Oh hey, Dev the dev.
pssst
Mistah Carvah, i got a requeeest
it’d be a real kicker if WvW players (and PvP, but that’s up to someone else) could earn ascended items from their chosen gameplay mode instead of the current monopoly PvE has on them
gotta have everyone on the same level so players can all “play their way”, right?
(edited by Scumbag Mawile.6384)
Don’t be a thief? Thieves definitely aren’t the worst at anything right now, and excel in a few areas…
All the classes are playable; some just much more easily so than others. Depending on what type of play you prefer (PvE, PvP, WvW, a mix), some are more suited than others.
You should probably look around at the different servers before choosing, as moving to a new one will cost you 20$ or a hefty sum of in-game gold. Some are known for being more PvE, TC’s the roleplaying flagship, population varies and the World vs. World experience varies.
Personally, I’ve experienced a few servers since launch and didn’t have a reason to leave after I hit Sorrow’s Furnace. Good WvW contribution ???????????????, populated enough to meet people in the wilds without constant queues and overflows and generally nice/easygoing overall.
Of course, if you did pick SF, I happen to run a guild that likes helping its lowbies level… ^.~

Oh, goody. Thanks for the info.
Guess I have some skinnin’ to do.
It seems fused weapons can be safely filed into the ‘ultra rare’ category, some truly unique looks to shoot for.
Thing is, now I’m sitting here with two Fused dagger skins thinking about how more Ascended items are supposed to be implemented, and kitten #8230; If they’re one-time-use, it’s a waste to put them on exotics.
Seeing how it’s been months since we got our first Ascendeds introduced and we still only have trinkets to show for it, they’ll probably start with either armor or weapons next. Really hoping it’s weapons, as armor would likely go piece-by-piece like trinkets did, meaning another six months or so of skins gathering dust before Ascended weapons were put on the table.
Actually, what happens if you use a fine transmutation st- uh, crystal on a skinned item? Is it impossible, do you get the look of the unskinned item, or is the skin transferred to the new item?
I’m really hoping the latter is the case. I can see the money-grabbing view of making all skins irreversibly one-time-use, but as some skins become unavailable, there’s little monetary gain down that road, but all the customer outrage.
The main questions in this meandering topic: 1) can you transmute a used skin to another item, and if not, 2) when are we looking at getting Ascended weaponry?
Got bored and decided to indulge in my love of opening things, spent around 100g for 50 keys.
Last round of 30 gave me two tickets and a pink plush quaggiekins. Definitely thanking Based Quag and wearing it with pride.
So, I’m not sure if I’m just very lucky or the people buying 200 chests are unlucky, but they may not be that rare.
Also in the top right is a name change contract. Didn’t know those were even out until today, much less that you could find them in BL chests. Cool.
From beta:
Linsey MurdockSome Chefs out there may have noticed that there is not a single recipe with fish in it. Nor do fish in the rivers, lakes, and oceans of Tyria drop fish meat. This was all done intentionally.
We aren’t going to have fishing on release and we may not even have it any time soon (initial expansions/Live updates), but there is a place for it when the time comes
I hope there’s a low chance of catching something valuable/unique while fishing, too.
I miss spending a lazy afternoon fishing for an hour or two talking to random players.
Legendaries require Badges of Honor because you’re expected to put some time into helping your server to earn them.
As it stands, the WvW JPs encourage lazy PvEers to slowly grind their BoH over a month or two rather than invest in a few rounds of WvW and actually contribute as was intended.
By the way, Scumbag, the fact that some people don’t dig being being bent over the proverbial barrel by another player, doesn’t make them lazy. Only an arrogant kitten would come to that assumption. And some people just aren’t any kitten good at PvP, but the way WvW is set up, being lousy at PvP means you go broke if you keep at it long enough. Can you understand now why some people don’t want to play your silly little Punch and Judy BS game now, Scumbag?
Aha, you found the first part of my name! Kudos to you, my fellow.
