Maybe let’s leave the idea of making it a thief/mesmer kind of skill, but! Two options:
1. Give it a stunbreak to escape to an ally
2. Make it heal for 25% of target’s health pool when it is in downed state (but still retaining the heal as it is) – that would be a great ressing tool along with protective reviver.Those would be much more appropriate buffs.
I agree, that actually would be a good buff.
Thinking about other builds DH has, I can’t imagine the instant 25% health LoS ability on downs be any way an issue. Even if you were running a power build where you had to replace 1 of the three utilities on the bar, it might be well warranted if you were at the right place, at the right time for the support rez.
No one on power build would actually use it though, that was just a positive example. I feel this strengthens bunker DH a whole lot more than any build Guardian has and right now Bunker guard could use some help in the meta.
Typically Power Symbolic is a heavy bruiser build that does exceptionally well in groups and against other melee type classes. It also performs exceptional vs Condi cheese classes.
The main reason why it’s not used is probably because WvW guilds prefer Power LB’s group utility and backline CC and/or dps. Which is understandable considering there’s not a whole lot of consistent Range DPS classes unless you go power ranger.. but that class can’t hold his own in skirmish fights like DH.

I don’t play anymore because I physically can’t… last two evenings Anet’s servers kept getting DDoS’d; the servers keep lagging and crashing.
Couldn’t login since the server crash yesterday night… tried again just now and still the same thing. Maybe this is a sign…
I would want a 2v2 queue and leaderboards before 2v2 AT… but sure let’s have 2v2 AT also.

The plethora of non-meta builds isn’t the issue. The issue has always been matchmaking. Matchmaking has no idea that an account rating of 1600 is using a non-meta build that’s rated 1450 or less.
I once tried to throw all my placements to experience the bronze life, couldn’t do it.

I like it, except that the arena is full of bugs where people can shoot from upstairs and that stupid LoS bug on the little stairs in the middle.

Because the silent minority play guardian. Just pull them with your Scorpion weapon and say, “Get over here!”.
All seriousness there should be a mini capture point or timer some where that pushes everyone on the edges to the center… Or automatically dealing damage to a player pushes you to the center… Or the devs can simply make a bubble around the center arena…ok whatever :p
Toughness is useless as well as damage mitigation. Several months ago I ran a experiment using my guardian. I wanted to aim for maximum toughness and passive mitigation so I used: Signet of judgment, Hunter’s Fortification, Retributive Armor, Scrapper Rune, Knight Amulet and modest protection up time. And guess what? A thief still killed me in a couple of seconds.
I honestly didn’t notice any reduction in damage. Damage is so high at this point that I don’t think any of that no longer matters.
Guard is 1 class that prefers Vita over toughness because we have no health for damage reduction to even matter.
No one is good enough to hold a 90% win rate with no match manipulation in a system that has no division segregation. Anyone who believes that has clearly never played against top/pro players in inhouses and scrims. They aren’t the carry god juggernauts that you believe them to be. It just feels that way when you land on their team in a ranked match and they have someone on an alt throwing on the enemy team.

Exactly, it’s not rocket science. One person, no matter how good he/she is cannot be in control of the other four. It is impossible.
Unless you’re a thief who decaps far, rotate mid to +1, rotates to home to +1 and win node, back to far to decap, rinse and repeat.
It’s why thieves are becoming/are OP in Conquest. They literally carry games with their +1 and decapping abilities. No other class carries nearly this well.
That’s something I really can’t give a lot of advice for. You’re better off watching thieves stream and see how they play versus guards.
What I will say, don’t melee guards longer than 3s unless you stunlock them. Most power d/p thieves do a hit and move maneuver. Don’t play like you’re a warrior ;)
The meta battle builds haven’t changed a whole lot tbh. What class do you play?
I like the AT. And let’s not pretend teams don’t dodge each other either. Much like Rank queue, it happens for the daily AT too.
I suspect the monthly tournament will be more competitive for obvious reasons. As well as Jebro’s tournament.

In terms of effectiveness though the PvP ranks, Condi teef can potentially be countered by a single DH, mid fight pressure with heavy aoe such as symbolic DH. Most Condi thief would stick to sides and would try to avoid the guard unless he’s not equally skilled.
Burn DH’s biggest concerns are good power thieves who know how to cc and burst. This can be problematic for burn Guards to 1v1 because we won’t last very long unless we’re able to burst the thief ahead of time with a ready available cd. Aside from that, we perform 3x better in team fights and debatably better on side points.
Both classes are at the mercy of matchmaking but in terms of “carrying” a team by 1v2ing or 1v3ing classes, burn DH comes out on top. (my opinion).

Well no crap lol. But this is pug queue… It unfortunately happens.
I dont know why people would say this would be overpowered. I mean mesmer and ele have a similar skill on 30ish CD and a stunbreak in one package.
Mesmers and eles are completely different classes.
The problem is that not only support guardians would be using it if it was buffed. Meditation guardians would obviously use it 100% of the time.
But it still would be a justified change. Do you know a PvP mesmer that isnt using blink for retreat?
Of course all classes are kinda different but a mere skill comparison is still justified.
Thief also has it, with a return option bundled in. Necro has a slower version with other perks.
What’s so different about guardian compared to 4 other classes?

