Rank: Top 250 since Season 2
#5 best gerdien in wurld
It’s definitely a map for thieves with the exception of very small node sizes. No issues with the map though, I find it enjoyable.
Some one wasn’t here for the legit power burst meta when Zerker amy was actually a thing for every class. We also had a burst Condi meta too.
Players who want their name on the leaderboards don’t use trash builds and they don’t have a 20% win rate. But we all have issues with build diversity, which seems to be the main outline of this thread without deliberately saying it.
If you want to use outdated builds, go ahead. When you complain about lack of build diversity, we’ll be right there with you. But you’ll receive no remorse from us when doing poorly on an outdated non-meta build that you continue to use.
There’s indeed individual skill in this game but, this isn’t an FPS shooter; the skill cap overall is lower when it comes to class vs class. Play enough and you’re no different than the top 1%, skill wise. That said… map awareness, proper rotations, knowing who to engage and when, proper burst on the right focus target, this is the area where 90% of players struggle with. The very areas that makes Conquest skillful.

Removal of damage sigils (including Earth/Geomancy) was a bigger impact than the removal of sustain sigils.
No one cares more about sustain sigs except for maybe Ele. Even then, they’re fine on a good Nec comp where aoe damages and Nec support matter a bit more than an Ele self sustaining himself.
If you think Conquest is just a chicken dance around a circle with occasional zerging from point to point, then you truly don’t understand the game mode.
Conquest is an old, repetitive gamemode but it’s not without strategy or skill. I can write a novel longer than the OP’s post explaining each class’s roles, their rotations, team strat and team comp. I’ve reached Legendary/Diamond in every season by playing just one class, majority soloQ, since Season 2.
It’s too bad that Stronghold and Courtyard’s TDM was such a bust. But these two game modes failed because they heavily lacked strategy compared to Conquest.
To the above posters, there’s many players who solo ranked to Plat and without multiclassing once.
I’m not saying reaching top (X) rank should be a requirement, I’m just saying that multiclassing is less of a skill factor and more of an annoying, unnecessary hurdle. Compared this “skill requirement” to things like:
There’s nothing good in having that one player who must queue with a class he/she doesn’t play. This benefits no one, definitely not his team.
Great work!

I agree with the previous posts. DH can and will reach Plat rank.
In the “Esport” scene where class viability on a team matters, that’s debatable but… who cares? There are no tournaments anymore aside from that one community tournaments coming up in June.
“We’re now trash tier” is a terrible mentality that simply doesn’t hold water in the PvP Seasonal Leagues. You’ll still see many guardians in top 100 NA & EU.
To me guardians should be support. Either offense oriented with a little support or defense oriented with a lot of support. But always an element of support should be involved. Guardian as full out dps was never meant to be a thing imo.
I always though of Guardian as this Paladin type class with a sword and shield, doing chivalry type jobs and protecting people as oppose to a Monk who straight up heals people.
I’m perfectly fine with Guardian’s big F3 shield, aoe aegis, and cleanses with mini-burst heals as oppose to numerous heals throughout a fight.
But we never had a Druid in the game until HoT so… a lot of players turned Guardian into that Monk/Druid/Healer type class. To me, that is not what Guardian was but I understand it was all we had at the time and people adopted that adaptation to the point where they don’t want to lose the Tomb of Courage role.
Even if we find the golden years of GW2 PvP and miraculously bring forth that era to present, what good will that do?
I feel the Devs have a lot to tap into in terms of in-game functionality. In-game tournaments, 3v3 mini TDM with rounds, fun mini PvP games between seasons, Stronghold functionalities.
It really comes down to Anet not wanting to experiment with GW2 PvP, rather, the lack of resources to do so.
We’d be lucky to hunt dragon flies right now.
Dragonflies. You reading this Karl?
Buff Guardians or Riot!!
I’ll let you know how our scrims vs abjured go in the next couple days
Any update how the Hammer Guard has fared in competitive scrims?
I too would like to know!
Argh, I really hope it’s equal or close to DH. People saying “power you can play DH” but if the new elite specs are the new god mode specs then there’s no option.
HoT brought a Lot of CC with marginal sustains. DH brought Stability and marginal sustains with F2 and F3. The new elite could be just a mirror of some CC and sustains.
