Yes but how do you explain how the Spirit of Bear was able to “cut off” Jora’s ability to shift then?
“The Bear Spirit is the most favored and strongest deity of the Norn. She offers the Norn power in their hunts and grants them the Bear Form.” – Gw Wiki
The ability to shift is a granted ability that can be taken away.

Casual 1v4 in WvW
Casual 1v3 in sPVP (5 30 mark)Im sorry but this class needs to be seriously looked at between now and launch unless you want to turn this into the new cancer. Nerf the skills in sPVP only if you must but currently Revenant is OVERPOWERED.
2x Stability stack on dodge? Multiple blocks, evades AND invulnerability on the same class.
First off, Try playing the Revenant first before making judgements.
Second, Wand is a god kitten monster that lives in WvW. He keeps MLGers up at night.
Third, Wand has been playing Revenant every BWE and has become quite skilled in both the class and people reactions to the class which is a large part of the Revenant power right now, being that it’s new.
Forth, Clearly, he is fighting people that are not… let’s say “Top Tier.”
Fifth, With the massive influx from F2P accounts, there are people running all over WvW that assume numbers automatically mean winning, but as Wand has clearly shown here, this is not the case. I can count about 4 times in that first fight alone where someone I would considered “skilled” in the classes of Mesmer or Engineer could have done considerable damage, but didn’t and my guess is because they aren’t on the same experience and skill level that Wand is.
And last but not least, Using montage videos, no matter who’s, as a reference point for balancing a video game is a horrible idea. It’s like using Facebook to compare how one person’s life is to another. All you see are the positive clips, all the Glory moments. You don’t see the other four hours of getting killed, wandering, and getting ganked that is a part of the unedited version of the video.

…. No, shape-shifting is not a part of their basic biology. It’s a magical gift granted on them by animal spirits, who are either really racist snobs about it, or the other races simply don’t buy into that religion enough to earn the perks… either way… it’s snobby.
Does this mean that Revenants are anti-religious? No Prayers, No Guns, No Spirits, no Science and No Tree-hugging hippy powers….
I think I just fell in love more with Revenant….
All kidding aside though, the racial elites were removed from the Revenant due to how the Rev cycles utility skills and the Racials were not balanced with that in mind. So to avoid a large balance issue, they simply cut it out.
No part of your Norn or any other part and anyone elses character was cut off int he making of your Revenant.
… That we know of.

After some more testing, I have to say again, I’d really like Brutal Blade to be turned into a AoE effect and not a projectile.
Terrain issues are brutal to projectile coded skills, and there is no difference here.
Please?

Trying to decided what is going to work before the community at large accually get a chance to sit down and go over the raid in an attempt to perfect your raid composition is…
Silly. Silly is the nicest word I could come up with.
Calm down, take a deep breath and play the content a bit. the numbers are clearly being worked on, so there is no need to min/max kitten this early. More so, with a complete lack of access to the content in question, all of this is just speculation.
Guild Leader of Covenant of the First Flame [Soul].
The Revenant sits in a rather interesting spot Feeling-wise.
Unlike the other professions, the Rev can quickly set up to counter or fight in a variety of ways, but it’s limited to choosing sets of abilities, as opposed to being able to cherry pick abilities.
Mobility – Shiro
Boons – Glint
Conditions – Mallyx
Healing – Ventari
Self Defense – Jalis
You can choose two of these at any time (once you unlock them of course).
In terms of Damage, that really boils down to your choice of weapons. Hammer for Range and AoE, Mace for Condi, Sword for Single Target and Staff for all around.
Combo Fields, while not as big of a thing as it is for the Elementalist, do play an important role for the Rev due to the lack of Boon-generation that other classes so easily come by (Assuming your not taking Glint).
Overall, I’d say the class is feeling strong. Strong enough that the current Meta is going to be disrupted by the Revenant showing up on the field, but not so strong that it will be #1 and akin to a god like being.
Guild Leader of Covenant of the First Flame [Soul].
This is an excellent ability and I’d like to see it buffed. Right now I can only teleport 1200 range with it towards a target far away. It lets me exit combat in WvW when I’m in trouble as long as there are targetable objects in the distance. It’s a good start but with further tweaking it can be fantastic. I’m getting PMs from people telling me to stop using teleport cheats so I think they should make the animation a bit more obvious for it so people know what’s happening.
It has no cool down and that’s good but it would be better if it cost less energy as I can really only do it instantly around 3 times or so.
For instance, thieves can teleport 2400 distance with shadow step (1200 going and then 1200 returning). I’d like to see Phase Transversal buffed to atleast 1500 range and maybe even add a trait to get it up to 2400.
What do you guys think? I’m going to main Revnant as my roaming class because I think when played well you’ll never die.

