Rank: Top 250 since Season 2
#5 best gerdien in wurld
Placing retal on other players won’t show damage done in your logs but it will show damage done on theirs.
I can’t speak for wvw but in sPvP when some one hits you with Whirling Wrath (7 hits + 5 projectile hits). that person will receive 12 hits of retaliation.
I haven’t noticed retaliation not damage some one when I have the buff activated unless that player has invulnerability. Then he won’t take retal damage.
OP, you do realize there’s DH in the top 25, one of which is #1 on the leaderboards right? Your argument there is kinda invalid.
Warrior’s face tanking (passives) is fine. They have been that way since launch and is simply something we expect from a Warrior class.
HoT power creep consists of added blocks, unblocks, CC, and Stability. Basically a spec above core spec, arguably the reason why the spec is called “Elite” and the reason why we wanted more build diversity because the spec removed builds. My point is, it’s perfectly fine to say you don’t like a specific item that power creep brought. You can’t say it needs to be removed for “balance” reasons because there are items in placed by other elite specs to make said items balanced.
Your suggestions are not something I’d ask for in the next balance update.
(edited by Saiyan.1704)
If you want to toned down Unblockable skills is ok! pls remove all block skills and passive def skills first.
and evade frames, and dodges, and …
block is a form of damage mitigation that some classes relies hard on it, existing a kittenload of unblockables but no un- evadables or un- dodgeables makes that form of damage mitigation worse than the othersQuiet a few skills stop evades, all Ward effects Like line of warding, Dragons maw, The DH Lb 5, the DH spear of justice pull, the DH GS 5 pull, static fields, static auras . All interrupt in the middle of evades. Funny how that works right?
Ho! too many DH! But it would be fine, because DH always FINE!
A bias argument.
No competitive DH uses Staff and/or Dragon Maw.
Spear of Justice still has to land.
We don’t have static fields/auras that interrupt a teef.
Only thing you got right is LB#5 but what kind of bad thief gets caught in that??
Other class’s threads like Ele said they were getting mantras and axe as well… So, i’m curious exactly which class is really getting axe and mantras.
Peculiar..
what killed pvp is bright and clear its the poor combat system.
if people dont enjoy something they will stop doing it,
by the way the games selling point is pve and armor skins now so i dont expect them to give much attention to pvp and i dont blame them they are a company and companies want profit.
Choose any mmorpg like GW2 and you’ll quickly see that these game’s PvE is its #1 selling point. These game’s were made with PvP being a by-product of a PvE built game.
GW2 is known for its combat system. In fact, it has been appraised by so many game critics. Players in general like it.
This is the burning guardian build i’m currently running
-Sage’s Amulet for more sustain and to have some power to use the fury acquired via Monk’s Focus
-Rune of the Guardian to inflict burning while shelter-tanking dangerous moves like Rapid Fire, Soul Spiral.. while preventing condition transferBest 1vs1 combo:
After a successful Shield of Assorbition Knockback, better if in purging flames, swap to Scepter/Torch and then use Virtue of Justice + Zealot’s Flame/Fire + Judge’s Interventionnow this looks like a proper burn build, not like the op weird build.
With all due respect, that build doesn’t bring anything to the table that the DH burn build can’t do. Even with Sage he’ll self sustain a lot less than the DH build. Partly due to lack of F2 heals, F3’s block upkeep, condi removal per block, and Litany for a quicker and better heal.
If Shelter isn’t doing its job of blocking attacks and dealing damage, then it’s just a 4k heal (5k sages) every 30 seconds. Sure the burn on block burst is a fun clique burn build but it’s not as competitive than the DH burn.
Your build can maybe shine in 1vs1 scenario, but i find difficult play without stability
On that note I haven’t updated the OP build to what I’ve been using. I swapped out Smite for SYG for the much needed stunbreakers and stability. Am also using Geomancy over Earth but that’s for another convo.
The build is far beyond just a 1v1 spec. I took down an Ele and Ranger while also downing Lord. Classes other than maybe DH and War, can’t stand up against Burn DH’s aoe damages unless we’re on an open field (or they’re plat players, then I’ll have a higher chance of losing the duo).
