There’s no definite proof of match manipulation in that way so, it just wont get reported unless there’s substantial evidence…. but such evidence revolves around the user admitting it in actual in-game chat =/

Keep the kitten build measuring for Ranked games gentlemen

One thing for certain, DH build diversity is one of the best in this game. Players have 3 possible ways to play Guardian to some level of effectiveness and i’m not talking about just Bronze tier play. I hit Plat with burn guardian last season. For some that’s enough.

PvP Feels Utterly Broken For Necros

Who here watch the EU Unity Tournament and witnessed a Necro respawn, only to get ganked by a Thief/Mes before he could get to the point? Any other class would have made it to the nearest node at the very least.

Necro’s are in an awkward spot, somewhere between Hit and Miss.

I can kill mesmer, thief, AND DH. Any build.

I can generally 1v1 against them and not die, i can hold point myself against them just fine….

Again, Power DH i have no trouble with either with 100% cooldowns on each side.

Wanna duel me for science? Haven’t power LB meta since the beginning of last season but pretty confident I’ll win. You won’t beat symbolic Mara but I can duel you on that too :p

The build shouldn’t beat a power LB DH. The build definitely doesn’t beat symbolic power with cleanse on block.

I remember playing with you in unrank. If you like to duel me sometime hit me up.

It cant kill a symbolic but symbolics are useless and can only run or 1v1.

I can’t help but beg to differ. My build performs tremendously well in skirmish mid fights. It can play any role except the 1v2 bunker role Menders Symbolic has on side points.

If someone just ignores you and goes for your team, as a symbolic you just don’t have the damage to really pressure anyone.. If you’re running marauder ammy or something, you die much much easier than a mender’s symbolic, and you cant really 1v2 anymore.

Maybe 1v1 , but again, if I just walk away from you and ignore you its useless because your damage just isn’t high enough as symbolic.

As power DH, it’s still fairly good, but burn guard using his virtues and elite at the same time as the power DH will win against power DH as long as I don’t stand on you and take unnecessary power damage.

Whenever it’s a burn guard at 100% with full cooldowns vs power dh with the same, the burn DH will win. If it’s a symbolic, i just dont fight and instead lead them to a team fight where I can wipe them with AoE burn.

Though I agree on some points, most are invalid in high tier play like the upcoming Unity tournament. Burn DH can perform exceptionally well in the right hands but 2 classes down right counters it on point and that’s Mes+Thief and/or DH. The build simply lacks Stability and Stunbreakers. Heck, a good thief alone can +1 100/0 the burn guard if his CoP/Judges/X Stunbreakers is on CD. It’s why I run SYG over SC.

In casual Ranked, that’s a different convo entirely. The burn build can out right 1v2 Rangers/Engi’s on point. The common player are not at the “ESL” level so you have a higher chance to 1vX classes as well. You’ll just have to be careful of double DH and double Thief comps up to Platinum rank.

The LB power meta should beat a burn DH. If one doesn’t then he’s not accustomed to fighting a burn DH/Core Guard.

My Marauder build does exceptionally well in team fights. I will not die to your burns unless I exhausted my cleanses or the fight is uneven.

One other thing I will agree with, these three builds are probably the most optimal ones DH has. If I see stacked Rangers/Engi, I’m running Burn DH.

I play all classes. I switch often and do pvp dailies.

For my thief as exemple, I play 3 differents builds for the 3 game’s modes :
- Double pistol in WvW
- Dagger/pistol in pve
- Pistol/dagger in pvp with condi build.

Last time i left the game after a wvw session. I log back today and push the pvp button. And during the time wait I check things in my house. Obviously I was with dual pistol with my condi build…

It would be so simple to put a build and weapon saver… Anet don’t care maybe but I would not have lost my time and 4 other people’s time with this.

they’ve been working on one since launch, but never managed to get it working… the pre-set builds they introduced in pvp were thought by many to be a pre-cursor to build templates but so far nothing has been announced

apparently with the way things are setup in the game it’s not nearly as simple as you think it is to do so

We heard that before; that “lack of tech” is not an excuse. There’s no rhyme or reason as to why we don’t have it yet. The pre-builds they put in place isn’t even a meta build…

Hunter’s Determination is a garbage trait to use. A random proc with 75 sec cd? Any of the alternatives is better.

Any trait that can proc and prevent a down by denying a burst CC, is a darn good trait.

Any trait that promotes passive play should be discouraged, and any trait with random passive activation which so long cooldown deserves to be discarded.

For the people which likes that kind of gameplay I would fervently suggest to play the Warrior (which is rich in passive procs, way more powerful and with smaller cooldowns).

We all agree with you that HoT brought a lot of passive play but that’s not going to prevent players from using optimal builds.

