Mesmer: YES YES YES YES YES!
Everyone else: NO NO NO NO NO NO!
I think thieves would actually appreciate it especially with the new Pulmonary Impact trait.
Or you know, remove the tier checkpoints on emerald and sapphire.
I like the tier checkpoints, though maybe they could remove a few in Sapphire. Reaching a new tier is an appreciable goal; it’s like playing a mini boss fight, and the end of division fight is the end boss.
They could turn Sapphire into a 6-tier division (not sure if it is already) and only have the checkpoints at the end of tier 2 and 4. 10 pips would still be very hard to luck your way through.
One thing I try to do is get the Obsidian Sanctum JP done daily, it gives you something like 12-20 badges for about 5 minutes of effort.
why is any of this, at any point, ok? who let this through the development process? why were skills with ridiculous utility also given ridiculous damage while weapons like Thief’s shortbow only offer passable utility at a steep cost of damage?
I wanna know why they thought Rocket Charge was fair and balanced. Screw Daredevil’s bonus dodges, the real dodge MVP is Scrapper.
If it’s really that big a deal they could just add a couple more tier-loss leagues in between.
That’s the point.. They’re too strong because they take too long in pvp..
Take too long or last too long?
If they took longer to channel or had a bigger tell they’d probably be a lot more palatable.
I kinda like them. They’re big, painful AoE effects that you definitely absolutely want to stand out of, when most AoE in the game you don’t really care about.
ZudetGambeous has a lot of good points.
One thing I’d like to add is that the current stat spreads in the PvE meta do not use any of the T6 materials other than Blood for Berserker’s; Assassin’s has some viability but not much. Sinister uses Charged Ambrite, and all of the HoT stat spreads which tend to be better than the vanilla stat spreads use the new HoT materials. Thus, nobody uses those T6 mats (other than Blood and to a lesser extent Claws) for armor, having a knock-on effect to T5 because of unfavorable material promotions.

I reckon they should add something like +Karma in the same vein as salvaging items gives +MF or doing the monthly chart gives +Gold.
I hope you’re kidding. Stronghold is way more broken than Conquest atm.
It’s broken in a new and exciting way!
The timegate is the 15-day Daily League Participator achievement. There are no other timegates.
Yes, but say you get from amber to diamond all within the first few days of the first league, don’t you gain zero credit towards the later tiers “clear four division” achievements until you complete the previous tiers entirely?
No, you do get credit. If you read the rest of my post, you would have read this.
The idea of someone who simultaneously enjoys Ranked play enough to want to push the Legendary while not being able to push Daily Participator or League Divisions over what is presumably 220 days of Leagues is quite perplexing.
You need to enjoy ranked play exactly “zero amount” in order to want to progress the Legendary. The two things have absolutely nothing whatsoever to do with each other. Now, if there were alternate methods of earning the wings, then you would have a point, but so far they haven’t announced any (that might have to change, of course).
Blah blah blah I’m forced to do PvP for a cosmetic thing that doesn’t matter nobody cares Ohoni.
Yeah, well of darkness does seem like complete junk atm. I dunno what I’d do with it though; reducing the cooldown seems kinda eh. Give it some actual damage ticks or a stunbreak or another condition maybe as well as a CD drop. Or give friendly players inside it perma evades :^)
While we’re on the subject of crappy wells… How bout dat well of blood? I know Well of Eternity’s an elite spec Well, but it’s ridiculous how far behind Well of Blood is.

I don’t really expect that they’ll ever add Solo Q. The queues were merged for a reason, and I don’t think they’ll change their mind on it any time soon.
You were favored to win and you lost. I’d have to check the table but you have to be 1-59% predicted to win to not lose a pip with such a close match.
Yes, but there is a timing problem. There will only be four seasons, right? And you can’t advance a later tier without completing the earlier one, right? And there is a time-locked requirement, meaning you can’t possibly complete more than two tiers per season, I believe?
There is a timegate but it is not as you say.
The timegate is the 15-day Daily League Participator achievement. There are no other timegates.
As per the wiki, the season started on the 1st of December and will end on the 25th; the season will therefore last for 56 days. It is thus possible for you to have unlocked and completed every Year of Ascension achievement except the fourth set of Daily League Participator achievements, which you would have 11/15 for- though you would need to make hardcore progress on your Leagues to do this, needing you to get at least Legendary*2. Unlocking T4 by the end of Season 2 would be very comfortable, as you only need to push to Ruby twice to get there.
Also some of the achievements don’t need you to push the meta to push the next tier of achievement; the two in particular I can think of are the Essence lines and the Division line.
So chances are a lot of people won’t find themselves on the Tier 4 achievements until the 4th league season, and thus would HAVE to complete the objective within that season if they want it cleared at all.
You’re assuming that everyone plays at the same pace as you do. I find the more realistic blocker to be League progress overall rather than the timegate.
The idea of someone who simultaneously enjoys Ranked play enough to want to push the Legendary while not being able to push Daily Participator or League Divisions over what is presumably 220 days of Leagues is quite perplexing.