With all due respect, don’t call it burn build then. because its some hybrid, but the dedicated burn traits are not there
Assuming this is what you’re referring to, Radiance is not a must-have dedicated trait. Zeal’s traitline with it’s Power to Condi conversion yields a lot more burn damage per ticket than Radiance can dish out. I run Zeal > Radiance on my core burst guardian because it’s not a burn on block 1v1 build.
Again I’m not saying it’s a terrible untouchable build, burn block builds can be a fun especially seeing some one blow up passively, all I’m saying is it’s not exactly on the same level as the OP build.

The name is still in dispute, it’s either Firebrand or Purifier.
And if all we get is a new way to deal DPS, I’m legit deleting my Guardian right then and there, with all the gear and a couple of legendaries, because I’m not going to wait another 2 years and buy another expansion hoping they eventually pull the class out of the garbage can.
This is a typical response but can I haz your items when that day comes? Adding you in game.
With a name like Firebrand, I don’t see Bunker guard returning to meta. Especially when we’re getting a melee weapon.
I’m hoping for a new way to deal dps, whether that be Condi or Power.

I run it on my alt, partially because I don’t want to buy my inactive gf HoT :p
Anet will not give the same legendary from raids to any game mode. so this topic is already bust.
Saurce?
Really? I didn’t play PvP after release because I got rekt there back then lol. But if they change the meta because some noobs cry, thats just sad. PvP should be survival of the fittest with the fastest reactions and not just brainless rotation spamming.
Yeah but making your game so fast that you have to be on a fiber connection in order to play doesn’t end well.
This is why all those twitchy fast-action Korean PvP games never do well in the west, because those twitchy fast-action Korean games where designed around Korea where all the population is crammed into a tiny area and everyone lives a block from a fiber hub and get 10ms server latency.
The other problem with designing around fast reaction times, is that a person’s reaction time is largely based on genetics. However consuming a stimulant like caffeine does improve reaction times.
Meh, semantics. This 100ms+ player on CS:GO was a pro and obliterated us. Practically carried his team. Unless he was against a team of equal skill, it doesn’t matter a whole lot in the general population.
MMORPG’’ aren’t nearly as dependant on skill accuracy, nor does the game need low latency; I have played on Satellite internet, you basically plan ahead and cast your abilities ahead of time.
Point being, a return of the burst meta wouldn’t require a low latency connection. Not in the slightest.
(edited by Saiyan.1704)
Also, condi guard can be way better than power if you know what you’re doing. Same thing with condi engi, it’s more of a gimmick, but could work in ranked, so it’s viable. I haven’t played condi rev a lot, but I’ve seen a lot of cases where I see condi revs destroying every other build.
I would switch off my Condi guard if I’m versus a guard/war combo, or if I’m against Naru and Amon. I don’t switch if I’m against subpar dh/war players.
High Gold, Low Plat is where burn Guard currently belongs but it’s very gimmicky vs those two classes on a team.
Revs/Necro/Rangers/Full trap guard and >insert 0 cleanse spec<
Will all have issues vs a Condi comp without a support class like Ele helping them out.
(edited by Saiyan.1704)
OP, we’ve had that burst meta. It was removed because people, “Don’t have the reaction time to counter.” said abilities. Because of the complaints and Anet’s quick roll back of the patch, it’s safe to say we’re never getting another burst meta.
Necro, Rev, Ranger, Ranger, Guard
Vs
Ele, Mesmer, Necro, War, Condi EngiYou realize your comp was doomed from the very beginning right?
My condi guard can 1v3 yalls Rev/Ranger/Ranger. It’s not because I run a good condi build; it’s gimmicky, but it’s because Condi > those classes… and they had 4 Condi classes…
- Your team had 0 support for the Necro.
- Your team had 0 support vs Condi.
- Your Guard should have gone Symbolic bunker for the little support y’all had.
- One Ranger should have swapped.
We had a Yes/No Vote a while back.
A “Yes” meant we’d get class specific queueing and class specific MMR.