Y’all are forgetting one incredibly huge detail that makes Guardian stand out among other classes who have a non-target teleport.
We can hold a point.
And if we get +1’d, we fly away with ez except a whole lot better than a Necro. Add in Judges, sword blink, F2, topped off with 25% speed runes, means no one will catch us and we’ll always reach a point before it gets contested.
As much as I would love a change to MI, that idea really is a ludicrous change to have in structured PvP. Every single Guardian burn/bunker/power build will use it..

Reduce the teleport range by 400 when no ally is present.

Just wanted to add that there’s a few players in EU who are top 100 on the burn build. I know because last season a burn guard messaged me saying he was top 25 EU.

I have beaten Naru and Amon duo on soloQ burn guard in s6 once before. Those two classes are not a 100% counter to burn guard but I will say you have to play darn good to stand your ground against any Good +1 power thief.
We’re not in a bunker meta. The complaint player’s have is mainly on build diversity.
Guardian has three solid debatable builds for Rank queue. Ele has.. one. That is the boring part. Other classes still lack build diversity.
DH F1 does the trick nicely.

I agree with you completely. I was just being facetious; depicting what Anet’s expectations are of us, throwing out matches like your picture. It’s ridiculous and uncalled for to lose -20 or more on a game that’s 480-500 when the comp was lopsided from the very beginning.

This is probably one of the worst things I’ve ever seen in gw2 and I’ve been playing since launch.
If that’s true then you some how missed the skill named Polymorph Moa. It’s a button that defines, “i win”.
When they were first introduced, Rev as a class with their dps + evade skills was the most broken. Window of opportunity simply wasn’t there for other classes to counter play efficiently. That said, since the previous tune up patches, Revs have gotten eons better in terms of balance.
Their AoE knockback is class defining, I wouldn’t call it OP by any means because… well… who has issues with it unless the person plays with their eyes closed?
They do that and we just replaced thief/rev/mesmer. I’ll no longer have to worry about a +1 thief when I’m fighting a dh or rev… i’ll just fly away like Superman Goku
Been playing with the two utilities, Smite vs ToF. You’re right Smite Condition meshes a bit better with the build. It’s the utility factor I suppose, tackling a +1 Condi class or even that “oomph” heal effect when you really do need that miniscule heal among your medi utilities when getting +1 by a power Rev or Thief.
Maybe during the off-season they could be persuaded into giving us an Unranked Queue checkbox for 2v2?

Solo que? So you trynna tell us that you can carry with this build? Sounds too good to be true. Smells fishy but if it’s true then it might be worth a shot. But before I get into it, what is your medium framerate and ping while you do ranked, OP?
Last season I hit rank 13 soloQ as burn guardian, whether that be matchmaking luck, take it as you will.
Deranked off the leaderboard after playing all night but slowly got back up.

In other words you use it to throw if you happen to lose. Only reason you swap to bunker (shout?) guard is if you legitimately thought it would counter that spec. Guess it worked out if OP found it problematic enough to talk about it.
Reread what you just said and hopefully you’ll realize how it makes 0 sense. I got on bunker because there is no way my AT team was going to lose to a bunch of randoms, so we’d rather have fun playing stupid builds(the burn build hes so proud of falls into that category btw) than meta specs. The game hes talking about ended 500-0 basically, and the result would have been the same regardless of what me or the people I was playing with were running. Your comment is actually stupid.

Agree with OP. I keep playing because it’s fun and I like the challenge.There’s a whole lot more Pros than Cons and PvP as a whole has improved drastically since s1.
The game isn’t balanced for actually fighting people. There are 2 man comps out there who will never die to another 2 man comps, whatever classes and builds they run. I like the idea, but I think it’s prudent of them to not make it an actual game mode, because it will break as soon as people start treating it seriously.
DH + Necro work really well to counter bunker + X comps too
On competitive 2v2 soloQ you’re going to have a plethora of different comps working based on player’s skill level because there’s a lot of players who simply are not mechanically skilled.
So just like build variances in spvp where build effectiveness drops off after reaching a certain division, duo comps will work up to a certain point too. It’s why Solo Queue 2v2 should be a thing and not premade 2v2 comps.
It needs a queue where it throws you into a hotjoin game. but make it so people can leave voluntarily and when another person queues throw them into the open game. Game only starts when 4 people are in.
and no spectators. Because to many people just afking in rooms, so it gets cluttered and for those that do want to play it’s always a who loads, and clicks the arrow first for who can play.
Pausing an on going fight just to get a +1? That will set a game mode up for failure.
I for one will not wait for that 5m long +1, I don’t want another 2m wait for game to start if he comes, and the cycle can rinse and repeat. Just make it a normal 2v2 queue with it’s usual Round type system like other 2v2 game modes have. They leave, you win. That simple.
The changes would definitely have to be separated between WvW and sPvP. I still feel the LB Nerf should have been exclusively WvW.
im not saying they are broken or avoid counterplay, im just saying that there is something wrong when half of the players in a given match are playing the same class.
Pretty much has always been like that tbh. HoT just boosted DH popularity by a larger margin because of the class’s cool elite as oppose to it just being easy to play.
All the medi trapper DH are in lower divisions anyways. I’ve yet to see a full trap DH in Plat.