The mindblowing irony here is players stick around a game because they hear about a tough achievement they set out to accomplish: hone their skills, refine tactics, and obtain the reward but other players instead of meeting the content’s bar (giving us motivation to improve which is where much of the fun comes in) they want the bar lowered to meet their skill level.
Lots of skill based weapon and armor skins need to be in the game so other players think, “I want that!” and set out and put forth the effort to earn it.
I don’t know about mindblowing. Honestly, it seems utterly pedestrian to me.
It’s bizarre, though, seeing as you can make your way to Ruby each season purely through playing enough games. It’s nowhere near actually hard if you have a faint understanding of how the game works.
(edited by Sarrs.4831)
I don’t see why that should be done…You aren’t going to be just as good in multiple game modes nor are you going to know the best tactics for each situation in every game mode. It should be separate.
But clearly that means that someone who does know the best tactics for each situation in every game mode is the greatest player alive.
Which is what the leagues are for, right? To find out who is the very best that ever was?
They should, honestly, seperate conquest and stronghold divisions. They aren’t the same game mode and shouldn’t be considered the same as far as divisions go.
I think if anything, they should consider doing the opposite, and remove the selection option between Conquest and Stronghold. Surely being a master of all game modes should be the only way to become Legendary.
Oh also they should add Courtyard to ranked :^)
Then the necro/reaper have a bad timing to be unable to hit Ghastly Claws and break the threshold. Heck even with dagger you can do that.
If the necromancer needs to use a full channel of Ghastly Claws to break your DS, then you’ve probably already won, because an Ele with vigor gets dodges faster than the Necro gets back Ghastly Claws and you can safely ignore the Necro AA because chances are you heal faster than the damage it does.
And Dagger is better for damage than axe. If you can stick on the DS with a dagger you’ll probably blow through the DS but the problem is sticking on them.
Stronghold is good because why would you want to play high-end Conquest?
5. another Elite spec (I’m doubtful)
I’d be very surprised if they didn’t have ideas on the board. They’re just waiting for the current meta to settle before they introduce new elite specs and ruin it again :^)
I think nah because it’s already not terrible in WvW and it could be really strong when used in Stronghold.
Necros, maybe.
Reapers, no.
Give a bow to a new elite spec, I think. That’s what they’re for.
Your first point is moot. They may be helpful, but they aren’t essential. Abundance of active defenses are irrelevant, especially as ele only has earth 5 providing brief invulnerability if he runs focus.
It’s hard to pinpoint where “helpful” becomes “essential”. There are a lot of factors in PvP, and controlling conditions can be what tips the fight from an out-sustained attacker into a dead bunker.
And yes, active defenses are very relevant, including Elementalists. They have good access to Vigor and Protection, they have several immune frame options including Earth 5 and Mist Form, and their auras provide massive defensive benefits in projectile reflection and damage reduction. There’s also the Air one that destroys projectiles; of course, it’s part of default ele and not purely a tempest thing, but the defenses stack up.
Second point, highly unlikely. Power necro/reaper is the only power build affected by diamond skin, they are also not meta simply for the fact that they do not perform well against other meta builds as well. Not a diamond skin exclusive issue.
There’s only one meta power build: Scrapper Marauder.
Third point, I pay attention. All the time. But do entertain me and give a few examples where being immune to controlling conditions at above 90% hp against a pure power build gives me a significant advantage?
…Any time when a pure power build runs a controlling condition to initiate a fight?
I dunno. A Berserker Warrior running Bloody Roar tries to initiate with Berserk?
Any Necromancer ever?
A Ranger tries to use either doggy to secure a Rapid Fire?
I know what you’re thinking: none of these builds are meta. But there’s only one, arguably two power builds which are meta, and they’re Scrapper Marauder and Dragonhunter Meditrapper, and they both have very few controlling conditions.
1. The power user requires soft cc to land majority of it’s damage
With the extreme abundance of evade, block and other defense frames, soft CC including immob, chill and weakness is extremely helpful in securing direct damage.
2. The power user is unable to drop the ele below 90% hp before applying said conditions
Depending on the class, this is entirely possible. Necromancers in general are highly dependent on using controlling conditions including Fear to secure their damage.
If either were false, your argument would be moot. Like it is. So no, there is likely no advantage that diamond skin provides against power builds. And if any, it is minute and definitely not a HUGE advantage.
If you really think that being immune to controlling conditions above that health threshold, which you are likely to be in at multiple times in a fight even against a pure power user, has absolutely no effect, you are not paying attention.