For a sales pitch, they will likely power creep the elites a ton load.
As it is now, playing a healer requires you to mouse over each person or look top-left to find their class and conditions. This doesn’t cut it for the condi game we have now.
You can click on the top left panel of players to select them rather than pro-click your friendlies in the open.
All I gotta say is, IF they bring back Guard holding books in their hands and casting dps or support skills, they better be darn good. There was a reason why they removed them from the game.
Yes nerf war further plox
An MMO is 90% PvE, most stick to whatever works.
You’ve obviously never played EVE Online, beyond that even with more standard MMOs there is a good sized playerbase wanting PvP, which is why at launch a lot of MMOs have as many PvP servers as PvE (e.g – Rift), just most MMOs get PvP completely wrong / neglect it with the obvious consequences for their PvP playerbase.
As for what works, really MMOs aren’t “working” that is the problem, they are supposed to be games that excel at long term play, yet MOBAs, FPS, Minecraft, etc all do a better job on that front, whilst 99% of MMOs can’t even grow their playerbase.
The genre is a stagnant unimaginative mess, look how few AAA MMOs have been released in recent years, the two big ones even got cancelled (Everquest Next & Titan), which says it all.
Wait for Star Citizen.
Then again games like SC and Eve Online are not the same genres as GW2. Apples and asparagus.
Not sure why we’re still replying to this troll post.
For those of you unfamiliar with these clowns:
- idk.7156 is Nos’s alt account
- Beast.6745 is Toker’s alt account
Both Legend players, though, admittedly, we all play like bronzes, sometimes.
Clearly a troll post.
If I could make a suggestion you may want to test , try using Communal Defenses instead of Stalwart Defender granted you would lose the 240 to toughness when you have the shield but giving your team 5 seconds of Aegis when you succesfully block an attack (15 CD) then add to that they all could be triggering Shattered Aegis for the damage and getting Retaliation after the Aegis ends so your issue with the range attacks (Rangers and Mesmers for example) is resolved because they could quite easily kill themselves if they aren’t careful. Just a thought.
I was using SD mainly for the Shield’s 20% reduced cooldown on its skills. Considering what Aegis can give you team wide, the CD trait is a fine pick too.
I’m going to go ahead and prematurely post this build because I feel this spec is Plat rank material, an extremely strong 1v1 build with good mid fight potential, and it’s just plain fun.
Scep/Shield
Annulment + Revocation
Sword/Focus
Cleansing + Agility
At first glance you’re going to think I’m crazy leaving Virtues for Zeal but after you land Shield#4 in a group, instantly dealing 1.7k from the wave and 1.2k additional damage per aegis hit that your allies deal, you’ll understand the build’s potential. Shield of Judgment alone can deal 5k damage to one target if he’s near your allies thanks to Shattered Aegis.
Healing
I wouldn’t underestimate Litany’s quick and powerful heal. As pointed out by Kuya.6495, Smiter’s Boon damages remains unaltered so you can use this “smite condition” as another method if burst. Purification makes for a good heal but the cast time on the trap has killed me.
Virtues cleanse and stability replacement
The needs in Virtues is basically replaced by Cleanse on Block and Fragments of Faith trap. Though the cleanse is not good for burst condi’s (that’s why we have 2 smite conditions and a CoP) it still helps against other Condi classes like burn guard and condi thieves.
Amulets
Rune of the Lynx – Mobility and Damages
Rune of Surging – Elite CC and Damages

I can’t think of a single reason to roll a Guardian over a Warrior.
A single sigil > War
Guard > War 1v1
There’s 2 reasons
Premature post. I haven’t lost to a Rev and we’re not nearly as kittenome people say that we are. (pvp)
I messaged you already Mes but gonna post here also.
Naru, try this build out. If you’re losing to some one with it in 1v1 let me know.
Sword/Focus
Agility/Cleansing

I don’t share the same criticism as Svarty, I still find the game enjoyable. That said, it’s mainly only enjoyable if you’re doing well, which I have been but I can’t speak for every other Guardian.