2: Nope, Elite specs are for HoT players only.
3: Maybe, you might have access to Pact Masteries, but the Jungle ones are for HoT players only.
4: The game will check and most likely kick you out of the jungle.
5: She is the Raid Dev Lead, I’d trust what she says.
6: Most likely.
7: Maybe. Good question.
8: Leaderborad are linked to specific adventures. I don’t think Jumping Puzzles are Adventures, and if they are, They are not linked together.
9: No idea, maybe, maybe not.
10: No, Raids are for HoT players only.
11: Revenant maybe, Elite Specs maybe, but the Mastaries are region locked.
12: Who knows, doubt it, given the lack of Underwater content in the jungle, probably not high on the list of animations to fix.

Can we finally remove some clunkyness from this stance? The tablet is absolutely horrible to move around. And while that is not only the problem, it’s also at an amazingly high cost. Only by spamming my tablet and some weapon skills I’m already very low on energy. This, along with the very slow and risky healing (very small radius) makes it a very high risk-low reward mechanic. The tablet at first needs to be much faster. This has been suggested many times and I honestly don’t see why this is a problem. It removes a lot clunky-ness from the tablet and makes it easier to move. Along with this the cooldown needs to be reduced to 1 second, the energy cost lowered to 5 and the base healing also reduced by a half. Obviously you can’t just spam 2.5k healings on a 1 second cooldown so cutting the heal in half is more than fine. And seriously guys, why can’t it become instant cast? I would also like to cast more than just my tablet constantly. It would also synergyze much better with #8, due that actually does cast while you’re casting skills. I’m sometimes stuck casting the skill but then I realise I have to give up my casting of whatever I’m casting (say, #3 sword) to move my dog… eh.. tablet to the position I want to.
Ok, while I agree with the overarching goal, I disagree on the given numbers on the matter.
Cut the heal in half? Or MORE?! You just got done saying you felt like the support wasn’t enough vs. decent Pvp’ers! I agree with the movement speed, and the cost reduction (Hell I think the tablet should just spawn when you swap to this legend in the first place, for free.) but less than half the healing? That would render this unusable for anyone outside of a healing build and gear.
- Protective Solace: Well.. Ehm.. Water field maybe? The absorbtion is at a very high cost. I really dislike light fields, as they are rather screwing up the field blasting in all forms of the game than actually helping them. Rather remove the light field from this skill, increase the cooldown to 10 seconds, reduce energy cost to 5 or 6 and upon exploding the projetile shield, give a waterfield based on the duration you have kept up the barier.
So say you have kept up the barier for 10 seconds and you release the barier, you will get a waterfield for 5 seconds. Don;t make the radius too big though. 240 or 360 is big enough since the blasting of water also adds another radius of 360.
With a cooldown of 10 seconds you can’t just spam it for waterfields, and let’s be honest: we have more than enough projectile obsorption skills. We really don’t need this on a 5 seconds cd.
Ok, Ummm… No.
I’m sure you know this, but giving Rev a Water Field is not happening. The whole reason it’s a light field is to keep people from planting a 10-15 second water field in WvW and making it nearly impossible to kill anyone! I would also argue your claim of a CD increase. I can think of a few time this last BWE that I really could have used a faster CD on Solace. Also, if you think the cost is high, clearly you haven’t had problems with Projectiles in this game.
- Natural Harmony: Ugh, radius… Honestly all radius skills of ventari are way too risky and allies most likely run out of your healing before they notice it. This could really need an improvement, if not done by a trait that increases the radius.
Everything the tablet does is radial, and the bigger it gets, the more like a mobile tank it becomes. The radius are small to prevent one Revenant from bunker a whole zerg. In 5-man content, the size is just fine, most people tend to stack anyway. I haven’t had a chance to try it in the raid setting yet, but I can tell you it will easily have use.
- Purifying Essence: Same goes for this skill basically. Radius too big. Energy cost could be reduced to 25, but not required.
I refer to my post above about radius, but I do agree the Cost needs to come down a bit on this one, or the condi removal or Heal need a pick-me-up.
- Energy Expulsion: This skill seems much more useful now it’s 35 energy cost instead of 50 and found myself use it often as support when I had nothing to heal but rather attribute by CCing.
Hadn’t considered the CC ability of the skill. I’ll keep that in mind thanks!
Mallyx:
The unique-ness of this legend has been removed completely and replaced with some mid-tier condition spec. The elite doesnt seem to have much effect and the legend really is only good if you fight someone with lots of boons.
Lots of boons, which would be everyone. Mallyx’s “Uniqueness” hasn’t been removed… and there is nothing enjoyable about wanting a stack of every condi in the game on you, so you can try for a few fleeting seconds to stack condi’s on others.
More over, this “Uniqueness” made using Mallyx outside of the Corruption Trait line a bigger hindrance then anything else, as Revs we possess less ability to handle Condis.
Everyone goes on and on about the uniqueness of Mallyx, but it wasn’t any different then a Corruption Necro and how many of those do you see running around?
Everyone always focuses on the loss of the Condi bomb, but I feel the real loss of Displacement if we are talking about flavor at all.
- Pain Absorption: Costs too much energy or it either needs an increased self-resistance per condition, or an increased AoE duration of resistance per condition transfered. Now Conditions are only transfered in a very minor way due RNG-trait, the conditions actually hurt you more by using this skill than you being able to make use of it.