A “No” meant we wanted to swap classes before a game starts but it won’t be class specific MMR.
(Anet even stated they had matchmaking authority to alter how they wanted specific classes on a team, but people still voted No)The “No” vote won by 7%, saying a comp like yours should have swapped classes… That’s what Anet and the GW2 community wants you to do… btw I was a Yes vote above.
A good power rev should win against a burn guard due to the fact that meta rev has 3 condi cleanses on a short CD, Guardian only has 1 condi.
Core Guardian has 1 condi not counting sigils but DH Burn has 2 other condi in addition to burns and sigils. Cripple and Invulnerability procs when F1 burn on hit activates, except it’s added after the burn stack, so anything less than a 3 condi cleanse tool will not remove the burns. Top it off with sigils and that’s just enough condi coverage throughout a fight vs darn near any class with the exception of Power War and DH Guardian.
I haven’t had any issues with any power revs on point ;)
I think yellow hair should slowly form then on the last might stack, there’s an animated shock wave around the Guardian with full yellow hair that lasts until the Might wears out.
It’s a long shot but I think the community would really enjoy it.
We had a Yes/No Vote a while back.
A Yes vote meant we would queue up with 1 class and stay with that class up until the match is completed. We cannot swap before the match starts.
A No vote meant we would queue up with 1 class but able to swap that class before the match starts. MMR is based off of our rating vs their team rating as oppose to class specific rating.
At the time Voters were a little uneducated in what a Yes and No vote yielded. Some said they wanted a revote because they didn’t know the difference between the two votes.
I propose that the polling comes back to stay up between the season for a revote. Reason: Improper forum education between the two votes at the time of submission.

It takes 3 minutes to find a Conquest match.
It’s going to take 10m to find a decent 10v10 match.
Oh and when you get a match, GL with your 3 stacked thieves vs my 5 stacked Guardian random team.
Your /rant got -snipped-
You might as well compare GW2 to a baseball game because an MMORPG like GW2 has nothing in relation to a PvP-built Moba games.
SWTOR, WoW, ESO, these are the games you need to compare Guild Wars to.
They did the pvp community a favor. If the legendary armor was obtainable through pvp, pve players would simply jump in pvp matches and be dead weight because its easier to farm and be carried anonymously.
If a reward track was put in for legendary armor it would ruin pvp even more than it already is.Attach carrots to wins, not games played – problem solved.
Yup agreed. Rank wins to boot.
Let it be so enduring that casuals would need to revert to its PvE option.
I remember the time where we actually had a grind based leaderboard where the topkek gamer bots who played 24/7 remained top 10 indefinitely. That was a hilarious system.
I doubt they will function exactly like kits tbh. It doesn’t make sense to have no CD on them as it would generally make the entire virtues line pointless. If they do function exactly like kits it’s pretty meh. I love having a more intricate rotation compared to the braindead spam we have now but if I wanted keyboard piano I’d just play my engi.
They could take a leaf out of Revenant’s book, considering the pictures suggest they have some sort of energy/initiative system. So lower cooldowns but not something you can mindlessly spam.
If they are giving us Mantras, does that mean Guardian Lore would be mimicking Mesmers much like how DH mimicked Rangers?
If that’s the case, we likely won’t be getting any rage, energy, or initiative type bars.
^ OP is just being over dramatic and is afraid just to be afraid.
Remember when people wanted ESL to go away just so,
“The Devs can now concentrate around the baddies and balance around them”[paraphrasing]
Yea.. right… makes perfect sense.
If 2v2/3v3 was done right as a “mini” conquest or Deathmatch with rounds implemented, it should be fine. Devs needs to add strategic element like how Conquest is.
Ohh great, a Guardian spec that has kits in the form of tomes, making weapon choice redundant, we’ll be like Engineers, totally dependent on these tomes and not making any real use of your weapons.
If it’s done right, we shouldn’t worry about that. As far as i’m concern Guardians in general needs to have higher skill maintenance like Engi so I’m 100% for kits.
