Something I found very silly; why didn’t they use these armor skins for the new variable-stat armor?
Winter gear? omg yay
Outfit? oh. ._.
At this rate, I may actually catch up on getting all the gemstore armors, and I do mean armors.
me am fix mortar
Mortar and skills:
1. The Mortar has been replaced by the Mortar Kit.
a. Launch Mortar Shot has had its cooldown removed.
b. Launch Caltrops Mortar has had its cooldown increased to 20 seconds.
c. Launch Elixir has had its cooldown increased to 30 seconds.
d. Launch Ice Mortar has had its cooldown increased to 30 seconds.
e. Concussive Barrage has had its cooldown increased to 35 seconds.
Firstly, changing the Mortar to a kit makes it something that’s actually kind of usable. It would play a lot better with the engineer in general for it to be a kit.
The cooldown on Mortar Shot should be removed because a spammed 1 skill should never have a CD.
The cooldown on the other skills should be increased because as it is now a kit, its skills can be woven in with the rest of the Engineer’s lineup. It’s either a high CD on the skills, or a CD on the kit itself, and with no precedent for CDs on kits, I went with the first.
Traits which should affect Mortar skills:
Shrapnel, Forceful Explosives, Explosive Powder, Fireforged Trigger, Juggernaut, Elixir-Infused Bombs.
Kit Refinement grants… idk, a knockback similar to Accelerant-Packed Turrets? An Earthquake? I’m not sure what kinda power scale we would expect here.
The Mortar should dip decently into traits you already want, but not so much that the Mortar becomes a no-brainer or a blatant improvement over other weapons; if you want a perfect Mortar you need to run all over the place to get everything you want. Building a normal Engi which is focused on one or two kits should give you plenty of traits affecting the Mortar.
Elixir Shot can also benefit from a few more traits: Acidic Elixirs, Potent Elixirs, 409, HGH.
Other stuff:
Knock down Grenade Kit range from 1200/1500 to 900/1200.
This is a pet peeve that I’m never gonna stop going on about. Why can you throw three grenades at a time further than a mortar can shoot one? It’s crazy.
On upkeeps;
I personally would really prefer it if the guild hall was, functionally, a graphical representation of the guild’s upgrades.
As the guild does not need to spend any resources on upkeep at the moment, they should not need to do so for guild halls. You can spend influence and merits on consumables like MF boosts and whatnot, but that should be the only kind of ‘upkeep’ that the guild hall has.
A few thoughts of mine;
Why not use gathered materials (wood/metal/leather/cloth) as components in guild hall construction?
How does claiming WvW objectives play into Guild Halls? Should the WvW objectives be Guild Halls? Can they be used as a model for them, and can Guild Halls be used as a model for WvW objectives?
How do existing guild upgrades play into the Guild Halls, both visually and mechanically? The most pertinent one I can think of is the Guild Workshop; will we visually be able to see a second Guild Workshop at the Guild Hall?
Increase lemongrass to -60% Condition duration and boost its vitality by a base to+100.
OR
Bump hoelbrak runes to -30% from its current -20%
Is this sarcasm?
I think it both decays a little bit too quickly, and decaying immediately on leaving combat is a bit much.
Either slightly knocking down the adren loss rate from 2 to 1 per second (at least i think 2/sec is the current rate) or giving 5-10 seconds leeway after leaving combat would make it feel a lot better.
That will work.
What it means is that if you had a Superior Sigil of Fire and a Major Sigil of Fire, it would not work.
Maybe it’s just worded incorrect, but an extra 100% magic find while inside PvP maps. Shouldn’t that apply when you are in the Heart of the Mist? What’s the point of only having it in game, most people don’t open their chests on the actually maps…
I’m assuming that Heart of the Mists is counted as a PvP map, but I’m also curious as to whether this will be abusable (hold onto all your chests until the tourny, eat them all for +100% loots).
Maybe it’s just that might is too easily obtained relative to how much power it gives?
We can nerf a few things:
Celestial spread
Might’s benefit
Might’s application rate/duration
Because Celestial doesn’t seem to be a problem outside of the builds that can readily get a gajillion Might stacks. Celestial is really strong if you have a huge swathe of boons, it’s true, but that means we can tackle it on more than one front.
I honestly think that hotjoin just needs to be abolished in some way and the system set up for custom/unranked(solo)/ranked(solo)/team
It sounds like the elementalist is exactly the class you want. As a staff ele, you’re a high-powered, long-range support character. As a D/D or S/D ele, you’re a close range quick mover.
I don’t think it is part of any Achievements, but the Key can only be found/used once per account.
The map itself isn’t a part of the achievement. The key which you get shortly after completing the map is.
You might want it if you want duplicates of the key for stats; it’s a Soldier’s item, and only exotic, though.
The chest at the end of Obsidian Sanctum is still account bound. It was made that way a while ago, when frequently running the Obsidian Sanctum was the best way to get badges, compared to the abysmal rate you got them through standard WvW play.