2v2s are coming?

But let’s see how things will work, probably 2v2 will die on the custom arenas, it’s expected to be this way.

They made a “2v2 map”. This just tells me it’s a smaller version of Courtyard so… if they don’t make any tools to add in-game functions to make it a legit 2v2 custom arena then it’s going to be as popular as it is presently… not popular.

I truly hope they actually add map timers, round-robin, two stomp wins, winner stays till next round, etc etc. These are the tools; certain in-game specific rules, that players would like to incorporate for a solid 2v2 custom arena. Not Just a smaller Courtyard map.

Of course Anet could throw a curve ball at us and say, “There will now be 2v2 queuing during off Season.” /crossesfingers

A Stronghold Rework?

Stronghold is the last thing in the world they should spend dev time at. It’s a failed attempt at copying mobas for an MMO.

Stronghold is PvP for PvE players. PvE players are better off with pure PvE content and PvP players benefit more from new maps and PvP gamemodes. Stronghold has no target audience, or at least not more than a few dozen players.

I’m not sure if I agree. Unless you are saying mobas are for pve audiences?

Anywho, I too agree with the above posters. Stronghold isn’t worth Dev time…being… I don’t want a whole year of 0 SPvP content just because they’re working on Stronghold. That’s exactly what will happen. The game mode will just have to wait till the next expansion.

As for suggestions, why not make it more like a Moba? I’d like to earn trait points and create my build throughout the game mode within a period of 15-20minutes.

Yea I dislike Moba games as well. Only thing I can get into is Paragon but even still, the genre just isn’t fun for me. But millions of other people absolutely love the genre so I force myself to like it too lol.

2v2 Game Mode Rule idea

This kinda came to me after playing a certain game wink.

What if, the 2v2 deathmatch custom arena incorporated a mini “Conquest” area that randomly spawned over the course of the game. Except the “Conquest” circle area isn’t a capture point. It’s a safe zone. If you’re not in the circle’s safe zone you’ll eventually take damage. Enough damage to make you care about positioning.

The reason the circle is even in play is so that perma stealth classes like double Thief/Mesmer combos don’t perma stealth. That and there’s strategies to be made to force players out of the circle if you wish to fight near its edge.

I imagine the circle being as big as Foefire’s middle so that classes like Mesmers can still kite within the barriers.

But in deathmatch (unless they somehow force roles upon certain classes & builds & make us queue as one of those roles) people won’t do that. It’s all about not dying not to lose. I can see teams like ele, druid & bunker guard being unkillable because of the crazy amounts of healing & damage reduction.

To prevent that Anet should rebalance the healing capabilities of pretty much every class so a team with full on healing & defensive builds & classes won’t last vs a team with high damage.

I wouldn’t underestimate the cc and burst potential of 2 classes. Go ahead and run your 100% bunker comp. You’ll find out real quick that you’ll need to run around the map more than actually engaging the other team.

WoW 2v2 already “solved” the sustain issue. The lowest health teamed player throughout the round will lose once the time limit expires. GW2 can take it a whole lot further than just looking at a team’s average health when a match stalemates by incorporating downed state rules.

[PvP] Symbolic Zealer Burst build

Updating the build. Swapped out Smite Condition for Test of Faith for a lot of obvious reasons. Having two Smite Conditions is nice but ToF simply does 3x the burst damage on point especially when utilizing Shield and F1. This makes the build not just a good assaulter/defender but an even better mid fighter in skirmishes.

I also swapped my Sw/Focus – Scep/Shield to Sw/Shield Scep/Focus. I’m using sword blink + ToF + Shield#5. If my knockback gets nullified I can melee inside ToF. This is mainly a play style specific change evolved around ToF.

Burn Guardian SPVP

You sure that DH is better than Radiance? You’re not even using the healing trap.

This was talked about last season but I think a lot of players missed some convo posts and are returning to the game.

Zeal is actually better than Radiance in terms of raw burn damage output thanks to the trait Kindled Zeal. I forgot the numbers but it’s something like 12 might stacks does more burn damage than Amplified Wrath. You’ll be well over that if you take Zealous Scepter trait line.

As for DH over Zeal, the entire purpose for burn Guards taking DH is the cover condition traits: Dulled Senses and Zealot’s Aggression. A non-cleansed 5 burn stack in a period of 3 seconds makes up for any other burn stack cleansed by running core Guard. Your damage throughout a fight will increase by taking DH.

Any dps loss by not taking Zeal is instantly gained back through sustain gains by improved F2/F3 and Hunter’s Fortification (cleanse on block).

Litany of Wrath over Purification because,

  • Lower CD heal
  • Instant cast. With little stability in the build we can’t afford to get interrupted.
  • Potentially a greater heal when applying burns in a group.

