If such a system were implemented you would need at least 5x tickets, if not more. 25 might not be so far off.

At 28 gems per gold, the cost for one ticket through scraps (on average, with no good or bad luck) is 150 gold. You would need around 750 gold at the rate of 5 tickets. If you bought such a large amount of keys, though, I would assume the cost would likely be 150 or 300 gold lower than that due to the increased likelihood of getting an actual ticket or two.

Nobody should be leading an army in WvW unless they have the capacity to perform ALL of the duties of the commander.

That is to say, the ability to fight with the troops is lacking at level 11. Nobody can take more than a hit or two from a level 80 character, let alone fell one at that low of a level.

Even if that person has another level 80 character and plenty of experience as a commander, they shouldn’t be leading any armies with an under-geared character.

I think you have to understand that Anet enforces these costs to prevent travel by WP as much as possible. Although I would really like that to happen, there’s no chance of that happening, as a single free WP anywhere convenient would make their server load go up by 15 percent or more.

Waypoint fees are not as valuable as a gold sink as they are to encourage players to run around zones.

Wouldn’t attaching a fee to waypoints in the region, but not to those of surrounding regions solve that?

That creates some weird incentives where you could save money by leaving the zone and coming back to it instead of jumping within the same zone.

I don’t see any real benefit to out of zone travel costing more when it’s cross map rather than the next map over; once the distance is non-trivial to run the price might as well be flat.

In my opinion, if someone is poor enough to wait for two loading screens, they deserve that gold.

Anyway, my point is pretty simple. You have to understand, that for me, cost is not an issue. I have hundreds and hundreds of gold (nearing a thousand). The problem is that it’s mentally taxing to think that you spend money for travel.

Speaking for myself, there’s nothing “wrong” with it. It’s just that to me, it’s unappealing as a solution as it’s not permanent and it relies on getting lucky with drops.

My proposal was never supposed to be the end-all-be-all solution, but it is a quick fix that would make things better in my opinion. I put forth a suggestion primarily hoping that others would either follow suit or agree with the sentiment.

You seem to mistake the purpose of a gold sink. It’s not a “tax” on the wealthy. I have no idea how you came to that misguided belief.

My belief is not that. My belief is that a goldsink is necessary: I never said, “let’s eradicate all WP fees.” However, I don’t like being forced into a corner where I HAVE to pay 100 percent of the time. It’s a psychological effect of being confined to a region.

Waypoint fees are, IMO, detrimental to the overall enjoyment of the game. Move that gold sink to some other mechanic, and let people explore and travel around without feeling like they’re being punished each time they want a change of scenery without waiting for half an hour while autorunning.

I absolutely agree. It’s not about the cost, so much as the psychological effect of constantly being trapped within a region.

I bought them outright from the TP because my luck is horrible, and I wouldn’t want to wait for the price to go up in 2 days when the number of tickets required increases. SeasThyDay.7398

Well, it’s currently the rough equivalent of 285 gold. In this game you need gold to make gold off the TP, so if I were a beginner with no gold I would consider it worthwhile to buy maybe 3200 gems with real money and exchange it for gold (around 40 dollars worth). After that I would get to working the TP.

Otherwise, if you have a job that pays above minimum wage that you don’t hate, you’d do fine to just buy the gems…although forget a legendary weapon unless you forge it yourself. It would cost you roughly 1,100 dollars.

If you do the math, you will see what I mean.

Edit: Now that I’ve bought all my skins I’m happy to share the math with you (of course, the price is going up as we speak).

Here’s the math: 450 gems (5 keys) is roughly 16 gold at 28 gems per gold. On average it takes 50 chests to get a claim ticket. So, 16 gold times 10 equals 160 gold. The skins are listed for 50 gold each.

In other words, buying from the TP is the same as getting a claim ticket within 15 chests.

Btw, “for less than it cost them to acquire” isn’t true.

I think the thing we have to be grateful for with this new system is that it allows us to buy the items directly off the TP. It allows us all to be “lucky” if we use our heads. The TP prices will always be significantly cheaper than the average cost of buying chests to get scraps.

The scraps are just a bonus thing that shouldn’t be a motivator in themselves. With the one for five sale it’s easy to see how just purchasing off the TP right now will be the same as getting extremely lucky in a few days.

Only idiots will be unlucky with this new system.

Edit: Btw, I’m hoping that everyone who reads this thinks that I’m full of crap, so as to not reduce the number of skins on the TP.

I wouldn’t call that a consolation prize. With the Dragon Coffers you weren’t lucky, but not unlucky either. I actually farmed over 4,500 coffers without a single ticket, so trust me when I say you weren’t unlucky. After farming failed I bought about 4,000 coffers and got 2 tickets. Then, after the event, I gave my friend 500 coffers. He pulled 3 out of them…

Anyway, I’m not trying to moan or anything (I did get all the tickets I wanted, after all). Just putting things into perspective.