I’de rather they take out Spirit weapons, replace them with tomes now, and then with the elite spec, put spirit weapons back in, but make the weapons stronger and a lot more useful.
You missed the most important reasons why spirit weapons are bad.
If we get any type of A.I skill where these issues still exist then the spec will fail. But I agree with 1 thing, Spirit Weapons needs to be deleted and replaced with something else.
SW was a build I used first back at launch, simply because it was easy and annoying to go up against (anything invulnerable is annoying). Darn near every build has AI but I don’t think AI should ever carry the player.
1 spirit weapon build I knew of PreHoT utilized Staff + sHammer/sSword/sBow and that build was hard to use. It was difficult because you had to micro manage your spirit’s Commands as well as micro manage your staff skills for survival/cc purposes.
A Spirit build with with high risk and high reward is what we should get; something we need to micro manage to make effective.
Because it’s a reward incentive to do Raids. If you want Legendary armor you do raid, it’s as simple as that. It boggles my mind how the Spvp community went from we don’t need PVE rewards, to why can’t we do PVP for Hardcore PVE prestigious items. If you don’t touch raids or fractals, that’s all on you because you don’t want to bother with it. If you really wanted it, you’d do #braindeadpve.
We’ve never expressed not wanting rewards… the PvP community has Always pushed for better rewards because we would receive zilch for time spent in PvP.
What boggles my mind? How any PvE player can receive a PvP back piece so easily. It should have been more difficult but Anet wanted a steady stream of casuals… which I guess is fine… but everyone and their mothers have the back piece
I hope Legendary armor can be more exclusive to PvP players because lets face it… PvP players whose been gaming since launch with only 6k achievement points under their belt will never get the back piece unless they turn over a new leaf.

I think this would be a terrible idea, certainly in the current system where manipulating is a common occurrence in NA. It’s also not accessible to all but the top players, I know it’s meant to be legendary but hear me out first.
Currently all Legendarys are accessible to all players regardless of format for passing a certain bar or barrier. It doesn’t matter if we had 10,000 players pass that bar, all that matters is you show the dedication and skill required to get it. With your suggestion it severely limits not just who can get the armour but also how much of it they can get.
It would exclude a very large part of the PvP (or potential PvP) population that may be just as dedicated and enjoying of PvP as the top players for no other reason than 250 people are better than them. There’s no shame in knowing your place in PvP, knowing your limitations and striving to become better but at the same time we have to acknowledge that you need to set the bar at a place where dedicated but average PvP players can hit it. I felt Legendary backpiece mostly did this as it required dedicating yourself to PvP for a while as well as playing multiple classes and winning on them.
As Cynz said though, it’s just a shame you could get it by going afk for a lot of matches.
Point taken.
It takes 30 days to finish up a Legendary piece, along with the daily matts for each toke, so, what about an equal amount of dedication for PvP?
But so PvE players don’t get double the tokens, it could be some other PvP specific item to craft Legendaries.
Feuerbrand!
Crusader would be a nice fit for a tank elite spec.
But for this? Crusaders weren’t scholars.I think Absolver would be a nice name for this spec.
Or, you know, Firebrand works too.
Even if you disagreed with the whole, “witch hunter” concept of the Dragonhunter themed name, Firebrand complements it in terms of it metaphorically “branding” enemies with purifying flames (or something to that extent).
Even if you disagree with the above, Firebrand complements the overall role that Axe will give us; an actual Condi burn weapon we’ve yet to have on our bar, amongst a change of utilities.
This assumes Firebrand is more attuned to condi…. assumptions.. assumptions.

The calculation should be against your rating not the teams. However, there shouldn’t be huge variations in the rating of team members. The issue is with the matchmaking not glicko. Right now we are sacrificing short queue time for poor quality matches.
The matchmaker cannot possibly provide high quality matches with garbage ratings being fed into it. Ratings, and rating differences are supposed to represent likelihoods of outcomes, and when the matchmaker is paired with a consistent rating system the ratings will converge to make the predictor true.
But that doesn’t happen because the matchmaker and the rating systems are inconsistent.