If I were to redesign it, I would allow some form of “griefing” from the losing side – maybe have them throw some rotten fruit… or at least do something that says, “you may have beaten me now, but I’ll kick your ass next time!”. Everyone loves a friendly challenge, right?
That would be amusing actually. The entire 5man team could throw tomatoes/fruit at the person they hated/found annoying the most. So much better than corpses on the ground

The tournament calendar is actually independent of reset days and it’s actually 1 hour earlier, not later. Also, we’ve set the schedule so that tournaments are now 7-8 hours apart.
For example: Grenth’s Game opens today at 11:15PM PST. Tomorrow, it will start at 10:15PM PST. Saturday it will start at 9:15PM PST and so forth.
This should give people with all schedules chances to participate. There may be some days where no tournaments work for you, but it won’t be too long until a tournament moves back into your timeframe.

I work a 8pm – 4:45pm job but typically don’t get home till 6 or 7:00pm. I’ll never make a daily tournament with this current system. That said, I understand Anet is shifting the tournament’s time 1hour later, each day, everyday, until reset day. (Tuesday?).
If this is the case I can make the majority tourney days out of the week, assuming Tuesday’s evening reset tournament starts at the default time of 6:00, Wednesday is 7:00, Thursday is 8:00, Friday, 9:00, etc. I may only miss 1 or 2 days out of the week which isn’t bad.
Force of Will’s outgoing healing effectiveness needs to more than double. Maybe then will bunker gerdien be a thing in competitive spvp :p
It’s more fun than I thought it would be (thought it’d be great, but it’s awesome) What you’d think would be issues in terms of class vs class on the map, isn’t.

If you want “PvP” instead of “node vs node” then play more 2v2’s in custom arenas. Duel enough and you’ll be able to PvP better in Conquest by winning 1v1’s, 2v2’s on side points.
If you’re tired of having teammates who let you down in Conquest, get with people who wont. Make a team and compete against other players who are also good at 1v1’s and 2v2’s.
I agree. Tbh I thought the corpse below the pedestal was an unintended glitch that Anet just ran with.
Have more stats, almost like a probable Reason why the other team may have lost. Similar stats as the players on the pedestal.
And – or
Put stomp outs over the corpse so it’s not all too embarrassing to be laying on the ground but rather there’s at least some additional visual appeal on the bodies (with the other team’s stats).
It’s for [the more] competitive premade teams who participate solely for the competition and monthly prizes.
I don’t need it bigger than it needs to be. The new PvP Hotm layout gets straight to the point in terms of fighting npcs, Lord, etc. Just wish it wasn’t so dark and gloomy.
^ Anet themselves suggested that changes to Matchmaking would be easier to do. More options sort of speak in terms of regulating class stacking and MMR placement.
We (forums) voted “No” because we (they) had doubts about mm change so we (they) wanted the ability to swap before the game starts.
At work and haven’t seen the changes but from what i’m reading here, how is this any different than Overwatch’s end of game? I’m trying to get a mental picture.
Kind of surprised about the two guards in NA, as the class is widely seen as not viable for tournament play in EU. What builds did they play? Symbolic?

I do and don’t agree. The Ascension is a pvp back piece. It should involve all aspects of pvp which it pretty much does. It should make you pvp on all classes.
There’s no evidence that multiclassing makes the player better or more skillful. It’s a dumb requirement.
But let’s see how things will work, probably 2v2 will die on the custom arenas, it’s expected to be this way.
They made a “2v2 map”. This just tells me it’s a smaller version of Courtyard so… if they don’t make any tools to add in-game functions to make it a legit 2v2 custom arena then it’s going to be as popular as it is presently… not popular.
I truly hope they actually add map timers, round-robin, two stomp wins, winner stays till next round, etc etc. These are the tools; certain in-game specific rules, that players would like to incorporate for a solid 2v2 custom arena. Not Just a smaller Courtyard map.
Of course Anet could throw a curve ball at us and say, “There will now be 2v2 queuing during off Season.” /crossesfingers
You’ll now be able to select “Arena” in the custom arena options. In this mode, our 2v2 map is the only map option. It changes the rules to a “deathmatch” style game. No score, just kill the enemy. You can also select a number of rounds, a time limit, team size and some other options. Should the match get to the end of time, we have a mechanic to effectively shrink the playable area, and turn off healing and stealth, in an attempt to force players into combat.