SeasThyDay.7398

That is another interesting idea. But I think that you are mistaken in thinking that your proposal induces less server strain than mine.

With my proposal, RNG would limit the numbers of players capable of waypoint jumping at one time, thus being a non-issue. Having free capital WP travel for all players, on the other hand, would most certainly cause greater server strain.

Plus, I already view travel to capital cities as free, as all of the cities are within walking distance if you just log on to do dailies in low-level areas.

As for the second point you suggested, this would more than likely result in less of a gold-sink than my proposed changes. Having free waypoints for one day is likely to be less advantageous in the long-term. Many people log in every day to do the dailies, and for those people just having 1 free waypoint every 30 mins is the same as making the game free of waypoint costs.

The difference between my plan and yours is that yours would result in less of a gold-sink across the community, and “more” of a gold-sink for players that partake in guild events and are active players. With my plan, players that are more active are rewarded more.

SeasThyDay.7398

As we all know, waypoints are a gold sink. And, let’s be honest here; that gold sink serves no purpose except to make it more difficult for us to travel as much as we would like (no, it doesn’t make the wealthy less wealthy). It is fairly annoying, that at any level, the ability to travel as much as one would like is limited to one’s wealth.

Granted, as a decently wealthy person, I’m not as limited by this cost. However, the thought that I can’t explore the world for free (without walking…) is a major downer.

If I don’t have to go somewhere, I won’t. I think this mentality is what causes tons of players to just sit around the capitals to get the dailies done. If there weren’t such a tax on travel, you can be sure that players would go farther from the capitals.

Therefore, I think there should be a random chance to have a free WP travel item dropped from any mob (maybe the BL chests too). Whether this would be one day of free WP costs, or a week, I think this would be a phenomenal item. There is already guild research that reduces the cost of WP travel, so extending at least this courtesy to players without guilds should be reasonable.

Additionally, I think free group travel waypoint items should be implemented for parties and guilds. The person who got the item would double-click to activate, select a WP, and then invite players to that WP via shift-clicking into party or guild chat.

And yes, I realize there’s an election being held that would make WP travel free for a little while. But I think permanent occasionally free WP travel would make everyone happier.

(Jade Quarry) The Bankrupt Nobles [Rich]

in Looking for...

Posted by: SeasThyDay.7398

SeasThyDay.7398

Hello, fellow gamers! Today I would like to talk to you about a “new” casual guild of mine, The Bankrupt Nobles [Rich], as well as my own personal play-style.

Although I call it new, the guild already has a fair number of upgrades done to it.

Politics: Level 2
Art of War: Level 3
Economy: Level 2
Architecture: Level 4

In other words, we have plenty of bank space, and we are ready to get on with the first type of Guild Mission: Bounty Hunting. For that, active players, who will not only help accumulate the rep. to unlock it, but to do the missions, are needed.

Personally, I am a very casual gamer who, aside from chatting about the game’s features, and doing dailies, spends most of his time working the marketplace. Figuring out what items to invest in is my bread and butter.

The name of the guild comes from my love of making gold from the marketplace. While the name says that we are “bankrupt”, it is a double entendre of sorts. Rather than being financially bankrupt, it implies that we are morally bankrupt. However, following that interpretation, the next word that follows, “Nobles”, comes as a surprising contradiction. What does this all mean when put together? Well, simply put, it is a play on words that succeeds in tricking the reader into thinking that we are hoity-toity snoots one moment, and then takes it away from him, giving him a sense of profound confusion.

These sort of mind games are commonly executed on the marketplace, thus, it holds some personal meaning. Additionally, it reminds me where I came from in the game: abject poverty; and the struggle to the top.

Now that I’ve explained about myself, let me clarify the rules of the guild:

1. Newcomers are accepted based on first come first serve.
2. Players will be kicked from the guild if they are inactive or don’t rep. once in a specified amount of time (recurring):
Officers: 20 days.
Members: 15 days.
Newcomers: 5 days.

3. Requirements for ranks:
Officers: Hand-picked by me.
Members: Be part of the guild for 15 days.
Newcomers: Be an active member.

4. Re-Admission: First come first serve (unless banned for bad behavior).

5. Guild Stash: take what you need, but be considerate where expensive items are concerned. Also, don’t place gold in it that you don’t want stolen.

6. Hey! Lighten up a little! And welcome to the Assassin brotherho—I mean, Guild

The only reason you’d keep them long-term would be to sell them, however, I predict they will plummet in price after the event ends due to zhaitaffy being worthless after the achievement goes away. It would be at least a month before you saw the price increase much, in my opinion.

Graphical Glitch with Aetherblade Armor?

Yes, I understand that. Normally though, on all armors sets, red is not the blackest black. I really have no problem with the armor the way it is, except for the red lines. It seems that because there is already a red tint applied to the armor it causes medium red to be the color of midnight ice on medium armor (not blue, but the darkest black).