This skill grants up to 8 seconds of Resist. 3 of those for just pushing the button. You also help Condi clear allies.
I do agree that this feels more like a 30 Energy skill, but I’m not seeing how we need more Resist time, more so with most Condi’s stacking Intensity now, very few of them will still be on you by the time Resist is up.
- Banish Enchantment: Decent skill. Not a big ‘’wow-factor’‘, but does it’s job by removing boons as revenant doesnt really have access to that.
Nor do Guardians. That said, I personally find a bit of a wow factor in this skill. 20e for Boon Breaking/Confusion branding. Maybe it’s because of my Guardian perspective, but this is pretty kitten awesome to me.
- Unyielding Anguish: so-so. It’s not an amazing skill but then again it does contribute to the pressure and mobility you can have. Energy could be reduced maybe to 25 as 30 feels a bit too much for this skill. Could also be lowered to 20 and have a short cooldown to prevent spamming.
It already has a Short CD, I do agree with the lowering of energy cost though. Then again, I might just be behind that on principle. I personally disagree, again, with you. I find this skill has an amazing job of spooking Dodges out of people so you can connect combos on this easily, Add the chill that increase their cooldowns… Sounds pretty kitten nice to me.
- Embrace the Darkness: Well… Just no. 10% is not really noticeable, energy cost is not too high for an elite skill but the functionality is not good for an elite skill. Elite skills are supposed to be strong with high cost. This is just another utility skill with some nice effects. Even Protective solance costs more than this ’’elite’’ skill… Ehh.. Let’s move on?
Just No what? 10% is noticeable… more so when you realize how the math works out.
Here is an example…
Full Zerker Armor and Jewelry on a Rev gives him these stats mind you, no weapons:
Power: 2382 + 10% (238 = little more than 6 Might stacks) = 2620
Percision: 1960(49% Crit Chance) = 10% (196) = 2156 (59% Crit Chance)
Ferocity: 960 (214% Crit Damage) = 10% (96) = 1056 (221% Crit Damage)
So 6 Might stacks of unremoveable Power, 10% Crit Chance and 10% Damage… For “Push button” and that not enough for you? As a Guardian, I would have killed every rabbit in Gundarren Fields for months to get an elite like this.
Your statement is that this “elite” skill doesn’t feel elite… Ask around, no Elite skill feels truly “elite.” So instead of playing a game of make-believe, we got a 4th utility skill that has a drastic effect on our everything, plus it pulses torment because Demon.
I’m sorry, but Yes. Just Yes.
Legendary King Jalis, hail the king!
Or let’s not, shall we? This ’’king’’ is most certainly not the king of all revenant stances due a few things: The stun break is very off and is practically useless. The stability is unreliable and almost useless. This is a massive factor that a tanky-support role needs. Something herald can actually provide akwardly enough…
You and I clearly disagree on a lot, but I think we are starting to get on the same page here. I do feel like Jalis, while in a good place at first, needs to play a little catch up now.
- Inspiring Reinforcement: Well this is not such kittene as many poeople already suggested: Stability on inital cast, pulsing stability road when layed down. This skill is so static and so bad, I don’t really know if I should cry or laugh when I get stopped 1v1 against a downed player because my road is still building to finish. I can’t wait nearly 2 seconds for stability that lasts shorter than the actual time to get it. I can better stomp someone and blind them at the right time in… drum sound herald! At least lovely herald is reliable… Another thing to note: This skill should seriously become instant cast and gain the stun break of the elite. It just doesn’t work on a 1.25 sec casting time, you know?
1.25 second cast? The hell are you getting that from? It has a ¼ sec cast. Yea the road takes some time to build, try not building it a mile away from your stomp target? I do agree the Stab needs to last at least one more second longer.
- Forced Engagement: Honestly, I didn’t really get my hands on using this, since there is practically any other skill similar but better than this skill in any other stance. Apart from that, you most likely wanna use jalis for the elite and possibly the hammers. By then you shouldn’t really have much energy to even remotely use this skill.
Again with the nonsense… this is one of the few “on-demand” slows in the game. On top of being a great Skill to peel with, both in PvE and PvP. Just because your personal fixated on Rite and Hammers, doesn’t mean this skill is bad or useless. I do agree about the cost, I think with the CD, this skill better fits with a 25 energy cost but this skill is far from useless. Coming from a Tank from Warhammer Online, Trust me, Taunts in PvP are insanely powerful.
- Vengeful Hammers: Still love this skill. No complaints
of all the skills… why is this the one you have no problem with? You expect me to believe the whole time you played with this skill you never ran across uneven ground, had this skill randomly shut off on you? There is a bug in this skill and it desperately needs to get worked out. When it is working, I agree, the effect and power of the skill is nice and in a good place. But that doesn’t mean the changes that were talked about before the BWE3 arn’t going to happen, I’d argue we are about two dev builds behind the current iteration of the Revenant.
- Rite of the ’’Great’’ Dwarf: Could just easily add 50% condition damage reduction to this too since the hammers has it too and the skill seriously could get a minor buff. Stun break would be removed and replaced to inspiring reinforcement.
Part of the cost of this skill is from that stun break, and again, being able to DR your entire crew isn’t enough for ya? Good gods man.
We will have to wait on Roy’s official word in a few weeks but i hope to see some solid Jalis changes.
I’d like to point out, that even though I don’t agree with you on many of your points, That I’m in no way trying to be disrespectful. We clearly have a difference of opinion and that’s alright.
It’s all feedback and I hope Roy and the team take everything into consideration.

