The State of Obsidian Sanctum

in WvW

Posted by: Sarrs.4831

Sarrs.4831

Don’t care about the rest, but

  • Allow the end chest in Obsidian Sanctum to be opened once a day, per character, per account.
This is how it used to be. This will incentivize coming to the map for a lot players.

Yes please. The bonus WvW stuff you get from completing the puzzle makes it nowhere near worth the extra time it takes to run the JP. 10 Badges of Honor and a couple pieces of siege; whoopdedoo. You can get both of these things, as well as ranks and money, by training in EOTM.

Also putting OS in the same matchmaking style as EotM might undercut the arena’s value as a GvG arena.

January 27th Necromancer balance changes

in Necromancer

Posted by: Sarrs.4831

Sarrs.4831

Nightmare rune change might be a nerf but it’s a good change. The fear stacking you could get with them was ridiculous.

Looking over the rest, they seem fine I guess. The only skill that’s currently used and has been slated for change AFAIK is warhorn 5.

I think in context necromancers will be quite healthy with the nerfs to Might stacking. Necro might stacking for PvP wasn’t all that hot. It’s a non-trivial hit to Blood is Power, though.

Holy Trinity Question

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Sarrs.4831

I’m actually kinda unsure what function armor class serves as a game mechanic. There are a few I can think of:

Economic padding: Heavy armor requires metals, medium armor requires lots of leather, light armor requires lots of cloth.
Achievement padding: You need to get all three sets of skins for the dungeon-specific armor sets, for example.
Class flavor: It doesn’t make much sense for a Thief to sneak around in full plate armor, or for a Warrior which is a class all about big guts and big weapons and big armor to be running around in a dress.
Increases ascended demand: You can share your Zerk’s Light armor between all three light classes, but you’ll need another set for Medium and another for Heavy.

How would you fix Death and Blood magic?

in Necromancer

Posted by: Sarrs.4831

Sarrs.4831

Unfortunately, Anet is probably not going to do that. Necros tend to be last on the new stuff list.

I wouldn’t be too pessimistic. We were the first class to get a new skill and new condition added to the game, and Death Magic’s already gotten a minor revamp, so they could be paying attention.

How would you fix Death and Blood magic?

in Necromancer

Posted by: Sarrs.4831

Sarrs.4831

Blood Magic doesn’t work depending on a trait-by-trait breakdown.

- Vitality – Nice.
- Healing Power – Not so nice. As with most builds, Healing Power is only favored by specific builds which can exploit it.

- Full of Life – Decent, but doesn’t really jive with our class mechanic.
- Vampiric – Hard to see the benefits of. In a sustain game it could hypothetically do decently. Also doesn’t jive with our class mechanic.
Blood to Power – Very restrictive damage boost, doesn’t come into play too often.

- Dagger Mastery – Dagger skills are split among different roles, so it’s not too often that you’ll use both. It also doesn’t stack up compared to most other popular -weapon CD traits, as it doesn’t have any secondary benefit.
- Bloodthirst – This trait does not have the weapon, utility or trait support to shine.
- Mark of Evasion – The ICD and Necromancer’s low access to Vigor means that this trait can’t really be abused. It’s okay, but only that.
- Ritual of Life – Very few “on revive” traits are viable or valuable. This one doesn’t make the cut.
- Vampiric Precision – Hypothetically valuable if the stat spread was there to support it, but it isn’t, so it’s not. Doesn’t jive with our class mechanic.
- Transfusion – Good for MM.
- Vampiric Master – Good for MM.
- Ritual Mastery – Traits which only provide utility CD reductions are usually only viable when there are other strong supporting traits. Wells don’t have them.
- Deathly Invigoration – Might seem good conceptually, but it’s too difficult to access and simply doesn’t provide enough healing. It’s hard to exploit this trait.
- Quickening Thirst – It’s rare that you’ll use enough daggers to make this really shine over your other means of moving faster. This is scraping the absolute bottom of the barrel when it comes to mobility.
- Fetid Consumption – Decent-ish in an MM build, though I don’t believe it’s popular. Would have to check.
- Vampiric Rituals – Grandmasters usually provide either huge meat-and-potatoes benefits to skills or significantly alter how skills work. This is a very small bonus to damage and healing. It doesn’t have the meat to make it work, and it’s too expensive.
- Unholy Martyr – It’s hard to make heads or tails of this trait. For this trait to start working, you need to be fighting in a group against something that is condition-dependent, and your ally needs to be the enemy’s target. They need to be a slow or hybrid build, so that you can actually get enough procs out of Unholy Martyr for it to earn its place. The trait offers no immediate defensive benefit to you, and you’re just as condition-vulnerable as you ever were. The situations in which this trait thrives seem rare.

I don’t know how to fix the traitline, but here are a few starters
Combine Dagger Mastery with Quickening Thirst.
Combine Vampiric Rituals with Ritual Mastery.
Add rapid-fire Necromancer weapons which can effectively use Vampiric and Vampiric Precision.
Add or change utilities so that Bloodthirst’s leech boost becomes more attractive.
Make Deathly Invigoration have more baseline healing.
Last but not least: Make lifedrain effects take place in some way while in Death Shroud.