For instance, the matchmaker has baked into it some logic that says that if you put high platinum player into a mid gold game (that is, a player with a +200 rating difference), that it would expect the platinum player’s team to win 57% of the time. That’s a bit lopsided, but not so unacceptable that it can’t fire the match off. Unfortunately, that assumption isn’t true – because the player rating update is inconsistent, the platinum player’s team actually has a 76% chance of winning the match.
What is the matchmaker supposed to do when it can’t accurately evaluate the quality of a match?
I agree, except reverse that 57% and 76% example for soloQ players. But you’re absolutely right in regards to that last sentence.
The matchmaker can only create fair matchups if it can accurately predict the outcomes. If the ratings being given to it don’t mean what it thinks it does, and update in a way inconsistent with those assumptions, it’s going to keep spitting out crappy matches with no correction mechanism.
Emphasis for truth!
Also, we really aren’t using glicko it is more ELO. This season they disabled the key difference between the two systems which is increasing rating deviation due to inactivity.
They aren’t using either system – again, Elo is a consistent system, while A.Net’s special snowflake rating system is not.
They’ve tried both systems. Backways, front ways, all kind of ways. But just placing a number on a person then “tweaking” that number depending on W/L ratios against teams Anet deem are “easy” or “hard” to win means there can be LOTS of outlying errors that’ll simply yield the opposite result.
A.Net’s special system does not find, or try to find, fair match-ups for its top players – it instead finds weak opponents to feed to those players in blowout after blowout. That is probably not the design intent of their rating system, but it’s what theirs does.
Currently it looks for players of the same division.. but top 10 are grouped together due to “matchmaking looking around”, when it finds no more top 10, it picks the lower divisions because going higher isn’t an option. So top 10 are up against the next mmr and that’s top 25 and beyond.
Normally this would be “farming” the lower ranks but Anet added the -30 for a loss, +3 for a win. So that a single loss can really hurt the top 10. Naru + his carrying teef Amon must have beat me 8 times this season but I managed to add 2 losses under their belt, resulted in marginal gains if any.
To bad the top 10 tend to queue at 11:00pm to 3:00am, or before dawn, or any other time a duo is on for them to queue dodge, etc. Oh, except for when they’re on their alt accounts.
(edited by Saiyan.1704)
Yea, I nearly quit the game because they haven’t given Guardians sai or kunai weapons yet…

Knowing Anet in the past, they are working on multiple projects. It’s just a shame that these projects takes a year to complete. Some projects they were working on for the past 2 seasons and it has yet to be released. The time frame on projects have been this way since Launch. It’s just the downside of a F2P game.
If the 1 through 3 skill set changes depending on Virtues activations then we’ll be having an X timer to use F1 dps skills – F2 support skills, and an F3 team dmg negation skills on the axe’s skill set.
All I gotta say is, Virtues better be on a low queue down, axe skills better be on a low queue down, and dps/supports/utility Virtues should be comparable to Ele’s attunement usages.
Changing the floors does literally nothing for mid level and high level PvP, while at the same time throwing new players under the bus.
I think you need to read the OP again because you missed most of the post
I don’t think you know what a skill floor is.
Nobody on the leaderboard is playing at or near the skill floor. The variance in classes skill floor has no bearing on a class’s distribution on the leaderboard. Saying that low skill floor classes “dominate” ranked seasons is false, unless you are talking about ability to dominate bronze.
Yea, this is mainly a Bronze/Silver/Gold issue where an easy build like full trap DH gets auto kills because people crosses the trap ring.
I’m all for turning this game’s weapon skills into a Skill Shot but that’s not going to happen and like Crinn said, newer players who already finds Conquest challenging, will just experience more frustration with this new learning curve.
Anet needs to do a 180 and force casuals out of Ranked PvP. The terms “Casual” and “Competitive” are opposites.
That’s literally in every game… Your LoL user base wouldn’t the Twitch King in terms of viewership if it wasn’y for casuals. That games Esports wouldn’t be a thing without casuals…
I understand why you’re being so dramatic but let’s not put a torch to the game that’s already losing players.