Thus, topic title: why is it still this way? It’s incredibly easy to farm badges the ‘proper’ way now, between ranking up providing a fairly meaty amount of badges of honor, and EotM existing. You also get them by the truckload in achievement chests.
Would it be possible to get the jumping puzzle reverted so that you can do it several times in one day on different characters, seeing as the original reason it was changed is now defunct?
It takes one really stupid zerg to march so close to a cliff, knowing that any one enemy necromancer could drop down a spectral wall, or a mark, to fear a large number of players over the side. Here is an effective counter to it:
- Don’t follow a bad commander
- Don’t wander near a cliff
- Use a stun break
Stability is also a fantastic option. :O
Yes, some of the other ones got changed around as well. For example, elementalists start with Signet of Restoration (IIRC).
I do think that Rune of Nightmare could use adjustment. When you get high condition duration, especially as a necro, it’s very easy to turn that 2 second fear into a 3.5-4 second fear- Which, as a Necro, also does a huge amount of damage.
I don’t know which is the best class, but I’d probably say the worst class is the Guardian. They seem to have very little access to controlling effects outside of their no-pass zones.
Interesting that 29% of respondents purchased gems to convert to gold. That’s a number I’ve wondered about for quite a while!
The one thing GW2 excels at is leaving HUGE gaping wholes in gear stat availability. It’s like nothing gets done completely, it’s all kitten.
Gaps in gear/stat availability can work, though. Look at WoW- you can’t get perfect stats on every item you get.
Not to say that it’s a good idea or not for GW2, I haven’t thought about it that much, but it can work.
I like the rapid fire change because projectiles are suddenly something that really scares you, and therefore reflects are something that really scare the projectile user. I thought that projectile play was kinda neglected previously, so this is a positive change.
Oh man first you reply with bolas and now you dont even know whats wrong with it..
2 years ago i used this skills but its kitten buggy.. on uneven terrain or just walk left/right and bolas will miss.. just a waste of utility slot.
I’m assuming that skills work as they are supposed to, otherwise this entire discussion’s kind of pointless. If your key skills don’t work, you’re not an imbalanced class, you’re just a class which plain doesn’t work.
I’ve had little issue with bolas. Get in someone’s face and then throw them. The projectile doesn’t need to go over bumpy terrain and they won’t have time to get out of the way and the skill has almost no tell so they can’t really dodge it- which is almost the exact circumstance in which you should use your finisher anyway.
Yeah please queue that in-line with GS Rush, Bulls Rush and the other buggy skills.
How’s it bugged?
If they are hell bent on nerfing the warrior class, at the very least (like you know sympathize with us and donate 1 dollar to help the poor scheme?) they could give us less telegraphed moves.
You have less telegraphed moves. You just don’t use them.
throw bolas
Well i did top score pvp hotjoin with that :/ 2 shoting thieves and squishies never felt funnyer. Also scoring 6k magma ball is kind of hilarous
With the FT frontal cone? Yeah, squishies should probably die if they suffer 7 seconds of continuous attack.
You could already get 6k magma balls.
I’m heavily disinclined to say the flamethrower buff suddenly made them overpowered overnight. It may deal a good chunk more damage, but it didn’t make the engineer any less dependent on the flamethrower’s short range or buggy frontal cone.
Good taste in music though!
Isnt the only good feature of US (the on almost death block) something that was nerfed away from necro and now just returned but worse?
The effect is almost exactly the same as the beta effect (which would automatically send you into death shroud, if it was available).
It’s better in that it ignores your Death Shroud cooldown. I don’t believe the beta version did that.
Experimented at all with Spectral Grope?
Unholy Sanctuary’s new mechanic is pretty much exactly what a Grandmaster trait should be- A big, build-defining trait that fundamentally changes how a key aspect of your class works.
Buffing the regen wouldn’t be unappreciated, and buffing some of the other traits that seem like they’d synergise would be great. You’d think Deathly Invigoration would be a natural tie-in with this trait, but the amount of health it actually returns is quite pitiful, unfortunately.
You can see the potential there. There’s a build waiting just under the surface for other changes which would make it an incredibly meaty build- things just need to be fiddled with for it to become a real contender.
To get a 200% bonus – like you said – I’d have to hit 4 people under 50% health – which is not rare – it is extremely implausible.
You don’t have to hit 4 people. You have to hit 4 targets. If you’re fighting a minion master, turret engineer or spirit ranger, this is really easy. Getting all of their health down to 50%? Sure, that might be a pain, but it’s far from “extremely implausible”.
I really miss the skill bar preview version AS.
But:
100% bonus damage on a 1 bar AS is OP, 50% bonus damage on a 3 bars AS is UP.
What about 50% bonus with 1 bar adrenaline AS, 75% bonus with 2 bars, and 100% bonus with 3 bars?
I personally think it’d be better if the skill just dealt more damage at higher Adren levels, the same as every other Adrenaline skill.
I believe bundles only actually got changed in the 1-5 areas. I’m not sure, though.
I didn’t think the compass even existed in the Chinese release. I thought it was an entirely new feature for the 9/9 pack.
