I don’t want to kill the brainstorming….. but, there are no new weapon types being added in Heart of Thorns. Though, specializations will allow professions to use existing weapon types which they currently cannot use.

No new weapons? Oh so disappointing
Thanks god a new game called Black desert is near…and when it will be out…I suggest you for gw2 sake to add more things and weapons ^^

I can’t stop laughing at this, it failed and is p2w,it already started acting like C9 and Vindictus,great at start then a down hill race it was better in CBT2 OBT killed it but nah some are like:“Pretty graphics, pretty classes give me give me”.

Check forums,reviews and rank in Korea. Many would say GW2 offers a bigger challenge lol only hope is if NA/EU gets different server version then Korea. If not C9 all over again.

Mm lol it’s already p2w and ruined lol. Being an old C9 player and fan of Vindictus, they are making the same mistakes and reducing pvp potential. C9>Vind.>BDO and C9 was their first mmo, I’m waiting for other games imo .

Even if the npcs succeed unarmed and stealthed as soon as they attack you can see them. If you are worried about buff of heroes ranged builds exist, most of those might actually not be UP like in conquest , npcs are not braindead as well.

Conquest limited a lot of builds I don’t mind an increase or change in diversity, this is going to turn like turrets in conquest they are favored but you can outplay and beat them if you are working in team.

What sane argument can anyone make to support self speced healing not to work in DS? Self speced healing in DS and team sustain are two different issues, 1 being a fault in the system the other a fault in the supposed team focused balance. I have seen venom share thieves with better sustain.

If you hate turret engis so much, play a class that destroys turret engi like staff ele, power ranger, condi ranger or power necro.

I don’t even know how to respond to someone suggesting we should all play staff ele to counter a single build.

As long as you are not melee power glass canon zerker you stand a chance lol, sry most pvpers . It has plenty of counters,staff ele is just the best but we have to worry about other specs as well.

With the shield I imagine it will be a more defensive playstyle that mesmers get.

I hope ANet make the shield skills as a whole to be a direct counter to thieves.

Ever tried a non glass spec? Long fights usually lead to thief losing you know ,at least the glass ones.

Why it is all about pve and not some pvp and wvw? I seriously dislike the pve only focus of specializations and I hear druid healer doesn’t even come to mind, I think AoE bleed,cc,boons and AI seeds.

the only PvE focus of specializations is in the discussions, which is how any discussion on skills and meta goes outside the PvP and WvW forums. it’s been confirmed they’ll be playable in all game modes.

I meant by the players not Anet, but until they announced different system for the HoT mobs and pve in general the community doesn’t have to worry about roles, they are aware of what they created.

Thieves are not Assassins, they aren’t Ninja, or Samurai; Kryta and Tyria are very Western influenced locales, therefore, Thieves are Thieves. Get over it.

This thread should emphasize on this paragraph.

I can still see SA with rifle, the idea of Acro remaining is just awkward hughh an evading rifle wielder just hughh if lighter duel pistols didn’t get it I can’t see it with rifle. To position himself and create opportunities I can see it with SA. I still think they should create one line and few utilities for it and lock everything before just to balance it, Acro is out of place.

Lock of all other skills and traits,so the new ones only focus on the specialisation hopefully inspired from Critical Strikes, traits and skills with variation like IP in a CS, AoE impact on bullet hit,protection specific boon removal.. Meh we’ll see I’m aware I am aiming too high.

I’m hoping there’d be at least 5 specialization per class.
Look @ the current Trait lines for elem for example:

Pyromancer, Aeromancer, Hydromancer, Geomancer and Arcanist.

Lol, it’s just gonna be a sidegrade not an upgrade. The Druid-ranger
probably came from the nature magic trait line. Makes sense.

Was hoping for the same too 5 based on trait line but if it really just replaces one line for a new one I’m disappointed. I already don’t trust their conquest focus balance, so many negatives are foreshadowing hope the demo proves us wrong.

I’m losing hype it feels like it’s just going to be another version of what we have now with same issues. The whole replace a trait line just saddens me meh I’ll be looking what their group content really is and maybe try SH mode, specialiation was the main system I was looking for. Masteries to me sounds like just getting pve upgrades instead of increasing spec variety and requirements, basically our current concern.

Just meh hope they take feedback in their demo.

if you’re talking about duels, then that means nothing because we don’t have official dueling servers and you can always run away if you feel overwhelmed.

in any game or anything, certain builds\classes\strategies will beat certain builds\classes\strategies. You just have to deal with it.