Ironically Tempest meta is what is keeping many other specs from being nerfed
With no more aoe protection/heal/condi clear…all who talk now will see their dear spec being nerfed hard, as everybody would start abusing the kitten out of reaper/DH and the rest.
Powercreep has been a massive issue with this expansion and balancing the broad majority of new specs added in the expansion downwards sounds like a very good idea.
Problem: Legendary queue time is so high because there aren’t many legendary full teams on at once. So people manipulate the queue system by getting their friends or team to play on lower division accounts. It diminishes the teams combined division rank, right? This is also problematic because it allows players to get an easy pip over and over until they are legendary.
Hold up.
The problem is that not many people are queuing in legendary because there aren’t many legendary players
Yet the bandaid fix people are using is getting more people into legendary, therefore meaning there is less of a problem?
This problem seems self-fixing.
I think it needs more counterplay. I think this:
Diamond Skin
If you are affected by a condition while above the health threshold, gain Resistance.
Resistance: 5sec
Health threshold: 90%
Cooldown: 5sec
Slight buff to Warriors through Destruction of the Empowered. Big buff to every class with boonsteal, boonstrip or corruption.
Personally I find DH silly because the new f1-f3 are flat upgrades over the old virtues instead of different f1-f3, like how Reaper Shroud is a replacement for Death Shroud. They’re different abilities, they have different names, I don’t understand why they’re basically Virtue+1.
All of these autodefenses, immune frames, and plain powercreep from some of the elite specs is really not fun to play against.
Will Stronghold be MLG? At least Doorbreakers don’t have that many evade frames.
Comparing it to Reaper’s Protection. Fear and Taunt are very similar effects and Reaper’s Protection has no boon applied, an extra 15 seconds on the cooldown and 2/3rds the duration.
If Eye for an Eye had the same it would probably be a lot more palatable but a 3sec effect is so kitten long.
Could be fun if they turned those lords into Stronghold lords with Defiant bar and stomping.
Fair as in I’ve only lost one game out of the last 10 listed, all but one being Stronghold. It seems people haven’t really come to grips with it as much as they have with Conquest.
Also builds which depends on the smaller NPCs, Reaper in particular and Necromancers in general to a lesser extent, do better on Stronghold. Not necessarily more or less fair, they just do better than they otherwise would.

Shadowstep isn’t “running really fast” it’s stepping through the mists.
What are you talking about, the JP is what bothers you, Not the drinks? The JP is one of he easiest ones in the game. It takes you about 3 minutes to finish each run. It just takes a a bit of practice. If this JP is bothering you they you clearly haven’t tried out the actual ones in the game.
I’d probably say it’s actually kinda tough because of the time limits. Most of the JPs in the game give you time to look where you’re going but this one puts you on a time limit.
Not that that makes it actually hard. It’s just harder.
I fought a team with two bunker tempests not long ago, we won through points by Stability on the hero channeling and good treb use on the incoming doorbreakers. The treb is really how you push through those buffed doorbreakers.
I kinda wonder if the treb is/should be able to hit through Precog.

I think I know what is causing this behavior but I would have to check.
I’m fairly certain it’s because Lightning Rod is triggering before the interrupting effect. Therefore when Lightning Rod activates, the target is still evading/blocking, and the target is not disabled, which means they don’t take the bonus damage from Tempest Defense.
This would also explain the “lightning rod going nuts on downed necrobot” as Lightning Rod’s proc is activated on any disable while only certain disables actually occur on downed targets.
Should be easy to check in the combat log. I’m not sure if I’ll have time soon but if someone else can have a look that’d be great.