While I agree Embrace the Darkness needs something to spice it up, Have you ever consider just how powerful that 10% Stat buff is?
That is not just power, it’s healing, health, armor, Condi Damage, Crit rate and damage…
Also, comparing one skill, even an Elite to Two skills working in concert is kinda unfair to the elite.

You, Sir, are my new personal Hero for the day.
Guild Leader of Covenant of the First Flame [Soul].
… Whoa… You put a fair bit of work into this post, and I thank you for that, however…
It seems that your willingly not mentioning a lot of other factors here, all of which do play into the skills.
- 1: Guardian’s Health Value is a direct result of the Guardian’s Virtue of Resolve, which is on almost always. It also has no bearing what-so ever on the weapons in question.
- 2: The Rev Hammer is the Rev’s only range weapon choice.
The Hammer is the only range weapon on the Revenant. Guardian Hammer is not a ranged weapon, it’s a Melee Crowd-Control weapon.
This effects a few things on your post, first the Range issue. There is supposed to be a difference in range. That is one of the defining factors of a ranged weapon.
Next, Your post is like comparing dagger on Elementalist to the Necromancer. The two weapons, while called the same thing, function drastically differently.
- 3: Multi-Hit Vs Single Hit.
Aside from the fact Anet claims this is new tech which was not available to them when making the other base classes, If you can only hit someone once, what does it matter that their are two other hits? Also, each of these hits are considerably weaker then Might Blow.
- 4: Energy is Irrelevant in this discussion.
Energy, while it matters to the overall gameplay of the Revenant, is in no way comparable to to anything on the Guardian. Therefore, total moot to bring up, much like the Guardian’s lower health pool.
- 5: CoR Vs Might Blow should be about the skills and their tool tips, and not the Trait-lines and talents of the two classes. If your going to mention Traits and other passive effects, and a perfectly modeled situation for CoR to shine in, you might as well also compared the damage of a Full Nomad Guardian’s Might Blow to a Full Zerk Rev’s CoR for all the accuracy your giving your argument.
While your post is very nicely set up, your focusing a a very small part of the overall picture and only mentioning evidence that supports your claim… instead of letting the evidence talk for it’s self and drawing it’s own conclusion.
Remind me to call you if I need a Lawyer.

I’m against making it targeted.
Takes the fun and skill out of it if you can just zip off in any direction without so much as a tell. That is just my personal feelings.
If you are falling off cliffs using it, that’s a “l2p” situation and I don’t mean that in a mean or condescending way… just stop using the skill near/facing cliffs and ledges or aim it better. Ground targeting wont fix that, you will still shoot off a cliff.
Guild Leader of Covenant of the First Flame [Soul].
I have friends coming back at launcher of HoT and am trying to determine Rev’s difficulty when they ask.
There are two ways to play the Rev, Legend Swapping a lot, or a little.
If they like Elementlist or Engineers, tell them it’s kinda like that, but with Thief’s Initiative.
If they like Warrior or Guardian, Tell them Legend Swapping doesn’t have to be the cornerstone of their game play if they play well and manage Energy better.
If they like Thieves, tell them it’s like, without stealth but heavy armor with a weird toolkit.
If they like Mesmers, Tell them the class is too easy for them to play.
;D
Guild Leader of Covenant of the First Flame [Soul].
You know the game is not balanced around 1vs1.
Quoted for Truth, Justice, and the American Way.
… Or at least the fact that the balancing in PvP is not built around 1v1, as mentioned many times over the last three years.
Guild Leader of Covenant of the First Flame [Soul].
The problem with Coalescence of Ruin, Phase Smash, Precision Strike, Echoing Eruption and other skills found in the game is that they travel along the ground to their target the same way a NPC would run over to knife you.
Three years of Guardian Torch goofiness has thought me well that these mechanics are a pain to get fixed if they ever do. The biggest problem is that due to the “traveling” these skill don’t actually have the full listed range. a 1200 skill is more like1150.
I have no idea how to fix this mind you, but I do know it has something to do with Pathing the effect to the target that makes this thing a real pain.