Are you saying all patches were unnecessary and we need to revert back to beta?

most of these “balancing” patches were actually fixing existing skills that wasn’t functioning the way they should, or give some skills more usability because no one is using them and anet wants people to use different builds.

And in some cases some skills were very powerful and needed a nerf.

Even these classes with some OP skills can easily lose to other classes that counters them.

How is turning out so far? I don’t see people running around with corrupt necro due to celes despite necro countering engi, they cry nerf then patch just happen now we got eles saying they nerf the set instead of real issue. The balance routine is not frequent or accurate enough. There is always the “if you like it just play it” but no ones like it.

I’m only proposing to connect each specialisation with a specific playstyle and aspects based on it. No stats not going with this,no filler trait, no I must relly on this or that. I am aware of class weakness but I rather win due to skill rather than spec , it may impossible but I hope one day an mmo has real pvp and not class vs class.

I’m definitely more interested in what the specializations will address for each class. Necros are so weak in PVE, that I’m sure the greatsword will bring PVE viability. Druids having staff is what, perhaps AOE? I’m more interested in what weaknesses they may address.

I’m thinking both pve and pvp but I share the same need that they should fill weaknessess at least the first ones, that’s why I don’t believe in LB support guard. Druid is either AoE condi+CC or AoE boons+CC or both.

When making the specialisation please lock other traits and skill for the sake balance, do not just replace a trait line with another or it will have same balance issues we currently have. Since we can swap out of combat in between it wouldn’t have negative effects.

Balance in GW2 is unfixable due to the number of choices,don’t make same mistake. Traits and skills are avoided or abused because of it,classes are held back, more than 2 years of it and now a solution has arrived don’t mess up,lock them. It will bring profit and health to the game, just telling you in advance . Once in a life chance, I am not a veteran but I don’t to endure the current state of balance.

My problem with focusing on one attunement is, how would this playstyle be different? Zephyrite wouldn’t be a bad idea because then the class could focus more on mobility and positioning. I guess one element could instead focus on bursting, but a zerker ele is already very squishy, especially in pve alone.

Other than water and arcane,other trait lines lack sustain due to the fact that we had 4 elements to fall back on,reason why ele is a celestial class. With only 1 element we should find better sustain through the new traits and utilities. I’m really hoping they lock all previous skills and traits so it can balanced please do so. The balance here is shaking because we can’t control what each spec has.

Only thing I can think of for ele specialisation are Djinn’s – actually becoming some sort of elemental.

I can’t possibly think of something that’s a branch off of an elementalist.

Ele has it easy way fire,water,air,earth,arcane mage. Try to relate to trait lines our playstyle is based on them anyway.

Unbelievable no I want them to get change DS and I recognize that DS and the mobs are the cause of the current situation since the extra sustain is not helpful in most of pve and why our healing is low. I only stated facts about the melee condi. And again do you see ele with big chunk of HP and an extra big chunk of HP?? No so they fit the system better through offensive sustain even in heals.

Unlike some I think both pvp and pve we have no idea what is the pve like in HoT thinking of experience like Silverwastes or Dry Top.

Adding something we don’t already have would be closer to a melee condition weapon rather than power cleave which it seems they want daggers to fill as well as siphon…

DS holds necro in many ways but in pve it’s mobs and requirements issues not DS need to improve and add variety to those.

I wouldn’t really consider 2 targets to be a cleave weapon.

Want to fill,adding Life Blast piercing and DS being power focused makes it hard for me to believe it’s pure dps. Even if it was I believe in more CC or condition sustain aka chill,weakness but it depends on new mechanism and mobs. Melee condition is missing tough unlike thief necro can afford to stay at melee even glass speced.

Marjory can already be seen using the greatsword as a power melee weapon, so a melee condi isn’t likely this expansion. Plus, I would much rather they fix PvE conditions before they add another condition weapon.

Mmm lol I really need to see those we don’t necros groups or just want to get chosen with no regard to skill, I just explained why the dps feels low and how to fix it for the GS. Tell me do you see them giving AoE power damage on war with extra HP??? Unless they give necro ele or guardian like HP with no DS it’s not going to happen with full dps GS. If you don’t get that no one can help you.

Why do raids have to be instanced?!!! The same issues will still happen and mandatory “traditional” trinity is a no no especially since specialisations are supposed to add what we don’t already have. Improve the mobs is must like Silverwastes and conditions go through armor enough power favoritism.

Raids need to be Instanced for the same reason fractals and Dungeons are.