Speaking of stability or lack-there-of, OP, consider using SYG over Smite Condition. It’ll give you another stunbreaker as well as AoE Stability.

Basically the build I used all through last season except it was Deadshot with Earth/Torment sigs. The patch destroyed that build so now we gotta use Carrion.

May not run burn DH this season though. Been having fun with my symbolic zeal burst build.

Can someone tell me what those new annoying notes that play throughout a whole match are supposed to indicate?

I just played my first match in weeks, and it was driving me crazy…

It indicates you’re capping the point because some people don’t realize they’re capping or decapping a point. So they added sounds to tell you whether or not you’re capping or decapping a point rather than physically looking at the screen to see if you’re capping or decapping a point.

Spirit weapons ideas

Glue the spirit Hammer to the left waist of the Guardian.
Glue the spirit Sword to the right waist of the Guardian.
Glue the spirit shield to the back of the Guardian.

They hit in melee range with the exception of Shield able to fly out to damage and land aegis; as well as, hammer having a longer range to wack people. They no longer chase.

2v2 on unranked queue

It’s more simple than that. GW2 doesn’t look at the 1001 items combined from each and every class. It just needs to look at the current one or two effective builds each and every class has for a start of reference.

Anet gets just as much data from the very small ESL scene (r.i.p) as they do from the huge public data pool made up of thousands of casual players in the seasonal League. They can power up or power down the effectiveness of certain items while also taking into account other offensive or defensive items in that category. But again, it’s really only the 1 or 2 most used builds per class.

Right now GW2 has been balancing around 5v5/10v10/20v20+ since the launch of the game. I agree with you that if they prioritize to just 1 game mode, balance would naturally be better but that’s an unrealistic demand. I’m still overall impressed that the balance is as good as it is. It’s the #2 reason why I’ve been playing as long as I have. #1 reason is the lack of monthly fees :)

So… I read this thread paying no mind to what it meant. All the while I was closing my Discord, pausing my music player app, just looking for the trace of this weird pinging sound… imagine my surprise!

It’s like, some one telling you the ATM is giving you money when the machine is literally feeding money into your hand… yea.. we know it’s happening.

PLEASE add an off/on button for this incredibly annoying sound.

It’s definitely a change of pace considering we’ve had symbolic bunker builds for a few seasons. I don’t think I’ll be going back to a Menders Honor build, partially because I don’t fancy that play style anymore (I never really was a bunker guard at heart).

I’m preferring a more “burst” approach as oppose to a straight forward side-node bunker build.

I’m more frustrated with F1’s inability to turn your character to throw… instead we have to literally face our camera/character towards the player we’re looking at. Even then if we’re not facing them directly, even though our screen shows they’re right in front of us, F1 goes on CD…. because it didn’t register.. because they apparently weren’t right in front of us..

Ranger vs Guardian tough fight ?

This is probably best answered on the Ranger forums but as a burn DH, I don’t lose to Rangers

The better Rangers (don’t know the build) kite like crazy, stealth like crazy, and sustains himself the best he can while the pet does most of the work. The ranger will occasionally try to pull off rapid fire, knockbacks and sometimes root.

Never stand near your pet when he’s getting hit with symbols, damage, etc. Permeating Wrath’s damages multiplies when there’s more people within a 240 radius of each other for the Guard to damage.

Only aspect I see it having a moderate effect in is WvW. Every Guard and 5 other players will now have permanent swiftness. I don’t see Anet letting that happen, especially when we have speed runes.

Aegis has priority block over Protector’s Strike. So we’ll be lucky to pull off 2 Aegis proc applications.

On average, we’ll pull off only 1 aoe aegis on every Protector’s Strike usage.

If there’s multiple hits, removing our aegis to hit PS and apply multiple Aegis applications, an Ally’s aegis doesn’t stack so it would look as if he only had 1 Aegis. He would need to be near the Guard taking numerous hits at once, for numerous Aegis to get reapplied.

This is a similar placebo affect Defender’s Dogma has with Permeating Wrath. A hit after a block to proc a F1 activation does no good if my F1 (3 hit) charge is already full. I’d have to apply numerous hits while also get hit numerous times to notice the increased burn stacks.

Learn to read people it’s: “Structured PvP will also be updated with a custom arena map for 2v2 battles…”, means a custom arena “map” for 2v2 battles, not the custom arena we know.

This is what we read when you put SPvP and 2v2 Battles in the same sentence. It means we’re getting 2v2 Battles in Unranked Queue. Anything less and we’ll all rage at once.


You can’t say Anet is adding a map designed for 2v2 without adding a 2v2 game mode in some shape or form. Even a Hotjoin 2v2 game mode is fine, for now. A lot of players will be disappointed if it’s just a plain custom arena map.