Remove Courtyard, Skyhammer, SW from Ranked.

in PvP

Posted by: Sarrs.4831

Sarrs.4831

I don’t like Skyhammer because it doesn’t work for me. It literally does not work if you have even a slight latency because the jump pads are an integral part of the map yet you’ll get leashed back to the floor if they don’t fire properly. Makes it completely impossible to do certain things; you can’t reliably get to higher positions in the side points, you can’t get back up through the back route at midpoint. It’s a nightmare.

Spirit Watch I don’t mind. I’m not 100% certain why people don’t really like it. The side nodes are nice and open which I find refreshing compared to the other maps’ relatively claustrophobic side points, and I like the map’s verticality.

Courtyard has been a fun diversion from Conquest maps for me so far, so I don’t mind it. Fair enough if it’s not wanted in ranked q; at least, not without a good embellishment of the game mode and preferably build templates.

That’s kind of the point of these buffs; they weren’t ‘needed’. They’re skills which aren’t significant elements of the meta at all, so they can be safely played with without worrying too much.

The sad part about these “buffs” is that many were not necessary, and they had to be released as part of a “feature patch”. We only saw two of those this year.

They were not released as part of a feature pack. They were released with the new episode of living story.

Fastest Way Bandit Crests and Other Questions

in Living World

Posted by: Sarrs.4831

Sarrs.4831

Get bandit crests fast by completing as many events as possible, really.

You get luminescent armor by completing the collection achievements, which requires you to complete 5 distinct things (for the shoulders, at least):
- Kill each of the underground bosses with the Part Extractor active
- Consume your Perseverance stacks to get a collectible item
- Get a Firefly Luminescence from Caledon Forest and imbue it (this step is bugged, as I understand)
- Get each of the 3 armor pieces, by either completing the story on alts, rare drops from underground bosses, or buying with Bandit Crests
- Get Caithe’s Blossom, which requires you to complete all of the Story Journal achievements

No Bandit’s Crests in reward track is probably an oversight. It took a patch to get that track added in; don’t be surprised if it takes a patch to get the track updated.

Please don’t cry about the armor requiring you to do PvE. If you want PvP exclusive reward skins, you’ll have to suffer PvE exclusive reward skins, too.

Will level cap raise?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Sarrs.4831

Sarrs.4831

I don’t think a level cap increase would be a good idea.

New skills? Just add new skills.
New weapons? Just add new weapons.
ANet wants people to have more trait points? They’ve already rejiggered the trait system, just rejigger it again.

When gear doesn’t need to be reset, there’s no point in a level cap increase. There are other ways to pull players back into the game. LW S2 seems like it’s done a very good job so far with the new zones being added, and hopefully the pace of changes for PvP balancing will keep up. The only other thing we need is more stuff for WvW and more maps/game modes for sPvP.

Condition/Boon Duration is Bad Design

in Profession Balance

Posted by: Sarrs.4831

Sarrs.4831

Ascended weapons don’t matter much when you’re rolling Dire or Rabid. Your damage isn’t focused in the weapon damage increase which is the main increase that Ascended weapons enjoy. We could also take this as evidence that this discussion has already happened internally- Ascended Giver’s weapons do not exist because ANet wants to discourage people from going down that path.

They do trade off condition damage, but I don’t think they do it at a rate that makes it a meaningful trade-off. 10% condition duration for 90 condition damage seems like an easy choice to me, especially considering it’ll be benefiting your non-damaging conditions and working against enemy food and traits. I would probably be more worried by Healing Power being a dead stat than losing the condi damage.

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Sarrs.4831

AFM: Well, you are a scrub. Just go PvP and get the rewards man, dude, daddi-o, 1v1 me.
Me: Yes, I could do that. But: 1. There is only 1 dungeon track available at any given time (for what reason?). 2. Doing a full track is ~50 matches (so I’m probably better off just doing the dungeon). 3. Probably a good precentage of PvE players will never set foot in PvP.

Well now I’m really mad at you because you don’t know the basic mechanics of the reward track system. If you do the story mode dungeon you’ll unlock the related reward track and it’ll be available permanently. You could look a little more thoroughly into the things you’re complaining about than not at all.

Personally, what I’d like to see would be for ANet to remove the distinction between land and sea weapons;
Combine Tridents and Staves
Combine Rifles and Spearguns
Spears usable on land

Gives 6 of 8 classes a new weapon to play with on land, and every class a lot of new weapons to play with underwater.

One step forward, two steps back.

Yeah, this does make it easier to make quick purchases through gems. But the price categories line up with very few of the items actually available on the gemstore. And converting gems into an amount of gold makes NO SENSE at all.

How about this: change it back to what it was, and allow people to buy specific items directly through the gemstore. There’s a button which says “buy with gems” and then you put a button that says “buy with gold” and it shows you how much gold you have to spend and you click on it and you buy the thing. One click, no muss, no fuss.

There is absolutely no problem with a Class having an Interupt Mechanic on Auto Attack.

I’m not sure whether you’re genuine here? Yes there is a problem with having a class having an interrupt mechanic on auto attack. Saying “no there isn’t a problem” when someone says there’s a problem doesn’t mean that problem goes away.