Graphical Glitch with Aetherblade Armor?

in Black Lion Trading Co

Posted by: SeasThyDay.7398

SeasThyDay.7398

I’ve been previewing the Aetherblade Medium and Light Skins, playing with dyes on the boots. All of the dyes appear darker on the mid region of the boots (light green becomes dark green, etc), but all red dyes appear to be black.

Wrath Dye is an example of this. Wrath Dye is a medium hue red dye that appears to be pitch black (like midnight ice) on the light boots and a light black (abyss) on the medium boots. If you dye the boots entirely red what happens is you get some hue-appropriate red lines on the boots outlining an otherwise black boot.

Aside from this matter concerning primarily red dyes, I’ve noticed that there seem to be ever-present faint red lines on the seams of the armor no matter what dye you use (if you use Abyss dye you can see what I mean).

What I would like to know, is whether either of these things are considered glitches, or if there are no changes planned to be made to the armor.

Edit: I’ve been previewing the dyes on the armor, and I haven’t gotten my hands on it just yet, but I would assume any preview exhibits the same glitches as the real armor itself.

Possible Loaded Diced for Farmed Coffers?

in Dragon Bash

Posted by: SeasThyDay.7398

SeasThyDay.7398

So I’ve been farming coffers from the holographic projectors for a while now (about 7 hours, 700-ish coffers total), and for the first day (6 hours) I got absolutely nothing but fireworks, food, and candy up until about the 6th hour, when I got my first Mini Holographic Risen Knight. Then today, I got nothing but candy for the first half hour. After that I started getting some food and 10 mins later I got two more Knights, followed promptly by a Jade ticket.

For those who actually farmed coffers and didn’t buy them from the TP, did you notice any trend involving increased frequency of rarer drops? Considering that I didn’t get squat from the first 600 coffers, and only started getting Holo knights right before the Jade ticket, I feel like Anet must’ve added some sort of loaded dice feature for farmed coffers.

Update: Since I first posted three days ago I farmed for two days straight, not receiving a single ticket (3000+ coffers). Today I had given up on farming due to the fact that half of the holos are not even real holos but sky pirate ambushes. So, I just decided to kill one for fun…and out pops the a Jade ticket on the first coffer of the day.

After all of this, I can conclude that it really is just luck (and I’m so happy that I got my second ticket after this recent patch!).

The reason I said I would humor you, is precisely because I know that there’s no use in trying to convince you. When a person can’t understand hyperbole it’s not because they’re too daft to understand, but simply because they’re too firmly rooted in their beliefs to admit being wrong. If you want to write off all of the examples of Diablo 3, Guild Wars, RuneScape, and World of Warcraft, as “not real MMORPGs”, then there’s nothing left to discuss.

Edit: The bottom line is, you refuse to engage in a wholesome argument as a person. Rather than using your senses to detect hyperbole and the meaning behind that hyperbole, you are engaging in a robotic, word-by-word argument. You have not admitted in any way or shape that you’ve been wrong, even after I played along with your initial cynical remark. Yes, those items are the basic functions that most players should never ever need to visit a store for. Thus, it’s obvious why they would sell.

Let’s face it—almost all of the worthwhile items in the gemstore are actually features that are provided free of charge in every other MMORPG.

When you eliminate the features being held hostage in the gemstore, it boils down to just these items: In-town clothes, RNG boxes, and mini-pets.

Only a select few are actually interested in them. And, as a matter of fact, there aren’t any “store” qualities about the gemstore at all. The other “new” items are just recycled trash that barely functions (yes, I’m referring to the botched job on the Consortium Harvesting sickle).

It’s as if there was originally a plan to do something honest with it, but development plans were put on hold indefinitely, so they’ve filled it with rubbish instead.

SeasThyDay.7398

So, Anet has updated the sickle animation twice now. What do you guys think about the variations that have come out so far? Are you satisfied?

Personally, I don’t like the new animation.

It still looks wrong, no matter how you look at it. First, why is a sickle being swung around like a golf club? Although it wasn’t a bad idea to swing in the opposite direction of a pick, the implementation is rough. Second, the spring is grotesquely oversize for harvesting; if I were planting a magic beanstalk, then maybe it would fit.

The timing issue and bugs have been addressed, but if that was all the Anet team needed to do they should’ve skinned a regular sickle and patted themselves on the back for a job well-done. Instead, they copied old animations to give the sickle a “special” animation. There’s nothing special about copied work, so it seems the development team just hasn’t put in enough effort to call this a finished product yet.

As it is now, the sickle is effectively a scythe. Going along with that theme, I like the idea of literally reaping heads of corn (Sorry, you can’t get the idea out of my head now—you’ll just have to start planting virtual corn). A scythe is swung in a diagonal motion. Heck, if that’s too difficult to engineer, a plowing motion would suffice.

Now, I sincerely hope the team either:
A. Further develops the sickle
or
B. Comes out with another sickle in the near future bearing a different theme, with an original animation.