I noticed this bug too, There seems to be a small server side lag when it comes to the Energy system figuring out what it’s doing in new legends.
Also, Thanks Roy!
Guild Leader of Covenant of the First Flame [Soul].
The big problem here is that there are other classes that can and do keep up with others just as easily. Their is a precedent for this in game already.
Thieves, Mesmers, Warriors, Elementalist… All of whom can stick to some easily throughout a fight and even run away with next to nothing anyone can do unless they are one of these classes…
Now the Revenant follows suit.
Guild Leader of Covenant of the First Flame [Soul].
I’d like to start with that I disagree, I personally don’t have a problem with the healing from Crystal Hibernation nor the fact it was changed to a sustained block mechanic.
From a Dev stand point, Roy has on numerous threads stated that Revenants are supposed to be weaker vs. Condis. Trying to sneak one in under the guise of a nerf, while sneaky, is not going to happen.
Also, if this post is about Crystal Hibernation, don’t bring up Envoy of Exuberance, two different skills, and while they are on the same weapon, the skills purpose and balance should be left up to the individual skills them selves.
Second, your forgetting to mention the three second root this skill applies if your going for the full heal. If the person fighting against the Revenant has any vested interest in playing PvP well, they just use this time to set up large hit skills like Dragon’s Tooth. Outside of PvP, this skill barely registers as a heal and is more of a three second rooted block.
Third, back on the Pvp angle, most people’s basic auto attack crit can shave off 2-3k with a single hit and combos can easily reach 5k+. Adding a little healing power gives this skill vastly more sustainability at the cost of having to pick up healing power.
Last but not least, comparing it to the Warrior’s Shield Block, they can move while Blocking, but get no heal. I like the skill, it feel comparable to other skills of the same vain, but retains the Glint-theme uniqueness special to the Revenant.
Guild Leader of Covenant of the First Flame [Soul].
While I agree with the OP and many other here, I’d like to take a moment to point out something I think is not being taken into consideration.
The Voice Actress for Glint is an amazing fit. I think given Glint’s Personality that a appropriate voice actress was found, However, when Glint is supposed to be making noises that a Dragon makes (assuming dragons were real mind you you), those of us in the community request that the Sound Team make something appropriately bestial.
There are examples of this everywhere in media, and even the Death Dragon of Orr had some great effects.
Again, The Voice Actress is a great fit for the conversational lines.. but when it comes time to kick some kitten , we need that beastly side to come out!
Guild Leader of Covenant of the First Flame [Soul].
As a Guardian main since launch… I know the pain of getting your melee attack reflected because it has melee range projectiles… it’s dumb. What’s worse is that it makes the attack repeat because it didn’t actually connect, and it just gets reflected again. It’s counter intuitive as well.
At least create some kind of flag that makes those projectiles non-reflectable.
That’s the reason I made this post, or atleast the major reason, I don’t want to have to suffer though this anymore.
Holds up a protest sign No Melee Projectiles! No Melee Projectiles!
For the record, Revenant’s Sword AA 2 still goes through the AA sequence even if it’s reflected. There are two hits in the attack: First one ensures a hit because it’s a direct hit with the blade, second one is the projectile coming back. I tested it with a friend of mine in PvP and even inside a WoR, your enemy won’t make you reset the AA chain with reflects, like it happens with Guardian Sword AA 3. That said, I do agree that the first hit, by being a thrust, has less cleave potential so I would like to see it changed too.
Wow that’s great know! Thanks for testing that!
However, as you stated, We don’t want Melee Projectiles that are reflect-able!
I’d rather the attack cause stack 3 more vulnerability or 2 secs of weakness then have the projectile. That’s not to say I’m ungrateful for the work that went into it, mind you, but the functionality of the attack is cause for concern.
Holds up a protest sign No Melee Projectiles! No Melee Projectiles!
The AA sequence should be Slash to the left, Stab with the projectile, then a Slash to the right with Rift attack; though I’d love to see a spin slash on the 3rd attack.
Just my humble opinion.
The Stab with the projectile would be a nice throw back to the old NES Zelda days.
I could see that too! Hell of a nice toss back!
This is our most desperate hour (not really). Help us, Obi-Wan Roy. You’re our only hope.