If you’re seriously implying zergwars takes remotely any skill or that you’re incapable of it, I don’t know how you manage to play any game, let alone GW2.

People who camp the JP for the sole purpose of griefing PvEers are trolltastic heroes. WvW is large-scale PvP. The JPs are on WvW maps; the JPs are PvP. If you can’t manage fights along course of the puzzle, you’re not skilled enough for any kind of PvP. If you get killed by campers at the end and your response is to come on the forums and moan about it rather than going out and getting Badges of Honor by aiding your server and PvPing in a PvP zone, you’ve got a chronic case of childish entitlement.
I’d really love it if Anet removed Badges of Jumping or put some kind of required WvW contribution with a daily reset before you could access the puzzle.

It’s been a while, but I’ve been intending to go back for powerful blood farming with a couple guildies. Farmed for a little more than an hour with a nice German lady a few weeks ago, got about a dozen powerfuls, double that in shells, nearly a hundred potents and good trash besides.
Plus Karka are fun as hell to fight. Unlike some, I enjoy needing to pay attention to the game and getting some fun out of farming rather than rolling over everything.
Anet stated there would be no expansion in 2013
I have seen no such statement. Source?
Ehh, I think it was specifically stated somewhere.
Nevertheless, “not on the horizon” should safely rule out the next nine months.
SF owns all keeps at least most of the day and there’s usually a Mes in porting at least 50% of the time. BP chest + double Ori nodes = yes please.
Ah, I’m gonna miss you, T8…
Hope that’s not true.
Anet stated there would be no expansion in 2013, something I was very happy to hear as they need all the time they can get to finish vanilla GW2.
If this is legit, it seems like another forced deadline and definite bad news.
Jumping puzzles are part of WvW and if people can’t perform the precise jumping required of such in game puzzles then maybe they are not experienced enough to handle the more experienced levels that are open to enemy players…in my experienced opinion.
funny. i’ve been enjoying WvW for a couple months now, and i still don’t know exactly where to find the JP, nor do i care to try to find it. i’m halfway to having enough badges to get a legendary if i ever want to try for one…i don’t see the need
I have over 3k BoH myself, but that doesn’t mean I won’t stop in the EB JP when someone’s porting. Gotten maybe two dozen golems that way… unf
There’s an entrance in each keep for the one in EB. If a Mesmer’s porting, you can be shot up to the end for two random siege blueprints, up to 17 (for sure) BoH and 3 blues/2 greens/apparently greater rarity, since someone got Dusk (Dozens of runs and I’ve never gotten yellow or better).
some people are not fans of the pinpoint precise jumping required by some of the puzzles in game… hence the “mario brothers bullcrap” comment

this sounds experienced
Seriously though, the reason people do the JPs is because a legendary requires 500 badges of honor.
Did Anet intend people to grind the JP for two months to get their legendary? Of course not. It was an incentive for PvE players to go experience WvW and something that was both challenging (as a legendary should be) and smart on their part. What better way to get people to experience all aspects of a game than requiring it for their shiny PvE item?
But of course, Anet couldn’t predict the lazyasses grinding the puzzle for weeks while they collected other arduous parts of their purple, and so the whiners came to be.
It pleases me greatly when a PvE player gets ganked in the JP because they’re too lazy/elitist to actually help in the game mode for their legend (not to mention 100 badges can be racked up in one evening of helping your server…) while running a PvP puzzle without any intention of even fighting invaders there.
And hey, maybe if I stomp them, jump on their corpse and /laugh a few times they’ll come rage on the forums! :vvvvvvv)

Remember, ET/FC.
Wherever you are, whatever you take, SF will come.
We’re always coming.
Gushing ever outwards in zerg form.
Spewing all over you like a surge of Based Quag’s passion.
Secure your sphincters.

Pretty much this.
He walked into that one.
Actually, I served that one up on an ori platter because arguing with elitists is both pointless and unentertaining.
Notice the nose-count.
When it’s green vs blue vs red, tags that are the enemy’s color would likely confuse the noobs.