If people want the ‘traditional MMO experience’ then they can go play a traditional MMO. GW2 was meant to be different. It was meant to give you freedom and let explore and learn on your own, not hold your hand.
You can always turn off your targeting computer, Luke. Use the force!
Notice how Colin snuck in the “China” qualifier? VIP system for the west confirmed.
this is why we get developers leashed by PR reps
pls no
Instead of an ICD, they could also just make picking up banners not count as a weapon swap.
I believe (though I’m not sure) that this is how engineer kits apply sigil effects on the backend.
personally i think it’s okay that effects like these ones are activating when a banner is picked up or dropped, but it should probably be trimmed somehow. An ICD would probably work just fine here.
Really fond of this constant communication. Steph’s making posts, Colin’s making posts, I think Chris might have made a few (though I might be getting mixed up with the CDI there). Hopefully it keeps up!
If they do well… To quote Forrest Gump, “Momma always says…”
I thought that was Waterboy.
My momma always says that crocodiles are ornery cos they got all them teeth but no toothbrush!
Everything ready by the first dungeon!
I think this is a very important point to make and one which I didn’t think of! Excellent example of how changes can have unforeseen negative consequences.
I dare to say it is on the same level as the USA said: “We have information of Weapons of Mass Destruction in Irak”
I uh.
It’s not quite like that.
ANet isn’t taking your money in the same way the government does. If you don’t like the stuff they put out, you can stop giving them money. If you stop paying taxes, well, gl with that
ANet isn’t planning on uh, murdering anyone, installing a new regime or destabilizing a region. At least I don’t think they are. I would probably put “slightly worsening a commercial product” in a different category of badness than “military occupation”
I tried a similar build. It’s a very fun Cheat Death effect. What’s that, mister thief? You think I’m at low life? Think again!
I might recommend:
Playing around with Soul Marks. Obvious reasons.
Dumping Curses and pushing more points into Soul Reaping for something there; possibly Foot in the Grave.
…Why would anet pay people to shill on their own forums? You send your goons to other sites!
Even after all my negative comments, I AM trying the new levelling system. I am following all the instructions given by the compass and it’s going ok. My gear is being refreshed reasonably frequently.
Can’t say its as fun though. There’s little adventure in it. I feel like Im playing a single player game.
Yeah, it does feel like the compass is leading you by the nose. To play GW2 like you used to (and I would argue that you should), you have to turn it off, but I don’t think it’d be clear to a new player how to do that.
The Personal Story will take you into the city. I think it is the level 20 episode that will.
All level 10 chapters will, I believe. You always need to visit your home instance or your Destiny’s Edge member.
Personal Story starts at level 10, all of the mobs/encounters were balanced for that level 10. You have all of you main skills for weapons 1-5 at level 10. Its just fine doing Personal Story. Maybe if you actually tried the patch you’d know this instead of making baseless arguments.
Mesmers are actually REALLY BAD at low levels. You have next to no clone generation. Not having Decoy and Mirror Image (which you won’t have because no utilities yet!) and only one weapon set generating clones (no weapon swap yet!) is really, really painful.
To me it seems as though there are a few little problems causing bigger problems which everyone is going nutso about.
- Change some of the hearts back. Dancing for cows is silly.
- Have the content guide respect your level. It should never send you to something significantly above your level.
- Sort out these locking issues. Maybe publish a list of features that should be account-locked and which should be character-locked so that people calm down, because some of this opaqueness going away wouldn’t hurt. They should also probably be trimmed from the level-up if you’ve already unlocked them.
- Make sure that the expected leveling curve is actually the expected leveling curve.
- Change the utility unlocks to 11, 16 and 22. IDK when exactly, but they should stay in the same curve as they were before.
- Knock the elite skill back down to 30, because I don’t like change.
IDK about all this metric stuff, but the OPE doesn’t need to get thrown under the bus for the NPE, and some simple changes would fix that.
From what I hear, in the Chinese client, a VIP status gives you the notable benefit of having a big symbol over your head for all the plebeians to see, all the better to realize your elevated status.
this feature is already in the game, it is called the Commander’s Compendium, it will put a dorito in one of four fantastic colors above your head
Hah, I thought this would work
At least it actually gives active banner use something. I mean… Picking it up and then dropping it isn’t that active, but it’s something. <_<
The majority of builds focused around adrenaline are useless now.
If you don’t expect your builds to change along with the patches, that’s kind of insane. It’s a big change; expect big changes to your builds. Offensively oriented Warrior builds are not going to vanish, but they will need adjustments to allow them to ensure skills land. And they’re not even big adjustments, honestly- Put Throw Bolas into your build and you will land every second finisher you throw out. Kick is a bit dorkier, but you can use that too for Eviscerate.
I honestly don’t get why so many ppl are disliking the skill, it is almost as if they were expecting great sword to get a aoe eviscerate.
I think it’s really important for people to compare it to what Arcing Slice used to be- Which was a completely useless button which did nothing for anyone.