Hopefully, people will be “test-minded” enough to form PUG raids and try them out from that perspective.

The condition output of his utilities skills were all reduced by one and his way of generating non-damaging conditions by applying them to himself and spreading them with embrace the darkness was removed.
Only one Utility Skill, Banish Enchantment, was docked on it’s confusion generation, but the low end of the skill was also bumped up so we have a better idea what the end effect is.
Your also forgetting the Chill and Torment added to Unyielding Anguish now that it doesn’t displace.
Yes, EtD was changed to compensate for the change to the idealogy of the spec. Let’s play with it, see how it feels, and if we still feel like we need a cripple or chill on EtD, let’s give feedback.
His only “flavor” was getting stronger with each condition on him; He has nothing but a heal that does not scale as well with conditions as it use to.
Your also forgetting that the base heal was increased as well.
Doing the math, the Heal has a higher bottom-end heal, evens out around 2 to 3 Condis. After 4, Yes, the old Heal was stronger, but was that really useful? You still have on conditions on, and once outside of Resistance, that could really screw you up.
What if your in a fight that is mostly physical effects and little to no conditions? Would it not be a pain to have to apply your own conditions to get a decent heal?
What if they add a trait that increase the damage you do to a target when they have conditions on them? (Hint Hint Roy!)
Out of the dozens of revenants I saw last beta, only two or three used Mallyx instead of Shiro/Glint in sPvP. If the other stances were allowed to use resistance, Mallyx would see even less play.
If we set aside that Glint was the new sauce added to that weekend, and that the portion of Beta Testers that played in sPvp was a sub section of those that play tested and that the only ones you saw using Mallyx are some how the only ones that used Mallyx, and that mobility has always and will always be a massive part in Pvp (in any game/game-mode really).
If you set all that aside.. your personal observation of how other people are using the class is cause for concern. However… I doubt that your personal experience is indicative of the whole scope here. I know a lot of people that only ran PvE or WvW, and they tried out Mallyx. I even fall into this group.
We now have a set of utilities that we can use comfortably without needing to pick the connected trait lines for, meaning it might actually see more use now that it doesn’t feel like your kneecapping yourself.
Also, how can he apply massive conditions when the stance only applies a few stacks of confusion and melee ranged torment now? Even zerker warriors have enough condi cleanse to ignore that
What if Condi-Bombing is not how the team want Mallyx to be used? What if we could post feedback to increase the range, types, intensity of conditions EtD applies?
What is the downfall of any Condition based tactics? A Character set up to clear conditions. Why should this be any different for Revenant? Besides, it’s not like we arn’t bleeding Torment out of every orifice and couldn’t just reapply it all in a matter of seconds thanks to our low CD skills.
Even a Druid in all their Condi-Clearing glory would have a hard time doing anything else BUT clearing condi’s vs Mallyx.
Even if you take a Guardian Shout Spec, set up to remove 2 Condis Passively on a ten second timer, on top on their shouts, with solider runes, You could still Condi him to death.
At some point, you have to decide which one wins: The Immovable Object or the Unstoppable Force. GW2 has been clearly choosing the Unstoppable Force since Launch and this hasn’t changed. Fast, rapid Condi application will always beat out Condi-clearing mechanics due to their larger CDs.

I agree with #1, #2 is direct conseguence.
About #3 i’m really happy, is not a massive new professional mechanic but we are the only class aside thieves to be able to use a mechanic like that.

You don’t feel the old version of Mallyx wasn’t massive counter-intuitive to how the rest of combat works across all professions, and how it work with the rest of the legends?
Condis’ are supposed to be bad. There is nothing wrong with focusing on generating our own conditions.
Has it lost a little flavor Yes, but it’s not completely devoid.
Mallyx still has the one State-Change, is still the strongest vs Conditions, still provides Resistance (Which personally, I think should be the first Minor Trait, and work outside of Demon Stance), and still causes massive Conditions.

I can’t recall how many times I have been attacking a object in the game world (Like a Gate, Door or some other object that isn’t a NPC), and I get to watch my Guardian do Sword Wave three times, each time hitting nothing because… Glitched projectile skill is glitched.
I hope we don’t have to suffer the same thing on Revenant… Hell, I kinda wish they’d go back and fix it on Guardian too, but I’m not getting my hopes up.
Please! Don’t Let Revenant suffer from this issue!
Guild Leader of Covenant of the First Flame [Soul].
Glad to know I’m not the only one that feels this way!
Guild Leader of Covenant of the First Flame [Soul].
I hear ya man. Three years of Sword Wave nonsense tends to make one a little… touchy around projectile melee attacks.
Please Roy! Save us!