Commander tags based on your WvW color and various shades of that color besides (e.g. lime, standard green, forest green, etc.)? Hell and yes.
Regular krait something-or-others (they’re the females) bring my downscaled GC exotics thief to <50% in the first tick of their barely-visible flashing-off circle.
Vets bring my full-bunker exotics guardian to <50% in the first tick and one-shot my thief.
I’d complain about their fellow krait immobilizing you right when the AoE lands, but then again I only survive long enough for it to matter when playing a full bunker, which gets downed if I can’t dodge out fast enough.
I like krait and they really should be annoying (the constant immobs/pulls accomplish that very well), but honestly, they’d still be a real challenge if that AoE damage was halved. As it is, taking on a pack of them is dependent on your luck of not getting immob + AoEed and playing survivalist besides.
(edited by Scumbag Mawile.6384)
We can still get exactly that reward seven times a day,
Just out of curiosity, where are you getting that “seven” figure from…?
Do 7 events on 1 character?
Maw, SE, FE, Teq, Shatterer, Claw, and any others?
Ehh, I stick to the three dragons, FE, SB, Maw and Wurmy since they seem like they have the most reliable timers (wurm varies from server to server, NSP’s is usually good).
I know Megadestroyer wasn’t buffed, and I couldn’t find temples that weren’t outdated into oblivion, so I stuck to the quick-‘n’-easy lewts.
(edited by Scumbag Mawile.6384)
This change was necessary. Anyone who didn’t realize it was “too good” was deluding himself.
It was “too good” only when compared with the rest of the game. The problem didn’t lie in the dragon chests having too good rewards. It was with everything else having bad ones.
Balance doesn’t mean nerfing everything down to the same level.
Anyone that thinks this change solved anything is deluding themselves.
I was hoping it was a sign of balanced rewards game-wide to come…
Which really, it is. Just not as exploitable now. Five minutes for an event or three, 1-3 rares, good odds for exotics and some trash/mystic toilet fodder to boot, per lv80? Yeah, that’s a bit much.
We can still get exactly that reward seven times a day, which is a lot more than can be said for a lot of the other rewards in the game. As it stands, one dragon event can easily be more rewarding than an entire dungeon run. And compared to PvP? WvW? Hah.
The only real downside to this is, again, discouraging people from playing their alts. The WvW character-specific ranking or what have you will kill that aspect of the game for all but one of my characters. Not like the many soulbound runes/sigils/dyes/etc. already made enjoying the different races and classes frustrating or anything…
Only a WvW player would roll his eyes and tell the other WvW players posting to spend those millions of karma on Lost Orrian Jewelry Boxes for delicious BP/upgrade-fueling gold.
For NA, Tarnished Coast hands down.
They have been in crazy extended matchups where they have been green for weeks and red for weeks with some of the trolliest forum warrioringest servers in the game and have for the most part stayed positive and amicable through it all.
So they’re no fun?
Seriously dough, I’m pretty sure the majority of said trolliest forum warriors only do so for fun, not spite. If people are offended of it, they need to remember they’re playing, not living.
Hi guys, I’m new to the WvW forums… and WvW in general. I just kinda have to say that I thought the reset was going to help me a bit with my world completion (working on a legendary), but it’s quickly become an entirely green map, which means I’m kind of stuck because the FC zergs don’t often leave FC. Is there any way we could work out some way for people who are working on world completion to go and get the points of interest/vistas and then let the server they were running through take their stuff back with little to no resistance? It probably wouldn’t change the score much…
(P.S. World vs World is seriously fun… I wasn’t expecting it to be, but it is.)
(P.P.S. I’ve been killed in the jumping puzzle a few times, once in the middle of the bow animation. That isn’t cool. Please don’t camp the puzzles for kills.)
Sorry, hun. The JP’s still in WvW, and thus still large-scale PvP. If you’re going in and don’t own every portal you better be ready for some 1v1 or worst, because it’s gonna happen.
Hell, they even added traps. Puzzle fights were intended.