As for classes we have: Ele/Necro/DH
Our Ranger can potentially multiclass for Engi/Rev/Thief.

@StickerHappy – I messaged you in game bro let me know if you didn’t get it. We could use your ranger skillz depending on how well our current Ranger can multiclass to the other three listed.

We could very well use an experienced Mesmer to complete the comp as well. Still looking for that +1!

Ok, i take the troll bait, because I played WoW a lot and for pvp only. There wasn’t a single pvp season with no terrible pvp balancing in WoW.
Even now it’s just a “don’t try to catch the druid” and wait for the melee to instagib you. That’s why the playerbase is so small.

And for your complaints.
Your team mates in GW2 can cleanse your conditions, you have stun breakers, you can get immune to condition damage. You may start to learn to game before complaining.

And while WoW was dead at birth with their esports idea, GW2 at least had an ESL season. Go figure. (besides: Esports in an MMORPG always was the stupidest of ideas ever)

Also like to add that WoW has 100x the PvE playerbase. This means you’ll have an even Higher PvP population… yet GW2 actually had an ESL season despite the lack of players.

As for your perma CC issue… what class do you play? We can try to help you out if you’re willing to learn.

If it’s custom arenas only then it’s only a test run until more players ask for it in Leagues.

I just hope that it’s done right: add in time limits, rounds, and a “lowest average health loses” like WoW has it.

A better game mode would be good for pvp

Hopefully Anet adds a “capture the flag” map. Unlike conquest, this mode will give tanks, healers and damage dealers a specific role. It will also make players think about different builds and team comps.

This mode is already popular and easy to develop in many pvp games. If we take WoW as an example, we find that the most popular battleground is a 13 year old CTF map (a.k.a Warsong Gulch).

Actually, this isn’t a bad idea.

I imagine the Flag will act just like the Orb on spirit watch.

  • The player with the Flag will basically be mute in team fights, this will technically be a 4v5 all the way to the other side of the map… IF he stays on the flag.
  • Strategy is how well mobile classes gank the flag for their own.

That said you’ll still have snowballs throughout the game mode. But if I had to choose a gamemode to have, it would be a 3v3 TDM mode during League off-season.

This would be a build I’d use if I were going back to LB for sure, good post.

The ugly truth is, LB is tougher to use for the majority player base so most players jump ship to other builds that perform better for them in the lower leagues. The irony is that good LB guards like yourself can still dominate with this build, prioritizing pulls/knockbacks in ToF and Lb#3 CC. That aspect still hasn’t changed a whole lot but the clunkiness of LB is more apparent than ever.

LB vs Symbolic
As for power Symbolic vs Engi/Ranger, I would never engage them on foefire mid but for side points the guard is in favor.

In terms of mid fights, Shattered Aegis (I don’t use Virtues or menders) shouldn’t be underestimated. Just Shield#4 on your own team, Mesmer & clones, Engi & gyro, Ranger & pet, can yield more damage than a ToF combo. The trick is positioning and managing skills like Fragments of Faith.

Though we have in-game strat differences I’d like to fight you or your Engi/Ranger partners on side points or mid fights to determine LB/Symbolic effectiveness. If you’re down.

[PvP] Symbolic Zealer Burst build

Tried the build now, and I love it so far. Has all the same advantages of a marauder symbolic build, but with extra damage. Condi cleanse works fine on it, Litany of Wrath just feels like a better heal than Shelter. Not set on the sigils though, and I changed runes to Lynx so I can get around faster.

Funny you say that because I haven’t really found the perfect runes for this build. It’s the only thing I’m uncertain with.

Right now I’m using Surging Runes for the stun effect proc after the elite Renewed Focus resolves. I notice it helps fairly well in 1v1’s especially vs good Mesmers/Revs/Rangers. People don’t expect the extra CC, it allows me to cast a couple burst skills rather than go directly to Virtues for survival.

Speed runes are good too for the much needed mobility.

The hybrid Rune of the Pack is good for having a little bit of everything.

So I’m just sticking with Surging right now because I tend to prioritize 1v1 effectiveness but I’m sure most would pick speed runes for the build.

Removal of damage sigils (including Earth/Geomancy) was a bigger impact than the removal of sustain sigils.

No one cares more about sustain sigs except for maybe Ele. Even then, they’re fine on a good Nec comp where aoe damages and Nec support matter a bit more than an Ele self sustaining himself.

Those sigils gave my bunker dh about another 300-400 hps which is definitely not neglectable.

Air, 700 damage every 3 seconds which is around 250 dps. Fire sigil dps is 100. Add 3 other classes running the sigil, this pushes the threshold to 1200dps with a damage burst of 2500+.

You didn’t lose sustains, you gained it by the removal of damage sigils.