The only reason I can see Druid being better then Ventari is the lack of a need to micro-manage the Tablet.
At lest the Pet does some Dps before getting mauled to death. The Tablet just sits there.. staring at you… cold… uncaring… Lifeless.
Staring at you… Always….

As the title says, I have a few things that I really wanted to bring up and see if anyone else feels the same way.
#1: Brutal Blade – Sword Auto-Attack Chain 2: While I find this skill personally fun, I’m concerned about Perma-Reflect Mobs and Reflects in general. An Example of this would be the Jade Golems in the Jade Sea Fractal.
Not only does a reflect cause you to rip your own face off, but it also prevent the Chain from completing. While I can’t think of many places this outright cripples the Sword, As a Guardian for the last 3 years, I know the outright pain of having a projectile skill on a melee weapon and how it decides to work only when it wants too. Please reconsider how this skill work!
Possible Changes:
Make the attack shoot out a Cone of mist for 1 to 1.5 times the damage of the current projectile.
Have the skill cause Cripple too, but remove the projectile.
#2: Sword Auto Attack Animations: Anyone else feel kind of clumsy when it comes to swinging the sword around?
Personally, I get that we are trying to make the Rev not feel like a Guard or a Warr, but… I’d prefer to not feel like a wild beast swinging my sword around. I’d also love to get some of the less used melee attack animations in there.
Possible Changes:
First: Standard Sword Swing
Second: the Thrust
Third: Dual Strike from off-hand Ax 4 Warrior
Ok, I know the overhead swing is kind of out of the box and all, but here is my reasoning.
1: Ripping an hole into the Mist can’t be easy.
2: The animation itself is underused.
3: It would be amazing with any of the off hand weapons! (Look over some of the shield’s, they are almost weapons!)
This also works well with Brutal Blade as mentioned above, a thrust can both throw the blade (if it stays the same) or push out mist energy (if it was to change).
#3: Herald – Profession Mechanic not feeling like a new functionality.
One of the biggest concerns with the class has been variety, given how the legend skill sets are limited so much more than anyone else. The lack of new functionality in Herald worries me.
I am making this post after the Druid Live Stream, and it got me thinking… Our “new profession mechanic” doesn’t really feel… Elite… New… or otherwise. Before other form-goers begin to protest, I understand that the Boon Duration Buff is awesome, but this just doesn’t feel… like a new mechanic or functionality.
In review, the New Profession Mechanics are:
Facet of Nature (Boon Duration upkeep, Mini Save your Self buff)
Physical Virtues (Spear, Wings, Barrier)
Primal Rage (Condi/Range Burst skills req. 1/3 normal Ada to use.)
Tool-belt (Changes Functionality with new Utilities)
Daredevil’s 3rd Dodge Bar
Celestial Form (Druids Trans)
Overloads (Attunement Tool-belt Skills)
Continuum Split/Unique Boon (Save State Mechanic, and Alacrity)
Reaper Shroud Skills (Melee Focused Shroud Skill)
In each case, Aside from Facet of Nature, The New Mechanics provided a different functionality. Our beloved Facet doesn’t. It’s just an Upkeep Skill, something we already use liberally in our base mechanics. The other thing is, the Facet barely plays well with the other Legends. It feels like it is mostly there to buff the other Facet skills.
I understand the Revenant is the new kid on the block and is already sitting so far outside the typical class mechanics, but if it’s not given the same treatment as the other classes, I fear we will be playing catch up for years. (Here is looking at you Condition Countering Gameplay).
Possible Changes:
Honestly, I have been thinking about this for days now and I…
Got nothing.
Yep, I got nothing. Most of the ideas I have had are just rehashing things from other classes. I’m worried that future Elite Specs won’t allow for room for new functionality outside of their specific legend, and if that was the plan all along, I’d at least like to hear Roy say so.
In closing, these are clearly minor issues, but it would be nice to know other people’s thoughts! … especially Roys’

Suggestions:
1: Reward Tiers should be based on Zone Event Completion, Not some buff applied to each person (This has led to massive “Tag and Run” zergs and would fix this in the same breath.)
2: Lower the “Time to Reward” ratio… a great deal of people are rather unhappy about having to give up our entire weekend just to grind for the Pots. As of this posting, I still have over 8 hours left just to get one of the pots.
3: Stop with the “Southsun” Syndrome the Events Team seems to have… Small Time Frames plus Massive Grind in laggy zone servers does not equal a good time, nor does it help generate good interest in the game. This event reminds me of the first Halloween and Southsun events, which has/does/is hurting the game.
4: Host more events that bring back old Currencies (SAB anyone?) so that people holding on to old things don’t feel like it was a waste of time (Which this event has quickly become.)
5: Make a Lesson’s Learned Book and have it read, out loud, before the event teams begins to make anything more. Really… this event is a major step back for this game, and I’m (and others) quite disappointed by it.
I tried to get people in the guild to get back on to play with me in the event, and after explaining the event and the rewards, I got zero interest.