Camping the end is wee bit more kittenish, but as I’ve seen ET/FC doing that and murdering anyone who showed up (half the time I’m in EB JP people are letting peaceful invaders take the chest), it’s still not something I’d moan about.
So, much fewer (but slightly more valuable) rares/ectos…
Then again, it also means I won’t be tempted to waste another >hour farming 14 more events on my other 80s.
Oh well. Thank you based Anet for helping me not blow more time than I already do on GW2.
Best thing you can do is try running with a small group of your own so you can wipe any of the little kittens doing it.
WvW is for WvW. Since it’s the token response to anyone who has a problem with in-game content on these forums… If you want to duel, GW2 isn’t the game for you.
Better bring more than one group :-P
Players that frequent fight clubs are in the top % of PvP ability and most are easily able to dispatch 1v2 or even 1v3 odds when encountering zerglings.
Yeah yeah, because you never run into solo fights in WvW.
Thing is, zerglings aren’t everyone who runs with a zerg. Karma/coin/influence piling isn’t the only reason I do large-scale PvP; it provides oh-so-many opportunities to stomp people in interesting and entertaining ways.
Every moment spent ikittenerg is one where you aren’t honing skills vs opponents who are at the top level of gameplay. Running in zergs makes players soft.
My mistake. Please do forgive me, oh elite keyboard warrior.
Large-scale PvP is a whole different level of tactics than dueling. You may not know of anything beyond “lol spam aoes zerg fun ahhoohehe”, but in a fight where 50%+ of the players present are doing just that, even one person making the right play can turn the odds for one side.
I do in fact find some challenging fights, particularly in a few of the mesmers hidden away after a zerg’s been through. Whether they’re skilled or not, I don’t take chances and play accordingly, so it’s either a real fight if they know how to play or gigglesnort stomping if they don’t.
Or maybe I’m just soft and not a hardcore archduelist like yourself and should keep my filthy peasant zergling mouth shut. :vvvvvvvv)

Given that the WvW ‘fix’ = giving you options to make players look like moving blobs or only showing their name and not their body, I really don’t think we’re getting a full correction on this one.
Guess I’ll have to become expert at identifying a class by what boons they’re running.
The only thing a (skilled) ranger can really excel at is 1v1 duels (or survive being outnumbered, but they won’t be able to finish anyone).
Eles are by far the more powerful in all other aspects; and hell, they aren’t bad at 1v1 either. AoE master + escape master = one incredibly annoying SoaB jumping down on your rams and doing a ton of AoE and getting a guaranteed run back to safety even if they’re downed.
You’ll be useful and score a ton of lootbags without even trying. Coming from someone who’s mained ranger since launch, definitely go ele.
If I can say I think Icewind Dale 2 is a better game than any Call of Duty game, OP can say GW2 is better than _ _ _______.
Graphics aside, there’s not not much in way of difference between old MMOs and new MMOs. Persisting MMOs are improved as time passes.
I’d say it’s more impressive that GW2 manages to elicit these feelings a half year after launch when other MMOs have had, say, 9 years to fine tune and improve, some even reeling in another 25% of the game’s initial cost every month.
For a game that still feels incomplete in many ways, GW2 still accomplishes a lot (like how I’m still playing it). Given that it still has years of development ahead of it, I’m pretty kitten sure it’ll plod its way into being hands-down the best MMO around (bar some new MMO coming along and blowing everything out of the water, which I find doubtful).
GC thief with SB nets me every bag. Every last one. Still wearing rares, too.
#4’s poison goodness, #2s for some 4k crits or multiple 1.2k spread, auto attacks for 1-1.5k crit on each target. I usually save dagger storm for when our side needs the enemy zerg’s front sawed off, but kitten does it haul in the bags.