I hope it’s 100% fake… I don’t want another set of “elite” specialization that makes all other previous utilities worthless.
We all know how many builds HoT brought to the table… no thank you, Anet can keep their elite spec ideas in a very dark closet.
Everyone should really watch his youtube video of dh carrying (posted on his signature), before commenting here. It speaks volumes about his actual skill level and experience.
Here’s the link, in case he decides to remove it: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6DGRFVbvCnk
Full trap DH with poor self sustains and a Necro that darn near insta dies to… Symbols. I use a similar symbol build but these particular players are silver level
Ohmergawd Trev key bind your skills!
Meanwhile there are warriors running around with by far more HP, armor, defensives, condi cleanse and heals dishing out 12k+ instant aoe arc dividers and nobody has issue with it~
You can’t be serious. People complain about warrior all the time too.
Not as much as about thieves.
I see more people complain about War in terms of, “omg they r op please Nerf” while thieves get the whole, “Spam 1, 1, 1, stealth… 1, 1, 1,” rotations.
Thieves may be annoying but Warriors win the “OP class of the season” in terms of general complaints on the class’s bursts.
I’m going to break this down into three very short sections for simplicity’s sake.
Start of Season
Mid Way, Leading to End of Season
“Top” Players Still Cheating the System
Season Conclusion & what we Need
I still like the PvP league system and it’s what was needed in S1, but everything mentioned above darn near made this season the most frustrating one yet, next to season 1.
At any given time there’s probably 10 or less players in the top 250 playing. gl not playing vs any top player who is qing
True but there should never be,
Plat+Plat+Gold3+Gold3+Gold2
vs
Gold3+Gold3+Gold1+Gold1
Matchmaking doesn’t know to give the first team the Gold level 1’s for the Gold T3 and Gold T2 on the first team.
It’s true that you never truly know how well a duo (or any player) can “carry” on a team but matchmaking can still be a little smarter when placing the already-picked-players on each team.
BnS is just simply the better game! I encourage people here to join some veteran Guild Warts 2 players like me, Ostrich Eggs, and many more and play some fun, competitive PvP
No offense to Ostrich but he stopped being competitive the moment The Abjured kicked him off the team.
Please tell me again about all of these Ex-GW2 competitive players being top 100 in this other mmorpg, a game where Rank PvP is filled with these so-called Destroyer Bots.
Forum bug fixed in 2020?
^ Fight a Platinum Power War or try surviving vs a Thief like Kat who 2shots DH’s at half health. The class suddenly gets very challenging.
I’ve probably 1v2 people in Silver every third game, up till Gold T2. And that’s with Power Guard medi. So yes DH has an easy braindead skill floor but that skill floor will only get you so far.
I chuckle when I see a full trap medi guard get blown up, lasting only 5 seconds on point in a 1v2.
Would you want to see any changes to Courtyard before it came back? A new mechanic, perhaps?
7k Arc Divider in a 5man group… thieves automatically evaporate… this thread needs to die.
I’ve come here to say Rune of Speed is fantastic. Take it over Water ASAP.
Agreed! There’s also Lynx if people want a more dps option too.
Also, I’m still skeptical about Mace over Scepter.
If Bunker Symbolic Menders is not considered a support option but rather a bunk option, I’m not going to be standing still on a slow Mace#2. I’ll be kiting around all over the place, using F2 to peel away (if DH).
For 1v1, I’ll absolutely be standing in Mace/sword symbols but the build doesn’t need help self sustaining itself in 1v1. I wouldn’t underestimate Scepter’s range damage when chasing/focusing people, and it’s scepter#3 immob helps when turning over a point.
DH is a lot better than Virtues in that build. Go 1/1/1 for the traits. Of course if u don’t use traps, just go 3/1/1 but I highly recommend ToF or at least FoF for the stunbreaker/stability.
A lot of guards use Rune of Speed to kite and troll points, I highly recommend it.
Minimum rating at rank 250 is 1544 now, in NA.
Everyone received Decay for no reason… I have Decay of 160+ and I’ve been pvping the whole time lol..