Guardian is a fun class and easy to pick up. That aspect is definitely not the same for ever other class though, For example, it’s going to take you 3x longer to master Thief than it will Guard. Thief is just that much more difficult to master as a class because of their reaction timing, reading the map, and other class’s abilities.
If you’re thinking of just picking 1 class and mastering it first, try out Thief then Guardian.
I can vouche for Rain too, I remember me and Roon taking turns dueling her but I didn’t have the win count as Roon did, which was 50/50.
I honestly haven’t been on as much as i’d like, working 60+ hours a week as I have. But a couple days ago I lost a 1v1 vs an Engi and… that doesn’t happen. Even after a few beers.. so Naru is probably right in terms of where Guard actually stands in the “competitive” scene.
I personally like Sigil of Annulment and Sigil of Absorption with X/Shield. Planning F1 and Shield#5 works ok when pulling off an interrupt to remove that extra boon.
Don’t know why you would, whatever you can do with the bow you can do with the scepter (except the ward) while having more choices and dealing more damage.
Which skill from scepter or the off hand provides you 6 seconds of stability on hit like Deflecting Shot?
Shield#5.

What kind of engi build are you looking for?
Paly bruiser, unsure what their meta build is this patch though.
If PvP is fun (heck, i’m still playing) then i’d likely buy it.
If there’s improved build diversity, i’ll buy it. (Karl thx for Guard bae, but this patch however, removed burn dh)
If Guard actually gets a really cool ethereal looking blue Axe thingy, i’ll buy it.

I start a thread stating Spear of Justice got a straight buff and people are arguing over SoC vs RF. I luvit!!!!
The title says, “new toy”, we’re basically adding more toys to the list
Don’t mean to double post but, FYI gentlemen, precast Signet of Courage + Merciful Intervention or Judge’s Intervention.
Merciful Intervention + the elite is kind of a waste but with the 1200 range with the elite, I see that combo working really well. You don’t need to be in the line of fire at all if you don’t need to be.
Going to mess with it on my mender’s guard.
The Ele forums should form a union.
Kappa
You arrived right when the new meta patch hit, literally just days ago. Everyone is either raging, depressed, indifferent, or glad. In that order. They lowered damage across the board while also lowering all classes self-sustains. The kicker is, some meta builds (currently on metabattle as of this post) will no longer be ‘meta". There’s going to be some changes.
What hasn’t changed? Ele is still a support build.
Yea Anet gosh do a better job nerfing warriors! keKappaRage
My fellow Guardians, I’d love to see or reads y’all’s success with SoC in Duo or SoloQ.
That said, I do see some usages in a 5man team where coordination with your team in VoiP can yield a successful full team heal up.
However, I feel the elite will belong on Mender build guards regardless, rather than Marauder builds, because Mender symbolic using RF in a fight is redundant; odds are, they’re going down anyways if you’re needing to resort to that last option savior button.
(edited by Saiyan.1704)
Been working on the next meta build, we’re never gonna be as good as last meta with longbow as we were last meta, and symbols is simply a bad build in pvp besides pushing far and living.
Here’s a build I came up with that’s a good control spec with decent 1v1 and great teamfight/skirmishes (but haven’t fully tested). It uses hammer and scepter/focus and works best with a necro and revenant (power or condi) to hit your target that you cc. It plays a lot like old hammer spec played if you remember that “fun” build. I haven’t tested it that much so let me know any feedback.
Scepter/focus should be cleansing and anullment.
The only sigil that’s adjustable on this build is cleansing, others are required. Anullment is a busted sigil btw, everyone should be running it.You’ll probably love the busted hammer swap into mightyblow, it just reks things. Yes I think bane signet is a real pick, test of faith has been nerfed 1 too many times to be that good right now. Enjoy deleting the OP thieves with 1 skill and forcing dodges with signet stow spamming.
I have a couple questions with the build.
Bane signet doesn’t out damage ToF or PoB so I’m sure you’re not using it for damages. As a CC option, it could work but that aspect would be most noticeable on side points. It’s dodgeable, blockable and can miss from blinds IIRC (been a while) so it may not be very reliant in it’s activation.
My issues with hammer is that, the downtime between skills can suck especially when trying to chase some one, but hence the amulet. I don’t see you doing well vs a power war or Mesmer. Hamguard performed worse last season compared to other builds, so I’m curious how much better can its burst be this season when Symbolic is just as good if not better compared to last season.