Almost never have survivability problems in a group, dish out heavy damage to multiples and switch to DD if any of their more annoying/not-horrendous players find themselves too close. Given the amount of damage/downs I dish out, it doesn’t even feel like choosing greed over loot. A well-placed #2 SB knocks chunks out of the whole zerg.
another sf/et/fc thread steered into talking about filthyrat
another success for krem

they hatin’

alright that’s as far as this is gonna go
sf is just 2 big imo they do the 5 zergs of 120+ people minium on every map and we only have 4 people on the eb and the bls put togheter sf neesd 2 be nerfed ty anet :vvvvv)
I’d say they’re doing what they think they need to do to make money. They’re trying to maximize people’s playtime, and provide incentives for them to buy gems. Most of their tactics are rather Pavlovian. But none of this is new in the MMO industry.
Clearly there were some big screwups somewhere in the developmental process of GW2. It took years to release, was overhauled several times, and still isn’t really complete. My guess is that they started with a game that was in the spirit of GW, and were forced to make changes by NCSoft to maximise profits. I wouldn’t be surprised if NCSoft told them to release it ASAP, too, in complete contradiction of the “when it’s ready” policy that ArenaNet kept for all those years.
So the short answer is: I think they chose to, or were forced to, change the game they wanted to make in order to maximize profits. From an artistic perspective, it’s a blatant sell-out. From a business perspective, it kind of makes sense. I’m sure there are some very disappointed devs, but I seriously doubt we’re going to here from them on that. It would likely cost someone their job to speak out.
So all we can do is guess. We’ll never know for sure. I think I did a pretty good job of applying Occam’s Razor to the evidence, but I could be wrong.
Beautifully put.
Complaining about flaws to the people who’re supposed to fix them makes sense.
There are too many people unsatisfied with the game. It’s incomplete, and not just in some ever-growing-game sense. +1 to OP, when the play is balanced and rewards more than one very ‘special’ part of the audience, GW2 will go from highly-liked to highly-loved in my mind.
My favorite is the fall glitch that lets you slide on your face for a while.
Maybe a dozen world boss/dragon chests today, two exotics (Shatterer’s orange version of the Kral earring and named gloves off the champ icebrood wolf at Claw) and +6 extra rares.
Rarely get exotics otherwise. In a WvW blitz after the upgraded drops I found The Ugly Stick (and a rare pistol in the same loot bag…), but other than that, maybe an exotic a week if frequently playing as an 80.
Try the world bosses. With the dragon timers and guesting you can get ten done in an hour of actual play (I’m assuming you’re AFK while waiting). That’s a guaranteed 10 rares (2.5-3g) with enough blues and greens to cover WPs and a respectable chance at additional rares/exotics, including precursors.
It actually isn’t too boring if you do other stuff while you wait, especially Tequatl and Claw. Scummy it may be, but I like to run around killing Risen at Teq and okittenerker thief can tag a good three dozen Vets during Claw of Jormag. If you do a bit of damage to the champion wolf and goliath during the second faze you’ll get credit when they’re instakilled at barrier drop/event completion, and that’s an extra four champ kills on top of your guaranteed chest.
They built the wiki into the game to work as the “detailed” option you speak of. Just type /wiki <search term> and it will automatically minimize the game and bring up the wiki for you with the more detailed info you seek. That way everyone wins and they don’t have to code a bunch of extra info into the game.
EDIT: That’s not to say that I wouldn’t like to see more detailed tooltips. That’s just to say why they don’t feel they need to spend resources on such things.
The wiki would be a great option if it would contain the data.
Requiring that the users need to find out numbers by observing skill usage, which is further hindered by conditions not listed in the in-game “combat log”, is a poor option.
Why include important combat information in a game when you can redirect players out of the game to a website to read it instead?
Why fill your wiki with information on the game which, as its creator, you know every last detail about when you can force players to rely on the charity of other players filling out that wiki with their own trial-and-error field research?
I really, really want to get another 2-3 GC thieves and do a timed jump onto a zerg PvGating with simultaneous Dagger Storm.
Oh, the carnage.
I like ‘Evermoor’ better. Sounds like a neverending swamp.
“FOR EVERMOOR!”
