating. Ask for feedback more often mention the progress once in a while.

Please dont theyre so uber cheesy. But if you want the build is 2/0/6/0/6 .. full dire gear with krait runes. Pistol/Dagger.

They are one of the most OP builds in the game and is really easy to play because of high hp/armor/stealth/regen/ranged..

They are only cheesy until they run into someone with allot of condition removal or a necro with condition transfers.
At which point they become utter crap

Any other condition class can beat them I won against a few as condi guard and condi shatter mesmer. Even glass ranger can keep backstepping and cc (not in conquest) , actually almost every decent build shouldnt’die vs it you can negate both CnD and sneak attack what else is there to dodge?

They call it cheese because of the escape factor and perplexity runes not even dire. Easy or not, pure it is not cheese like. Trap condi p/d is more entertaining.

How to deal with thieves?

Condition Mesmers shouldn’t have any problems with thieves. You typically should have enough toughness to be aggressive. Clone-death traits kill thieves. So does torment.

Emphasize on shatter condition, torment,confusion and burn is a deadly mix especially to the conquest thieves(no SA) even s/d.