It’s to create a controlled environment for PvE content, without uncontrolled inputs such as popular numbers in open world.

I don’t believe GW2 follows your logic. Just bring your usual squad/guild, bosses don’t really change based on numbers I see instanced as more videos to show speed runs. When I hear GW2 I think open community and group I just don’t see them going instanced way based on what they are aiming at. Dungeons and Fractals have a cinematic/lore aspect but we will see.

what bothers me about warriors using pistols is, why? and what does it do? The warrior is this non magic heavily armored fighter with weapons centered around the theme of power/strength. The pistol just doesn’t quite fit in, which also leads me to wonder completely, what kind of specialization is warrior going to have.
I actually don’t think torch is a bad option, considering many barbarians in fantasy novels, which is still just stab with it, and throw it.

Well they do use rifles which is pretty much a larger pistol in GW2 universe.

But I still don’t want that for specialization. I want something that makes the class feel unique from Warriors. Like Rangers and Druids are unique to each other.

I don’t want to be a Rytlock warrior. I don’t.
I want to be a unique heavy fighter. Warriors are already physical defensive fighters. Why not a magical defensive fighter?

Guardian and Revenant fill those roles, pistol is strenght based aka fire power you forgot we have fire blasting LB,rifle? Ranger Nature Magic,spirits… can easily relate to druid even Entangle,Muddy Terrain… if it’s CC based. OH pistol is the most likely weapon so far.

In regard to weapons, what worries me most is the warrior. If we analyze the situation, the weapons that are available, just do not fit with the profession. For example:

  • Warrior with daggers: boring
  • Warrior with torch: to burn things in the jungle?…meh
  • Warrior with staff, scepter or focus: wtf?
  • Warrior with short bow: we have long bow.
  • Warrior with trident: well…if there is no alternative…

Huh?? We’ve had AoE bunker,turrets,AoE celestial taking advantage of conquest, CC in skyhammer,leaps in SW… there will always be something stronger in a mode. Disabling stealth will hurt more than thieves lol, how should we backstab anyway?

Then different queues for them,if they are implemented right aka with a specific kitten nal there will be a soft balance that is not at normal profession level. Their balance patches are not frequent enough and are usually unsatisfying and the number of variation doesn’t help.

It’s good business move for them competitive players will want to buy it for balance without losing their preferred playstyle,just 1 for now but 5 would take them far and beyond. Sure it’s like leaving the others professions out but I expect balance patches to still happen.

In my opinion, if they’re going to give us a bow (I prefer LB), it must be a DPS weapon, we already have the staff for support/utility.

You forgot condition people have been asking for it was well. Most dps wanted better CC not range and scepter is dps.

The new specialization for Warrior will be the “Dragoon”

They will wield Land Spears/Pole-arms. They are specially trained
Dragon slayers created to counter Tyria’s very obvious “Dragon Problem”
The Warrior realized that brute strength alone wont be enough to
effectively slay dragons. So they decided to concentrate on their mobility,
reach, and accuracy to eliminate the Dragon threat with precise strikes to
their vital points using specialized Land Spears.

The Dragoon will be able to maneuver around the battle field with speed and
grace to confuse their foes. Then at precisely the right time, they will strike a
vital point with their long spears with remarkable accuracy.

They will be fierce and Beautiful!

No new weapons just weapons not previously usable by that profession.

I don’t expect the Guardian specialisation to appeal that much to me, because the whole point is to change its playstyle and I like it the way it is.

The most obvious contender is a condi-spec, probably at range. So my prediction is the Avenger, wielding a longbow that inflicts Torment and possibly an AoE burning attack. New slot skills and profession mechanic is a little harder to guess…

LB+condition…. count me in I will definitely would play that over current condition guard build if they do it right.

Dagger MH and sword OH is bad look,no new weapons just a staff with polearm skin. Spears are UW weapons don’t forget about skins people.

In the pre Pax trailer clearly they fighting with land spears, and why would Anet use a single Spear like skin on a staff for the Revenant reveal?

Technically the Spear on land isn’t a new weapon just a water weapon used differently..

Like GreatSwords are magic ranged weapons for Mesmer, but is a Melee weapon for Guardians and Warriors.

So Spears could be a water weapon for some classes and a land weapon for Warriors.

Exactly GS can do both magic or physical,staff can be caster or melee, waiting for that OH pistol and the weapon has to be used by at least 2 classes so no favorism for warrior. It’s not like we don’t have skins that throw off the weapon type.