With regards,
They didn’t want sigils to have a huge influence in the game. So they nerfed everything in case sigils was a huge influence in the game.
Why does it seem like we’re always 1 patch away from being balanced, only to have another patch that says we’re 1 patch away from being balanced?
Is this Sigil really all that bad on this 1 class who literally asked for a Thief specific sigil? I mean, I’m still waiting for Thief to win a 1v1 fight by stealing 20stacks of might and wreck shop with it.
But hey what do I know, I’m not a Rev worried about losing some Might stacks.
players that relly in gimmick to win instead on personal skills will cry, blance path super effective.
Gimmicks are still there player have to aply more, this is what made gw1 actually a very good pvp, every one could play meta, but metas could require some player skill more than the build.
if they continue with this mentality i think i have to change my signature, cause 5years later they are starting to do it right.
You realize 95% of the elite pvp players in gw2 already quit right? And the few that are left already started a thread talking about how bad this patch is. The people “crying” about “gimmicks” as you say, are the people who are actually playing pvp consistantly and realize how kittenty this was and how boring it makes the gameplay. I personally main war/druid. War got cast time added too it’s skills instead of a damage reduction or range reduction, this makes it so boring for me to play now as anyone who has skill can easily dodge a headbutt/shield bash. Im fine with nerfs, they have done that every balance patch for 6 seasons…this one was just done awfully.
You realize I can count all of these “known” ESL players on all digits and i’ll still have free digits left on my toes, right? People act like 250+ elite players left GW2, as if we actually had that many Pro players competing in previous Tournaments.
There are no pro players in this game. Just casuals who got better after playing for years. They stopped playing for obvious reasons, now other casuals have replaced them and I don’t notice a skill difference.
The previous meta, anet had finally reached a spot where EVERY single class was meta,
And it was one of the worst metas we ever had.
Completely disagree… if your class couldn’t make it, it’s because YOU we’re at fault. Just because you don’t know how to dodge the pizzas on the ground doesn’t mean it was a bad meta.
This patch was bad because it demolished build diversity, at least for DH. Like some one once said, they don’t test these patches on a test server, they just roll them out and pray to Melandru.
PvP
I’m just a DH scrub but I will say Axe Whirl Pooper did 6k on me the other day. GS may have mobility but Axe damages on point is no joke.
Just thought I’d poke in and give my 2 copper.
Just wanted to comment and say that of course anet deleted the thread that rarnark and Naru called them out on… cant be seen having the best pvp players say how bad your balance patch is.
Wish I could have seen that thread but i’m sure it was nothing but Naru cursing Anet to oblivion because it’s the only language he knows how to use for the past couple of seasons.
Imagine if the spirit weapons were Glued onto the side of our waist. sHammer to our left, sSword to our right, sShield directly on our backs. Just this change would buff them.
I just think that would be a better idea than simply reducing cooldowns or improving damages on the niche spirit weapons…. That’s the route Anet always goes…
No competitive DH will use Signets in Season 7.
It’s as simple as that.
The Signet’s passive playstyles are that of Warriors…. to make them viable, Anet would have to turn DH’s playstyle into Warriors which is never going to happen.
Power DH is about as good as Berserk War, aka, Trash tier…
Sure, other classes got nerfs too but they got buffs in areas that are somewhat viable.
We got… Signet buffs and… Consecration buffs… big whoop, that did nothing for us.
And Hallowed Ground is directly competing against “Stand Your Ground.” Yup, very unique indeed.
Lost build diversity
Condi DH performs 2x as bad thx to the added condi cleanses on other classes and the removal of condi sigils like Torment, Geomancy, and Earth. There goes my fun “somewhatviable” top 250 build.
Meta Symbolic DH
Now every DH and their mums are going to run Symbolic Menders.
No clue what Anet were trying to do with Guardian. My only thoughts are… they’re getting ready for the new Xspansion. But if they nerf these items just to buff them in the Xspansion… i’m concerned with what we’re getting in that patch.
No more A.I please… A.I strafing with their 1s delay attack is just terrible. They can reduce CD’s all they want, the A.I will still be there.