Do you have a back story if so what is it?
After bringing down Zyatan, My Guardian lead a group to go recover the body, some kitten happened, which lead to my Guard breaking Sunrise, and getting pulled into the mist.
Unable to get out, he wondered around until he ran into Rytlock (Who had already become The Revenant), and they work together to get out. Afterwords, my Guard decided he needed more/new power to fight the dragons, something they couldn’t corrupt. The Mist was the answer.
What race are you going with?
Human
What weapons are really tickling your fancy?
Sword Shield/Hammer
Maybe Staff, can’t really make a judgement call till I have my hands on it
What is your favourite legend?
The supposed Glint, Jalis, and Shrio
How are you going to make your Revenant look?
Having castes off the idea of defending, and looking to make sure the next dragon he puts down doesn’t get a chance to move, much less retaliate, I’m going for something full-body, aggressive, and spikey.
Is it now going to be your main or just an alt?
That all depends on how the numbers play out and if I can figure out how to play the class well enough…

A link i posted up..Briliant
If not signets then wtf is that? Spectra, survival or physical skills?
Mantras?

I still enjoy my Guardian, and I’m looking forward to getting him into Dragon Hunter.
The changes to Guardian after the Spec Lines has been a breath of fresh air for me, and I feel finally, like my guard is in a spot where I like him.
That said, The Revenant is what I thought my guardian was going to be. More Ritualist, less Paragon, Heavy Armor, Magic-wielding nightmare….
So now, I get to main two characters… Life is rough man.
Very Rough.
Sidenote Devs, give me a release date, and I’ll give you my money… But I want your kitten on the record so when I get bent the hell out of shape because of a push back, I can feel valid in my anger!

Disclaimer: I have not bought the Expansion yet. The Revenant is really the only draw for me personally about this Expansion, which is why I feel strongly about making this class as viable as possible.
I have not played the Revenant personally, although I have been reading the forums, talking with people and done test in-game with friends that have pre-ordered.
From all the feedback, both in and out of game about the Rev, there seems to be one constant complaint that applies to almost every feedback thread…
“The Revenant is more Form over Function then anything.”
The Weapons (arguably the biggest component to how any class functions in combat) are so closely tied to the Legend Utilities, and Trait Lines that using any kind of combination of the above, utterly cripples the Revenant’s ability to perform in combat in any role.
Now, if anyone is reading this, and you don’t agree, that’s fine! No changes or updates to the Revenant have happened, despite feedback from past betas, so, perhaps things are still in the works.
Another big word people seem to be reaching for but not quite getting to is “Synergy”.
Even the Guardian and Necromancer have cross-trait/weapon functionality, and I believe this is because they were built, as all the “vanilla classes” were, based on the mechanics of the game (Conditions, Power, AoE etc.) and not a theme (You are channeling the power of some long dead guys).
The Revenant needs to be refocused to work with the existing combat structure, and not soldier-alone lore. My suggestion is to increase the inter-play within the trait lines themselves, weapon skills and traits need be altered to work together outside of their “lore” defined constraints, to build a stronger character, and not so rigidly tied to a single set of skills.
An example of this could be the Zeal, Radiance, and Honor Trait Lines from Guardian. Although they “focus” on three different aspects of the game mechanics (Power, Condi, and Buffing), they can all be blended to build a powerful Power or Condi Spec.
Thanks for reading, if you did… I like Gw2, and would like to have a strong reason to pre-order the game, but as of right now, it’s just not going to happen for me.
TL;DR Version
The Reveant needs some inter-play with itself, weapon skills and traits need be altered to work together, to build a stronger character, and not so rigidly tied to a single set of skills.
More Function, Less Form, and more inner-synergy in the specialization lines.*

Would be a hell of a reason to buy the Expac though…

Aside from the fact that almost no one posting on this forum or any other site actually possesses the authority to change this name, dispute massive verbal protesting by a minority, I’d like to go out on a limb here and state that I like the name.
We are getting Longbows and Traps, and it’s hard not to associate those with your typical fantasy Hunter seeing how fantasy books, PnP Tabletop and even games typical adhere to these things belonging to what are called “Hunters”.
Does Light Magic and Plate Armor typically get mixed in with Bows and Traps? No, but then again, neither does bending time and illusions. Anet is just trying to make their own mark on world with a new unique spin on the idea of the traditional Hunters… If anything, people should be supporting this!
TL;DR: I like the name, and I hope the keep it.