“Sir, why are we charging in the name of the Evermoor? It stinks, and it’s full of flies, drakes, trolls…”
“Oh, right. FOR THAT SUNNY LITTLE SPOT ON THE HILL WITH THE WILD BLUEBERRY BUSHES!”
in unison “FOR THAT SUNNY LITTLE SPOT ON THE HILL WITH THE WILD BLUEBERRY BUSHES!”
So the same piece of armor should cover a male but be boob cups for a female?
There have to be some similar factors for both genders in a set of armor for it to identify with. Whether it’s actually armor or glorified lingerie seems like a pretty kitten fundamental factor to me.
You’re the one arguing that what is there should be changed, so the onus is on you to provide a cogent reason as to why it should be changed.
As it stands, the armor sets use the same textures, carry similar elements and styles (especially true in the image in the OP), but use different models for the different genres. One just happens to be modest, and the other more body-showy, which is entirely within the artistic license of the developer. Quite frankly, as a new player, I perfectly associated these two armors together as one ‘set’ without even so much as knowing their names or where they come from. Their artistic similarities are undeniable.
Because the helm, shoulders, gloves and bottom of the feet are identical, obviously.
Meanwhile the chestpiece (carrying down over the legs, so the majority of the character) is nearly unrecognizable. A floating boob-cover for females, full layered armor and coat (with belt and baldric) for males.
It’s completely disruptive with the flow of the armor and they have nothing to do with each other. Sexualization of a key piece ruins an entire set. Now, if they were equally sexualized, whatever. It’d just be an ugly set.
I’m amazed you’re even still trying to argue this. ‘Artistic’ is no longer an appropriate excuse for anything you slap it on, you know.
An armor design by the same name for two different genders is really two different armor sets bound by the aesthetic principles of the name and lore. They are allowed and, indeed, encouraged to be different. That is 3D artistic license at its finest, and I think arguing to take it away from the development team would make the art in the game less diverse than it already is and more stale.
I believe the current way they do armor sets is acceptable and enjoyable. You can preview armor before you get it anyway, so it doesn’t hurt the player any.
Okay.
So the same piece of armor should cover a male but be boob cups for a female?
There have to be some similar factors for both genders in a set of armor for it to identify with. Whether it’s actually armor or glorified lingerie seems like a pretty kitten fundamental factor to me.
There should be a choice for players for both males and females. If people want to enjoy the fantastical world they play in with magic and lasers and minotaurs and undead by running around in skimpy armor that shows off how innately and conspicuously attractive their characters are, let them. Similarly, if you want to run around fully armored and boasting the thickest plate mail that money can buy to protect you from all sorts of enemies, go for it.
It is not for you, or anyone, to decide what others should or should not be able to do in a game of this make. I encourage and implore the developers to continue making skimpy and modest armor, so long as there are numerous options for both within all three armor types and across both genders.
How about armor that looks the same on both genders, instead of morphing into a completely different skimpy design for females?
Or ‘stylized’ (sexualized) and ‘protective’ options for armor? You know, so I can have a character wear the set I really like except for the open chest, without that open chest?
Likewise if someone’s ‘tastes’ so direct them they can put a peephole in otherwise complete armor. It’s quite a simple change for most armor sets (though obviously not my original example’s).
(edited by Scumbag Mawile.6384)
Also one last thing:
http://www.gw2armor.com/human/female/medium_list.phpOut of all the medium female armors, there is only 1 (the cult t3 one, or 2 total if people are hellbent on counting named armor) armor that can be counted as revealing out of 23 possible armor sets.
Oh really?
Not counting the low-cut outfits, I count 8 case of gaps in armor whose only purpose is to show boobs.
Given that the male equivalents don’t have random holes in the middle of the chest sections, I’d say it’s a rather lopsided use of cleavage.
I guess stating you’re joking isn’t enough not to get infracted.
Anyway, as I’d said before, you raise a good point. Sure it might be useful for adding/reporting node-teleporting bots before they disappear, but otherwise, it’s screwy.
Remember there are no melee and no ranged professions. Every class is fully capable of being fully melee, fully ranged or both.