And yeah, there is. Two problems:
1. Interrupts aren’t supposed to be something you have an infinite supply of. Skewing the balance further towards interrupts seriously affects how the game works.
2. RNG on a clutch play element like an interrupt is bad.

In Fact, anet has had also absolutely no problems with it to put the most strongest punishing negative condtion in regard of this fast paced action and position oriented combat system GW2 has- Torment – into the game and put it on AA for the Mesmer’s Scepter!!

The most punishing conditions in the game are Fear and Immobilize.

Torment is damage. It’s damage that inclines you towards acting in a specific way- not moving- but it’s just damage. Comparing it to an interrupt is apples and oranges.

To come to an end, I just hope, when I put up the complete concept in one go with the data file, that people will just get then a better understanding about how much this class needs some serious changes.

Why do people think that classes need complete overhauls? Why do you think that upon seeing your master plan, everything will be made clear?

CDI- Guilds- Guild Halls

in CDI

Posted by: Sarrs.4831

Sarrs.4831

  • What kind of new upgrades would be possible because of the system turning into buildings?

Assuming that the guild hall is going to replace cities to some extent, which city functions would people want? Banks, crafting tables, TP merchants, regular merchants?
I’m going to jump the gun here and assume you’re going to put some more specific reward-driven stuff in Guild Halls. What if you run COF a whole bunch of times as a guild, and that rewards you with a giant potion that you can drink from forever which is basically a permanent feast?
Speaking of feasts, we should be able to make a SUPER FEAST, which is a guild upgrade that has all food buffs for like, a day. You get 100 pizza tables and you put them in the super feast machine and your guild gets pizza for an entire day

  • What changes to influence and guild progression should happen to make it more intuitive if we went with buildings?

Possibly look into making buildings cost actual building materials. You need wood for building, metal for bracing, cloth for flags and leather for… Rugs? We have a pretty big glut of Elder Wood in the market so I don’t think it would be a big problem to help flush that. There’s even the same amount of material levels as there are guild levels!
Maybe some other stuff out in the world could be cool too but I dunno what specifically. Maybe look into personal currencies, materials, personal rewards, achievements for ideas.

  • How do we build customization into this upgrade system where there currently is none? Someone suggested this and there were some talk of separating clear core functionality from the unique customized features, but that is sort of where we stopped.

If you mean functional customization; I dunno. If we’re building this out of currency, it’s not like a talent tree or something like that. It needs to be looked at differently, which is kinda weird. I think that, beyond which temporary buffs a guild chooses to build and run, there’s only so much which can be done.
If you mean cosmetic customization I don’t think upgrades should do that. Outside of the very large upgrades that levelling up guild halls and building new buildings brings, it should be handled by other mechanics. We shouldn’t have an upgrade system to build, say, a chair.

Nalhadia – Kaineng

CDI- Guilds- Guild Halls

in CDI

Posted by: Sarrs.4831

Sarrs.4831

I’m gonna attack some of the points Jon raised earlier.

  • We need to discuss how the building system would incorporate old upgrades but also provide new ones.

To get a good idea of this, I want to run down some of the upgrade types which we have available. We have:
Level-up upgrades: These are the ones that you get which boost your level. Architecture 1, architecture 2, architecture 3, etc.. What I was thinking here with my initial suggestion is that the level of this upgrade dictates the size and grandeur of a core building which the other upgrades are either attachments to, or which exist within the building in some way.
Functionality upgrades: These ones add functionality to the guild. There are the politics ones, which give you a flag and weapon/armor contracts, there’s the guild bank and workshop in Architecture, and I would probably argue that the guild mission unlocking upgrades function in a similar way.
Flags: They’re uh, flags, and you stick them in the ground. People click on them for buffs. There are so many of them that I think they deserve their own category.
Buffs: These are the ones which are not flags! They give guild wide bonuses that you don’t have to find and click on and they last for a certain time. Helpful!
Consumables: These are things like guild catapults and golems, and the buffet tables, and the portable crafting tables. They’re some kind of service which create an object in the world which isn’t a flag.

So, onto the actual question: let’s incorporate.
Level-ups can be big buildings which have a large hall structure. They’re big, main social areas, and they’re big enough that you can customise the layout of furniture to a significant degree and maybe even the floorplan.
Functionalities could be smaller buildings which may be connected to the main building or they might not be. Some things, like the Deep Cave, wouldn’t make sense to attach to your main building because it’s an uh, cave.
Flags are, um… Flags. Do flags need to be changed? Maybe there could be some kind of duplication system where if you place a flag out in the world, a duplicate is also placed somewhere in the Guild Hall, so that if you want to check if your guild has any flags active, you go there and hey-o flags.
Buffs could be maybe visually represented by NPCs scooting around in your guild hall. If you have +Gold Drops active, John Smith visits your guild hall. In NPC form. He’s probably too busy to log in and do it.
Consumables could possibly have some room here. Catapults and golems would probably want to stay in WvW, but buffets could be in a hall which you go to to eat, and crafting stations could just be, uh, crafting stations.