I’m fairly confident it’s packet loss/degradation.
It’s just this game and it sucks. I have no problems playing WoW or SWTOR but in GW2 it feels like every 3rd/4th match I play I spend 1/5th of the match completely unable to do anything. I don’t know if my longest dead connection has been several minutes, but I have definitely had a dead connection for about a minute in a single game.

I think current Endure Pain is not too bad. The automatic Endure Pain is pretty much an auto-pick and it is quite strong.
I think the big issue with all Warrior stances is that you can pretty much never take the Stance trait because it competes with Cleansing Ire. That’s not necessarily bad, it’s just a meta thing, and honestly if we see a viable bursty warrior pop up it may be worth taking Stances over Cleansing Ire.
I think this is the policy. By purposely losing to try to juke their MMR they are match fixing which is a permaban.
These ’’pros’’ are paid by them, the real pros are doing Solo-Q without being cheap.
Now that Stronghold is back we can do a lot of sidestepping of these ‘toxic’ builds.
I had a bunker Tempest chase me for an entire game tickling me and we won ezpz
Nerf.
Just looking at MetaBattle, you’re either nerfing 5 builds into the “great” category, or buffing at least 16 builds into the “meta” category.
It’s simple math.
“Ventari is the real meta, Mallyx and Shiro are just a phase”
Mind you don’t need to do just champs for this farm. Any event will do.
You can also get the Pact Mapping Thingos from Pact Supply Guys and use them in FGS for free money.
I’m honestly not even sure what to say. The whole POINT is that both are equally nonsensical in that there’s nothing behind either.
And if that’s the point you’re trying to make, then you’re using poor examples. You say "To claim that there is a large population that would care about having couches be denied to them is reasonable, " and then assert that you could substitute “rocking chairs” and the statement would be equally reasonable. That isn’t true. I would guess that almost 100% of households have at least one sofa, probably more sofas than households overall. Rocking chairs, on the other hand, are a more niche product, probably well less than 75% of the households that own a couch own a rocking chair, perhaps even as low as 10%.
If you attempted to deny people access to sofas, there would, as a fact, be far more opposition than if you tried to deny them access to rocking chairs. This is why you can’t just use your “logical framework” excuse, it is only as valid as the specific variables at play.
You’re looking at this sofa/rocking chair question from the wrong angle. It’s far more reasonable to assert that rocking chairs should be readily available compared to sofas because rocking chairs have a much shorter production cycle and are much cheaper. Rocking chairs are primarily composed of a single material, wood, while sofas go through several cycles, including woodworking and upholstery.
Of course, this depends on the definition of ‘rocking chair’. You could hypothetically assert that the common office chair is also a rocking chair, as they tend to be capable of rocking forwards and backwards. You could almost consider the office chair to be a natural evolution of the rocking chair, as it is not only capable of rocking, but also of spinning and for wheeled variants, locomotion.
In this case, there are many, many more rocking chairs than there are sofas because the industrial and commercial demand for rocking chairs would far outstrip the almost purely commercial demand for sofas.
Secondarily, if we are to use the office chair interpretation of rocking chair, we must take into consideration business interests. Most modern states around the world pay extra attention towards business and corporate interests rather than consumer interests, and they would be very unhappy if their office chairs were removed from them unduly.
Now that it’s been suggested in the thread, I actually am very curious about a Warrior which uses Signet of Might to break through the Chronomancer’s Echo of Memory/Deja Vu. It’s an interesting check, especially when Warriors can have two Sig of Mights and they have such a short cooldown.
I dunno, I can comfortably splatter Dragonhunters on my MM Soldier Necro. If you can survive the initial burst of the traps they kinda just run of steam.
Why
Why focus on this one throwaway reference/joke at the exclusion of the entirety of the main argument?
Why ignore my refutation of your insistence on grouping (since I already do it).
Why misread my words and then comment on them with dismissive authority?
Look, if you disagree, that’s fine. But why post at all if you’re not going to contribute to discussion?
Not an answer to the question.
I mean, ANet is trying to mind control you by manipulating the pip system for ranked matchmaking? Bit silly.
Yeah, it is silly. Hence why I never said that.
Why bring it up at all
